Thai eatery serving soups, curries & noodle dishes along with pan-Asian staples in homey environs.
What a great surprise. Doesn't look like much from outside. But very nice inside. The country curry was amazing. Prices are reasonable. Great for an intimate date night
This is going to be a long one, but if you're on the same quest I am, keep reading. Maybe I can save you the time and money. "Chow Mein" is a topic of contention around North America. If you grew up in the Northeast like I did, the standard chow mein is a white goopy slop dish with precooked "fried noodles" that come in a bag and served with steamed white rice. It's the only dish I've had from Chinese restaurants that was actually just bad. In other parts of the country, it's a stir fried style noodle, think a skinnier lo mein with a better selection of vegetables and protein, with a brown sauce.
When I saw Thai Orchid's chow mein, they describe it as "stir-fried egg noodles and vegetables in light gravy sauce." I was delighted to see a place offering something that's at least advertised differently than the previously mentioned "white goop."
For $16 (in 2024), I received a tiny container (maybe a quart? picture included for size comparison) of what looked like some kind of soup. First I tried some of the vegetables floating on top, and the sauce/soup/gravy had a mucilaginous quality to it. It was almost slimy. The way it dripped down off the vegetables into the cup was quite nausea-inducing. It was almost like the consistency of a loogie. I powered through the appearance concerns, and the quality of the food wasn't that bad. The vegetables were fresh and crisp, the noodles were "ok" (they seemed like spaghetti, or the same thickness as lo mein i.e., not as thin as the "good" chow mein). The flavor of the sauce(?) wasn't even that bad either. The pork included was decent enough.
Overall, I wasn't even that disappointed in dish itself. At least they tried to do something other than the white goop. But this was still not the good chow mein that I've been hunting for. If I ever do find a place around here that has it, I'll update this review so those on the same quest as me can have their option. Or likewise, contact me somehow. Maybe write your own review on here!
Overall, the dish I was offered, I would only pay about $5 for. It felt like a glorified soup. Not a great one at that, and I wouldn't even but it again at $5. If I could get a refund, that would at least bring me back to try their other menu items, as I see potential in the other menu options.
In summary: If you want real chow mein, this is not your place. If you want white goop "chow mein," this is also not your place. If you want a different noodle/soup kind of thing, give it a try!
Easily the best Thai I’ve had in recent memory.
We started off with an order of Scallion Pancakes, they were absolutely excellent, crispy, flaky, and the sauce went very well with them. Great flavor!
Then came the Entrées, I had their Emerald Curry with Chicken, and my partner had the Mango Curry with Chicken. Oh. My. Lord. I’ve never had such a flavorful bowl of curry, I ordered it at a spice level of two stars, as did my partner, and, as someone who will literally eat a spoonful of Wasabi and be fine, it was a little too hot for me. Not too hot to eat, the spice just stayed so long that I couldn’t finish it, it’s the type of spice that compounds after multiple bites. I would recommend a one star order if you’re not a spice freak. And yes, the rice is shaped to look like a teddy bear, and I love it.
I also had a Strawberry Bubble Tea, it tasted like strawberry milk with ice - so good - but nothing special.
The atmosphere was very chill and inviting, with laid back music, and welcoming and accommodating waitstaff. Easy five star.
Order for delivery via doordash. The food was better compare to other thai food in Bangor area. I ordered vietnamese pho, the amount of food is so small but expensive. I am okay with the quantity of the meats which is also a little but the noodle need to be more like pad thai. The taste was just okay but still edible. The pad thai was great and the amount of food was superb. The tom yum soup is not really taste like tom yum at all missing the original tom yum flavor. I recommend the restaurant as i think it is still best thai food around bangor area. For better thai food, need to try pom's thai in Portland as it is the best thai food in Maine.
It was ok. The food was a bit too chewy for my taste, but the boba was great! We got some boba to go, but my sister got two pieces of plastic in theirs. Still coming back for boba.
What a great surprise. Doesn't look like much from outside. But very nice inside. The country curry was amazing. Prices are reasonable. Great for an intimate date night
We’ve been over 50 times and have never bad a bad experience. AmazingThai food that never fails to deliver. A+++
Good food and friendly staff

Hands down the best Asian restaurant in Bangor area, the other 2 being Umami and Pho Hoa. Fantastic authentic dishes. Would recommend all the curries!
This is my favorite place to order food from in Orono. Food is great, when I go in person the people are always nice. They’re super fast making your order.

Always fast, always delicious. We love the soft shell 🦀 dishes.
Good selection of Thai food. Excellent table service. Full bar in separate room. We have eaten here several times, and each time the food was prepared perfectly and service was quick.
Overall The food was really good just smaller portions than other Thai places that we have been too. You can choose your level of spicy too. The chicken soup was really fishy so I had to request the second time we went to remove the fish oil but great quality of items. If you like seafood then you may not mind. No Pho on the menu which was a little odd but a great combo of curries and other options.
The chef specialty crispy chicken pad Thai is amazing try the Mai Thai too. Update: been coming here weekly for about a year and it is those most consistent place around, I have never been disappointed here. Highly recommend
Ordered take out. Appetizers were good. Entrees were not. Rice was literal mush, inedible. Very little chicken in the dish and tasteless. Won't be back.
Plain and simple . Absolutely the best Thai food in New England . Simply Perfect . Awesome atmosphere and drinks as well.
Good food and a nice place
The staff were great and the food was so good! Panang Curry was so good!
This was hands down my favorite Thai restaurant in Bangor however they recently reduced there portion sizes now to a point that even after ordering a entree ( pad Thai or rice etc) with appetizers your still left hungry at end.
Amazing food and service! Highly recommend going here if you haven't yet!
Amazing place to eat. Amazing owners, absolutely delicious mango sticky rice.
Very nice people, bar area pleasant to sit in, cocktails and beverage lists are impressive, but our food was average at best. My daughter told me not spend karma on a negative review, so I’ll leave it that we ordered standard stuff pre-show, but if the basics are disappointing, doesn’t inspire a return visit.
Great food and great customer service
I love this place, it is super gluten-free friendly. You can get most of the menu! If you are looking for a nicer dinner out, go there! But takeout in your pajamas is incredible too! Try the thai tea! My favorite is the pad thai!
Flavorful and good. If you get the 5 star spice level, it truly is "thai hot"
Our first experience dining at Thai Orchid and we will definitely be back. Our party of four had a wonderful server in Sophia. She explained the menu and gave suggestions, truly a wonderful young lady. The food was amazing and was very quick to get main course. Can’t wait to return!
Very fast for a pad thaï.
Very delicious! 🤩
The curry that I had was rather bland and definitely was prepared in a safe way for picky eaters. I would have enjoyed more curry paste in the mix and some spice. The service was mediocre at best. Considering the location, it was okay.
Thai Orchid is a long-time favorite of mine! Food is fresh and delicious, service is wonderful, decor is lovely, and the place is clean and welcoming. I dine there as often as possible!
Best Thai food in Orono!!
Eat here a lot. Would be 5 stars if their portions stopped shrinking
Love Thia Orchid! The food is delicious, service is excellent, and a clean restaurant. We usually do take out and they take good care in packaging and bagging the order. We appreciate it so much as we travel 35 minutes (one way) to get the order.
This is our only go to, for fresh authentic Thai food!! Owners, Eddie and Nam are always there and also are the Chefs. The quality of the vegetables, meat, etc, are always fresh!!! We have tried almost everything on the menu and have always left with a smile on our face 😁 don’t forget to have a Mai Thai, Eddie makes the best!! They have very extensive cocktail list of specialty beverages, and wine. You will not be disappointed at this family Thai Restaurant 💕
Great service and ambience!! Quite flavorful.. Little light on quantity..we ordered the mango curry (really good!!) and the Tom kha soup..
Great location.. Plenty of parking..
My spouse and I enjoy Thai food a lot. Recently, we were in Orono on a Monday and decided to try Thai Orchid. We will go back! The food was fresh and delicious. The service was quick and attentive. The dining room was quiet and pleasant.
The first time we ate here it was fantastic. But the last two times have been horrible.
Got a to go order yesterday and the lo mein smelt and tasted burnt. I don't know what they tried to salvage that they burnt in the dish but it was nasty and ruined it. The samosas were gritty and soggy. What a waste of $50. Won't be giving them another chance. Never eating here again.
Outstanding
Delicious food... very good sauces....been there four times... consistently good... not the largest of portions ..but the flavors!!!
Great time there celebrating a birthday!
Really good food. Great service and overall good experience!
Great food, authentic Thai experience, and refreshing drinks. Nice ambience.
Best green curry I've ever had!wifey says the same about the basil fried rice
Great food, however I ordered off their website (DO NOT ORDER FROM THE WEBSITE) and the company they used, called ‘Foodhub’, took my money and did not put my order through. This is not Thai Orchids fault, however when I called them they told me they couldn’t help me and that I would have to reach out to the company myself. If I had purposefully ordered through a third party site maybe I would understand, but I went to the website and ordered through there, and I did not realize it was a third party site. It’s been a week and I have yet to get my refund. As I said, great food, but really disappointed with this mess.
My first time trying Thai Orchid on a friends reccomendation. I order some crab rangoons and chicken drunken noodles. They were both absolutely delish. Love all the flavors and fresh vegetables in my drunken noodles and enjoyed my crab rangoons very much. Absolutely perfect. Will definitely be a repeat customer.
Best Thai food I've had so far. And I've had a lot of Thai food. I get it every chance I get.
Easily the best Thai I’ve had in recent memory.

The atmosphere was very chill and inviting, with laid back music, and welcoming and accommodating waitstaff. Easy five star.
My gf got pad thai which tasted like a dead fish on the beach smells, my stir fry came in a soup container that was half full and soaking in liquid. Instructions were not followed. Crab Rangoon were decent.
Good Thai Food. Best place in Orono for a business lunch. And now bubble tea
So delicious and very friendly.
Good food fast service very nice place to go

Very tasty, good atmosphere, fair helpings, and reasonably priced. I'd go there again, in a heartbeat!
Excellent as always!
Great food!
Not good. Not worth it.
I had the sweet and sour chicken and it was soupy and more sweet than sour. It was fishy too. I understand it was made with fish sauce but it shouldn't have smelled fishy.
When the waitress came to check on us at the table I was honest and said it was not good and that it was soupy and too sweet. She just said sorry and offered more rice. I said that won't save it.
But she didn't care about what I said. She still charged full price and didn't change a thing. I just moved to the area and I really wanted it to be good but it is not. I will definitely never return. Totally not worth $18 a plate.
Great food everytime! Great employees. Good menu selection with all the favorites and something for everyone.
The best pho ever!
Quaint little place and the food was delicious!
Pretty decent. Waitresses are friendly and the inside is very nice. The crab rangoons are a definite must try. As for the pad thai, I got the spiciest they make them. The overall flavor is good, but I've had spicier in the area that's made with ghost peppers (check out my other reviews for where that is).
This is the absolute perfect spot in the Bangor, ME area ... Due to my contract work with FAA, I hunt Thai and Korean cuisine in all 50 states and wherever I can find it. Thai Orchid offers an incredible mix of relaxing environment, kind service, and nearly unrivaled Thai cuisine.
That being said, this is probably number 2 or 3 on a long list of over 100 spots I have experienced over the past 5 years. I do ponder and question just how Orono, ME was blessed with this prize.
I submit to you, attempting a Thai experience at any any other location within 50 miles radius would be a disservice to yourself.
DO NOT PASS THIS UP IF YOU HAPPEN ACROSS THE BANGOR OR ORONO COMMUNITIES
I cannot wait to return when work swings me back into Bangor in the future.
This place doesn't look like much from the outside as it is in a residential house, but the inside is truly beautiful! I ordered delivery from them and the food was superb. I ordered the basil fried rice, scallion pancakes, and some bubble tea. Each item was fantastic! Try this place!
The food was oddly sweet for Thai food. Nothing was bad, nor great. Definitely needed more spice! Tried over a dozen dishes- our favorite was the Samosas! The two young ladies running the front counter/waiting the tables were very professional and friendly.
Great food.
Shoutout to the only authentic Thai restaurant north of Topsham. This place is the best, and one of the top 3 restaurants near bangor. I can't recommend this place enough!
Their appetizers were EXCELLENT, and their entrees were pretty good (9/10). I would definitely go there again, the inside looked so cozy and the people that worked there were very nice.
Boba tea!
Very good, high quality Thai food. Friendly staff
Visiting Orono and was very please with Thai Orchid! Had to come back twice!
Really cosy spot with super friendly staff. Great cocktails as well. I just really wish they made some of the Thai Staple dishes such as curries, veggie friendly. I hope they consider this in the future.
We ate here last night, and loved it! The portions were just right and the food delicious! We'll definitely return.
Great take out. The red curry is very good.
The food is always fresh, hot, great portion sizes. This is true at the beginning, middle or end of week. The only note I make is I've ordered Thai iced coffee twice and got it only once. Got Thai ice teac. Last night I ordered Thai Boba ice tea and got regular Thai Tea. But overall great value and tasty place to eat 😋
Great staff, great food and drink. This place is tucked away and quite quaint for how close it is to everything! A great, quiet environment, perfect for a date.
Pineapple curry was amazing
My all time favorite restaurant in Orono. Delicious curry and great service!!
Great service and great curry.
Great food, great drinks, great service, great all around.
Don't let the unappealing storefront fool you. The restaurant inside is well kept with a full bar and contemporary music. Food is delicious and inexpensive. Calm atmosphere.
Best food ever!!
Very disappointed, went out with family and all had the same and it was the worst tasting, we had been here so many times and it was amazing, not sure what happened but the pad se ew was not good on all of our meals, and when we said something the waitress didn't seem to care.
We have been there three times during the pandemic and they have been the best three meals ever! I went with a friend 1. Excellent friend took his girlfriend 2. Different dishes outstanding I went back with friend 3. Three more dishes for a total of8 different dishes. Clean, friendly, great lighting and ambiance.
I have been around the world and this place is just perfect! My highest rating ever! 5.5 out of 5
Authentic, fresh flavorful. Excellent wait staff.
The food here is amazing! You can taste how fresh and clean the ingredients are. I love the effort in quality of what they are serving. I can't wait to eat here again!
My experience here was very good. The place has a nice ambience and uplifting decorations. The food tasted great and had many Asian flavors that I had found missing in food from some other Thai places. The pricing is not cheap but it is pretty decent. My only dissatisfaction was with the food portions which I felt were small. Apart from this, this place is worth 5 stars. I will be visiting again!
The food is absolutely amazing and the interior is beautiful! Nice atmosphere. The portions are a little small but that is the only critique I have. The staff is very nice and friendly.
I have never left a review for a restaurant before but I really felt like I had to for this one... I paid $20 for a combo meal and the portions I were given were not at allll worth it for what I paid. Not to mention the food was so tasteless and bland. I was very disappointed and unsatisfied with my meal and will never recommend this place to anyone or return there myself.
Excellent food and service.
As someone with extreme anxiety over ordering food, they are VERY welcoming and ease your mind. The atmosphere inside is beautiful and I think I may come back to dine in someday when it's safer. DEFINITELY give these people your patronage!!
Food is great. You can dine in these days, so it was just like old times but much less crowded. I'll likely go back sometime soon, especially for the veggie tempura!
I have never left a review on a restaurant before but I literally felt I had to because the food was so bad. Everything I ordered was tasteless and bland and the only reasonable explanation is that the person cooking my food was a blind child who lacked any and all taste buds necessary to determine what good food tastes like. I would've been even slightly happier if my food had the basic requirements of at least salt and pepper but it even lacked that.
Good food - typical fare. A bit pricey.
Food is amazing and the drinks are even better.
Easily, the best placemat wife and I have ever eaten. The food is magnificent, service is always great and the music fits for a perfect date night!
Really a very nice place. Good food. reasonable cost, and a clean, attractive space. I need to go there more often!
Great food, great environment and friendly staff!!! :)
I’m here on Valentine’s Day. They are very busy. Food is always great. Staff is doing the best they can. As a very annoying man talked to people at the bar, whilst in everyone’s way.
A young women named Sarah was busting her butt. I hope if she isn’t already Management she will be soon.
I’ve Ran Kitchens before, when you are operating at full capacity you can only work as fast as you can and get through it.
Good job team!
Food is bomb
Perfect Thai Iced tea, fried dumplings were spectacular, TomYum soup delicious, and the drunken noodles were appropriately spicy!
My go to thai place in Orono. Decent prices and cheap beer.
Great Curry! Nice atmosphere...courteous employees...exemplary service.
Dilevery time was shorter than the projected window, prices were amazing and they added a small order of Siam rolls complimentary(with smiley face on package and all). Their Pad Thai was light and delicious, not overpowering like most Thai restaurants in this state. Fried dumplings were mouthwatering and as perfect as my Pad Thai. Absolutely surprised and would recommend this restaurant to anyone in Maine who is looking for GOOD Thai food!
I seem to rediscover this place every few years and wonder why I don't go more often.
Ordered a large order. Crab Rangoon was pretty good and stuffed full. The pad Thai noodles tasted funny. They smelled like feta cheese and they didnt taste good at all. The crispy duck paradise was ok. It had a unique flavor but overall nothing special. The chicken wings were terrible. They were way overcooked. Completely unflavored. The sauce they were served with wasnt very good either. The fried squid was ok. Again kinda bland and flavorless and was served with a cup of watered down ketchup. The sweet and sour sauce the crab Rangoon was served with was thin as water and had no flavor that I noticed just sugar water. The fresh spring rolls said 12 per order but it was 2 or maybe 3 rolls cut into 12 pieces. The peanut sauce was again water thin and had floating peanut chunks in it. Total came to 78 dollars. It was not worth it in my opinion and i won't go back again. It was not good food. Customer service was friendly.
I have been going here since this location opened. Since then, I developed a severe obsession with crab rangoons. I tried crab rangoons from all surrounding restaurants and decided this place was the best. However, two weeks ago when I ordered my normal crab rangoons, I got home to find that the crab rangoon filling was in an egg roll wrapper. I thought it was odd, but I have worked in the food industry and know how sometimes stuff just gets messed up. I was unbothered. However, I ordered crab rangoons again today, and opened to find half of the order in egg roll wrappers again, and the other half in wonton wrappers. Again, I thought it odd but I want going to complain. Then I bit into them to find them nearly empty of all filling. I thought maybe it was just one of them, but after opening all of them, I found it was the case with all. The crab rangoon gods are crying.
The kindest, most wonderful people to order from and SUCH great food! I’ve been eating here since 2014 and I’m so impressed :) love you guys!!
I drove from Southwest Harbor to eat this food. No distance is too far for amazing food here. I will return hungry, for more!!!!
Delicious. Many gluten free options. Wonderful menu, prices and service.
What a great place for Thai food. The staff is friendly and the food is excellent
This place is awesome! Atmosphere is very relaxing, fantastic food and drinks. Would recommend a visit. Not your typical Asian restaurant experience.
Always delicious.
Phenomenal. Bar room is beautiful. Waitress was super nice. Food amazing!
Awesome Thai food and great bar selection. Excellent service and pleasant atmosphere
Favorite Thai place! A little expensive, but worth every penny. Their crab rangoons are to die for! Highly recommend!
The panang curry was absolutely delicious. Definitely in my top two I've had in the US.
Very overpriced. Especially for delivering. Proportions are too small to price.
Dumplings are extremely dry and the contents within the dumplings are unspecified (I believe it's actually chicken). Noodle dish has a very odd smell and it is quite bland. Presentation and atmosphere was great but the food is severely lacking.
Good food. Nice atmosphere. Price is high, but reasonable. I left satisfied, not hungry. Canned beer. Nothing on tap
Food looked great. But overall, I didn't enjoy the food at all. The place looked nice but also smelled very odd. I wont be going there again.
The Emerald Green Curry is delicious! The food is always fresh!
The three star review is due to the duck dish. I understand that duck is an expensive poultry, but when me and my boyfriend ordered it we were astonished by the amount of duck meat that we actually got. The menu for all duck items says "Half crispy duck," so when he got home with the order (we got take out), I called them up for clarification on if they meant that it was half of a duck, or half of the dish was made up of duck (It was less than half of the dish as well). The waitress who answered asked for me, and told me that it was half of a duck, so I told her that there was no way that the amount of duck that we got was half of a duck. I was put on with the chef, and since he had just made the meal he knew which customer I was, and told me that the portion that I got was the portion of duck meat that those dishes were served with. I was offered to exchange it or return it for a refund, but we decided not to take the drive back. The amount of meat that we got looked to be less than half of a pound, and while it was fairly tasty, it was:
a) not good enough to be priced at $20
b) Not enough meat to be priced at $20, especially since an entire, good sized duck can be bought for $14-20, not whole sale.
c) Definitely not half a duck in way, shape, or form
Good crab Rangoon's tho, worlds better than China Town Rangoon
EDIT: The new one star review is for because we have since moved to Quincy, Ma, a city known for its vibrant Asian community. For $9.95, we can get a fried duck rice dish that contains at LEAST twice the amount of duck that Thai Orchid offers in their dish, if not more. It is a complete rip off and not worth your money in any way, shape, or form. Even if duck may be more expensive in Maine, it is not THAT more expensive.
