- Tom Yum: it has perfect balance of tangy and spicy.
- The Pad Gang Daeng (fried fish in eggplant curry) and crab fried rice: Very good choices.
- The portion sizes were generous. So, the dishes great for sharing.
- The staff were attentive and friendly.
- Highly recommended for authentic Thai food.
Wow. Excellent! WARNING! Their spice levels are no joke. Repeat NO JOKE!
Generous portions. You will have food for the next day. The water here tastes so good. It doesn't have a weird after taste. This palce is colorful, exquisite, high quality, happy, different, fresh, comfortable, clean, and surpases all expectations. It is a ten out of ten.
We wish Chalmette had more places with rich culture such as this one.
Well, I gave ST a 5 star…food is hot and even a 2 on their spice level is hotter than anything in the US. So if you ain’t Nigerian or Thai, stay below 2 star. 5 star? Your bum won’t thank you the next day.
Food: tried the fried rice, spicy egg plant basil dish, curry, Tom Yum, and pad Thai. Three of the five dishes were 5 star and two were 4 star. At $15 a plate, it sounds expensive but the volume and quality of food, it’s great. You can make 2 meals out of one dish.
The crab Rangoon and egg roll, 4 star.
Overall, solid place. Value is 5 star. Location? I don’t drive here much so won’t be back but if you live here, it’s worth it.
The best Thai restaurant that we have found. We literally drive from Ocean Springs, MS to eat here and it never fails us. All the ingredients are always so fresh. Food has such a great flavor but make sure you look up the spice chart. It doesn’t compare to other Thai restaurants. The portions are such a great size and could easily share. Highly recommend you give this place a try!
Ginormous portions! Excellent value and everything tasted great, perfectly seasoned. Best veggie egg rolls we’ve ever had. We also enjoyed the green papaya salad, tom khar soup, drunken noodles and basil fried rice. Friendly service and it was so cutely decorated. A bit far from us but definitely worth the drive.
Seriously such a delicious spot! Stumbled upon this place while visiting my grandma. We got the spicy cashew stir fry with pork and the spicy eggplant basil. I got the 2/5 spiciness and honestly probably could have gone for 3, but I like spicy food and regularly eat it. Portions are HUGE so great value for amount of food given. I hope to come to this place more often!
Delicious food, friendly staff, generous portions! Believe their spice scale - just a 1 is hot!
Secret Thai has poor customer service skills. The randomly close during scheduled business hours or open late. When trying to call in the order most times they answer and hang up on your face.
Huge portions!
I'm just passing through Chalmette for a few days, figured I'd check this place out because I love Thai restaurants.
The service was very good, very friendly, and attentive, and the way that things were decorated was awesome. It felt like you were having lunch in a garden, but the Japanese waving cats didn't really make sense in a Thai restaurant.
So those are the good things, the food, on the other hand, was not great. It wasn't really terrible, but it's definitely not among the best Thai restaurants I've been to.
Delicious Thai. But mind the spice warnings.
The portions are large. Share or be prepared for yummy left overs.
Greatest Thai cuisine in the greater New Orleans area. If you love spicy food, this is the number 1 option!
Incredible food; best Thai curry I've ever had. Also very cheap for the amount of food you get. Order in advanced, as it can take a while to get your food.
Clean quiet and fresh food

I waited for an 1 just for my wonton soup. The waiter didn’t even right it down and when I told her how much longer.she said I forgot to tell them to make it. When it was done the waitress dropped it.
Great food and really winning portions, especially for the price. I always enjoy my meal there.
I miss the old Secret Thai. Maybe because of the NYT article, but the food is not what it used to be and the service is terrible. The woman who was helping us was very rude, put all of the food in front of one person for some reason, and kept cutting us off when speaking. The Thai iced tea is all milk and way too much sugar, it needed to be watered down. Not worth the trip into Chalmette.
Eat here a lot, usually just get the pad Thai which is amazing but had some random man suggest the orange chicken and decided to switch it up, genuinely the best orange chicken I’ve ever had in my life, idk how they do it because it’s still fried but it felt super light and didn’t make my stomach feel terrible the next day
Been coming here for years and love the food. My main issue is that several times they can't seem to open on time. Sign says 11am but like today, we waited and waited to finally leave 35min later, still not open. Workers are waiting in their cars to start cooking. Sad how this place has gone down the pits. Family excited coming from out of town to a disappointment.

After going back for a second time, the rice was still mushy and over cooked. I thought the first time it may been a fluke. My second visit was about 2 months apart. Everything else but the rice was fresh. Not kid friendly.
Best egg-rolls in Louisiana !
It’s my second time here and it was just as delicious as the first time . The portions are huge and I will never complain about leftovers !
best nola thai food, always enough for days. crab rangoons w extra crab, really crab flavor!
First time and last time. We ordered our usual Thai favorites, red chicken curry and beef pad see ew, and when we received the food, it had a weird smell, and the taste was not pleasant. Then I noticed the pad see ew had chunks of fat all over, and it smelled like feet... we never complained at a restaurant, but called the server and she was very kind, and took it back to the kitchen. The curry did not smell, but the taste was not the best. We left with a very bad taste in our mouth (no pun intended)
Can never go wrong here! Been going since I was in early high school years ago, and the only place I leave full with food left! The only complaint is a certain waitress who was kind of indifferent towards me and did not seat me until another couple came and seated them first but then gave me a cold expression and told me to sit anywhere. As a customer who been going for years I felt disappointed in that experience.
Food is amazing
The plates were so greasy and full they leaked on the table and we had to put napkins to protect our clothes. Way too much oil. Maybe being so close to the refinery?
You want to get the most bang for your buck as well as excellent food Secret Thai is what you are looking for. The food is really good and the place isn't so Secret so be aware that pick up orders may take a little longer than normal but it is worth the wait. One thing to know take heed of the warnings on spice level, its real lol.
Absolutely amazing restaurant. Solid food with GINORMOUS portions. I'm a big eater and can NEVER finish a plate here. Highly highly recommend, it's simply the best.
The food is incredible, giving you an option of spice level, beware, if you’re a novice go with the 0.5 level!! The egg rolls are divine! One can quickly develop an insatiable appetite for their Orange Chicken!! The staff is just as delightful as their food! My compliments!!!
I thought the comments on large portions were going to be an exaggeration. Wow, was I wrong. Never seen plates of food this large! Very well prepared and excellent service and atmosphere. A true gem.
Seems to be more of takeout, definitely not a date night place. Food is good, just gave it a 4 star because some of our food choices came as is where spice level was concerned. In other words, server told us no modification on spice level.
Well, I gave ST a 5 star…food is hot and even a 2 on their spice level is hotter than anything in the US. So if you ain’t Nigerian or Thai, stay below 2 star. 5 star? Your bum won’t thank you the next day.

THE ORANGE CHICKEN!!! I hope you are hungry. I normally always finish my meal when I go out to eat. We order the orange chicken every time and it is enough food that my wife, my daughter , and I ate off of one serving TWICE EACH. LOVE THIS PLACE!!!
The food was great and the portions are massive but it's kinda small to dine in and really busy. It has a fun vibrant and casual atmosphere which is really nice but a little claustrophobic. I will definitely get take out again.
Small place great food
The food in my opinion lacked flavor, presentation was not there, honestly it looks like an overwhelming mess!
Good food baby
The 0.5 spice is still extremely spicy lol. The orange chicken is really good
First time here and excited to try based on our neighbors recommendation and the reviews, ordered Ginger Delight(beef), and Pad Thai and the special of Pork Saute. First the Pork saute was delicious, had a coconut cream style coating and the peanut sauce on the side. It was very good, would order this again this is the only reason I'm giving them 2 stars, the place was very clean and well kept. ... BUT, the Ginger Delight beef had overpowering fish sauce taste , truly very strong and the beef was tough. I would not order again. The Pad Thai, also very overpowered with fish sauce, the noodles were gummy, we did not eat it. I have had many pad thai dishes and this was on the bottom rung of poor. Very disappointing experience. The portions were huge as stated in most reviews. Most likely not going back.
It would be 4 or 5 stars if this place would ever be open!!! I’ve come here on their business hours on 5 separate occasions hoping for the best. And it seems they wanna close on any day they please. Absolutely terrible imo. Awful business management. I’m seeing ppl in groups going up to the door and just shaking their heads as I type this. Everyone is in disbelief. Good luck.
Excellent food and service! Spicy and delicious!
Fast and friendly service. Some dessert items on the menu would be nice, though.
Ridiculously big portions!
Man this place is truly a hidden secret , thoroughly enjoyed ,
Really great food and large potions.
Excellent food massive portions and reasonable prices. Be careful ordering past a 1 or 2 on spice level!
What happened? Thai food should be balanced: salty and sweet, hot and sour! The pad thai came out sickly sweet, a one-dimensional toothache. The fish with fried basil and eggplant curry was fried hard and dry, raw basil on top, eggplant soaking in oil underneath. The waiter kept bringing entrees - ours as well as others - without dinner plates. He’d then go and refill water at other tables while we waited on plates and watched our dinner congeal. The “secret” might be that things have gone downhill…
Food was very fresh & delicious. Portions are HUGEEEE! Literally enough to share between 3-4 people. If you’re not a fan of spicy food you can always ask for your food without any spice. I got a level 0.5 for my food (tom kha soup & tofu pad se ew) and that was perfect for me. My husband got his panang curry a 1.5 level & that made my lips burn, but it was the perfect spice level for him. Not sure how anyone can order the level 5 spice unless they can handle the spiciest food known to man lol we also ordered the combination fried rice (delicious) and chicken satay. I have never seen chicken satay with sauce on it like they serve here, but it was very yummy! the thai green tea was also very refreshing.
The food was really good, excellent spice levels, beginners may want to stick to .5 or 1 on the heat level. You also get very large portions, enough for large grown men to easily eat twice off.
Friendly staff and exceptional value for your money.
We've been ordering from Secret Thai for a few years and aside from them being busy or sold out (good for them!) We've never had an issue. Until today. We ordered a bunch of food and asked for the lowest spice possible, due to my mom not really able to handle a lot of spice. What we got made my throat tickle and my nose run. She can't eat any of it. We called and they assured us it was the lowest spice level, which must've changed because I've had 0.5 before and it wasn't this. So now I have $70 worth of food and a lot of it, that's basically going to go to waste. And I have to cook her something to eat. Will have to reconsider ordering next time if this is what 0.5 heat is like.
Really good Pad Thai. Good enough to drive from Covington for it.
Best Thai food in the area. They should change the to “Not So Secret Thai” because everybody has found out about it!
Very good food. Huge portions.
Wow! So good. I got red curry & the spice was perfect (ordered as is). Portions were nice. If I lived in New Orleans I’d be a regular.
The food here is so amazing and you will get so much of it for such a reasonable price! I'm a big guy and each of these entrees is often three full meals for me. The staff have always been accommodating and friendly. Every time I've gone. Order a Thai coffee or a Thai tea with your spicy meal and thank me later!
My husband went last night to try it, he ordered the combination rice and some type of beef plate. It's important to know your spice level, the gentleman told him to do a .5 or a 1 and he ordered a 2. It was way to spicy for him but for me it was perfect, besides that the food is incredible, the portions are huge and it's all so flavourful. I'm not sure which beef plate was ordered but the sauce it's soaked in is delicious and the rice isn't lacking on any meat. I definitely recommend this place and will eat here again
Great food, and service!!!
I ordered a dish with no spice, it was so hot I couldn't taste it, the service felt like they were rushing us out be able to go through as many customers as possible. I will not return here. The egg rolls were soggy from the amount of grease that they were soaked in after being fried.
Portion size is awesome and the food is really good, but there’s really no way to order something that’s not going to burn your intestines on the way down. If the spice scale had a moderate option they would probably do better business. I’m from San Antonio and have a very high spice tolerance, but when I eat here, even when I order a ‘0.5’ or a 0, I feel as though I’m doing myself injury. This place is great and I’m mostly leaving this as a suggestion because I’d love to be physically able to eat here.
Huge portions, flavorful and authentic, but TOO HOT. The number scale is of no help. Our "0.5" out of 5 was blazing spicy hot. I like some spice, but couldn't eat more that a few bites of my Green Chicken Curry. We heard other diners remarking on this also. Next time "0" with hot on the side!
This may arguably be the best Thai restaurant in the whole region. All their ingredients are really really fresh and flavorful. Be careful if you're not a fan of very spicy food, asking for medium spice might be more than what you would want. Place appears to be a little bit understaffed right now and it takes a little longer for things to come out and to get service, but worth the wait.
Loved it! Lots of food. 2 people can share a dish and still have leftovers!
The Best Thai Food I've ever had!!!
Amazing food! Tons of leftovers you could feed an entire family woth each dish! Not to mention it was delicious!
Great place! Good food! Huge portions!! Careful on the spicy level :) it is not your standard Thai restaurant spice levels.
Literally so delicious and the price makes it even better. BE WARNED. That this place is ridiculously spicy. Coming from someone that keeps hot sauce in her purse. 1.5 is for the extra spicy days where I want that bit of pain. 1 is my go to. And I recommend to friends to get .5 or on the side. Fried egg rolls are MASSIVE AND THICK. Chick satay was cooked to perfection. Cashew stir fry is my favorite. Basil stir fry is amazing. The Chiangmai curry is the bomb.
I would say, this place makes some of the best homestyle Thai food I’ve ever had if you cannot handle spice, get it on the side don’t play around anyone who knows Thai chilies knows that they’re spicy. Their food is authentic and delicious. It’s funny how people go and try ethnic foods, of which they know nothing of the culture and call the flavors weird or criticize the way that they prepare food.
Got over my initial disappointment that there was no duck option. Instead, each dish ordered was not only portioned generously, but on point flavors.
I ordered my basic comfort pad thai. Since Panang Duck want an option. Not only was it probably one of the best versions of this dish I've ever had, but there was enough for 8 people... Im not joking.
My husband ordered a small Tom Yum Soup... enough for 6 ppl. Also Yum being the operative word.
He also ordered the Gulf of Siam, the Thai version of a seafood platter. Filled with shrimp, scallops, mussels, calamari, and fish. If you're from Louisiana, and love your sesfood. order this dish. It does not disappoint.
What stands out most is not only did it taste amazing, and healthy, but the seafood was cooked perfectly, along with the veges. Nothing over done.
In fact, I personally am mot a fan of calamari, because its always been too tough and chewy lacking any specific or unique flavor. But these guys managed to prepare it with a texture both firm, yet tender while the thai spices brought out the sea in a very delightful way.
All this in Chalmette, y'all... I don't ever want to hear shade again on this little town. With few exceptions, this really is a food mecca.
Worth the drive. Big portions. This place is undiscovered. Get here and enjoy now. When word gets out, there is going to be a line around the corner.
Food was amazing
Spicy food at its finest! Select your spice 1-5. Try anything on the menu, made fresh to order.
Ghost gate pad Thai is the way to go. Everything on the menu is amazing.
Too much anise. I heard great things about this place and was psyched to try them out mostly because of their heat scale. They had the nuclear option and that’s what I ordered and on heat they did not disappoint. What was a bummer was the overpowering flavor of what I’m guessing is star anise, which has a licoricey, fennel, whiskey type of flavor and it was overpowering - even over the absurd amount of heat I ordered, it was almost all I could taste, and it wasn’t ground into a powder, there were chunks where some bites were just that flavor. The portions are great which was another disappointment as I had to throw half away. Idk if this was a bad batch or how it’s usually made or if there’s an option to omit that flavor, but didn’t leave with the best first impression.
So far so gudddddd! Orange chicken, Drunken noodles, egg rolls. You get alot for your money and it's good. I don't go past #1 for spice. Please try it! You won't be disappointed. 😊
FINALLY!!! A Thai restaurant that makes spicy food when you order spicy food!!! And they give you a lot of food!
Side note: don’t go there when they say they open, give it 30 minutes.
Great restaurant!
Loved the pad Thai and the amount they give you for one meal is enough for two! When I called to order, she suggested 1/2 star and it was perfect. No fortune cookies though-we were a little disappointed, but definitely would return.
Wow! Great food and hospitality! We loved dining here!
Hands down top Thai restaurant in NoLa. The quality of ingredients, freshness & authenticity is superb. Great food takes time, so sit back enjoy a convo. It’s worth the wait. Portions are large and definitely shareable. I frequently eat here (Dine in & take out)
Great food.
Best Thai food in New Orleans. Amazing prices and one order is about 3 days worth of food
The best, most authentic Thai food in New orleans period
The food was pretty good came in large portions but be prepared for a wait
Great thia always busy
🇹🇭Thai Tea. Get it.. you won't regret it. ☕🧋🤎
Expand your palate while you're at it. 🍜🌶️🥕
Excelente comida y servicio
The quanity was absolutely enormous. But..the fried rice had no color or taste, the large shrimp were overcooked (to that mushy texture) and the pork in both rice and soup seemed very low quality, pounded to death and still chewy, like ground pork but held together by some fat. The crab ragoons were good.
Make the drive. It's 110% worth it.
Order less than more on the spice level because you can always add spice. But always amazing quality and large portions. Clean restaurant and restrooms. Service can be a bit slow because they get busy but worth the bit of wait.
We love this place. Sammy and Tori are so personable and professional, they always make us feel right at home, and the food is killer!
Loved the setting of this restaurant as it's very homey. The portion sizes are huge and the spice levels are epic and authentic to the level of Thai hotness 🔥 🔥!
As a Guyanese who is used to consuming hot foods, I opted for level 2 and and it was perfectly seasoned for my taste. I had the Drunken Noodles (Pad Ke Mao) and loved how the greens were crunchy and fresh. My friend got the Pad Thai Noodles at level 3 and they were 🔥 🔥 🔥 and helped to clear any congestion I had. The Thai Iced Tea was huge and oh so good, especially to cool the heat.
Highly recommend this sweet lil spot all the way out in Chalmette. Definitely worth the trip and excellent value for your money. There was plenty left for a to-go box!
Very good Thai food here. You won't regret it. Huge portions! Just make sure you know. How hot? Do you want your dishes??🤟🤣🤯🥳
My favorite. Don't order 1 dish for 1 person. Get 2 dishes for 4 people & you'll still have leftovers. My absolute favorite is the orange chicken. But I haven't had anything bad yet.
This is such an adorable little spot! The food was delicious but be warned, the portions are absolutely MASSIVE, so prepare for leftovers or bring some friends! It would be a great way to affordably feed a group or family! The wait staff was super friendly as well! The food takes some time to come out but it’s well worth the wait
Although the turnaround time for food is quite Long, it's Worth it.
Portions are Big enough for 2-3 people.
The Combo selection gets you a taste of everything.
Authentic Thai restaurant, balanced flavors sweet sour spicy salty. Great value, perfect for sharing. Been coming here for years and honestly they deserve a michelin for taste and consistency
Waited 1 hour and 15 mins for soup they said would take 35 mins. Food is good but make sure you have an hour to wait for it.
A whole lotta food. 💯 delicious 😋
Muito bom
Great food, great prices.
Food is pretty good, very large servings, great prices 👍
St Bernard's best kept secret. The food is delicious, the portions are very generous, and the prices are extremely reasonable. This is a regular stop. If you like Thai food, you really can't do much better.
It would be probably more than a 1 star if they were ever open during their operating hours. Tried to come on 3 separate occasions during normal business hours and not a soul to be found. Tues-Sat 11a-9p if you're lucky, I guess.
Very grateful for their presence. Sure at times the timing can be awful but if that is what is required to have an authentic restaurant with a very family feel, then so be it. They had a ton of staff today so hopefully that bodes well for future timing.
We are better off with Secret Thai in our world.
Outstanding food and service! Highly recommended!
At the risk of spilling the secret, this is hands down my face spot to scoop Thai food in the metro. Portions are ridiculous, interior is luminous, and the flavors brilliant (the soups are so scumptious aroumatic - if you have a cold or sinus prob, come here to get clears out!)). All of the above at a very reasonable price!!
I am always impressed by this restaurant. The food is fantastic.
Excellent portion size to price ratio....go slow with the spice cuz they don't mess around! Food quality is amazing, only negative is the knife cuts on protein and veg cuz it's quite varied.
Friendly staff and great food!
Amazing meal the best Thai food I've just about ever had portions are huge quality is amazing just don't be in a hurry they're a little slow
Food is MASSIVE enough for 3 people the portions are disturbingly large do not underestimate it. GREAT value for your money. The food itself is okay. The spice levels are confusing at best. I love Thai food, however the combinations of flavors are bizarre. Play it safe and stick with the Pad Thai noodles. Call ahead!!! Can’t stress this enough the wait is horrible for dining in. Nearly everyone gets this food to go. I do not recommend dining in, the reasons are numerous. Order to go eat at home and be very cautious how spicy you actually want it.
Killer THAI food...huge portions with crazy flavor AND just how much spice ( heat ) you want...from .05 to 5 ( based by the teaspoon )...we had the a 0 ( no heat ) a .5 ( medium heat ) and the 1 ( 2x medium ) which was plenty...today I got a 1 again and it was almost too hot to eat ( they said the chilies were hotter in this batch ) which I I they told me sooner...my .5 rice was hotter than any 1 level dish I ever had there and my other dish was a 1 which was brutal hot. FROM NOW ON it seems I will need to ask them to let me know how hot the chilies are at that time to properly order....I love the heat but no way I would ever go over a 1 !
This is the best Thai food. It is totally worth the trip. The staff is Supa friendly. The restaurant is clean and inviting. But the Food is so wonderful. You can pick your level of heat. This food can get pretty hot.
This place was great. It is spicy! I had the drunken noodles and orange chicken. What a great 68th birthday this was. Thank you son and family. We are all ready talking about a return visit. The food, service and prices were great. If you haven't been go. I got the .5 hotness and it was hot enough.
Please tell me why I ordered food at 11:15am AND ITS NOW 1:15pm and the food still isn’t ready??? I place a large order here every other week for my staff and I will not be dealing with this nonsense again. You’ve lost a customer. Absolutely ridiculous!
Love the pad woon sen.
MASSIVE portions, very generous amount of food & nice staff. Best place for a pickup order. DO NOT get anything spicier than a 1.
Once they accidentally gave me a 3 spicy when I ordered a 0 and I couldn’t eat it but they gave me a new one. 10/10
Let me start by saying thank you! The food is always hot, the portions are unreal, and the flavors are always amazing. My top Thai restaurant.
COMPLETE CHAOS ON A TUESDAY NIGHT. We ordered one entree and one appetizer at 6:30 pm and were told to pick up in 45 minutes. We sat in the restaurant waiting for our food for another 45 minutes, and finally got it around 8 pm. During this time, they were continuously answering the phone and taking more orders, instead of letting the kitchen catch up. A complete mess of a restaurant that does not need to offer takeout until they can handle a dinner rush. Nice people, good food, but go during a time that they are not busy..... like around 4 pm for dinner.
Great flovous. Fresh. Extremely generous portions. Biggest i gave ever seen. So big that we could no finish the left overs for danner
The best Thai food, ever
My son suggested this restaurant for dinner, to my daughter as well. I was in town visiting. Food was delicious.
I've never had anything bad to say about the food here. I was just a little disappointed with my combination fried rice that I ordered online today. There was a decent amount of meat but only 2 pieces of shrimp. Guess one piece for me and the other for my spouse.
My neighbor introduced me the secret Thai and I've been hooked since. The food is really good like really good and you get huge portions for what you pay it's the best bang for your buck with quality you can get with Thai food. The environment in the restaurant is laid back family vibe the staff is nice and courteous and are very attentive and if you're looking for a great lunch or dinner they can take care of you
Me and wife been eating here about a year now. At least once a week. The food is always consistent, fresh, and taste wonderful. Service is top notch. Thank you for bringing a great establishment to our community.
Consistently the best Thai food I've ever eaten.
