Thai standards & some innovative creations served in a cute, cozy space with late-night hours.
As the ultimate destination for authentic Thai cuisine, this restaurant excels, offering classic dishes such as rice porridge accompanied by complementary sides that showcase the nation's culinary richness. Its unassuming size conceals an expansive menu and exceptional service that surpass expectations. I look forward to returning; thank you for a memorable dinner experience tonight.
Ended up here pretty late at night. Opened until 12:30 am. Small, quintessentially the place to eat. The service was fantastic. The young man that was taking orders, for dine in and to go orders was very informative about what was what. His suggestions were absolutely what I was craving. I got the glass noddle with crab and shrimp. I asked for it spicy which isn’t advertised as spicy but it was not a problem. And it was the perfect spicy. My lady had the me see veggie plate with shrimp and that was so fresh with the veggies cooked perfectly and the shrimp was definitely large shrimp. Table next to us got a fermented pork short rib and offered me a bite. Just wow. We started off with the shrimp dumpling and veggie rolls. And fried calamari. When I tell you everything was cooked perfectly and the flavors were out of this world, believe that that they were. I highly recommend trying this place out. Go asap! I’ve added pictures of the menu so you’ll know what you want once you get there. Enjoy yall!!
I have never been to a restaurant that so consistently messes up my order. I'm not exaggerating when over half of the times (10+) I've ordered takeout from here I've arrived home to discover rice instead of noodles. Over and over. I told myself I'd never come here again, but I don't like to hold grudges. I decided to give them another chance in 2025 because their food is truly excellent, but I would order in person and wait for my meal. I trusted them. That was a mistake. I should have checked my order before I got home because, sure enough, there was rice instead of noodles.
It's not the person at the counter. It's the person in the kitchen. I checked the receipt this time, and it clearly said noodles.
I will never come here again.
Update: food is still awesomely good and they renovated the walk and changed some decoration. I’m posting pics of the food this time, it is a must!!!!
Original review: Authentic Thai food in Chicago. Tried not alone, but with Thai friends, and we were all amazed by the quality, the flavor, and the price of the food! I am now a regular at Me Dee!
This is a smaller restaurant that has around 5 tables and seems popular with takeout orders too. I go here a lot since it's good food, opens late, and has pretty authentic Thai options. The price is decent too.
I have ordered pad see ewe, panang curry, firecracker chicken, crispy tofu salad. All were good. Love to try their other entrees too.
The food is authentic and the atmosphere is chill! It opens until midnight, such a late night saver.
Although their menu seems like the same dishes in English and Thai, but they are different food, be patience on the Thai menu because they are delicious. And if you’re not sure the combination, ask the server, she’s kind and knowledgable~
We had such a good time and will be back for sure.

The food is good but significantly overpriced for what it is.
Best thai style dishes!
This was my first Thai spot when I moved to Ravenswood and I keep coming back. Great, fast, reliable, and delicious!
The food was very good but I asked for extra egg and they didn't put any in. Los cocineros hablando lo ponemos o no.
Great pad Thai and the Tom Kha is to die for!!!
2022 edit:
Still has amazing food and some of the best crab rangoons in Chicago.

every time I come here I am happy, satisfied, and impressed with the food here. I can come with friends, family, or just myself. The Tom Kha soup is to die for and so good to warm up on a fall day.

Great late night Thai street food. Love this as a destination and a fall back when other nearby restaurants won't serve us because they close in 45 minutes. Been there twice. Loves everything we ordered. Lots of vegi options
Just had the pad see ewe and it was flavorful bite for bite, absolutely recommend. Oh and my girlfriend loved her chicken pad Thai too!
Best bathroom i have ever seen in my entire life

Our favorite Thai food that we’ve had for casual take-out in Chicago! And we’ve tried a LOT of places in the ravenswood/ lakeview/ Lincoln park neighborhoods. This is our go-to spot now.
Nice cheap spot for late night thai food.
The pad Thai was AMAZING!! I can’t wait to come back!
Edit: I returned to this restaurant this week and the experience completely turned around. Our entree’s arrives at very separate times, we didn’t get our drinks until after our food was finished, and they never even brought us our appetizer but it was still on the bill when we went to pay. Maybe this place is fine during hours they are not busy, but when there was just two other tables in the restaurant at the same time the restaurant seemed unable to keep up with service . The pad Thai was still good but because if everything else I don’t think I’ll be returning
We have been ordering from Me Dee for over five years and I kid you not the consistency is unbelievable. Always good. Always fast. Always inexpensive. You cannot beat Me Dee’s price. Late hours are also a plus. Go to’s are the cashew chicken, pad see ew chicken with extra brocc, almond pad Thai chicken, and panang curry. The chive dumplings are delish too. It truly never disappoints and if we ever order Thai from somewhere else we usually end up saying “Me Dee is so much better.”
Got there at 11 pm and was happily surprised with the extensive menu and friendly service. We were the only people at this small place, but while we ordered and had dinner there were maybe 10 to 12 take-out orders prepared and picked up. A couple of them were large.
I came because google maps said they have pho. This place is Thai, not Vietnamese, so no pho, but they are good at what they do have. We had fried Chinese sausage, glass noodle pork and cabbage soup, and celery tilapia, which has a lot more than just celery.
A familiar feel called home.
You don't have to have travelled to Thailand or lived there to be drawn to this place and wrapped blanket of comfort food. The setup is pretty minimalistic. It's tucked away in a corner.
But just go in and be ready to be blown away by the food, hospitality and more food.
Vegans/ Vegetarians: This place is awesome.
the chive dumplings are the best way to start of any meal.
I have a soft corner for Pad Kee mao and this place knocks it out of the park.
the Veg version is even better.
The green curry or the panang curry. either way you never go wrong.
Now for the Stand outs:
If you like crab, do try the crab fried rice. The spicier you ask, the tastier it gets. Its my go to hangover cure.
The Veg Lad Nar is actually the best thing on the menu, even for meat eaters.
This late night spot has to be on your radar.
go check it out and let me know if you like it.
I used to get Me Dee a few times a month and I liked it. Then I moved to a different state and now I appreciate how great this place really is.
Good service great coffee, we will be returning
Great food great service.

Decent food. open late
Me Dee Cafe is a delightful culinary discovery. Their menu offers a tasty variety of dishes, all bursting with flavor. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff make it a perfect spot for a relaxed meal. For delicious food and a warm ambiance, Me Dee Cafe is a must-visit. Can't wait to return!
Food was decent but the price for the portion of food is ridiculous. I don't know how this place stays in business! Don't order from this place if your hungry! They also lack good customer service.
Local Thai Restaurant that stays open late. The restaurant is a favor among Thais for its rice soup dishes and spicy salads. Many of these dishes can be ordered off the Thai menu. Some of my favorites: salty egg salad, chinese sausage salad, fried fish, and nam fried omelette. The cafe is quite small. The restaurant is clean and cozy. Great food always.
The food was a solid 7.8/10. Some of the most authentic Thai food that I've had, so the flavors and tastes were pretty satisfying, but wouldn't describe it as perfectly appealing. But with the environment, the place was a good 8.4/10. The prices were decent for the quantity and quality. But like I said, the environment, with all the people, the place is very cozy and it felt like home.
The food is great, the people are super nice, and it’s very cute inside. Great that it’s open late as well.
Delicious food, fast, and not too expensive. The staff was extremely helpful since I am not familiar Thai cuisine. I definitely will come back again.
the panang curry and phad thai were full of flavor
4 stars because the beef in the panang was a little overcooked.
The waitress we're so nice and accommodating.
Delicious tarm sang style restaurant, highly recommend 😍
Update: food is still awesomely good and they renovated the walk and changed some decoration. I’m posting pics of the food this time, it is a must!!!!

i love this place . the food is very delicious.
i like Ms. Gale ! She very sweet heart and take care excellent perfect for customers servers. 💯 point .
Good food; but on my last visit it took forever. The English-language menu (including the one available online and on take-out apps) is missing a lot that's offered on the Thai menu.
Noodles were so good! I got crispy udon with red curry and tom kha soup it was amazing
This is the best Thai restaurant in Chicago hands down. My wife and I moved here from the east coast and have tried over 15 thai places in the city but most were just mediocre, until we found this place. Place the is small and cozy but the food is amazing which is why we keep coming back!
The food is fabulous. Recommended
Discrimination to people of color, Misleading customer service, and ignorant hospitality.
After making my order and visiting this place for the first time in my neighborhood - I was refused/denied seating to dine and eat inside.
I was told my order ($14 Pad Kee Mao) was only a "to-go" order when I wasn't asked if I want to dine in or not (while people were clearly eating); there were 3 empty tables available therefore I sat to indicate I was going to eat inside.
Waited for my food and the host/server told me to leave while simultaneously seating a non-person of color and welcoming his visit and taking his order immediately.
Her words was "the rules are you can't eat here after you make your order" emphasizing and assuming my order was automatically "To-go" .
The race card is rarely my move or area of defense, yet this was completely unnecessary and targeted. Extremely disgusted with this restaurant group, their leadership, and customer service style.
Absolutely love the food here. And their presentation.
This is my favorite Thai restaurant in the city, and I have tried an insane amount of them. Fresh, flavorful, and tasty
Do not order the Lad Nar!
The red curry is to die for
Food is great, perfect portion sizes, fast and friendly service. I’ve found a new favorite. Being open late is a definite plus.
Food was good..., although the woman server charged wrong prices ...., when we figured it out being too much ,,, she said those were old prices , and they were waiting for new menus, sooooo she should of told us that right from the start, but instead she tried to pocket extra money from us( she probably thought we wouldn't notice especially if we were paying with a card). We paid with 💸 cash.😠
Congee is great. Ask for it as it may not be on the regular menu.
Pros: open late, reasonably priced, quickly prepared, parking is easy making carry out even easier,
Cons: meat to noodle ratio, sometimes food is a little dry
Their redeeming choices - in my opinion - is the Almond Pad Thai and their Thai Coconut Milk Custard. Both items are worthwhile and will encourage you to return, again!
Speedy, friendly, and delicious! Love their veggie egg rolls!
I'm a somewhat frequent customer of Mee Dee's and have never been let down. Their food is pretty good for the price. I usually do take out, and recommend their Almond Pad Thai and Red Curry. They make really good wings too, if you want to add an appetizer to the mix.
My favorite Thai restaurant in the neighborhood
Im reviewing this place compared to similar places in the area. Its a no frills small Thai restaurant, very simple interior. I usually do pickup.
The food is very decent for the price.
I really like Panang Curry. They don’t give you enough of the white rice (way more curry than rice), but i think it’s still great. You can easily break it into two meals.
They make your pickup pretty fast, so usually there are no issues timing wise.
Lava Calamari is pretty great, the spicy sauce that comes with is my favorite.
The staff is nice! Overall no complaints!
It’s a hidden gem (bit hesitant to make other people find it hehe). very authentic food, maybe the seat are not comfortable but the food is great! And you can bring your own alcohol. I’m exploring the menu every time and I liked most of the items so far.
pad see ew is my favorite as well as Tom ka soup .. you won’t get wrong with these two.
Also you can ask for Thai menu they have more cool stuff to explore.
They close really late which is perfect I hope they keep it this way! It’s a huge plus for late diner or late decisions!
Authentic thai cuisine 10/10
As soon as I tasted the Tom Yum I wasn’t thinking of anything other than eating. I got Garlic Beef with Basil and when I say this is the best Thai. All of the flavors are perfectly balanced. No extra seasoning or sauce needed. I am genuinely surprised and delighted, especially at this price point ($6 for the soup, $10 for the beef). GET SOME.
Delicious!
Good food, open late.
The curried seldom and vegetables over brown rice was great even better as leftovers.
The place serves quick dishes and all are great...! We are Thai and asked for real Thai taste, no sugar as in all American dishes normally have in their everyday dish. Well they did it for us. As the second visit, we got less sugar in our all dishes... We will be there again like forever fan. We ordered a lot but didn't keep much of the photos...

Very delicious and food is very yummy. The suburbs doesn't have anything aa good as the Thai restaurant in Chicago
Delicious side dish 😊🤤
The food is so good, reasonably priced, and good portions. Even my picky dad loved the food here. The pineapple fried rice awesome and the basil beef! Also the owner or whoever was working today was very very nice. Good food+ good customer service= will be frequent customer.
The best thai restaurant we have ordered from!
Me Dee Cafe is the place to go for Thai food in Chicago.
Is prepared quickly, and delicious. Loved the Almond pad thai. Husband loves the Kee Mao. But what won us over was the employee who took our order and was so kind and answered our questions about spice level. Seems simple but it put a smile on our faces!
Best Thai food in the Ravenswood/Andersonville area. Decent prices and portions you can actually eat without having leftovers
I can be picky about thai food but this for sure is my neighborhood spot. The food is yummy, open late, and everyone I met there is super lovely. I recommend eating here.
Amazing Thai food. Wanted Thai for our new year eve get together dinner and was not disappointed. For an appetizer we ordered potstickers, chive dumplings and Egg roll. Vegetarian served with spicy sweet & sour peanut plum sauce. Tofu was light and airy with a good crisp to it and the sauce really made it shine. We ordered two main dishes, both were large portions. One was the Curried fired rice chicken and It was spicy with a nice flavor . The other dish was the pad see eiw with chicken. Good flavor, added chili paste since I like it hotter. Great meal. PS - Beware of spice level. Medium spicy is SPICY!! Portions are small for 10$. Overall Good
Me Dee is a wonderful neighborhood gem. The service is friendly and attentive. The food is exceptionally delicious. They fully warmed my heart and belly.
Thank you, Me Dee!
Great tasting food, great price and open late!! I love this place
Tasty home-style Thai food at a reasonable price.
I went there with my friend today and let me tell you what the waitress did to us , she was in a bad mood, rude, angry and disrespectful and she trow our food on the table and walk away....... yes she did that!!.
I hate when an small business like this one with a delicious and authentic food, hires people like this waitress/ manager that ruins all the hard work a chef is doing in the kitchen, it will take a while for us to come back again, feel sorry for that unhappy woman
The food is always good but the service is extremely poor and rude. It seems the waitress is always forced to be there.
It is a very small, no frills, neighborhood Thai joint. I had the beef with broccoli. It wasn't bad. Attitude of the hostess/waitress could be better. I visited this place few years ago and didn't come back because of her attitude. She didn't change and probably never will. If you need a quick bite, this place will do.
We had party dinner at me dee cafe on Monday night in October. The food were scrumptious. Recommend you to try rice soup the authentic Thai food.
I asked for my food without mushrooms and the waitress took back my food and a minute later gave me back the same plate. It's still had a few mushrooms. I'm pretty sure they just picked off the mushrooms from the top of my food and gave it back to me TWICE.
In a neighborhood with many, many Thai restaurants, the food here stands out among them. I recommend the chive dumplings and the pork stix!
Food so good this place the make like Thai traditional so yummy
Tom Yum soup was very tasty, shrimp version comes with 4 shrimp. Chive dumplings are very good as well, and comes with a nice light, sweet, dark sauce. Open till 1 am, perfect for late dinners or after a couple drinks!
Nothing better than me dee cafe when you are craving Thai food at midnight. You can also order delivery using Grubhub, worth the delivery fee.
Solid service, excellent Thom Ka soup
Large portions. Great food.
Good, unusual Thai dishes amongst the usual choices.
Good food and nice environment.
Little gem to get Thai food. Pad thai noodles on point along with their wings and shrimp fried rice.
Good Thai food. Nice little gem
Best crab fried rice I ever had!
ร้านขายข้าวต้มรสชาติเหมือนที่เมืองไทย
Good value and open late.
The food is so good! Save room to get the Roti for dessert.
I love this place... My food is fresh and very warm as I like to have it... A cozy place with reasonable price..
Great little spot for some quick and delicious Thai Food! I’m a night owl and I live across the street! The quality and convenience of this place is great! Highly recommend it!
Best egg drop soup Iv ever had, they really take it to the next level. Also, everything in general is just well made and tasty.
We decided to try Me Dee because the reviews set it apart from most of the other Thai restaurants in the neighborhood. While not a peanut-free restaurant, I was pleasantly surprised to see that some traditional dishes were prepared that way. They use almonds instead of peanuts in their pad thai which allowed me to try this dish for the first time.
In addition to the pad thai, we ordered the seaweed salad, mini eggrolls, and an interesting macaroni dish with tomato sauce, egg, peas, tomatoes, and onion. Everything was fantastic.
The location is cozy with only a handful of tables. Our server was very attentive and personable throughout our meal. Given the amount of delivery and takeout they seem to do, I appreciated that we never felt rushed.
We'll be back.
Man how convenient. Let's say you've gone to the movies and you're heading home and it's midnight and you're starving. Most places are closed but not Me Dee. They're open until 2am because they know that someone, somewhere is starving and too lazy to cook food they have in their own apartment.
Okay, surely a place that's open this late has subpar food, I hear you say. I actually have to disagree with that. Every time I go there I'm only upset that I didn't order more food. (And it's not because they don't give me a fair amount of good, it's because I'm a glutton with never ending hunger.)
I think the prices are reasonable, that people are friendly, and they're also the only place nearby that sells Thai Iced Tea. They almost got 5 stars on that alone.
Really good food at a reasonable price, especially for a place that’s open so late. I had the trio mushroom salad and the shrimp patties. Both were very enjoyable.
Good food, nice service
Cool little place, late hours, good food. BYOB.
Worst place ever, the staff were so rude, incredibly mean. I'm really a very nice and friendly person, but i never felt disrespected that much in any country i lived in, in my life.
I wish i never chose to go there, and i hope no one will get the same experience. Totally disrespectful
Incredible food.
Really really love this restaurant. They have very delicious food options (and so many!) and really good desserts. My favorite items are probably the green curry, and their roti dessert with banana and condensed milk. The actual location is small but cute, and the service is always very friendly. I've come in with my boyfriend (who is Thai) and he tells me that they have another menu specifically in Thai that has extra options. I'm so curious about them! Hopefully one day they'll put them all together so I can expand my tastebud horizons! Will always come back to this place. A great bonus is that theyre open really late.
Excellent Thai food at reasonable prices
Great food, open late
Thai food by Thai people - this place is quietly great.
Good place surprising low prices small and comfortable and open late.
Real Thai food.
They have different menus. You can ask for the real Thai one.
Inexpensive and tasty food. Loved the Mac and cheese as well as pot stickers. No alcohol so bring your own
Decent food, great staff, and nice quaint storefront restaurant. The quality has gone down in the past few years though.
My favorite place
goodfood
Excellent thai food with some modern twists. Fried noodles soaked in curry are delicious, and they aren't shy with the heat.
Great food in a tiny place. Has the game on too if you're into sports.
