Casual dining. Really good food and service.

Why do you keep serving old food like we don't know it's old? First the chicken is old. Then I try something else and that's old too. Never coming back! And I have been coming here for years!

Diner Review №4

Ordered a full dinner menu for 4 people including soup. Not impresse. Very average food and not worth the value and the price point it has.

Generally like the restaurant but second time I have ordered delivery and ordered veg green curry and sent chicken green curry (they don’t pay attention to there tickets)

The restaurant is large with plenty of seating, clean with a beautiful smell. The drinks smell just as nice being topped with flower petals. Drinks look pretty and are just as tasty. This is a good spot for a cute little date night, grabbing food with the friends, and a place one can feel comfortable enjoying a solo meal. The customer service is great with pretty female staff that’s friendly and helpful. Great happy hour deals. Portions are good for the price. I have been to a couple of other Sala Thai restaurants around the city and this is a more laidback less busy experience.

Delicious and reasonably priced. I'll be back.

Diner Review №13

i was staying in bethesda for a weekend and stopped by this cute little place right by my hotel. overall the prices aren't bad and the wait is short! it has a really nice and spacious atmosphere too. if i'm ever in bathesda again i'll be sure to order from here again!

Diner Review №14

Sala Thai is a restaurant I have continued to find myself back at time and time again over the span of many many years. It is always welcoming, comfortable, and the meals are always consistent and delicious. I most often order the drunken noodles, but I also enjoy the Pad Thai, and panang curry. It would never be a true meal without the spring rolls, they’re my favorite- order them with a side of peanut sauce too! This is a forever go-to restaurant in my, and my family’s life. I’ve also had it delivered through Uber eats and it’s just as wonderful. Sala Thai is Bethesda’s cozy corner spot to settle in and enjoy a warm meal.

Diner Review №15

Sala Thai is a fantastic choice for Thai cuisine in Bethesda. The green curry and pumpkin curry are both outstanding—rich, flavorful, and perfectly spiced. The fried rice is also a great addition to the meal. The service is friendly and attentive, making the dining experience even better. Highly recommend it.

Diner Review №16

Best Thai food in this city..

Diner Review №17

Service great, food pretty standard fairly tasteless pad Thai and pad soon wen, inside dingy

Diner Review №18

Maybe it was just to warm And sticky in there. They had fans running, but too sticky.

Food is good. Not special, but pretty good.

Diner Review №19

This was a good find on a Friday night. Walking in to find a Jazz trio playing was a special surprise.

The wait staff, all women were roaming around the room providing service. The plane wooden table and chairs gave a clean bare look to the interior of the room. There were tasteful decorations around the room providing the perfect backdrop. Someone on the wait staff were checking in on the table regularly. Service was very attentive.

The food was wonderful, tasty, served with care. House salad was crisp and had a traditional dressing. The spring rolls were delicious.

The band was a treat. They played traditional Jazz and standards. They were engaged with the room and the diners were encouraged too.

Diner Review №20

Diner Review №21

Ordered take out. Small portions, hardly any veggies, one tiny thing of rice for order of penang curry chicken, chicken was overcooked. I will not order from here again!

Diner Review №24

Excellent place!! 👌 👏 👍 🙌 We were there several times and every time was excellent! The atmosphere, food and service!! Pumpkin Red Chic for $15.95, Red Curry Duck with Brown rice, $19.95, Tom Yum- $6.95, Pad Thai -$13.95. I would recommend each of those excellence!

Diner Review №25

This was our 1st time eating here and we plan to go back soon! Food and service is excellent here! We got calamari, crab rangoon, and spring rolls for the appetizers and Thai Tea and waters to drink. For dinner we had Red Curry with chicken, drunken noodles, and Som Tam Thai (papaya salad). Highly recommend every one of those items!
Got a table right away (good timing on our part lol) and our servers were attentive and quick to get refills before our glasses were halfway empty.
For 3 people to get all of that, our bill was around $95 before tip.

Diner Review №26

Great Thai place. They are great at accommodating to dietary restrictions, food is delicious!

Diner Review №30

We got order delivered from here. I got pineapple chicken and my fiancée got pineapple fried rice. I’ve never had such under-seasoned Thai food in my life. I had to remake my partners rice with more seasoning and my pineapple chicken was ok, very boring. More sour than anything with no dimension in the flavors.

Diner Review №31

Perhaps riding on its good reputation, some details have started to slip. Dessicated chopped green onions were my garnish today. Instead of giving me a side a sauce for my spring rolls, there was simply a puddle beneath them.

Diner Review №32

Amazing staff! Best customer service ever! Good ambiance. Will definitely go back again.

Diner Review №33

Great service, amazing food, nice atmosphere and clean restrooms!

Diner Review №34

Great selection of Thai food with fast service. Also had good lunch specials.

Diner Review №35

Used to order from this place often, then I found a hair in my lunch (takeout). I called in to share my experience and was told that my name would be taken down and whenever I wanted, I could come back and get a free meal so to speak. It took me a couple of months, but eventually I got over my yuck and went in only to be told that I needed to show my receipt and that they were sorry, but they had no way of verifying what I was saying. I get it, don’t want to get scammed, but still left a bad taste in my mouth and I won’t be going back.

Diner Review №36

Diner Review №37

The food was good and so were the drinks but I’d describe the overall experience as unremarkable. The pricing was a bit high but their portions are great. While the servers were somewhat attentive, it took a while for us to order. Another group was seated and ordered before they came back to us. It wasn’t that busy so it was a bit frustrating. Even while ordering our waitress tried walking away before we were done. It felt as if they were prioritizing the online orders, which was not ideal. I was happy to leave. If you want to eat here, order pickup or delivery.

Diner Review №38

Food is ok at best. It's set up more like a bar that happens to serve Thai food. Giant glass window on an intersection downtown. If you enjoy the headlights from cars blinding you in a booth then it's your kinda place.

Diner Review №39

Good and constant Thai food. Generous portions. Nice restaurant

Diner Review №40

Diner Review №41

Just like I remembered it. For lunch we had good size portions, food was fresh and tasted delicious. And the service was great.

Diner Review №42

Authentic Thai food. Taste so good. Love the drunk noodle and red curry very much. Friendly service and nice dinning atmosphere. With band show at weekend. Would love to come back again!

Diner Review №43

Great atmosphere and great customer service.

Diner Review №44

The food was average and not very flavorful. We had the prow chicken dish and it was warm like it was not freshly made. You can probably find better in this area. Just my opinion.

Diner Review №45

This is the 2nd time I have come to this restaurant. The waitress is always friendly and fast. The food has been delicious everytime. This visit I had a total of 5 guests, and we were served drinks and food in 20 min. Love this place.

Diner Review №46

Diner Review №47

As a loyal customer of Sala Thai, I've always enjoyed their delicious food and welcoming atmosphere. However, my recent visit left me feeling disappointed. Despite placing my order 40 minutes in advance, it was not ready upon arrival, and there was no acknowledgment or apology for the delay. When I requested an extra container, I was surprised to be met with the response, 'there's no free lunch,' which I found rather disheartening. As someone who has frequented this establishment for quite some time, I believe that a more understanding and customer-focused approach could have been taken. While I still value the food quality, I hope for better service experiences in the future.

Diner Review №48

Well I was told by some locals that there was no really good Thai food in Bethesda but I thought I would just risk it anyway cuz I really wanted Thai food. Unfortunately they're right. This was the highest rated place in the area and the food was really bad. I didn't know you could ruin a noodle dish. The noodles were way soggy, mushy and overcooked. There was no sauce or much flavor with the Pad See U. The Tom Ka soup, which smelled really odd but tasted ok, had very few ingredients in it. The portions of the main dishes are generous but otherwise, I say take the extra time and go to the District.

Diner Review №49

Diner Review №50

Nice little spot within walking distance of where I was staying (The Bethesdan). Drunken noodles were a perfect spice level and really liked the extra wide rice noodles used.

Diner Review №51

Diner Review №52

Be warned if you order Tom Ka soup (coconut soup) they must put fish sauce in that soup. It smells very fishy which is not what we are used to. It totally ruins and overpowers the flavor.

Diner Review №53

Food is always outstanding.

Diner Review №59

Today there is Karen... the beautiful songs ..makes the place even alive

Diner Review №60

Mild Thai spice should not mean without flavor. I had the crispy duck which was over steamed vegetables and am still searching for the flavor. The duck (not certain it was duck) was battered and fried which masks the flavor of this meat. The sauce was not rich and I really couldn’t appreciate the basil. I didn’t finish it. My appetizer was the steamed dumplings which were also nothing exceptional. I’m not Asian so don’t pretend to be an expert but I have had Thai food all over the world. This doesn’t rank very highly.
Service was very good quick and friendly.
This spot in Bethesda has been a Thai restaurant for decades. It is not the same.

Diner Review №61

1st time at Sala Thai and an absolutely positively delicious experience.
Oops forgot to take pictures but the food was delicious.

Diner Review №67

I used to love this place! I ordered drunken noodle, pad, Thai, and fried rice. They all tasted the same with the same brown sauce except the rice with spicy. Very disappointing

Diner Review №68

Noice

Diner Review №69

Diner Review №70

Asked to use the restroom, was informed I had to be a customer in order to do so which is understandable. So I bought a canned soda. Why is a can coke 5$, that's ridiculous!

Diner Review №71

While a patient at Walter Reed, my wife picked up some takeout. Tried the pad thai...also my entry dish to evaluate a Thai restaurant for the first time. Pad that was very good...good spice, hint of lime. It was good enough that I would come back and try other dishes. My wife had the green curry and liked it. The garden rolls were good, too.

Diner Review №74

Really average Thai food . I ordered drunken noodles. 2 stars are only for location.

Diner Review №75

Got food from this restaurant thru Uber eats and Spicy fried rice with shrimp tasted stale and hard like it was old rice that they kept way too long . My stomach has not been the same since . I thru most of it away . Will not order from this place ever again

Diner Review №76

Great spot and convenient...

Diner Review №77

I ordered food to be delivered. Pad Tai--noodles broken up and stuck together, very few vegetables and little flavor.

Diner Review №78

Diner Review №79

My family and I were in the mood for Thai food, and I decided on Sala. Sala was located 5 minutes away from our hotel in Bethesda. We kept it simple and ordered a few dishes from the menu, and it was prepared within 15 mins. We ordered 3 different styles of fried rice with chicken, dumplings, and spring rolls. The food was delicious! It was fresh, spicy, just the way I like it. We all enjoyed it and recommend it if you are in the area.

Diner Review №80

Food is good always!!!! Atmosphere is relaxing and very spacious with lots of light. Service was quick and friendly.

Diner Review №81

Upon entering the front door, the staff was ready to greet us - all three of them in the front were gracious. The calamari appetizer was serviced with a light panko dusting and a mild sweet vinegary fish sauce. A perfect blend. The fried red snapper went well with the ginger sauce. Dessert was fried banana and coconut ice cream, a delectable Thai treat.

Diner Review №82

What an amazing lunch with my friend Sama! The lunch menu is flexible with a choice of Al a cart or you can order a combo. The staff were attentive and helpful. The space is open and airy. There’s no outside seating.

Diner Review №83

Mai Tai island was very interesting but I enjoyed it. The mussels are really good and light. And the mini garden is a beautiful touch!

Diner Review №84

Diner Review №85

Diner Review №86

Very good tai food!

Diner Review №87

Really good food ( the pumpkin & chicken curry was delish!) And nice atmosphere. On Fri nt had jazz trio that was excellent!!

Diner Review №88

Best to call ahead for this location. It took them about 12 minutes to actually acknowledge I was there even though I was standing at the bar. The waiter told me there was a 30 minute wait to receive my order which was understandable as it was 7:19PM. What I was not expecting was to watch multiple people, dining in and ordering take out, leave with larger orders than mine. I didn't receive my order until 8:21 with barely even a mention.

Diner Review №89

Specialty food, nice price and got favorite dessert😊

Diner Review №90

Their seafood fried rice with noodle is really good nice staff and speedy service

Diner Review №91

Diner Review №92

Diner Review №93

The chicken pad thai is really good. As of today, they still do not accept mobile payments.

Diner Review №94

Ordered the Pad Thai. This was the dryest noodle dish I have ever had. 10/10 do not recommend.

Diner Review №95

The location is convenient and with good view for people watching. The evening when we were there they had people playing Jazz plus the four star review made us want to give it a try. However we were quite disappointed with the food and extremely slow service. I had a duck soup, it was 50% soy sauce and not a soup! My husband had drunken noodles, the beef was tough and leathery and the noodles were oily and overcooked. It was a big sheet of rice noodle! Not sure who the cook is - I suspect it is Thai food reimagined with soy sauce and minced garlic. Overall maybe 2.5 stars.

Diner Review №96

Stopped in for an early dinner and I’m so happy that I did. The service was quick. The food was delivered fresh, hot and full of spices and flavor. I had the Thai Chicken Fried Rice and Spring Rolls. I would highly recommend.

Diner Review №97

Diner Review №98

We tried this restaurant for the first time and it was okay. The shrimp roll was good but the Pad Thai was OK. It was little dry too. The curry was OK as well. The duck was good. Our server was quite busy so we had to wait and ask other servers few times for other things. Other than that, we didn't have any issues. I would still try this restaurant again to try out different items.

Diner Review №99

Food was excellent, service was amazing highly recommended 👌

Diner Review №100

Diner Review №101

Affordable and palatable Thai food.😊
The Fried rice with Pork and pineapple Fried rice is my best😍

Diner Review №102

Absolutely delicious and 10/10 all around. The customer service was excellent and upon arrival, we were greeted and seated immediately with a smile. The food was flavorful and had am amazing aroma. The menu had a wide variety of options from vegetarian options, protein options, noodle options, appetizers, entrees, drinks / beverages, and desserts. The servers were attentive and presented quick service. The restaurant was spacious and was very cleanly. I ordered the Kee Mao J ( one of the vegetarian options) and my friend ordered the Drunken Noodles with Chicken. Both entrees were full of flavor, spices, and the perfect vegetable to noodle to protein ratio. For dessert, we ordered the Sweet Sticky Rice with Coconut Cream and Mango. It was creamy and the perfect size for sharing. The mangos were so fresh. Everything was BEYOND exceptional and above my expectations. Hands down one of the best Thai restaurants I have been to. I will definitely be coming here again in the near future. I have attached pictures of the food below.

Diner Review №103

Food was not as described. Picture on the menu showed my pineapple chicken served in a half pineapple....when it came to the table, it was served on a plate with chunks of pineapple in it. Wasn't informed that they were out of the actual pineapple but tired to be sassy and serve my drink in a glass shaped like a pineapple....I wasn't amused.

Diner Review №104

Diner Review №105

Diner Review №106

The service was attentive and pleasant. The food was good and portion size was more than adequate. My papaya salad had fresh ingredients. Happy hour ran late here and the wine and beer was all reasonably priced. I would have liked more heat in my food. Also, i missed seeing tile fish on the menu in appetizers.

Diner Review №107

used to be my to go place! I spent years going all the way to Arlington for good Thai until I found Sala Thai in Bethesda. Not anymore, I will go back when they confirm they switch chef again or go back to the old ways.
The last few times they have either messed up on my order or the food is just not good at all. The coconut soup was flavorless, when I say flavorless I mean it taste like water and dry chicken. The pad Thai was also with chewy flavorless chicken. It happened more than once so you can't say it was the one day only. I hope they change things back again. They also took out the sticky rice which I enjoyed very much on the side.

Diner Review №108

Great seafood in a great location of Bethesda.

Diner Review №109

Diner Review №110

Loved every bite

Diner Review №111

This place wasn't as expensive as some of the Thai places around the area so thats definitely a plus. Finding free parking can be a challenge on occasion. Server was polite and filled empty glass without being asked. Honestly the Portions were just not that big and the Food was mediocre. It wasn't Bad Just not anything to write/rave about. If the portions were bigger I'd give this place a 4 instead of 3 because these days just Finding a place with decent food at an acceptable price is hard!

The food was good. Good ambience and lot of sitting space.
Being in the downtown, parking is not easy.

Diner Review №118

I love pad Thai and this happened to be the closest Thai restaurant near my apartment. Ordered a pad Thai today, it looks like some leftover. There was no fresh bean sprouts, no peanuts, just some smashed noodles and half slice of lime on top. Really disappointed. I still ate it since I was hungry and paid $15 for it. Would not order from here again.

Diner Review №119

Great place with good food and fair prices 🌸

Diner Review №120

Absolutely excellent! Their pumpkin curry is fantastic. Also garden rolls and Tom kha soup. Fresh ingredients and excellent service. Will be back!

Diner Review №125

They have a good selection of food and it is pretty reasonable. The service could be better, though; our water glasses were always empty when we needed them to get more drink orders fulfilled which made me feel like they didn’t care enough about their customers' satisfaction with them as far as keeping up appearances go (especially since this isn't something easy either). Even after asking for additional cups multiple times during ordering process- no worries! We got what we wanted without waiting around forever or feeling bad about making others wait because there weren

Diner Review №126

Nice variety of Thai cuisine. Attentive staff. Party of six and all food was tasty. On-street parking is a pain, but that's Bethesda!

Diner Review №127

Great flavor, hot soup and overall yummy food! Highly recommended

Diner Review №128

Best Thai food that I have ever had. Such an amazing delight.
I ordered the tom yum soup - which was absolutely mind-blowing! I could not believe the taste, my oh my!
Then the spicy fried rice -- it was just the right measure of spice and goodness. definitely spreading the word. The very best Thai food that I have ever had!

Diner Review №129

Good food enjoyed the views and service

Diner Review №130

Excellent.

Diner Review №131

Went to Sala Thai yesterday with my “Thai Snob” husband. His first time, my 2nd or 3rd. The service was great!! We ordered Spring Rolls, Pinkies, and both got the Spicy Thai Rice. All were exceptional. I knew that he was enjoying it when he took the first few bites and didn’t start looking for soy sauce. Perfectly prepared, super fresh, well seasoned, and beautifully presented. Hubby even said that he’ll be stopping in whenever he’s on that side of town.

Diner Review №132

Had some of their shrimp dishes and the SalaThai Siam. All fantastic quality and taste. Highly recommend especially if you like spicy thai.

Diner Review №136

Diner Review №137

Good food and reasonable portion. However they can improve their service. Our water was totally empty and we have to ask to get more water for our drink. The waitress never bothered to come back or check on us after she served the food. Hence 4 stars instead 5 stars.

Diner Review №138

Diner Review №139

Great food, a bit expensive, but that’s Bethesda for you.

Diner Review №140

Diner Review №141

Lunch specials are legit .. food is solid and they totally nailed the spice on my pad Thai

Diner Review №142

Over cooked pad thai noodles all broken up and kapow chicken was nasty. Sliced not ground that i asked for. We were sorry we got food delivered abd it only took a few minutes wish we never went. Wont go back.

Diner Review №143

Diner Review №144

Absolutely love this place. Authentic Thai food.
I get the Drunken Noodles w/ chicken EVERY time. They make it "Thai spicey" for me, and the dish becomes delicious agony.

Diner Review №145

1st time ordered Panang Sea Food was generous portion, ingredients and flavorful,
I have mentioned that I am ordering 1st time may be that also helped hopefully it will remain consistently good! ThankU!

Diner Review №146

We live 8 minutes from this restaurant by car. We placed an order with 3 items in it (nothing crazy) and it took over 90 MINUTES TO DELIVER. They also require you to tip in advance if you order online and pay by credit card. Just horrendous service and I don't throw that term around lightly.

Restaurant didn't care at all when we called 4 times past the 90 minute mark to tell them that we still had no food and no updates. Terrible way to do business. Once our order finally showed up, one of our entrees was completely wrong. Really disappointing, I'd look elsewhere if you're hoping for anything approximating good service.

Diner Review №147

Diner Review №148

We went for lunch and the place wasn’t busy at all but the food was excellent and the service was great. I’ll be returning.

Diner Review №149

Diner Review №150

Really enjoy the food from here! I’ve had the panang curry and pad thai several times and have yet to be disappointed. The food is always very flavorful and fresh. Only eaten in the restaurant once, but enjoyed the atmosphere and service. This is a great location if you’re looking for tasty food and a more casual dining environment than a fine-dining experience.

Diner Review №151

Diner Review №152

Diner Review №153

Very tasty Thai food, and made fresh to order. Some very good heat on my generous portion of spicy chicken fried rice, which I finished. The only downfalls were the atmosphere (damp, humid feeling in the restaurant and a smell of stale, damp sulfur) and the Mai Tais had the metallic taste of canned pineapple juice.

Diner Review №154

Food/service: I went soon as they opened, so it was nice and quiet, the food came out in a timely manner.
Inside:The dining are was clean.
It was hot outside and warmer inside, the ladies restroom was closed, the mens was nasty and flooding on the floor.
Parking:I went on a weekday and you have to pay for parking.

Diner Review №155

The green curry was bland beyond belief, maybe it was a fluke or something but it had barely any flavor at all. Management—contact me if you can help. Thanks

Diner Review №156

I ordered food for pick up from here and it was not good. The tempura was soggy and most of the food seemed stale.

Diner Review №157

Delicious food, good selection, and quick and helpful staff!

Diner Review №158

Diner Review №159

Always great, and authentic. They will even do a few things that aren't on the menu. Service is attentive without being overbearing. They also have a large vegetarian menu.

Diner Review №160

Lovee the drunken noodles!

Diner Review №161

Great food. Great great.

Diner Review №162

Great food with friendly customer service! Definitely try their Pad See Ew, you won't be disappointed :)

Diner Review №163

I order from here occasionally - the food is good/fine but I have other Thai places that I prefer - I am sad that they don't have curry puffs here. I like the Pad Thai but something about it is different than other places, I don't know if that is less "authentic" or more, either way I enjoy eating it but prefer other places. Next time I will try the Penang Curry or Drunken Noodles and see how those compare to my favorites!

Delicious Thai food. Although I usually just get the Pad Thai.

Diner Review №170

Very good place. A bit too much sugar

Diner Review №171

Cold when delivered, and the food was bland. I'll never order from the place again!

Diner Review №172

Diner Review №173

Don’t be fooled by the sometimes long wait, the food here is simply AMAZING! It’s one of the best Thai places around. My first time coming there, it was a BUSY night and because i ordered a little late, I anticipated a bit of a wait. I returned some minutes later only to antsy patrons waiting impatiently for their orders. Before I continue, i just want to say -don’t be that AHole at any restaurant who orders late and expect your food in less than 10 minutes! People are so annoyingly privileged. Nonetheless, i waited patiently for my food until the moment came and to my surprise, Bosslady put an extra plate of Pad Thai in my order to make up for the wait. Highly unnecessary but greatly appreciated! The dishes were incredible and made to perfection. It almost took me back to Thailand! Thank you all for your hard work during these difficult times!

Diner Review №174

Best thing about this place is the portion size, I always have leftovers. It’s my go-to place when I’m too indecisive about everything else because they’re always consistent so I know I’m going to have a good meal. A Bethesda favorite!
