A friendly Thai restaurant in Old Town, Chicago opened in 2018...
We offer great selections of Thai classic dish and some unique authentic made from scratch items.
A delicious, but unknown Thai restaurant to us until early Nov 2024. We were the lonesome diners dining-in at the restaurant on a Friday evening at 6:15pm, but they had a relatively steady set of customers doing take-out. The seating area is very simple and clean. Their tofu Khao Soy was delicious! I would love to go back and also make use of their BYOB.
Visited during an unexpected rain in the summer. Partner and I got the appetizer sampler that had , wontons+ crab ragoons +shrimp shumai + tofu + I believe fried gyoza chicken. The gyoza , shrimp shumai, and ragoons were good! The wontons had very little filling , and tofu just is not for me in general . The appetizer sampler might be a pass next time , glad I got to try the options. Main dish I got was Pad Thai and I requested it spicy . It was very delicious !! They give you good crunchy fresh carrots and bean sprouts on top, with some crushed peanuts and lime on the side . Very good dish over all 5/5. My partner got the Sweet Chilli with beef , he said he enjoyed it as well, mentioning the sauce as the star of the plate . We also ordered the Thai Iced Coffee for a drink and it got better as I drank it . By the end I wanted more . Overall I would say this restaurant gets a 3.5/5 , slightly pricey but to be expected when eating out . I enjoyed my meal and was satisfied . Thank you Hon Mali Thai! I hope to get more Pad Thai from here soon.
A hole in the wall. Grabbed lunch with a friend here and in that time not one other person came in to eat. I’m surprised that this place isn’t busier.
We got the tom yum fried rice and the Khao soy. The tom yum had perfectly cooked shrimp on top of a generous amount of rice. The shrimp paste added a nice flavor and the mushrooms were good. Everything paired nicely together giving a very enjoyable dish.
The Khao soy was tasty with a nice balance of shallots, chicken, and noodles. My only suggestion would be to add more curry as the ratio of it to the rest was off.
Overall, this place was great. Good portions, good prices, and a lot to choose from. Will be back often.
Great food, very nice server, reasonable price

Awful awful , if I can call it customer service interaction, ever. The woman named Sara ( on my order ticket) was by far the worst and laziest worker ever met.
I called in a takeout order for pad Thai at 2:35 pm and she said it would be ready in 10 minutes. 7 minutes later as I was pulling up, she called and said it was ready and that they close at 3, which I am aware of because I had to work at 3 pm. I was waiting for her to tell me the total but she was on her cell phone on a personal call and pointed to the screen. I had to look on the computer to see it because she couldn't stop talking on her cellphone to let me know. I gave her a $10 bill which she wouldn't take because there was a small rip ? Amazing how lazy and rude she was.
Overall the food is ok but the decor is very dark and grey so I would never dine in. But they can't get the takeout right.
Excellent service, and the food was so fresh and delicious! Highly recommend the chicken pot stickers and massaman curry. The wontons and crab Rangoon are so crispy on the outside but soft inside (in the best way). Very happy.
Friendly staff. Great food. Can't ask for more.

Best Thai food in Chicago!
Pad Thai was not good, noodles were too tough and chewy, flavor was decent
Green curry was 4/5
May not visit again though as there are better options in Lincoln park
My son had the Pad Thai, he loved it! Good service and great food. Hip little restaurant near the Lincoln Park.
Good neighborhood Thai food. Vast vegetarian options, but more importantly the server steers you away from dishes that have hidden shrimp paste and fish sauce in them. I pretty much stay away from the noodle dishes as I like the curries better. Deft hand in the kitchen makes the deep fried dishes not be oily. If I lived nearby this would be a weekly trip for me.
Nice little hidden gem that’s really not hidden, right on North Ave. Chor Muang dumplings were delicious as were the Pad Thai, Thai fried rice, Pad Kee Mao & egg rolls. Nice, clean, comfortable, simplistic seating. BYOB
Straight forward, delicious food. Polite and efficient staff. We are lucky to have the spot in our neighborhood!
Pad Thai and the Drunken noodle were fantastic; most Thai places seem to hit or miss the classic Thai flavors but this place hit it on the head. Takeout was overall quick and easy.

One of my favorite Thai places in Chicago. The food is so good and has such great service. My husband and I went here on a cold night, and it was such a warm inviting atmosphere. The delicious hot meal made it even better :)
Good deli, shop. Very nice service. The smell inside is not good.
Ordered the chicken pad thai and the chicken tasted reheated. The noodles had a good flavor but were extremely sticky and clumped together more than usual, probably reheated too.
Ordered at 11am and wasn't given the lunch special because I didn't say I wanted the lunch special which runs from 11am to 3pm M-F.
So, I was charged extra (dinner price) for a reheated chicken pad thai.
When I complained, I was told that I have to say that I want the lunch special - during lunch time hours it should be automatic !?
Not going back
I ordered a take out here. One of the best Pad Thai (Tofu) I have tried and their curry was also really good. Will order from here again!
Ordered the cashew pineapple fried rice, Thai wings, and chicken basil. If you want to swell up or even go into cardiac arrest go ahead and order the chicken basil! If it's too much for you make sure you let the server know and they'll try it right in front of you since the kitchen doors don't close all the way and then they'll run it through water then serve it to you :) not only that they won't even apologize for their mistake. The place is pretty cold too so make sure you bundle up.
I used to live within walking distance of this place, and their pad thai became a real problem for me. Best in the city, to the point that I pay extra to get it delivered to the neighborhood I moved to. Nothing else compares to this place!
Their Pad Thai is my absolute favorite in the city. They give a good amount of protein and noodles for a reasonable price compared to other pad thai options. I usually order out so I cannot speak to the restaurants ambiance but their service is usually very fast on takeout!
Favorite Thai spot in the city! I always get the khao soy or pad see ew, both of which are comparable to versions I had in Thailand. Their crab rangoon is amazing too. I've been ordering from them for years and they're always fast and consistent. Great thoughtful packaging too - they add little cutouts to the boxes for fried food to help it stay crispy which is genius.
Solid Chinese sausage fried rice and pad Kee mow. My go to for Thai food
Fantastic Thai food, good portions, decent prices. Service excellent. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the tofu in my peanut noodles. It was not crisp like other reviewers said there's was. Mine was not crisp and too chewy.
Good Hot Food and quick.
This place is great! We tried it on a whim after seeing the big sign; shatteringly crispy crab rangoon, and really good flavors in some of the specials. The Tom yum fried rice had the perfect texture. As of writing, the average rating is 4.2, and I think it definitely deserves higher than that! I’d think it should have a 4.6 at least!
My go to lunch spot when craving Thai food! Love the service and food is very flavorful.
Great food, nice portions, I’m not a Thai guy, but this hit the SPOT
very tasty food and good service! pad see ew and moo ping are so flavorful. also enjoyed the pad kra pow. recommend to all friends!
Love this place!
they're pretty fast and consistent. the massaman curry is excellent. the portions are a decent size. i like the way they cook tofu - it's not spongy. recently though i got the kai yod ya and there was very little actual chicken here - the dish tasted fine but dont get this if you're looking for protein.
Favorite pad see-iew in the city. Perfect mix of spice, savory and sweetness.
Amazing flavors!
My experience at this restaurant was not a positive one. I am a disabled veteran with a service dog, and they refused me service. I explained to the manager no less than 4 times that it was illegal to refuse service to someone with a service dog, and he just blew me off. It's insulting as a veteran to serve my country, and then have an establishment run by foreigners tell me they will not serve me because of my VA issued assistance animal. Very disappointing.
Muy sencillo y con atención ágil,a pesar de tener una persona muy ocupada con varios frentes que atender.
La comida recién hecha y agradable.
Good restaurant 😋
Loved this place!!! Had a pretty big menu for a small place, and some unique items as well. My friend and I ordered 3 entrées and 2 apps to share, wow everything was AMAZING. And I was very happy with their spice levels too (I eat spicy and many Thai places don't make it spicy enough, but this place is legit👌). Definitely going back.
Oh and the waiter is so much fun, very friendly, funny, and makes great recos (I wish I remembered his name).
Go try this place if you haven't yet!!
This place is so great. Staff was extremely friendly and everything came out fast! Purple dumplings were UNREAL. My favorite Thai so far in the city.
I've made a point of trying a lot of things on their menu and not one thing has been disappointing! Their curries are all delicious, as well as their appetizers (highly recommend the pork)! Only thing I would change is that they stopped serving their sushi, which is disappointing. Regardless, this place is awesome.
We’ve been searching for the best Thai in Chicago for 2 years, and Hom Mali is officially it! Everything is authentic and fresh. Our favorites are the chicken basil fried rice, pad Thai, chicken coconut soup, crab rangoons and veggie egg rolls. Absolutely delicious!
Great lunch special!
This is the worst “Thai” food I’ve ever eaten. The pad Thai was barely seasoned and had no spice. The green curry was watery and had an acidic taste. I highly recommend avoiding this place if you’re looking for something worthwhile. The food itself is vastly overpriced for the quality you receive.
Everyone raves about it, so maybe a chance misfortune, but my dish was absolutely flavorless.
Delicious and fresh
Very flavorful
Affordable
Loved this place, best Thai food in Chicago so far. Had the Pad Thai and Tom yum soup. They are flexible with spice levels, I ordered the maximum spicy and it was perfect for my Bengali taste bud. The service is great with very well behaved and friendly waiters.
It's okay. Green curry fried rice is a tad bit too sweet for me.
My favorite Thai place in the city (best for takeout)
Fave Thai food in town
They have an amazing curry made in a coconut! Would highly recommend it's so tasty.
I ordered the Pad Kee Mao and it was the tastiest Thai food pick up I’ve had in a long time. The flavors were fresh and light. Highly recommend and looking forward to trying more dishes.
AMAZING 🤩 I love their sticky rice. Needs mango and extra coconut milk, but the color is so cool! It’s blue/purple!! Their curry is also out of this world 🥰✨
Worst place I have ever had food from. Bearing in mind it was take out, I popped in the restaurant to pick up, only to see a rat run past in the kitchen through the open door! Fair to say if I hadn't already paid, I would have left without my food. But since I had, I carefully checked my pretty simple dish when I got home, and it looked clear of any foreign materials, but the food was inedible due to the heat. I've been to Thailand and took a cooking course there. This food is nothing like what I ate there or was taught to cook. I had ordered a mild dish that should have been basil, lime and coconut flavoured with a creamy light rice. It was not. If I'd eaten this, I would have experienced extreme pain on it leaving my system. Steer clear.
The food was delicious But the portions were very little For the price that I paid They can do better with the portions

Hey, hey, you, you, I don't like your Thai Food
No way, no way, Pad Thai gave me the runs
Hey, hey, you, you, consistency was pre-chewed
Hey, hey, you, you, your Green Curry is too water-y
No way, no way, you know it's not a secret
Hey, hey, you, you, I don't like your Thai Food
Not to whine, I lost my mind, food's suspicious
I think about it all the time, your reviews are so conflictive
You know what you should do, order from somewhere else tonight.
(Alright, alright, alright, alright)
Don't pretend, I think you know this food lacks freshness
And hell yeah, I'm so motherf'in zealous
I can tell you like fresh food too and you know I'm right
(I'm right, I'm right, I'm right, I'm right)
Their food's like so whatever
You could eat so much better
I think you should go somewhere else all together now
And that's what I'm talkin' about
Hey, hey, you, you, I don't like your Thai Food
No way, no way, Pad Thai gave me the runs
Hey, hey, you, you, food so mushy, you don't have to chew
Hey, hey, you, you, your Green Curry is too water-y
No way, no way, you know it's not a secret
Hey, hey, you, you, I don't like your Thai Food
The lunch special is amazing, for $8-9 you get a ton of amazing food. Just had Hom Mali for dinner too and it slapped. Thanks Hom Mali you filled me up again 🤤
Excellent service and food very fresh and authentic Thai taste. Highly recommended.
Had pad thai, nice flavor, good sized serving. Let full and happy.
Delicious food and the service was exceedingly kind. Great vegetarian options.
Very poor service. The staff is too rude I would prefer try another restaurant. I had very bad experience in this restaurant waiting time is ridiculous.
Such a turn off restaurant. The staff is so arrogant visted today and the staff is really bad . The service is really poor. I ordered and it came so late and when i asked them why was it late the receptionist told me if you want you can cancel and go to other restaurant . Terrible experience
Very poor service and arrogant attitude of staff towards customers and staff should fire the employees to gain back its reputation especially that one female worker
I ordered Lard Nar. There were a few Chinese broccoli leaves and a hand full of very chewy pork belly. The noodles were on the side so when they came out of the container it was just a clump. Not what I was expecting. I pretty much spent $17 on a bowl of gravy.
I live around the corner and have been here dozens of times since the day it opened. I suspect it has changed operations a number of times as the restaurant scene has been altered. This place is clean and has great food. They are in the food business not the delivery business. Get off the couch and walk over and pick it up. If not convenient, go to the place on your own block!! This place is excellent—any comments to the contrary are incorrect.
This is our go to Thai place and probably the best Thai we’ve had. We’ve only ever dined in so I can’t speak to the delivery experience but we are typically the only ones dining there, maybe one other table. Honestly that shocks me because the food is so good.
Hey guys, apologies for forgetting to take pictures of what I ordered coz I was too hungry gobbling it up. Though this restaurant is not in downtown Chicago, I would still strongly recommend coming down here for the authentic Thai food. It’s probably one of the best in the States and for those who really need the spicy option, do come here!
1st off I walked in and the greeter looked startled I asked if she had takeout she paused again and finally ask what I wanted to the whole time she looked uncomfortable I had my work clothes on and came from a 12 hour day why the food was really bland for $13.95 I expect way better and the bathroom in the place had a bad odor Nope never again. i should have went somewhere else. If I could give them a zero I would have.
Best Thai I’ve had in Chicago so far! We order pad Thai (ask for it spicy), kra pow, or basil fried rice. Super tasty and the staff are always very kind and attentive.
Really like this place! Glad to have a great new Thai option in the neighborhood. Just wish delivery was faster -- it tastes significantly better when hot (so I pick it up myself.)
Always delicious! Try the Pad Sie Iew with tofu!
This was excellent. I love massaman curry and I have it in many different thai places. This is the best one I've had in quite a while. The shop is spare and clean, and the service is friendly. I'll definitely be going back and highly recommend this place. Curry for dinner with water to drink cost me less than $12 without tip
Authentic Thai food. Padthai was delicious.
Placed an order Monday evening and was quoted for 30 minutes, ended up having to wait over 90 minutes, without clarity as to when the dish would be ready. Many other frustrated people with over an hour wait longer than quoted. Food is generally tasty.
Ordered take out and there were zero vegetables in my pad Thai. I also waited over an hour for the delivery. The sauce in the past Thai was good and so were the tung tongs. But I'lll take my Thai business elsewhere.
Great food!
We order takeout from here once a week. It's such good food! Our favorites are the panang curry (this would be my last meal, it's that good), khao soy, shrimp cakes, tom yum soup, and the cashew entree with shrimp.
Everything we have ever eaten there has been great! Especially loves the curries!
**Delivery Review** - The most consistent delivery in the city. We’ve ordered the same exact items for over a year now (Classic Pad Thai/Veggie Egg Rolls/Tom Yum Soup/Tom Yum Rice) and every single time it has shown up hot like the beaches in Koh Samui and consistently delicious. These cooks were plucked off the streets of Chiang Mai and thrown into the kitchen. Nostalgic taste and smell, best I’ve had since being on Thai soil.
This is the 2nd encounter with a Thai restaurant once in Portland Oregon than here in Chicago great food we got the chicken Thai fried rice in the sirloin fried rice both choices were excellent the commentating sauces were excellent choices very very well synced thank you have a great day
good food
Curries, pad thai all good
Pad Prik Khing (Sweet & Spicy Curry) 2/5
Hands down the best Thai in the city!!! Always delicious and high quality ingredients in every dish
This was great! The Hot Pad Thai was extremely flavorful and packed a true punch of heat. I ordered a spicy salmon roll on the side but received a california roll. It wasn't what i wanted but turned out to be what i needed because the pad thai was so spicy that i needed the balance! It was a really big serving size so I have plenty of leftovers. Next time I would opt for medium heat over hot.
Excellent food and good service. We're lucky to have a place like this in the neighborhood!
My husband and I each ordered an appetizer and an entree from this restaurant as our pre-weekend treats for ourselves, and the food was really good. I was very satisfied with the restaurant until the next morning when I heated up the unopened container of soup for breakfast and found a dead insect in it after I had a spoonful. I had to throw out the rest of the soup, and my husband called them to inform that this had happened. The person picked up the call told him that we’ll need to wait until the manager comes, and he will call us back. A few hours later, my husband got a call from the manager, making an excuse that the insect must be coming from their ingredient provider (even if this is the case, shouldn’t they have cleaned it before cooking?), and that they will give us 20% off for our next order (obviously we were not going to order from them again, so basically they did not do anything for us). I think they should have at least offered us a refund for the soup that I could not eat.
Bien servicio
Great sushi selection!!
This place is excellent! Don't let modest decor of the dining room fool you. The food is absolutely spectacular.
Best Asian food in Old Town.
If you want to try some Asian cuisines in a quaint established with wonderful staff, this it the place to go!
I was turned away due to not leaving a tip previously. I had ordered online and asked to eat inside with a glass of water. When I returned, I was told I was disrespectful due to not tipping and that I could not dine in.
First time, good food. The cucumber salad was the best.
Clean, modern & amazing food & service. Best Thai in the city!!
Best Thai food around. Definitely need to give it a try. Only place I go for Thai food. Pad Thai and panang curry are great. Tom Kha soup is amazing as well. Their service could be better as sometimes they are short-staffed and don't pick up the phone, I think they are still learning how to manage a restaurant. It's definitely worth the rare issue with service.
Wow wow wow...the Thai and Sushi is amazing. The taste and quality is perfect! Great service!
The best Thai food in Chicago! Authentic and tasteful, worth each penny.
Enjoyed the Mexican roll Pad Kee Mao and the wonton Soup. Friendly service. And Very fresh sushi. It’s BYOB which i didn’t know. So good I plan on bringing home a menu and ordering takeout.
Delicious.
Terrible experience with food delivery. Order never arrived and restaurant did not pick up the phone.
Food was great and a cut above your standard Thai joint. Service was fast and friendly. Will definitely be going back often.
Good food, would be 5 stars with better service.
Sometimes food was great , sometimes disappointed
Really good Thai food. Made with good meat and veggies. Better ingredients than anybody else. Excellent Rangoon, Thai iced tea, basil chicken.
It is super loud inside. Would be great if they could hang something on the walls or something to deaden the sound a little. It’s hard to order on the phone.
Everything I’ve had from here has been great. Highly recommend the green curry!
Tasty food, great service, good price and value
Great food and a really nice owner/manager!! I would definitely recommend ordering! Haven’t found a better spot in the area than this one!! We will be back
Great food and service - love the magic colour changing ice tea!
Fantastic food and even better service. Incredible value for the prices they charge, would highly recommend.
Service is good. Loved it when it was Aroma
SEVERELY UNDERCOOKED CHICKEN
This place deserves less than 1 star. My girlfriend and I ordered delivery for the first time from here. Everything was great until she realized that a piece of chicken in her curry was undercooked. And when I say undercooked, I mean not even close to being properly prepared.
I called the restaurant and all they said was that they would give me credit for it. Apparently they cook the chicken halfway and put it in to the curry then boil it to cook it all the way through. Clearly they are not checking to make sure that this method actually works. It is basic cooking knowledge that chicken should always be cooked thoroughly. The fact that this place can’t grasp that is baffling.
Steer clear, I wouldn’t take a chance with this place.
Super fresh Thai and Japanese. The location is very cute too. Go here!
Delicious Pad Thai and Pad See Ew. Crab Rangoons are top notch. We tried two sushi rolls as well, which were also fantastic. So happy a GREAT Thai place is in Old Town close to where the majority of people live.
