Relaxed dining room serving Thai curries, noodles & more, all with a choice of spice levels.
Great dishes. This will be an ongoing review.
Beef pad kaprow-- classic favorite spicy dish.
Thai chili tilapia --one of the best dishes.
Curry puff -- not recommended. Too starchy and gummy texture.
First time being here and I have to say I’m impressed. The Pad Thai was really good and the service was really good. Everyone was really friendly and helped me through the process of ordering. The environment was also very clean and calming which made me feel at peace. Definitely recommend coming here if you’re in the area.
I ordered Pad Thai and asked for "hot" spice level. It was good but as far as spice level goes there was none. It was disappointing. My boyfriend's meal was also pretty bland in that aspect. The crab rolls were good but the alcohol offerings were pretty limited. We went here because we had tickets for a nearby concert. Next time we go to that venue we'll probably look around for other options.
Food was not good. Not even mid. Wasn't worth the price at all. Portion size was small and outside of the hot spice, the food had no flavor, very bland. The noodles were rubbery. It was my first and last try. I've had better from carryouts

My boss treated me to lunch I decided to get the starter Roti Kanai with Yellow Curry Chicken it was 8.99 plus tax. The roti was AMAZING, but the portion was not fit for a child. one small diced piece of chicken , one diced carrot and one small piece of potato. The curry was not bad, but not my favorite it was a little too sweet. I like when curry has a savory taste. I would not go back, it was very underwhelming.
Hostess chased us down the street to give us the Thai iced tea we forgot. They're great!

Food is not as tasty as when it first opened. Not as aromatic, less authentic ingredients. Ordered Drunken noodles and Summer Roll (skip it).
Service and presentation of the food was unexpectedly delightful. We will be back.

Well executed Thai faire in an elegant setting, reasonable prices with excellent cocktails
Food was horrible extremely sweet poorly packed and I got food poisoning
Delicious and just the right level of spice! Definitely a $20-$30 place as of 2024 - admittedly the portions are huge so if you're not very hungry you can probably get 2 meals out of a portion
Absolutely 💯 my favorite Thai Restaurant in the DMV! Everything is good. Meat is always cooked right! Just LOVE them. ❤️
This place deserves a 5 star rating. The pad Thai is amazing! And they deliver through their website much cheaper than Uber etc.
Their food is so delicious. I LOVE their Drunkin Noodles (number 57) omg! Chefs kiss!
The seafood delight was so bland.
Super delicious!
This place is fairly decent. Food isnt spectacular but it's mostly edible. Do not order the vegetable soup. The Thai tea was a bit watery for having no ice. Maybe after being in Thailand my expectations are higher?
The Roti Kanai with Curry was so good! Definitely worth going back!
Love this place the food is amazing every time I come to town this is my go to
This review is only for the Pad Thai as that's all I had. It was OK, certainly not great and too greasy for my liking. The chunks of tofu were much too large and were therefore quite bland. I didn't wind up finishing the whole meal. It served its purpose as I needed to eat something for dinner and it was getting late, but I was hoping for better. Certainly not awful or bad, but just OK. The service was very good and friendly.
I don't normally leave reviews but Kao Thai was just so incredible that I had to. The food was delicious and reasonably priced, service was incredible, we were 4 people and received our order in literally 5 minutes. Not even an exaggeration, the food came out fresh and ready with almost no waiting time. We were so happy with the service and everything about Kao Thai. 10/10.
The food is awesome :)
Delicious.
Very disappointed 😞 food wasn't fresh at all.We both ordered the Seafood fried rice the Seafood was old taste squid was horrible never tasted squid Crewy dry, hard to Crew. Mussle couldn't crew My friend and I both were very Disappointed. Tried for the first time. I will never go back!!
I came here with two friends, and we were all blown away by the quality of everything we had!
I expected better from the reviews. Meh.
The food is incredible. Loved the Dragon Noodles, crispy chicken, and curry chicken puff.
Pumpkin red curry was delicious. We had it with chicken. Yum. The Siam salmon was nice, as were the skewers and the Papaya salad. Great service.
I've eaten at quite a few Thai restaurants, and this one was by a large margin tasted the worst. I ordered the Pad Thai and Dragon Noodles, and they were both really, really not good. Bad enough that I feel as though I ate from a different restaurant than other reviewers.
Great Thai food!
I want to rate 0/5! Over priced lunch without explanation. Serve you a dinner price at lunch! Hurry you to order expensive meals! Don’t visit here and don’t waste your money!
Lovely and fantastic restaurant. The staff, place and prices are great. My meal drunken noodles delicious and they made it extra spicy.
Excellent food and Thai ice tea. The price and service was fantastic.
Drunken curry was not very good, definitely wouldn’t get that again.
We ordered about 10 dishes last night. They were all tasty. The drunken noodles and pineapple fried rices were excellent. The papaya salad was a little sweet though. The server was friendly.
Ordered takeout. Drunken noodles had zero flavor. Expected better based on the 4+ star
Food was excellent. Fast and great service for takeout.
got delivery here and there were multiple hairs (long and reddish, clearly not mine) in my food. ended up throwing away the whole order because i was so grossed out. i haven’t been here in person but i can’t imagine it’s clean in the kitchen.
I ordered Pad see Ew to go and the veggies had a strange after taste. Tasted like they were in the freezer for too long possibly before being cooked. Or maybe the veggies we not good? I ate it anyway, but I don’t think I’ll come back. Flavors were there, but not super authentic enough for me.
All great and very fast!
Over priced and very mediocre quality - massaman curry and drunken noodles
Excellent, I loved everything in here
Great foof, great experience, good job guys.
Yummy 😋
Really good food. Only complaint was there wasn’t enough rice served. Requesting more rice would cost extra.
Always authentic thai dishes freshly prepared
Best Thai in the area. Pad Thai, green curry and Stir Fry beef were all so delicious. Inside dining is very authentic - no frills but friendly staff. Loved it!
The best in Silver Spring. My family's favorite💓
Ordered Pad Thai (Sweet) + Drunken Noodles (Spicy). The restaurant deserves a much better rating, food was really good and reasonably priced.
I love this place great food and amazing customer service, the staff are more than friendly. Great job
Love this place! Really recommend it
Omg this lil jewel. The Thai was theee best I have had in years. Fresh, clean, and traditional. Tom yum, spring rolls drunken shrimp spring rolls, Tom Sum, Pad Thai all delicious. Would Highly recommend. Location is dated but food off the charts. No pics because I ate it all!
This is one of my favorite spots in the neighborhood! The pumpkin curry and pad Thai are especially good.
Great food and reasonably price. Great customer service.
This place is so underrated, I've tried every Thai place in silver spring and this stands out for having delicious curries and (most importantly to me) not dumping sugar/sweetness into every dish like a lot of other Thai places do. The food is just delicious.
Great Thai foodc
Not sure which product had msg in it maybe the pad Thai , but I had a massive headache from it . Food was decent otherwise upon tasting.
Great food with amazing Thai street crepes dessert that is a must-try
Always love their food. Excellent taste and always customized to suit my preference
Consistently terrific food, friendly staff, wide selection of dishes. Ambience is adequate and I only took off a star because parking can be tough and also because they close from 3:30 to 5:00 daily, so no late lunch or early dinner available.
Great food at a good price. Service was wonderful.
The dishes I liked were Drunken Noodles and Fried Banana
Food was very tasty & authentic. If you are looking for a great Thai food you should try it here
Grabbed a quick dinner here before a show at the Fillmore.. kinda small interior but a big menu of items. The crab spring rolls were interesting..not sure I would order them again. Enjoyed my pad see ew although I asked for it to be spicy and it wasn't. My friends enjoyed their Chicken Kaprow as well.
Great service and prices, we were headed to a concert and didn’t have a lot of time but everything came out quick and getting the check was super efficient. All the food was delicious, we got spring rolls and pad Thai jae. Even got frosted glasses with our beers! 10/10
Was pretty mediocre overall. Prices were alright but the food lacked flavor. A friend got the drunken noodles with tofu and all she was given was 3 small pieces. That’s unacceptable for an entree. Nothing special about this place but if you really want Thai food this is an alright place in a pinch
I’m responding to the Boston person who clearly ordered a Chicken larb but is complaining because ground chicken was used. That’s the recipe! Ground chicken or pork! Why would you mark a small local business down because you have no context about the cuisine and refuse to do a simple google search. Please lets all be better.
I did not eat the food. I walked in for a table, saw what appeared to be a large roach climbing the wall behind the hostess by the light switch. Someone else next to me saw it and pointed it out to the hostess. She said it was "OK" - it clearly was not, and I left to go somewhere else.
Visiting from NY and ordered Chicken Gang Pa Curry and my wife ordered Shrimp Thai Fried Rice for take out. The curry was great, and the fried rice was great, only complaint would be that, we were told our food would be ready in 30mins but it took an hour.
Amazing yellow curry
Yellow curry with tofu was outstanding!
Prices on website are incorrect and they do not honor them. I am a first time customer and was not told the prices were raised and it’s not listed on the website anywhere. I can understand if you need to raise prices but tell customers the new prices.
Dumplings are bad but pad see ew is good.
Bad food, Bad Service, overall bad experience, would recommend you to eat somewhere else.
The service was very bad and the food is OK.
Ordered pad Thai and summer rolls. Unpleasant experience. Summer rolls had exactly one small shrimp each and were made entirely of lettuce, no noodles, and very poorly made. Pad Thai smelled and tasted rank. Could not eat. Will not return. Still in search of a reasonably good Thai place in area.
While running an errand in Downtown Silver Spring, Jon and I enjoyed Thai Iced Teas from Kao Thai Restaurant. While we waited for our teas, we got hungry looking at the specials. We admitted we had to return for dinner sometime in the near future.
Good dinning option if you are in the area. The portions are good and the quality of the ingredients too. The service was fast.
If you want a really special meal stick to the chef's choices. The other items are very impressive and the service was so so.
Nothing authentic about this Thai restaurant. The seafood was overcooked and tough. No authentic flavors at all. The soup was good but it probably came out of a can. The chicken satay was bland not made in house the sweet and sour pork was far too sweet. Over all I would have given it a 1 star but the wine was good and the service acceptable. If you want an average meal then it is ok.
Amazing & flavorful food. I’ll definitely return!
This place has a really amazing Thai food, everything is so well season.
Flavorful pad thai and spring rolls
Food was ok, except for a starter which was a frozen food, they didn't make it, Veggie dumplings. There is a delay in getting the order, delivery of orders were brought one by one while whole group of friends dine in. Short staffed at this time.
Amazing Thai restaurant! You can tell they take pride in their establishment as soon as you walk in the door. Service was excellent and their Red Curry was one of the best I have ever had. Don't miss out on this place!
Got carry out the other day. Quick to make the order, excellent food. When you can sit and eat, they have several beer and wine options.
This place is always good I have never eaten indoors I always call in my order or go in to order the food it’s really good & you get plenty of it the variety and the food is always nice and hot.
Their pad thai Jae and fried rice jae are the best I've had! The portion sizes are as big as the flavor. The ambience is lovely. Definitely recommend
We did take out an ate outside on their patio. Made for a great dinner. Good food fair price nice people.
This is a Silver Spring stable, great Thai food at reasonable prices. My wife and I get takeout from them regularly and it's always good. They have a big menu too. Try the Pumpkin Curry and Gang Pa (Jungle) Curry, they're both very flavorful and not available at most Thai places in the US.
Very good food. Not crazy about the non-composable plastic takeout containers they use, but they were fine with using the takeout containers I had.
For the 5 star rating (on taste and authenticity), I was left disappointed. The service was good but the curry was dominated with an overly sweet and spice-filled dominance versus the authentic flavors I'm use to from the dish.
I am a frequent visitor there. The food is a bit on the greasy side but still tasty. Lately the portions are definitely cut smaller.
The best thai restaurant in the DMV area, certainly in Silver spring. Not a single dish I have not liked here.
This has been our go to Thai spot in DTSS for my wife and I the past 4 years. Even through COVID times they deliver. The food quality is consistent and we will continue to show our support.
Stay Away From this place. Since Covid Food not good. Rice hard and not fresh. I am tall so I can see into Kitchen, watched cook handle food no mask no gloves, while tasting someone’s order and sending it out for pickup or delivery. This is very unsafe during Covid. Also very POOR money hungry Manager with no care for Customers or Customer Service. Beware of this place. Food salty and not fresh. Do yourself a Favor and spend your money somewhere else that serves FRESH FOOD and cares about the safety of Customers.
Authentic Thai food
Only got the pad thai but it was good and prepared quickly.
Tasty food and very nice people! Also loved the desserts at their new cafe nextdoor Sweetaria.
Great food great service
Amazing every time.
Fave thai restaurant in the DMV area
Must have been on an off night because the food was only ok - not that flavorful and definitely not at the spice level requested. Definitely not bad, but had better nearby. The portion of rice we got was also very small. I did really like how wide the rice noodles were for the pad see ew. Additionally, they wildly underestimated how long it would take to prepare our order. We were told 25-40 min, and I arrived after 40 min and waited another 20-30 min for the order to be ready and this happened to everyone who came in while I was there. I would much rather be given a more accurate wait time so I don't waste my time standing in line.
I am not sure if only my order was made this way, but I was on my way to NJ and chose this place for my dinner for us because of its good ratings. We had crab rolls ( there was no cream cheese in it), chicken satay was also just satisfactory it wasn't cooked with enough spices. Drunken noodles was soooo blant and the sauce was extremely liquidy in it. Overall taste was blant, which is so different for Thai food.
Just so delicious, every time. And good service.
Kao Thai has always been a stop for me anytime I find myself in Downtown Silver Spring. I used to be a frequent eater here when I lived in DTSS (have since relocated to Baltimore), but anytime I find myself back in town I make sure to make a quick stop to dine in or grab some takeout. I’m personally a huge fan of their Green Curry which in my opinion outdoes almost every Thai restaurant in the area, but have had their Pad Thai on occasion which I find great as well! I recently picked up some takeout and they were doing a great job handling the pandemic with a unique pen system and their overall organization. I hope to eat food from here for years to come! (Picture of green curry is from a time before the pandemic).
Poor quality takeout. The vegetarian summer rolls were just lettuce and tofu in a rice wrap. No basil or vermicelli. Everything else was very greasy, which I don't associate with Thai food. The Tom Kha soup had huge chunks of ginger floating around in it and lots of oil at the top. I feel bad for rating a local business poorly but I ordered from them based on the stellar reviews here.
Best Thai food spot I've found in downtown SS. Friendly staff too
We ordered pickup last night - it was ready in 10 minutes and was delicious! The Drunken Noodle was especially tasty. We'll definitely be back.
Excellent Thai food. A bit more pricey than what I expected but we'll worth it.
Excellent Thai food
מסעדה מעולה עם אווירה טובה ומנות טעימות
Absolutely delicious. Great staff and a beautiful dine area. The best sesame chicken I've ever had.
worst thai food i have ever had .. and i eat alot of thai food! the wait was extremely long for cold food my husband ordered fried salmon with basil sauce it was actually over cooked and the sauce was so thick like it came from a jar i ordered shrimp pumpkin curry it was more of a soup not how how curry consistency should be at all shrimp was overcooked and tasted fishy and old i did not eat my food absolutely a waste of time and money
Great food. Very well done and great service. The best. Good job. We will be back. Great prices.
Curry was good, pad thai was ok. There was a fishy taste to the noodle, likely because of a fish broth?
Overall good.
Crowded but service was relatively quick.
I usually love this place but today my food was not hot and it was room temperature warm. That really upset me that I paid my money and didint get the good service. Now I'm thinking should I go back. My food was too sweet than usual and this was fried rice. No smiles on the people's face.
Delicious food, and exactly what we were looking for. We needed something to eat on our way to an event and are very happy with our experience. The employees are friendly, the food was fresh, hot, and not over-seasoned. This place has nice decor and music playing in the background. It was busy (popular), but we were seated right away and our orders were prepared quickly. This is our new go-to food option when we're in Silver Spring.
The food great, I love the eggplant dish
This was my first time visiting Kao Thai. Upon walking in I noticed there was a nice size crowd, which is usually a good sign, but the place didn't feel packed The food was fantastic. Each person had a different dish and everything ordered was really good. The staff was very cordial with the right amount of attentiveness. Looking forward to going back.
One of my favorite Thai restaurants in the DMV area. Always good service & delicious food with decent portions. Park in one of the nearby garages.
