We got to check out Baan Thai - Sala Thai in Downtown Covington. It was super delicious and the staff was great!

Diner Review №2

This is a family restaurant well maintained. The owner is so nice and the food is just like you fly to Thailand..

Diner Review №3

So delicious! I’ve been craving good Thai food and this place hit the spot. It was wonderful! My 12yo daughter and I had lunch there & we both keep talking about how great it was. The staff were so kind too!

Diner Review №4

This small place is a gem. Some of the best Thai food in the area and very friendly staff. 100% recommended if you are in Covington. They make their food less spicy, but everything can be adjusted.

Diner Review №5

We had an amazing dinner. The food is made fresh and tasted so authentic. We loved the service and owners. The restaurant is clean and very well priced. All fresh ingredients & made to order. We were so satisfied. We will be back. It’s the best food in Covington for Thai food. I want to give it 10 stars.

First time eating Thai Food, Won't be last!! Very Good

Diner Review №8

Food is quite good, and reasonably priced. They will spice it as hot as you can stand, if you so wish.

Food was delicious and staff was friendly and courteous! Would definitely go back again.

Diner Review №11

Ate there first time today.
Being a vegan, I truly enjoy the meal, pad won sen (no egg, add tofu).
I will be back.

Diner Review №12

Good lil place for Thai. Sweet couple that run the place.

Diner Review №13

Great food and service!

Diner Review №14

Best Thai food on the North Shore! They have consistently served delicious food for years! Pad Thai with crispy duck was awesome tonight.

Diner Review №15

Diner Review №16

I really wanted to try the Tofu Pad Thai but it's made with egg, and I'm vegan. When I went to order something else the lady offered for the kitchen to make it with oil instead of egg and it was out of this world delicious!!! Thank you for being so accommodating, I would give more than 5 stars if I could. Can't wait to return and will be telling everyone about what a wonderful restaurant this is!

Diner Review №17

I’ve traveled far and wide for good Thai food but this is by far the best one I have tried yet. From the presentation to their excellent customer service, they provide truly food as medicine. Family owned and operated. Clean I consider this a five star experience because of the work ethic and presentation. Also they make you feel like family. By far my new lunch spot for life.

Diner Review №18

I love their pad Thai and dumplings. I also like their bacon wrapped shrimp.
I have tried a few other dishes but think their dumplings and pad Thai are the best so far.

The restaurant atmospheric is not so fancy, but the staff is very kind. They can become busy at times, and have a small family staff, so be aware if you are short on time.

Delicious and authentic Thai food. Ordered the pad thai with chicken and the Chiang Mai noodles with beef. Both were very flavorful and had the perfect amount of spice.

Diner Review №22

A hidden gem in Covington
Everything is delicious!

Diner Review №23

The food was good, the service was fast and attentive. The restaurant is simple but enjoyable.

Diner Review №24

A group of friends and I went last night and it was fantastic! (Note: they asked for us to call ahead next time we have a large group--there were ten of us.) We had a variety of food--appetizers, curry, noodles--and all of it was delicious. All of our dishes came out piping hot, too. We all agreed that we would definitely go again!

Diner Review №25

Every time I come here I feel so welcomed and the food is just AMAZING AND AUTHENTIC! I travel from Hammond to come get this fantastic cooking!!! Mrs. Jem the owner comes out to talk with everyone after she is finished cooking. I feel like I have known her forever because of her friendliness. She remembers me every time that I come in ☺️. If you want authentic Thai food and friendly service you have got to come try Mrs Jems cooking☺️ YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT 😋

Diner Review №26

Husband and I stopped here for date night on a Wednesday. What a hidden gem in Covington. We were warmly greeted when we walked in, and that friendly, welcoming service continued for the entire meal. We started with steamed dumplings and were offered "something spicy" to add on. We asked for some chili oil and the combination of the thin wrapper, juicy, luscious pork, soy, and crispy chili oil was magic. I ordered pad Thai and they were more than happy to adjust the spice level for me. The pad Thai was a little sweet, but contained beautiful large chunks of green onion and a really nice spice that built as I ate. My husband got red curry and when I say that I wish I had ordered a curry after tasting this dish. It was simply the most divine red curry I ever tasted. Beautifully creamy, with flavors of coconut, lemongrass, and Thai basil...we will be back just to try the rest of the curries. We finished with the perfect mango sticky rice, and a cute melon candy with our bill. This was worth every cent we spent, and my only regret is that I live in Slidell, so I won't be able to get take out as often as I would like. Highly recommend!

Some of the best Thai my wife and I have ever had. The food came out super fast. The lady who waited on us was so sweet. There’s a reason this is the #1 Thai place. We got the steamed dumplings, Tom Yum soup, pad Thai, and curry noodles. If you haven’t tried the soup, please do

Diner Review №31

Our favorite Thai restaurant on the northshore! The dishes are authentic and we love that it is family owned and operated. We typically opt for the chicken pad thai and the pineapple fried rice.

Diner Review №32

Diner Review №33

Our first time here today! Found this place on Google. First of all the service was great! We felt "at home" while dining here. The server was really nice and accommodating, she always check on us if we're doing fine and if we need anything.

We ordered Chicken Massaman Curry and it was great, it came with jasmine rice. Papaya Salad was great too, you can choose the spice level for it as well. Pad Thai was great. Our son enjoyed the Chicken satay with the plain noodles. Thai tea's sweetness was just right and it was refreshing. Mango sticky rice for dessert was just perfect!

After our meal the cook came to our table and conversed with us, really great people and food is highly recommend! Will surely come back soon!

Diner Review №34

Best Thai food I've ever had.

Best Thai food I think I may ever have.

Diner Review №35

Diner Review №36

Diner Review №37

Owner/waitress above and beyond! The food is to die for. Everything is fresh and cooked to perfection. The Tom kha and soft spring rolls were the best we've ever had! Good prices

Diner Review №38

Great food and service, highly recommended. Ambience is nice, similar to other restaurants in the area.

Diner Review №39

The Green Curry was spicy, just like I like it🤤🔥

Diner Review №40

Excellent food and service

Diner Review №41

Best Thai my husband and I have ever had and we eat Thai everywhere we go! This place is a must. The Duck dishes are unbelievable

Diner Review №42

Great food! The kitchen can make pretty much anything vegan!

Diner Review №43

Wonderful service and great food!

Diner Review №44

We asked for separate checks, and there were 3 of us. They said no problem. They gave us one check. It went downhill from there.

Diner Review №45

I enjoyed the food, and the portion for the lunch menu was perfect.

Diner Review №46

Really great food here. Amazing prices for the portions and a friendly staff.

Diner Review №47

This is by far the very best Thai food I have eaten! Very, very authentic and generous proportions. Service is great . They really care about their food, presentation and customer satisfaction! If you enjoy authentic Thai food you can not go wrong here! The Larb is my favorite, but other dishes are excellent too. And the prices are comparable to every other restaurant in town. LOVE this place and I highly recommend!

Diner Review №48

Loved it

Diner Review №49

We had the beef salad which was delicious but a little spicy. The ginger stir fry which was awesome. And the pad thai that I always have a hard time finding a good one and this one was great. We were on our way to a different restaurant and it was closed so we googled this one. I was a little underwhelmed because the setting is humble but the food was excellent and will be coming more often.

Diner Review №50

Not good. No flavor. Noodles were mushy beef was extremely dry. Calimari was way too big and couldn’t be chewed.

Diner Review №51

Staff and Owner were Extremely friendly and Food was amazing.

Diner Review №58

This place was wonderful and the server she was amazing!!!

Diner Review №59

Old location was better, had 5tables and they were swamped. Food was ok but have had better Thai.

Diner Review №60

I've been eating at Baan Thai for a long time and really didn't want to write a negative review because I have always loved it very much. The owner is wonderful and kind, and the food was always delicious, fresh and hot...but the quality and atmosphere of the restaurant has just gone down so much. Baan used to be located in a charming little building in downtown, a renovated old house made into a cute restaurant space. There was an amazing buffet with a wide selection of foods and the restaurant was always busy.

Unfortunately, Baan moved to a new location awhile back. The new space is considerably less charming, in a very plain strip building that seems otherwise unoccupied. Signage is so sparse I could not find the restaurant for months. When we finally did find it, we ordered to go for pickup, and the experience was very lacking, with food being less flavorful than it used to be and service very slow.

Recently I gave the new space another try for lunch and at 11:30, my companion and I were the only two people inside. It was completely empty. The buffet has been removed, and a lot of the foods that were on it are no longer on the menu. I am low carb/keto, so I wasn't able to build a fulfilling meal for myself without more options. The drink machine was broken, so there were limited drink options as well. While service we received was very good and I wish only good things for the people and business here, we both agreed that unfortunately it was probably our last trip here unless things improved considerably.

I am sure that Covid and other factors have influenced some of the deterioration, but I really hope the owner can seek some professional restaurant advice that can bring this beloved Covington gem back to its former glory. The food and atmosphere here was wonderful once, and it can be again.

Diner Review №61

best server. very nice

Diner Review №62

Got takeout last night. Ordered the cashew dish. The sauce was like soup. There was not ONE cashew in the whole dish. Menu said this dish is slightly spicy, there was zero spice to this dish. No wonder I was the only one in the restaurant when I walked in at dinner time.

Diner Review №63

Diner Review №64

Gave it all 1 star because there wasn't anything lower.

Diner Review №65

Absolutely delicious! Loved the spring rolls, pad thai, fried rice, and, of course, Thai tea!

Diner Review №66

So good!

Diner Review №67

Wonderful food, awesome chef, and friendly staff! I always come out happy.

Diner Review №68

Curry was runny, wouldn't let us substitute fried rice for white. Had a bad experience the last few times with them. A/c was broke, cannot get spices consistent, over cooked chicken was gross etc. The employees are rude and act like they are doing you a big favor when you come in there. Try to make you look stupid if you ask a question. It's only Becky and the young man that is rude. The older lady is super sweet.

Diner Review №69

Baan Thai no longer has sushi.

Diner Review №70

Diner Review №71

delicious, very consistent. never disappoints! get the pineapple fried rice!

Diner Review №72

Diner Review №73

I'm very disappointed in my experience today. It took nearly 20 minutes to get our drinks to start. And then I ordered two things one which I did not like so I kindly asked if it could be taken off and his response was that it was the only dressing they had which didn't even answer my question. So I had to pay 6 dollars for a salad I didn't eat. I won't be back.

Diner Review №74

Food was very good, only reason I can't give 5 stars is because I absolutely cannot stand eating in dead silence. Some ambient background music would be great. It's so quiet in there im afraid to talk because even a whisper would be too loud. I'm scared if I order something too crunchy the people across the whole room could hear me eating. Lol. I can't stand hearing myself chew, much less anyone else hearing me chew. Please get a little Bluetooth speaker in there or something. Otherwise food is delicious 😋

Diner Review №75

Diner Review №76

On a recent Sunday evening around 6pm our party of 8 each ordered a different dish and we were all very pleased with the dishes. Four of us are vegetarian and ordered tofu dishes; the others ordered pork or chicken. My husband and I live in the Atlanta and have eaten at several Thai restaurants there but we agreed these were the best Thai dishes we've eaten in many years. Highly recommended.

Diner Review №77

Amazing food, sweet owner! The toast was delicious! The yellow curry and the noodles (forgot the name) were delicious. The noodles were the stir fried flat rice noodles with veggies. Delicious! Our new Thai spot

Diner Review №78

By far one of the best restaurants in town! Friendly staff and very hard working. The food is also one of a kind, I’ve never tasted something so authentic as theirs.

Diner Review №79

The best pad thai and drunken noodles!!

Diner Review №80

Diner Review №81

Used to be a great place years ago. I don’t know what they changed but the pad Thai was horrible.

Diner Review №82

We came here for lunch. We ordered the fried spring rolls and soft spring rolls with tofu for appetizers. The fried rolls came with a sweet/spicy sauce and the soft rolls came with a peanut sauce as well as a sweet sauce. Both appetizers were good.

For entrees, we had yellow curry, drunken noodle, and ginger/veggie tofu. The former two dishes were enjoyable, however the ginger dish was 10/10 great! I got it medium spicy, which was actually pretty spicy, but not absurdly so.

Overall, the food was great. The flavors were right on target, and the food seemed freshly prepared. The restaurant is pretty low-key, so you might pass it without noticing. Give it a try!

Diner Review №83

Ordered take out, pad Thai was super bland (which I don’t know how a Thai place messes that up). It’s honestly just laziness, I’m sure they have gallons of pad Thai sauce, so just put some on. And for the few minutes I spent in the establishment, the experience was far from pleasant. Just speak with respect. Period. When I ask for chicken AND fried tofu don’t argue just do it. spring rolls and soup were pretty good. After reading more reviews it’s seems pretty clear that if they want any type of business the younger lady with glasses needs to fix her attitude.

Diner Review №84

Food makes up for the service. The older lady there who I believe is the owner is super sweet though it seems she usually works in the back and serves occasionally. Whoever the waitress with glasses is will most likely always be the one serving you and will ruin your dining experience with her nasty attitude. It’s not hard to miss, even the table in front of us was taken back by how disrespectful she talks while simply taking orders. She was also insane enough to tell me she wouldn’t make a Thai tea for me after making one for my friend because she was done making tea for the day. She mentioned this at 1 in the afternoon… She also mentioned that the tea my friend was served was leftover from last night’s tea…. This was my last straw with this place. I always tried to give it a chance and thought I was catching the service at a bad time. But no, your experience will always be uncomfortable at Baan Thai.

Diner Review №85

Good Tom Kha, good hot and sour, good spring rolls.. will definitely come back for our other favs

Diner Review №86

Diner Review №87

I had to wait awhile but, it was lunch time so I understand but, it was worth the wait. My glass noodle salad was fabulous.

Diner Review №88

My new favorite!

Diner Review №89

I have been here several times and the food is great, but the last time was a really bad experience. The restaurant was freezing cold, and I don't just mean a cool 60 or so, it was so cold that all of the staff was wearing heavy coats or hoodies. It was below 50 outside and it actually felt like it could have been warmer outside than inside. I took a friend for his first visit and he had a question about one of the dishes, and it turned very combative and my friend will not be going back again. 5 stars for food, -3 stars for the experience last visit.

We were there for the first time. It took 30 minutes got our 2 lunch plates to come out. I ordered a lunch if glass noodles. I paid for chicken and shrimp yo be added. For a fact, two, 2, count them, TWO shrimp were in the noodles. I know this because, I had to peel the tails off and I used the spicy sauce dish to put the tails in. Two. It takes a long time. 1 of us was on our lunch break. We did like the food. We do know it was fresh. There was a single table with one couple. They had their order in first. When we came in. A table if six st. Scholastica school girls came in and sat and ordered. That order over took the kitchen. Maybe at 11:25 is not a good time if they have school kids eating lunch during the week. We thank the nice ladies running the kitchen.

Diner Review №93

The food is always so good... Every time!! And there's so many dishes to try. My favorite dining out location!!
I could just move in!!!

Diner Review №94

Very bad service!!

Diner Review №95

This is solely a review on the food but not people or customer service. The Thai food is NOT authentic at all, it is very americanized.

Diner Review №96

Diner Review №99

Diner Review №100

We have always loved this place until tonight and we were loyal customers. We won’t be back. Got take out pad won sen because its not supposed to have bell peppers. Got home and it’s loaded with bell peppers. There solution was to bring it back. I’m not driving another hour round trip to bring food back. I told them I was coming back later in the week and they could make it right then. They told me to bring the food back with me! WHAT? Keep the food for 6-7 days to prove to them I didn’t eat it? No thanks. If they can’t make it right when they admitted they made it incorrectly and basically called me a liar then they don’t deserve my business. Sad.

Diner Review №101

Walked in to hostess station, no hostess. When the hostess came out there was no friendly greeting. Pointed us to a table that had rice particles on the table and appearedto have not been wiped down.
We sat down and looked over the menu as this was our first time there. When I asked about a possible off menu item, ( which I have gotten at ever sushi restaurant ive ever been to ) a lettuce roll, I was simply told they don't do those without the hostess consulting with the sushi chef. When I asked what comes inside the cucumber roll I was told "what does the menu say?". All the menu said was cucumber and seaseme seeds. ( not sure how that is a roll????)
The rolls IMHO are small for the prices. Three rolls were $35.00. I will say the rolls were delicious which will be the only positive thing about this experience.
NOTE: I observed a gentleman walk in, ask if he could sit at a 4 or 6 top. Hostess told him no.
Just in the area we were seated was us at one table and another gentleman at another table. I counted 25 open chairs at the point this guest walked in. The guest walked out. We ordered, ate, paid for our lunch and was leaving before the next family walked in. That guest surely could have been seated at whichever table and it would not have interfered with anything.

Diner Review №108

Diner Review №109

I don't have enough words to express how great the food it's at the restaurant! We were driving back from orange beach and looking for a place to stop and have lunch, even tho is not close to the freeway I'm so happy we took the time to drive to this restaurant! The owner is so kind and very helpful. There were 9 of us and a baby and our food came fast and our drinks got refilled quickly. Everyone ordered something different and we all ended up sharing from each other's plate because everything was so good! This place will be a favorite from now on! Give them a try you will not regret it ☺️

Diner Review №110

Good food, poor customer service. Was just told I cannot order the same meal I’ve been ordering almost weekly for the past three months because they were “too busy.” When I asked what he meant he said basically they can’t make my dish because the shrimp they use they need for other dishes and they don’t have enough. So you’re saying I can’t get my meal because you want to save it for other people? When I asked to speak with someone else he said she is standing right here and listening. They have lost a customer. First bad experience I’ve had in the city of Covington.

Diner Review №111

Baan Thai has moved from their old location to down the street at 501 N Theard St! Their quality has not changed, though. If you want some delicious authentic Thai food in Covington — this is your place! It is a family run establishment with the sweetest owner. Definitely stop by this hidden gem. Delicious restaurant in heart of old Covington. Great service. We felt very comfortable.

Diner Review №142

I loved my dinning experience at Baan Thai of Covington. The waitress received us with a smile. They let us seat outside on the porch. The green veggie curry was amazing!! The Tom Yum soup was the best I've had. The shrimp were tender cooked just right and huge. The purple onions were fresh. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for delicious Thai food at a great price.

The lunch buffet is always delicious. By far my favorite buffet on the Northshore. The staff is very friendly and I love how the owner walks around checking on patrons while they eat.

I was getting over a cold once when I went in and she heard that I had lost my voice and brought me a mug full of hot ginger tea and honey. It was very soothing and the epitome of the extra mile they go at Baan Thai.

Diner Review №172

Absolutely delicious!

Diner Review №173

Diner Review №174

Ordered thai fried rice, light spring rolls, and rad nah for delivery from GrubHub. Food was bland and visually unappealing. The spring rolls were nothing more than cabbage and bits of tofu; no shrimp, basil, or carrots. The thai rice has one piece of basil, and so much soy it tasted like the buffet fried rice- not an ounce of thai flavor. The rad nah was more sauce, little meat, and 5 pieces of veggie. The noodles were separate, thankfully, but the flavor was horrendously pungent . I am severely disappointed and the $47 I spent just adds to this culinary insult. Avoid this place at all cost, it is nothing like it was when it first opened . I did reach out to the restaurant, was hung up on twice and then no answer.

Cozy little restaurant, careful or you might miss it. Fine Thai food, took my better half there for her first taste of Thai. She absolutely loved it. The owner/chef came out to discuss the ingredients used to make the different types of curries. Unfortunately we didn't make it in time for the lunch buffet, which features a different main curry each day of the week. Highly recommended.
