Bustling eatery whipping up classic Thai staples plus gluten-free options in spartan surroundings.
First time ordering from Ban Thai Restaurant. We did take-out and took them about 30-40 mins to get our food ready.
Customer service - my husband went in to order and he felt the service was not the greatest, but it is what it is.
I am always searching for the best drunken noodles or better known as Pad Kee Mao. When I saw that Ban Thai make Pad Kee Mao, I had to give them a try. So far it’s good. The flavor is different from others that I’ve had. Their seasonings is their own. But I enjoyed it. The noodles were soft, just how I like them. The only downfall is their pork was a little bit on the drier side. I rate it 4/5 stars. Wouldn’t mind ordering it again tho.
Their Bangkok Spring Rolls were okay. I order it with pork. Maybe next time I’ll do their shrimp instead. The sauce was okay too. I had to make my own for me to enjoy it more. They really fill it up with veggies and herbs. I love that it was packed with veggies haha. I rate it 3/5.
Beef fried rice was bomb!! My husband thought it had too much black pepper, but once I mixed up the fried rice, you can barely taste just the black pepper. I love that they cut up the beef in thick slices. It’s soft and flavorful. Not too salty. It’s perfect. I rate it 5/5.
The cream cheese wonton was not a hit for my little family. My kids love cream cheese wonton, but this wasn’t it for them. It had a good amount of cream cheese filling. But the wrap was more on the soggy soft side. Usually the cream cheese wontons are crunchy. But if you like your wraps soft then maybe this is for you. I rate it 2/5
Chicken wings were also not a big hit for us. It’s your typical basic oven baked seasoned with salt n black pepper chicken wings. I mean that’s what I tasted when I took a bite of it. I wanted more flavor to it.
Overall, I wouldn’t mind giving this place a second chance. Maybe dine in next time and try their pad thai, pho, and curry selections.
The owner was helpful explaining about the dishes. In our group, one person really enjoyed her meal, but 2 of us didn't like what we got. We shared some cream cheese wontons, but the sauce was so runny it didn't stay on the wontons. I won't be in a hurry to go back again.
I went here a little bit ago to pick up a DoorDash order to deliver to a customer, the guy explained to me that someone came to pick up the order previously, and he said that he thought it was a scam. He was very clear that he could not make the food because he didn’t have a ticket for it which I understand. I wasn’t even mad about that, he got really hostile and rude with me for no apparent reason again I was understanding of the fact that he can’t make food without a ticket, he was wasting my time and being very rude don’t order DoorDash through this place because apparently they have a lot of issues with it. Terrible service.
Absolutely delicious. I got the thai curry fried rice and it was very good. It came out relatively quickly, and the spice level was actually intense enough for my tastes. If you like it hot this place is great.
This is delicious Thai food- warm, sweet, spicy (if you want it), SO flavorful!! I got chicken egg rolls, Thai basil stir fry, and red curry. Everything was 10/10 and I will definitely come back again. Small, family owned business with a welcoming atmosphere and excellent customer service. Many drink options as well.
I’d been going to Ban Thai for many years for the fresh cooked food, flavorful and full of delicious flavor, but the last few times have been an utter disappointment and I’m not ordering from there again. I think the pandemic just killed this place. The food was heavy, greasy (and that old greasy taste, if you know what I mean). My noodle dish had a mass of gummy noodles in the center, very little vegetable and hardly any flavor. The fried rice used to be my favorite dish but I had to throw it out as it was so greasy that it gave me a stomachache. I loathe the use of styrofoam for takeout, as the plastic scent permeates the food. Worst of all is the customer service; short tempered, dismissive to the point of rude, trite responses to questions … it’s all so disappointing for what was once a great, family owned and welcoming place to eat. One star is generous for how far this place has fallen.
Delicious curry and warm service!
Their service sucks.
They are closed for winter break. Very disappointed!
Ordered pad thai and pad prik king. Vegetables were soggy and both dishes were swimming in grease.
Pork fried rice was awesome. spring rolls are the best ever. Love the sauce

Best Thai food I've ever eaten. It's my go to, not just Thai but for lunch
We had pho and two different pad Thai dishes. We also had chicken spring rolls.
The staff was kind, but I’d sad to share that the food was underwhelming.
take out today, spring rolls and spicy noodles. Picked up my order, there were no utensils & napkins. the noodles were soggy with, 50% broth. If i wanted that i would have ordered pho. the spring rolls was also soggy and were mainly made of bean sprouts. Also, if you are not familiar with this area. there is no parking.
Absolutely delicious. I got the thai curry fried rice and it was very good. It came out relatively quickly, and the spice level was actually intense enough for my tastes. If you like it hot this place is great.
Got a double seafood pineapple Curry, and it was perfection, I'd take a pic but I destroyed the plate. Def recommend 👌
We tried to go, twice now, and got turned away at the door of an empty restaurant because they said they were too busy with takeout orders. Seems like poor bussines practice if you can't cater to people actually showing up at your restaurant. We won't be trying to go again.
Phenomenal, get some soup
Delicious pad Thai and spring rolls. Owner/cook was very friendly. It's a clean atmosphere with nice decor.

So delicious! This is our go to Thai joint in White Bear!

Ban Thai is absolutely amazing. Fresh and authentic with super high-quality ingredients. As an added bonus, the owners are exceptionally wonderful. Truly care about providing excellent service. Dishes are cooked to order. Can't wait to go there again!
Drove out to have dinner on a Saturday night at 6:30pm and they were closed. Hours say open until 8pm How on a Saturday night? Not updating hours is such a bad move.

Absolutely, mind-bogglingly delicious food, excellent service, and a welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommend!
Fresh and delicious, vegan-friendly, great flavors, great people!
Thai restaurant that has been insitu for more than 17 years. All food is prepared fresh with authentic tastes of Thailand by a chef that learned at her skills at her mother's side before coming to U.S.A. Since covid main concentration is on takeout with dine in available.
Best Curry in the Twin Cities. Addictively good curry, I find myself eating massive amounts of it. Plus its a family operation and authentic thai curry. I drive 45 minutes just to get this Curry.
Awesome place!
The food is amazing and their service is top notch! The egg rolls and the pad Thai are the best that I’ve ever had anywhere!! The owner makes all of the meals fresh and you can really tell!! She is so sweet and so talented! Do not miss out on this little gem in downtown White Bear Lake!!
A longtime favorite for great takeout Thai food and nice owners.
Great Thia food! If you want American spicy just do 2. If you want Thia spicy 3 if you want hot 4.
Best Thai food I've ever had! The owner is a doll and they even sell the spices they use.
Rubber chicken. Place is filthy. Plastic plates and forks. Pad Thai was swimming in sugary sauce (level 1 spice) and peanut curry was ferocious (level 3 spice). What does level 4 have in store? Not gonna go back to find out.
If you like Thai food this is the place to go! Oh and Bob truly care about making the food quality! This is currently my favorite restaurant to go to.
Great locally owned restaurant. Food is delicious and staff is super friendly. Setup to easily take leftovers home (because there definitely will be leftovers).
Small shop, good food!!
Nice Thai atmosphere.
They cooked the broccoli plain for my grandson-- which was great. I brought home leftovers.
Was busy with take out orders, slow service good food.
Delicious and fresh
We ordered takeout. Our food was fast and fresh, and it tasted great! The owner was very friendly and told us where we could eat overlooking the lake!
Looked up their menu online & decided to try their pork spring rolls. They were listed as $5.95 so which seemed about in the right price range. So went to the restaurant & ordered. She rang up $8.50 plus tax. I asked her why so much? She said that’s the price so I showed her their online menu price. She said it wasn’t updated yet but still charged the $8.50 price since that was on the menu by the door. I thought I’d still give it a shot since the spring rolls rated well online. What a disappointment! They weren’t that good, mediocre at best, & I paid way more than I should have. Go to the Lotus in Maple Grove or Minneapolis instead!
Good food, friendly service.
This has been our favorite Thai spot for the last 11 years! Family run with a big heart! Thanks for always feeding our souls and tummy! 🥰🙏
Authentic Thai, very nice owner.
Ban Thai has been my go-to Thai restaurant for years now. The food is always fantastic and freshly-made. Love the local feel of this family-owned establishment!
I have been here once. This ma and pa place is old and run down but clean. My chicken peanut curry was great. I will return again!!
My favorite massaman curry
I ordered the wontons, egg rolls, and a noodle dish. Both the wontons and egg rolls tasted off. Litterally took a bite and just couldn't eat it. The noodles were ok, the spice level was perfect, but it just isn't up to the standards of the other places. If your in the area I would go to Val's in Mahtimedi, Ha Long Bay (s. WBL) or Orchid (WBL township)
I eat at ban thai every 3 weeks because it Is my favorite thai food restaurant and I pick up food here every time I visit my chiropractor. I have tried so many things on the menu and I love everything. Her dishes are so thoughtfully made her flavors are amazing and her food has been better than any other restaurant I have had. In my opinion above and beyond in quality. My favorite things on her menu is laab nua, her amazing chicken wings, her spring rolls or any of her soups. I recently fell in love with the pra ram song dish. Excellent flavors. This restaurant gets busy for a good reason and it's worth the wait. ♡
Just had the most amazing coconut chicken soup. It was absolutely perfect. Sweet, spicy, savory. My taste buds were singing!!! Thank you!!
Food is amazing here.
Phone wasn’t taking calls so we went to the restaurant to order. Food took 45 minutes and mine was not what I ordered. The real problem, though, was that the owner’s husband came out and wouldn’t stop talking to us about his weird political conspiracies. Business practice tip: Don’t talk to your customers about how China made the coronavirus on purpose and masks don’t work.
Great food, give it a try. Pho is superb.
How much do I love Ban Thai? So much. It’s always a delight in going there, with the family being so lovely, and welcoming. The food is the best Thai food I’ve found in the St. Paul area, highly recommend the green curry, it’s one of my absolute favorites!!!
Generous portions. Very delicious! No MSG!! Thank you!! One can taste the love in the food! Highly recommended!!
I get the chicken pad thai (spicy) every time!! Love it!!
The owner helped us and was extremely nice. I absolutely love Thai food and this is hands down the best Thai food I have ever eaten. Fantastic find in White Bear Lake !!!
Rude. I have had three bad experiences here. I love Thai food and I think the food is good. But today i am done. I told my husband we should try eating there again. We took a couple year break because the last time the owner(chef) was yelling at her husband (the server) the whole time. It was awkward/sad. We could hear it all from the kitchen...for a long time. And today (Sunday afternoon) we stood at the door 50 minutes before the place was supposed to be closed, and i guess she closed early as she just looked at us standing at the door. Kind of felt embarrassed trying to eat there. The time their child stuck her fingers in the sticky rice was fine...as it was their kid. And kids are just kids. But i don't like people being rude. If you don't want to be in business, don't be. I should not have traveled to White Bear to eat there. Waste of time.
The best word to describe my experience at this establishment is mind-boggling. I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I paid over $14 for for rice and vegetables served on a disposable plate. Think LeAnn Chin's but twice the price. And to add insult to injury, customer service is nearly non-existent - don't expect a smile or a simple thank you. Won't be back.
Great food! This place has been on our bucket list for some time and it surpassed any expectations we had.
Good family place. Would still be going there if I still lived in WBL. The PadThai was done right.
Best fried rice
Can I have your Pad Thai recipe since you’re never open?
I love the chicken Pad Thai. With heat level 4+,
Full flavour combine. The egg rolls and other vegetable dishes is a must try.
Love to take out from this Ban Thai. It is so yummy!
I would love to rate this place well, however I never even got the chance. I am not sure what kind of people are able to get to a restaurant that closes by 6:30 p.m., but most working people, including myself and my significant other, are not able to make that deadline. It is unfortunate a restaurant has such limited hours when the reviews, although not terrible, are enough to make it seem noteworthy to try. Because of their hours, I'm going to do everything I can to encourage anyone I speak to, to not try this place. If you cannot make yourself accessible other than business hours of when most people aren't even in White Bear Lake because they work outside of it, there is no reason to visit your restaurant. In fact, it only solidified going to Washington Square. Mark my words I will be telling everybody I know to just not bother.
Ugh. This is a tough place to review. How can a
place have such good food and such a poor dining experience?
Most importantly, the food that I've tried is excellent. The Gang Panang with shrimp and squid was terrific. The flavors were complex. I've had lots of Thai food and this was a unique flavor and I really liked it. The green curry with chicken was very good, too. A slightly different take on the dish, with different vegetables, but fresh and wonderfully spiced.
The spring rolls were big and fresh and above average. I was disappointed with the rice that came with the entrees. Top-quality jasmine was promised on the menu. Mediocre, plain white rice is what arrived.
Even though I was prepared for a spartan dining room (as other reviews had mentioned) the dining experience itself was a huge letdown. Now that I know this, I would go back only for take-out orders. And I'll try to remember to call ahead. They close a bit early for a dining establishment; 7 pm on a weeknight.
I don't mind ordering at a counter. I don't mind a cashier/waitress that isn't much of either. I don't mind florescent lighting. I don't mind eating and drinking out of foam/plastic/paper. I don't mind a table without condiments, salt, pepper, or even napkins. I don't mind bussing my own table.
I do, however, mind those things when I pay $42.00 for 2 entrees, 1 appetizer and 1 hot tea.
Our family loves Ban Thai! Excellent food and the portions are quite large. I am a big guy and I always get at least two meals out of my order. The family that owns it is so nice and we have watched their daughter Sammy grow up for a decade and now she is an excellent waitress. The prices are maybe a little high, but again the excellent food comes in large portions so that offsets the prices. I think I could eat there every day!
The food is very good, it's a family owned business and the service is very friendly.
Pretty good place for Thai food in White Bear Lake. The location is simple, the food was pretty good, and the prices were a bit higher than expected. It is kind of a hole in the wall place that is a one woman show (she takes your order then heads back to the kitchen to cook it, then serves it herself) where pleasantries are minimal and it's all business. All food was served in takeout containers (not my favorite). I like this type of place in general, but I was not overly impressed. I would eat here again if I was close by, but would rather travel towards Saint Paul to get my Thai food fix.
Fantastic flavors and served fresh but service and atmosphere lacking. Get it to go!!
handicapped entrance is through a side door as noted on the front door- big snowbanks to overcome in wheelchair- not helpful- disrespect handicapped vets!three steps up into establishmen tno beer or wine food was okay one chili is way too spicy- need a cold beer to deal with
The pineapple curry with pork was delicious, and the medium level of spiciness was just right. I liked how you get your own water, silverware, napkins, etc. The service was very friendly, and the prices were reasonable.
“Voted #1” this is what you see when you walk in, and like the dope that I am, I was all kinds of hype.
“Voted #1?! OH MY GOD!!!”
Me and my gf get our food and it looks fantastic. It really looks like they were “Voted #1” and then we both took a bite...
The pure and uncut rage that filled my girlfriends eyes had me thinking she was ready to flip the table and start yelling!!!
Her food was mushy, mine had been drowned in sauce. Maybe it was an off day for the #1 Ban Thai, could have been, but who voted them #1? There’s no source of this...anywhere. Who said this?! We want to know!!!
Ban Thai is my favorite restaurant, the food is great! However, they have recently changed their hours and it’s become inconvenient. It takes more planning to get there, but the food is always great and worth it. 5 stars for the food and 3 stars for the hours
I'm originally from MI and thai food is the best in the states. I don't know how they are voted #1? But I guess, I can say I won't be back here anytime soon at all. I can cook thai and other asian foods well, I was not happy with texture and quality of the food. I ordered the jumbo wings? Which were not jumbo at all. Pad se ew beef thai hot, It was ok but overall bad noodles were hard and beef was over cooked like it was boiled first or old meat. Chicken fried rice was the same hard chicken meat and very very oily, drenched. I hate to give bad reviews or any reviews unless it's very good or very bad. Again the flavoring was there but bad quality food and cooking skills. Btw it was empty when we got there, must of been empty the whole day. To clarify yes I am Hmong but at least I can cook better tasting thai/vietnamese food than you. To everyone reading this, go eat better thai food on University Ave in St Paul or Detroit Michigan it's way better. Lol
Authentic Thai cuisine, family run, intimate setting. Ban Thai is my go to, especially because of the owner/head chef, "Oh." She has an amazing sense of humor, to complement her fine cuisine.
The best thai around
Food was amazing! I will be returning
Great food and great service! The best Thai food by far!
I usually order take out but this was the First time I ate at the restaurant. It was not the same. I was very disappointed. Did not taste the same.
Not very friendly. Very impatient when trying to order my food.
I don't know the menu by heart so I was asking some questions and she was getting irritated. She was in such a hurry that she didn't get the order right and had to redo it.
Mediocre food and service
If you have not enjoyed the food at Ban Thai, you should probably stick to Burger King. I have spent many years overseas and have not found better Thai food outside of Thailand!
Unquestionably the best Thai food you will find in Minnesota.
Amazing spring rolls
We ordered carry out for our family who is well versed in Thai food and while the gal working the front was very nice and efficient the food was mediocre at best. To start, I love pad thai and get it often but will never get it here again. The wantons were tough and the fried rice was also sub-par. The only dish that was any good was the chicken curry and rice. Wish I could have a do over and buy our Thai dinner somewhere else.
Not a fan. Ordered Chicken Pad Thai and Pork Eggrolls. I’ve had WAY better Thai food and will not return.
Excellent food and good people. Helped me out with a 10 person last-minute order due to a reservation issue at Mizu. The food here is absolutely delicious.
Delicious :)
Best Thai food I've had in the twin cities. Daytime is takeout only
Excellent Pad Thai (519). I was told by the owner that I should also try the Gang Panang (319) curry dish since it is one of her family favorites. I will be back VERY SOON!
Fantastic! Very friendly cook (mom) server ok (daughter). Always delicious food that's worth the wait.
The best Thai restaurant in Minnesota!
We'll their Pad Thai if fantastic. Very authentic food in a setting that feels a bit like a diner. Don't go there if you're in a hurry, as they run a light staff. Sometimes the wonderful cook is also the server. The food can't be beat though.
Very chill environment and the food was amazing! They had so many options, we have more to choose from the many more times we want to visit!
Totally gross.
Amazing! This is some of the best food I've ever eaten!
Cant go wrong with the Pad Thai. I would give them a 5, but they tend to be slow, because they always seem to be short staffed. If you have the time it is worth the wait.
Great food, Best Thai around
Best Thai food in the area! Atmosphere is nothing to write home about, but the food is so good it does not matter! Seems to be run by a family, which is great in our eyes. Food quality has always been top notch, and the smells are intoxicating in there! Great place to get to-go food from.
Best Thai food in the Twin Cities. Spice levels are high. Very fresh and well spiced food. Come here often.
Overpriced for the quality you get. Atmosphere is like eating in a shopping mall.
Yummy food and the owner was so nice. :)
My parents and I ate a late lunch here, and the food was absolutely wonderful.
The owner/chef is very friendly, and we could tell this is her passion. The reasons we won't be back were that the restaurant floor was filthy. Our shoes stuck to the ground and the carpet in the back needs to be ripped up. When your restaurant is that dirty, it makes people wonder if the kitchen cleaning practices are the same. The hostess/server/teen daughter obviously does not want to be there. She was the only server while we were there, but didn't say a word to us until she took our order, at which point was so shy she barely spoke and did not smile. What a challenging situation. It is not her fault. Mom and dad need to hire a server and let her be a kid. A large table next to us got up and left because they didn't think they were getting service (were not greeted, she didn't ask for drink order). Our food was very tasty, except for the chicken soup which smelled rotten. I couldn't stomach trying it, but my husband said it tasted like the green onions were possibly bad. We left it. Cream cheese wontons tasted scratch made, and were delish! The rest of the food was fine. I do not understand where the excellent reviews are coming from, and I hope things improve for them. This place would be fantastic as a food truck or takeout only where service is not needed and people can just savor the owner's delicious treats, a smaller menu that could be focused on the best offerings. Just my opinion-- hate to see family businesses struggle. These guys need change.
Was my first time here. I ordered the massaman curry with beef on spice level 3. It was pretty good and spicy. I'd definitely go again if I'm in the area
This a great place for authentic Thai cuisine. People complain about wait times, but when you get your food you can tell it was freshly made. This wasn't sitting under a warming lamp all day. This is the perfect place to "dip your toe" in the Thai food experience. They have some meals that are probably more recognizable to those who like Chinese takeout, but the execution of these dishes far exceeds anything you'll find at a typical takeout place. But the real draw are the outstanding Thai dishes. If my wife would let me, I'd eat here two or three times a week.
Awesome Spring Rolls.
Pho ~ pronounced Phaa
Exceptional lunch date with my wife.
Bob and "Oh" are excellent and 4 is plenty spicy...
The best! If you like spice this is the place to go. One of the only places to make my nose run and eyes water because of the spice! Simply delicious.
Amazing
Wonderful, food, service and atmosphere! I have been to many Thai restaurants and Ban Thai is one of my new favorites! I only wish that I had known about them sooner! I had the Pad Thai, which was very flavorful and fresh. My husband had one of the curries, which was very delicious as well. I like that they don't use any MSG and that everything is made fresh. The owners are so welcoming and the food is of such high quality that you almost feel as though you are dining at someone's home in Thailand. We look forward to our next visit and further exploring their extensive menu!
I gotta review this place! The food was astounding and service was great too at this family run restaurant. I am from out of town and a Thai snob. Thai food is my favorite and this place was second to none! I ordered Tom Kha Gai soup, a noodle dish, and a curry dish. It was so good, everything including the Thai iced tea!
The owner was super friendly! Definitely a gem here in White Bear Lake!! Food was amazing! I will definitely be coming back if I pass through Minnesota again! Fantastic experience!
Came here a couple winters ago, when the weather was rough. Obviously short-staffed but there were only a few tables.
Food was decent but nothing special. Had higher hopes. Everything seemed a bit bland, and their "spicy" was maybe a 2 out of 5.
Others seem to like it, so maybe it was just a bad night, but we haven't been back.
Great Thai food. I wish we still lived near by. But it's definitely worth the little extra drive time.
Delicious food at a reasonable price, great service!
Great little Thai good joint; simple, with wonderful food
Very tasty. If you're new to Thai cuisine just ask . They are gelpful
Great, authentic food. Reasonable prices. Small but comfortable.
The food is amazing! Total hidden neighborhood jem.
The food is amazing service is top notch
Great Thai food and affordable prices. Better than what you'd get in the cities.
I went to this place with a friend for the first time last night and was really impressed. The owners were friendly and the food was delicious. It reminded me of my mother's cooking that I missed so much, especially the Tom Yum Gai. Unlike many restaurants, they make it themselves using fresh ingredients instead of a powder. Delicious!
This place has some of the best Thai food I have ever had. I would recommend it to any one looking for some good spicy food.
If I could give Ban Thai 10 Stars I would. If you are reading this the first thing I would say is ignore all reviews written by the uptight complainers (it's white bear lake we got a few of those). Or the people writing fake reviews that haven't even been here. And let me also say, If you are going out to dinner to have people kiss your ass, and scurry around like little robot ants abiding your every little command then don't eat here. Anyone that knows anything about eating out knows that one of the first rules of thumb is the best restaurants are the ones that have character, the ones that have real people living real lives running them. Nothing better than a greasy spoon cafe for breakfast with a crabby waitress or a dirty little hole in the wall BBQ joint with a stack of dirty dishes in the corner. So for all the complainers writing reviews do us a favor and stick to the "It's Asian Month, at Perkins" and stop slandering the best Thai place around. The family that run's it, are wonderful, they are sweet and really care about the food they are serving and about the clientele, they are real folks serving awesome food. Most of the time the food comes out very quickly, there has been on occasion where the wait has been a little longer than expected but big deal food is ALWAYS worth it. Ask for "Bob's favorite" I never even look at the menu don't even know the name of it, but it is unbelievable. The egg rolls and spring rolls are great. I love my Thai spicy but be warned this little lady from Thailand does not mess around so if you order 3 or higher have your big boy pants on. Finally thanks to the owners, you are doing a wonderful job, your Thai food is the best I have had, and I am picky, almost never satisfied when I leave a restaurant, almost always muttering to myself "I could have made it better". The only words that come out of my mouth when I leave Ban Thai, is "Man that is good, how stoked are we that we have the best Thai place around 5 minutes away" CHEERS!!
Pho is not good. Wouldn't recommend going there ever again. Too expensive for bad quality food. Go to stpaul where theres cheap and the best quality food.
Simple, unassuming storefront and seating area, but wow is the food delicious. The Thai Fried Rice (#504) is so flavorful and comes in a nice sized portion, which is almost enough for 2 adults. We usually call in for carryout and have never been told it will be more than 15 minutes. (Usually call on Friday nights around 6pm)
The owner and the girl working the front restaurant are very friendly and responsive to comments.
Wonderful place that i am proud to call part of downtown White Bear Lake!!
They are the freshest and tastiest Thai food we have had. The owners are fantastic as well. If you are looking for great Thai this is your place.
The office eats here almost every week. Never disappointed. We get the lunch 11 and 13. Highly recommend anything though. Just be aware it is a small family owned business. Be patient and you will be rewarded with delicious food. Or get take out!
Ban Thai has alot of varieties of good Thai dish...If you guys are looking for a good Thai place that have awesome Thai dishes this is the place. My favorite dish here is (319) Gang Panang it's made with green bell pepper , red pepper , basil ,with this awesome curry sauce and with your choice of pork , chicken , beef, mock duck, shrimp, squid, tofu and if your a vegetarian you can ask to add any vegetables you like to it .....After you have had this Gang Panang you are gonna crave for more . Lastly this place is not afraid to add in the Thai pepper spice to your dish to make it to your level of hotness ....
My wife and I have eaten at this great restaurant, the Ban Thai, 117 times in the last 4 years, and never have had anything but positive accolades for the staff's efforts. The food and service is consistently EXCELLENT, and we are always assured that our food is gluten free and dairy free. One other high quality feature is that the food is always hot, based on temperature, and they will customize the heat, based on spices, to your individual request. The best Thai food we have ever eaten,
This rating is solely on the service, as we didn't actually eat here, which is unfortunate because we really want to find a good Thai restaurant in the area.
We arrived at about 6:45 on a Saturday night to a very empty restaurant. (People at two or three tables) We sat down and a employee came over and looked at us like we were crazy. She told us that the wait would be over an hour, and made several comments about how we should have made a reservation. (The restaurant was empty!) Another employee came over and told us, "the website says if you have four people, you need to make a reservation!" (On the website, it says six people... Which I did see before going, but since we weren't six, I didn't think we needed to) They told us that we could come back tomorrow with a reservation. (Which we will not, based on this very uncomfortable transaction, in which all of the other customers at the restaurant were watching.) It is sad, because based on the reviews, this restaurant has the ability to make great food, but not the staff to make people feel welcome.
Quality has gone down.
Omg i LOOOOOOOOOOVE this place. The pad thai is the best thing on the planet. In fact... Im going to get more right now!!
True story: this place helped me decide on buying a house nearby! EXCELLENT and AUTHENTIC delicious Thai food. Some of the best Thai food I have ever eaten for multiple dishes. Absolutely nobody makes a better spring roll either.
Very disappointing experience.
We came here to have a fun lunch with our friend who we don't see often. We got our table, and we ordered an appetizer. When we ate it, it was super salty. We asked if we could get something different, and they said NO because we already took 1 single bite. We then left without a entre (we still paid). We called them when we arrived back home and said we had an unpleasant experience with the staff. He replied saying "oh your the crabby person with the appetizer''. RUDE
Been going to Ban Thai for years now, and I have never had anything I haven't liked. Sometimes there is a long wait, but there's a reason for that, and that's because they have one chef, and the food is AWESOME. If you want "fast food" quality then go to a fast food restaurant, but trust me the wait is worth it!
Last night was my first time visiting. The food is pretty good, the owner is nice. However, the wait time for food is rediculous. There were 3 people waiting for take out and only 4 tables with people. After waiting over an hour, one of the workers came by to let my table of 2 know that the food will be out shortly. 30 minutes later the food arrived. It took roughly an hour and a half for our food to arrive. Paying was another joke, had to wait for a while before anyone came out to the register. They swiped the card and walked away.
The food was pretty good but not good enough to wait this long. I will not be going back.
Pro's- Food is good
Con's- Horribly slow service
1/2 the staff friendly, 1/2 not so much
Always amazing food! Better than anything I have found downtown or anywhere else in Minnesota. I'm sure It can be slow when they are busy....but chill out people, it is so worth it. I personally have never had a problem with speed or service and the food is to die for. The panang curry is sweet spicy and super flavorful!
Ok food if you don't mind waiting. Ordered Take Out was told 20 minutes and waited an hour. When asked to check on the status was told " we can't ask the cook to go any faster" Rice was mushy and overcooked.
Excellent people and excellent food! Just go there...really, just do it.
Stumbled on this spot while traveling. Some of the best Thai I have ever had.
Service was TERRIBLE! Food was fine at best.
Great family run authentic thai food and they treat you like family ... or at least an important guest. Plus little their little waitress is adorable.
Great family run place. Authentic. They don't cut corners here. Doesn't have great ambience in the restaurant itself, but let's be real here: it's all about (and should be about) the quality of the food.
Excellent food - fresh, healthy ingredients, delicious flavors. Friendly service. This is a new favorite - I'll definitely tell my friends about it!
