Owners are super nice. They were only serving takeout, and were incredibly busy. We were from out of town, and they let us dine in. We waited a considerable amount of time for our food due to the backlog of orders they had, but the took care of us, gave us a free appetizer and made us feel welcome. Super authentic Thai cooking. Highly recommend. If you're in town, definitely check this out.
I from Thailand just come visiting some old friend living in Chicago and We drove all the way from downtown Chicago IL we have Pad Thai shrimp, Penang Curry Chicken and Chef Special Sushi roll wrapped with cucumber. Absolutely Kin Khao Thai and Sushi is the best Authentic Thai food by far.
Hands-down the best Thai food around; I've never had better curry in my life than I have had here. The combination of spice and flavor is simply unmatched, so if you can handle it, I would highly recommend the 5/5 spice. There are a good number of vegetarian options on the menu here, and the portion sizes are large enough to not feel hungry when leaving, but not so large that you're miserable and rolling out the door. The staff are super friendly here too, which just adds to the appeal of return visits. Any time I'm in the area, I try to stop by!
The place has fantastic food. It a very wonderful atmosphere. The owner made great recommendations on what to order. The cook was superb! I'll be back again. The Pad Ki Mao was absolutely delicious 😋
Not impressed with this place. First off one server for the entire place. He was not efficient either. Did not get or drink order until he came to take our food order.
I got the basil fried rice. I might have seen two pieces of basil in the dish and I did not taste any basil.
I like basil and want to taste it in my food.
They were out of chicken too. No mention of that until you’re seated and order it. Chicken is a popular dish, might want to let folks know right away.
I tried it but I would not go back. That’s my two cents.
I didn’t know that this small restaurant existed until a friend recommended that I come here for supper. It’s part of a small and quiet strip mall near the railroad tracks and doesn’t stand out much from the road. However, the food here is of standout quality and a robustness of fresh, flavorful dishes. Very unexpected great find. The guy serving me (Richard) is a class act. A clean and homey feel to the interior with a few tables and very busy with takeout orders. I tried their Fried Pot Stickers (appetizer) and Mongolian Beef (main). Excellent. Wanna break away from the mundane? Come try Kin Khao Thai.
This is a wonderful family centric Thai place that serves deliciously authentic taste food. It is run by a small staff, but I always get genuine smiles, flavorful food, and enough variety to keep me excited to come back. The standard pad Thai is great but I highly recommend the crispy duck or the sea bass if you like fish because it’s fantastic. They have a Thai bento that makes a wonderful light lunch with a Thai twist. The wait is realistic for a small staff, and I’ve seen many order ahead and pick up carry out while the restaurant is bustling with activity. I highly recommend this place for a taste of Thailand. It’s worth the wait but if you can’t, definitely order take out for some flavor on go.
Calling the food delicious is an understatement for this pleasant dining establishment. The Curry Penang was mouthwatering with layered flavor from spice mix and a perfectly creamy texture. Pad Thai also surprised my palate- stir fried rice noodles were delightfully chewy and coated with fragrant herbal aroma. The service at this family owned was warm and welcoming, just like the comforting food.
Came for the first time and shared the Pad See Eiw lunch special & a bowl of Tom Kha. It was plenty of food for 2 people & a good price. The service was great & the food PHENOMENAL. We will for sure be back soon!
The place has fantastic food. It a very wonderful atmosphere. The owner made great recommendations on what to order. The cook was superb! I'll be back again. The Pad Ki Mao was absolutely delicious 😋
Great service, great food, great experience. Thanks, Richard. We'll be back.
Online it said one price it also said they were open at noon. Us and two other cars were waiting we all left at about 12:12 because they weren't open nor was their signs that anyone was going to be there.
The dish we ordered was supposed to be 14. It was 17.47. underground somewhere else had I known it was going to be that pricey.
It was good but definitely not worth $17
I just want to give some appreciation to them! I ordered online a Pho (not feeling well and comfort food) and left to go grab it. I didn’t realize once I got there they were closed. I was just going to count it as a loss and go home, no worries. However, a gentleman came by and said what happened, water leak, and they were cleaning up. I stated I was so sorry and I didn’t realize since I placed something. He asked what I ordered and went inside to see if they could make it. And they did!
Extremely grateful and I appreciate their kindness. They could have not offered it and I would have been perfectly fine with that. But I really thank them for doing this. If you in Valpo and never tried Kin Khao. Please do! And bless them for their kindness.
Best Thai food in town, by far. Great flavor and I really appreciate all of the fresh vegetables they add in their curries.
One of the best Thai that we have had, and the gentleman that served us was really nice, my husband and I are really glad that we went there :)
Owners are super nice. They were only serving takeout, and were incredibly busy. We were from out of town, and they let us dine in. I highly recommend Kin Khao Thai and Sushi—easily one of the best Thai dining experiences I’ve had in the U.S.
Disappointing Experience at Kin Khao Thai and Sushi Bar
As a longtime patron of Kin Khao Thai and Sushi Bar, I am deeply disappointed by the decline in quality since their move to a new location.
Previously, Kin Khao was a standout among Thai restaurants in the area, rivaling even those in Chicago. However, recent visits have left much to be desired.
Upon revisiting after the move, I immediately noticed a decrease in portion sizes. What was once generous servings of Chicken Satay and Red Curry now seemed sparse, signaling a concerning trend of shrinkflation. Despite this, I was willing to overlook it if the flavors remained intact.
Unfortunately, my most recent visit shattered any remaining hope. The Chicken Satay, once grilled to perfection, now seemed hastily fried and lacked the distinctive flavor I had come to expect. Moreover, the temperature of the dishes upon arrival was concerning, with some items arriving cold despite a short commute home.
The Red Curry, previously a highlight of the menu, now bore a disconcerting sweetness reminiscent of a Chinese buffet rather than the authentic Thai flavors I cherished. Disappointed, I found myself discarding the entire dish.
Similarly, the Pad Thai, ordered with extra vegetables and egg, arrived lacking in both quantity and flavor. With minimal toppings and a noticeable absence of key ingredients like fish sauce, it fell far short of expectations.
Even the Panang Curry with tofu, once a reliable favorite, suffered from limp tofu and lackluster presentation. The dish seemed hastily prepared and lacked the depth of flavor that had once made it a standout choice.
To add insult to injury, the bill for this disappointing experience amounted to $125.07, a significant investment for a meal that ultimately ended up in the trash.
As a longtime supporter of Kin Khao Thai and Sushi Bar, it pains me to write this review. However, I hope that by sharing my experience, the restaurant can take steps to address these issues and reclaim its former glory. I may give it one last chance in the hopes of improvement, but until then, I cannot recommend it as I once did.
Here is my former post:
The most authentic Thai in the area. I always get the red curry with pork and have never been disappointed. Pad Thai is outstanding and enough for two. Thanks Kim Khao for opening up here!
2020-12-19. Placed an online order, great and intuitive interface. BUT the real story is, again, truly outstanding food period, and incredible Thai food!
If you do not like this food after eating here, then you do not like real Thai food! I was very happy to be able to travel back to Thailand enjoying this meal.
100 % Authentic Thai food. Wonderful! Excellent flavors, healthy and filling. If you want to learn what Thai food tastes like, or travel back from a vacation, come here.. it is worth driving an hour or two for!
Sushi was great. Service was polite and quick.
The food tastes delicious. Depending on the day, the service can be a little slow. Honestly, the food is worth it; just don't go when you have a time crunch.
Beautiful food, great options and management and staff super friendly, clean and Inviting (hidden Valpo gem)
Not my favorite Thai anymore. Kept going back and trying but the wait is always longer than you think and the food is just…fine. Over-spiced and the miso was mostly broth. Just sad because we used to love this place before it moved!
Great food. Huge portions at reasonable prices. Huge menu selection.
It's small little place but so so worth it. Very delicious and authentic. We got a chance to chat with the owner. They grow all thier own produce, that care was very evident in the flavor. 100% recommend!
YES YES YES! FINALLY! Been craving Pad thai and couldn't find a place. Now I know where to go! Definitely will be trying other dishes. Crab Rangoons and vegetable fried spring roll were great also.
Quaint little mom and pop place. Good fresh food. Decor is much better than their old place.
It was my first time having Thai food and was tempted to order fried rice, but the man recommended the Pad Thai for a first-timer and I was NOT disappointed. My husband loved his sushi and the egg rolls. The location isn't fancy being next to storage units, but the inside is a lovely atmosphere. It seems family owned and tastes high-quality. Try it out!
love working here it’s a very special place, with amazing thai and sushi to eat as well!!
Found this little gem right here in NWI! It's nice that the chef is legit Thai - so you're getting authentic dishes! Gentleman on sushi did a fine job as well. I'll be back!
Hands-down the best Thai food around; I've never had better curry in my life than I have had here. The combination of spice and flavor is simply unmatched, so if you can handle it, I would highly recommend the 5/5 spice. Great people / great place to eat
The food was amazing, and portion sizes were big.. loved the food. They have a lot of vegetarian options too.
Came in embarrassingly close to closing time yet were accepted with open arms, so to speak. I have never had such a fresh asian cuisine meal. Seriously. EXTREMELY FRESH vegetables. Fantastic appetizers and even better entrees. Get into this place before they're reservation only.
A hidden gem. High quality food for reasonable prices.
Kin Khao is a must for anyone in Valpo who likes Thai and sushi.
The fish is always fresh and high-quality, making for delectable sushi.
I also highly recommend the fried rice lunch special.
Finally, their appetisers are equally impressive; I myself enjoyed the seaweed salad.
Was incredibly flavorful and delicious. So much so that we actually went back two days in a row while in town. The curry, pho and cashew chicken had multiple levels of flavor. As well as the owners being very inviting and friendly. Highly, highly recommended.
Best sushi ive ever had
So good
Food is delicious 😋
Everything I have tried has always been great .
Richard has always taken very good care me and explains any questions I have.
I highly recommend 👌
First time trying this place and I am SOOOO glad I stopped in. This was the best sushi spot I’ve ever had and I travel NWI to find good sushi spots. The shrimp shumai were juicy and super soft with a perfect shrimp crunch. The second was the crunchy shrimp roll. Perfect portioning and fresh fish. We then had the lobster roll which was by far THE BEST roll they have here. Presentation was amazing and taste was even better. They served each dish in courses which was nice. Mango sticky rice was amazing! Was unsure about the rice and mango but it was perfect! Only bad part of the whole experience was it was HOT in the restaurant like there was no AC.
BEST FOOD IN VALPARAISO!
Ordered take out, 2 orders of pad Thai. Best in the area, I was very very impressed. Will be back again!!
Good selection and the food is phenomenal!! First time here and we will be back. Give yourself time to dine and the wait is worth it
Very Americanized unauthentic. Oily, mild. Bangkok Thai and sushi is much better
Amazing home cooked Thai food. Absolutely delicious. One of my famiky members said it was the best Thai food she had ever had and she was seriously tempted to lick her plate clean. Lovely people who run it - the kind of people you want to support and see succeed. Don't live in Valparaiso but will definitely eat here when I come back!
Not impressed with this place. First off one server for the entire place. He was not efficient either. Did not get or drink order until he came to take our food order.
I got the basil fried rice. I might have seen two pieces of basil in the dish and I did not taste any basil.

I tried it but I would not go back. That’s my two cents.
I absolutely love that this small establishment is family owned and operated! I will gladly wait a little longer for my food to be prepared knowing they have a limited kitchen staff because everything I have had from here has been delicious!!
This is my first visit. The food is fresh and served quickly. Sushi was rolled expertly ( tight and not falling apart) and the pad see ew sauce was so flavorful with the right amount of sweetness. Veggies were bright and crisp.
Was so excited to see they came back and finally got around to going for a birthday dinner. It is a different level of cuisine in town. I would put Meditrina and Kin Khao at the top of my list. They obviously make everything fresh to order and you can absolutely taste it. From tea to soup to pad Thai to curry. It’s just absolutely delicious. The sushi was very fresh and I maintain it’s the best in porter county. Go in expecting to wait a little longer than some premade “high end” food and leave being glad you did. Can’t wait to go back!
Great service! Amazing food!
Unfortunately when my girlfriends and I went here, they were out of 3 options that we wanted to order. Kind of disappointing when not one but three of the things you wanted were not available. Our food also came out at different times, my one friend got her food right away, then another one got her plate, then another, then another.
There were also kids running around, I’m not sure if it was the owners kids or not, but it was bothersome. For spending the amount that we did, I suppose we expected a better atmosphere.
The food itself was good but service was lacking. Next time we eat here we will be ordering to-go.
Like I said, the food that was available was great, but eating inside is something we will not be doing.
Over 1.5 wait for a take out order that said it would be ready in 40 mins. Ran out of crab Rangoons? Honestly, not worth the wait or the poor management.
Tuna 5 stars!!! The food is Fresh! Red curry Amazing. The Best Sushi! I have to eat here 2x's a week. I feel like family! A hidden 💎.
Ordered pineapple fried rice for takeout. It was prepared very quickly and still piping hot by the time I got back home to eat it.
It was pretty busy (late Friday afternoon), but the server was working very hard and fast to make sure everyone was attended to. He was very nice. There isn't a lot of waiting room inside, so if you get there before your food is ready you might be a little crowded.
There was also a live musician that really added to the ambience.
All the other meals and sushi rolls brought out to other customers while I was waiting looked delicious too. Id happily return to try other things
A great thai restaurant! Authentic Thai great vibes
I ordered takeout. It was absolutely fabulous. It’s apparent that this is a family restaurant and a lot of love goes into the food. Will definitely return the next time I’m in Valparaiso!
Yes, their food tastes good. But the prices are high and a dish does not come with a lot of food or meat. After eating dinner there, both my wife and I went home and raided the fridge because we were both still hungry. My wife is petite and doesn't eat a lot. Also, the service is extremely slow. We waited 1.5 hours to get our food. And what did the owner have to say to us when the food finally arrived? With a sly smile on his face he explained that this was normal and it took so long because they were busy and so popular. It was like he was proud of the 90 minute wait.
Then, another person in our party asked to substitute all bean sprouts for all mixed vegetables. They did that but charged extra without telling us. At least communicate your policies.
Finally, the place is small, which by itself doesn't matter, but they had live music...a guy playing the guitar. That might have been nice too, but he had an amplifier and played so loudly that we couldn't have a conversation at our table.
I'm not willing to pay those prices for a meal that doesn't fill you up, not to mention the long wait time and inability to have a conversation.
Had an amazing salmon roll a couple days ago. All of the staff was nice and what looks to be the owner is engaged in day to day operations. Place is clean, food is fresh, I will be returning!
Incredible food, all homemade, with fantastic service.
Food was great! I'll definitely be a regular
Delicious food and excellent service! If I lived in the area I would go here often.
Always a great experience..food is phenomenal
I lived in Thailand so I’m pretty picky about Thai food. I’ve had a variety of the dishes and never been disappointed with the quality or freshness of my meal. The service can take a bit long sometimes but like I said, I lived in Thailand, so it reminds me of being back there. The family that owns it is delightful. Highly recommend!
Kin Khao Thai is phenomenal. I'm so glad it is walking distance and will be returning again and again. A good place for a date or a small family meal during the week. I recommend the phat phrik khing with chicken.
The very best! Hands down!
New location is wonderful! Love the decor.
Crab Rangoon, Dumplings, & Pot Stickers are nothing short of amazing. The curry had a combination of pineapple and potatoes that was out of this world. We went for a make up Valentine's date and it didn't disappoint! Richard is awesome!
The greatest Thai food around. I’ve been to many places in and around Chicagoland and this is the place I drive to. Owner is very friendly and the food is outstanding.
Delicious green curry with pork and pad see ew with chicken. The vegetables were very fresh and the sauces were excellent. The curry was level 2 spiciness, (on a scale of 5) and it packed some serious heat. So, take note of you like your dishes on the milder side.
The food here is always great and fairly priced. I'm a sucker for a shrimp Pad Thai and they always deliver at Kin Khao. The owner waited on me and was very nice and super friendly. I was wearing a t-shirt with a Sriracha bottle on it, and he complimented my shirt and even warned me to stay away from Sriracha bottles that don't have a green cap because they're not genuine (lol). He also joked around with me, after I ordered the Pad Thai without bean sprouts, he came by and took back one of my plates and said "your Pad Thai with EXTRA sprouts is almost ready!" That got a chuckle out of me.
All in all, very friendly owners, great food, and a nice open dining area. I wish these guys had more traffic, I know they're in a weird spot by the self storage near the railroad tracks, but if you're ever in the mood for some good Thai, it's definitely worth it.
Costumer service was just as good as the food. 10/10
Love this place! Flavorful, great portions and you're greeted like they genuinely appreciate your business. If you're looking for great pad Thai, or some spicy green curry on a cold day, this is your spot!
I absolutely love the garlic chicken here. The Chai coffee and tea are a big favorite of mine here also.
I smelled something like sewer had to leave. I don't know what it was, I didnt ask
TL/DR: You Can Teleport to Thailand from Valpo (review of Kin Khao)
——
Craving authentic Thai food, but don’t want to head to the airport? Look no further and head over to Kin Khao.
After doing some errands locally, we had a need for some bright flavors to counteract the gloomy moods that winter brings. Since moving to sleepier NW Indiana from downtown Chicago, I’ve always had a void of good Thai and general Asian food.
I didn’t look at the reviews beforehand, due to this being my friend’s turn to pick a lunch spot, and she frequented their former location a few years back.
After we were seated, we ask the server a few general questions, specifically about their ‘heat scale’, which was on a 1-5 scale. One of his first responses was that they use authentic chillies that are grown in the owner’s garden, and that the owner/chef is from Thailand, and the Spice Scale is reflective of actual Thai standards, which is too spicy for the average American. My initial skepticism started to quickly unravel, as my Thai extended family members in Chicago always complain how Thai food is too ‘sugary’ stateside.
We order a Shrimp Shumai to start, and both order the Green Curry lunch specials.
I anticipated getting the conventional well-known premade/frozen shumai, but was throughly impressed when the server brought out fresh ones. At first bite, the flavors hit like a firecracker. These were actually made from scratch. This was REAL Thai food. 95% of any Asian restaurants that we’ve eaten at don’t even bother with making their own dumplings, due to the frozen ones actually being ‘good enough’.
I also wanted to add more heat, and asked for some Sriracha or chili sauce. I expected a bottle of sriracha to come out as they typically do, but the server brought a small cup of chili sauce. The color was brighter, which made me think ‘oh good, freshly opened bottle’. After tasting it, I was shocked again- the sauce was homemade. Again, most restaurants do NOT go this length, as Sriracha is to Chili Sauce as Kleenex is to Tissues. Run-of-the-mill Asian restaurants in the Midwest don’t need to go this extra length, but they once again over-delivered on another small detail.
The server confirms to me that nearly everything is made in-house, and I finally believe him.
Next, we both were served our Green Curries, one at heat scale of 3 and the other at 4 (2 is their baseline).
The presentation, size, ingredient quality, and flavor were immaculate. My friend was shocked to see the portion size and the amount of protein on her dish, and I was delighted with the virdant colors of the curry and vibrancy of the vegetables. The spice level was perfect for us, but it’s certainly not for the faint of heart. This is not-your-average Thai, this is the real deal.
After being blown away for the 3rd time, the chef/owner came out and asked us how everything was. The only thing that I could say was Thank You, but in Thai, as I knew that she would appreciate it so much more. She thanked me back in Thai without skipping a beat, and chatted with us for a good while, about some turmoils regarding their relocation. This woman is a marvel, and needs to be protected at all costs. Her restaurant is a cozy culinary portal to Thailand, which makes these miserable Midwest winters manageable.
We ended our journey with a Thai Iced Tea and Thai Iced Coffee, both home-brewed and oh-so-good. Truly a bittersweet way to start our journey back home.
✨Final verdict: 4.9/5✨
We’ll be coming back at least weekly now, and would love to see some type of Liquor License here (especially BYOB) in the foreseeable future. An ice-cold Singha would have made this a true 5/5 for me.
P.S. to all who disregard their spice level, order something too spicy, and ask for a refund/remake- get a grip. The customer is NOT always right.
Had Pho for the first time here, absolutely delicious.
Food was served hot and quick, and the portions are insane.
Will go back.
Food is soo good here
I didn’t know that this small restaurant existed until a friend recommended that I come here for supper. The food here is amazing 👏. Authentic, delicious and spice levels to taste, without compromising the dish. Highly recommend!!!
Great PHO. All the meals everyone got said they were spectacular.
No Sushi, but everything else is so delicious you won't even care! Hidden 💎
This place is the best food in northwest Indiana. If you’re thinking about going here definitely go.
Excellent good and service!
Hidden gem in NW Indiana. Authentic Thai food which tastes as good as any we have had anywhere in the Chicagoland area. Everything we have eaten there has been top-notch in terms of quality fresh ingredients, taste and presentation. Service is great too. They will customize any dish to your spice preference (only ask for 4 or 5 if you can really handle a lot of heat! I have a high tolerance for spicy foods and 3 is about perfect).
Went in to order after I sat down, waitress came out, then another person told me that rice wouldn't be ready for 30 minutes. I got there. At 11:30 and they open it 11. I left, but in parking lot another told me they had five servings.
Highly recommend their curry! Food is excellent and inexpensive, service is great, and atmosphere is pretty decent but nothing special.
The service and food was excellent. The ingredients were fresh and tasty.
We love this place! Everyone is so warm and inviting and the food is to die for!
Always awesome and down right great people
Amazing food and phenomenal service! Highly recommended!
In love with the options here and the atmosphere. Definitely one of my favorite eats. Thank you! The Thai tea and coffee are phenomenal
Had to wait an extra 45 minutes for my take out. They kept pushing the time back as I was sitting waiting.
What a wonderful experience. We were not familiar with Thai food and received great care in helping us select our dinner. I will be a repeat customer. 5 star delicious 😋
The place was clean and had good light/decor, the tables weren't tight which is common in small start ups that want to maximize $$$ at the expense of experience. The biggest drawback was the bucket they needed out in the dining room because the roof leaks, which is a shame building owners feel like they don't need to maintain their buildings but charge Valparaiso real estate prices.
The food was perfect, really, everything was hot and tasted really good, the spice is no joke I would say #1 or #2 is good for 80-90% of patrons. Between my curry, my friends soup, and our appetizers, they didnt slack on anything. You can taste everything is handmade and fresh nothing came out of a bag here (or they fooled me).
The wait is what you'd expect for that quality. The service was fine too.
For a group of 4 we spent $120.00 but were celebrating you could get by spending $20/person if you're not big spending.
Authentic Thai food in an unexpected place. If you love Thai food this is the place to get it. I was told they use ingredients from their garden and I am not surprised. The chef has a perfect sense of balance so the spice doesn’t overwhelm the flavors in the dish. This is a challenge if you ask for a higher level of heat and spice. If you love Thai this is the place for you to try when passing through Valparaiso Indiana.
My families favorite restaurant! Authentic and excellent food accompanied by great service. You definitely do not want to miss out on this one!
Food was hot drinks were cold
Service took a little while
Fabulous fresh Thai food with great service.
My absolute favorite place to eat in Valpo- Kin Khao Thai and Sushi. Of all the excellent places to eat in Valpo, these folks bring so much quality and flavor. Great people running that joint. Glad they are reopened and their new location on Roosevelt is great!
Ordered two curries to go, one panang and another yellow. Both I set at a spice level 2 (btw this is a good amount of spice for someone who prefers medium spice level). I ordered the panang curry with tofu and the yellow with chicken. Both curries were excellent. I have had an hard time finding a good Thai restaurant since I moved to Indiana but this place does not disappoint! Feeling grateful to have found a new place to indulge in my Thai food cravings! Only feedback is that the panang had dried peas in it which had a strange texture and flavor.
Service was timely, restaurant clean and cheery, food was fresh and flavorful! Thank you for such a delightful meal to share with my family.
Extremely high quality fresh ingredients artfully served to perfection! Dishes tailored to your heat preference. Customer Service is impeccable. Everything hits on point. Must try!!
Kin Khao is one of Valparaiso's best restaurants. Their curry is outstanding, their noodle dishes and soups are delicious. Highly recommend this wonderful family owned restaurant where the food is made fresh and from scratch.
I truly enjoy coming here. I get the pad woodsen...it taste amazing if you like shrimp it's awesome.
We were so excited to visit again after they had been closed for so long. It was Friday before Labor Day, so we figured they would be busy. We went in to order to-go it was 6:30 pm. They were in the weeds, no problem...said my order would be ready at 8 pm. Wowzer...but... okay...we had some running to do anyway. Went back to get our food, and they apologized for the long wait... no worries! Got home to realize they forgot half our food. I called, and to my surprise, they answered and even delivered the forgotten food to my house in Chesterton. Super nice of them, they do seem to need more help for sure...but they made it as right as they could. Food was good, but not as crisp as before....but it was a warm night...so perhaps humidity was an issue.
This is the definition of a mom and pop shop. First off, with the sign of, “Marines Always Welcome” at the front entrance register desk, I immediately knew I was going to love this restaurant and its staff. Kin Khao is a family-ran restaurant with incredibly hard working and respectful staff. Hands down to the female Asian chef. Not only is she is an incredible chef but she is the sweetest person. She hand delivered her meals to each table. I ordered the Pad Thai with a 3 spice which was amazing with just the right kick. It could have easily been the best Pad Thai I’ve ever had. Almost everyone around me was ordering the curry, including a nearby customer saying it was the best curry they’ve ever had. I was bummed there was no sushi but this restaurant has my absolute most respect. I would definite recommend this restaurant and will absolutely return, although I would probably order it to go next time, as they were short staffed and I don’t want to bother the staff with having to wait on me. After being in search of a genuinely authentic Thai restaurant in Indiana, I have finally found the one 😊
Wonderful food!
The Thai food here taste just like my grandmothers cooking. If you like spicy authentic Thai cuisine, and supporting a local business. Look no further. Kin Khao is the best Thai restaurant in Valpo. Must try is the Thai chili sauce.
The food is amazing! I would wait an hour and a half to eat here. All the dishes are made with fresh ingredients and a real Thai chef. It's like actually being in Thailand. The atmosphere feels welcom and so is the service I received. Would recommend!
The best tai food in town
I ordered takeout. Especially liked the noodle dish and Mongolian beef. Very much appreciated the freshness and variety of vegetables and mushrooms. I was a little disappointed by the curries, Green and Penang, not as rich and flavorful as I am used to. Very reasonably priced and generous portions. I'll give them another try since they haven't been open long and may still find their footing.
Don’t really like to give a negative review but tonight I waited over 1.5 hours for some pad noodles. Didn’t even put in the requested tofu. Rangoon was cold. We still have Bangkok!
Lunch was delicious today. I ordered Pad Thai with chicken. Pad Thai with rice noodles which is great for gluten free diet choices. There are other lunch Thai lunch special choices which includes many curry entrees. Soon they will offer sushi. Just ask. Staff is super nice. They serve two veggie egg rolls came with your lunch entree. scrumptious! Cozy lunch. They serve dinner too. Excellent food and service. Will go back!
I've eaten here twice and the food is impeccable, simply delicious. But I was severely overcharged for my meal and they refused to do the math even after being caught. My 15.99 plate somehow became 27.99 after adding pork and a side of rice I didn't ask for.I believe something similar happened the first time as well but I just paid the $63 dollars without looking. Real fishy.
Amazing fresh food, friendly environment, great service, wholesome family owners. I love the phoa, sea bass, salmon, and ribeye. The hot tea is freshly made and a great way to way to wake up healthier!
After moving from Michigan about 6 years ago, I had not had good Thai in Indiana. I’ve tried just about every single place you could try in NWI Indiana and nothing quite attracted my attention to a Thai restaurant, until we tried this absolutely amazing establishment. The sheer quality and flavor of the food was impeccable. The decor is subtle yet nice to the eye. Starting from the appetizers with the order of chicken satay with their otherworldly peanut sauce that I haven’t tasted anything like since living in Michigan. The pineapple fried rice and pho were absolutely to die for, so much so that I began asking the owner about it, which he mentioned to me that all their spices that are used for the dishes are imported from Thailand for the truest taste of Thai cuisine. Another absolute must try is the coffee and tea, both of their flavors were among the best I’ve had. The coffee puts every other coffee shop in the area to shame. It looks as though you’re drinking a macchiato, but the flavor of the coffee by itself is perfect, and it also tastes amazing when mixed as well.
As a final note, if you’re looking for a Thai place that is as authentic as physically possible, look no further than Kin Khao Thai and Sushi. This place will become a frequented restaurant for me and I have a feeling anyone else who tries it will feel the same.
The food is really tasty. Portions are high quality but smallish. Ordered a spice 3 (out of 5) and it tested my heat limits, beware!
I ordered 3 curries for takeout this evening. While most would likely complain about a lengthy wait, I really have to commend Kin Khao. Reopening after months of uncertainty is daunting but having so many orders that they had to temporarily close off the dine in section is a whole different ball game. They did their best to keep up with orders, provide personal customer service, and communicate! I was given a complimentary Thai Tea while I was waiting and I was surprised with a complimentary order of delightful egg rolls once my order was complete. The folks at Kin Khao are fantastic and the Valpo Community definitely missed them while they were away! Give them a try even if you have to wait, I promise you won’t regret it.
Really enjoyed this special gem of a place. Will most definitely be back to try more of the menu!!
Best sushi in both porter and lake county.
Nice
Absolutely a delish experience! The Pineapple fried rice is amazing! Crispy Duck etc. And the portions are enough to take home and enjoy for lunch the next day😊. Can’t wait till they reopen in there new location! When is that going to happen? Please hurry lol
Thank you for always making my family’s favorite curry! We all miss it so much!
Do you have a date to open the new location?
My absolute favorite restaurant I love there chicken pad Thai so much. And they have the best crab Rangoon ever
So glad they found a new place. My wife loves their Basil Fried Rice and I enjoy their Yellow Curry. Simply the best. The high quality of the ingredients can't be beat and it shows in their recipes.
For my first time I would give this place a 10! The service is great. The food is awesome, me and my wife had pho soup and crab meat tempura. We found another great lunch spot in our neighborhood. Thank you
Found this place on the fly. Excellent food and service. Had Chicken Pad Thai and Sushi. Everything fresh tasting. I will be going back when I can.
A hidden gem in Valpo! Excellent service and food was top-notch. I highly recommend!
Great service. Nice staff
Best Pad Thai in the Region.
Absolutely delicious and the staff is always great.
Fresh and tasty food
We had the calamari appetizer, seafood garlic and pepper entree with level 4 heat and the sweet dream roll. It was absolutely delicious and the presentation was beautiful. I highly recommend this place!!!
My wife and I order from Kin Khoa a couple times a month. Food is very good till recently. The "heat" they use have levels. We have always order level 3. Recent order was so hot we couldn't eat it. I called and talked with someone that said "Ok." Really? We will give them another chance since we've always enjoyed their food.
Love the food sushi, specifically the mango rolls, plus the mango sticky rice is delicious
My sushi wasn't bad but the rice was rather sticky. Maybe caught them on a bad day.
Very friendly, great customer service!
Best curry I've ever had!
The Thai curry was wonderful. The spices were perfect and the portions were substantial. I would definitely dine here again.
Great food and nice staff. Best in the area for Thai food.
Love there food
The food was amazing and fresh. Even if you don't love Thai food. There are so many fresh amazing options. The food came much quicker than I would expect with everything being clearly fresh veg. Such a healthy option. I will be back.
Excellent Thai Food at a good price!
We love Kin Khao Thai! My husband and son love the Crispy Duck. I love everything I have tried at this yummy restaurant. The shrimp dumplings are to die for so try them.
Fantastic Fresh Spring Rolls and great Pad Thai - had Sushi a few months ago - good too - just cut a bit thick for true Japanese sushi which takes away from the flavor of the fish - when it is too thick it tastes fatty and like a blob... but other than that very good.
Never had a bad dish! Great place with fantastic food.
Amazing as always!!! Probably my favorite spot in town, the thai iced tea is to die for and a great compliment to a spicy dish. I had the pad thai with chicken at a level 4 today as my entrée and it may be my new favorite.
