Bangkok Cuisine prepares cooking with freshest ingredients to create Thai taste that can be defined as the use of all 5 flavors: spicy, sweet, salty, bitter and sour. Thai food is an ancient art originating thousands of years ago. The basic cooking techniques used in Thai cooking, stir-frying, deep frying, and steaming, are practiced in nearly the same way today as they were centuries ago.
The best part of the restaurant was the staff, they were attentive and friendly - if it's family owned I wish them nothing but success. However, the meal wasn't anything that I would go back for. First time visiting, I decided to go with the Pad Thai - every restaurant has mastered their own version, but this version was very confusing. It was so sweet, and there was zero spice. Usually I have to navigate the seasoning and spiciness... but this one had no heat at all. Plus the veggies were spongy and the chicken and steak had a grayish hue with no seasoning and strangely peanut sauce is an extra that you have to purchase separately. The spring rolls were good though! The location is very dated and could use a good scrubbing and some TLC
Delicious Thai food! Some of the best I've ever had! My noodle dish had really intense flavors of ginger. You could tell that real ginger was used in the cooking and not the powder spice! I'd say that was the singlehanded most obvious difference in this food versus anywhere else. All of the ingredients were fresh and the food was amazing! I also loved the fact that it was easy for me to find which items I could order as a vegan. They have a lot of different options but I really enjoyed the vegan options! I won't even list all the vegan options here because there are too many. Basically have no fear you'll find lots of food here!
Our first visit was 4 months ago, we returned for a second time now that they announced they redid the inside and my it was beautiful in there! Follow their Facebook fan page for cute posts by the owners as well 💗
Fresh and delicious! Probably the best Thai restaurant in San Antonio. It isn't cheap and it is obvious that they make your food fresh to order, but it is certainly worth it.
After having absolutely scrumptious springrolls we tried the lemongrass chicken and eggplant soybean beef. They both delivered. The food leaves you satisfied without feeling stuffed.
Been coming here for years. Nationally rated restaurant with delicious fresh Thai food. We are picky about our Thai and this place always impresses. The lady who owns this restaurant has an interesting back story that is on the pink flyer at your table. She brings in fresh produce from Austin. I'm sad that they got rid of their bubble drinks and the new construction in the back of the dining area is weird but the food is always great.
Tuesday evening, ordered Cucumber Salad, Spicy Fried Rice with Shrimp.
The Cucumber salad was spot on. No peppers but very good. A nice big bowl full.
The spicy fried rice with shrimp was very tasty as well. Plenty of rice. Spicy but not hot. I thought it would have been really spicy with 2 peppers marking it on the menu.
All in all a good place for fresh cooked meal. Prices were a few dollars over the standard thai restaurants in the area.
#55 - Tom Yum Noodle. Best soup ever! I love Thai and have eaten it all the way from the west coast to the east coast and their Tom Yum Noodle is something special. Great service, never busy. Sweet ladies running the place and you'll never have a problem with parking. I'm in Austin and will definitely be driving back for more. Give them a try!
The most AMAZING pad Thai in the surrounding area. I’ve been coming here for the past 5 years and there’s nothing bad on the menu
It's sad because I only went back a second time because it was worth it the 1st time. The food is absolutely delicious! BUT overpriced. When I ordered from Uber Eats, I got a full white container of the main dish. And a black container about half the size of the typical white containers, full of rice on the side. I ordered a pickup order yesterday of the exact same thing, and everything was half the size. The primary order was in the little black container, half the size of the normal white one, and the rice was in a tiny condiment bowl! But it definitely wasn't half price! For one main dish and an appetizer it was $30! And I tipped $5 for a pickup order. Because I thought I was getting the same thing! It's delicious, but I got robbed the second time. 😫
The food is good but the portion is so small with the price
I've been wanting to try this place because I've heard good things, but I was very disappointed. When I first walked in I was surprised that it was empty since it was 1 pm. I had asked for a high chair when I first was seated and the waiter never brought it, I ended up going to get it myself, which was ok.
Then two different people came in to eat after me and the waiter took their orders first before coming to take my order. That was all okay, just wished he would have cone to take my order since I had come in a few minutes before them.
Then the pad thai came and the noodles were a little burnt. I was hungry so ate part of it, but I've never had pad thai that tasted a little burnt. When I went to pay, my lunch special with thai tea and side rice came to like $30 I was like wow, that's pretty high for a lunch.... the lady ringing me up told me the thai tea was $7.50! I was so surprised to the price of the tea, I am used to paying the most $4.99 for a Tai tea. I told her that was crazy, and that it probably explained why it was so empty 🤷♀️.
One thing that did bother me was that the waiter had gloves on, was serving customers and in between that was eating his lunch in one of the dining room tables and never changed gloves between touching his food and mouth and serving people.
Food is great! Meat portions are a little small for the price but still great none the less!
Best Thai food in Bexar County!
Always so fresh and delicious! A family favorite-we love the food here. The servers are always nice and attentive.
We came at 2:30 on the dot. Closes at 3:00. There clock in restaurant was 15 minutes fast. . We we're ask two times what we wanted within two min of sitting down.
Why have hours and move your clock 15 ahead
I wish I could give it 5 Stars. Unfortunately, the operating time is on the “moms and pops” time zone (opened when they want to)! I Showed up 1 hr b4 the posted closing time and it was closed. Few times on the weekend I would show up for lunch and it was also closed but had the open sign remains on. I would wait in parking lot or in front of the main door like a stray puppy with my belly in my hands. Please get y’all’s operating times in order, because this is getting very ridiculous. This place is the best Thai spot in San Antonio! Posted picture is at 7:45 august 23.
To go only
Good prices for the lunch menu.
Good food, good prices. Quaint and quiet atmosphere so it's a good place to slow down a little and enjoy a good meal.
Best Thai food in the area!
The food was greasy and extremely over priced. I will not be going back.
I've eaten at Bangkok cuisine at least a dozen times, sometimes a few months in between. I visit usually at lunch but occasionally bring someone with me for dinner. When you enter theres a board with chef specials that change each visit. I've never tried anything from it yet.
The menus talk about how the owner prepares the dishes personally, ensuring all the items are fresh. The food always tastes great and you can tell even the lunch specials are made fresh to order.
I've ordered the Pad Thai and the Pad See Ew numerous times at Bangkok Cuisine and both are great. Compared to all the other Thai restaurants I've eaten (over 2 dozen across the US), this one has some of the better food. Everyone I've taken to Bangkok has enjoyed it and many returned again.
While the food is always fresh, the service is somewhat impersonal. I've never had a waiter or waitress converse with me at this restaurant, and I build relationships with the places I visit regularly. If you read my reviews you know that I meet a lot of the owners.
It saddens me that I have had even 1 negative experience at this restaurant, but I decided to share it, so that it doesn't ruin someone elses visit
The spiciness of the dishes at Bangkok Cuisine can vary quite a bit.
When trying a new Thai restaurant I always order mild to medium spiciness. I've been eating thai food for a long time and know that recipes and spiciness varies from place to place.
I had ordered mediums many a time at Bangkok Cuisine, and even a hot once, so I thought I knew what to expect. I ordered a medium spiciness Pad Thai, but what came out was super hot, covered in pepper flakes and seeds. It only took me about 3 bites to know there was no way I could finish my food.
I informed the waiter that my food was overly spicy, and was told that orders weren't replaced when they are too hot, it was the customers responsibility to order the correct spiciness. The waiter had attitude and just brought me another glass of water while I sat debating if I should just leave without eating or even take the meal to go. Yes.. it really was that spicy.. I was made to feel like it was my fault. The waitress showed no interest in fixing it because it wasn't their fault in her opinion.
After some more attitude from the waitress, she went to the kitchen to ask the chef if she would replace my meal. The 2nd plate that came out had no flavor and no spice to it at all.. I guess that was their way of ensuring I wouldn't say it was too hot again, and drive the point home at the same time.
Because I had been eating there for several years, I wasn't going to let this one bad experience stop me from returning, but I do order more cautiously now..
I would recommend this restaurant because the food is great, I just warn those who go with me to order on the low end of the spiciness scale, as I want to avoid another confrontation or inedible meal.
Sleeper, but delicious food! Great customer service.
Bangkok cuisine is one of my favorite places to eat and has been for over 15 yrs. Every dish is always fresh and the flavors are very nuanced. I've tried multiple Thai restaurants through the years. None of which can make my taste buds dance and my stomach sing like Bangkok can.
Love this place they are very nice and food is delicious 😋
Amazing green curry and awesome service! A must try! Love that cream puffs are small delicate and many of them <3 Support a local business!!
Food is great but way to over priced for the portions you get.
I had the Pad Thai with chicken and an order of spring rolls on the lunch menu. Everything tasted very fresh and freshly cooked. The order was sizeable enough I had to take about half home. 10/10 would go again.
Great food and great service!
Went for lunch with some friends from work. My first time here. I was surprised that we didn't have a choice for the soup and even more surprised that it was clam chowder. I don't like clam chowder, so not a good start. I ordered the Lemon Grass with Chicken. More Lemon Grass than chicken and they not once returned to refill our drinks. As if that wasn't bad enough, they took it upon themselves to add a 20% tip. That was quite generous of me. I feel that if they have a rule about adding a tip to parties of 5 or more, we were a party of 5, they may feel that it doesn't matter if they come back to check on us as they will be getting a tip anyway. I will not return to any restaurant that has mediocre food and service only to have a tip confiscated from me whether I am satisfied with the service or not.
Cheese rolls, that's it.
This used to my go to place for Thai food.. I haven't been for over a year now because when I called nobody would answer. I recently noticed that they are still open and tried multiple times to call and place an order but still.. nobody answers..
Such a shame because the food was good
Chicken pad Thai was amazing, just add a side of peanut sauce n sets it over the top.
Delicious food, lots of vegan options. Good service, definitely will be back!
I was excited to try Bangkok but when we went inside to order to go we were met with a rude man that did not give us any menus to look at or anything he left us standing In The front of the restaurant while he proceeded to bus 4 tables before helping someone who walked in after we did with their pick up order I’m assuming since we still needed to order, he said it would be $20 for shrimp fried rice to go, I said hold on not sure if we do want to get that then, he then threw the card on the counter and I was so upset by this experience I just left not going to give my hard earned money to a business that allows it’s employees to behave like this to customers. Will never be going here again
Bangkok Cuisine is by far the best Thai restaurant in San Antonio! It is a must try!! You will not be disappointed!!
This place is soooooo good! I got the red curry with beef and the beef fried rice . I could not stop eating even though I was full. Must try! Absolutely delicious.
This restaurant is absolutely delicious, I love everything about it! I’ve been coming here for years and the staff is always super friendly and nice it really is a great experience. You can’t go wrong with any dish but they for sure have the best Thai fried rice!
Delicious pad thai!
Good thai Food.
Best Thai food around. Great lunch menu for dine in.
Been living overseas for a while, now that I'm back ive had this restaurant on my bucket list. From what I remembered the pad thai was great! However I just called to place an order for 2 chicken pad thai meals...THATS IT!...30 dollars!! Thats excessive! So I'm going to check this off my box, one and done, and I'm not coming back unless someone else is paying 🙃
Super good curry.
Always good. The red curry and tom yum noodle soup are to die for.
Food here is great. However you need to go and order. Tried many times to order on line and the web isn't updated with the menu. So trying to order over the phone is very difficult. The people are busy so there is not alot of patience on either end when the names and numbers don't match. The food is great though when you eat at the restaurant.
Was a great place for a long time. Used to be our go to for Thai. I doubt I’ll go back again. Food has been to inconsistent. We got pretty bad pad Thai about 6 months ago. Then we went back and the food was just like normal and have been back two more times and food just was not where it needed to be. Hopefully I’m wrong and they can get back on track.
Mediocre.
Food is worth going to try. They only served dinner portions and prices but I'm overall pleased.
Really good food. Staff is nice. Decent price for the food. Good variety of dishes. Wish they would put a bit more beef in the pad see ew. Definitely going back though.
Being closed,,, for a very long time,,, drove by in May for my son's birthday,,, he loves this place,,, the woman answered the door,,, said they will open on june 1st,,,, no such thing,,, still waiting,,, no one answers phone or door,,,😞
Limited menu with no description or prices. Food was fine, but not the surprise bill.
Do they ever answer the phone? I've never known an establishment to just not answer. Called at least 5 times back to back and nothing. Not to mention they were closed for about a month.
We went there intending to have dinner tonight. The entrance was lined with dead and near dead plants, the floor looked like the carpet had been pulled up and then not replaced, and there was not a hostess or server in sight. When the waitress finally came, she directed us to a table. The chairs were broken and the menu very limited. She asked what we wanted to drink and then said they were out of tea and all soft drinks. We left.
Good!
Ewww!! Found a huge dead roach underneath a table. This place has changed.. they opened today and the $45 tab wasn't worth it at all. Thai fried rice was oily, didn't taste the same or was even spicy. I wasn't offered a discount from the dead, gigantic roach I found and was told to leave right at 3pm due to their closure. I hope during those 2 hours they close they clean their friggin dinning area!!!!!!!!!! 🤦♀️🤢🤮
Great food and and dining in is open!!!
I love the food. The service sucks ! I've been coming here for about 4 years and they cant seem to get someone who can handle the phone and customers. I called a few different times on different days last week so I can pick something up for lunch and no answer ! It's sad!
Huge portions!
Excellent food! Amazing pad thai! Outstanding service!
Used to be great. They recently changed how they make their Thai fried rice and it's pretty horrible now. Wish they would of stuck with original recipe.
The food was amazing the customer service was fantastic
Lemongrass w/chicken, the best!!
EXCELLENT food and GREAT service!!
They never receive phone when we try to have to go order. Today they received my phone and put on hold without speaking. This happened to me like multiple times. Such a worst service.
The most expensive lunch ever. $30. They said they don't offer lunch specials anymore so I ordered a dinner portion of beef pad Tai. It was not even good. Hardly any meat. No sauces, no napkins, only a spork to try and eat the noodles with. And my Tai Tea was full of ice smh. The only thing I enjoyed was the mango sticky rice. Money wasted.
As always, the food was very good. We don't get there often, but the food never disappoints...
It was to be back at this restaurant again after 4 years, it's brings back great memories and of course, food is amazing!
I love the fried pork spare ribs with Fried rice (extra charge but worthed). Highly recommended.
They switched the pad Thai recipe 😪
They never answer call to take order.
Dont order on uber eats. They'll accept and randomly cancel the order 15 minutes later without explanation.
My order was curbside so I can only speak on the food. The beef pad Thai from Golden Wok on wurzbach/ i-10 remains the standard. Bangkok's version is "too sweet " as others have stated. And that's due to the lack of spices or other flavors within the dish. The noodles to beef /or protein ratio is not balanced. More veggies would be nice. I appreciate the complimentary soup, but I rather have more protein and a bigger portion, which is smaller than "my standard". So at $14+ is expensive since Golden wok is at @ 10.50. And on that alone I will not return to Bangkok cuisine
The best Thai food in town 🙌🏾
This place is expensive for sure. The roasted goat red curry was great before, but this time they added tomatoes and pineapple, very little goat, and it was extremely watery. I am disappointed! I hate when the recipe changes. This is a deal breaker for me.
Good food and service.
Best red curry I’ve EVER had anywhere. Love love love it. Wish I could give it 10 stars!
Food is always great which is a good reason to order from here... unfortunately my latest visit wasn't as pleasant as the food. I ordered my food 30 mins in advance (for work lunch) and was quoted a 30-40 min wait for my order. Cool. With the drive there it would land me right after quoted time. I waited 20 extra mins. I wasn't given much of an explanation other than it wasn't ready, but judging from the frantic pace of the person taking the orders and the obviously annoyed and tired patrons next to me in their respected vehicles, I could tell that things were running inefficiently and/or with poor communication. I have been looking forward to my lunch, but it seems I'll have to settle for scraps on my way back to work and enjoy my constellation prize of a half filled potato soup when I blast it with radiation from my microwave.
Good portions and their costumer service is great.
The food was ok, nothing too great but what really got me was the price of the food. $16 for a small "dinner" portion of pad thai and a 20oz bottled Sprite, $16! Plus he said he threw in the soup for free. Even with the soup, was not worth that price. Way better Thai options around the area for about half the price. Would not recommend.
The food is good service ok.price is ridiculous 12.99 its too much for pad Thai. It needs to go back to lunch specials. Try to give the soup of the day at least with 12.99 pad thai.
Waited an hour for a phone in order. They didn't offer an explanation either. Quick to take my money. I will not be going back and will steer family and friends away from that place. Never again.
Wonderful across the board....
Food taste better than other same kind stores but final bill jumped up about 30% more then what it shows on the menu. There is a hidden cost for dinner goers. Double check the price of your order before you pay them. If you are not rich like me, you might get upset. Better prepare for your unexpected higher bill
This was one of our favorite places, the Pad Thai was the best. However, on May 28 2020 I ordered the Pad Thai and it was the worst ever. It tasted like they added a whole lot of lime, it was soupy, and was not sweet at all. It also had a different flavor to it. 'm not sure if they changed cooks because of the COVID-19 situation. Unless they make their Phad Thai like used to I will not go back.
I just ordered from this place. I wasn’t told their only serving dinner so my meal was $39. I got he pad Thai which was doused in sweetness and my red curry shrimp was too hot I couldn’t even eat it. Appetizer apparently was $12. Over the phone when ordered they should’ve told us cause I would’ve went to a better place for cheaper and I love Thai food.
I've been here several times before and really enjoy the food. But sometimes the cook isnt paying attention and you get something that is insanely spicy. I like spicy, that's why I usually enjoy this place, but this is ridiculous.
Not clean food nasty.
We had the Red Curry Shrimp and a Spicy Combination Fried Rice. All I have to say about it is that when I got the Fried Rice I thought, “this is too damn good and there is no way I’ll find another dish better then this one.” I was wrong!!! The Red Curry Shrimp was top notch. You don’t go to this place for the environment you go for the FOOD! BTW when I crave fried rice I use this place as the gold standard for San Antonio. The Bar is set high people, time to up your game.
Great food And friendly service
I had the Phad woon sen and it was very delicious. The restaurant was very clean and the hospitality was awesome. I had also ordered the cream cheese rolls and cant remember the name of them, but I like to eat them. If I could give them higher than a 5 star I would.
Plus the veggies were spongy and the chicken and steak had a grayish hue with no seasoning and strangely peanut sauce is an extra that you have to purchase separately. The spring rolls were good though! The location is very dated and could use a good scrubbing and some TLC
Bangkok Cuisine makes very good Pho! Huge bowl of broth with a huge helping of noodles with green onions, cilantro and bean sprouts! I love the chicken. Their Fried Rice is also amazing! All of their food is made fresh to order. Stop in and try for yourself!
The food was really good and they offer lunch specials on the weekends so that is a plus. The portions are also very large. This may be a hidden gem.
Literally the BEST Pad Woon Sen - this is literally the only reason I will miss moving out of Live Oak
My first time. Good service but the rice tasted pretty sweet.
Staff could be friendlier but food was good and fast for lunch.
Great service and soup awesome and pad Thai so delicious 😋
I'm a regular here. I eat here weekly. The staff is always so welcoming. This is the best thai food I've had. Try it, you won't regret it!!
Meh!
Meh!
Perfect example of ethnic cuisine trying too hard to cater to the local taste. Really, when have I seen Serrano peppers in Thai? never. It pushed the spice level a tad bit high and so was the price.
The selections themselves were nothing extra-ordinary. It wasnt as if the house-chef (at a strip mall lol) had taken time to make a special fusion menu of Thai and local, it was simply Thai + Serrano.
As someone who loves Thai, I was mildly insulted but I was also amused by the menu, then I tasted the food and the same conflicting feelings ensued.
When I had to visit the WC after all the water consumption, I was less amused! it was hidden behind beer barrels and food crates (is this safe? allowed? i'm sure its a fire hazard back there) then I got the check and the amusement totally abandoned me :(
yup, Meh! wouldn't go back.
Fantastic Thai food but cmon $5 for two spring rolls? $7 for a small soup? Definitely over priced but everything was yummy.
EDIT: gave 5 stars for good food despite unjustified high prices but dropped to 3 for horrible service. Took awhile to get greeted, no spoon given with the soup, no server seem to ask for spoon so I had to get my own, didn’t get my drink for awhile, entree took so long I had to pack it to go without eating after waiting for 30 minutes. It’s Friday lunch, you expect to be busy. Maybe have more than 1 server on floor, management?!
Good food, bit of a wait for the freshness and moderately priced. At least $10 - $15 for lunch before drinks, tip, etc
Food was so so. Entry and restaurant dirty and lots dead plants. Not a place I would want to sit down and eat at. Made me wonder what the back looked like if the front looked so bad.
Good Thai food.
I've been coming here for 15 years. it's absolutely delicious. chef Nuch knows how to mingle flavors! it's a party in your mouth. u can't go wrong with the pad thai, pad mee, Thom ka ksi soup(sp?) or any curry!!
We loved the food it was our first time.
This is my favorite Thai place in or around San Antonio. They have consistently good tasting food, the owners are great and it has a unique feel. I’ve been coming here for over a decade and will continue. Thank you Bangkok Cuisine!
Fried rice,spicey, beef Excellent
Vegetarian friendly! The red curry with tofu is amazing.
Best Thai Tea in Universal City
Incredible
Quite good. I dont eat much Thai and typically stick to beef/chicken but I was pleasantly surprised. Very friendly, very good.
TLDR: Great food, nice atmosphere, good service, decent prices (lunch), clean restaurant. Highly recommend!
I had the Pan Thai lunch special with squid and shrimp. The peanut sauce was yummy - more sweet than other pan Thai dishes I've had at other Thai restaurants. It came with peanuts off to the side that you can choose to mix in to your taste. The lunch meal also came with a vehicle soup, that was basically chicken broth with cabbage and tomatoes in it. All delicious.
Atmosphere is Thai - lots of Thai leadership (I guess they are a monarchy?) pictures, etc. Neat to look at.
Service was decently quick; no complaints.
The lunch meals are either $9, $11, or $12, depending upon the meat choice (chicken/etc. vs. Shrimp or Squid vs. shrimp and squid). The seafood in my meal was delicious!
The restaurant and restroom both seemed pretty clean to me! So I felt pretty confident in the kitchen cleanliness.
Very tasty and authentic Thai food. I had the shrimp pad thai and really enjoyed it. Nice atmosphere and friendly service.
Still my favorite restaurant! I live in Alaska and can't to eat here when I visit
Really good food and reasonable prices.
This place has really gone down hill. And the staff is very rude. Sad
This review is for the service. I haven't even tried the food. I called 3 times to place a to go order, each time they answered they immediately hung up the phone.
The Food Was Just Plain Good. Enjoyed. Thank You. St. Louis, Missouri
Pricey but great food. Would give 5 stars but once I tried the salad I figured it would at least have to have some meat for 9dllrs
The food is great. The atmosphere is very relaxing.
My old favorite Thai place just got bumped to my second favorite Thai place and is right down the street from where I work. This place is far for me and probably lots of San Antonio people but SO worth it. Prices may seem a little high but you get lots of food and it’s all made fresh right before you order it or that day if it’s the soup. Some people say the service is a little slow and that the plates don’t all come out at the same time, I have not found that to be true on any of my visits but I’ve never gone at a high peak time or ordered to go and again, the food is made to order, when you order it. If you’re with company - any wait time is a good time to catch up. Be prepared to share food or go home with some, Ive never seen anyone finish a whole plate by themselves.
Not as good as it used to be
food was tasty
Aweful service! This lady was talking to the cashier..she saw me waiting to order she just kept talking to the lady..they were joking and talking about their friends..I just left..
The food was great as usual, but I felt slightly rushed when we were done. I guess it was because it was lunch because I never felt that way before. Still a great place PRICEY but worth it.
Food was bland. Spring rolls were amazing.
Very tasty, generous portions.
Pricey but well worth it. Favorite place for Pad Thai going on years now
Excellent food, every dish there is well composed and tastes delicious. One of my go to places for curry.
Food is great when you can order it. The phone is always off the hook at least 2 hours before they close. Even when you go inside they’ll allow the phone to constantly ring.
Good atmosphere and delicious food.
It looks a bit dated, but the food is fantastic and reasonably priced. Extensive menu and everything sounds good, will definitely go back to try other things. The Pad Thai was a little bit sweeter than expected, but delicious, definitely b recommended.
Amazing food! I love adding spice to the food and scaling up the heat it definitely adds a new flavor! Definitely a must try if you are around it.
a pleasant laid back place. the food comes a bit slow but the taste and fragrance makes it worth the wait
Great food at a fair price!
First time to try Thai food was from here and loved it. I'm hooked. Hot and fresh food.
