Came here from NC to celebrate my brothers girlfriends 21st birthday, we had reservation we were seated right away but took server 10 min to come back we ordered egg rolls. They came out within about seven minutes. We then ordered our entrées. The food did not come out until 40 minutes later. And it was all of the wrong dishes. My brother is allergic to peanuts. We specifically told him that, and they still brought his dish out with peanuts. After waiting for 40 minutes for the food. We just left and went to Mr. Gyro always top-tier.

I also came here before like four years ago. We had a decent time. Don’t know if they got new management or they need to retrain. Their servers overall will not be going back anytime soon

Most authentic Thai food in Kansas City. My wife and I recently vacationed in Thailand and had trouble finding “authentic” food at home in KC. Lots of meat and flavor in every dish. Best dine-in lunch special too. Everything is fresh and made to order, especially the spring rolls.

I came here as a treat from my family and if I'm ever in Kansas again I will definitely be coming back here. The food was fantastic and even though it was a little slow when we went, it was great how nice the staff were. I highly recommend the fresh spring rolls with the deliciously odd peanut sauce 😋

For some reason, my original review got deleted. Certain food were good. I ordered the pad thai and it was very plain. I. Ordered it hot, but only certain areas of the dish was spicy. I had them take it back and redo it. The fried rice was plain too and it seemed like it wasn't seasoned thoroughly, but that was okay. It didn't bother me as much as the pad thai.
Curry was great and so was the tom yum soup.
Prices aren't bad. Other Thai places are more expensive for the dishes I ordered.

We stopped here for dinner on a whim and could not be more thrilled to have found what will inevitably be a new favorite spot.

The atmosphere is cozy, clean, and upscale. Service was phenomenal. Every time my drink got 3/4 empty it was filled without asking.

As for food, I tried the Thai Rangoon and Phad Kee Mao. The Rangoon were light, flaky, and flavorful. The sweet and sour was excellent. The Kee Mao is perhaps one of the top 10 best things I’ve ever eaten. Just incredible.

To top it all off, one of the staff played live piano beautifully for 15 minutes. Highly recommend.

Please remove the lemongrass pieces that are as hard as uncooked pasta from your Tom Yum tofu (or anything else). I had to spit them out each time they went into my mouth. It was terrible.

You just can’t beat the quality of food for the price. Outstanding green curry rice. Definitely a place lunch.

This was my 1st time there. A group of friends met there. Be careful, even if you like spicy food, scale back a degree. One member of the group was gracious and picked up the whole tab, that was unexpected! 😅

The good smells aren't a lie. I used to doordash from Sawasdee's for 2 years and I never actually ate there until recently. I took my mom to try it, who is extremely picky with Asian food. She was very impressed with their fried rice and I was very happy to try their Yellow Curry (Thai spicy). I strongly recommend checking it out.

I'm not sure they understand what mild is, but their curry sure is delicious! I've enjoyed all of the different curry that we've tried there, but the Red Curry is the most popular at our household. And as one would expect from curry, it's safe for those with Celiac unless you can't handle spicy food.

8/1/2024 you must have a new cook. The fried rice is basically bad. I can barely eat 1/4 of the food. My wife ordered pad ke mow. Same. Very disappointed with our meal. PBJ for dinner

2 out of 3 uber eats rip offs (not the fault of uber eats). Last nights meal was pathetic and expensive to be completely ripped off. Pad see eaw was lacking the vegetables! Shrimp (which is $3 extra) and noodles is what i got. The soft spring rolls...i only got THREE pieces, not the normal 6 half roll pieces you normally get for $8! 🤬 🤬🤬🤬🤬 The "sauce" was a tiny plastic container only filled half way with clear liquid sugar...no peanuts like usual.

Ripping people off will cost you more than it cost me. Never again. Pretty mad about it, actually. I guess you know you arent held accountable if the client isn't eating there. I'll wait a little longer for delivery from now on and use a MUCH BETTER thai restaurant who takes pride in their food and service and actually care about the customer.

I had quit eating there, in restaurant years ago due to owner (wife)rudeness and a wrong order incident in which they blamed me. Since then I frequently eat in at Hot Basil. They are very friendly and don't act like they've never seen you before like sawasdee. And the food is genuine, not buried in sugar.

Recently decided to try sawasdee again with uber eats instead, since its very close to home. 1st order was good and i was pleased. Last 2 were very poor.

Reply to owner response: i was just pointing out that overall it was not a good value... i know the shrimp is more but when they leave out the vegetables, its not what i paid for. And, the spring rolls are now so small i thought they were the half pieces. They used to be twice as big.

I recently had an incredibly disappointing experience with SAWASDEE. I tried to place an order over the phone, and the worker was extremely rude. She tried to convince me to pick up my order in 15 minutes, instead of at 8:30 PM, which is 30 minutes before closing. When I told her I couldn't make it in 15 minutes, she hung up on me.

Thinking it might be a mistake or a bad connection, I called back to verify the status of my order. She answered with a curt "yes, 08:30 it is" and then immediately hung up again.

This incident isn't isolated. Last week, I tried ordering and picking up at 8:45 PM, and she was unhappy with the time, trying to make me come at 8:35 PM instead.

Based on these past two incidents, I will not spend a penny at a restaurant that employs such an impolite person. Never again.

Delicious Thai food in a relaxing atmosphere. Fresh ingredients and lots of options, and the staff are very friendly.

I tried this place Three weeks ago for the first time and have been back four times since then. Great food!

Absolutely horrible service.
Waitress took our order and proceeded to try to memorize our order without writing anything down.

This turned into her having them make the wrong meal in the back.

My girlfriend politely said that was not what she ordered.

The teenage girl proceeded to argue and give 10/10 attitude telling my girlfriend she was not pronouncing the name of the meal wrong.

I will not be back here ever again. No waitress should EVER give attitude like that to a customer

I eat here almost every Thursday with a buddy and the food is amazing. Today one of the employees was playing live piano and it made the experience even better. What a great surprise.

Stopped in for an early dinner with my wife. Upon sitting down we noticed one of the supposedly clean appetizers plates had some gunk on it; so obvious I can’t imagine it wouldn’t be noticed by whoever placed it there. Should have bailed right then.

We ordered the Curry Crab Rangoon to share and they were very good. My wife ordered Yellow Chicken Curry, medium spicy and it was average. I ordered Green Chicken Curry, medium spicy. It came to the table at very high temperature and looked and smelled good. Since it was so temperature hot my first taste was with a very small amount with a lot of rice. It was so spicey hot I recoiled in pain. I stirred it up, hoping the hot spice was accumulated at the top but my next bite was just as inedible. I’m sure there are people who like their food incredibly spicy and would have enjoyed this but those people would have ordered it that way. I told the waitress and she seemed happy to replace it with a much less spicey version. My wife shared some of her Curry which I would say was medium/mildly spicey. When I tasted my replacement Curry, it was absurdly salty and ridiculously thin. It seemed as if the “chef” must have been angry that the dish had come back and made sure the replacement was even worse. I’m talking about a tablespoon or more of salt in the serving of Curry.

Avoid this place!

I ordered the Red Curry with Shrimp and it was amazing. Would highly recommend.

The chicken portions on the curry are very small when you order carry out. Perhaps the portions are better when you dine in, which I haven’t done. Food is great otherwise.

The most amazing Thai Ragoons I have ever had!
The Pad Thai (mild) had no spice if you are sensitive to spicy and want a good baseline to gauge. Also, a perfect way to end your mealtime is with a cup of hot Thai Tea (there is no sugar in it or sweetener and it’s perfect).
Highly recommend and I will be back again soon as well as spread the word about this place!

The first thing I noticed walking in to the restaurant was that it smelled like a reststop bathroom. Both the serving area and decor were dingy but clean I guess? The only reason I stayed was because I was meeting a friend who recommended this place. The service was good with attentive waitstaff. The fried spring rolls were hot/fresh and came with a nice sweet & sour sauce. On the other hand the soft spring rolls were difficult to stomach consisting of way too large of a wrap resulting in endless chewing. The chicken fried rice was okay, not terrible flavor although the chicken had a lot of gristle making it next to impossible to eat. I continued getting whiffs of a reststop bathroom so maybe carryout would've been a better option.

LOVE LOVE LOVE! I have never had such a pleasant dining experience. The food is authentic, the servers are wonderful, and the family-owned dynamic adds to the experience! I highly recommend you try this restaurant! My great-aunt joined us for dinner last Tuesday, and is historically is not a Thai-cuisine fan, but she has raved about the duck from Sawasdee ever since! We will definitely be back-- this is definitely a staple for our family now!

Best Thai and curry in the kc metro by far!

Food was great. Chicken pad thai was authentic and tasteful. Our service was exquisite. The server was quite funny and amicable. Would recommend this place to anybody looking for thai food around the area.

Met the co-owner tonight. She designed her own spicy rangoon recipe for this restaurant. A star dish.

All the dishes I've ordered from here taste delicious. They always give you generous servings at a reasonable price. I highly recommend.

The food has so much flavour the curries are spicy but not to hot to take a way from the taste. i have lived in New York City, Philadelphia and traveled internationally and this is one of my favorite asian restaurants and the best thai i have every eaten.

I had been here many years ago and it was very good but this time, the food wasn’t as good as should be. My husband and I love Thai food and this didn’t measure up. The meat in our food was overcooked and the Thai fried rice that my husband loves was too sweet. It shouldn’t be sweet at all! Very disappointed and we will not be back.

Had the appetizer platter and the panang curry chicken. Good all around. Definitely coming back.

My favorite Thai place in Kansas! You will love the garlic pepper with beef entree. That is my favorite. I also always get Thai tea and sweet mango rice. The mango rice is devishly delicious.
I am a fan of the dumplings and crab Rangoon as well.

This place was amazing! My first visit and I can't wait to go back. The curry and spring rolls were delicious. My favorite thing was the papaya salad. It was the best I've had in any restaurant. The flavor was perfect blending the sweet, sour and spicy into the perfect bite!

Frequent diner here. I usually get takeout but have dined in a few times. The owner is very nice and will play the piano while you eat the food he just made. Portions are generous and the food is always delicious.

We ordered red gravy the other day but it came without the gravy. How amazing. It had only chicken and it was dry.

Absolutely the best Thai food I've had in a very long time. Wife and I went for lunch, she got the Jungle curry and loved it. I got the graprow (sp?) -pictured- And it was heavenly. The spicy Rangoon were also delicious. Service was great, price was literally $10/person for lunch, and atmosphere was cozy.

They have the best pad thai and crab rangoons!!! Treat myself to this place at least once a month!!

The red curry was milky spicy and finished with a sweet tang.

Quality seems to have gone downhill. I’ve been going here for 5+ years and went again recently. The noodle dish I got was saturated in an abnormal amount of grease, and the crab rangoons were cold when I picked them up (on time).

I always come here for Tom Yum soup when I am in the neighborhood. It is one of the best in town, and certainly the best when it comes to value. However, about 4 weeks ago (early October 2022), there was no cilantro used in the soup at all and the spice wasn't quite at the level I had requested (extra spicy), and this last time, yesterday, November 8th, 2022, there was no cilantro and no thai chilis in the soup, despite requesting it be "extra spicy". Thai "bird" chilis are what this dish is built upon, so lacking them completely really isn't Tom Yum. Due to the lack of base flavor from the thai chilis it presented an odd sweet taste, that left an unpleasant after taste.

I am going to take a few months ordering from here for a while, and frequent my second favorite thai place, which is about 10 extra minutes out of my way, and costs a bit more, but it's worth it to me to get the food I want and expect.

I am still open to giving them another chance, but it's unreasonable to assume that there is going to be an immediate change when a specific problem has persisted for over a month. I hope them all the best going forward.

Great food. Flavors were dynamic and fresh. Unfortunately they use doordash to fulfill their delivery orders and the drivers can take up to more than an hour to deliver the food in which case it arrives cold and unsatisfactory.

One of our order was a basil wing, which says "Crispy wings sauteed in Thai basil and garlic sauce" on the menu. But when the food is delivered, the basil wings were made with bell pepper, which we are allergic with. We ended up wasting the dish, because we didn't know there is the bell pepper to ask for "NOT add on our food." Please be aware that food allergic reaction can be very serious with some people. I've never had a less than perfect experience here. I've not found a single dish on the menu that wasn't exceptional. The staff here are always extremely polite and welcoming. There is a waiter that will play the piano from time to time and even that is delightful.

If being passionate about really good food, customer service and piano playing were what these folks set out to achieve in life, bravo. You've made it.

Food quality: Excellent! Order the red curry, you won't regret it. I tried the pad thia (bc I love me some pad thia) and the red curry was twice as good. The quality of the food really redeemed this restaurant.

Atmosphere: It was clean, so that's was appreciated. However, the back of house was loud (laughter and loud conversations). Also, the front of house lacked professionalism- it was clear the server didn't take the job seriously. Some would appreciate such relaxed and chill service, don't get me wrong, but I was expecting a more upscale experience.

Extremely mediocre and overpriced. I did to-go and staff was friendly. I got a Thai ice tea it was about 3/4 the way full and watery. I got the sawasdee rolls, it was basically lettuce wrapped up in rice paper and the peanut sauce was only about half way full. Lastly the Tom Yum, had no spice, a lot of broth that was bland.

Food is too sweet, curry too sweet, massaman curry is so thick it's pretty much just peanut butter, service was awful even though it wasn't busy at all, owners had horrible attitude, we had to go up and get our own silverware and water because no one was getting us anything

This place has the best pad thai in Kansas City. Sweet staff and fabulous food- serving size is great and can easily be two meals if you like to take left overs!

The tom yum soup was delicious! The tofu really picked up the flavor of the delicious, vinagery, lemony, delightfully tart soup with pieces of real lemongrass in the bottom. The basil wings were a definite hit for my partner, who commented on the delicate crispiness of the skin, the cuts into the wing so that the flavor could marinate on the inside, and the flavor itself as "explosive". The only downside of this meal was for me the panang curry tofu. Too sweet and too strong of a peanut flavor for my taste. Very overpowering and one note. My partner said that he could eat the phad see ew every day.

Great food and very friendly staff. If you get lucky, the owner/cook might play the piano for you. Lovely place.

Best Thai restaurant in the KC area :)

We had gone to Sawasdee's a couple of times and loved it. However, the most recent time a man who claimed to be an owner ruined the experience. When I asked for the heat to be "not the hottest, and not the mildest, but the two dishes I ordered should be on different sides of medium" I received the two dishes that were both so spicy as to choke me. I could not eat them. When I asked why they were both the same and both so hot, he was very rude. He refused to bring anything else (unless we paid to have the dishes redone) and refused to take anything off the bill -- which was not really what I was looking for, but since I couldn't eat it, it would have helped. As I said, I would have chalked this up to my mistake except that I'd ordered this from this restaurant before and did not have this problem. If this guy was the owner, as he claimed, I would not recommend going to this restaurant. I know I will not go back!
