What a wonderful visit to Ban Thai in St. Joseph, Michigan! The food was truly a delight. Although they don’t offer dine-in service at the moment, the takeout was excellent and held up beautifully during the journey home. I’m so glad I had the chance to enjoy their offerings!

The meal was remarkable! The curry rice and spring rolls were bursting with flavor. As someone who loves curry, I was thrilled with how well this dish came together. A squeeze of lime really took it to the next level!

The service was also commendable. The owner was extremely friendly and took the time to guide us through the menu, making for a pleasant and engaging conversation.

The atmosphere, although takeout only, felt warm and inviting. Just a heads-up, make sure to catch them during their limited hours of operation. It’s a charming restaurant worth visiting.

We do an annual trip from Indianapolis and try to hit up local spots every time. This was our first time here- and added to our list of must-visits each time! The owner was incredibly sweet and approachable. The food was amazing and obviously made with care (lots of emphasis on fresh, authentic ingredients.) St. Joe is very charming, and this is one gem that adds to that charm. I hope he and his family is here for many years to come!

All the food was fresh and delicious. You cane tell they use fresh quality ingredients. I am so happy we have this restaurant in our area.

This restaurant is take out only yet has such a welcoming atmosphere. I will admit I was unfamiliar with Thai. I have grown to crave it. Friday evening I ordered Pad Woonsen with chicken. My husband ordered something else, again, I am unfamiliar with Thai cuisine. Everything tasted incredible and we enjoyed leftovers the next day. Amazing! Will call more often in the future.

Disregard any 1 star review karens. You wont find a more personable 1 man show take out place place in st jo area. the food is authentic and amazing. The speed of service is great even if you order in person. Portion size is 1 order feeds 2 people easily.

The website needs to be updated for price and take out only but the food was VERY GOOD. There’s not a lot of good take out options in St. Joe and this is now at the top of our list. The owner is sweeter than the Thai soda’s which is saying a lot.

No dine in, take out only. They raised the prices to $15.95 an entree basically, which I understand with inflation, but for the size of the dish I didn’t see the value. I ordered chicken pad Thai, and what I received was basically a bowl of noodles. There was very little chicken in it. I almost called and told them they forgot to put the chicken, but I was able to find 4-5 pieces of chicken, so they didn’t forget, they just don’t give you much. The quality was good, but I’m literally still hungry after spending $17.

Best first impression ever! Owner is the friendliest gentleman on earth. Will go back just to see him again. Thank you so much for our incredible food and welcoming us to St. Joseph!!! We will be back to see you! This Thai Iced Tea is PERFECT!!!

Absolutely delicious! The owner/ chef was so kind and gracious. He made me a fresh iced coffee, the sticky rice was so amazing with fresh sweet mango and coconut milk dip. The Tom yum soup was delicious and everything was fresh. Fried bananas.. perfect.. Eggs rolls yummy.. fried rice dish with chicken amazing. Can’t wait to go back and try more authentic Thai dishes !

It is rare that you find a restaurant where you leave feeling like friends with the owners. From the moment we walked in, we were enveloped in kindness and warmth. We arrived just before closing so there wasn’t an opportunity to dine in but the owner welcomed us, offered to prepare something for takeout, and then sat down to chat with us while the food was being made. We had the nicest conversation and we were struck by his hardworking spirit, sense of humor and his interest in other people. And the food!! So delicious and very hearty portions. Everything was just wonderful. We will definitely be coming back again 😀

It was the takeout order because that was the only option. We were charged for $58 for 2 dishes and didn't realize it because we were from out of town, hungry, and tired. Maybe the owner knew and took advantage of us!? So you must be careful and watch out for the bill. Make sure you ask for the itemized receipt. I don't recommend this restaurant for not being honest.

Best in the whole area, we each get multiple entrees. I suggest ordering the fried noodle dishes like pad see eiw and drunken noodles a little well -done, so that the wok sears those noodles a bit more!! Very tasty and awesome ingredients.

If you like Thai food, then this is a place for you. The oners are great people, and the food is authentic and delicious. Highly recommended. They only allow to go orders due to lack of staff, that is the only reason for low atmosphere.

Ban Thai is easily my favorite restaurant in town!

My personal favorite dish is the Massaman Curry with chicken, which is both smooth and spicy, although I have thoroughly enjoyed every dish I've tried on the menu. Seasonally, they also offer mango sticky rice, which is a must-try sweet dish.

Jimmy the owner is a fun and charismatic guy but I would not come back here. The food was alright and good if you’re really craving Thai food but he overcharged us for our meals by a lot. I paid $53 for pad Thai, iced tea, and crab rangoons. Prices are listed on the menu and this was clearly a situation of taking advantage of new customers.

Quaint place with excellent Thai food. The owners are incredibly sweet and openly communicate challenges with being short staffed. The sign on door says carry out only but we dined in. When busy it may be carry out only. Either way, the food is delicious. Spicy Mama is very spicy and very delicious. Pad Thai is also great. Recommended for all who love Thai food. Authentic.

From the moment you walk through the door the owner Jimmy made us feel so welcome and comfortable. Then, the food got to our table and it was flavorful. You could tell the food was made with love and he made sure to credit his talented wife.

Food was ok even though the portions was small. The server Jimmy did not let people know that the prices on the menu was changed and in the end showed us hidden signs that the price was changed. He also forced tips on people even when we put tip in there he increased it himself and forced it on everyone from my group when the check he gave us was not itemized and it was hand written on a small piece of paper (which is very suspicious). He could have told the group tipping policies but he just forcefully changed our tips and hampered with the receipt. He acts very kind and nice at first but you will know why in the end

I just went to Thailand this past year and of all the places within the area that sell Thai food, this is the closest to authentic! You’ll get a lot of veggies in every dish that has them in it, so if you’re vegetarian, you’ll get a mouthful of delicious veggies and flavor! I can’t say enough how much I love the service and food here. It’s a little pricey, but don’t let the price scare you because it’s worth paying for the quality. Found this lovely restaurant while visiting the area. The owners are so friendly and serve as though you’re a guest at their home. The food is phenomenal and they let you choose your spice level, so no worries of to much spice. By the way, I’ve never had crab Rangoon taste so good, I had to have seconds, yummy!

We had a really great experience. Jimmy treats you like family. The food was excellent. There was quite a variety of dishes to choose from. A lot of dishes We had not seen at other restaurants. The dishes were Hot and fresh food. The Crab Rangoon's were excellent and the sauce Angie makes is Homemade.

I always come here for the Pad See Ewe and it’s the best i’ve had in the area. I no longer live in southwest michigan but everytime i visit I have to stop by Ban Thai. The serving size is more than enough and the food always comes nice and hot. The owner is one of the nicest people I know. I recommend this place 20/10.

The owner Jimmy is the most friendly and appreciative guy, he always takes great care to make you feel welcome in his establishment. The Pad See Ewe is the best we’ve ever had in all of the bigger city thai places we’ve dined at, and the Pad Thai has a subtle sweetness to it that makes it a really uniquely flavored dish. I absolutely love this place. I’ve never had better service and the food is always always amazing. My favorite is the pad see ew with tofu, it’s incredible! I’ve been studying abroad all over Europe for a year and haven’t found anywhere with better thai food! Can’t wait to come back.

When we visit St Joseph Michigan we make every effort to visit this Thai restaurant. The owner Jimmy, is delightful and such a joy to talk with. The food is excellent and created fresh. Jimmy's wife prepares all food and never disappoints. Their hours are limited but worth catching them. I watched a constant stream of people picking up carry out. Jimmy greets everyone and seems to be very popular in the neighborhood. Don't miss this restaurant if you are a fan of Thai food!

What can I say about Ban Thai that hasn't already been said? Not only is this the best Thai cuisine for hundreds of miles, but you will not find better hospitality and consideration at any restaurant around. Jimmy and his wife run a tight ship, providing incredibly fresh and flavorful dishes, as fast as humanly possible. You will not be disappointed by any dish; curry, fried rice or noodles, everything is exceptional. If you have a sweet tooth, don't miss out on Thai Iced Tea to drink and mango sticky rice for dessert.

Best Thai food around, and I've been searching! The green curry was phenomenal, as were the crab Rangoon and chicken satay. Even if the food stunk ( which it doesn't) it's worth it to meet Jimmy. We will make the 45 minute trip just for this place again.

Comparatively speaking the base prices are high for Thai food, that’s before the surcharge the employee asked for when I wanted chicken on my Pad Thai. That was fine, I buy into the inflation costs, I buy chicken as well, so I get it. What I got was a bland Pad Thai with an odd mix of both wide rice noodles and thin rice noodles, not much chicken, and not much seasoning. First and last visit.

Amazing gem in South West Michigan for charm, a lot of character, and amazing authentic food! Would recommend to anyone. Hours of operation are a small window so plan ahead to make sure you get there before closing time! We had an amazing experience. The owners are so delightful and friendly. Definitely deserve a 5 star!

My sister and I went for the first time to this restaurant for her birthday. The owner Jimmy was super friendly and the food was very good. Very generous portions and loved the flavor. Next time we are back in town we will be making a stop here again. Definitely recommend!

Fantastic food and service! The beef Pad Kee Mao was out of this world. Wife got the Panang Curry which she loved. Wifey is still dreaming of the Mango sticky rice we had for dessert. This is a mom and pop shop and everything was made fresh to order so please call ahead if you don't want to wait for pick up. Also real inflation is up over 15% so don't get mad at them for raising the prices. It's worth every penny. Support local!

The owner of the restaurant is one of the nicest people I've ever met. When we arrived, he kindly greeted me and my family and made us feel very welcome. While we waited for our food he made lots of small talk with my family and me. All of this while running the front, taking calls, and other people's orders; truly an amazing person. The owner's wife made the food in the back. She made some of the most excellent food. It's clearly homemade with care and it showed as it was very flavorful and delicious. I'll definitely visit again in the future if I'm in the area.

On a trip and decided to stop here for a bite. It was carry out, but they saw us in the parking lot and let us sit in the restaurant and took fabulous care of us. The sampler appetizer was amazing and the spicy mama was delicious… Plenty for left overs too. If we are ever back up this way, we will definitely visit again. Ban Thai is so good!! I had the crab rangoon and chicken pad thai and both were delicious and had generous portion sizes. Note that I only have a few of my crab rangoon left in the pic since I couldn’t resist digging in on the drive home :) the owner is incredibly friendly — can’t recommend this spot enough, I am so looking forward to going back!

Best Thai I’ve had in a very long time and the most wonderfully run restaurant. My daughter and I were driving from St. Louis to Traverse City and I looked ahead and planned to stop at Ban Thai for dinner. We realized several hours out that they closed slightly before we would arrive. I called to see if the hours were correct and the owner is the nicest man and promised me he would stay open for us to come. I cannot express our gratitude for his kindness. He called me back a little before arrival time and took our order so it was ready for us when we got there. I love Thai food and eat it often and I promise this food beats any I’ve ever had in all of St. Louis and most any place else. Thank you thank you for such a lovely dinner, a wonderful chat and a renewal in my and my daughter’s spirit in humanity. I am already planning a return visit when we go pick her up!!!

The man taking orders was very friendly but unfortunately the food was, in fact, not bussin. i got the pad thai and 90% of it was noodles. It tasted very underwhelming and was dry, & they gave me shrimp even though i asked for chicken. Also it was $13???? It was very much not worth it. Im seeing other reviews and the pictures that were taken dining in look good but the take out looks the same as mine even though everyone was saying that it tasted good? different tastes i guess. the exotic fruit coconut juice was very good tho but its not made by the restaurant. so i was disappointed :(((. best wishes to the owners tho.

Man oh man! This is the place to be if you really want some “authentic Thai cuisine!

I am a retired police from Florida and I was vacationing in St. Joseph Michigan and my friend said, I have a taste for some Thai food. Low and behold, we googled that and bam! Google showed us, Ban Thai Authentic Thai Cuisine.

Within a few minutes we walked through the door and immediately we received a very pleasant greeting and let me say the decor certainly accented our anticipation and fueled our expectations as we looked over the menu. All I can say is that, after a few bites, I was beyond words and the deliciousness of each dish immediately created a check mark for a definitely gotta do a return visit!

Let me warn you, you will only get the highest level of customer service, and I have to say, this was my first time having Thai food and I leave for a return trip home on Monday, but I must make one more stop at Ban Thai before I leave! So, I told Siri to mark my calendar as a reminder.

The food and flavors are beyond the word “delicious.” I had the Basil fried rice with snapper and Tom Yum soup and the sweet Sticky Rice with Thai mango (market) was a super delicious desert that I could eat on a regular basis.

Throughout my vacation, I have discovered that St Joseph Michigan has so many restaurants in their community that has some really delicious and unique combinations of food; however, if you are visiting or a local, you are missing out, if you do not put Ban Thai authentic Thai cuisine on your lists of favorite places to eat.

Lastly, make sure you get an Asian mango “Fruity Coconut Jelly! It was Soooooo good! This was a perfect food night and one of the many highlights to my vacation in St. Joseph Michigan.

Don’t forget to tell Jimmy, that Nelson, the state trooper sent you! You will LOVE their food!

Jimmy and Angie at Ban Thai are the kindest and most hospitable people I’ve met! My family and I were on a road trip and chose to stop in St. Joseph for a break when we decided to go to Ban Thai (which we soon realized was a great decision). The restaurant had such a homey feel while also displaying beautiful elements of Thai culture. As we walked in, Jimmy greeted us happily and made us feel extremely welcome. His happy and light conversation with us was much appreciated.

The food, made by Angie, was superb! Angie’s hands are magic. My family and I have enjoyed Thai food for years, and this restaurant was one of the best ones we have eaten at. The spice levels were perfect in the soups and noodles we ordered, and we could tell that the ingredients were fresh.

Overall, this place was a great pick, and we would 100% recommend ordering from Ban Thai for anyone that happens to be in St. Joseph!

Run--do not walk! It's hard to say which dish we ordered was the best considering all we're so delicious and full of the flavors you imagine when you think Thai. It's difficult to find authentic & tasty Asian food in south west Michigan in general, let alone Thai food. The bottom line is that absolutely nobody does it like Jimmy does it. He travels to chicago at least once a week to get the freshest product & rare spices that you won't find in Michigan or even Indiana. Do yourself a favor. This was my first time trying Bon Thai after numerous people insisted I go, and my only regret is I did not try sooner. This will be a minimum of once a month situation in my dietary rotation from here on out.

A must try for authentic Thai dishes! I ordered the “shrimp in a blanket” app. Crunchy deep fried shrimp- the perfect combination of crunch, salt and sweet! The “Panang curry beef with noodles” (instead of rice) was a lovely spicy, (ordered medium spice) creamy curry sauce. The beef is tossed with green beans and peppers making it feel fresh and not too heavy. Finally, the special dessert - a whole “mango with coconut sticky rice and warm coconut milk drizzle” (pictured about a third of the portion). It was a beautiful mango coconut dance! Everything was delicious! Please try and tell Jimmy i said “hi!”

We’ve ordered take out a couple of times and have enjoyed the food. But the price increase prohibits us from ordering again. $90 for takeout for 2 is a bit much.
