This is the first time I've been here since the name change and new ownership. It was a great experience. I had the Fresh Spring Roll for an appetizer and Pad See ew as my main. The new owners and menu have seriously disappointed! Lovely Thai used to be one of our favorite local restaurants, but we will not be returning. I’ll start by saying the spring rolls are TERRIBLE! I included a picture because they are comical. Basically a head of lettuce, packed with excessive amounts of whole basil leaves, formed into uncut/unsharable rolls. The pad Thai is oily and completely void of flavor. So disappointing!

Super rude owner, told me why he needs to care about my opinion when he has other 5 restaurants and tables. There was flies in my food and all he can say was o well you want a new one. Very rude and will NEVER COME BACK AGAIN old owner so much nicer and lovely person. Rice isn't even Jasmine rice no apology about food being not at level it should. Pad thai taste like they added ketchup and their lardna that had flies in it tasted super salty.

First time here and so far so good. It’s looking like it’s going to be one of our go tos, or even for order out. We tried the shrimp pad Thai, Cali roll, and GOLDEN SHRIMP!!! Well now we don’t have to go to Tsukasa anymore just for golden shrimp they have the recipe nailed here, that delicious golden egg yolk sauce … yum. Pad Thai was delicious. I loved the crunchy peanuts and fat juicy shrimp. Washed it all down with an ice cold Sapporo to share with my hubby. We will be back for sure. Thank you!!!

The older lady, I think she might be the manager, always looks angry and is rude. I just ordered food and went in to pick it up and the floor between the doors on the inside is wet and I fell on my knees. I told the lady with the angry face that they should get a mat there because it is slippery and I just fell and with her angry face she just turned around and ignored me! One other time, I tried to use a coupon that they sent to my house and she had the same stank/angry face. I like the food, but I think I might have to find another place becasue of her.

Quantity of entrees and appetizers is decent. Pad see ewe and basil entree are tasty, along with crab rangoon and vegetarian spring rolls.

Great Thai menu options, but overall presentation could be improved - our limes have been brown the last few times we've ordered entrees - at that point just skip the lime.

I got the massaman curry, it was very very delicious. Very creamy and savory curry and all around good. Best Thai place around in my opinion. The atmosphere is very calming and nice and the service is good.

Carry out order but food was amazing. Got the roasted duck basil highly recommend and shrimp and pineapple fried rice came with half pineapple very awesome.

Been to this restaurant multiple times. Food and service is always amazing! One time we ordered take out and they forgot to give us one of our drinks - we turned around to go back and pick it up. One of the workers apologized and gave us our drink plus another and asked if we wanted anything else because they felt bad for the hiccup. If I could give 10 stars I would!! Will always recommend this place :)

Been a long-time customer of this place!!! Absolutely love the food (both take-out and dine-in) and the latest renovation is great. The staff is always so accommodating, and the menu has plenty of vegetarian-friendly options.

The food was really bad. Ordered a Lard Na and a yellow curry. The Lard Na had zero flavor and was basically just soggy noodles in vegetable broth and the curry was a few pieces of Tofu and a carrot and mostly water. This place has gone severely downhill since the ownership change.

Chicken pad tai is amazing. One of the rare places where they back the spice up - beware! Egg rolls were crispy and fried dumplings were flavorful.

This places is amazing, the service is great and the food is really good. I got the chicken pad thai. If you are into spicy it’s really spicy but the medium spicy is really good. The pot stickers are great option for an appetizer.

Real good food

The food has really improved since it came under new ownership and was renamed. Great Thai food and good sushi too. Most curries have a spicy kick to them but there are plenty of non-spicy options too. We order takeout here every week for the family.

Dishes have a typical level of Thai spiciness now so if you’re used to the old lovely Thai’s spice level (almost non-existent), let them know when you’re ordering!

Tried the other day for the first time. Had the sushi which was pretty good except the salmon still had some skin on it. I enjoyed the other rolls I had. Service was a little slow considering there were only 2-3 tables while we were in there which was frustrating when trying to order more rolls.

Very nicely decorated thai resturant with Thai and Japanese food. Great lunch prices with soup and egg roll. Had vegetable beef which was very tasty.

updated review: ordered again, food was not as good as the first time around. Potstickers were meh, and pad thai was not great. Odd combination of stuff, some kind of brown sauce - maybe it's more of a true pad thai sauce, but noodles way overcooked and chicken dry as a bone and everything kinda had a different taste. Not good, not bad - just a bit off when you think of "americanized" pad thai.

We have been dining in and taking out for years. Though the name has changed, the food has not. Great flavors with generous servings! Our favorite cook Deng and our lovely waitress Cathy are still there with smiles on their faces!

Beautiful inside! They have great lunch specials, and a huge variety of items for gluten free/vegetarian/vegan. One warning: I asked for my Tofu and Vegetables to have medium spice and it was extremely spicy compared to other Thai food I have eaten. Overall great experience with very attentive service!

I truly enjoyed this experience because of many things. I don’t even know how to express how great the food was, there was so much flavor but it was yet still so unique and simple. There were so many things on the menu such as Bento boxes, Japanese food, and different types of rolls and combos. I got the Crab Rangoon rolls and I have to say that those were some of the best rolls I’ve had in a while, it was so crispy and delicious. For dessert I got milk tea boba which was good but was kind of watery and there wasn’t too much boba but there is an option to get extra boba for $1. I couldn’t end this great experience without trying mango sticky rice, the rice was a nice smooth texture and the mango was nice and sweet. This dessert was warm and it made me feel at home because of how unique and nice this combo is. That is a Thai dish if anybody’s wondering! This concludes my great time at Xang Sushi and Thai

I have been over to Thailand.. Chang Mai and Pattaya, and had my first Pad Thai over there. I have been to a handful of Thai places, and FINALLY found somewhere that makes AMAZING, authentic Thai food! Great service, kind and warm atmosphere, and I take a bow to the CHEF! My uncle who brought me to Thailand my first time agreed too. This place is the only Thai place I’ll go to now. And the sushi was as good as I’ve ever had as well. They've really hit their stride. Been here 3 times since the change in ownership and It has gotten better and better. The Basil Beef Lunch Special was awesome ($12 for a generous Basil Beef entree, Tom Yum Soup, and an Egg Roll). The Sushi is great. The Tom Yum Soup was fantastic. Highly recommend the Bangkok Summer Roll if you enjoy cilantro.

We ordered take out from Xang Thai for the first time last night.
We ordered 3 items for take out: Chive pancakes, Pad Thai and Drunken noodles.
Our order was accurate and prepared quickly. It was hot and obviously freshly prepared. The vegetables and other ingredients were of good quality.
My negative feedback was the flavors were not authentic Thai. As I said to my husband "It is good food but it is not Thai food"
Sadly, we won't be ordering from them again.

We love this place and end up here at least once a week! We are vegetarian and find plenty of yummy options - the sweet potato sushi and vegetable sushi, Rama curry, vegetable curry fried rice, and the mango rice are our favorites. This place is the best Thai place in town and we highly recommend it! Cathy and Ravi, who run the place and serve the customers, are awesome and make us feel very welcome :)

We ordered food on Mother’s Day spent $65 on 3 entrees and some horrible spring rolls.
The food was extremely bland and slimy. It was so disappointing two of us are now sick I do not recommend coming here.

I live very close to this place. It's my go-to for the moment! It's the perfect place for those of you that live out of the way of other Sushi/Boba options. Their menu is extensive enough to have something new every time you come and not come across a bad meal! Best local Thai/Japanese food that isn't in the city around!

I'm so glad we discovered this place. It's huge for a strip mall restaurant. The food is really good. The ambiance is fine but not spectacular. Can't wait to go back.

Bland. Maybe they're targeting all the old white people in the area? The chef tried to be polite but seemed like he knew the score, so this was not a one off. Fried tofu appetizer seemed like a premade frozen item, wet and cold in the center even though the outside was blasted. Sushi was also bland. Couldn't taste any freshness, which is a staple of Thai and Japanese cuisine. I make Thai at home with real ingredients. I know my stuff. There are real Thai restaurants in the area. You can do better.

The new owner is super friendly and helpful in making recommendations from the new and improved menu. My old favorites (Rama Chicken & Tom Yum Soup) are even better than before! The addition of bento boxes and a sushi bar is fantastic and the atmosphere is really nice. Well done!

Lovely Thai (now called Xang Thai & Sushi) has been our favorite Thai place in Lake County. Their food is delicious and well-, made, and everyone there is always very friendly and welcoming. The spice levels are great, with their highest "for-people-not-from-Thaliand" level at the bottom of Thai spice levels, so anyone can enjoy whatever amount of heat they want even within those levels. We love this place - thank you Xang Thai & Sushi, fka Lovely Thai!

The food was amazing me and my girlfriend love coming to this spot for the mango sticky rice! One of the best and only Thai food spot around the area and glad that it is here. The food was amazing but wasn’t as amazing as the service the lady was super nice always wanting feedback and took very good care of us and made sure we had a great time. Highly Recommend!!

First time trying after new ownership and I'll admit I like the new menu offerings. We ordered carryout for a Friday night dinner date over the phone. When arriving at the restaurant 30 minutes later they were very busy. Their restaurant was practically full and they had a short line for carryout. This kept me waiting an extra 10-15 mins but I understand it's the weekend dinner rush and I just was hoping the food was still good.

We ordered the crab rangoon, chicken basil fried rice, blue crab fried rice, shrimp tempura roll, and some boba teas. All tasted good. The recipe sure isn't like the original Lovely Thai but it was good in its own way. For the blue crab that I originally ordered they didn't have any blue crab available after I placed the order so they subbed with other crab meat and discounted from the dish price in the end. We were excited to know that they offer sushi now and tried the shrimp tempura roll because who can mess up something as simple as that roll? Guess what? We loved it. We will definitely be trying some more rolls in the future.

As for the overall state of things here I think the new Xang Thai & Sushi will be great. Lovely Thai will be missed but I'm glad Grayslake still has good Thai food options plus the added Japanese menu items. We can't wait to try more dishes and actually dine in their restaurant.

Was just there an hr ago, used to go here before covid. They recently added Japanese food. Including sushi! Everything was amazing! The pad thai and tom yum soup were exceptional as always! But the sushi knocked it out the park!

The food was just average, nothing remarkable. It appears there’s been a change in management. The middle-aged man from the kitchen was incredibly rude. When I miscalculated the tip, he was rude to my wife about it. Despite waiting outside, I stepped in, corrected the mistake, and left a 20% tip. However, his lack of manners and rudeness over a simple mistake was unacceptable. I used to be a regular customer, but after this experience, I won’t be returning to this restaurant.

Food here is good - that's why we drive 20 min each way to pick up. However, the past 2 times we ordered, the food has been wrong (we learned our lesson the 1st time and now check our order before we leave). Also, the prices on their website and the prices in the receipt don't match. We were charged$1 less for one appetizer but $2 more for each entree. They need to get their act together!

I placed a call and I was placed on hold (I figured it was busy so it made sense). I waited for 10 mins just to be hung up on. When I called back to ask what that was about, I was told, “we are busy right now and placing an order would be about 45mins”. I would love to know what that had to do with hanging up on someone that is already waiting to place an order?? This place needs to work on their over-the-phone service badly. This isn’t the first time I’ve been met with a dry, ‘doesn’t-want-to-work-here’, voice.

The food here is absolutely amazing. Cannot go anywhere else but here. I’ve been coming for years and the quality is great.

I have only ordered one dish from here, but I've done so regularly for 10 years now. It's their chicken Pad Thai. I think it's the most favorable meal in Lake County. And easily the best Pad Thai I've ever had. I can't recommend it enough.

Very poor experience. Teriyaki chicken was extremely dry and very slow service. My moms order was the last one out and it took forever. At that point, she just asked for a to go box and after telling the waiter how long she waited, he just shrugged his shoulders and left without getting any manager and didn’t attempt anything to fix the issue. We didn’t even tip our waiter because of how poor the service was. I would not recommend coming here.

Not very friendly but the food is ok.

Ordered the chicken teriyaki and it was not really good. The meat and vegetables were fresh but it was just plain dried out chicken pieces and plain veggies no flavor. They don't cook the meat and veggies in the sauce. The sauce is on the side and it is a thick gelatin consistency. They don't give you a lot of food either so $13 plain dried food is disappointing. Maybe the good reviews are for other dishes but this was not good at all. I did call to make sure this wasn't an error and that this is how the prepare it and they said yes. I prefer Royal Thai in Gurnee. I always wanted to try this place but probably won't try it again.

Comfortable and pleasant dining room. The food is great and the portions are substantial. Giant cups of tea and killer Thai iced coffee. I asked for extra vegetables in my Pad Thai and actually got quite a lot!

An update in 2023 - I don’t know what’s going on with their phones but when we call to make an order most of the time there is no answer or we get a message that sounds like they’re out of business. We keep trying until we get them or else we just go somewhere else. When we go to pick up food the phones are just ringing and ringing and nobody’s picking up. They need to get someone to just answer the phone. At least answer and put people on hold to acknowledge that you’re there!
