I prefer to leave tips in cash. My mom left the tip on the table. Whenever I sign my receipt I put a line through the tip and write in the total bill amount. I signed the receipt and handed it back to the waiter who looks at the receipt and ask about a tip. I simply told her it was on the table. I did not like being asked about a tip as if I made a mistake.

The Pad Khing was a 4/5. The Khao Soi and papaya salad were bland and not spicy enough. The Thai sampler is not worth the price, in my opinion.

Very small portion, I ordered duck meat, fried to dry, lots of skin and fat. I had such dish long ago, it was pure meat, no fat on it. With that good impression, I went back, but this time the horrible fatty dish made me don’t want to go to this restaurant again! I also had tofu soup this time, clear soup with few pieces tofu costed $5, not worth it!!!

Went here for dinner tonight with my mom, and it was absolutely delicious. Exactly what I was craving. I had the chicken pad Thai, and my mom had chicken satay with fried rice. Finally tried this place after reading so much hype - worst panang curry ive had in a long time. Just watery and gross, barely any panang flavor you can taste the tap water it was boiled in, kitchen doesnt know what its doing just disgusting. Go to Tasty Thai, save yourself.

Happy to revise an old review. Green Basil’s service has definitely improved. Their servers are back to being warm, friendly and attentive. My favorites on the menu are the chili pepper wontons, the tom kha and Tom Yum soups and the Pad See Ew.

*OLD*I could also easily give a 3 stars some days for this restaurant. I ate here at lunch about a month ago and was pretty happy with their food and service, then ate here again for dinner a couple of days ago and it’s like I went to 2 different restaurants! Their pad thai was blah and came out cold, the pad see ew was ok, and the crying tiger was overcooked and flavorless. Again, so different from our experience with the lunch. The only thing I consistently like is their tom kha. I hope they get better because we so lack good thai food in the area.

I have been going to GB for few years now and food quality as good if not better the first day I was there. Service folks are always friendly. I recommend trying Seafood Rangoon, simply the best in Chicago.

Used to be one of the go to places for a while. However in the last few visits over several months to an year we realized that they seemingly cut down on the portion size significantly.
Drunken noodles used to come with reasonable amount of noodles. Last time they gave rice along with it just to prop up the noodles portion size. If one wanted rice one would choose a rice dish

Green Basil is always good. On this particular visit, I had Tom Kha soup with chicken and Pad See Ew with chicken. It is all bright, fresh and flavorful. The lunch service is quick.

Frequent visitor of this restaurant. Always order the Chicken Basil Fried Rice which is the best I’ve tried. Pad See Iew also good. My favorite appetizer is the Chicken Satay which is amazing and big with delicious peanut sauce. Staff is very nice and accommodative and food comes out relatively quickly.

My experience here was mostly good. I would have given a 5 star but there were a few discrepancies. My son and I ordered panang specialties with no peppers add Chinese broccoli. Our food came out in a timely manner and was cooked well but my son’s dish came out with peppers. We also had to ask for more water. Otherwise the food was delicious.

Today at 3PM, Visited the facility to order Yellow Curry, Basis Fried Rice , Rack of Lamb with a small drink ( brandy). The order taking process was a little messy, but thats fine.

Ordered a brandy small and got charged $14 for Korbel brandy ( a 750 ML cost $12 dollars) - I asked if that was a mistake for a small brandy - I get an answer that Brandy is expensive..

Yellow curry was so pale with lot of turmeric / yellow paste flavor. The Basis fried rice had more beans than rice ( looks like they are saving rice) & taste.

Great authentic thai restaurant. I’ve eaten here many times with my coworkers, can’t believe I haven’t left a review. The service is always friendly. My favorite here is the Green Basil Duck, the duck skin is crispy but the meat is juicy and tender, and the sauce is just the perfect amount of spiciness, you can taste the fresh ingredients in it. Other favorite dishes of course are the pad woon sen and pad see eiw, and chicken satay. Sometimes we just come to eat the thai sampler appetizer and just sit on the bar and try their mix cocktails. The environment’s just perfect for a nice relaxing lunch/dinner.

What an absolute gem! I don't live in the area and I chanced upon this spot by accident while passing through.
Walking inside I was surprised by how lovely the restaurant is. Many steps up from most of the more casual Thai restaurants I've been to. Such a great atmosphere and comfortable setting.
I was greeted right away and sat without waiting. Service was excellent, quick and friendly. I found the selection of the menu and the full bar to be terrific.
Now all that is great but obviously the food is the most important thing. The crab cakes appetizer was terrific followed with authentic green curry. I've had green curry in about 50 different places around the world, and this was right up there in my favorites. I'm sure everyone has their own preference, but I loved it.
Don't be fooled by the small store front, inside is wonderful. I hope I find myself in the area again for an opportunity to try more of the menu.

One of the worst foods I ever tried. It was takeout and the pad see eu felt like dats old. And the spicy catfish was spicy but without any flavor.

Stopped in for a bite with my wife. It was really busy for a Tuesday night. Lots of families celebrating and enjoying the cuisine.
We had the Sampler Plate for an appetizer…good portions of perfectly fried and steamed dumplings, egg rolls and other Asian delicacies. If you get a starter, know that you’ll be taking some of your dinner entrees home for the next day’s lunch.

Our entrees arrived just as we were finishing our second glass of hot tea…perfectly timed. My beef salad was tender, marinated in a light citrusy vinaigrette with crisp lettuce and fresh vegetables. My wife’s coconut curry chicken…excellent, as well, full of tender, spiced chicken in a rich, coconut green curry sauce and basmati rice. Huge portion…really enjoyed the sampler, and enjoyed the leftover curry chicken for lunch the next day. I was the envy of the lunchroom!

The owner and his wife were hustling, but generously took the time to thank us for dining with them. Such nice workers and on-point customer service. Most places are so understaffed lately—-not evident here as the waitstaff didn’t miss a beat!

With it getting colder, stop in and dine, but get some soup to take home for the next day’s lunch. The spicier the better, to keep the Cooties and Jack Frost away! Definitely a great meal and experience in Vernon Hills.

I can’t wait until springtime to enjoy a skillfully made cocktail and some great food on their spacious patio! For now, I’ll settle for carry out on a cold night! The wife definitely will be up for the rich and savory curried chicken!

Ordered from here bc of shortest delivery time. Egg Rolls & Chicken Pad Thai - 1/10. Absolute waste of money. Both items were gross, didn’t even finish.

Gave me the wrong food ordered though Uber Eats and refused to exchange it for what I paid for before I even left the store! The woman at the counter was SO RUDE and came within a foot from my face, saying firmly that I should have called directly to place my order and there wouldn’t have been any mistakes then. Why offer on Uber eats platform if you won’t support customers who order through there? This woman was SO DISRESPECTFUL and did not change the order to the correct food even though it was the kitchen’s fault. I will NEVER go back. Just found out the person who got within a few inches from my face when she raised her voice to me was the manager! How embarrassing for this establishment. Her name was Maem. She would be terminated for her actions if she worked for my business.

I ordered Drunken Noodle lunch special "Thai spicy" with chicken and extra mixed vegetables.

I arrived a bit before the estimated pick up time and it was already ready; so that's good.

Spice level was severely lacking. I would honestly call it "medium" at best.

Flavor was very good. I especially liked the inclusion of water chestnuts.

Portion size was good. Enough for 1 meal; no leftovers.

I don't feel like I got the extra mixed vegetables, but I can't say for sure because I've never gotten the dish with just chicken. Because of that and lack of spiciness I wish I could give 3.5 stars.

ok, they got me. I ordered the drunken noodles as simply "spicy" this time; not Thai spicy. I ordered Papaya salad as Thai spicy. When I gave them my number they had my name so I guess I was in their system? Perhaps they have notes on you if you leave a Google review because the drunken noddles were INSANELY spicy. I have a good spice tolerance, (i can handle the top 2 hot sauces from Hot Ones) but this left my mouth ON FIRE and my eyes literally watering. The papaya salad (Thai spicy) was extremely tolerable.

I'm sorry I said your food wasn't spicy, ok? Or maybe Thai spicy isn't spicier than spicy? I just assumed that was the case because that's how it's listed on the website.

Very good Thai restaurant. All dishes can be made gluten free. Good portion sizes. Great spicy flavor no matter the heat level you like. Worth a try if you're in the area.

I have eaten in Green Basil many times and never was disappointed. I have recommended it to many previously. This time, we ordered a take out on Mother's Day. It was almost annoying to order on phone as my perfectly good credit card was not taken by their system. So, I had to use another credit card. While ordering, I had told not to put any meat, fish sauce or egg as we are vegetarians. Still, the Drunken Noodles had egg and some stinking fermented sauce! We had to throw it away! Other items were kind of bland and didn't have the usual good taste. So, disappointed to the say the least. May not odrer food from here anymore!

Doesn't look like much on the outside but it's a different elegant world on the inside. Large menu but l felt the food was too bland for me. I had wonton soup and my friend had beef and broccoli. I’m wondering if Green Basil has new management or I accidentally went to the wrong restaurant! My past few orders have been terrible and lacking, in quality and quantity. Green Basil was our go-to place for Thai food and we’ve patron this restaurant for years. Lately, what we’ve been getting has been subpar. The carry out container is half full, food unappetizing making the meal not worth the cost. I was upcharged for vegetables that I didn’t receive. When I called the restaurant to let them know, she made it that I didn’t know Asian food…(side note: I’m Asian). I understand that restaurants are making up their losses due to covid, but giving poor service and products aren’t going to retain their remaining patrons. We will not be coming back. No longer worth the money for poor quality food.

Green Basil is the best Thai food in the Lake Forest/Vernon Hills area. It is the only Thai place that does a Thai Hot that is hot enough. They are lovely people who make delicious meals and the takeout meals are a great portion size compared to other places. I would highly recommend the drunken noodles

We found this unassuming place while shopping at Whole Foods. We were pleasantly surprised at the great quality, service and social distancing protocols they have in place. We live in Wisconsin and make the trip twice a month to shop at Whole Foods, but also make it a point to enjoy a delicious lunch here everytime!! The menu is vast and appealing. You can't go wrong on any choice! Bon appetit!

The restaurant did not honor curbside pick up as advertised - they said they were too busy although a tip was included to compensate them for the trouble of having to step outside and the place was empty, so one star for customer service... Contrary to previous experience the food was greasy and the meat bits were tough/dry.
