Thai 55 is a locally owned and operated Thai restaurant in Chicago, Illinois, that serves authentic and delicious, Thai food that consists of curry, chicken, shrimp, and several other seafood dishes.
I honestly can’t rate as I ordered from them through Ubereats for the first time today.
But I can tell you I was very happy with the deal. They have a promo on ubereats buy one get one free for both the fried rice and potstickers .
The fried rice was delicious the shrimp ratio to rice was overly generous. The only thing was for some reason although the fried rice came at a ready to eat temperature; I had to reheat the potstickers they were cold but once heated up they were also very tasty. I do plan on ordering from that again and trying different dishes. Hopefully my potstickers will come warm next time because they were yummy!
Delivery is purely quantity over quality. Although the serving size of meals are good and have leftovers, they put little protein in comparison with the dish. Not a big fan of their pad Thai and ordered fried rice that came with a small amount of beef for both dishes.
DONT BOTHER!!!!! Worst Thai food in the US. I called in a order yesterday evening for pickup...but eating pile of garden weeds would've been a better culinary experience. Lets go worst to best:
Pad Thai w/pork- Whewww...what is my character limit? This was the worst excuse for Pad Thai I have every experienced. Please, for anyone reading this post take a look at the photo and tell me something right about the dish! It was extremely dry...so dry that the Thai noodles clumped together in one form. Zero sauce and remarkably bland. Zero heat, how is this Thai food? No Bean Spouts. No peanuts. Nothing but a bad time! Also I question if what was provided was actually pork in the dish. 0/10.
Basil Fried Rice w/chicken- The rice...the rice...the rice
Dunken Noodle- Immediately confused once I opened the container as nothing about the noodles were drunk or as I expected smothered in sauce, and there were hardly ANY noodles in the dish at all, and what was available were over cooked and thus mushy. The dish was mostly cabbage and other vegetables. The flavor was also VERY different from other Drunken Noodle dishes I've had in the past; it was extremely savory vs the sweet profile I've experienced in the past.
The Baby Vegetarian Egg Rolls- more than likely previously delivered frozen but the flavor was nice. However, the egg rolls were sooo throughly soaked in oil that each bite was accompanied by a squirt of canola oil.
Avoid this place.
The reviews have always said this place is not the best. My guy decided to order anyway. I ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice and Crab Rangoon. 1st it would be nice if they put a description of what's in the rice. Once I saw the rice, it had peas, green beans, and cashews... all ingredients I would have removed. You never know if someone has a nut allergy or can't have high fiber vegetables. However, there was no description or options to select of deselect ingredients in the rice. Nonetheless, I took my first bite....BLAND!! No flavor! I knew in that moment that I should have listened to the reviews. This place needs some help in the kitchen. Rice always needs flavor because it has none. I'm disappointed because this was a late night order, nothing else, that is healthy, is opened. Never again Thai 55! You all need to correct your food asap. The Crab Rangoon was just okay. I can see why it's buy 1 get 1.
Ordered for take out!
Placing the order was kind of awkward, conversations happening at a weird angle and at a larger distance than normal that you can't hear properly.
Tom Yum soup was okay in taste. However, the green curry was disappointing - lacked spices, even salt and tasted a bit sweeter. The portion size is good.
I think 5 or more times is enough for a fair, thorough, analysis of this place. Every time I receive food from here I am ALWAYS disappointed. Nothing I have tried here is good. The pad thai is terrible, the shrimp still has the tail on & sauce was wayyyy too sweet, never has what is advertised, and appears old. The sweet and sour shrimp is overly sweet. The curry is lacking flavor. The fried-rice usually tastes old. I literally feel sick this time. My smoothie wasn’t even good and had a hole in it. They mess up basic things. Won’t be back. Probably should have stopped spending my money here after the 2nd time.
I am really disappointed with my order from this restaurant. I ordered through Door Dash and will be leaving a review there as well. I ordered Pad Thai with beef which is supposed to have bean sprout, egg, green onion and chopped peanuts. Well......... at Thai 55 my Pad Thai came with no bean sprout, no chopped peanuts and no green onion, rather the Pad Thai came with unadvertised shredded cabbage that had the resemblence and crunchiness factor but not the flavor of bean sprout once stirred in and it wilted a bit that lead me to believe that this restaurant advertises one thing but serves up another with sustituted and or possibly inferior ingredients ( plainly put CHEATING!!!! ) Additionally I ordered fried Chicken wontons and recieved fried pot stickers instead ????
My Pad Thai sauce had spilled all out and on everything and everwhere at the bottom of my plastic bag covering the napkins and plastic cutlery too. That in itself was a new one for me ......super over sauced Pad Thai ????? I have never experienced Pad Thai like this ( this is not meant in a good or in a complimentary manner) The Pad Thai was the most disappointing because there was no green onion at all not even on top, no bean sprout and no chopped peanuts instead they placed shredded cabbage and carrots on the dish. This was not what was described or what I thought I was paying for.
You have to be careful ordering delivery because it seems that the restaurants take less care or don't care about the preparation of your food. This was disappointing to say the least.
Upon calling back and inquiring about the missing ingredients I was told that they don't put in green onion and the chopped peanuts is already mixed in ????? When I said that green onion is on your online and Door Dash menu he then says "someone made a mistake " and he was right ✅️ it was me for wasting my time and money on this lackluster experience. I was so perturbed I didn't even ask about why I was sent potstickers instead of the fried wonton. The potstickers were tolerable the Pad Thai was TASTELESS greasy and the noodles were chewy and coated in a super sweet red pasty type sauce that was overpowering . I don't know what else to say but NO !!!!!! I couldn't eat it
UPDATE 8-8-2023
Still NO Good !! My brother unbeknownst to me purchased me the Chicken Pad Thai. It was horrible and I immediately stopped after the first bite. I asked him where did you get this from not Thai 55 and he answered YES. The noodles are overcooked and the sauce is a red super sweet ketchup tasting flavorless concoction served with shredded cabbage a piece of lime and shredded carrot. I told him Thank you as I threw it in the trash where it belonged. Sad that this updated review remains unchanged.........well at least they are consistent with their lack of quality and dissappointment status
I had Pad See Ew with tofu and the Baby vegetarian egg rolls. Unfortunately, the Pad See Ew was NOT good. Absolutely, no flavor. I left it mostly uneaten. The Baby vegetarian rolls were okay. The duck sauce made them edible. When I mentioned how the Pad See Ew tasted to Jo, our waitress, she pleasantly said, "Okay" and nothing else. She did not offer to make it right or to make something else. The food was served in takeout containers and we were given styrofoam plates and plastic forks.
I was afraid to try anything else because if I tell you that something is not good and you don't try to make it right, that shows a lack of care. So, I cut my losses and left without giving a tip because I was left unsatisfied and hungry. That's enough.
My friend had the Tom Ka Kai. I tasted it and it was flavorful. She said, she may go back and get it to go but would likely make it at home.
I will NOT be returning here. I should have read the reviews beforehand. This place seems to be struggling and unfortunately it shows in the food and presentation.
We waited for over an hour to get our food only to find that it was bland and cold. Never coming back here again
Delivery is purely quantity over quality. Although the serving size of meals are good and have leftovers, they put little protein in comparison with the dish. Not a big fan of their pad Thai and ordered fried rice that came with a small amount of beef for both dishes.
Que horrible experiencia en este restaurante las personas son asiaticos y yo por ser latino me trataron mal horrible se creen más personas que los demás no entiendo como extranjeros quieren tratar mal otros extranjeros que dios y la vida le de lo que se merecen

This restaurant adjusts the total after you’ve paid and then refuses to allow you to cancel your order. I will never patron this restaurant again.
Horrible food, incompetent delivery people. Trust the reviews, don't spend your money here.

Good chicken fried rice. Good portion size for the price
Great service and people! Will be back!
BEST FOOD EVER!!! JO provides the best service ever and is the absolute sweetest. Come here if you want the best dinner/ lunch ever!!
I ordered food through a 3rd party app (Happy Panda) and it never arrived although my card was charged. Restaurant was totally unhelpful. I have no delivery confirmation and will be contacting my bank to cancel the credit card transaction. Buyer beware.
I am not sure why this place does not have better reviews. I always order the same dish. Indonesian chicken and shrimp curry. It is so delicious. They do leave the tails on the shrimp but they were nice sized and cooked to perfection. Their boba smoothies are also good.
I should have checked the reviews before ordering. My pad see ew tasted like a dirty baby wipe. What is going on in that kitchen?
Got three orders of basil fried rice. The sections of the rice was white and all of the rice was burnt. Quality was not there. Very surprised.

I loved the papaya salad.

I accidentally ordered from here. (I meant to order from Siam down the street - they are much better!). I haven’t ordered from Thai 55 in years because I got sick years ago after eating there. This time I picked my food up. Had to call out several times for someone to come to the front. My veggie Pad Thai looked thrown together, very sloppily packaged. No sauce in bag. There was something black (like grill soot) on the side of the container. I ate a little bit of my veggie Pad Thai and a few veggie egg rolls. I started getting a headache. I immediately threw it away. One of my co-workers said she saw roaches crawling on the wall when she ate there. Not clean!
The restaurant service is terrible. I ordered online for pickup. When I arrived, they told me they didn’t confirm online yet and would do it immediately. However they didn’t. I was standing there waiting. AFTER MORE THAN 10min, I asked again and one guy just responded they couldn’t take the order. If they can’t or don’t want to take the online order, they could have let customers know instead of wasting their time waiting!
This was my first time trying this restaurant. I enjoyed the Bangkok chicken and the Golden chicken. I like that the containers were slightly opened to allow the chicken to stay crunchy.
Ordered chicken pad Thai, this order didn’t come with any chili sauce, the peanut sauce was flavorless and watered down and the chicken in the pad Thai seemed like it was 2 days old and dry I will not be returning
Thank you!!!!
Just bad
Jo was very nice and the food was so great this is my second account 💯 will be coming back had shrimp fried rice and noodles
I don't understand why there dining room is still close... it was dead in there, no soft music.... Nothing.. but the food is okay..
They're back to how they used to be! Food is amazing again. Only downside is that their dining room is closed for use.
Absolutely the best place in the world to eat. I went here on a whim with my sister for a late dinner. We asked to dine in and they accommodated us although it was clearly a strange ask. One of the places really changed by the pandemic. Most folks were in and out grabbing door dash. How many small businesses adapted. But we dined in and we’re waited on by the absolute sweetest woman. She was short and had dark hair was was incredibly kind, the inspiration for this post. It seemed that she was glad to have people sitting down where she could see us enjoying the food. Small staff, good vibes 10/10
The curry was watery, the tempura was mushy, and the dish entry did not taste good...seems like they are stretching their dollars...
con·nois·seur they are out there and know the difference.
Unfortunately, my sister said she want be back. She told me the eatery is under new management. My daughter told me it's not good either. They both are con·nois·seurs. Oh well, I do believe in second chances. I would try one more time.
The service was excellent!
Recently ordered food thru Uber Eats on 1/14. The food my family was given wasn't good and I believe it was old because the next day we developed stomach aches and diarrhea. I still currently cannot hold any food now.
I ordered pineapple fried rice. They dumped so much curry powered on it I couldn’t eat it without rinsing it first. There was so much yellow powder in the strainer. Then it was spicy and I asked for mild. The egg roll was really good but I’ll never order the rice again.
Went in for an evening snack. The folks in there were pretty chill, and their fried rice, eggrolls, and crab rangoons hit the spot after a long jog. Their thai tea was a bit on the sweeter side, which I liked, so I ended up walking home feeling quite refreshed.
Love the food .
This place is horrible and tasteless!!! We paid $85.00 for Christmas dinner and couldn't even eat it!! NEVER AGAIN!!!
STRONG 2! But don’t order the beef. It’s not fresh. Appreciated this place being open on Xmas but I have nothing else remarkable to say about this place.
Food was great, had food poisoning for a few days after though.
Went with a friend for my birthday... and they had my favorite...sticky rice and mango.
I did not dine in I had my food delivered. I ordered pad Thai with beef, I didn’t like it the noodles were fine just missing the egg and green onions and not enough peanuts and also was missing the bean sprouts, but I didn’t like the meat. I also got the appetizer and the eggroll was good didn’t care for anything else. It was disappointing.
Ordered the chicken rolls. Awful. Greasy/ starchy. No chicken and no vegetables.Threw it in the garbage
We ordered the tofu pad thai and cashew beef, and we specifically requested it spicy. The service was on point! The person serving us was super warm and friendly, and we got our food really quickly. And the best part? The food was absolutely delicious! They definitely didn't hold back on the spice, so if you're a fan of heat, this place is for you. Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely come back for more. Highly recommend! 🌶️🍜
The only thing that tasted like I wasn’t eating stove top cleaner was the canned Diet Coke.
I order online Sunday paid
Total $60 delivery call the restaurant
I had forgotten to order a couple sodas $1.50 for 2 $3.00
Wanted me Oder more to us my credit card asked if he would
Just include the sodas he refused. Sorry to say Thai 55
Just lost my business over $3
On a $60 order….
food was bland payang was nasty
I ordered the pad Thai chicken. It was awful! This place should be closed for good! It was garbage! Yuck
Food was not good, customer service was pretty good
The Thai was just what I needed.
The Thai food was enjoyable and very filling. 😋

Tried panang curry with chicken. Overall just okay at best, and not up to the mark for the price. The choice of zucchini in the curry was very off and the vegetables seemed partially cooked.
I got takeout of the Panang curry with tofu, which came with rice. Decent curry but wish the base was a bit more flavorful. The vegetables mixed in were mostly zucchini and cabbage and pea pods, which I hadn’t seen before. More onions and peppers and broccoli would’ve been nice for texture.
Food was delicious ! Veggie egg rolls, salmon red curry, and pineapple curry chicken!!
This food was horrible! The tempura veggies were SUPER GREASY!!!! The beef fried rice was spoiled and I'm not sure if that was beef, it just didn't smell or taste right at all! It's in the trash and I pray that I don't get sick. 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢 I will NEVER order here again
Not too shabby, this place is quite quaint an establishment!!
The best Thai cuisine in the city. I've been dining there for years. Always amazing...
Worst Thai food I ever tasted. The first bite of each dish I purchased, right away, I knew I wasted my $47.00. One thing I must say is that the customer service was very, very nice.
Not worth the price food wasn't good
I hate writing bad reviews. I know restaurants are just trying their best right now. But this experience was just not great and as I read, I think other people have had similar ones.
I ordered delivery off of their own website. They forgot my smoothie and I called the delivery driver right when I opened my bag - he told me to go to the restaurant and that he just brought what was given to them - ok. I ordered delivery specifically because I did not want to go out and pickup my food - as one does. I call the restaurant and they say they can give me a credit for next time because the driver is already delivering another person's order - disappointing but what can you do.
The pad thai was pretty bland and had a weird dishsoap/dishwater taste to it. Crab Rangoons were flavorless and very oily and the wantons were only half cooked. Portion size and speed of delivery were the only redeeming qualities for me. I am so sad - I wanted to like this food so bad. :/
I'm recovering from surgery and my friend asked me what I wanted. I selected Thai 55 through uber eats. I got the potstickers which were on special buy 1 get 1 free and the chicken pad See ew. The potstickers were okay but definitely disappointed in the pad See ew. It is supposed to be the protein of choice, rice noodles, eggs, broccoli and sweet soy.
There is no hint of sweet in what I received. The rice noodles are overcooked. They break when you pick them up with the plastic fork. The dish is overall peppery. I will try to doctor it up because food is too expensive to waste. But I do not recommend.
Dine-in area was closed on a Friday night. We went elsewhere.
The worst Thai food I’ve ever had…The pad Thai tasted like vomit, I cannot think of anything worse than that. The crab rangoon is also horrible. Save your money, save your tongue
Very poor customer service!
Thai curry was really tasty, good amount of spice. The spicy chicken fried rice was delicious. I definitely recommend!
Inedible. Doesn’t matter the dish you ordered, It’s all soy sauce.
I have had their food several times and each time there is some issue -- wrong order (fried rice instead of pad thai), bad ingredients (no fresh noodles for the drunken noodles), but yesterday took the cake -- their pad thai gave me an awful bout of food poisoning. There are two other Thhai restaurants on this block that are quite good; there is no reason to ever patronize Thai 55
Food poisoning there yesterday from chicken fried rice. Horrible.
Seems like it really depends what you order here. I had the baby veggie egg rolls and they're amazing probably best I've ever had. It's a good thing they were filling though because my main dish was the garlic tofu and it's essentially inedible. It tastes like burnt, super concentrated soy sauce. It wasn't spicy at all and barely had any garlic, nothing like any garlic sauce dish I've ever had. Even mixing the rice into the sauce couldn't fix it, I couldn't take more than a few bites.
The food will do the job if you need thai food but for those that love thai food this is maynot be the place for you. Thai 55 offers watered down (literally) versions of curry dishes.
This Thai 55th has nothing on the Original Thai 55th from the early 2000's.
Food was ok but not yummy.
Quick delivery- excellent peas rhau excellent Bangkok shrimp - get extra sauce no matter what you order never not pleased my go to place
Vegetable tempura is always great
I have been a faithful customer for months until today. Today, I ordered basil fried rice and it immediately made me nauseous. I have a terrible headache and nothing is staying down. It feels like I have food poisoning. I notified Door Dash as well. I am so disappointed in this restaurant.
Delicious food long wait time but totally worth it
I hope this place will open soon for dine-in.
Terrible quality of pad see ew. Seems like they used ketchup for the sauce. I ordered on Uber eats today and expected something nice coming from Hyde Park. Terribly disappointed to see these reviews. I should have checked here before putting my order through Uber.
Never tried Thai food and asked what they recommend. Ended up with duck curry. Told the woman I eat anything but pineapple. She assured me no pineapple. Well, hunks of pineapple in my curry. Please after reading reviews, dont base your Thai experience based on this place.
Always fresh. Love they actually use size of meat you can see in the fried rices. Got the appetizer sampler also good. Menu HUGE.
Placed an order on grubhub and after waiting 30 mins already I decided to go in the restaurant to see if the food was done and the guy tells me to wait 10 more minutes because they hadn’t even accepted the order yet. The guy was loud with me and trying to hurry up to get me out of the restaurant. Receiving this type of treatment as a black person did not sit well with me.
Tom Yum with Shrimp always good!
Amazing Thai Food! I wish we could dine it but its good.
Inauthentic...couldn't even recognize the dishes
The rice and shrimp was to the roof. I would go back there again if I am in Chicago
The place is great for a quick bite and for late night dining. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual. The service is excellent with food being brought out fast. The food is taste, however, the portions are on the smaller size compared to similar restauraunts.
As a side note, like most restauraunts in this area, parking can be difficult and costly. This is not a fault of the restauraunt and is true to most places in Chicago.
If I could give this place no stars..... Just took my money. I paid 38.32 for some garbage food. I was super hungry too. I order a dish called Combination Bangkok. It was supposed to be slightly battered chicken and shrimp with grilled veggies.... Instead I had battered everything. They freaking battered the vegetables which was all soagy and had the dish made like sweet and sour battered dish all smooshed in a box. Then I had ordered 2 chicken eggs for 5.00 and that was horribly not fresh all burnt at the ends and the oil needed to be changed . I ordered 2 veggie egg rolls and they charged me 5.75 and that was greasy nasty as well. Had a noodle dish and that was not great at all... I am so sick of these restaurants keep uping the prices and the food prepared and sold is absolutely ridiculous.
You get home with the meal trusting they will do right because they need the money to stay a float. And we as the customer and consumer would like to treat ourselves outside of cooking at home.
I could have just slapped them with this meal
And the restaurant next door Ken's Chinese food terrible to. They are next to get there Big ole 0... I tried them the day before. So find you another place to try.... This ain't it!
I was mildly underwhelmed with the size of the portions BUT the flavor more than made up for it.. I had the garlic beef, sweet and sour chicken, and peapod chicken and they were all delicious.. the fried rice was good but the most fabulous dish was the beef salad.. I wasn't expecting the red and green peppers, honestly I'm not even a fan of red peppers, but I ate every bit that ended up on my fork.. I've had a LOT of Thai beef salads but this was the only takeout one that was top notch.. the food came hot and faster than expected, the kids are happy, I'm happy and life is great 👍
Great red curry, satay chicken and fried squid
One word...Delicious!
I visited this restaurant during a lunch break in the area. I placed my order at the counter and sat down at a table. When I received my food packaged to go I thought it was kind of odd (and wasteful) but sat down to eat it. Apparently it was a mistake to dine in because the owner got into a huff. Mind you a few minutes ago she was smiling at me as I interacted with her child relative as I ordered.
Long story short: the owner had a nasty attitude because I dared to dine in and eat my food. There were two other customers dining in so I didn't see the big deal. If you don't want people to dine in either tell them and/or consider if you really need to own and operate a sit down restaurant. The food was mediocre on top of the nasty attitude. Needless to say I won't be back.
Not very flavorful.
Delicious 😋
Horrible food and cold? They lack integrity saying it was the drivers fault. I ordered food at approximately 440p and it arrived at approx 515. Call taker even became beligerent yelling it was the driver fault. So sad. The cold azz food will be back at them soon as they open, never 2 return again. We work hard for our money only for them 2 B.S us and sell garbage. UN FRIGGIN BELIEVABLE!
Food is always fresh. Service is pretty good and prices decent. Carry out only currently due to covid19
Bagkok chicken was soggy, very little sauce and lacking in taste. Eggs rolls were filled with oil very little filling. Very disappointed.
Been sick for two days after eating the food here, listen to the reviews and avoid this place! I ordered the Tom ka Kai soup and the Bangkok chicken and it was awful and I only ate a small amount before tossing it. Call a health inspector folks. Please stop serving ppl bad food❗️
I ordered SATAY CHICKEN, PAD THAI, COMBINATION FRIED RICE, and ASSORTED VEGETABLES…..Satay noodles were over cooked, fried rice and vege dish BLAND!!
I've never left a restaurant review in my entire life until now. The pad thai was so terrible, I felt like I had to warn y'all. It was the wrong type of noodle and it was so dry and lacked any flavor. Thai is my favorite cuisine and every now and then I'll encounter a restaurant that is 'not great' or just 'decent', but it is always at least somewhat appetizing and I can make myself finish the meal. Unfortunately I can't say that about this place -- I threw my food in the garbage, lol.
The food was pretty good here. I got takeout and the wait time was about 20 minutes, so not too bad.
I ordered the fried vegetables and a dish with tofu...that for some reason had large pieces of chicken in it. 😔😑 So that was very disappointing.
Delicious 😋
Tempura veggies and shrimp were so greasy, i could squeeze them and get a puddle. The noodle soup was ok. Nothing overwhelming.
2 because that the number of Soy Sauce they gave us with 2 large Shrimp Fried Rice...
Terrible terrible terrible!! First the food took 30 minutes longer then they said it would. Got home and EVERYTHING was overcooked! The egg rolls were burnt and inedible. The pad Thai was overcooked and the noodles stuck together. The chicken satay was almost charred. They knew when they packed my bag that this was unacceptable. $61 down the drain. I should've went to Snail but gave these people a chance. I regret my decision. Terrible! NEGATIVE 1000 STARS!
The food here is fine. Don't order if you love Thai food or are very familiar with it.
Long-time fan, first-time reviewer. This is my favorite thai place in Hyde Park. They accommodate my preferences and often spoil me with extra peanut sauce and chili paste. The owner and staff are friendly, efficient, and the food always comes out hot and fresh and tasty! I order directly from them when I'm getting take-out and they are so appreciative! So please do call them directly when you wish for takeout or pickup, it supports their business model. Long live Thai 55!
First time ever writing a review. This was the worst curry I ever had in my life.
I Love Thai food. The food was prepared fast and good.
My favorite happy food☺
Very good food!!
I just ordered from them , and I informed the gentleman that I was ALLERGIC to all spices, and he lied to me, and when I returned home the food was to spicy to eat, this gentleman expressed to me, that he has no INTEGRITY, and I spent $18.00 , at this establishment. Please do not purchase ANYTHING from folks without INTEGRITY in this COVID environment!
It was awful. The Bangkok chicken pieces were as long as my forearm and the meat was more dense than steak. I don’t think it was even chicken. Also there was not a single chili in the dish. Gross.
Dry and less flavor than the other two Thai spots on the same street
The food is good but it is not worth waiting an hour to an hour and a half for. There’s always a bunch of angry people inside waiting for their orders. It’s an every day thing and I’ve seen this enough times to say I probably won’t return. There’s plenty of other Asian restaurants nearby with less wait times.
Great Curry Chicken tonight!
Rice was good service was OK I liked eating with the chopsticks
It's just not good. Pad thai looked odorless and colorless while the beef was tough
The food is...not so good. Especially the noodles.
The Pad Thai is too thick and doesn’t have the slippery taste of oil. Pad Thai should be thin rice noodles spread out with oily taste but noodles in Pad Thai here seem to stick together.
Meanwhile, my Samsahai tastes way too sweet than it should be. The beef is overcooked and not tender at all. The taste of pepper is completely obscured, and I think they have too much sugar in the noodle.
I’d not recommend the noodles there, though I’m not sure about others.
Just bad food. Pad see ew tasted like black pepper and nothing. Spend your money elsewhere
Food is average
Everytime I come here they take care of me. I love this hyde park staple.
Sept 10.2020. I gave Thai 55 another try after my Sept 3 incident. I ordered the Bangkok combination,
egg rolls and Laa Nad with Chicken.. Laa Nad and egg rolls were delicious...Bangkok combo...NOT! Same as the vegetable tempura from a week prior, it was burnt, hard and over cooked not to mention it had one piece of popcorn shrimp and no chicken. Im convinced they do not know how to fry battered food...two times in row is not acceptable.
Previous post September 3.2020 My pickup of chicken basil rice, red curry chicken and cucumber salad went well and was delicious but the vegetable tempura tasted and felt as if they were refried, not edible and extremely hard..almost like eating an very old and hard tollhouse chocolate chip cookie mixed with concrete. My poor presentation of tempura which is normally, light and crunchy, this was the complete opposite. It should have been very obvious when it was given to me that it was over cooked or recooked. Not acceptable.
A million noodles. No peanut sauce. And five shrimp in the Pad Thai! Very dry. Never again. 👎🏽
Took over an hour to get my food via door dash. Very slow!
Ordered Bangkok combination, thai pepper steak and chicken egg roll for $32...What a waste of money...Bangkok meal only has 2 breaded chicken and shrimp the rest were breaded broccoli and onions. The pepper steak was So Hard it almost made my teeth bleed. The egg roll was basically 1 small piece of chicken wrap...NEVER AGAIN!!!
Never had a drier, more sad looking pad thai. The pork was obviously rewarmed from before, the noodles didn't have any flavor, there was no sauce to keep the whole thing together. Dry and tasteless, what a terrible combination. Run, don't walk away from this place.
Nice Thai food, service, and delivery; however, food can come off as kind of bland without extra sauces.
Food is delicious but overly sweet. If you're not a fan of sweet Thai food, heads up!
Good food!!
I always love this place they have vegetable tempura and shrimp tempura that I love
Coconut shrimp was very good!
The pad Thai was way too spicy. had my nose running. the spring rolls aren’t even spring rolls AT ALL!!! the food is bland. The spring rolls are literally flower tortillas wrapped in veggies!! not what’s advertised AT ALL!!
Not cheap
30 minutes for vegetable fried rice at the end of the night with no other customers there, no explanation and no apology.
#604 and #605 from menu has been twice cooked too hard (overcooked).
Great Thai food at a good price
Total waste of $29!
Just a greasy mess. Literally. I ordered the vegan pad thai...baby veggie eggrolls and Bangkok veggies mild. The pad thai was tolerable...the Bangkok veggies were just LARGE pieces of mostly onion and carrot. The baby veggie egg rolls...complete grease trap as you can see. Food going in the trash...I wouldn't give this grease bomb to anyone. 😒😔
Food never disappoints
Tasks like they have not changed the oil in a while. Misleading, looks like a nice place but food taste like the fast food pick up places. It is with it to take a drive to Opart on State.
It didn’t smell good Lon the way home. Should not have eaten it.
I placed an order through grub hub and the restaurant canceled my order. Then, GH takes 5-10 days to return your money. The restaurant said they cancelled because their driver doesn’t got That far....which is why I ordered through grub hub to begin with!!!!!
This place actually rebranded to a Chinese food restaurant called southside ken! It's great food at reasonable prices!
Very unfortunate experience. The pad Thai was truly unappetizing pasty overcooked noodles with a bland greasy sauce and the tempura appetizer was anything but. Never go there again!
The service was pretty good, but it wasn't too busy either.
For food, I ordered the yellow curry with chicken, which comes with a side of white rice by default. It was alright, but it isn't exactly close to more authentic Thai restaurants.
For drink, I ordered a Thai iced tea, which was a bit closer to what I'm used to, but still a bit off. This one had a little too much cream.
This is an okay place to eat at, but if you're craving authentic-tasting Thai food, I'd recommend Opart. If you don't care that much about authentic taste, then this will get you by.
Great food
