Standard strip-mall spot serving up Thai dishes, plus a lunch buffet in a casual setting.
This place is so good and a nice surprise in the strip mall. I've come here a few times by myself just to have dinner and read, or work on things. It's such a cozy environment, and the food is so good. There's so much on the menu I'd love to try, and haven't yet, but the noodle dishes I've gotten in the past are some of the best. The staff is all so friendly, and the food always comes out pretty quick. I live on the south side, so don't make it here often, but when I'm in the neighborhood, it's always a favorite place to stop :)
I recently dined at Ruby of Siam, excited to experience their Thai cuisine, but left disappointed. The sardines salad, which I anticipated to be an authentic Thai style dish, turned out to be ordinary canned sardines, lacking the freshness and flavor I was looking forward to. Additionally, the satay skewers were tough to chew, not meeting the expectations of their normally tender and flavorful reputation. To add to the disappointment, a simple dish for my little nephew, scrambled eggs, was served burnt. This experience was far from what I hoped for from a restaurant that claims to offer authentic Thai cuisine.
I was very happy with Ruby of Siam! The service was very friendly, the food was fantastic, and the Thai ice tea is very authentic and great. I loved their serving dishes as well! We ordered a duck curry (which came in a duck shaped bowl and was stuffed to the brim with fresh, crunchy and colourful vegetables) and chicken pad Thai. The jasmine rice came in another lovely ornate bowl. I also love that they use toast for the checkout - I love the convenience of the app. We will definitely be back.
We had a good experience here at Ruby of Siam. The dining room booth was nice and cozy. We ordered the pad Thai noodle, and the drunken noodles, and sweet-and-sour chicken. Our entrées arrived quickly. Everything was hot and delicious. Our server was very nice and took good care of us. This place is conveniently located to the DoubleTree By Hilton across the road. Will be back!
I stopped by for lunch today and was thoroughly disappointed. I should disclose that I have been a long time customer of this location, but after today I will not be back.
The food was average, at best. I don't know if there have been recent changes to the cooking staff or what, but something is off. There was no flavor at all. The best thing about my lunch was the Thai tea which was sweet but delicious once I added a little water to it.
The sticking point for me today was he service. It was awful. There were 2 other tables in the restaurant besides me and the server was rushing me to finish my meal. I asked for a knife to cut the Crying Tiger (steak) that ordered and the server made it clear she annoyed that I was for something. She angrily brought things to my table and basically threw stuff onto the table.
When it was time to pay she didn't take my card from the table. I had to walk up to the front , give her my card (which she snatched from me) and stand there and wait for her to process my bill.
Once I paid the server looked at the gratuity, said something to her daughter in Thai, and pushed my leftovers to me in my face.
I have never been treated so poorly at a restaurant before and I will never return. I will also be sure to tell my friends and family to avoid this place at all costs!
This place is a joke, I specifically called and asked do you use fresh chili, yes we do. So i ordered the food and when i showed up to pick up the food I look right away and found chili powder. I confronted her she says we only use for stir fry not noodle dish. So then why didnt you tell me that on the phone? She played dumb as usual and didnt say anything. I hate this place they always screw something up. Here is a good look at the picture of the food that they made spicy!! Terrible work they just dumped chili powder on 1 side of the dish. By the way I AM THAI!! Never will I come back. ****After your Response.... I DID ask for fresh chili and recieved none. For reference? Both dishes were supposed to be super spicy with fresh chili!! And No you did not make it spicy. After reading your reviews, you never take any ownership that you screwed up. Besides what kind of pad thai is white I'm sorry but that is a disgrace, it should be brown to orange!!
TRY RUBY OF SIAM!!!
Don’t let any previous reviews deter you. I don’t recall they had the lunch special last time I was here. It’s fantastic! $15 includes drink, appetizer, soup or salad and an entree. Each of your four choices have MANY options to choose from.
The pic of the cucumber salad was after I started eating…sorry about that. Everything was great. That lime chicken appetizer was possibly my favorite part of the meal but the curry was first rate too!
Staff was quick and friendly. There wasn’t any music playing when I came in so the atmosphere was initially too quiet for me. Once other customers started arriving they played some soft non offensive music.
If you love Thai…GO! If you don’t know if you like Thai…TRY IT!!!

Delivered to my workplace and didn't come with any forks or napkins. Ordered medium spiciness, and it felt like someone poured lava directly on my food. Wasn't that enjoyable
Not returning. The sauce with the Pad See Ew was just too sweet!
The older waitress always having attitude with us. So this will be my last time come.
Loved the sticky mango rice!! Tom ka chicken was great as well. Really good lunch special.
Unpleasant in all aspects.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻Good Food and very fast cooking. Naja 😉✌🏻
Pretty ok Thai food. The buffet WAS a good deal and was a solid lunch choice. Miss it though
I enjoy this restaurant the food, staff and atmosphere is great.

I’ve eaten here for years. The food and prices are fantastic. My favorite Thai restaurant in Chicagoland.
I ordered the pad see lew (mild) and it was a delicious thick noodle, with a sweet brown sauce and broccoli! Ordered via Uber eats and was still piping hot by the time it got here and made fresh. Will be ordering again!
Best chicken Pad Thai in Skokie
Great food and a nice lunch combo menu.
Friendly staff!
Mostly return customers when we were there. That's always a good thing!!
Came here with friends for the first time. What I love most is when we walked in I could smell the spices and herbs they use. Everything smelled freshly cooked. We were well attended to throughout our meal and the food was really good! The shrimp wontons were very much overcooked until we couldn't even recognize the shrimp inside them. But our other food was delicious!

Came for lunch and got lunch special. My selection in kuded chicken satay, papaya salad, meatless Kari curry and hot green tea. My friend got fried rolls, veggies in peanot sauce and red curry with hit jasmine tea. The food was excellent nice portions of all things chosen from the lunch special menu. Very flavorful and fresh. Definitely will come back!!!
The food was hot and well packed for takeout. Staff checked me out very fast.
This is a lovely, cozy restaurant. Everyone here is very sweet and makes you feel like you’re at home. Our server, Mimi, was very helpful and let us know everything about Thai cuisine. Come on and bring your own beer! 😼😼😼
Ordered takeout pad Thai. Was good, didn’t take long to wait on it, and the place was nice inside. Easy
Food was delicious service was great
Nice place. Pad is good. Food is good. Crab sticks my kids fav.
I ordered Rama Chicken, which is chicken and broccoli with peanut sauce. The chicken and broccoli were good, but the peanut sauce was way too sweet and so excessive that it overwhelmed the dish and made it inedible. Fried pot stickers were extremely dry. Service was very bad. It felt like we were a bother, even though we asked for nothing other than ordering our food. They were not busy and were well staffed, so I am not sure why they seemed bothered with a table of customers in a nearly empty restaurant. My dishes also felt dirty and my dinner plate had bits of food dried on it.
Good good food and ambiance
I recently visited Ruby of Siam for a meal, opting for their Pad Thai and a Thai Tea. Despite the restaurant not being busy, with the staff managing only a few to-go orders, my experience was less than satisfactory. The Pad Thai presented was notably bland, lacking in the essential tamarind flavor and, contradictorily, overloaded with sugar. Seeking to add some spice to the dish, I requested powdered chili. However, when I politely asked for the complete set of condiments, the response from one of the staff members was unexpectedly rude. Her demeanor changed significantly, and she even whispered in Thai under her breath, despite no one else being in the restaurant. It was perplexing and disappointing to encounter such an attitude as a paying customer. Based on this experience, I am compelled to say that this was the worst Thai food I’ve ever had, and I have no intentions of returning.
A Skokie staple. My family has been going for a long time. I’ve been to Thailand and still find this place to be a great experience.

Pad Thai was a mystery, unconventional and heavy dose of sugar. All dishes were overwhelmingly sweet with the kitchen loading on sugar. Staff totally disregarded any feedback. Server stood behind me during order process. Weirdest Thai experience ever.
Nice place, big enough for 2 servers, yet there was only 1, too much work for her along, and waiting time is higher at certain time during meal. Food is good, authentic Thai cuisine. Lady home made chef and few assistants. Wish there is buffet 7 days a week.
We ordered pad thai with chicken. Small portion with a minimal amount of chicken. The soup was included, was mainly broth. The lunch special was 16.98. We felt ripped off, plate sizes were for a child. We left hungry. The bathroom was filthy. Will never return.
Byob
I ordered take out Tom yum soupe.
First of all was $15 for a soupe, second I got sick from that. Didn't feel the taste what it supouse to be.
Thank you, but no more.
Food is horrible.
We had a good experience here at Ruby of Siam. The dining room booth was nice and cozy. We ordered the pad Thai noodle, and the drunken noodles, and sweet-and-sour chicken. If there was a way to give 0 stars, that's exactly what we would do. The moment I ordered hot water. The server became rude. Ordered 2 different meals. Both were prepared in correctly and honestly the food was awful. Don't waste your money there are so many other places to go to
I had been here many years ago, but because of negative customer service experience, I decided not to come back, but today for some reason, I decided to come back and give it another try. This time I was greeted as I came in the door by a very lovely and friendly wait staff, her name was Yo and she was a very pleasant and customer oriented person. I decided to have the lunch buffet. The food was fresh and delicious! Over all I am very happy and satisfied with my experience today. I will surely return again!😁👍👍❤
I have been eating here for decades. I have always had great food. Yesterday, not so much. The angel wings were super greasy and stuffed with dark stringy chicken that bordered on not so fresh. I threw them away. The cucumber salad was non -descriptive and slimy, without the dressing! The green curry with eggplant ( there was zero eggplant) and chicken was dissapointing. The sticky rice was a hard lump rolled up in saran wrap. I used the rest room and it was disgusting. There needs to be a deep clean of this restaurant. Dirty, dingy and clutter all over. Not crisp, not clean, not good. And very sad.
I always take out from Ruby of Siam. Probably go there twice a week. However the last few times they have been very rude and skimpy on the portions and just today they up charged my wife when she came to pick up the food. I love their Pad Thai but will have to find another place moving forward.
Mike
The gal waiting on us didn't seem to care about what I said. I've eaten shrimp my whole life and something was off with my shrimp. Also something was in the fried rice that tasted spicy and she had no idea.
Love this place for ordering and dine in.
My favorite crispy duck place
Food was good, but not always as described on the menu. Good service & colorful atmosphere. BYOB.
I was very happy with Ruby of Siam! The service was very friendly, the food was fantastic, and the Thai ice tea is very authentic and great. I loved their serving dishes as well! I ordered delivery with a delivery service and OMG, this is AMAZING! The Jungle Curry is spectacular!
Been coming here since I was in high school. Still the best thai food in chicago! Lime chicken and pad thai are my favorites (Bami pad see ew is a close second!)
Excellent food friendly server and well priced
Their lunch special is great! Choose an appetizer, a soup or salad, a main course and a dessert. Very tasty.
Our family has been coming to this local restaurant for a long time for get togethers. It's always consistently good food and good service.
TRY RUBY OF SIAM!!!

So good!!!
I often don't like using grub hub or Uber eats because it takes away profit from amazing restaurants like this. I just ordered grub hub delivery from here, and it was fantastic! Delivery food never tastes this good! I am so excited to come dine in.
*We had the steamed pot stickers, the chicken was unreal.
*The peanut chicken skewers were so authentic with small vinegar salad.
*Mango sticky rice for desert, was great... No one has this!!!
*Pad Thai, some of best I've had in this area- even good in a to go box
*Washed down with a great Thai tea :)
Thank you.
We ordered twice from here - vegetarian and non veg and both were very tasty. We plan on dining in soon.
Awesome place! Food was rich and service excellent!! Will come back again for sure. They have a big menu, so definitely trying more dishes..
Good selections and prices. Love the Tom Yum.
Nos gustó mucho , excelente atención, sabores y texturas de los alimentos en su punto su soup tom Yun reconforta ,los rollitos de camarón tiernos crocantes, comimos también noodles estuvieron delicious 😋
Warning: ignore how it looks because their roast duck dish is amazing! We also enjoyed the fish. The sauce on the cashew was not good. 5 stars for food. Its small, staff was rude and the people next to us were louder than the birthday party in the corner of the restaurant.
good food
Ordered carry-out of the Pad See Iew and it was absolutely delicious! Potstickers were very tasty too! Fast and very friendly service. Definitely would recommend!
Flavor was great. However, 3 pieces of shrimp is a bit low for a lunch special entree
Soon close down way over priced. Make sure to check your portion or price.
Used to be really good now reduced the portion by 40% for the same price. $20 for a small container of Penang curry. Can get the same old potion for $10.95 form any Thai restaurant close by. Will never go back.
Unfortunately no more buffet
Food was well spiced, served to temp and delicious. Serving sizes were great. All requests were honored. Pick up was easy.
Unsatisfied with the take out, beef was dry and salty. So sad
The menu was new to me even though I have been to many Thai restaurants before, I didn’t recognize some of their main courses or see some of the usual staples. The mango boba tea was sweet and delicious. The appetizer sampler platter was also very good but the spring rolls fell apart and the peanut sauce had a thicker texture. The cucumber salad wasn’t as fresh and seemed new to me as well with a pepper in it. We shared the number 65 which was very good. The chicken and pineapple with sweet peppers and onions was perfection. I’m so glad we stopped here to try something new. It was a spur of the moment during a thunderstorm decision and worked out very well.
We have been coming here for years. Excellent, fresh, delicious food, great service. It's not nearby, but every time I want Thai food, this is the place I go to. This is the best Thai food in the northwest suburbs.
We had the Angel Wings (chicken wings stuffed like eggrolls, battered, and deep-fried). The Pad Kratiam-Prikthai (beef + garlic) was probably the best I've ever had and the seafood soup (Poh Tak) was sublime.
The Som Tum (green papaya) is perfect
Highly recommended.
Lunch menu was great with 4 different dishes with various choices.
Good food .. Great service!
Made us wait 20 minutes to tell us that we have to wait another 30 minutes to eat because they have 5 orders.
Went there for lunch with a co-worker, on whim. We were extremely pleased with the service, the value and especially the food! Everything was fresh, authentic and very flavorful. I couldn't get enough of their Tom Yum soup! Don't pass up this experience - you won't be disappointed
BEST Tum yum soup
Authentic and delicious.
Not sure why they have bad ratings. Everything here tastes delicious. My favorite is lemon chicken and Curry chicken fried rice. Lunch special for $14.99 is worth and fulfilling. I will definitely come back for the freshness of the food, great taste and the service. Lady POIE who served us is very friendly, polite and courteous. Please do support them.
Very disappointed with the quality and the take out service! The mango in our sticky rice & mango dessert was overripe and rotten in parts (of course they knew it was rotten, the they had to skin and slice it)! 😠 We were almost out the door and we had to come back for the missing drinks they said were all in the bags. Not worth the travel time and especially not the $166.00 we paid today! ** Owner responds with an outrageous LIE saying nobody ordered that dessert that day (we ordered 3). Now why would anybody take the time to review, fib and stage a photo of the dessert?? Here is a copy of the charged amount we paid that day posted on the 27th since the 25th was a Saturday. New stock mango does not mean they're free from rot or pests inside the fruit! An apology and will do better next time from the owner would have been fine! Why LIE?
Dont bother. Disgusting food.
I work down the street so this has always been the go to restaurant for my family when we order take out.
Tonight I placed an order for us like usual & gave my phone number (they had my name already under my phone number as I order from there regularly).
I placed my order at 7:25pm & was told it would take 20 minutes.
At 7:45pm my mom went inside to pick up order order; the woman at the register told her a man already picked it up.
My mom questioned her saying no man in our family would’ve came to pick it up. The woman kept arguing back saying a man walked in, gave my SPECIFIC phone number & she gave him our order.
My mom explained the only man who knew we placed an order is my dad who is currently in the hospital; so there’s a 0 chance a man we knew came in to pick up our order.
The woman continuously argued with my mom trying to put it back on us that we made a mistake. At one point she even said I probably called the highland park store- but that was after she already told us a man picked up our order. So which is it?
My mom ended up walking out as it was frustrating enough & the restaurant should’ve just owned up to the mistake and call it a day. We wouldn’t have been upset if they could’ve just said “sorry, our bad” and moved on.
Either way; they lost a regular customer. Customer
Service means everything.
Food is always great - fresh & delicious. A real favorite at our house.
Love this place. Don’t miss the lime chicken. Also, when mangoes are in season, get the mango sticky rice.
Very fast & authentic.
Wife ordered carryout food was just not up to standard
I've eaten here many times in the past. They used to be on point with their food. A year ago I had a bad experience and decided to give it one more try today. Ordered the chicken panang curry and the mixed seafood spicy chili sauce with brown rice and they were both very delicious. Asked for extra spicy and they definitely prepared it perfectly! Very good and tasty. The only thing we didn't like, the food came cold in temperature so we sent it back to be reheated. Other than that, no complaints.
Best Thai food I’ve ever had, hands down. The customer service is outstanding, and the food is absolutely AMAZING. Me and my boyfriend went to Ruby of Siam for Valentine’s Day, and it will forever be our tradition. I don’t think you can find true, traditional Thai food that is as tasty, fresh, and as beautifully put together than at Ruby of Siam. Customers for life!!
Love this place! Highly recommend the lime chicken, crying tiger, and panang kuay tiew. Great service and they can definitely pack on the heat if you like it spicy!
อาหารของสลิ่ม
Not bad but not good.
Great for pickup! Got the Pad Thai and Khao Soi, very pleased. The food has really improved recently, last time I went was several years ago and will definitely go again
Ruby of Siam has been around since I was a teen and has always been a favorite spot. Theres two locations Skokie & Highland Park, but I usually go to Skokie.
Food has always been great! Skokie Lunch special is a buffet dine in only. Lime chicken is my favorite! Curries and their noodle dishes are great. I haven't had anything bad here from the food to experience to service.
Ruby of Siam is definitely one of my favorite places.
Always great service and classic food.
Great food and service. Traffics is rough around there
They have a great buffet .
Great service and good food.
Went on Sunday with a friend for the buffet at 12 30 pm. The food was terrible. It tasted as if it was left over from the day before and not thoroughly heated. I have had stomach issues for 24 hours. I did not purchase a beverage and with tip it was over 18 dollars. I will not return and will not recommend this restaurant.
Lunch buffet is a must.
Buyer Beware: I ordered takeout from this restaurant, waited 1.5 hours for a 15 minute ETA, and never received my food. First they said “ummmm yes” to canceling and refunding the order. When I called back a week later to ask why I hadn’t seen a credit to my account, the woman could barely speak English and refused to issue a refund. She told me to get a refund from their online order company even though the charge clearly states their restaurant. I had to file a dispute with my credit card company. I hope they get reported to the better business bureau for their shady business practices.
Ok just ok
Excellent Asian cuisine and friendly staff.
Delicious. Some of the best thai food in the Chicagoland area.
The ruby crab is wonderful. The one bite chicken is so much better than any chicken lettuce cup I've had. They also are the only place who will do crispy pad see ewe.
So good.
One of my favorite Thai restaurants ever!
Delicious authentic food and enjoyable atmosphere.
The food is decent but the service fluctuates. If you come in when they're then their more likely to be on point because they want to impress. But, if you go at night when they have few customers, you'll likely get under average service. It's a family joint so you can sometimes see the family interacting and talking on the phone, not a problem if you like family joints, but that can be annoying for others. I recommend the Lime Chicken (we call it Crack chicken due to its addictive flavor), or the fried rice (extra sauce).
I have been to many Thai restaurants in various states. This is definitely up there with some of the best. We had the red curry which was perfect and heat was spot on. The family friendly restaurant was clean with quick and attentive service. They were very accommodating for sharing a meal. I will definitely be back. A+.
Excellent food, strongly recomend.
High prices for average meals...I make better Thai food at home. Kind of disappointed.
Great vegetable dish and shrimp salad. Calm and quiet with gentle servers.
I don’t want to give any restaurant a one star because I know how hard it is to run a restaurant so 3 it is. But this is unacceptable. Instead of giving me the curry I ordered, they gave me soup with 2 pieces of shrimp that I paid $2 more for. I was upset because the brown rice I ordered with it wasn’t even cooked. I’m gonna give it another chance another day but it makes me so mad that they don’t care. They just put something together and sell it, they don’t care if it’s a proper meal, they don’t understand people are wasting their hard earned money, and for what? Hot water and 2 pieces of shrimp. They just want money
Excellent Thai food
This food is delicious and they give enough food that I usually end up taking home leftovers. I've gone twice now and I've enjoyed everything I had. The bubble tea is also very delicious. The service is great and the prices are average for a basic restaurant. Not super expensive but not cheap. Clean and professional, including the bathroom. There's a large parking lot and plenty of seating. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a sit down place. I've never done take out so not sure about that.
Best Thai food!
Good cozy place.
Have had better Thai food
Ok, nothing great.
Good thai food. Always a good choice if you want something quick.
I have yet to find a better Thai restaurant in the Chicago-land area. Whether stopping in for the lunch buffet or visiting for a longer dinner, the food is always delicious, prepared quickly, and consistent in quality. I recommend the Pad Thai and Panang Curry, as they are both excellent. This is easily worth a drive from within the city for a visit.
Always good food as and value in this comfortable restaurant. A "go to place" for informal Thai dining
