Sweet Basil Thai Cuisine and Sushi Bar began its journey in year 2006 by aiming to bring Savory Thai classics and surprising signature dishes along with creative fresh sushi to the Northern Kentucky area. Our casual and friendly services have been known among the locals who regularly stop by for carry-out or dine-in.
Over 17 years have passed, we are still remained consistency as the first day that we opened. The only change is now we see the kids 15 years ago are bringing their kids into the restaurant now.
We cannot thank enough to all the supports from our beloved customers.
Sweet Basil Thai is hands down one of the best spots for Thai food in the area. The lunch specials are a standout, offering generous portions at great prices, and the complimentary soup is such a nice touch to start the meal. The flavors are consistently fresh and vibrant, with a perfect balance of spices in every dish. The service is always friendly and efficient, making it a great place to drop by during a busy day. Whether you’re a fan of classic dishes like Pad Thai or crave something a bit more adventurous, Sweet Basil Thai never disappoints. Highly recommended for anyone who loves authentic Thai cuisine!
Dined here for Valentines Day and everything was amazing! We got sushi and several fried rice and curry dishes. Hands down the best!
Overall I had an ok experience here. A little on pricey side for the food you actually are getting and quality could use some improvement. The service and atmosphere was amazing.
The appetizers were a little on the skimpy side could of been 3 each would have been better. For my entrée I got pad kee mao a favorite of mine because it is a wide noddle. I decided to get the seafood combination that comes with shrimp scallops & muscles. It just wasn’t enough seafood, especially for the price of 1850. I was better off taking my chances and just getting shrimp. Also, the wide noodle was very cut up. It was like getting bits of your food. Wouldn’t get again. The sticky rice and mango a favorite of mine as well was $8 which is already higher than I’ve experience at other other places, the mango was perfect but unfortunately, my sticky rice was hard at the corners. Definitely not worth the price .Overall, if I came back to this place, I would get appetizers and a house Chardonnay. I do hope the quality improves. It is a nice looking place and environment.
I highly recommend eating here, the spring rolls are some of the best I've had in a long time and their pad thai is spot on.
Their tomkha soup (chicken coconut soup) is a perfect blend of ingredients and well prepared I am full and very happy. bless the hands that made my meal today.
We were just driving through to a job and found this place for lunch. Definitely would eat here again even go out of my way to do it.
Dined here for Valentines Day and everything was amazing! We got sushi and several fried rice and curry dishes. Hands down the best!
best pad tai I've had, sauce is wonderful.. crab puffs are good too, and they gave us soup too it was 👍

Great food and service. I recommend the crab puffs for an appetizer.
This was the most phenomenal
Fried rice and 3 kings meal ever and the owner is beautiful so 5 stars
Not fancy, but very good food. I'm a big fan of the fried rice dishes. My wife is a pescatarian and favors the noodle dishes. It's all good.
Went in for lunch right before 2pm. They close at 2:30, then reopen for dinner. Said they were only doing carry out. Just wanted some quick lunch. Won't be back.
Always have a good time
We LOVE Sweet Basil! It never disappoints. The service is fast and friendly, the atmosphere is tastefully done and the food is fabulous.
I've come this place for some time it's my favorite Thai restaurant around I have never had a bad experience here
Great food, tom yum is awesome. Server was spot on, and was in for lunch.. so quick service appreciated.
Excellent food and service.
Such flavorful food, fresh, hot when served. No wait! Prices are fair and reasonable. Service excellent 👍. Will definitely go whenever I'm in the area! I'm sorry I have no pictures, as the food was presented beautifully.
I have been eating at Sweet Basil for years. Service is great, food is delicious and a great value.
You can vary the spice level of each dish. Lots of vegetarian options.
We like your food but please fix your hours. We drove all the way Here to the doors being closed.
Hands down one of my favorite restaurants around. I take everyone I know here and order at least once every few weeks. They don't use msg, which is great. The staff is always exceptional and the food tastes amazing. I've tried several dishes and all of them are flavorful.
Love the pad Thai! Been coming for years and the food is always great.
Nice atmosphere and friendly service. Unfortunately, the taste of the food let things down. I ordered the seafood red curry. Presentation was ok, but the dish simply lacked flavor. It tasted more coconut milk than curry. Not what you’d expect from Thai where the taste is normally very flavorful. I usually take my leftovers home with me, but in this case, I wasn’t interested in doing so. I left feeling underwhelmed.
Excellent service and great food.
Food is always amazing not much room for parking. Fast and Speedy service and the waitress was amazing
Still trying the dishes but so far everything has been really good.
Great family atmosphere with wonderful staff. The food is great too!
Always our favorite!
Sushi and sashimi was fresh and delicious. Ginger salad rocked. Happy diner.
It’s disappointing. This place would have had a better rating, but the service was not great. The kid greeted us in a way of not really wanting us to eat in, and after they sat us there was a rush to try and get us to order. We showed up 2 hours before they closed for their lunch break. Overall it felt like us being there was a burden to the server, which is a bummer to try and get food before a flight. The food is pretty good though! My nigiri was done well and the chicken pad Thai that I had been craving for a while was tasty. Some of the better Thai food in the area!
my food was fantastic
..but my husband found a hair in his food..

Obsessed with the coconut chicken soup here- it’s hearty, warm, fresh, and full of chunky chicken, tomatoes and onions. It’s the perfect way to warm up on a cold evening, and I love that I can call ahead on my way home from work, and it’s ready for me to carry out as I drive by.
The sauces for some of their dishes are t sweet and too strong on the peanut buttes base sauces.
Très bon
Service rapide
Great Thai food and service is very friendly.
My sister-in-law taught piano for this family. Treated us very well and so nice to meet them. But this had nothing to do with the excellent food
Sweet Basil is our go-to place for a romantic meal or an intimate celebration. The ambiance is lovely, the staff is responsive and the food...well, the food is simply delicious!
Clean, bright lacking parking
Wonderful!!!
The food was very good, restaurant has a nice ambiance, and our server Kat was the best. The Hot Thai Basil Rice w/chicken is outstanding.
This was such a diamond of a find. I had just picked someone up for the airport, and we looked for something on the way. This is one of the best sushi places in 50 miles.
UPDATE: I decided to update my review after 8 years. It is now Spring of 2023 and this restaurant is still one of the top choices for me and my friends to eat and hang out at. You know how some restaurants get sloppy as the owners get disinterested over time? Not at this restaurant! Food is still absolutely great, if not better. I know it's technically a Thai restaurant but we come here for the best sushi in the whole Greater Cincinnati area, dishes are amazing, and the staff is very friendly and accommodating.
Old review:
I have had nothing but great experience with Sweet Basil restaurant. At times the place can get quite busy, but the wait staff does an amazing job keeping up with the service. Sushi can be slow-ish at busy times, however it is MUCH faster than other restaurants rolling sushi during busy times. I have been dining at Sweet Basil for a while now and I can tell that their employees care about their work. This is reflected in seemingly low staff turnover as well as an excellent and friendly service.
Haven't tried any curries but the specialty stir-fried stuff, appetizers, duck and fish are pretty great. Sushi, I would say, is above average and definitely great for what is not primarily a Sushi restaurant. They have limited but some good beer selection, including my go-to IPA Sierra Nevada at a reasonable price. I doubt there's a restaurant that had no mishaps. Difference at Sweet basil is that in an unlikely event that they do stumble, they'll fix your problem quickly and respectfully.
Prices overall are very reasonable. Not the cheapest but moderate, but if you are looking for a cheap food you will only find at a buffet-style Asian restaurant than you might as well go elsewhere as Sweet Basil is not a low quality food joint and neither should they charge the bottom dollar.
As long as Sweet basil is consistently delivering on service, quality, and tasty foods we will keep going there.
Great chicken pad thai and chicken satay.
The best Thia food I’ve had Spence being in Thailand.
Cute place and very clean. Pleasant invironment. Food is good but very spicy. I would say way too spicy that I wasn't able to injoy it. And it was 3 on the scale 1 to 10.
Do not order their pho! The worse pho I ever tried.
10/10 would recommend it. The atmosphere is very inviting and relaxing. My boyfriend and I both ordered the chicken pad thai, which was delicious! We ordered two sushi rolls; the shrimp tempura roll and the sweet honey roll. Both were great! Do keep in mind that sushi takes longer to make than some of the food so, make sure to save some room! My boyfriend got a Thai iced tea which had a nice smokey flavor. It was better than some of the other Thai iced tea we've tried. Overall, we had a great time and will be returning soon.
Food is good but I used to order like 7-9 and last night I ordered spice of 2 and it was still too hot for me.
Got the drunken noodles and they were delicious!!!
Family friendly, great service, tasty food. I would recommend this place. We had two Thai dishes (PadThai and another dish with Broccoli ) and Alaskan Roll and California Rolls.
The food here is always great! Their sushi is great quality. The signature sweet honey roll is delicious and unique.
Pad Thai had a really bad after taste. Service was meh
Last minute decision to stop in to Sweet Basil and it was a great choice! We had the Thai Basil Shrimp, Shrimp Pad Thai, and chicken fried rice. Each dish was absolutely delicious!
My family had a get together here right before they moved. The waitress we had was very caring and perceptive! We loved her. She was in top of it, even when it started getting busy. The food itself was awesome. My family ordered everything from soup, to their Thai entrées, and sushi. I heard happy saying all around. And from someone who loves decorating, it's a beautiful restaurant.
I haven't been there in 4 years, but had lunch there several times a month. I had dinner there this evening and it was better than I expected. Personable, quick service and great food.
Very nice place, good food and the staff are the best I think.
The restaurant smelled bad which is not a good sign. The pad Thai was alright but not great. I got a ginger salad with it and it tasted fine. Not the best I’ve had compared to other places. Overall pretty disappointing and not worth the $20+ I spent on one meal. I’ve been here several times before but I think It’s lost its touch a bit
The staff is always very nice. The food is extra delicious!
A real delicious bang for the buck, the Thai Basil Fried Rice with the Spring Rolls is a must
$15 sushi roll is horrible then when my wife complained about it, in the middle of me talking, she started talking in her native tongue and she called her out on it. We will not be back specifically for this item and maybe not at all.
Will not return. Food not to my liking. Service good. But think Taste of Thai on the West Side of Cincinnati is way better and so is
Buddha Barn in Sayler Park. Wortg it to take Andersons Ferry and eat on West Side of Cincinnati.
My husband picked me up my favorite foods from here for my birthday and WOW!! Absolutely amazing.
The papaya salad is to die for and the pad thai was perfect!
Spice is more on the mild side if you're used to thai/korean spice but it was so good! Can't wait to dine in and try more delicious foods
Their food is so delicious! My favorite restaurant in NKY!
Reliably good sushi and Thai food. Relatively small, can get packed quickly during popular times, but it's usually easy to find a table and have a quick meal. Parking can be tough if it's busy. Good location, friendly service.
Fantastic Thai food! Gone in a flash
Food was exceptional, service was high end and pricing was very fair. We will be back for sure.
I highly recommend Sweet Basil. The Pad Thai is excellent, and their sushi chef knows his stuff. Try the Poseidon rolls for something different.
One of my favorite restaurants! Always good food and friendly staff. Able to accommodate for gluten free allergy
Ugh, I don’t want to hurt a small business but my takeout order was not good. I ordered the summer rolls app and spicy eggplant entree. I didn’t have a great feeling initially when I saw fruit flies as I walked into the restaurant which made me doubt the cleanliness.
The shrimp in the summer rolls is supposed to be poached; the color was off which makes me believe it was undercooked. I ended up taking out all of the shrimp and pork. I probably should’ve just asked for a vegetarian version with tofu instead.
My entree was just ok. I didn’t realize the eggplant would be breaded and deep-fried, I guess I didn’t read the menu closely enough. I’ve never had eggplant dishes from Thai restaurants where it comes deep fried, but maybe the concept is different in KY than NY. I asked for 8/10 spice level and I would say it was more like 3/10. It wasn’t spicy at all. I could’ve asked for chili sauce or sriracha ahead of time but didn’t think about it.
Anyway, I woke up pretty ill and that lasted about half a day to run its course.
Dining in may yield a better experience. The restaurant was about 50-60% full at 8:30 on a weeknight, so locals must like it. Unfortunately, I had a different experience.
A favorite for date night and lunch with friends/coworkers. Sushi is good, and the yellow curry is a definite must try.
Amazing!!!!
Great place for lunch. Excellent food and service. Have not tried the sushi here but the Thai dishes are all winners here.
Not open on Mondays which is a bummer.
got here Just as they opened!
such a nice meal and the entire staff very accommodating
had the Best Green Curry w/ Chicken ever!
highly recommend
Excellent!
The food was good
I probably come here 3 times a month lol with friends and family we love! Is best around very delicious foods🙌 excellent service!
I like the decor of the restaurant very clean and cozy. I ordered Ginger chicken stir fry and it was delish. But not enough of veggies and chicken all rice.
Absolutely delicious and service hard to find these days! The crispy duck is amazingly tender and served with delicate fried basil leaves that elevates the dish to the stratosphere. Top off the meal with the sticky rice and mango, you won't regret it! The massaman curry also deserves an honorable mention with the fragrant curry and tender chicken. The best Thai food I've had in a long time since moving to the Midwest. Make this part of your trip if you're anywhere nearby. The server's smile and attention to detail make it worth the trip!
Muy rico el arroz con camaron y unos camarones de entrada súper ricos
Food was amazing and service was great!
Great food!! Loved the spicy Thai sauce with chicken!
Awesome place! Great service and food!
Good food. Always clean. Great local go to.
Food is exquisite. Prices are very reasonable. Staff is warm and funny. Inside is very clean and also really cute. Location is convenient too. I recommend to everyone. I don't have a favorite dish yet because I want to try everything first!
I have been going there since they opened across the street from the current location. I moved to Union now and there are other Thai restaurants much closer to me but I still drive 20 mins here every time when I want Thai food! They have the best Tom Yum noodles soup!
Love the food. Excellent lo mein. Food always served in a timely manner and with a smile. Always eat here when visiting the area.
Their chicken pad thai never disappoints!
The food here was excellent!!! Will definitely be going back!
Great food, we eat here often
Cabbage Soup? Good. Spring Rolls? AMAZING!!!! Beef Pho? More like beef faux. It is good but it is not PHO. Pho comes with cilantro, lime, Thai basil, jalapeño, and bean sprouts on the side. This came with mini corn, bell peppers, carrots, broccoli, etc, already in the soup. Which is fine to take out, but the bell peppers put a flavor in the broth that does not make this pho. And it seems odd to spend more money in putting things in it that don't belong than to just leave it be with the bean sprouts. Call it what it is- beef soup. We will be back but will definitely do without the Pho sadly...
The food here has surprised me since the first time we tried this place. We went there on Christmas Eve and the sushi, chicken fried rice, and popcorn chicken were some of the best we've had in quite some time. We'll certainly be back soon!
Friendly at the window and a delicious burger! Love Wendy's ❤️
Good food, fresh taste, friendly service!
Good food Good service
My work colleagues went to grab some lunch and placed an order for me. Then when they were done eating, they asked were the placed order is. The staff didn't put the order in and they needed to leave to go back to work. Now I'm sitting here starving and I dont have enough time to eat...I guess its really hard to preform your job, Christ.
Great sushi
My 9 year old son wouldn't stop raving about the massamam curry. The Tom yum soup was fabulous. We also really enjoyed the pad woon Sen and pad kee Mao. Overall great food and service.
What a nice place! Loved the atmosphere, it so bright and cheery. The owner had to step in and wait tables because an employee called in sick, he did not miss a beat. In fact, I received exceptional service. The food was great too, really enjoyed the soup. Thank you! I will be back.
Had a pretty bad experience. Walked out even before ordering.
Great affordable food
Fantastic food and staff
Absolutely lovely. Looking forward to my next dining experience and the tasty morsels that I'll be able to savour.
Love their food and the service is always good.
Best Thai food in the area and a great gluten free menu.
Excellent service and excellent sushi
Great food! Slow service.
Good food
Hotpot was gross. Don't get it
I like most people haven't been out to eat for a while, I was very pleased at the service and the quality of the food.
Food and service is awesome. The sushi is amazing and so are the hot pots. Can't wait to go back again.
Just a bit slow on a slow night. Good food. Had a dragon roll appetizer and chicken pad thai meal. Will be back.
Sushi was so good!
Great food good prices wonderful service. I will definitely be back
Excellent food!
Friendly. Fast. And fantastic food.
I got takeaway here. The food was excellent. The pad thai was great, the pad see ew was even better. The satay was good, so was the sushi and gyoza. I will definitely order again.
Just tired this place. Food was very good. Service good. Prices reasonable. Will definitely go back..
