Unfussy quick-counter outpost in a shipping container food court offering classic Thai fare.
I came from Columbus, OH this weekend and was looking for GF options in the city. I remembered eating here a few years ago and forgot how AMAZING the food is! My shrimp crab rolls were too fishy tasting to eat so I gave them away but the crispy chicken?!?!? I'm not ashamed to say I kept coming back to the fridge to graze all night. It stayed crispy! 3 days later, back in OH, I'm craving it so bad I'm scrolling the menu online🤣. RUN DON'T WALK to this place.
This is located inside Detroit shipping Co., a two story structure with different food spots and communal dining.
The service was good, order at the walk up window and they will give you a buzzer for your food pick-up. The appetizer of walking chicken pot stickers was ok, but it could use some variations of flavors. I taste a small amount of ginger but it needs something more.
The food was great and I recommend it. I ate from here at Detroit Shipping Company and ordered a decent portion of the menu you for my family and I to try. The bao with fried chicken were amazing. The chicken was crispy and juicy and it has a sweet sauce on it. The walking chicken dumplings on a stick were delicious. The filling was a great consistency and flavor, the outside was crispy, and the sauces on top were killer. Lastly, the crispy chicken bowl was everything I wanted it to be and more. It was crispy, juicy chicken covered in sauce (with a spice level of your choosing) over sticky rice and broccoli.
I had the candied beef and the pad thai roll.
Candied beef and sticky rice tasted great. I don't think there was anything wrong with it other than I wish I had more lol
The pad thai roll I felt had way too much rice noodle and I felt like I just paid a bunch of money to literally just eat rice noodle on top of more rice. Maybe it was an off day? Idk.
Can't believe I've never reviewed this Gem in the DSCo. Since I've probably eaten here .. maybe 50 times since their grand opening.. I always used to get the grilled chicken/ the Salmon/shrimp is insane! And probably the best/ but the newer fried chicken/broccoli is rich and always delicious. The beef Jerky dish is rich and flavorful and unique. And of course- the sticky mango rice- anyone i share it with always steals it all! The pho.. literally everything is amazing. I will say- only miss for me is the thai roll- good! But not like the everything else there imo. Chef G is such a warm and dedicated woman, her single spot probably kept that entire place afloat in lean time$. An absolute must try!!
The food at Bangkok 96 was so yum 🤤
My wife had the grilled Salmon and Shirmp bowl and I got the Fried Shrimp bowl. Both of them were served with sticky rice and Veggies. We also got pork fried dumplings from Nepali Dumpling boot which also highly recommended.
Overall, We enjoyed our American street food experience at Detroit Shipping Co.
This is a store inside the Detroit Shipping Co. Has a simple Thai menu that you can order very easily on the two automated screens to the left of the counter but they also have a person to take orders as well. Food is consistently fresh and delicious. Keeps us coming back. Our personal fave is the tofu pad Thai roll. Yum!
Bangkok 96 at Detroit Shipping Company was both delicious and welcoming. Genevieve was at the front desk to take my order, and she was sincere in sharing her story as I was curious.
Besides the service, the crispy fried chicken rice bowl and the spicy crab rangoons were addicting. I’ll definitely be coming here again. Thank you for the hospitality, Genevieve!!
Had a great meal - Crispy Chicken Bowl. Large serving, taste was great, right amount of spice and the ratio of rice to veggies to chicken was spot on.

Dood is always delicious. I go 9n my lunch & it never fails 🤗😋
Good cheap food! Nothing better
What a fun place to eat! Family run business, local, I get something new every time and it's always delicious!
Fun spot! Bar service was great!
The food is exceptional and innovative. I ate the pad Thai roll so fast I was sad when it was gone. Heads up, they are located in the shipping Co, so parking is a bit annoying on busy nights but the vibes are good so what’s some parking problems?
Amazing food beautiful environment ✅️💯
I had the candied beef and the pad thai roll.

Best food at the Detroit Shipping Co. Loved it. Was reasonably priced and had very friendly workers. Very helpful.
Bangkok is inside Detroit Shipping Co. It is solid and has good vegetarian food. If you want something different in a unique environment, this is a good choice. There are several restaurants in the food court, so you're likely to find something for everyone.
The grilled salmon & shrimp curry bowl AND the Candied Beef are my two favorite entrees. Absolutely superb. Love this place.
I’m so happy eating here at my favorite restaurant for free on my birthday at Vanco 96 Street Food come and get some shrimp. It’s all here the best place if you’re traveling I’m out of town make this your first stop. I promise you will love it promise.
I have been to Bangkok 96 before and had a pleasant experience; however, I was deeply disappointed by the Detroit Shipping Co, Street food location. My husband and I waited patiently for over an hour to receive our food. If not for my husband standing in line for an additional 15 minutes with other waiting customers I doubt we ever would have received a text notifying us that our order was ready. There is no system in place for getting food out accurately or efficiently. Eventually, we got 2 of the 4 items that we ordered. If we return to this location we will absolutely choose one of the other well run locations to dine at instead of this one.
I've tried them 5 times in 3 years, every time it's 1/5 stars for me. My spring rolls were all skin, old, and as gross as everything I've tried here. I do not get the hype or awards. Very nice staff though.

Wowww!!
Great food! Genevieve the owner/chef is awesome! Wonderful place! Will be back!

I ordered the Pad Thai Roll and I really wanted to like it because it looked so lovely but I honestly couldn't even finish it. It tasted like a burrito full of noodles. It missed the mark for me.
I recently visited the Detroit Shipping Company and ordered food from Bangkok 96 Street Food. I ordered the samosas and pan seared pork dumplings with the mint cilantro sauce. Everything was delicious. Note: For all dumpling orders, you have 3 options as to how your dumplings are prepared. You can choose to either have them steamed, pan seared or deep-fried.

Amazing food. I've visited multiple times, and each time, it has been consistent. Taste so good.
Food was great and gave you a good amount
First time visit to Detroit Shipping Co. and wanted to try a bit of everything. Bangkok 96 Street Food was definitely a highlight! My boyfriend got a Tikka Masala from the spot next door but he loved my grilled chicken so much we got a candied beef and some crab ragon to go. Genevieve, the owner, was the absolute sweetest. We really felt like family and can taste the love put into the food. We cant wait to return and try everything else! PS BEST CRAB RAGON I'VE HAD MY IN ENTIRE LIFE!
the best
I went here with a group of three people. I will say their orders were delicious! However, mine was not…
I ordered the Thai sushi roll and ate one piece of it and couldn’t stomach the rest. I didn’t expect for it to be in a tortilla and for that mayo to be in and on it.. it was kind of nauseating to me. It was so bad I could’ve returned it because I legitimately stomach to eat more than a bite and ended up wasting my money.
It’s funny because another girl was around and we ended up chatting there and she warned me after the fact to only eat their bowls.
Oh well!
But I will say the other food was amazing! I got to get a bite of the salmon shrimp bowl and it was sooo good. And I thought the spicy crab ragoon was great!
Best crab ragoons ever!!
Great place to go before the Red Wings game.

Great Pho!
The food was awesome! Took a little while to get my order, but it was worth the wait!

Overall, We enjoyed our American street food experience at Detroit Shipping Co.
We had the Crispy Shrimp bowl and the Salmon and curry shrimp bowl. Both were delicious, healthy portions and decently priced. Will definitely be back to order this again when I come in town.
The salmon and shrimp bowl is the best salmon bowl I've ever had. The sauce was sooooo good!!! 10/10
Best Thai food in Detroit
First time visiting Detroit Shipping Company yesterday and Bangkok 96 Street Food gave my sister and I excellent service! My sister is gluten free and they had so many options for her. We used the machine to order quickly and realized we made a mistake. The sweet lady at the register, who I now know is the owner/head chef, corrected it with ease and care. It was all very delicious! We’ll definitely be back!
Crab Rangoon are amazing
Really good food! And filling!
I would love to try more off their menu!
Ate there before the kesha concert. Not only was the food amazing and well priced, but my celiac husband was able to eat there with no reaction. Legit planning trips to detroit for this place. You guys are awesome!
I absolutely love this place. Not only is the food exceptional and reliable, but they use all-natural, high-quality chicken with no antibiotics and you can tell. I think it's the best chicken in Detroit. Also, the owner, Genevieve, is a wonderful person and is always so welcoming. Highly recommended.
Shrimp pasta!! Amazing.
Some of the best Asian food I ever got, I come here everytime after Lions games. The people are amazing and the food and drinks are great, especially their bubble tea. Keep it up!
Excellent creative pad thai
The fried chicken bao buns are amazing
This was a great Thai food experience, but I wasn't prepared for the different menus from Dearborn and Detroit. My husband and oldest daughter wanted to try the duck, but this wasn't an option in Detroit. I got crunchy chicken for my husband, which he thought was good. My two oldest shared the shrimp and salmon, which was a perfect size for two teen girls to share. They really enjoyed the dish. I had the panang curry ("chicken curry" or "yellow curry", tofu may have been an option as well), mildly spiced, and it was delicious! I had the papaya salad, and it was good. This was my first papaya salad, so I'll know what to expect in the future.
I didn't get any rice with my curry, which was unfortunate, but my husband and kids gave me a fair amount of their rice and all of their broccoli, so I had a nice mix of foods to enjoy the sumptuous curry sauce. And now all the leftovers are mine!
And mango rice, yes please! The 8 year old (my picky little Genevieve) didn't like it, but more for mom!
The beeper system worked well at the Detroit shipping company location.
If you are a fan of Thai food, it is definitely worth a taste, even though it's downtown Detroit. I think my tab for three entrees, the salad, and two sticky rice desserts was around $75. With the $10 for safe parking around the Detroit shipping company, it was less than we pay for pizza delivery and far less than we pay for sushi. My teens and Genevieve seem insatiably hungry for fish.
It's far from where I live, but I'd like to try the Dearborn location sometime when I'm on the west side. I will definitely get some spring rolls next time! Chicken satay skewers have always been good for the kids at other Thai restaurants, so we'll try those if they're on the Dearborn menu.
Thank you, Chef Genevieve!
The crispy fried chicken bowl is amazing. We also ordered the spicy crab rangoons, they were not spicy at all (which was fine with me) but sooo tasty. Will absolutely be back.
Good but not $16 for a bowl of rice and half a chicken breast good
The dish we got was absolutely delicious! It was the grilled chicken curry. Not a typical curry that you would normally get, but the flavors were out of this world!
Got chicken curry dish on Saturday. Curry was good. Chicken was awful though - rubbery (maybe refrozen?) and didnt sit well in me after eating. Thought the price and location meant "quality", I guess not.
The restaurant and the others are great...quick service. Good food choices.
Just ate at Bangkok96. Came to Detroit assuming I was going to get shot, instead I fell in love.
As soon as I had that first mouthwatering bite, I knew that I was leaving my wife and children to stay in Detroit. Their love is nothing compared to the warm feeling that I get when eating this Thai food.
They say you die twice. Once, when you get laid in the ground, and once, the last time someone mentions your name. But you can die a third time. You can die having never experienced this Thai food.
If I had to convince Israel and Palestine to stop fighting, this is the food that I do it with.
This is the kind of food that brings about world peace.
So good 🙏
When they say award-winning, they really do mean it. Some of the best Thai food in Michigan hands down! Some days even the Head chef and founder mama Vang is at this location. She is such a sweet & generous person!
Boa buns - perfect to split with someone if you don't want to eat a lot. Or, if you just want both for yourself, they're very tasty yet simple. Husband got pad thai roll, huge, and loved it.
Loved the Pad Thai roll with tofu!
Ordered curry chicken and tender beef here. Chicken was burnt, and curry was way too salty. Beef was hard as rock.
Tasty spot. Will go back.
This place was an insult to the idea of Thai food, just awful in every way possible. The pad Thai roll is wrapped in a TORTILLA topped with a mayo-based sauce! What more is there to say?
Detroit - you need to level up!
The food here was excellent, and the owner handed me a free sample of one of the dishes she had made. The price was a tad high, but well worth it considering how much food I received and how it tastes
I had heard many great things about the restaurant, but was sadly disappointed. I called and was told to place a takeout order over the Square app. No problem! I ordered the fried chicken bao buns, crispy fried shrimp bowl, and the GF bubble Thai iced tea. Including a tip this all came roughly to about $35.00 which is certainly not a problem, however, the first fried shrimp were cooked, the majority of the batter was still wet on the shrimp. I literally bit into multiple pieces and received a nice chunk of cold, batter and uncooked shrimp. The bao buns were okay and so was the tea. Definitely not worth the health risk.
The pad thai roll is not made with rice paper. It's made with flour. Which I don't recall being apart of the Bangkok culture so obviously it doesn't blend well. I was very disappointed. Not good.
Idc what I get from this place it's always so good. The beef and sticky rice is too die for
Incredible food, incredible service. A really kind and delicious place to eat. Thank you for that 🙏
Food! Thai roll is my favorite as well as the fried chicken sticky rice bowl everything is good!
Good food and great place to eat.
Tried to order food at 9:20pm online and could order. Called twice and was told I had to order online. Finally called and talked to an employee and was told that if I didn’t call before 9:00 that it was to late to order and that the only the owner could take the order. Asked to talk to the owner and she was too busy. I told the employee that I had been trying to order since 9:20pm and he said the after 9:00pm the online option was unavailable. I asked if I could order through him and he said no I had to order from the owner. Im done with these businesses.
The pad Thai roll is the best pad Thai I've ever eaten! And this is coming from a pad Thai enthusiast.
The Thai tea was a nice treat as well. Can't wait to come back, the entire menu looks great.
My boyfriend and I were in the area looking for somewhere different to eat before the Red Wings game 1/26/22 and first off, the building is beautiful. I do not think I have ever been to a place that has different places to eat in one building. Its super diverse, which I love and the music was great as well. The hostess was very sweet and informed us on how to order. We ordered from Bangkok 96 and let me tell you.... The food was incredible. Probably the best chicken I've ever had. My boyfriend got the coconut chicken curry and he was so happy. This place has been on our minds ever since. We will be coming back soon to try out more food!
This used to my favorite place! I ate here twice since all the Covid changes. The Pad Thai roll was burnt. The boba Thai tea was watered down milk. It was not sweet or have any Thai tea in it! NOT appetizing at all.
I don’t know what happened to this place, but I will definitely not be coming back.
If you want great food and the opportunity to meet great people come here! Phenomenal ownership and recipes that feel like they’ve been passed down for generations.
I was in the mood for a burger today and saw one advertised on Bangkok 96. It was definitely one of the best culinary surprises of Detroit. The sticky rice "buns" is genius and fun. The Boba tea is a perfect accompaniment. Only thing is.... Come here on an empty stomach .. this place knows how to fill you up... That's a good thing :D
The bao buns are delicious, ordering was simple and fast!
Great food and great customer service. The woman who took my order stopped by and asked how the food was and gave me extra rice once she noticed I was low
The rice noodle chicken bowl and spring rolls w/sauce are outstanding!!
Good food
First of all, I am a big fan of their spicy Thai noodle bowl soup. Moreover, I am a big fan of their fantastic hospitality. When I placed my order for my favorite noodle dish (by telling them how much I love and crave for it!) even though it was not on the menu on that day, the lady showed up from the back of the kitchen and told me that she would see what she can do best for me. A few minutes later, she came back to me with my beloved noodle dish! She generously fulfilled the stranger's request in less than 10 minutes! She even said no to my payment (Don't worry, She got a generous amount of tip from me as my token of appreciation). I am so thankful for the way she loves her customers. Thank you Bangkok 96. You are my go-to restaurant in Detroit.
Bangkok 96 is Chef Genevieve Vang’s finest offering yet. Her imaginative takes on classic Thai plates are flavorful, varied, and filling. The pad Thai roll, chicken dumpling, and candied beef are each uniquely delightful. Besides the great food, Aunt Genevieve herself is the simply most generous, kind, and thoughtful chef and business owner Detroit has to offer. Highly recommend this stall at DSC to satiate your Thai food craving!
The fried chicken bowl with sticky rice is the best dish. The food was fresh and the service on point!
Amazing food and strawberry lemonade is amazing
I have been going to Bangkok 96 in Dearborn for years but just recently discovered their Detroit shipping company location. I have celiac and the street food location has so many gluten free options it’s a dream come true! The fried crispy chicken bowl is amazing and I could eat it everyday. Everyone who works there has always been super friendly and helpful and I’ve never had a bad experience.
Always love this roll. Every time I go, I get it
I have had the salmon and shrimp, the candied beef, and the crispy chicken bowl. Everything is tasty, filled with balanced and contrasting sweetness and beautiful to look at. But the rice. omfg. THE RICE! I don't usually eat much rice, maybe to absorb a the last bits of sauce. The sticky rice here is heavenly. It's a fluffy little chewy cloud that I can joyously eat on its own or easily use to soak up the delicious flavors.
Creative menu, tasty food, incredibly friendly people. Would highly recommend.
Best Thai food in Detroit
The only thing I didn't like was they gave u this small thing off Rice for like 8 Chicken breast. However ending was tasty. Ask for extra sauce for the fried broccoli. It was a different experience.. it was inside The Shipping Company. They say you like it's a restaurant. There are 2 other restaurants you can order from and a bar. The atmosphere is nice as well. I like the experience.
Candy beef wasn't that great. Alot of fatty pieces. Egg roll was awful. Nothing inside of it. Order took 30 min
Good food
The vegan Thai roll: noodles in a tortilla with tofu and lot of sauces to hide the lack of food, the curry needs flavor. Worst Thai food I ever tried.
Two stars because the area is fun.
Really great food.
Delicious red curry! Service is fast and the portion sizes are good. Lots of vegetarian options.
Delicious food and friendly staff. The flavor and portion sizes are perfect. Tons of gluten free and vegetarian options as well! 🥰
I've ordered numerous times and have NEVER had a bad experience. Next time I'm gonna try and take some pics before I devour the food 🤣 The food is delicious and they have never messed up my order or left out items. In times when most of us are spending our money more wisely it's good to know there are places where we can count on for dinner w/o feeling like we wasted our money... photos at all later date
UPDATE: yal know on Ratatouille when the critic put some Ratatouille in his mouth and it took him back to his childhood 🥰thats the 96 Curry dish with chicken and veggies
Hello! I just received three entrées and one starter via Chownow delivery. Yes, they were all for myself. I like to eat tasty foods—and these items certainly qualify!! I had been wanting to try Bangkok 96 in Dearborn for some time now, but I didn't know about this location until I read Chef Vang's incredible profile in the Detroit Free Press yesterday. I knew I had to order.
I absolutely love everything I ordered: the salmon and shrimp curry is exceptional, the pad thai wrap is a lot of fun, the Bangkok shrimp has spectacular flavor, and the papaya salad is just right. Everything was packaged intentionally, with care.
I will be back. I am very happy to support. 🙏🏼
I had the pad thai roll and it was awesome
The Pad Thai Roll is absolutely unbelievable and the staff is always amazing. I ALWAYS look forward to eating here!
Had Grilled Chicken n Wings n Drunken Noodles yesterday. Fantastic flavors and definitely making this a regular stop!!! My leftovers Even tasing amazing the next day for lunch. Really can’t say enough about the super friendly crew working n putting there magic on these awesome dishes. Enjoy folks this is a hidden GEM
Sticky rice is phenomenal
Love the food here, so many good options.
This place has amazing food and the people that work here are even more amazing. Everything we had was delish. Can’t wait to come back and try other things. Thank you Bangkok 96 for the great service.
The worst food ever!!!
The food here is creative, flavorful, and they have things for gluten free people that you usually dont see. For example, the fried/ battered broccoli is SO good!! Its broccoli, but it tastes like candy! Its battered and fried...yet no wheat!? The mango sticky rice I had eaten the entire container before leaving the parking lot...and I ordered my steak rare...it was actually rare! Bravo!! We have yet to enjoy this place in the outdoor seating but will have to soon!
It's SO SO SO good. Great food intolerance awareness-- I'm gluten free and they are labeled and accommodating. The papaya salad is magic.
Quality ingredients and seasoned perfectly. I found my new Thai place in Detroit!
Loved this place. They are located inside the Detroit Shipping Co. and have a great dining sitting area outside. Food was excellent and more importantly Chef Genevieve Vang (owner of the restaurant) was absolutely delightful. Her Flourless strawberry shortcake made by oatmeal is by far the most amazing healthiest cake I ever had! She definitely made our evening with her kind heart and exceptional service. We will definitely be back for more.❤️
Candied beef!💕
I had your Pad Thai Roll tonight, it was amazing!!
Food always looks great and the atmosphere is family oriented. I felt comfortable in this environment and I have a plethora of dishes I would like to try. I will be back again...
Great food here. Always busy on the weekend. I always order grilled chicken or pork. Noodle soup is great too.
I went to Detroit Shipping Company and saw this amazing looking chicken dish that a friend had ordered and said I want that! It was the chicken with sticky rice. Then everyone said that this was definitely the place to try. I even up getting the pork steak with sticky rice instead, so I have an excuse to go back and get the chicken. I ordered it with the hot spice level. This was great, was right on the edge of being too much, but delicious. The meat was seasoned and prepared perfectly. Also tried the pad that roll. It was a great new way to try pad thai, and I really liked the presentation. No regrets, will visit again, sadly it will make it harder to try everything else available here!
YOU'RE WELCOME
Finally a place with real authentic street food. I had the papaya salad which was excellent. Definitely will be back soon! Please do not Americanize the menu.
The food looks good but doesn’t taste good. You have to pay 10$ parking. The food is salty and nothing like thai flavor. Wouldn’t recommend pad thai roll.
Best food, casual atmosphere. Everything is fresh and made to order. Love eating there.
Red Curry is my favorite dish here! For $10 you get a quality meal and big portion! I also love how friendly the staff is! Highly recommend.
If you like your tofu to taste like rubber, I recommend this place. Staff was nice otherwise it would’ve been a one star.
Excellent!!! Great food!
First time there today. - Awesome!!!
I can not recommend this place enough. The food is absolutely amazing, the menu is affordable, the portion is huge, the wait is short, and the service is indescribable. Having spent my whole life in LA until now, I did not expect to find good Asian food in Michigan let alone something of this caliber where it'll be considered top tier in California. This is by far the best new modern Thai food in the Detroit area. My approval is hard to win, but I absolutely fell in love Bangkok 96 Street Food and the master chef owner, Genevieve!
Fun Thai place with unique menu. Not too authentic but very good still.
Hate writing reviews like this but fairly confident I got food poisoning from this place on Sunday night 9/22. Got the candied beef and a bao. Candied beef tasted fine but the bao didn’t. Took a couple bites and it just didn’t taste good, bun tasted stale and there was hardly any meat in it and it just didn’t taste good. Woke up close to 6 hours after eating here with the chills and spent a good portion of the night in the bathroom.
Service was good, price was alright, but I won’t be back. I think I got bad luck of the draw on this one.
Very very good. Can’t go wrong with any dish. Highly recommend.
Great food but I’m giving 3 stars because the girl who works the cash register’s attitude was so off putting. I felt like I was a bother just telling her my order. She barely looked up the entire time. I thought it was just me until she seemed to muster up some cheer for the dude behind me😑. Perhaps I’m not midtown enough?
Ordered chicken and rice to go.
If my party hadn't decided to eat in I wouldn't have had any rice.
How hard is that? Chicken and rice.
You had one job.
Food was fabulously mediocre.
Great quick lunch. Went there with a group of 5 people and everybody enjoyed their meal. Chicken pad thai roll was awesome. Owner was cool, a group of service members in uniform came through and she refused to let them pay.
Great Thai food! Had the papaya salad and the pork and sticky rice. Both had amazing flavors, the pork cooked perfectly, and both had a nice kick from real Thai chili peppers. Wasn’t sure what to expect coming in but it’s now one of my top Thai places in the whole Detroit area.
Came in here for movement weekend and it did not disappoint. Very fresh flavors and it's not too spicy so if you want hot make sure to ask for it. The Thai Wings we're a real treat as they fell off the bone and we're not messy at all.
not bad will return....
Loved the Pad Thai roll & pho! Very fun location👍
Great taste, quality, price.. been here several times and never been disappointed. the quality is top-notch, taste is phenomenal. Everyone I bring here, many from out of town, rave about their food.. I will be back
Good quality food and excellent varaity of restaurants. Clean and organized as well.
Gluten Free Review: tried this for the first time and was so impressed. They had all of their GF items marked so it was easy to order. I went with the candied beef & my group (non-GF) got the Bangkok 96 chicken. We all thought everything was so good, definitely going back again for some more. I would definitely recommend the candied beef for my fellow GFers.
Note: I am not not celiac and do not have issues with cross contamination. If you are celiac please speak with the server before ordering.
