It's a small little place with really great food. We had crab rangoons, which were crispy and the filling was good (not the most crab, but still good); sesame chicken, which wasn't overly sweet but was very crispy and tender; and phat si-io/pad see yew, which was also very good. Service was very friendly and it seemed like tons of people come to get take out. Would recommend! Parking is tight, though...

Ordered takeout for two. Everything we ordered was prepared well and tasted great. I want to try other items, but, with how good everything was, it's going to be hard to not order the exact same items. Portions were enough for 4 small/medium sized meals.

The order consisted of the following:
Thai Spicy Crab Rangoons (homemade, medium spiciness).
Red Curry with chicken. Served with white rice.
Pad See You with chicken

Phenomenal Thai! Only thing to be aware of is there is a long wait as just 1 person cooking. I would double the time estimated on phone … it takes at least 30 min. That said delicious food for great value.

I love their food, been a customer for years … but beware they are bad with pick up times. They have told me on numerous occasions 45mins but it usually is 1 + hours . Numerous times 1 1/2 hrs. Prepare for a much longer wait! But it is worth it!

We order take out from here regularly and they are by far the best Thai food restaurant in the area! I have been to Thailand and their food is as good as an authentic restaurant in Thailand! The pad Thai is so flavorful and the panang curry is amazing. We love the shumai and massaman curry as well! We ordered today and they had a power outage, but still cooked our meal in the dark and gave an extra shumai because we couldn’t get our order of crab rangoons. They have phenomenal service and are such nice people! Highly highly recommend!

May be the best thai food I've ever had, which says a lot considering I just moved from Houston. The spicy basil chicken and the currys are our favorites, but it's all great, and portions are large enough for leftovers.

This was okay. The flavors different from traditional Thai restaurants. Why is the Pad Thai noodle brown? Why does a $32 seafood madness specialty contain mostly shrimp and some calamari but states that it comes with scallops and mussels? Also, the containers were equivalent to salad bar brown boxes -- bad for spillage! And too expensive. We won't be going back and I would like a refund.

Proper Thai-style flavor. Some fusion elements but if if you've lived somewhere with access to good Thai food and the other places in Wakefield just didn't hit the same, Red Sugar is like a breath of fresh air.

The curry dishes are very tasty but at times a bit too heavy and rich. They add lots of tofu which is great but not many other veggies. Overall really really good food. The pad thai is super peanut-y and delicious… The reason for the 3 star review is that they often do not pick up their phone during business hours, or if they do pick up they tell you to call back later, immediately hang up on you, and then either you can’t get through again or they tell you again to call back. Very frustrating. I’ve had to give up on about half of the occasions I’ve tried ordering from them.

The staff here pours their heart and soul into every dish. If you want good authentic Thai food from a mom and pop shop, this is the place to go.

The food is delicious and gets 5 stars, but getting ahold of them is often incredibly difficult. Most of the time they don't pick up the phone, sometimes they pick up and hang up without saying anything, and sometimes you get asked to call back 5 times in a row. Their answering machine says they're perpetually closed, so you're never quite sure if calling again is a waste of time. Big ol' bummer.

Being a lover of all things Thai... Especially the food and eaten at dozens of Thai Restaurants I can say that no one compared to Red Sugar Cafe in Wakefield, MA!

Their food is delicious from the 1st to the last nite, whether I'm dining in or getting to go they are always consistent.

If you just "like" Thai Food then you will "LOVE" Red Sugar!

Got our first takeout the other day since the pandemic started and wow, was it good. We've gone to the Red Sugar Cafe for years, but it just tasted better than ever. A green curry, pad thai and chicken satay. It made my night!! Thank you!!

Red sugar is one of my favorite Thai restaurants, not just in the Boston area, but the whole country. Me and my family regularly drive up from Boston just to eat at this place. The family that works there are some of the nicest people around.

Great food and quick service. We only get takeout or delivery since we live nearby, but they do have a small dining room if you want to eat there.

When they mention things are spicy on their menu, they actually are - unlike some Thai places, which is great.

This was an excellent Thai restaurant. Very small and oddly designed (kitchen is open to the very small dining area), but the food was excellent. Ordered Pad Thai and Basil Fried Rice. The Pad Thai was great with a good sweetness. The Basil Fried Rice was flavorful and spicy (which is indicated on the menu). I would highly recommend this place if you're in the area and in the mood for Thai.

Note:. Small open kitchen means spice can be in the air. I would not recommend for a romantic dinner or first date. They appear to do a sizable pickup/delivery service.

It helps that i just really like Thai food, but this place does do a good job. The portions are more than adequate, i might also add. I can't say I've ever eaten in the restaurant, which is quite small, but it's good for take out.

Red Sugar Cafe is the best Thai place around! Everything is delicious and I always compare other places to them. The mango curry, tom yum fried rice, chicken pineapple are all fantastic. Everything is great, never have been disappointed. And when it gets cold, Sandy makes the best hot tea around!

A true hidden gem! Awesome family owned local business that has some of the best authentic Thai food I've ever had. The Drunken Noodle is my go to and it is absolutely delicious every single time! Their Thai iced tea is one of my all time favorites too. Highly recommended!

I live on the same street as this restaurant and can't recommend it enough. We always get take out but there are a few tables for dining in. Family owned and run with love. Food is hands down the best Thai I've ever had (never had authentic Thai in Thailand yet). Go here often. Love it as much as we do!

This cozy Thai restaturant is a true hidden gem, and the very definition of a small local business worth supporting. It's run by a family that manages every aspect of their small operation; they cook delicious, authentic cuisine that nourishes both body and soul. Not only is the food amazing, but these are wonderful, hard-working people who truly appreciate each customer and their patronage. On a recent visit, a woman was working alone to cook, package, and serve an endless stream of orders, reassuring everyone that she was doing her best to keep up and apologizing for the delay. She was so thankful to everyone who waited patiently for their home-cooked meal, and bowed graciously to me as I paid and made to leave. What a very special place.

I live in Boston and there is no Thai food that even comes close to the quality of Red Sugar. Best Thai restaurant in the area and the nicest family.

Best Thai food in Wakefield

The food is great so order just takeout because it is NOT suitable for dining in. Sitting is cramped, the meals took forever to cook, and the air is so smokey that all of us kept coughing. Order takeout to avoid all that and you will love the food.

Doesn't get any better then Red Sugar Cafe.

They will custom make your dish tonyour liking whether its mild, spicy or extra spicy they will make it right every time. Its my favorite place for so many reasons and I highly recommend Red Sugar Cafe to all Thai food lovers.

I think this place is overrated. Ordered mango fried rice, red sugar cafe wings and pad thai. Nothing out of the ordinary. Chicken was definitely not fresh. Parking is very limited. Staff was friendly.

I moved up here to the Boston area 5 years ago, and had difficulty since then in finding a Thai place that was as good as my favorite place from near my home town. Red Sugar Cafe surpasses my old favorite. We went here on a whim, just having found it in a google search near by. BEST DECISION. My fiancé and I shared the thai crab ragoon and an order of the pineapple fried rice. He ordered the general gau's chicken and I had the mango curry. All of it was amazing-- the thai ragoons were very light and super fresh, there was plentiful pineapple fried rice, the general gau's had a tangy taste that differed from any other, and my mango curry had enough sweet heat for me to wish I had more room in my stomach to eat it all. The portions were huge; we took some home and the reheated leftovers were just as good.

Totally recommend. Will come here again. Not only for the food, but the husband-wife duo cooking and the sister serving us. Very charming, authentic family run restaurant.

Just had a wonderful meal at Red Sugar in Wakefield. I was with two others and we ordered the Pineapple Chicken, Red Curry and Garlic Udon. A couple tips if you've never been. One, it's BYOB, so bring a bottle of vino. If you forget, there is a liquor store around the corner. Two, parking is a bit tough so you might have to park and walk a bit, just a heads up. Otherwise, we'll be going back - this is Wakefield's little gem.

Hands down the best Thai food I have found in MA! and ranks in the top 3 I have had anywhere. It is small, family run, and only open for dinner service, take out optional. If driving far, call and make sure they are open that night. I highly recommend the Pad Thai, Pad se ew, & crab wontons!

Only a handful of tables - approximately 8 - and a tight fit all around. But....service was fast and reliable and the food was fantastic.

We shared an order of spicy chilli wings, and they were wonderfully seasoned, crispy, and cooked perfectly.

We then shared two entrees: an order of pad thai and a spicy rice dish (with chicken and shrimp and an assortment of veggies); note the latter was seasoned with sriracha and carried with it just the right amount of heat.

Delicious food at a terrific value. Can't wait to go back!

All the food I've gotten from here is incredible. The only downside is that it's only open for dinner, the hours listed on Google are incorrect.
