Modest restaurant serving familiar Thai cuisine, such as noodles & spicy curry dishes.
I stopped in based on reviews and I wasn't disappointed. The restaurant was clean and brightly lit, and I was seated and my order taken right away. I got the pineapple rice with shrimp lunch portion, and it was more than I could eat. I asked for no spice and it was perfect, deliciously seasoned but with no heat (and lots of fried egg, which I particularly enjoy). I also liked the Tom Yum soup but it was too spicy for me to eat much of it. Highly recommend.
Pad Thai curry sounded nice with beef and spicy.
It wasn’t interesting dish. I’ve never had pad Thai curry and it turned out to be exactly what it sounds like pad Thai in curry sauce. It took some getting used to, but I tried to eat it. I think I like noodles that are less creamy and I have no curry. I’d like to be able to taste individual flavors of the vegetables and protein. Won’t be ordering this one again.
Quiet on a Tuesday night at dinner time. I like that the menus are at the table and the service was quick and responsive.
A new - to me - Thai restaurant. It's almost noon, let's go.
The building is unusual, multiple businesses with a central hall accessible from the east or west end. A small version of a mall.
Six booths and two tables welcome you.
Menus are under the glass top of the tables, I like that, efficient & hygienic.
Decided on Massaman shrimp curry. Comes with a cup of hot and sour soup. Great starter for a February lunch.
I tried joking with the person who brought my food (as I usually do) but she was not a receptive audience.
The food was delicious, and a good quantity, as well. Lunch portions are between $10 & $11.00, dinners run $13 - 14.00.
The vibe was a little more sterile than I prefer but it wouldn't slow me down in return thoughts at all.
First time ordering from here really nice people they close at 8:39 9 o’clock so I felt bad for having them wait but I can’t feel bad for something I didn’t know but the food was delicious and the customer service was pleasant. Recommend five out of five stars.
Consistently fresh, delicious, and flavorful. We love their appetizers & have tried a few different items including drunken noodles, pad Thai, pad pek, assorted vegetables, & appetizer assortment and we love them all!! My new favorite Thai place in the area!
Best Thai food I’ve had around here period. Worked for Uber eats. Came in and place smelled amazing. I’ve been all over. And this is the spot.
Amazing and authentic Thai food! The Green curry was really good!! Tom yum soup was perfect!! Also spice levels mean something here!! Some places you say medium and it's still sweet and not spicy. This place knows what's up! Definitely worth a try if you like authentic Thai food.

Had the shrimp pineapple fried rice. Delicious. Clean, great service and food
Good food, friendly service

Cute little indoor/carryout establishment. Food is always on par!

Let me start by saying I personally order no spice so if you’re wondering about spice levels this review probably isn’t for you. I LOVE this restaurant. I order the chicken fried rice with no spice yet it still remains so flavorful! My whole family agrees this is the best Thai restaurant ever!
お昼に2人で伺いました。
小さいモールの中にお店があります。
Tmobile
No recommended
Small portions, not much meat, lots of heat, not much flavor wise. Woke up the next morning with a stomach ache. Probably won't be going back.
The food was very good! The people were very nice also.
I’ve been coming here the past couple months for their curry and crab Rangoon. All past experiences were good.
I introduced my cousin to the restaurant today and Thai food for the first time my cousin decided to order something safe like chicken kabobs. Then he asked me if he could order something else because we were actually rushing to make it somewhere. I could hear the cashier talking in the back, I paid it no mind but it was apparently embarrassing for us to have a bite of my takeout while we were waiting for his curry order in the restaurant, where not a single customer was dining in at the time. My cousin is 18 years old and he decided to buy the curry after he tasted mine.
The cashier asking us not to eat inside the restaurant is one thing, but I didn’t appreciate the way of how we were spoken to as if we weren’t aware we ordered takeout. I think it was more embarrassing how I received the wrong amount of change from the cashier when I gave her $50 bill for a $20 order, and only received $8 back. I didn’t make a big deal out of it nor the fact that my curry has no spice to it at all when I requested medium plus but that’s OK. We won’t ever embarrass them again.
Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in the area! The food is always delicious, and service is friendly and prompt.

Very polite and Awesome food, would recommend crab Rangoon.
My go-to Thai place. Their pad Thai is fantastic and they cook tofu perfectly
Friendly staff, clean environment, nice view of the road
I couldn't be more disappointed. We have come here for many years. Instantly knew this was new ownership.
While mistakes happen, and not everyone is perfect, my expectation is that if something is wrong, hear me out, help make it right.
We ordered dinner for 3. Tom yum, Chicken fried rice: garlic fried rice, Mild+ and one Mild. Now I'm sitting at home trying to get flavor on one of my Mild+ dishes with salt, pepper, crunchy garlic umami topping from home. There was an obvious difference between the dishes. different toppings. different colors, much different taste.
I called to let them know perhaps someone forgot to fully prep the chicken fried rice dish, and to get a replacement. The response was " yes, I make all the rice, it's all correct".
The tom yum tastes like lemon concentrate. Very sour, with a bit of spice. My fiance was not able to even attempt to finish it. She couldn't get past 2 spoons.
Needless to say, they didn't want to help. Didn't care that anything could be wrong. Seemed like they were more concerned with being right than getting it right. I understand it was the end of the night, but that is no excuse. I expect poor service and bad food from KFC if it's right before close, not from here.
I'm beyond disappointed. Frustrated. Worst of all, hungry. This learning lesson cost almost $55.
Definitely the best Thai around
Favorite restaurant to get a pad thai hands down. Prices are just right, definitely hits right on a lunch break
I used to order from this place a fried rice mild, never had a problem with the level of spiciness. It's been twice now that I order and the mild option is so spicy ! And unfortunately on their website there is no "no spice" option. Second time I ordered I even left a comment asking nicely if they could put just a tiny bit of spice...didn't make any difference and I did not enjoy my meal. Won't order there anymore ...
Wasn’t sure but wanted to try, food was fresh & delicious! Very fast service, friendly atmosphere..
Absolutely outstanding food! Nice place to dine in real quick or take out. Quality ingredients and perfectly cooked. The menu overall is excellent and average price for this type of restaurant.
👎
Very tasty pad Thai with some curry roles, small place inside a cute mini mall. Yummy.
Really fantastic food!!! We moved here recently from NYC and we’ve been missing authentic delicious Thai food!!!
Absolutely delicious cuisine!!!
They make the best fresh rolls and Tom yum, hands down!
My meal was very good and the price was fair. I will be back. Thanks!
The woman behind the counter was very pleasant and the food was just OK.
Had Crab Rangoon, Yellow Curry and Drunken Noodles...outstanding!! Ready to go back for more!!
I ordered pad se'ew medium spice with shrimp the noodles r completely wrong there's only broccoli not cooked suppose to have multiple vegetables for the first time I'm quit upset how do u mess something up that bad
Very nice ppl
The lady was rude at the front counter she act like she didn’t need my business ..she answer the phone while I was ordering which I understand… but come on at least put them on hold so I could finish ordering … she began to take there order whilst I stood there… then proceeded to just look at me… as of now she’s ready so I walked out…everybody at my job which is in Troy said don’t go here because there are much better Thai food places around… but I did cuz it was convenient seeing as I live in clawson area… but definitely won’t be back here based on pooooor customer service… I was warned now I’m warning YOU!!!!!!
Best Thai in southeast Michigan, hands down. Delicious noodles, curries and stir fries. Fresh ingredients, ample veggies.
The food was fantastic and very reasonably priced, the staff were friendly and extremely hard working and attentive (I swear my water was never empty for more than a second. I'd blink and it was full again). As a white man asking for spicy food from a Thai place I often get comments when I order spicy food about whether I can handle it, but not from Penn's Thai Kitchen! They brought just enough heat to enhance the flavors but not too much—just the right amount. My dish's presentation was beautiful (although quickly ruined by my use of the rice to sop up the sauce), and they only gave as much silverware as I asked for which is a blessing in disguise given that I'm very conscious about saving dishes, energy, dish-soap, etc.
The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, but not very relaxing. The large TV overhead is a little distracting and playing blatant advertisement TV shows like QVC. I'm sure they would have turned it down for me had I asked but I didn't bother today.
The best parts about this place are their special diet accommodations. Most dishes can be made vegan and there are plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. Better yet, the tofu is cheaper than the meat so that vegetarians aren't subsidizing the meat eaters like every other restaurant does!
There was no WiFi that I could find. Not saying there isn't any, but it wasn't anything obvious like "Penn's WiFi"
10/10, would highly recommend.
I’m baffled by the 4.5 star rating. Between hostile service and cold tasteless apps, though some of the food was satisfactory, we had a pretty poor experience.
We arrived at 7:30 where the close time on this maps app is 9 pm. With nobody dining, we were told “we close at 8:30”. I guess we should have taken the hint they didn’t want us eating there.
The satay was cold rubbery tasteless chicken (I think it was chicken). The egg drop soup my mother ordered was not hot and smelled strange, like it sat in a rusty pot. The egg rolls were poor quality and barely warm. There was no tofu, and when my mom wanted a Tom Yum for herself, apparently I got the last one.
There were some good points, the Tom yum was hot and flavorful, the fried rice was decent and my parents said the pad Thai was good.
If you want to be a take out restaurant only then just make it so. Don’t give your patrons a dismal dinner as punishment for wanting to dine.
Amazing Thai fried rice w beef
awesome dishes!! Love the fried rice and spicy noodles!!!
Been here multiple times, good ambience, great food always. Value for money.
Good food and service!
GOAT Thai restaurant. Live in Atlanta now and this is a must-have whenever I come back to the metro area to visit family.
Horrible food, staff and the place is so dirty I don't understand what people see in this place. The waitress we had didn't even check up on us and was just standing there giving myself and my husband dirty looks
Cozy place, great staff and amazing food.
I have been coming here for years and they never disappoint. Massaman thai is awesome but I have several go to favorites.
Excellent food and service
Fried rice delicious
Try their chicken fried rice and spring rolls! You won’t regret it.
Gotta love a place that stays open during a blizzard, and is able to put out quality food.
This is our favorite Thai place. We placed an order Friday night, and we received the best customer service. They were short handed and called to let me know us know the order would be delayed. And then discovered one of the items we requested was not available. They called again and even suggested an alternate choice. We received everything and it was amazing!
Not a fan of anything Asian. My husband loves this kind of food. It was a night he got to choose. Our first time here. Husband ordered chicken fried rice. I ordered Pad Thi. We shared crab wontons. It is all very good. Brought to our car nice and hot. It will be our “go to” place.
I need to know what they put in their fried rice! The flavor is better than anywhere I’ve ever been before. I used to get them because I worked 30 seconds away, now I’m tempted to drive 30 mins just to get rice.
Great food and service
Their See Ew was so great!! Yellow curry was good but it was little milky to me. And the restaurant is lovely.
The curry was amazing, spice was potent, and the beef was tender. All around excellent food, I'll definitely be back next time I'm in the area
Great food thanks I will be back
Great Thai food. Reasonably priced.
Best pad thai ever! Highly recommend!
I 💘 you're food because it was good and i sure will be coming back and the people were very friendly that's what i like
Very cute neighborhood Thai place! A salvation during the pandemic as they did mainly take out. Nice staff and good food!
Super yummy! Everything was spot on and the service was fast!
Your crazy if you don’t go here! (Seriously)
Great food and very reasonable
I normally do not post reviews but I ordered from this restaurant yesterday for the first time after seeing all the positive reviews. I ordered Fresh Rolls that were rubbery like they had been sitting around for a while, no flavor and were not even edible. The lunch Pad Prik with chicken also had no flavor and the portion size was very small for the price. Finally the Tom Yum Gai soup was the worst I have ever had. This is one restaurant that I was hoping to enjoy but was truly disappointed.
The Pra Ram Long Song (meat, broccoli, and peanut sauce) was good, but the spice was excessive. We also ordered the spring rolls. They were too big and lacked flavor. The service was ok. We had to ask for boxes twice.
My very favorite Thai restaurant. The food is consistently fresh, hot, and full of flavor. I also appreciate all of the great vegetarian options. I compare all other Thai restaurants to Penn’s and their food is always the best!
I picked up my order around 3:45 today and it was absolutely delicious! I asked for it spicy "hot" and they did not disappoint. I will definitely be back! I ordered the Cashew Stir Fry lunch and the portion was a good size. I will eat the rest for dinner ❤
Best Thai place ever! Food was so delicious!
Great place. Massaman curry dish and the fried rice were great. Highly recommend Penn's.
Pad Thai excellent, red curry chicken excellent, Pad wood sen, excellent!
I ate here for the first time today and the food and the service was excellent. Loved it.
I Wasn't feeling well and needed something spicy . Both the som tum chicken soup and spicy noodles (medium spice) were seasoned perfectly for me!
The food is always quick and delicious. They make it nice and spicy if you ask. Definitely recommend the pad thai.
It's good thai food and they are very nice people. I add a small touch of sugar to the curries and pad thai I order from here to really send them over the top. I recommend the green curry, red curry, and the tom kha gai soup.
Flavor needs a lot of improvement. Disappointed.
The food lacks quality and they put very little chicken.
Great staff and helps me get a very heart healthy diet. It's nice to know that there's such a wonderful place that serves my favorite type of food. Thank you again I'm the girl with the heart condition.
good food!
Yesterday we ordered carry out. The reviews said chicken pad thai was delicious. I ordered pad thai with vegetable thinking it should be just as good.
The vegetables had a fish taste, no peanut flavor to speak of. The egg had no flavor.
I will give them benefit of the doubt because we are going through trying times. Possibly try again.
The food was AMAZING! We tried a few different dishes; hands down, this is the best Thai place in metro Detroit!
Always Delicious!!! Well priced and super friendly staff.
Good Thai food.
I come here once a week for lunch. So good :)
I would give 4.5 stars for this . The food is authentic and gives you a homely feel. Try their basil fried rice and green curry its amazing. Its very reasonably priced and not crowded at all.
Fast and friendly service, food is excellent.
It was a great option for lunch. Good food for the amount, taste and price.
Good food and service
Some of the best Thai food I have ever had, we drive 45 minutes to come here once a week.
Good service! I like pad sew ! Good foods
The best Thai in the area period.
Good diners I would like to
Great place
Very friendly, food is delicious!
Some of the best ethnic Thai food I've had. They don't sweeten some of their meals like other Thai restaurants I've visited. Of the several different dishes I've ordered I have never had a bad one. There was one visit where the portion was a little smaller than I would have preferred so I ordered a second one and the owner noticed, came out to talk with me and compensated me for the second order. I do miss the original owner for which the restaurant is named, but those that have taken over are doing her recipes right.
They’re spring rolls are SO GOOD! Nice portion and taste fresh
Great food. Most of it is orders to go. Cute little place
Excellent spring rolls- excellent pad thai with shrimp!! That's all I can say. 😉
Ordered from takeaway menu on a Saturday night .. 2 orders of fried rice and noodles .. both the dishes tasted really good .. in terms of flavor and heat .. but the portions were really small , looked like lunch portions for dinner .. will get them an another try.
Nice, clean, friendly place.
Mild was extremely spicy.
Get stoned and eat at Penn's. Get your picture taken and then see it under the glass of the table. Vegan options available.
Service is great and the food is delicious
This is one of our favorite places for Thai. Service is excellent and the food is delish. Our favorites are the spring rolls, Pad Thai, green apple salad and the soup. Carry out is quick and dine in is a nice experience. 😊
I cannot say enough about Penn and her food... oh yeah and her restaurant..... so good. There be magic afoot
I've only been here twice, but both times it was delicious! The spice level is spot on and curry dish I got was more authentic than a lot of other places I've tried in the metro Detroit area
Real Thai & Really good
If you order a medium it is really Thai medium.... watch out
Very wonderful! The boyfriend took me here for the first time not too long ago and I thought the food was fantastic. Every time I'm over in this direction, I HAVE to get some!!
Really like their soup and fried rice. One of my favorite Thai places
Great food, staff is very friendly.
Weird area inside a strip mall but amazing Thai.. I’m actually hesitant to recommend it because it’s already hard enough to get a take out order with how busy the phones usually are! The green curry is my favorite, but I’ve never had a dish there i don’t like. Only downfall is they upcharge for paying with a credit card!!
My favorite restaurant for Thai food in the area.
Good place to visit good food good service
Not flashy, but solid dishes. Spice levels are are on the spicier side.
Friendly staff and good food.
Good clean food nice spot an cheap
Food is still decent. Chicken was not tender, and had no flavor. But the vegetables were nicely grilled. Wish they hadn't changed the menu as my favorite noodle dish was removed
Subpar food. If you like salty sloppy carb loaded dishes, then this place is for you.
Great Thai food, fast.
It's pretty good. I feel like they're mild Pad Thai is too spicy, and the no spice, doesn't have enough kick to it, so the next time I go I'm going to see if they can do something in between.
Penn's has lighter noodles with a very nice sauce that is sweet, savory, and spicy. Nothing out of this world, but they do their noodles how they ought to be done every time.
Service was good. Food was prepared well. Thai food just isn’t my thing.
The food is good. Well seasoned. But SMALL portions for the price!
I ordered chicken Pad Thai with medium spice. It had zero spice and absolutely NO flavor. Truly the worst pad Thai I’ve ever had. Sounds like they have new ownership so those who frequent here beware. The girl working the cash register complimented my wallet and then proceeded to give me my change out of the tip jar. Then she turned the jar toward me so I could see it said “tips” ....almost as if I shouldn’t have wanted my change and should have given it to her for tip?? Thought that was very tacky and left almost as bad of a taste in my mouth as the awful pad Thai. Never coming back
Just a heads up for everyone, they are under new ownership and the food tastes different. The curry is much more watery as is their brown sauce. The spring rolls seem to have about 1/2 as much filling as well. It was still pretty good, but not excellent like it was.
It appears the other Penn's were not part of this sale.
I've been trying a lot of the Thai Places in the area. I finally decided to try this one, and I wish I would have went to the other Thai place east of here. Food tasted alright, didn't have much spice when spice was requested as well as a very small portion of chicken.
