This is a local establishment run by a friendly bunch of Thai ladies, so you know the food is authentic. Even the donuts, which are the highlight on the menu. And since they open at 0530 in the morning, they also have a good selection of traditional American breakfast fare. Don't let the disposable dinnerware put you off, everything from the kitchen is very good.

For the donuts, I'd give this place 4 stars. They don't have the widest variety, but everything available is fresh and delicious. The donuts rival Shoppers' giant donuts in size, and any toppings or fillings are applied in generous amounts. You definitely need to arrive early, they sell out quick! The Thai food is pretty good and authentic too, but the portion sizes are quite small. That's why I only give them 3 stars.

OMG the donuts here are delicious and so reasonably priced. We frequently stop over on the weekends for a treat. They are always fresh and so so good.

Carlson’s was on top of their game tonight! We used the online order system for pickup. Got Drunken Noodles and Pad Eggplant and both were Wonderful. We like really spicy food, but decided to go with the “spicy” option rather than higher “Thai spicy” and were glad we did. Just plain “spicy” was right up our alley and perfect. Everything was fragrant and delicious. And plenty for leftovers!

Carlson’s is my favorite restaurant in Annapolis. Divey dining room, friendly staff, steady in- and e-gress of mostly takeout customers. Order the drunken noodle with minced pork; the heads know. And at the end they might gift you a day-old donut for being a real one.

The donuts are the best in town! I’ve been going there since I was a kid and love their donuts! The staff are always friendly each time I go there. Also they have a great selection of donuts that are always made fresh everyday. If you’ve never been here or are visiting from out of town I highly recommend going there!

A well-kept secret, unless you already know the history of Thai donut shops. I measure shops by how they make their chocolate-frosted donuts. Their chocolate-frosted yellow cake is the best I know of. I prefer the DD chocolate-frosted to theirs, but try theirs to see if you agree.
Call and ask them when fresh batches will be ready, because they sell out fast.
Service is affected by some employees' limited English-speaking skills.

Texture, taste and toppings are perfect.
Don't buy too many because they will give you free donut holes as a lagniappe (bonus for anyone not from New Orleans) and you will be tempted to eat them. Better to share them with friends or strangers so you can live long enough to return to Carlson's and enjoy these sumptuous donuts year after year.

We used to love coming here… and now the food has taken such a turn to POOR quality. We got one of the salads with beef, and look at the minuscule amount of food they served! 10 pieces of lettuce and a few pieces of beef- for $11 plus tip. If I had opened this in the restaurant before driving home I would’ve not accepted it. We also got a mussamum curry that was mediocre at best. What happened to the amazing thai food this place used to serve?! They also have no email on their website that I could find, so no way to contact. Hope they step their game up, we’re going to move to other thai restaurants in the area for a bit.

Seriously tasty Thai. I had the spring rolls which were light, tasty, and perfectly crispy. Ka Prao chicken was perfectly spicy, and very well made. Great balance of flavors and textures. The donut I grabbed for dessert was nice too! This will be a regular stop for me in the future.

I asked for a Mild Pad Thai, and this dish was so spicy, I was sweating eating it. I couldn’t eat more than 2 bites. Also, the chicken was so tough; it was obviously microwaved chicken. It’s garbage. This place has gone wayyyyy downhill. Don’t waste your money. It used to be good, but no longer. Donuts are still fire.

The food is exceptional! My husband and I just ordered takeout from here. By far some of the best Thai food we’ve ever had. Tasted flavorful, fresh and homemade - can’t say enough about how delicious our meal was.

We have been looking forward to trying Carlson's Thai for a while and finally made it! We were not disappointed! We started with spring rolls and they were hot and flaky. If you are looking for spicy, Pad Ka Prow is an excellent choice. The shrimp in the kao pad noodles were much larger than expected. Definitely can't wait to go back and try more things from the menu!

Best Thai takeout in Annapolis. Everything I have tried has been amazing. The other places in the area are hit and miss and don’t know what spicy is. Carlson’s is always consistently good and they know what thai spicy means.

There is none better in all the land! I have been getting donuts at Carlson’s since the early 80’s and the same people are still running it! Carlson’s is an Annapolis landmark! You can’t beat the Thai food either but the donuts… oh the donuts! Get there early and be sure to grab a ‘chop sui’ or else the experience is not complete!

The thai food is by far our favorite in the area and the donuts are good too (not overly sweet). It would be five stars except that there is only one person working the front (answering calls, getting the food from the back, taking payment and waiting tables when they were open for dine in), which can make it difficult to order and pick up when they're busy. We've had to give up and order elsewhere a few times as a result. If they would add an online ordering process it would make things so much easier for everyone. That said, the food and people are worth it. We'll keep coming back.

It was very difficult to overcome the concept of a donut shop moonlighting as a Thai restaurant. However they offer the best green curry around. And their apple fritter is big, sweet and as apple-y as America desires.

Still the best donuts, original receipe over 70 years. And they are square. Square donuts? Yup!

Carlson’s has the best donuts - homemade, fresh, all the good flavors. And once dinner starts, their Thai food is also great. Soma y options, tastes like the real deal. Plus, every time I’ve sat in for dinner, they’ve given me leftover donuts from that morning (even when they’re a little stale from sitting out, they are so good).

The place may not look like much from the outside, so if that makes you hesitant to give it a chance - just go for it! You won’t regret it.

I love Thai food, my curry duck experience here is ok. I love that the duck was tender. I am not a huge fan of the whole baby tomatoes and snap peas in my curry. I was very dissatisfied with the amount of rice that was given compare to the large portion of curry. The taste was ok, it’s not something I would completely rave about. Good luck through these covid times. The store is kept up well and only allow 3 people in at a time. They have the counter shields, hand sanitizer on the ready, and removed indoor eatting. I typically swing by for donuts in the morning once a year or so. (Get the best claw) But your food is also very good. Only thing I can complain about is the portion size because I eat a lot. :) you can tell from the noodles, eggs, and broccoli that everything has flavor. Thanks.
