Thai cafe in a contemporary, lofty space serving curries, noodles & soups, with sushi & lunch deals.
I have come here many times over the years and today I had a very frustrating experience with their staff. I picked up an order of red curry and green curry, when I got home there were 2 red curries.
The staff even after sending a picture insists my order is correct as their green curry and red curry are both red in color and they use the same chili paste in both, the only difference is that one has jalapeño and the other does not.
The description on their menu says otherwise, as well as all of my previous Thai dining experiences.
Making a mistake on a food order is no big deal, it’s happens. However, the rudeness from the staff I spoke with when trying to explain the mistake was quite frustrating.
I got the sweet chili stir fry. The flavor was nice and really spicy(got medium), but there was too much sauce/ rice/ meat ratio... far too soupy with very little meat.
My friends got pad Thai and said it was great. I didn't pick it up, so I can't comment on anything else besides the packaging. Each of our entrées came with soup, which leaked terribly in the whole bag. Very messy
Amazing food, very kind and generous wait staff who was the owner and her husband! Very awesome drunken noodles with sea scallops, miso soup, and very awesomely named Honor of the King which is a chicken dish. Will definitely come here again! There is a bunch of great food options on the menu including sushi rolls, nagiri, and more!
My husband and I just ordered take it, and honestly we won’t be back. The crab Rangoon just had cream cheese, my husband orders the basil fried rice with mild spice and extra chicken. There was no seasoning, my husband had to re-cook his dish and actually add seasoning to it. There was hardly any chicken at all. I ordered the drunken noodles, not very good, plus the chicken was just dry. Definitely skimping on everything! Do not recommend at all!
The food was horrible. We got fried rice. One order beef, one order chicken. Neither of them had any flavor at all. How can you screw up fried rice?

Worst management! Wasted my whole time
Never go to this place!!

The best sweet chili fried rice I ever had!
The Drunken noodles were so dry!! No sauce. Was a frequent customer of the Livonia location for years. Always good quality then. This was below average and expectations. Also expensive for two lunch portions. Just disappointed.

I've eaten here over 50 times, and it's never been less than above average. They have a large menu. Fast and friendly service.
My husband and I just ordered take it, and honestly we won’t be back. The crab Rangoon just had cream cheese, my husband orders the basil fried rice with mild spice and extra chicken. Fast service and good taste
Excellent Thai food experience!
they no longer serve sushi; which is shown by a handwritten sign on their door.
The taste is good enough but there is barely any noodles and a bunch of bean sprouts, very little chicken probably 3-4 big pieces for 14$ is robbery. Simply Thai was closed and my fields wanted Thai but not sure I’ll be back at thaibasil again.
We ordered chicken pad Thai, Bangkok noodles, and Tom Yum soup for carryout. The lady told us $46.27 over the phone but it ended up being $64 when we went there to pick the food up. We were very hungry so we just paid for it. The chicken pad Thai and Bangkok noodles were good. The Tom Yum was overly tomato-y, like it was tomato based instead of the usual clear broth. I'm not sure I'd come here again because of the price discrepancy. I'll stick with Thai Fresh.
I ordered to-go the beef pho and the pineapple curry. The pho was not authentic and came with broken up sausage instead of cut pieces of beef. For $18, this was disappointing. The pineapple curry had good flavor, but the amount of chicken and pineapple was small compared to the price. I recommend going elsewhere for either of these dishes.
Yellow curry, crab rangoons, and spring rolls are fantastic.
Friendly staff, perfect for a quick bite, kid friendly. Only thing is, the rice noodles were over cooked but the taste was perfect.
I love the portion size and the food. It’s great. I have been here many times and I would definitely go there. It is my go to comfort food.
Have not been here in a few years. The curry sauces and the curry fried rice is always very good. However, the beef today was disgusting. In addition, I ordered extra beef and it barely had any. Will not be going back. Very disappointing.
Great Thai restaurant with delicious food and outstanding service. Prices are super reasonable.
We went here to have dinner. Always super fast, great ambiance and great service. This place has been our favorite restaurant because the staffs are friendly, you come in and they will know your food. I wonder why some who claimed to be regular patron says won't coming back, when they don't even know what they are saying but just bunch of complains after. Kudos to Thai Basil and the staff.
I would not recommend this place. Food was NOT great.
Not all but some of the staff were Rude and hostile.
Would recommend for takeout.
I have been getting lunch here for years and have always had a great experience. The food is great and the prices are very good for the amount of food.
This place was my go to for sushi, but it no longer is. The food is great, I just miss the sushi.
We’ve been coming here for around ten or fifteen years. When the food is good, it’s blow your mind good. When it’s not it tastes like most other average Thai restaurants in the area. Fortunately it’s good about 90% of the time. We love the crab rangoon, the pad Thai curry, and the pineapple fried rice. The portions are generous. We always end up with plenty of leftovers.
I did not eat on location I ordered out and the food arrived wrong and they charged my card twice. If you go there do not give them your card pay cash.
The staff had a very nasty attitude, because my food was not properly packaged and everything spilled out into the bag. We spent over$100 dollars on food and got terrible service, plus she refused to give me my money worth that I spent.. Rude and not friendly towards African American people.
Found this place on Google while driving through Novi looking for lunch. Overall, it was a great experience. They offered complimentary to soup but we only eat halal, we really appreciated the kind gesture. We ordered spring roll and crab rangoon for starters, it was very fresh and tasty not very greasy. Pad Thai with mixed seafood was very delicious. The staff was very kind and helpful, it truly was a team effort. Probably the best experience I’ve ever had. I would recommend coming Thai Basil Novi.
Cute and cozy! The ramen noodle soup was excellent and filling. The service is quick and the place is neat and clean.
Their beef/chicken fried rice is delicious!
Great food 😋
Great fried rice. The portions for the price are great and the food is very tasty.
worst pad thai i’ve ever had
The menu on the website is out of date which is frustrating. We were told they don’t have sushi but not sure if that’s permanent. Nonetheless, pad Thai is delicious, the tofu is awesome. Spring roles are the best ever!
Geat Thai food. Best pad thai I've had since I lived in Asia.
This is definitely not the Thai Basil I have frequented for many years. Menu now says "Basil Bowl" and has been shrunk down to a minimal amount of items. This wouldn't be a problem if the food was good. It's not. Started with Veggie Gyoza and an order of Edamame. Gyoza comes and my fiancée (vegetarian) takes a bite. I saw the inside and knew it was wrong. Waived down the server to ask what kind of Gyoza they were. She informed us they were pork, not the veggie ones we had ordered. Needless to say, my fiancée was not too happy at all. They replaced them with veggie ones, but they're clearly now just store bought versions as they never had corn in them before. Edamame was undercooked and bland. For entrees we had the Pineapple Curry with Tofu and a Massaman Curry with Tofu, add extra tofu, no whole peanuts (as I have a condition that does not allow me to eat whole seeds or nuts). This had been our standard order for years. Food came out, and again disappointed. Used to be when you got extra tofu, there was plenty to eat as leftovers. Today there were exactly 9 tiny pieces, along with about 4 pieces of potato. What it wasn't lacking was onion, of which there was plenty of. This would be great, except the onion was completely raw, to an inedible point. Same issue with the onions and peppers in my fiancée's Pineapple Curry. Sad to say that I won't return again as it's clear the Thai Basil of old is no more.
I rarely post negative reviews, I usually get the Pad Thai and it’s decent. This time my kids wanted ramen, and oh boy. The stench was unbearable. It was definitely spoiled. We eat ramen quite a bit and from quite a few places, never experienced anything like this. I had to throw it out. Maybe that how Tom Yum is supposed to smell, and I’d retract my review, but it was awful.
5 stars bc the food taste and quality amazing. Only thing, get rid of the imitation crab in the mixed seafood. It’s all really good- it cheapens the quality and you don’t need it!
Food was very good. Pineapple curry with beef (weird combo, I know, but good), no extra spice and drunken noodles.
The only reason I'm not giving full stars is because the restaurant menus have a different name than the outside sign. So, did we eat at Thai Basil or Basil Bowl? Not sure. But the food was good.
Nice food , nice experience.
Crab Rangoon and Red Curry with chicken and a Thai tea for a beverage is a hitter combo here.
Yummy Thai food! Great service and staff!
Tjai food and sushi was delicious. DeepFried California roll... yummy
We came on a slow day and ordered a cup of tom kha, pad thai, and basil curry. The curry and soup were at medium, and the pad thai at medium plus.
The service was excellent. The tom kha is the best thing we have ever had, and we have been to a lot of different Thai restaurants. The pad thai is fantastic. 👌highly recomend
Good place, have had several dishes here and they are good. Not the best Pad Thai I have had but very good. But they do have Thai iced coffee and some places only have the spiced tea.
Update: I have been getting carry out here quite a bit an the Masaman Curry and all their dishes are really growing on me. Increasing their score since my last review.
Great food
Delicious food! Will be back for more! Friendly staff. Clean bathrooms.
We had picked up Chicken Thai Fried rice and you have to search chicken pieces in it and no other veggies were added as mentioned in the menu card. When asked restaurant about this through phone and chat, the response was poor. Definitely not recommended. It seems they are doing it knowingly.
Food was good... a little expensive
Great food. Large portions and a quaint atmosphere
Decent food decent price
Taste good. Little more oily thai food. Enjoy the crispy egg rolls
Always good!
The quality of food reflects the price! Plus it's enough food for a meal the next day
Low quality food for a high price. Ordered pad thai with tofu and 2 orders of crab rangoon, $30. Tofu taste and texture like rubber. Noodles not good. Crab rangoon not good. First time eating here and last time eating here.
Great food, fast service and friendly staff!
Food quality has deteriorated. In spite of repeated feedback food quality is not improving.
Dish prices has gone up more than 20% and quality has gone down by 50%.
Not going to recommend again to anyone
Mighty good!
Really good food and has become our go to place for Thai and Sushi. Staff is very friendly.
It was a supremely amazing experience. A surprise and will visit again.
My new fav Thai restaurant. Very clean, great service, but the food not that great. Grilled chicken very dry and the beef stir fry was drenched in sauce.
We ordered the curry noodles and the curry was just water. We used to come to Thai basil monthly, but not sure we will come again. The waiter was mad and was arrogant and said that everything was that way when we said the dish wasn't fresh. Horrible customer service, won't be coming again.
The fried rice was not fresh at all, and it smelled horrible. We asked a waitress to cancel, and she snarkily replied. The curry noodles was defininely watered down, and the noodles were barely cooked. Bad customer sevice. Was a returning customer, but this restaurant is now off our list. Never coming again.
Great staff, great food. Very flavorful and good cuts of meat
Very good Thai restaurant good takeout and sit down experience
We had lunch there yesterday and the Pad Thai was severed luke warm and was basically tasteless as it seemed to reheated. There service was good and the resturant was relatively clean.
Always great
Amazing food ! Very fresh!! Great spicy salmon roll
BEWARE takeout orders! Nothing labeled! Some containers need to be combined to make the full meal, but are unlabeled. Good luck figuring out what goes with what. Make them label and put into separate bags all containers that go together.
Menu really needs photos so you know what you're ordering. As is, ordering is a mystery to me, and if I what I was expecting, it's great, but often I get something that misses my desires and hopes.
I don't even know which dishes I like vs dislike because I never know if I got the correct order. My job orders from here regularly, and some of us are always unsure if we got what we ordered.
Inexpensive, flavorful, great service.
I personally love the rice soup... 😋😋
This was a very poor experience. It's a mystery to me why our curry noodle meal was devised this way. We ordered beef curry noodles to go and it was nice and quick but they gave us the typical black carton with just the noodles and maybe some baby corn, of which there was barely any at all. Maybe enough for a small child. The sauce was more like a thin, watery soup in a separate container and had the beef and carrots and we had to mix it in. The end result was an abomination. Truly terrible, very upsetting, and I'm never going back.
Quick service. But food was not great.
good thai place. nice food.
Honestly one of the best Thai places I have experienced ! I’m visiting from La and I was pleasantly surprised ! We got pad Thai and pad see ew! Cashew stir fry is great but only request is more meat please 😊
The drunken noodles were delicious. I love spicy food, so the medium was on the mild side compared to other Thai restaurant mediums.
We tried this place via Door Dash tonight. We won't be repeat customers.
We both ordered the curry pad thai with beef, mild plus spice.
The noodles were so overdone they were mushy. The dish had very little flavor and not even a hint of spice. The beef was tasteless and rubbery. I picked it out and threw it in the trash. The rangoons were tiny (like a half bite size). For $9 I expected better. This is the worst Thai food I've ever had.
Average
Delicious and wonderful service. Miso soup is some of the best I’ve ever had, fried tofu is amazing!
$17.50 for chicken fried rice is outrageous. But what is more outrageous is 17.50 for chicken fried rice that doesn’t hardly have any chicken.
Spring rolls weren’t cooked enough and were extremely mushy inside.
Ordered a carry out and it was ready very fast and the food was great as always
Good Thai food. Wide variety on the menu. Frog legs, pad Thai, sushi, and curry.
My wife and I ordered Thai food last Saturday. Despite ordering vegetarian food with a mention of not even using fish oil, they packed non vegetarian curry. We opened our take away food to find this out and we’re left scrambling for our dinner.
The next day my wife called them to let them know about the issue. Instead of apologizing, the lady on the phone asked for ‘proof’. We obviously had thrown the curry away but my wife had clicked a picture with the receipt. We weren’t expecting them to take it any forward than this, but she (Kay) asked for the picture to be sent over to her on a text. At this time we started getting frustrated and mostly annoyed with her response. Even then we went on and sent the pic anyway hoping this would lead to realization of mistake at their end which is precisely what we wanted. But, instead of accepting the mistake unconditionally, she said the receipt was crumbled up and she could not verify the order number. We said ours was the last call of the day and that this can be verified using our credit card and phone info. At this point she realized that there are ample proofs of this and stated that the chef was tired at the end of the day and that’s why didn’t pay close attention to the order, instead of tofu, added chicken to the curry. Now, with the unapologetic behaviour at their end, we started getting more annoyed and angry and asked for our call to be transferred to the manager who she said was unavailable. We left it at that point and clearly in a firm tone conveyed that all this time that she was asking for proof, she knew that the chef was tired and messed up the order. This was the highlight of the conversation which is what led me to write this review.
At the end of the day, it’s not the $15 curry that matters, it’s the respect for dietary preferences that matters. And if there was a mistake, to own it up and apologize is the right thing to do. But to keep arguing and ask for proofs when you knew it all along just speaks volumes of how much importance you give to customer satisfaction.
I’m a cardiologist, my wife is a dentist, we could not let this go by without raising a word, which is what we did, in the interest of our community members who may have had or can have in future, such an experience with Thai Basil, Novi.
Consistently great food. Favorites are Pad Thai and Pad See Ew. Best Crab Rangoon I have found on this side of the state. Don't worry about ordering takeout ahead of time, it only takes them a few minutes to prep whatever you want. Highly recommended.
Would rather eat Kroger sushi, my pad Thai was pretty dry and my daughter drunken noodle was as dry as the desert
Super friendly staff, sushi was really good and the red curry was delicious. Will be coming back when I'm in the area again!
Clean inside, very welcoming and courteous staff. Had Thai basil fried rice and drunken noodles, both were excellent. Service was also quick and nice.
Overall, pretty solid Thai food and a clean location. I've returned several times.
Most dishes are good. Panang, Massaman, Pad Thai, Drunken Noodle, Sweet Chili Fried Rice, soups, and sushi have all been great. I'm not a fan of the stir fries (greasy) or the green curry (not green).
Spice can be pretty inconsistent. Some days "extra hot" is mild and others it leaves my nose running.
Nice clean restaurant and very good shrimp curry!!! Good comfort food for a long day. Will be back in the future :)
Great food and fast service. I got the Thai red curry and the drunken noodles, both were very good.
Great food.
Nice atmosphere, awesome food, and really good service. We often order thai food from this place and never got disappointed with the quality of their food. Must try: pad thai curry, panang curry, curry fried rice,
Food is really good. Our Thai go to.
I sat there for 10 minutes, no service, and walked out.
Good food
Never had Tai food but lotsa Orientals. Different flavor and texture to which I loved..Will come again but gotta go home to Arizona. Will be back within 6 months
Inconsistent but no other choice of Thai near by
Phenomenal food 👍👍 Great service, nice atmosphere
Love it ❤😁❤
The structure has a little age on it but the food was fantastic and the service was great and personal.
Vegetable Curry was very good, good service as well
Good food hot as you can stand it!
Yes. We all understand Covid caused supply chain issues, shortage of staff and price increases, but when you are charging $16.47 for a bowl of drunken noodle, please at least give the to-go bowl full.
The bowl was barely half full.
Hope you get returning customers.
Love the heart.
Great Thai food!
The BEST!
Food was delicious, hot, and fresh! Service was very fast and menu was reasonably priced.
Thai Basil is a good choice for solid Thai food in Novi! The menu has the standard Thai fare that you'd expect and the addition of Sushi is an interesting complement to it as well. Overall the food quality is good, and you do get a fair portion for the price -- it's a touch on the pricey side, but really not bad in terms of the 2022 market.
Ordering takeout from here is a breeze and picking up is easy as well -- I especially appreciated that they went the extra step and added an extra plastic sealing bag for my dish that had curry in it so it wouldn't spill inside the paper bag.
Overall I'd recommend Thai Basil if you're looking for Thai food in Novi! There are a lot of the options in the area, but I think Thai Basil makes a good case for itself if you're looking for solid local takeout.
Online ordering was super convenient. Hostess was friendly, polite and the food is delicious.
The salad was really good. The ginger carrot dressing was exactly what we were looking for. The curry pad thai was spicy but delicious. Wait staff is friendly and helpful. Overall very good
Food was ready when I got there.
We had a terrible experience. They serve stale and left over food for pick up (dinner) and delivery. Everyone had upset stomach! If we tried to give them feedback, they do not have any system to listen to you or improve their process and quality. 🙁
I ordered Pad Thai curry with chicken and tasted like seafood. Was not asked how spicy and I got it with very little spice. Priced at $15 I would hope for a little better taste or presentation. I will take my business elsewhere and wish them luck they’ll need it.
