The Best Thai restaurant in Cranford
I was looking for a Thai restaurant and my husband googled. I was skeptical at the beginning, because of the pictures.
We came and it’s so beautiful the decoration is so beautiful and nice. Love the music.
Food was amazing we had the 8 Thai sampler exceptional.
Our entrees even better.
Love love this place, I’m obsessed now
I may be a sucker for Thai food but this is up there with some of the best Thai food I have ever had. The inside was super clean and modern with plenty of seating. The service was prompt and all food came out piping hot. The mummy shrimp was out of this world. The outer layer almost tasted like a frosted mini wheat deep fried around a shrimp, insanely good! The shrimp pad Thai had a classic taste and was nothing too special but great nonetheless. The pineapple fried rice with chicken was so fresh and had cashew nuts that added that extra crunch and dimension to a super flavorful dish. I had lychee lemonade for the first time ever and it was amazing! It almost has a white peach type of flavor but it’s not too sweet and super refreshing. Definitely recommend stopping by 8 Thai for a date night or even a work party!
I had my silly 17th birthday party here and it was absolutely amazing!! The owner was so friendly and accommodating to all my needs, the price was fantastic and the food was delicious, some of the best thai food I’ve had! The private room is adorable with a wall full of mirrors and the staff helped me in setting up my party! Thank you so much 8Thai for making my birthday absolutely amazing, I truly appreciate it!! And to anyone looking for a private party, this is the place to go!!
A good place :)
We went there for lunch. Maybe it was a little over the lunch time. Not many customers. (my husband thinks it is more like dinner place. (price, atmosphere...))
We ordered one appetizer which is really good and I loved it and two main dishes. One is duck dishes and the other one is fried rice. They both were very good. I feel like it is more like an authentic Thai food. I liked their spices so enjoyed a lot. Fried rice was a bit sticky. Maybe it is supposed to be sticky..?
We also ordered their own beverage which was good.
When I entered this place, I was surprised because their interior design looked same exactly as the cafe next door.(They are next to each other) I think it is very cute but also interesting.
We enjoyed the time in this place :)
We placed order and got told be ready in 30 minutes. Half hour later, my husband went there for pickup, but food was not ready. Understood they were busy, so my husband waited for another half hour. After 1-hour waiting, they told my husband they cannot find our orders. A horrible experience and definitely won’t come back.
Beautiful location, good service, excellent Thai food.
I just wish that they set the tables with chop sticks so i wouldn't need to ask for them
Update Jan 10,2024:
Service is still great! Food is really good! I was surprised that the menu is so large, still.
Still wish they provided chop sticks at the table so we didn't need to ask for them.
When they run the dishwasher in the back, the lights dim 😂

They forgot about my order while I was waiting there. My food was cold and I had to dispute it to the bank because I didn’t even want my food anymore and they refused a refund , luckily I got my money back. Attitude from the older waitress.
Fresh and delicious. Got pickup twice and was impressed both times. Worth a try for sure.
Great food, nice layout
It's our first time to eat here and we came in early. There was ample seating and the staff sat us against the side wall next to what looks like a table set for a large party which has not arrived yet. The atmosphere was nice but a little dim. We instantly noticed the bright neon pink sign on the wall with a somewhat funny phrase. And it looks like someone already posted a picture of it. We chatted and perused through the multi-page menu. The wait staff came by and asked if we were ready. We asked for a few minutes since we were busy catching up. But not long, the wait staff came by again to ask if we were ready. I had to politely say "no" and to give us 2 more minutes.
Upon the wait staff's return, we ordered 2 appetizers, the mummy shrimps (3 pieces only) and the crispy spring rolls (6 pieces). We noticed that the price of the appetizers were a bit on the high side and the portions were small compared to what they cost. As for taste & flavor, I guess without the accompanying sauces, they were a bit bland.
For the main course, we ordered 3 noodle dishes: chicken pad Thai, Pad See Ew, and the beef Pad Woosen. The portions were fitting for their prices. I started with the beef Pad Woosen. The flavor was nice and had plenty of veggies to complement the dish. But the beef was a bit overcooked and hard to chew. And the glass noodles were undercooked and were chewy. Next was the Pad See Ew. It was good. So was the Pad Thai.
For dessert, we shared a fried banana with ice cream. It was nice.
After dinner, we walked around the area.
We will come back again to sample the other dishes soon.

Don't ever take out from this restaurant. I had called in an order for a total of 3 times for them to get it correct. For their extremely high prices, this should be an expectation. I used to go to this restaurant on a semi-regular basis on the basis the order was correct and the food was decent, but they have lost a recurring customer. There is a very decent thai place right down the road.
I will provide receipts for anyone who wishes to contact me of the three purchases within 3 hours of over $20 each and never mind needing to go back and from the restaurant.
A quaint location that provides ambience and comfort.
Food! Mouth watering and aesthetically delicious
Service! On point. If you want constant attention or time and space they accommodate- just communicate
Cleanliness! All one can for from restroom to dining area.
Best part of all - IT IS A BYOB!!!

Appetizer (Crab Rangoon) lacked flavor, dinner dishes were good...the service was just ok, and the one big complaint was that it was extremely hot inside the restaurant, the AC needs to be on high on such hot summer days.
Had the vegetarian drunken noodles and the dish was totally bland and lacking taste. The veggies tasted processed and had a weird texture. There was a lack of basic seasoning. I have been exclusively having vegetarian drunken noodles over the past few weeks and this was the worst. They charge $3 to add tofu but the tofu is simply warmed and not even stir fried properly.
I asked for vegan sauce in drunken noodles but I doubt they added any as it was very bland, even basic salt was missing! Not coming back!
Food is very fresh with great flavor and service is excellent.
Best staff and chicken pad thai in the area! Definitely recommend trying.
Delicious! BYOB, great food and simple chill atmosphere
8Thai was good when it first opened. However, I came back multiple times afterwards and decided I will not be ordering again since there is a better Thai restaurant in town that gives more for your money and is more authentic. The only upside about this restaurant is that it looks nice.
The pad thai was dry and not flavorful. I was so disappointed because I was craving pad Thai all day and it was one of the worst pad Thais I’ve ever eaten when I ordered. You’d expect the pad Thai from a Thai restaurant to be better than a Chinese takeout restaurant, but it is not. In the summer time I remember it being good, but since then, it is subpar.
I ordered again another time, trying something else. The pad see ew unfortunately was not better. The sauce is tastes like fake maple syrup mixed with soy sauce. This is not restaurant level food. It tastes like I tried to make the sauce at home with La Choy and Aunt Jemima. Very inauthentic ingredients.
Lastly, it’s expensive. For example, you will only get 3 curry puffs instead of 4 for 10 dollars.
The restaurant looks nice and it’s BYOB, but the food is not really good. Anyone who reviewed recently and said the food was good must not know what good Thai is or got a different chef. I can only speak for noodles. Maybe they make pickup orders at a lower quality than if you sit in. Not sure, but I won’t be ordering again.
The best Thai food I have ever had!! Highly recommend this place
Excellent Thai food! Spicy duck and Pad Thai are excellent choices!
Excellent food very friendly servers!
Awful food. Order green curry is basically bad tasting water and fried rice which was mushy. Worst Thai food in the area.
Always good. A favorite for sure.
Went there for a quick family meal (party of 3), by the time we arrived (5:00pm) we were asked if we had a reservation (the place was empty), I was told that the place was fully booked this evening. When I asked our waitress if that meant that there were no tables available, she just needed to say that. She just smiled and said that it was ok (!?)
When I went to wash my hands, I saw the staff by the kitchen having fun (you can really tell that they enjoy what they do), they even waved back at my kid.
The food and appetizers came up quickly, so far no complaints on that front, the only thing that I found a little bit bland were the summer rolls.
By the time we were done (6:15pm), there were only 2 tables occupied and nobody outside waiting to enter the restaurant, so I had no idea where the whole "we are fully booked this evening" came from.
Had the Pad Se Ew wirh beef, the beef was a bit dry but the sauce in the noodles compensated. The flavor was great! Nice spot. Def going g back to try more dishes.
Update: 3rd time going there they improved their people skills by not being rude like the first 2 times. It certainly pays to be courteous and good to see they're improving so I'm upping them to 3 stars now Instead of 1.
Original review:
Rude staff! Picked up food there twice both times woman slides bag on counter doesn't have enough decency to say thank you, have a nice day, or anything she doesn't even make eye contact or smile. No acknowledgement at all. And both times I was the only person in there too so no reason for nastiness like that! Someone please teach her some manners for crying out loud. Maybe a bad review will help this person learn it, who knows.
Edit: ok some other reviews are saying same thing about rude waitresses or staff too hopefully they take this as constructive criticism and change their ways not for my sake but their own. Sincerely, Good luck!
A good place :)

The restaurant itself is very clean and has a nice atmosphere. However, I'm dissatisfied with the lack of my order not being prepared as requested(happened two times). I've asked for chicken pad thai without spices(no red peppers and etc). I'm not sure if the host isn't able to understand my request or doesn't convey my request to the cook, but it's disappointing that I have to go to another thai restaurant that'll follow through on my request without issues.
Great place beautiful clean inside delicious and very reasonable prices definitely will come back
The worst thai food we ever tried. We ordered 4 meals: noodles and fried rice were just ok - the other two were barely edible. The shrimps were hard to chew (literally) and the duck was extremely dry. We put an order at 8pm which may explain why the food was stale - even the rice was not fresh, apparently everything was warmed up and not just prepared.
First time trying this new restaurant. Tom Yum soup was very good along with the 8Thai Spicy Basil Chicken (level 2 spice) and Sweet & Sour Chicken. Will definitely visit again.
Food was good but the service was terrible. We came Sunday and the waitress had bad attitude like she was doing us a favor. Never asked if we needed anything so we had to stand up to ask for chop sticks, ice, and when we asked her she ignored us while she was on the phone. If there is no change of service unfortunately I don’t see this restaurant fitting in our nice and friendly Cranford neighborhood.
I rarely write negative or even lukewarm reviews, but I'm writing this so that hopefully it reaches the owner and/or cooks at 8Thai. Thai food has become my favorite cuisine in recent years, so I definitely have solid basis for my opinions, though I have never been to Thailand (at least not yet).
Having grown up in Cranford, I was very excited to try this place, but I was unimpressed, to say the least. I ordered the Rama Jumbo Shrimp, which was prepared nicely, only it included a mere (4) shrimp, which seemed outrageous for a $21.95 entrée. More importantly, the flavor was beyond bland. The red curry peanut sauce was hardly present, like literally maybe only a tablespoon-full or two, max, spread out over both the shrimp and the vegetables. The sauce had almost no flavor, but there was so little of it that I really couldn't say for sure. Certainly not enough to spread over any rice. Come on, 8Thai! This is supposed to be a curry dish, and it should be swamped in the curry peanut sauce, not lightly drizzled with it. Giving 2/5 stars for this dish would be generous.
I also had the Tri Mushroom Soup, which I admit was tasty, but my overall experience made me wonder whether the chicken broth wasn't just some boxed or canned stuff. My sister and mother had the Tom Yum soup, however, and my sister was straight pisssssed that there literally was not one iota of spice to it, not only shred or hot pepper, nothing. To be fair, I requested one soup to be spicey (for my sister) and one to be mild (for my mother) and maybe the cook botched those instructions, but hey, that's why I'm writing this review. Tom Yum should be spicey!
Lastly, I split the Country Stir Fried Noodles with my father, and we were both unimpressed. The noodles were not cooked with very much care, which could be seen in the fact that many were still stuck together and were straight white when pulled apart, with no sauce or flavoring having penetrated them. Moreover, and this is extremely important... ***stir fried noodles should have a nice bit of char on the noodles*** which immeasurably adds to the flavors, but not so here, not at all, not one little bit. Again, just blah. And that's not something one should ever say about Thai food.
More shrimp!
More sauce!
More spice!
And, most importantly...
More char!
This is a hidden gem! We wanted some thai food and decided to try this place out. It's right in the downtown Area of Cranford near the post office. We got the Hot Red Curry Duck and the Grilled beef. This was a really good dish. The duck was a little over cooked. The curry was perfect . It was the just the right amount of spice. The grill beef is not spicy so if u like spicy you will have to ask them for spicy sauce on the side. Also the Thai tea is great too. I recommend this place.
Food was great ,service was quick, nice atmosphere. Quality
The food is so good!!
Food was very good and reasonably priced. I was there Friday and the AC was busted so that was rough. It was hot and muggy. I was sweating thru dinner so for my 1st visit I was bummed. The other issue was communication. I didn't understand our waitress and my sister had confusion with her order. They were very nice especially cuz my sister was a bit dramatic.
Amazing foods
Amazing services
I have to say the food was really delicious especially the duck volcanoes. I would come for the food again but the services was a big no. I came Sunday afternoon which was not a busy time. When I came in, the waitress looked like the restaurant was closed and didn’t welcome us at all. She only gave me a knife to eat and didn’t care about it, I had to find my own fork to eat. I don’t understand why such a good restaurant will hire bad waitress. If possible avoid the terrible waitress and order pick up.
Really tasty Thai food, generous servings and a friendly staff. Happy they came to Cranford!
Place was very cute food was also good .. only issue is the service . It was a Sunday night not to busy and the two girls on staff were not friendly . As someone who owns a deli customer service is #1 . No smiles , hardly checked on us and also the one woman was rude to delivery drivers that were coming in . I can see if it was busy but it was not . She gave us our check didn't even ask if we wanted dessert. I won't be going back
Excellent
I would probably give 8Thai 4.5 stars, at least 4.25. Everything I’ve had has been delicious. You can definitely tell it’s made with fresh, quality ingredients. The interior is chic, modern, and well-decorated. Where I knock it down a peg is on their portion size. Especially their curry dishes. The other Thai places in the area give you enough to have lunch the next day as well. 8thai barely serves enough to fill you up for dinner. Make sure you ask for extra rice!
Wonderful! Server was knowledgeable and kind. Floral decor was very charming. And the food was delicious, authentic and healthy! We had scallion Pancakes, Pad Woosen and Panang Curry- all amazing! Highly recommend.
Delicious food and very nice atmosphere
Stopped in with the family last weekend before the rain storm for takeout. Inside is beautiful and food is delicious, it's the best Thai I've had and were Thai food connoisseurs. Can't wait to go back with just my wife and I
Food and service was very good. Only complaint is both times I was there. Server came to tell us they were closing We had barely finished our meal. Actually had their coats on to leave.
This was my first time at the restaurant and I loved it. It has a cool vibe with lighting and the neon sign on the wall. The food was delicious! It came out piping hot and so fresh.
Likely one of the best Thai places in this area. I enjoy their Pad see ew but once in awhile it's way too salty.
Fast, fresh and delicious!
Love this place, nice people, good food, good location. I am they opened up. It's byob just an fyi.
Great service and food!
Love that place.
This is easily my favorite Thai place. I've been to many in both NT and NJ. From the food, to the service to the atmosphere, it's a hit every time and everyone I've introduced has loved it as well.
,,,great food, clean establishment, friendly staff and a convenient location. I will certainly be back
The venue is beautiful and the food is cooked very well. The whole fish espescially was delicious. However, I wish the food had more Thai flavor and why I gave it 3 stars. The dishes are Thai style but the flavors are fairly bland. It would be great if they used more fish sauce and Thai chili. I realize it’s NJ and people are not as adventurous but if they had more authentic Thai flavors we we go here every week.
Great food! Some of the best Thai food I’ve tried in a while! Definitely coming back for more. The staff was super friendly and service was quick
Best Thai food I've had in NJ! Lots of high quality menu items and delicious Thai iced tea. The staff are very friendly and provided great service, even when I visited during a full house. Wish I could give 6 stars.
Pad Thai is amazing and not spicy, the peanut sauce is also really good and not spicy. (You can add spice if you want) Steamed veggies and summer rolls are super fresh.
The people are very friendly.
Seems super clean. Very nice atmosphere with the decor, even the plates are beautiful and the menus are a cool texture lol. I would definitely come back! Anything after 7 on weekends I would suggest making a reservation though
Also affordable…$53 including tax for two entrees, appetizer, side of veggies, and three extra sides of sauce
And the take home containers are eco friendly!
Went there over the weekend and it was packed. Was able to seat 7 of us after a bit. The ambiance is nice, but 2 things that stood out; it was a bit smokey and there were no background music to cut the chatters. Dishes came quick, while we enjoyed our byob wine. Service was good and pleasant. Food was good, especially the pra-in Salomon and the drunken noodles. Go early to beat the traffic and enjoy.
Highly recommend to have dinner here. The taste and service 's great
Just wow, I have been a few times already
From appetizer to dessert and drinks everything is out of this world
NOTICE ,THIS PLACE IS BYOB
We were happy to find a new Thai place to try out. We tried the crab rangoon, hot red curry duck and the drunken noodle.
The crab rangoon was very crispy - best I’ve had in a long time.
The duck was great - big portion and a fair level of flavor and mild spice.
I also really liked what my husband ordered - drunken noodle (came with 4 pieces of shrimp) and had a good flavor.
Overall the place is clean, newly renovated and nicely decorated with cool flower panels and dangling lights. There are two single room bathrooms in the back.
It was a major disappointment after seeing all the nice reviews.
Curry Puffs had a cold filling
Crispy calamari were anything but crispy. 90% dough where you couldn't tell there the calamari was.
All the other dishes we ordered followed similar underwhelming response from my party. Even the Thai iced tea wasn't prepared correctly.
We tried and had high hopes, but will not be back.
Best Drunken Noodles I have ever had. The spring rolls were crisp and fresh. Loved this place!
Fun Friday night dining experience. Really enjoyed our food and the atmosphere. Friendly staff
So glad this place came to cranford! We needed it
delicious food, friendly fast service! a hidden gem!
Food was delicious and the owner / service was great.
Amazing food & ambiance. I had the Pad See Ew with tofu, which was flavorful and not greasy like most places. Service was a bit slow, but they were apologetic and I chalked it up to them just being very new & busy.
Wow! There hasn't really been a great Thai place in a while and I'm so glad my friend told me about this place!! The restaurant itself is nice and the food was really delicious! Everything we ordered came out perfect and we had zero issues. I would highly recommend it! We ordered the roti massaman app, tom yum soup, red curry with veggies, drunken noodles (absolutely amazing) and pad Thai! My friends also enjoyed their Thai iced tea! Check them out !
Good food and great service.
Everything we ordered was amazingly good. Food came out fast. The staff was very friendly. Seriously the food was so good.
Hands down best thai food we have ever had. From the drinks down to the desserts. So much that we want to try and already have favorites!
Really flavorful food and great staff. Will be back again!
I am a first time customer. Must say this is the best Thai food I've ever had and I'm not sure if there is even a close second. I had the panang curry, and immediately my first reaction was WOW! It is the perfect mix of spicy and sweet! This was just an excellent meal. The best Thai food in the are for sure! Can't rave enough about how great this was! Can't wait to go back
Great food and service! Really enjoyed my meal which was prepared with care and ready quickly.
