Cheery eatery offering familiar Chinese & Thai eats, plus lunch specials & carryout.
We placed a big order here for a recent party. Everything was correct in the order an absolutely delicious. Our new favorite spot for Asian cuisine! I loved the pud see ew and the veggie egg rolls.
A friend picked up four dinners on Sunday, July 7, 2024 early evening.
The Ma Po Tofu - was toooo terrible. The Tofu was so soft (spongy) and tasteless (the gravy did not do anything to it).
Another order was for Chicken / Shrimps / Beef and was beyond unacceptable.
The third one was for some kind of chicken.
We had very little on Sunday since we were hungry (I mean very little) and the rest was tossed yesterday.
The friend paid separately for the pick up order. Attached please find one receipt
For the price paid, we should have received better food. For two of us it was the first time and also the last time we order or it from Yummy Bowl.
I can't remark on the Atmosphere since I was not the one that picked up the food.
Very friendly, food is amazing and the place is beautiful. Would recommend to anyone who wants to enjoy yummy food!
Great for takeout or dine-in! Very good tasting food.
Very delicious owners are very polite and welcoming best restaurant in highland Park in my opinion great experience

Food was excellent so nice
Great food, great service, and nice quiet ambiance.
Nice Chinese and Thai food in a nice building in downtown Highland Park, Illinois.
Very delicious owners are very polite and welcoming best restaurant in highland Park in my opinion great experience
Great gluten free menu! The curry is delicious!

Decent, standard American Oriental food. No objections. My kid likes it...*eh*
Awful food, never Gail
I was there for a Wedding Shower. The food was very good, and the service was outstanding. I would recommend Yummy Bowl for regular dining, or for special occasions.
Well prepared. We had hot and sour soup, followed by 4 seasons with shrimp. I had spicy vegetables and noodles with beef. The beef was very tender. The noodles were homemade. Piano music in the background was pleasant and slightly romantic. Will absolutely do it again.
The three times I've been here in the past six months have been consistently good. The portions & the quality along with the service are all better than average. The atmosphere is a little bit bland though.
I felt compelled to make this review since the restaurant seems to be getting unfairly review bombed with 1-star reviews for whatever reason on google.
I've been going to this restaurant for almost ten years now, and it's probably the best Chinese restaurant I've found within the area (seems particularly difficult to find decent Chinese in the northern suburbs). The food tastes fresh and is clearly much higher quality than the usual American Chinese fare that typically tries to make up for the lousy quality with gigantic portions. The orange chicken and empress chicken are my go-to dishes. Both are especially good if you eat them in the restaurant on the spot before the sauce takes away the crispiness of the chicken. The hot and sour soup is top notch as well.
The only thing that's fallen off in recent years is the crab rangoon. It's still good, but it used to be amazing--just like I remember crab rangoon tasting in the early 90s before restaurants started using imitation crab, then no crab at all, then next to no cream cheese. Very sad to see it change.
I've always received friendly service at the restaurant, and the atmosphere is clean, elegant, and relaxing. I try to make a point of eating here whenever I visit Highland Park.
The food is amazing and the service is awesome!!!
Very nice place and friendly employees.
Owner is extremely rude and mentioning her about excessive wait time is useless β¦
I donβt relish doing this butβ¦. This is the single worst Chinese restaurant potentially restaurant in general Iβve ever experienced. The food is inedible just absolutely awful. Texturally, flavor profile, ingredient quality, freshness of fruits. Iβm not sure what the βchickenβ was but it certainly wasnβt any type of food Iβve ever experienced. Donβt eat here!
Okay Chinese restaurant with Thai food offerings in downtown Highland Park. Good variety of options including gluten free dishes, but quality is only average for a North suburban Chinese restaurant. The chicken in the sweet and sour chicken dish was dry, pad Thai was sparse on egg and veggies (spouse not happy with the chicken in that dish), and the rice was a little dry/old, but my black bean chicken was fine. My son ordered Kung pao chicken and got fish instead, which was weird. I asked our waiter, who assured us it was chicken, but we're not idiots--i'm Chinese and I've eaten fish my whole life. Chicken meat is not bright white and flaky!
Dining here is probably fine if you don't have any hang ups about your Chinese food being really authentic. Prices were good for the volume of food and our server was pleasant. He basically gave my family egg drop soup for free. It'll do the job if you just want to fill up.
Food is always great. I especially love the Korean combo bowl soup.
Got 3 dishes for take out. The food was very average and gave us food poisoning. Unfortunately wouldnβt recommend even for the price and with the limited other asian restaurants in the area
Fantastic experience! Went back the next day.
Simply terrible. Food was bland and greasy. Service was good, though, and waiters were kind.
Head carry out from this restaurant tonight. They were just awful. Iβve been eating Chinese food, my whole life, but the flavors and quality or not good. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend.
Best gluten free options. Always hot and yummy
Surprised and not in a good way with chicken lunch special made with grisly hard to chew pieces, surly inattentive server and tea refill topped off with cold rather than the steaming hot it should have been. Not returning soon.
Iβm speechless. I thought in this day and age, we were past assuming what something was supposed to taste like. What happened to research? What is cooking school for? Where is redemption?
Letβs start off, the staff were incredibly nice. Letβs not hate here. But the food, not so nice.
The chicken is fake. Everything is a lie. My first thoughts were, βyou cant go wrong with fried riceβ but no. I was managed to be proven wrong. The chicken tasted like paper. Inflation is difficult yes, but we shouldnβt be cheated like this.
The Japanese Miso Soup is a joke. I INHALED the smell and was thrown off. As an asian person, this is absurd. The tofu was disgusting. Then I tried the soup. There was no miso paste. It was like food colored juice. It was a funky sweet in the worst way.
As soon as I heard that there was Mongolian Chicken on the menu I was flabbergasted, astonished, and destroyed. Mongolians donβt eat chicken. Itβs not a cultural thing. Have you seen Ghengis Khan eat chicken? Thought so.
My tastebuds need vengeance. This was robbery in broad daylight. π
Great service dining in! So friendly, so fast, and so delicious!
Was a to go order. Everything was yummy I ordered the beef chop and beef fries rice.
BEST Chinese!!! This is the only restaurant that makes gluten free Chinese food and itβs amazing! The owners are very careful to make sure that the Chinese food is gluten free which is very much appreciated!! We order often and will continue to do so! Thank you yummy bowl!
Exceptional food, and not so friendly staff. Wouldnβt recommend if you havenβt had it before.
Exactly what you want and what you expect. Fresh food, no frills. Very friendly staff.
Very sweet place to visit with your familyπ€
First time eating here and they have a large menu of both Thai and Chinese food. There were five of us for dinner and we ordered an appetizer and for entrees to share family style. Everything we ordered was good and we all enjoyed it. Portion sizes were very large and great to share. Everything was good but not great or fantastic. I would definitely come back but would hope for a little bit more flavor or spice on some of the meals. I would like to try some of the other dishes on the menu next time I come.
My favorite Chinese food place. Unfortunately, I will be moving from HP but I will try to come back at least once a month. Great vegetable egg rolls and cashew chicken!
Food was wonderful. Waiter clearly hates his job.
Excellent food! Full of flavor! Family style portions! Great service!
Great service and food!
Back in the neighborhood, and ate at our good ol Chinese restaurant. Food very good. They the Green Curry
Egg Fu Young was tasteless and mostly rice. Eggplant and tofu was delicious but needed more tofu. Chicken chop suey was very bland but acceptable. This is not a 5 star restaurant.
This is one horrid excuse for a Chinese restaurant. Though our server was efficient, the food was horrible, bland and haphazardly prepared. We ordered the shrimp and pineapple lettuce cups. It was very unflavorful and pineapples were missing. They seemed to have substituted the pineapples with lots of water chestnuts instead. The noodles were just that! Noodles were bland, lacking vegetables and lack luster in flavor. I had to take it home to fix the flavor profile of it to make it more palatable. The egg drop soup seemed to taste like thickened water with egg. The chicken with broccoli was disappointingly bland. I have had better Chinese food! The price of the dinner was over priced for what they served us. It was highway robbery.
Good food
My favorite place for Gluten Free Chinese food! They are so nice and very accommodating with all my food allergies!! I probably order from here once or twice a week and am always happy with my food! Thank you Yummy Bowl! ππ
Delicious food and some of the friendliest staff ever. Iβve been here a handful of times, this most recent time for pick up and the food was great! They have a lot of gluten free options and are always willing to add or subtract based on preferences. Had the GF chicken with mixed vegetables which is in a light and sweet sauce. Have also had the GF orange chicken which is a great GF dish. Canβt say enough good things about Yummy Bowl!
Solid food. Quick takeout.
Unbeatable sesame chicken.
The best Chinese youβll ever get. The quality is fresh and hot and the restaurant inside is so clean snd open and nice. 10/10. Weβve been going for years. Iβve gone to many other Chinese restaurants in Chicago a d suburbs and even China town in Chicago and San Francisco and yummy bowl is still my favorite and the service is fabulous!!! Iβve NEVER been disappointed.
Tom yum was awful, diluted to the point it was tasteless, and foul. Noodles were also bland. Dumplings were under cooked and stuck together. Yeah first and last time I'll order from them.
Large, spacious dining room and a very friendly owner. I ordered the Garlic Tofu Noodles; it was very yummy!
One of the worst meals I've had. The kind where you share your dish (orange beef) with others at the table to watch their reactions. Honestly can't comprehend their current high star rating. All this topped off with Sienfield soup guy level service. Bottom line, hard pass.
Got takeout and was disappointed by lack of flavor. The pineapple chicken fried rice was especially dull. Maybe it was just an off day.
Muy bueno ππ
Love the food , great staff , always recommend to my family and friends. But the color layout .. is so boring and dull . Place needs a new color scheme. And a more uplifting vibe .
Everybody loves that the first visit not so much the second
Delicious food and happy, friendly accommodating staff. Great gluten free selection.
Good gluten free selection for a Chinese food place. GF fried rice and gf lettuce wraps were average (which is common omitting the soy sauce to make GF), gf sesame chicken was outstanding!
I loved this place years ago. I don't know what happened. Chicken dishes have a distinct "shrimp" flavor, and the chicken at times is not thoroughly cooked. I've had to send food back and that's uncomfortable for all. No longer patronizing Yummy Bowl, a real shame.
Very good service and a enormous gluten free menu with great options
This beautiful restaurant provides great service, extra large portions, is clean and well decorated. It's probably a $$, but well worth itπ They follow the recommended health and safety guidelines with dine-in service, but also provide great carry-out.
We are new residents in Highland Park. This was our first time trying Yummy Bowl (November, 2019). First of all, the food was good. Nothing outstanding, but tasty and seemingly well prepared.
Our problem was with everything surrounding the product. We ordered online for pickup, since the phone for the restaurant was constantly busy. When I arrived to get our order, "John" at the front desk was very polite, but clearly beyond his abilities. The phone was ringing off the hook. John showed me my order ticket. I confirmed the items listed on the ticket and total amount, paid by debit card (including a 12% tip on a pickup order!), accepted the bag of food which John had retrieved for me, and drove back home.
NOTHING in the bag matched our order. We called the restaurant....phones still busy! I drove back, entered the restaurant, and stated that we were given the wrong food. Much confusion by John, who was also dealing with another customer to whom he was trying to give the wrong order.....not our food, however.
Eventually John asked for my name, then said that I had given him an entirely different name before. I stated that he had shown me the correct order ticket, which I had confirmed (including my name), and he had then given me the wrong bag of food. After waiting for 10 minutes, I was finally given the correct order, freshly prepared, which I visually confirmed. I drove home.
An hour later, John called my phone, repeatedly claiming that he had never charged us for the order. I had signed the original charge slip, and refused to give him my debit card number so that he could double-charge us. Minutes after that call, he again called to state that they had confirmed the charge had been made, and he apologized.
IF we EVER decide to go to Yummy Bowl again, we will dine IN the restaurant to see if the experience is better.
Great food at great prices.
Delicious food, service was great, and the food came out quickly.
Very authentic oriental restaurant a little bit pricey but big Portions
horrible place..bad food and horrible wait time..service seemed rushed bit all was so slow..very bad expirence
Fresh food, good service and a nice place to have a conversation.
Good for takeout, had buffet on Christmas simple pretty good.
Good for a family, we left full and happy.
Had a order to pick up and they took 30 minutes over the time it was supposed to be ready. Horrible customer service.
Very good choice of tasty food served courteously and graciously.
We were visiting from out of state and wanted some good Chinese food. Where we live there is no such thing. We ate here 3 nights out of 6 and enjoyed everything. The staff was very friendly too. We will look forward to eating here again!
Good and tasty food and great service.
Thereβs no way this place should have 4.4 stars. The meat both chicken and beef were horrible. I donβt care what kind of restaurant you have the quality of meat served should never be this low quality. The Vietnamese soup shouldnβt even be on the menu. No flavor at all, below basic.
Food was delicious
I eat here every time I come to town. The wait staff are friendly and attentive, and the food is always excellent.
We ordered 2 vegetarian dishes that usually are very flavorful and it was biiig disappointment.Fresh but flavorless.
Super nice service, clean place.
True to its name, the food is yummy. The service is fantastic, the staff is very friendly. We really enjoyed our visit.
This place is advertised as Chinese and Thai food and the Chinese food is decent but the Thai food is not right at all. We tried basil chicken and Pad See Ew, and neither tasted like they should. The rest of the family tried orange chicken and teriyaki beef which was better. The egg rolls were decent as well but not fantastic. Come here to try the Chinese food but don't order Thai.
The owner here is a middle aged gentleman that is simply a pleasure with which to interact. The food is good and reasonably priced for food on highland park. I eat there twice a month and they treat me very well and make it a point to assure I get very good service. I do reccomend this place often. Btw I did not give 5 stars to the Waldorf... they got 3.
Good food good service
Ordered Thai dishes. Good quality and not sweet. Just not impressive overall.
Wonderful menu. Something for everybody!
Love this place!
Waiters are always very kind and eager to assist. Food is very enjoyable. Great environment to eat at as well as a great place to order out!
Great Asian fair!
I've consistently received excellent service and very tasty food at Yummy Bowl. The value for the amount of food is good, and I almost always have leftovers for another meal.
First time trying this restaurant..a friend brought me since she has been having about it for some time. Well, she was right. The menu is varied with Chinese and Thai food. I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai and it was the best I have had. We went shortly after they open @ 11:30 and the luncheon selection is great and so we're the prices. Included in the price is a choice of soup, an egg roll and stuffed wonton, tea, entree and a cookie. Total for the 2 of us was less than $17, and we both took leftovers home. If you are in the area of Highland Park..stop in. You won't be disappointed. The interior of the restaurant is very, very nice.
Good food and good prices. The staff is always friendly.
Good and reasonably priced. Consistent product and good service.
Most of the food is conservative and on the bland side, it you're looking for something more adventurous you'll have to head to the city.
Mongolian Beef is great.
Tom Yum Soup is great (highly recommend).
Spring Rolls were good.
Pad Thai is above average.
Yellow Curry was good but a little bland.
Crunchy Sesame Chicken Noodles is good but bland.
Again, a good place for Chinese food on the north shore and priced right.
Decent asian food and good prices.
Very quick service, decent food for the price
Good Service, Delicious food.
Loved it
Yummy Bowl is the best Thai restaurant I have ever visited!!
Great service!! Great food and great prices especially for how much food you get!! One of my favorite places now!
A Highland Park institution, Yummy Bowl offers healthy, good tasting Asian food.
We have been eating quite regularly. And also order out. Best Chinese food in this town.
Nice service, food was fine.
Good food, fast, in a nice place.
Great food and service. Prices are surprisingly reasonable.
The service is impeccable and the food's delicious! I ordered off the lunch menu and took it to go -- the food was hot (even after my car ride back to the office) and the portion size was more than enough for one person. Would definitely recommend!
Very good food and great service
Decent. Large portions, very nice staff
Quick, reasonable priced,
Awesome food, excellent service. Easily our favorite Chinese food restaurant in the surrounding area. We drive from Mundelein because we prefer their food over any of the restaurants by us.
Stopped here for a quick bite after the movies. It was okay. Gluten free menu had plenty of choices which was nice. Ordered the pad Thai which I enjoyed. Having something other than a bare salad is always a treat. Choices ranged from traditional Mongolian style to Americanized Chinese sweet and sour. I'd go back for the variety.
Hubby had Pho type bowl of the lunch menu (not GF). It was meh. He's a once and done.
Lots of space. Friendly staff
Great food, service fabulous. We love Yummy Bowl!
Muy rico todo
I've always called this restaurant Yummy Bowl. Great Chinese food in downtown Highland Park area.
Stopped in town for a quick lunch. Had the sesame chicken on the lunch menu. Food was reasonably price and delicious. Staff were very friendly and attentive.
Food, service were all good. The Thai spicy fried rice with chicken wasn't as good as most people said, personally speaking. Nothing was really "spicy" spicy given where I originally came from. But the taste was good overall.
The back ground music was a bit out of the picture.
If you like PF changs you must try this restaurant. Excellent service, food and reasonable prices. Always a tables available
Great friendly service with Yummy food
Good food and service. Fried rice is on point.
Food is pretty good and they are one of only a couple Chinese restaurants in the area that have a glutenhere menu
Great food. Great service. Reasonable. Tio is a great and entertaining waiter.
This place has pretty good Chinese food, but not super-great. We prefer to do takeout but there is a good-sized dining room.
