Relaxed restaurant offering noodle & rice dishes along with other traditional Thai food.
This is my new favorite spot. I had the pad thai with chicken spice level six and it was excellent. I also had the vegetarian spring rolls which were very good. They are crispy and not soggy or greasy. The restaurant itself is a quaint little shop that seats about 30. I just placed an order for pickup. They have free wifi just ask for the password.
This place has been here for five years, but we just heard about it, so we thought we would go check it out. Service was good and decor was simple.
We ordered chicken lettuce wraps, beef pad Thai, green curry, and chicken sate. The flavor of the chicken lettuce wraps was pretty good, I was a little surprised it had water chestnuts, which I am not a fan of. The beef pad Thai was a little sweet, but ok otherwise. The green curry was very good, but should have ordered it a little spicier. The chicken sate was ok, but I didn't like the peanut sauce.
This place is easy to miss if you are not looking for it, it is tucked behind Granite City.
Absolutely delicious food. The place will be busy on weekdays, so get here early . The menu prices are extremely fair and reasonable. This should be on everyone's regular rotation of restaurants! The staff was very friendly and going above and beyond to make sure you had everything you needed, even during the peak of rush hour.
Good not great budget Thai food. Issues on the business side of things since the dining room is closed, apparently due to lack of wait staff. Understand and sympathize given how covid must have been on them, but its 2024 at the end of the day.
Hope they can figure that issue out and stay in business as their atmosphere is a perfect hole in the wall budget eatery, and the people working there are very nice.
My husband and I stopped by today to get to go lunch after our daughters surgery. We have been years ago and enjoyed the food throughly but due to moving/covid we have not been. Let me preface by saying my husband is Lao/Thai and if he gives a Thai restaurant glowing reviews and continues to go back...they know what they are doing and the food that is served is authentic. We will never go back and unfortunately will never recommend it to others. My husband got the jungle curry and it was....a soup... a TON of broth... a few pieces of pork and a couple veggies. My husband took two bites and the "curry" had seriously zero flavor. He poured it down the drain along with the Tom yum soup that was ONLY broth (which btw is not homemade... it was made with a pasta bought at the grocery) and 3 mushrooms. I got the red curry and it was ok. Definitely not the 6+ stars I ordered and the meat too was sparse. Rice was also clearly old and refrigerated and heated back up. Mushy and flavorless. $20 down the drain. Avoid this place if you enjoy flavor and know how authentic Thai dishes are supposed to taste.
Pictured is the jungle "curry" more like a flavorless soup broth 😆
Sorry about the half-eaten photo, but we started to devour this as soon as we got home and forgot to take a picture beforehand!
I had the sesame chicken and my wife had the kaw soi (curry chicken / noodles).
Unbelievably excellent. I am literally speechless on how to describe the taste, flavor and quality of what we just experienced, so I will leave it at that.
The lunch specials also come with an eggroll and some homemade sweet-and-sour sauce, and a soup. Both were excellent as well. You never know what you’re going to get from takeout food but this was right on par with dining in, and I had about a 10 min drive home and another 10 min before we could eat - no microwaving, food was perfect temp.
The order was placed and paid for over the phone, And the person who came out to deliver it and have me sign the check took all of the COVID guideline precautions and even stood back a few feet while waiting for me to sign the check (and leave and awesome tip). It came in around $18 for two lunch specials. We both have enough left over for lunch tomorrow. Can’t beat that.
This just went from a place we’ve been wanting to try for years, to the top of our ‘go to’ list! Can’t wait to go back!
Live there food, try the fresh spring rolls, pad Thai and papaya salad... Disappointed that they never opened dine in
Best Thia this side of the Mississippi
Best Thia the other side is Taste of Saigon in Boston area
I've finally found a place stateside that makes a tasty Pad Kaphrao just like I get in Thailand. If you're accustomed to Thai spice levels, I recommend getting the highest (six). It's equivalent to a normal level in Thailand. This is the first Thai restaurant that I have been to in the metro that is actually operated by Thai people. The staff was very courteous and I was able to converse in my limited Thai.
Aroy mak mak! I'll definitely be coming back and can't wait to try some currys and to see if they make Khao Ka Moo. ขอบคุณมาก

First time trying. Great food, wonderful service. Will be back!
Great Thai, my favorite for a cheap, good lunch. Only complaint is they get really backed up at prime lunch times and it can take a while.
Update: Changed from 4* to 1*. Been wanting to come back here for years but the dining room is closed. Please let me know when you reopen your dining room.
Our food took over an hour for takeout. Here’s what I think they do - we called it in 30 mins before going to pick it up. They didn’t even start on our food until we showed up and at that point there were 4 other newer orders that they put ahead of ours. Another guy waiting was also upset with how long it took. No apologies or empathy when I said something. Also I only wanted level 1 spice and they dumped so much spice I. The food we could hardly taste it. Rude service and food tastes like any other Thai-Vietnamese place in Des Moines. Go to DeRice or Cool Basil.
Excellent food.
This is my go to for great Thai food. I usually get the tom yum fried rice with 2 star spicy and it's perfect every time!
Delicious food, wonderful staff!
It's so disappointing to give this place a negative review. I've eaten here hundreds of times and it was one of the best Thai restaurants in Iowa / Des Moines without question but sadly since Covid they've refused to open their doors to customers and regulars. It's 2023, I don't feel there's an excuse. If you're permanently delivery only. Then please rebrand as such. It's an insult to the customer and a huge disappointment to your regulars. I hope one day you reconsider and reopen your doors.
The chicken pad Thai is very good!
Really enjoy their lunch special, I was hesitant about their coconut soup but it was delicious!
Everything I tried was delicious! Not to mention the generous portions and great prices. Will definitely be coming back!
This is my first time visit to this restaurant and ordered economy lunch set and took jungle curry. Unfortunately they put full of salt and I couldn’t able to eat it. Waste of money and I trashed it completely.
Tom yum fried rice is so delicious! The staff is friendly. Can’t wait to try more of their food next time!
It’s an awesome place for Thai food. Good price good quantity good people
This is one of our families favorite restaurants. Amazing food and great staff.
We love the people and the food! Their pumpkin curry is so good as is everything else we have tried. We also appreciate that they have brown rice. We always order enough for leftovers. I want to order their food now. They open in two minutes. :)
Oh, my!! Wonderful food. First visit, so I can't speak for the entire menu, but everything we had tasted spectacular & served piping hot. My new favorite place!
Great food!
I have been going to this place for years, and I’ve never been disappointed! The food is outstanding- from the appetizers to the entrees. My favs are definitely the pumpkin curry and green curry! Service is always spot on. So happy to be a returning customer! 😄
Good food.
I know things are tough since restaurants refuse to pay staff enough to want to work. However, after a 13 hour shift it would be nice if places stayed open to the time they list on their google page. So I can stop going there and being turned away. Or being told that they decided to make food until 825 but at 830 they are closed.
Food is always fresh and yummy!!!!!
Zuzap Forever!
Excellent Food
First time trying, won't be back. Food was bland. Not terrible but definitely not good.
AMAZING! EVERY! SINGLE! TIME! Not sure how else to say it. Value; outstanding. Food; exquisite. Customer service: top notch! I get BBQ fried rice special meal set. Meat is always lean and flavorful AND..... this is something I wish all take outs did.... even though they package it in Styrofoam, they always wrap the food in foil so it stays HOT! Super highly recommended!
Best Thai food in the Midwest!
My husband and I stopped by today to get to go lunch after our daughters surgery. We have been years ago and enjoyed the food throughly but due to moving/covid we have not been. My favorite place in Des Moines for Thai food!! I always get the yellow curry and it’s pretty much life. 😍 Their mango sticky rice is the best I’ve ever had…and order the taro pearls, I promise you won’t be sorry (eat them hot, though!)
Haven't had good Pad Thai since Saigon Cafe closed down. Until now. Zuzap's Pad Thai is superb! I don't think I want to try it anywhere else now. They will adjust the spiciness to your liking, it has the right amount of peanuts that are ground to a perfect size and doesn't overwhelm the dish. The noodles were cooked perfectly. So many flavors going on at the same time. Highly recommend!!
Everything was perfect. Absolutely excellent.
I've had Thai food in many places across the continent. The Summer Rolls here have been by far the best. Very fresh, great flavor and their sauces compliment nicely. The sweet basil fried rice is the best fried rice I've ever had. My family greatly enjoys the green curry. Be careful what spice level you ask for..... you may get it! 😉
Call early..... they get very busy. Currently no dine-in.
This place was so so good! Unfortunately we didn't get to sit down and eat it at the restaurant BUT it was worth the wait as they made it fresh for us. The flavors were so good! The coconut soup is amazing! And the Pad Thai was so delicious! Definitely recommend!!!
The absolute best Thai food in the entire Des Moines metro. Tom Yum Fried Rice is my favorite, but their curry dishes are out of this world as well.
Best thai food in Des Moines. Easy.
Best damn Thai food in the Des moines area, drove from the south side just to pick it up. I'll definitely be a repeat customer.... if you can get an order in that is, good luck getting on the phone.
Take out only for now. Very tasty and authentic Thai dishes. Standard Chinese options also available and well prepared. Will return to try out the rest of the menu.
So tasty! Can’t wait to go back!
Wonderful food. Don't go when your in a hurry. I love the Crazy Noodle and the Eggplant dish.
Update: we don't go here anymore because of too many times closing early. If you post a time don't stop seating half an hour before the time you indicate closing.
I wish I could give more than 5 stars the menu has a lot of variety that I look forward to trying but the Pumpkin Curry Thai hot was so good its going to be hard for me not to order it everytime!!
Great food and good for takeout. Service for dine in could be better.. but a very reasonable priced menu..
Khao Soi is a Chang Mai dish impossible to find stateside, and even harder to find that tastes like the real thing. Zuzap is the first place I've found in the U.S. that does it justice. Very good. Tom yum soup is spot on as well. Highly recommend!
Excellent food!
Always consistent, hot and such kind people. This is my go-to Thai place every time.
Best we've found anywhere. We've been getting this for years and even drive from 30 minutes away to pick it up.
Food is amazing!
Best Thai food in West Des Moines!
Great place! Hidden gem in West Des Moines.
Glad I discovered Zuzap🙂
Fantastic food and service!!! The most Authentic Thai I have had in the Des Moines area. Must try!
Great curry and super affordable prices!
Sorry about the half-eaten photo, but we started to devour this as soon as we got home and forgot to take a picture beforehand!

Just got takeout. Thanks for being open.
Today my wife and I went to Zuzap for the first time. It was great. They were very friendly. Food is very tasty. We highly recommend it and we will come back.
Always excellent food and service. Highly recommended!
Great service even when orders got mixed up.. great food. No complaints.
Excellent food but take out is SO slow
Best Thai food in town! Excellent take out. Great flavor and they will actually make is spicy if you request it. I would not recommend eating in, which is the only reason this place isn't even higher rated. People still eat in at hole in the wall Asian restaurants? Get takeout every time.
Excellent hole-in-the-wall place with very good offerings.
Good Thai food. Dine in or takeout. Great prices.
Great food and fair prices
Great hole in the wall Thai food. Service can be a bit slow, but the food has never disappointed.
Great tasting meal!
Took about 50 min to get my food. Only reason it isn't lower is because it was cheap and the food want terrible. Not worth 50 min though.
Very slow service
It took them a good 10 minutes to take my order and a good 45 minutes from then to get me the food. There's no point in waiting that long.
Edit 1: Visited this restaurant again hoping they would serve quick this time. Same thing. They don't have enough staff to handle the restaurant when it gets busy. If it's busy, good luck getting your food.
This is my lunch go to spot about once a week. Expect the meal to come out slow, but very hot, and you will likely run into potentially opinionated wait staff who will discourage you from certain items (which I think is great). The Choo Chee Thai Curry keeps me coming back every time.
Everything is five stars here except the seating. They should seriously replace some of the bench seats. I know it sounds like I'm nitpicking, but that's because this is the best Thai or Asian restaurant I've been to in 100 miles, at least tied with A Dong. Prices? 5 stars. Quantity? 5 stars. Variety? As long as you like Asian food, 5 stars. The food is high in variety and high in quality. They are a small place, but they are clean, and the atmosphere is better than average.
The value of this place is the best part, they are inexpensive, but still a cute place to eat. Whether lunch or a quick date meal, it works out well.
If I can recommend something that I am very passionate about, it is their Thai Coconut Soup with 5/6 star spicy levels. Like all of their food, it is so much better than they are charging for it.
If you don't like Thai, get the sesame chicken, the General's chicken, or the pad thai. I could sit there and eat nothing but shrimp rangoons if I wanted.
Chinese options that taste like no one else, curry options I'd not had before, better fortune cookies than anyone else, it's amazing.
When family or friends visit town, they only want to go here. I can't say enough good things. I can't think of anywhere I like more for full meals.
I have had over 20 things on this menu, and every time I want to try something new, I do so with absolutely no trepidation. No matter what the food is, it is well prepared, flavorful, fresh, it's fantastic.
The slow reviews are LEGITIMATE! I received my appetizer (Tom Kha soup and veggie roll, which tasted very good) 20 mins after ordering. Received my entree 50 minutes later, and they forgot the chicken (ordered Pad Thai). They also forgot it at the table next to me. They collected all the orders from other tables at once, then brought them all together. If you’re looking for great food and great service, head north to Siam Table in Ankeny. Best Thai food I have had. I also went to Thailand for two weeks this summer, so trust my frame of reference!
A little slow but delicious!
Great flavors.
Great food!!
There was a bee flying around. I took a drink, menu and killed it. The bee was very disruptive to many diners. After the bee was gone it was much better.
Nice Thai Restuarant
I went to this place a few days ago and I have to say their food is amazing! I ordered the pumpkin curry and it was the best curry I have ever had (I am a HUGE fan of curry). The restaurant was clean and our waiter was so nice. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a tasty bite to eat.
Great food and great Prices!
Great
I haven't gone anywhere else with such a great brown sauce for pad see ew.
The best hole in the wall Thai place I've ever eaten at.
The Ambrosia chicken is my go to.
Food is awesome, service was fantastic
Great food!!
Relaxed, not rushed, authentic feel, visiting from out of town. Love it, flavors are spot on, the flavors take me back to moms cooking in Thailand.
Love this place!
Best Thai food in Des Moines
Not sure if we came on a bad day or what but this was our first experience here and we have always wanted to try it. But the waitress was training a new employee so when we walked in we were yelled at across the room if it was for here or to go. Obviously it came off as really unsettling but we proceeded to go along with it and sit down. The waitress never smiled and never spoke to us, even though we said thank you everytime she brought us something, unless it was a question about the menu and even so it felt as if we were keeping her from something or just a plain nuisance. We came earlier than the lunch rush and ordered our food before everyone started filling into the restaurant, I noticed the waitress acknowledged 'regulars' and was nice to them but not to anyone else. The food took longer than it should have in my opinion, since there was only two other people in there at the time our orders got sent back to the kitchen. Overall the taste and flavor was good, I got the Pad Thai, no complaints. Besides the length of getting the food our waitress never came back until we had to catch her for the check in which when we paid, she brought it back as she walked by never saying anything to us. Frankly we shouldn't have even left a tip because it may only encourage the waitress to treat new customers the same way. As we left it felt as if we weren't wanted there in the first place and didn't leave satisfied. Everyone has their own standards and experiences but this one fell short of everything, perhaps we will try it again sometime - maybe take-away.
Very good drunken noodles. If you like heat go 4 or higher on the spice level.
Great food and service
If I could buy their Tom Yum by the gallon I would. Everything is always fresh and delicious. Be prepared for a wait unless you get there when the doors open but you won't be disappointed!
Good thai food. I only get the pad thai but it's delicious.
First time here. Wife has been 3 times and has had good experiences. Got here at 11:15 on a Monday and walked out at 12:25. Way too long to wait for okay food. 14 tables in the restaurant and one server/worker. She was working all tables and answering phone and taking to go orders. Hot and sour soup was awful. Couldnt decide what it tasted like, but it was not good. I am not a picky person at all but didnt care for the soup or Sesame chicken. Maybe my taste buds were off but it tasted like the chicken was tossed in dirt. The only reason I am giving two stars is because my wife has not had a bad experience here. She likes the food. In summary...too long of a wait for below average food. Seems like a popular place. May try again. Need to hire additional wait staff. Most working people cant take an hour and a half lunch
Very slow, over an hour and was server Ed one person at a time. Food was good but not worth the wait. May try again but will will some time.
Probably not the best place for a quick lunch break. Took 45 minutes to get entrees. Server couldn't be bothered, no apology, no thank you. Food was okay, nothing out of this world.
Nothing to write home about. I got a level 2 spicy on my pad Thai because I'm a sissy. It wasnt spicy at all. The summer rolls were ok but could be better with half the lettuce. I dined alone and the server seemed to have forgotten about me. I ended up asking another guy in the store for a box and the check. Overall I would try it again but I would make different choices on food.
Food is good. Would appreciate some effort made on customer service. Misquoting wait times for to-go orders can cause delays for many customers who have limited lunch time available and use those wait times as a guide. We do not want to wait 30-60 minutes after our food was scheduled to be ready for pick up. We always order to go because we don’t have time to wait at the restaurant. It’s a small joint, but understaffed for the amount of to-go orders that go out the door. Would love a delivery option if more staff were available to help.
This was one of the best tie restaurants I’ve been to. The customer service was awesome. The price can’t be beat. I will definitely be eating here again.
Mediocre food, long wait, rude customer service.
Zuzap is the best Thai restaurant I have ever been to! Their curry is super thick and creamy, very much real and not watered down coconut milk. The Tom kha soup is delicious. They give you the option of noodles or rice with the curry, try the rice noodles for something different, I love them! Their lunch special is an INSANELY GOOD DEAL!!! Includes appetizer, soup, main dish, and drink! Zuzap is the place to eat!!!
Always great, I've tried about everything and it's all good with good service
The Thai tea, super good. Papaya salad, very close to how my auntie makes it... that alone makes me want to come back for more. I warned my brother from another mother, start with a small bite... too late, the spice nearly killed him, bc he thought it was like other Asian restaurants that 'weaken' the spice level for the milder American palate... nope, homestyle, the spice will burn you and linger nicely. We also has a seafood noodle stir fry, so good, the scallop, the shrimp, and mussel, were all cooked perfect.
Their green curry is excellent!
Poor customer service. Harsh communication.
11:30 lunch time, food was great, service was fast - make sure to get here early, to avoid the noon lunch rush, or it might take longer than expected!
The variety of selections as well as the flavors make this restaurant amazing!
Great lunch menu, Clean dining area friendly employees.
Bad and very slow service. Just as great food elsewhere with awesome customer service. Not coming back here again.
The house fried rice is excellent
Food was awesome, service was slow, weekday lunch was 90 minutes...
It is a small, hole in the wall type of place. I didn’t expect much, but I was very pleasantly surprised. The food is fantastic and very cheap. The service and ambiance aren’t up to fine dining standards, but if you only care about the food, you won’t be disappointed.
Good food but slow service
Tasty food and so many choices! Service was fast and friendly - highly recommend this restaurant for yummy Thai/Asian cuisine!
My new favorite thai restaurant. The best part is that it's close to home. The staff are always pleasant with great food!
Best Thai food in the area
I love the food, especially the hot and sour soup. However I do have a small complaint. The web page says "WE DELIVER" - so I was excited to enjoy some Tai food while working in the office on a Saturday. Only they fail to mention delivery hours are only for the evening shift that starts at 5. Big time bummer - So now I'll have to order somewhere else.
Taste good. Good value. Wish they had better service
The must eat thai place very consistent with the taste
