A lineup of Thai soups, curries & stir-fries are served in a low-key space with artwork & curios.
This Thai restaurant serves the best vegetarian food in the city! The owner is incredibly accommodating and will modify dishes to suit your preferences. Everything is utterly delicious, and they can easily adapt menu items to be vegetarian and egg-free they also provide vegan options . Highly recommend the spring rolls, vegetable dumplings, and Spicy Basil fried rice, Green Curry with Rice - all standout dishes!
I’ve tried a few dishes here. The pad Thai is good. However I do NOT recommend the fried rice though. It’s very bland. I ordered the spicy basil fried rice and got it the spiciest you can get, and it tasted like nothing. Pretty flavorless (unless you count the flavor of vegetables). Very disappointed. Ended up just throwing it away. When I order spicy food, I kind of expect it to actually have flavor and be spicy. If you like flavorful, spicy Thai food, Thai Pepper is THE BEST place!! If you like plain Thai food and just need a quick fix, this place isn’t the worst though.
Tip for the cooks: rice neutralizes spice. You have to cook the rice and all the other stuff that goes in it (onions, bell pepper, meat, etc.) in the spice and add a good bit of it to make it actually spicy. Can’t just throw a few red pepper flakes on top and call it spicy.
Everything tastes very fresh though which I like. It would just be so much better if it didn’t taste like just straight fresh vegetables.
This is a restaurant that you need to experience. It is takeout only, so it’s the perfect spot for you and a couple of friends to grab a bunch of things to share with each other. Today, I purchased spring rolls, vegetable dumplings, fried tofu, tom kah soup, spicy basil noodles, and red curry. Everything was absolutely amazing and the spice levels were superb. Do yourself a favor and GO!!
First time trying! Great food !
The food was excellent. I loved the duck curry and sticky mango rice 😋
Best ice cream I have ever had and I'm 67 years old.

I ate here today for the first time. The food was outstanding and piping hot. In my opinion, this is the best Thai restaurant in town.
Beautiful decor, delicious food, and excellent service!
Amazing food with great service!
Extremely friendly! Pad thai was delicious and plenty spicy with medium spice.
I can't say enough nice things about this restaurant. Authentic flavor. Best pad Thai around and they have great service. I highly recommend the Basil fried rice and choochii fish
Hidden gem! A must try! <3
3.7/5 I have had thai food from all over the world, and this place is pretty average in comparison. Some dishes are better than others here. I had the Tom Kha soup for $6, ground chicken pad kra pao for $15, and the chicken green curry for $15. The soup was pretty standard, nothing special; not bad but not something that will knock your socks off. The pad kra pao was average as well, but the green curry I thought was pretty good and tasty. Overall wouldn't recommend when comparing to thai places i've been to around the country and other parts of the world. However, for Baton Rouge area, it may be one of the better spots.
Excellent authentic Thai food, you are able to specify your desired spice level (so don't worry too much about the dishes with the 'spicy' logo on the menu; you can adjust the level to your preference). Cozy ambience, and very friendly staff.
Love this place! Great food, small and homey, and staff was amazing! Will come back!
Ever since Siam Cafe closed in the quarter\marigny area post-Katrina, I pretty much gave up on finding the next-best Thai joint (due to a broken heart.) However, Duang Tawan is the real deal. Their noodle dishes, curries (especially Panang,) soups and their Thai coffees and teas are all phenomenal. I haven't seen them open since I've been back in Louisiana, but I no longer live near Sherwood Forest. Try the pad see ew, it's heavenly. Honestly, I loved every dish I tried. I'm a vegetarian so Thai restaurants can be tricky, but there are plenty of options.

Best authentic Thai food in Baton Rouge.
Our family loves eating here. The food is delicious and the people here are so sweet and attentive. We are vegetarians and the menu has enough options to choose from.
Everything was excellent. The pad Thai has a perfect flavor; so does the tom kha. I would give this restaurant 10 stars if I could.
i love this place
Had an absolutely amazing dinner last night. Food wasn't too expensive. Good portion of food. EATERS BEWARE, if you are not a super spicy food person, BE VERY CAREFUL with their red sauce that sits at the table. A little truly goes a long way. I use a good bit. And if your sinuses are clogged, I promise they won't be after you eat there.
The red curry is simply incredible. Best pad Thai you will find around here, better than kona. Service is excellent. It is one of my favorite restaurants!!!
Update: 7 years later, still the best Thai I've ever had! Best mom n pop shop
I'm vegan and they were able to accommodate! Thank you very much we will be back !!!
We absolutely love this place. We have tried all the Thai restaurants and gauge it by pad Thai and red curry and Duang Tawan, in our opinion, is the best Thai in BR. Best flavor, really friendly staff, and great portions. Always check Facebook to make sure they're open, they close randomly for vacations.
My fiancée has an addiction for their Mango Sticky Rice.... I might have to hold an intervention.
Very good food. Was so happy the lobby opened back up.
Best in BR!!!
Authentic in btr, do it, .... Do it
They just reopened the place for sit-down meals so go enjoy the ambiance again!
I refuse to eat panang curry from anywhere else. This family puts every other one I've tried to shame!

We ordered the chicken pad Thai and the Penang Curry. It was mediocre at best. Do not believe the reviews.
Been on a Thai food binge and this place by far hits the spot. The Shrimp Pad Thai is delicious and flavorful. Spring rolls reminds me of the same ones I get back east. And the Thai Ice Tea reminded me of how good, traditional Thai food is suppose to taste.
The only small complaint is they put too much ice in my Thai Tea which is to lessen the sweetness. Half my cup was filled with ice. Next time, and yes, I'll definitely will be going back, I will ask them to put 1/4 ice instead of the default 1/2.
Amazing Thai Food!!
The food was mediocre, and the Pad Thai can be easily replicated with a gas stove. I do not see why they believe they can charge almost $30 for this average-tasting entrée and one order of spring rolls.
This place is magical. Could eat the vegan pad Thai and fried rice every day. Vegan Pineapple fried rice is amazing. They are really good people too!
Best thai food i have had in Baton Rouge, and I have tried several places.
The Pineapple Curry with Shrimp, spice level Medium is DELIGHTFUL!!
The Basil Sauce with Chicken, spice level Med or High is Awesome.
They also have good soups.
I literally drive 35 minutes to pick it up, and it's worth every second! It is always ready when I get there, even when I order with less lead time (when I am in the area already), and they are nice!
My absolute favorite place to eat in Baton Rouge. Every single dish, including soups, is made from scratch when you order. The Tom Yum soup and Pad Prik King are my favorites.
Best Pad Thai in BR!
Takeout only since the pandemic, but once you've paid, she will bring it out to your car. The food is really good, freshly made, and flavorful. We love the Thom Kha soup and the cucumber salad. I've tried several things here, and I've never had a bad dish.
Great place! This was my spot to enjoy some Thai food when I lived in Baton Rouge. Definitely will be the first place I’ll go to when I visit the south!
This place is fabulous! From the Thai Dumplings to the Shrimp Pad See Ew, everything tasted delicious! Although they are only offering to-go with patio dining, the lady who took our order was so friendly. The patio was inviting, shaded and had lots of plants! Can’t wait to come back for more!
This was the worst Thai food I have eaten in Baton Rouge. The pad sew ew, chicken wings were so dry, no taste at all. I could barely find the tiny chicken in the pad see ew. I had to remake them at home to make them edible. My friend got the fried rice, same thing, just rice and salt. The food is also expensive, what a waste of money. Don’t trust the reviews like I did. Will never eat here again.
Truly the best customer experience in town! My co-workers and I were regulars pre-pandemic, and to this day the owners make sure to let me know they remember me (and my order lol). The food is great, and it’s one of the fews places left in Baton Rouge that gives that locally-owned level of care.
Stop what you’re doing and eat here. Seriously.
I was in town for work and this little restaurant caught my eye. It’s family owned, and the recipes certainly taste like they were passed through the family. The food was absolutely incredible. The Thai dumplings literally were the best I have ever had, and the soup was so amazing I ate it all, even sitting outside in almost 90 degree weather. Everything was so flavorable and fresh. This restaurant is a gem. I will certainly come back any time I’m in town!
One of the best Thai restaurants in BR!!! The pork pad Thai is my fav!!!
Great food and atmosphere in family run establishment. I wish I could give more than 5 stars.
Still Delicious. Curry Noodle with any Protein is my go-to recommendation for anyone's first time!
So good! Got takeout from here and it was great! Food was ready right on time and so delicious. Some of the best food in Baton Rouge
Been going here for years!! Its a small hole in the wall, but its the best Thai food ever!
I've been to a few Thai places in the city and this place is the best! Don't forget to try the Thai tea!
Best Thai food in Baton Rouge. Yes, I’ve tried them all. None of them are even half as good as Duang Tawan.
Food is amazing and always fresh.
Wow the food here is amazing. The flavors are top-notch.
So delicious!! The people here are extremely kind, and their food is to die for. My favorite pad thai. I live in Gonzales and insist on driving here any time I get the craving.
One of my favorite places to eat! I was super bummed when they had to close for a while, so I'm glad they're doing to go orders. I love their fried rice and dumplings--my favorite. I've always had stellar service, and I definitely can't wait to go again!
Best Thai restaurant in Baton Rouge
Amazing ambiance, wonderful people, the best Thai food in Baton Rouge.
I love this place so much. All of the herbs are freshly picked. Yummy food guaranteed.
We love coming here, they are amazing!
This is my favorite Thai restaurant. And by favorite, I mean, FAVORITE. I've tried every single Thai restaurant in Baton Rouge (and every single one in Baltimore) and this remains my favorite. Their food is consistent in amazing taste and quality. I've tried a lot of dishes here and I've liked every single one. The owners are a family and they will remember you if you go frequently (I used to go at least once or twice a week and when I lived here and now it's the first restaurant I go to when I visit). I once left my umbrella there by accident and didn't return until two months later and they had kept it and gave it back to me. I love this restaurant and the family that owns it! I've been coming here for 4 years and I will never stop. I brought many of my friends here and they love it so much that they come here with more of their friends. Best hole-in-the-wall Thai restaurant ever!
Everything I tried was great. The only thing they are missing is a kids menu for picky eaters and sweet tea.
Good food! But not good portions for to go!
Wonderful food, fast service, nice ambience, clean place. Highly recommend!
Decent place. Decent ambiance, Decent services but not so extraordinary
Excellent food and family run. They also grow a lot of their herbs and spices on site. Highly recommend!
A few friends and I went for the firsttime for my birthday. The food was some of the best I've had and the service was wonderful. The place is beautiful inside and out.
My husband and I just love this place! The food is just amazing and the people are so very friendly.
Extremely good and authentic food, and the customer service was fantastic. Only negative is that it's somewhat expensive, other then that I would definitely recommend!
Came by today and the food was delicious. I can say that they remain consistent with their food. It's always fresh and flavorful and the workers are always very courteous.
Been coming here for years. Simply the best thai food around
Never in 20 years I have ever had basil fried rice mixed with fish sauce, Either they didn't wash the pan which was used earlier or made the fried rice with fish sauce. Nearly threw up.Extremely bad experience.
The cuisine is excellent. Pricing is affordable also. This is a hole-in-the-wall without a big crowd, but I love the atmosphere. If you are not sure whether or not your palate can tolerate the spice, request the food mild. The staff routinely provides extra spices in case you want to add more heat. I had a great time.
Amazing pad Thai
I eat at this restaurant 2 to 3 times a week. The food is AMAZING!!! You will enjoy this place. I would give this place 10 stars if they had that option. I get the Basil noodle with chicken every time. Anything you order will be good. A friend of mine gets there padthai and said it’s really good. Hope this review was helpful!
Love this hidden gem super family orientated. I ordered for delivery(terrible cold/flu)and she even wrote on the Box feel better what a great personal caring touch
Damn the food is good. We had the pad thai
It was great. Well rounded flavor, very tasty.
Service was great, the waitress was very nice. Also our food was out very fast, but you know it was made fresh 😋
My favorite Thai restaurant in baton rouge
The food is good worthy of any money you are spending.
Ouch! Read rave reviews so perhaps had hopes set too high. Dry pad thai with only 6 odd tasting shrimp and almost no peanuts, curry was hot enough to send up a hot air balloon with more soup than edibles. Quite pricey for what we got. Maybe it being takeout was the problem but not willing to try again.
This is my new favorite Thai restaurant in BR. Everything was delicious and the staff were so kind.
Amazing! So good I forgot to take a picture. Going back for sure.
Great pad Thai and cute atmosphere. Just make sure you say mild! I love spicy foods and can tolerate a lot... I couldn’t even finish the hot pad Thai. Authentic for sure haha
Visited this place on a whim, looking for a Thai restaurant to have a late lunch with girlfriends and this place was the only one available after 2. I was not disappointed. The prices were reasonable and the portions were great for lunch size. The spices were exactly how I like it and the food had a very fresh taste.
Cust service is a plus. Food is prepared and ready by my arrival. Food always good.
Our group of six adults ordered six dishes to share family style, including crispy fried spring rolls, pork larb, spicy basil noodle, a panang with beef, a fried fish dish with sauce, an eggplant dish , and finally their home made coconut ice cream. Each dish, without exception, was delicious!! Highly recommend!!!😀
Great food. Friendly service.
Feels like home!
We really love coming here because it has such a great family atmosphere and the food is fantastic! It’s hard to veer off of our normal choices but when we do we aren’t disappointed. If you like Thai food I highly recommend this place!
Ask for the mixed soup
Green curry burned the roof off my mouth like I asked. It was delicious. Ty!
Surprisingly very good food, great service also. Definitely recommend everybody give them a try.
Authentic cuisine with good variety
Completely surprised! Went for Father’s Day with my family. We got five different entrées and all shared. But every single one of the entrées was five stars on its own!! Everything was amazing! We will be back!
Good food
Very fresh ingredients, ultra spicy if you want it. Best thai in baton rouge in my opinion.
People / staff are very freindly and the food was excellent. Nothing super fancy but iwould definatly go there again
This is undoubtably the best Thai restaurant outside of Thailand. Family run and operated it was beyond delish!!!
Love this place. Consistent and authentic!!!
Super cute inside and has beautiful tables. The prices are good for the food and the food is great. They have a great lunch special and I would definitely recommend them.
Hands down, the best Thai in Baton Rouge
The Duang knows how to cook!
My favorite Thai in Baton Rouge
Wonderful Pad Thai and large portions.
Best Pad Thai around!
This is a place you wouldn't normally find if you are neither a resident of BR nor just passing through, but if you do happen to come across it, it is the type of restaurant where should you point randomly to the menu while blindfolded the choices are just that great. They've been around more than a few years so the unassuming location has not hurt their business; if anything that should hint at how impressive a modest place can be. Customer service was flawless: was never ignored or felt rushed and their subtle but concise attention to detail removed any desire to ask for anything else.
Best Thai Restaurant in Baton Rouge! I love their lunch specials and Larb.
Delicious food and great service! 😊
I love the dumplings and sauce and the spring rolls and sauce. My husband orders the main meal for me because I'm not sure what is what but so far it has all been great!
Great food! Don't ask for the hot Pad Thia unless you have a serious tolerance for spicy food. And they are always super friendly.
Most amazing food and welcoming atmosphere, truly the best Thai restaurant in town!
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Baton Rouge
Excellent service and excellent food! My husband and I frequented this place when we lived in BR. We dream of their food all the time. The server always remembered us and generally what we liked to order. Moving away has made us appreciate this restaurant and their honest sense of spice. Nowhere we have gone has been able to compare to Duang Tawan’s flavor or spice!
After my trip to Thailand i have always been seaching for good authentic thai restaurant with good pad thai. For every thai restaurant I go, i will always try their pad thai first. I have been to a few in Houston and a 3 or 4 places in baton rouge which I were good at best. The pad thai here is great and is now my favorite, the sauce, peanut, bean sprouts, chicken are just right! This place is also so Thai, and I love it, the tv was playing thai shows, the owners were thai, and the decor was very traditional.
Will definitely be back to try other dishes.
5 star service
Good authentic Thai food. Dish I ordered is not spicy but I asked for it to be made spicy. Dish was brought to me not spicy as menu lists it. It was good but makes me wonder if they allow for modifications.
Best, most authentic Thai restaurant in Baton Rouge. Friendly and courteous, a really laid back, family environment. (I am Thai, btw, so I'm very picky about my food.)
They grow their own Thai spices.
All the food we had was excellant! I won't list them because I don't want you to think we're greedy. We had a few dishes and the spice level was exactly what we asked for. Get there!
Mostraste authentic restaurant
I absolutely love this restaurant! The food is fresh and delicious! The service is always wonderful!
