Casual lunch & dinner spot serving Vietnamese & Thai noodles, soups & salads with BYOB option.
Tried their Bun Bo Hue and I was not disappointed! It was definitely new to me coming from a Mexican/Puerto Rican background, however while eating it during a Chicago winter day I felt so happy and was reminded of eating my grandmas pozole on a cold day. Will definitely come back and try more dishes! Also they give a generous portion so I was able to enjoy leftovers at home. It tasted even better because I was able to eat it without anyone watching or hearing me moan out loud at how much I was enjoying it. Also at home I learned a fork works wonders.
The bún bò Huế here is probably as authentic as you can get in Chicago. The broth was lip-smackingly savory with deep layers of flavor since they didn't shy from using shrimp paste. The thick rice noodles had a good chew and the toppings were all delicious. Missing from the veggies plate on the side were a few types of herbs thag traditionally go with the dish like mint, basil, etc. A more intense kick of spice would also elevate this dish significantly.
The best bun Bo hue in Chicago. The most authentic noodles place I have ever been to. The place brings me back home to Vietnam. They recently came out with butterfly peach drink and it’s so good I have to come back and get more.
No.12 and No.26。It's a big bowl. It's delicious. I like my choice of No. 26, which has shrimp kebabs and sliced beef, and lots of vegetables, and the noodles taste vermicelli and refreshing. With sauce, the taste is really great, sweet and sour, and it is comfortable to eat in summer. The noodle soup tastes great, too.
I came on a Sunday for lunch and it was pretty empty; it’s a spacious spot and felt a little too awkwardly quiet, but overall the vibe was comfortable. The menu is huge, and the options are very diverse, from classic Vietnamese fare to traditional Central Vietnamese dishes to classic Thai staples. The prices are also solid and affordable.
I ordered the Vermicelli Noodle Salad Bowl with Grilled Shrimp and Beef, a classic dish that usually hits the spot for me. Overall, it was appreciably light and refreshing for a hot day, but I would try to choose something else if I come again in the future. I wasn’t too impressed with the meats— the shrimp and beef were both pretty overcooked and tough. The vermicelli noodles itself were good— they were light and chewy, though I wish there was more sauce to go with it. The veggies tasted fresh, and the peanuts and egg roll added a nice, crispy texture to the bowl.
Hoping to come back in the colder weather to try their Bun Bo Hue!

This place is known for Bún bò huế (Hue spicy beef noodle soup) and gỏi vịt (duck salad). Our group came for dinner and ordered a plethora of food:
- bún bò huế (delicious, deep flavorful broth, has a good kick)
- bún mắm
- hủ tiếu nam vang
- bê thui/ veal salad (good flavor on the veal, tender meat, good rind texture, also a good kick)
- gỏi vịt/ duck salad (delicious duck with bone in and well seasoned salad)
- chim cút quay (buttery and fun to eat)
- cà phê sữa đá
- sinh tố bơ (ok)
We had a satisfied meals with delicious appetizers and soothing noodle soup. They also have their own chili vinaigrette which you must add/try if you can handle the spice (~jalapeño level). Drinks menu is sufficient/ok.
The pho Ga (chicken) was delicious!
Very good pho!

Best bun Bo hue in town. Enjoy it every time.
My favorite place to grab Pho Ga and work remotely.
Bun Bo Hue #1
The best bun Bo hue in Chicago. The most authentic noodles place I have ever been to. The place brings me back home to Vietnam. They recently came out with butterfly peach drink and it’s so good I have to come back and get more.
I like the food here and the service is great. My only problem currently is that idk if they are open anymore and if they are I don’t know the address to their new location.
get the bun bo hue, you won’t regret it
Been coming here for years, great food!
Bún bò Huế is the dish to order here, one of the best I've ever tasted. Staff is friendly and attentive. Nothing beats a great bowl of soup for the cold weather.
Had the BBH here, surprisingly good and well balanced with flavor. I still thought it needed more fish sauce, but you are always free to add your own. Will definitely come back for BBH. My girlfriend got the pho here and it was not good. It tasted very artificial and it was very hard for her to finish the pho. The broth was also very cloudy and not clear (not all places have clear broth, but it was very opaque). The pho broth needs work.
I ordered the pho tai. The broth was not clear, tasted like artificial flavoring, and had a weird initial/lingering aftertaste. I could not finish my pho. I love pho and this place was disappointing in terms of pho broth and meat quality. However, the noodles were al dente and tastes great. I would not come here again.

FINALLY REAL BUN BO HUE WITH BONE BROTH
you know how you know the broth is bone broth your lips start sticking together .
Thank you for keeping it real
Es súper delicioso el servicio es perfecto muy atentos y lindos el precio es muyyy accesible recomendado al 💯 😊😊😋😋😋
Delicious food. The best on Argyle. Have been coming here for years and excited to see Hoang at the new location. Duck salad is a must.
best Bun Bo in Chicago, other food is ok
We miss you please come back
When is it reopened?
Best Bun Bo Hue in Chicago I’ve had so far!
i’ve had better bun bo hue
I literally only come here for their Bún bò Huế because I believe this is the best one in Little Vietnam/Argyle.
I don’t love that this place doesn’t play music, because it can be extremely quiet in here - especially during off peak dining hours. The ambiance would be a bit better if there was actual music. It’s also BYOB from the last time I was there - hope it stays the same!
MN good
Best food. Always good.
👍👍👍Great place for authentic Vietnamese cuisine... 🙏🙏🙏My friend (of Fremont CA) says this restaurant is as good as those in San Jose, California... And that's a BIG ENDORSEMENT.... SO come and enjoy😋😋😋

We enjoyed this charming and friendly family style local restaurant. Delicious Vietnamese and Thai food!
Great Bun Mam
Best Bun Bo Hue in town
Always great food. I always get the pork chop and it’s perfect every time.
Love the Bun Bo Hue and shrimp spring roll!
Placed a phone order for 2 Bún Bò Huế, and 1 order has only pig blood curds and not a single piece of beef or pork in there... was a huge disappointment 😞
Cafe Hoang is number one in Bun Bo Hue in Chicago. The price is reasonable. It's a good restaurant in Uptown area.
Bun bo hue was excellent. Good balance between sweet sour and spicy. It’s a little too spicy for me, l prefer that’s l would putting the spice myself. It’s was tasty but not for kid. They’ll charge extra for more veggies.

They are known for their Bun Bo Hue spicy noodle soup. If you see in Argyle and want to try something different than Pho, would recommend this dish here.
Best bun bo hue in town. This is my 30th order
We had an outstanding meal of spicy soup, fresh spring rolls and a delicious bun. The portions were nice, the food was fresh, the restaurant was clean. I think we have found our new Vietnamese restaurant! Yum!
Very good pho broth. Bun bo hue is tasty, but it's spicy so not for the faint of heart. Pork chop is cooked to perfection. Staff is very attentive. Highly recommend
My girlfriend and I just moved her a few months ago and this is already our favorite restaurant. The staff is extremely friendly and the food comes out very fast. The ambience inside the restaurant is very cozy and I love coming here after a stressful week of work, a sick day, or just to have good dinner conversation. I recommend getting the spring rolls as an appetizer and the house special for your meal. I’d eat this everyday if I could.
Viet Nam food, so fresh. It's so appetizing. Staff treated us so nice. Prices were fair for the quality of the food.
My husband comes here a few times a week for breakfast/lunch and today I realized why… the service and food is great!! Café Hoang is a breath of fresh air !! Thank you!!

Fantastic pho with all the toppings you could possibly want and access to plenty of Sriracha. The interior was alright and reasonably clean and well kept. The wait staff was great, though the food did take a little while to prepare. I came here since it was open on the holiday.
Terrible service!!!! Almost didn't tip. Will NEVER come here again! You will regret it if you dine here.
They can accommodate large groups if you call ahead. The food was excellent. Everything was chef prepared. The service was impeccable and the food was served promptly. They had very reasonably priced happy hour drinks.
Great Cafe Hoang. I was very satisfied with the dishes. They are a bit small but dishes are extremely well seasoned and flavored.
I loved the experience, the staff , the food، music and the ambience. The food was really good, very professional staff and elegant decoration, the Thai iced tea selection was great as well
Excellent place for a nice night out. We started with the Pan fried wide rice noodles seafood and for the main course had Hot pot soups with fish and the Thai stir – fried noodles. Service, drinks, food were fantastic. Definitely going back.
They cloesed
Very tasty Soup. Friendly service.
Really fresh delicious food! Good service. Nice atmosphere.
Bad service and bad food. 👎
Good food 👍
Good food, clean and friendly staffs
Quite delicious. We had the pho and panang curry. I refunded it if you are looking for a hidden gem
Friendly service on a rainy Tuesday with incredibly delicious food. I read a lot about their bún bò Huế soup and it was indeed delicious, spicy, and a bit funky (in a good way, if youre ok with that!). We really loved it.
They have loads of other incredible dishes too though! Our group shared the soup and also the Bánh Xèo (amazing), #32 (the big noodles and veggies are delish in this dish), and #80 (we got it with fried squid instead of beef- not shown on the menu but you can request it).
Truly some of the most wonderful Vietnamese food ive had in Chicago. Will return! Definitely go!
really delicious pho tai! the lemongrass chicken with rice was also really great. nice ambience and staff and reasonable prices :)
#26 is my go to!!! Been getting it since I saw it on Check Please in 2008
Noodles flavorless. There are better options.
Excelente
Food and service pretty good
They are definitely known for their Bun Bo Hue. I’ve been eating it since they were a smaller establishment. It is still very flavorful. I removed a star because of the goi cuon. I was given 1 shrimp per roll and it was filled with a lot of noodles. I also received my shrimp/beef/egg roll noodles after the people that I was with finished their food. They did explain that they were short staff. Honestly, just stick with the bun bo hue. I was not impressed with the goi cuon and the egg roll noodles
They are known for their bun bo hue. It's really a hit or miss sometimes. When it's a hit its the best although the pig feet is way overcooked. The pho ga is one of the worse I've ever had in my life. Some of the other dishes are alright. Overall, I would only go for the bun bo hue and not really anything else.
I ordered 4 bun bo hue carry out for $57, found out there is no meat. Only soup and noodles. Scam restaurants.
Had pad Thai and green curry, both were delicious.
Love this place
The broth for the beef Pho .... AMAZING ☺️
Hands down best Bun Bo Hue I've ever had, a mainstay. Great service. Do not miss out on this when visiting Argyle.
Great food, very inexpensive
Get the Bun bo hue! My favorite spot for it!
Best vietnamese food around
Worst service ever, the waitresses completely ignored us.
Food tasted like they've reheated several times. Meat on pho tasted old and smelled bad and broth was milky which suggests that one of the meat (we ordered a house special) is really old. Fried rice was so bland. I'm not sure if we just went at the wrong time, bad batch, or what. I'm seeing lots of good reviews but we didn't get the same experience, unfortunately. We were the last customer they served before closing. I'll give two stars for fast service but terrible food. Will not be going back.
Best bbh I have ever ate and pho was good. Fast service
Perfect
The bun bo hue is amazing
I love the red curry with chicken here. The dishes are very large and can easily get 2 meals out of an entree
Best bun bo hue in the Chicagoland.
Good soup. Bo Hue is pretty spot on. Not as spicy as the one on North Ave., but still good.
Very good Vietnamese food. Peaceful & quiet place.
Large portions, fresh and bright flavors
Tasty pho!
Nice place
Heard about Bun bo Hue,mom tried it,broth is salty, the spiciness is not up to the level that ur eyes r tearing while ur r enjoying. Too much of lemongrass bits in broth! Please go easy on saltiness next batch! My nem nuong noodles r ok. Not much of my favorites, lil too sweet balls! Overall, service needs more improvements. Place is kinda blahs! Hate it while we eat & flies keep flying in to our food & they don't try to do anything about it . Dont like to see staff come out from kitchen and cleaning face with hand while checking out customers. Our first & last. Thank you!
Looks comfortable.
The "spicey" basil chicken was dry and bland. The pork meatballs were rubbery. The waiter made us wait and wait and wait.
Lo recomiendo
Bun bo hue is out of this world. Full of flavor and the portion was good. Crispy stir fried noodles were just okay but Crab Rangoon tasted delicious. The interiors are nice and service is pretty quick. Clean, spacious restaurant in Viet Town in the north side of Chicago, that should be on your list of places to eat if you are looking for some tasty Vietnamese food in Chicagoland.
Outstanding site for delicious vietnamese food. Service is excellent even when they are busy. Bring your appetite because portions are generous.
Vietnamese food, super tasty. visited fri evening i think. the bill was decent for the quality.
Pho is average here when compare to other places
Great bun bo hue, bun rieu, and bahn xeo.
After having tried many spots on Argyle over the years, this is best place. The service is attentive. The food authentic. The portions substantial. The prices reasonable. It's a large place, so it may not seem crowed; but the customer flow is very steady and discerning. The only drawback is that the menu is a bit limited - mostly pho/soup and rice dishes. Not a lot of simple stir fry. But . . . it's the best.
I just randomly walked in and like a zombie, ordered some random food but when I tasted the food that I was indeed well pleased didn't make me rate this restaurant 4 starts, I am because I'm remembering how each time I looked up, they were there ready to serve and making sure that I'm happy. It was well worth the buy.
One of the best places for Bun Bo Hue, a favorite Vietnamese soup containing rice vermicelli and beef in Chicago. The broth was authentically made with simmered beef and pork bones for many hours and lemongrass. The bowl included thin slices of marinated and boiled beef shank, chunks of oxtail, pig's knuckles, and cubes of congealed pig blood, which has a color between dark brown and maroon, and a texture resembling firm tofu. The restaurant had plenty of space inside, and the service is fine. I usually found free parking spots on the roads nearby.
I ordered the #23 - Bun Thit Nuong, a vermicelli noodle dish with grilled pork and shrimp on skewers, spring roll, and fresh herbs. To eat it, you pour the sweet tangy sauce into the bowl and mix them all up. This is my first time trying this popular Vietnamese dish and I must say I liked it a lot. You have your crunchy bits, barbecued flavors, different aromas, and clean tastes of the vermicelli noodle in a single bowl. I'm also a big fan of their spicy pork and shrimp salad. It had very strong flavors helped by a ton of fresh herbs, fish sauce, and spicy chilli. Can't wait to return next time to try their famous Bun Bo Hue.
Definitely 5 stars. The best bun bo hue I ever tried. This is what heals me on hangovers.
