The ambience in here is great, very warm and cozy. Menu items are very creative and the flavors were delicious. The drinks were a little too sweet for my liking. While all our dishes were great I would highly recommend the duck curry (has a little kick to it) and shrimp salad.
Charoen Krung By Sathorn is a standout Thai restaurant that gives traditional cuisine a luxurious twist. Each dish creatively combines classic and modern Thai flavors, creating a unique experience. The presentation is detailed and artistic while still keeping true Thai flavors. The food tasted amazing, and the beautiful presentation added to the enjoyment. I’ll definitely be back—it’s a new standard for modern Thai dining.
Surprised and delighted by this special little spot!
We stumbled across this restaurant after the wait was too long at our first choice. I'm so glad we did!
Dinner here was lovely. The environment was incredibly cute and cozy and romantic, but classy. The food was excellent. I had a crab curry that was incredibly well priced for the value, size, and quality. Truly so delicious. We also tried a couple of other dishes that were excellent, and the cocktails were creative and thoughtful. The house old fashioned was really excellent. Across every menu item, flavor was incredible.
I'll definitely be back for dinner with friends or another date night.
Resembles and tastes like Thai food back home in South East Asia, although with slightly fusion presentation and upmarket presentation/prices.
Great for a cold windy day: the spiciness seems to resemble what we have back home albeit probably made slightly milder here, although the punchiness of flavour is certainly preserved.
The dessert of the sticky rice with the Thai custard topped with bonito flakes was really special. Unexpected but amazing combination.
Charoen Krung by Sathon Thai is a gem! From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a warm ambiance and a sense of authenticity. The menu is thoughtfully crafted, featuring dishes that beautifully balance traditional Thai flavors with a modern twist. Each dish we tried was flavorful, and expertly presented. The Pad Thai was perfectly seasoned, and the Tom Yum fried rice had just the right amount of kick! The staff is friendly and attentive, making sure every part of our dining experience was enjoyable. If you’re looking for an authentic Thai experience, Charoen Krung is a must-visit. Highly recommend!
Had a great time here. Service food and atmosphere were all good
Went for late lunch and had the Duck Slider for starters, River Prawn Pad Thai, mixed vegetables and Khao Soi for mains, and the Coconut Ice cream for dessert.
The duck sliders were good, only critique I have is that they shouldn't put sauce underneath the bun. Both mains and dessert were excellent.
I also had the Lychee Bliss which tasted like canned lychee syrup (👎). Luckily I had the bright idea to order soda water and make something worthy out of it.
“The atmosphere of the restaurant is absolutely excellent. The presentation of the dishes is very well done, and the food tastes delicious and is quite unique. The mocktails are a bit on the sweet and sour side, but overall, it’s good. If you have the chance to visit the Lincoln Park area and are looking for a place with a great atmosphere and unique-tasting food, I highly recommend this restaurant.”
Charoen Krung was delicious! From the cocktails, to the thai tapas appetizers, and flavorful main entrees, I would definitely recommend this spot. Duck bao buns, seabass, taro straws were highlights.
We had to wait an over hour for food, we got our mains before our entree which we eventually just had to cancel, for the prices you would expect alot better service, although food is great dishes are also very small for the prices.
If you want an honest review, keep reading. My partner and I arrived for our 7:30 dinner reservation and ordered 2 drinks, 1 appetizer, and 2 entrees.
I understand it was Valentine’s Day and busy, but that doesn't excuse the terrible food and service. We waited 40 minutes for drinks and another 40 for the appetizer, which arrived cold, like it had been sitting in the kitchen forever.
When our main courses finally came after an hour, both were stone cold. The waiter was rude when I complained and took our plates back. After half an hour, my dish was clearly microwaved, and my partner’s was just reheated, drying out the protein and making it inedible.
I can overlook delays due to understaffing, but the quality of the food was beyond disappointing. For over $100, you’d be better off getting takeout from your local Thai place that won’t let you down. The food here is overpriced, flavorless, and served cold. I even heard the table behind us complain about their cold food, only to be told, “this is how it is served.” Save your money and avoid this place, especially for special occasions.
Delicious food, a little different in a great way from more typical Thai fare. Highly recommend the wings, Khao Soi, dumplings, and duck sliders were fantastic. Didn't have any drinks, but the cocktails looked great, would definitely come back here again.
A delightful and delicious experience! This restaurant was formerly spelled with a J and had different owners. Now, under new management, the food is even more delicious and affordable. We enjoyed everything we tried, and were especially impressed by the dumplings that came adorned with gold leaf! I highly recommend!
Staff is extremely kind and welcoming. Presentation is beautiful. But most importantly the quality of flavors is superb. Cocktails and non alcoholic options. Plus yummy desserts (homemade ice creams and warm sticky rice custard). I’ve been back handful of times now solo, with partner, and with family. I always enjoy soup of the day and trying different dishes.
Made a reservation on Open Table. Arrived a little early so had a drink at the bar - the Sawasdee Sathorn, one of their signature drinks, which was light and lemongrassy and delicious. We were seated once our friends arrived and service was fast and attentive. Shared Kai-Yang chicken wings, duck sliders, and fried taro as apps. I got the duck curry as my main and the duck was perfectly tender, the curry just the right amount of spicy, rich, and bright. Not too loud in there, perfect for a date or a small group dinner.
Amazing food and cocktails!

I came across this restaurant while walking around Lincoln Park and thought I’d give it a try. I’m a huge fan of Thai food and was really looking forward to eating here once I saw the “Thai food” sign outside. I went in around 4:00PM and grabbed a few things off of the tapas menu and added a Soup of the Day to my order. The soup was not bad but I wasn’t a fan of much else. The food was extremely sweet and greasy and I found the chicken to be very rubbery. It was kind of gross to eat. I was really hoping for more curry options. The waitress also seemed a little upset that I didn’t order a drink beyond water, which was uncomfortable. The restaurant itself is pretty but I don’t think the food warrants the price. Not sure I’d return.
Had such a great meal here! The pad see ew was delicious. Will definitely be coming back again.
Surprised and delighted by this special little spot!

This is a little hidden gem! The ambiance is perfect for a cozy dinner, our waiter was incredibly attentive in filling out water glasses and clearing plates as we needed, and of course the food was delicious.
I highly recommend the Kai-Yang Sathorn. The chicken was delicious and the spicy sauce it came with was the perfect addition! And the presentation was stunning (forgot to take a picture unfortunately)
Terrible atmosphere

This was my first visit to Charoen Krung by Sathorn! The food was very tasty, although a bit expensive for the portion size. The staff was friendly and very attentive, however it was fairly empty inside which was odd. The place itself is very cute! Overall it was a good experience. We ordered three appetizers, two entrees, and a bottle of wine to split among three people and it ended up being about $200.
High quality food, excellent service, good wine selection. Nice ambiance. It is a fine dining venue with a character. I am very glad to we have this nice place in our neighborhood.
What a delightful restaurant. From the moment you walk in the staff and the atmosphere is so welcoming and lovely.
My friend and I tried almost every dish between us, and every taste was authentic and delicious.
We also enjoyed how comfortable it was to be able to have a conversation even though there was music playing.
I hope they will shorten the name of this wonderful place so it is easier for me to recommend to friends😊
Good Thai food restaurant

Food was great! Lots of vegetarian options too
Great service and excellent food!
Best Thai food I’ve ever had!! Charoen Krung is an authentic Thai restaurant I ate at while visiting Chicago and it is hands down a new favorite! I will make a point to stop in every time I’m passing through the area. Flavor, vibes, and experience all on point!
Charoen Krung stood out to me for its authentic, fine dining-quality Thai cuisine. The food was incredible! I had Kanom Jean Namya Poo which was a delicious crab curry. The pomelo salad was refreshing and paired super well with the curry. The coconut ice cream was also delicious! Each dish had beautiful presentation. I appreciate that the menu offered courses different from your typical Thai restaurant.
The staff went above and beyond; they were attentive, welcoming, and thoughtful. Drinks were also delicious- they had Thai beer :) Cocktails had Thai flavor profile. Can’t recommend this place enough if you’re looking for an unforgettable Thai dining experience!

Excellent atmosphere and food. Whether it’s a date night or just a spot to go out with your friends, Charoen Krung is a great choice. You will not be disappointed.
Finally, a fine dining version of Thai food.! We enjoyed the Thai tapas, excellent service, and pleasant decor. On one dish—the shrimp dumplings —there actually some glittering edible gold! And the prices are reasonable! I hope this place has lots of success!

Such good food and legitimately authentic Thai. After a Thailand vacation this was the closest we’ve had in Chicago! Servers are super nice and food is really tasty. Slightly higher price than takeout but it’s a place you actually want to spend time.
Recommend: this place was great, all the things we got tasted really good. Pad Thai, curry and the puff appetizer. Service I think was on the slower side even though staff were nice, and that was when there were maybe total 3 tables taken. Nevertheless I will be back for sure.
Our server Chloe was amazing and so sweet! 💕🥰
Food was great, drinks were awesome. The happy hour deal is value for the neighborhood. Will definitely be back!
The bar service is fantastic and Tom is a phenomenal host!
Great spot for dinner and love the late night happy hour! The service is great and vibes are incredible.
The panang curry was was sooo tasty. My boyfriend got the Cashew Nut Stirfry and he just devoured it. Highly recommend.
Unfortunately a tasteless pad Thai experience :(
Great local Thai spot for a cozy meal. The curry was great. We will definitely be back!
Beautiful new restaurant, so cozy and green inside. Super fresh and homemade tasting food, just delicious. The crispy tofu peanut salad and curry puffs were so yummy.
This is a definite front for money laundering. It's always empty and the "owner"(more like owners daughter) and her friends are always drinking at the bar for free. Reported to the federal government!
Great food, good service. First place in the city that has delivered on spice levels.
I ordered 3 pad thai, spring rolls, and the plum puffs for lunch. The food came hot and delivery was on time, flavors were really good, but, for as expensive as it was, there was barely any chicken or beef in the respective dishes. The plum puffs were sort of a let down as well. The spring rolls were pretty tasty. The complimentary lychee lemonade was a nice touch. I don't want to give up on this new place and I might try dining in one of these days, but for now, i'd say skip the togo...
Awesome new Thai spot. Best massamun curry I've found in the city.
Stay away unless you are ok with being served fast food quality Thai food! Their cocktails are made of sugary mixes. Service was fine, but again the food was terrible, by far the worst Pad Thai I ever had.
Great meal - spring rolls, curry puffs, panang curry and stirfry ginger chicken
I live close and desperately want this to be a go-to spot. The space looks great and prices are fine because it’s a little more upscale. But the food (pad Thai specifically) was unfortunately the worst I’ve had in the city (out of probably 15+ Thai restaurants). It was strangely saucy and the chicken was rubbery. If the owner is reading this, I love the restaurant and want it to succeed and will come weekly, just change the pad Thai recipe (copy Noodles in the Pot).
This place was amazing and really kid friendly. My toddler and I dropped in for a random daddy daughter date where we sat at the bar. The staff made a custom sherry lemonade for my daughter and even asked about sugar content that we wanted in the drink (if any). The Thai basil fried rice add shrimp and the coconut ice cream created a toddler paradise! We will be back many many times!
Was hoping for a great Thai spot in this part of Lincoln park but it was a big disappointment. Service was slow and sparse, the food was overpriced and mediocre, and drinks were watery and again overpriced. Can’t recommend unfortunately.
We really enjoyed our food and the service was great. We will definitely be back. My wife especially loved the spring rolls.
Food was not great, especially for the price. Service was fine and is a BYOB
A great dining experience. The food and service were outstanding. Definitely give this place a try!
Tasty lunch specials!
The food here is fantastic. Amazing flavor, plenty of food in the dish. The service was great and the ambience was nice. This is the go-to spot for Thai food in Lincoln Park!
We ordered for pick-up and WOW is the good so flavorful! There isn’t a lot of good Thai food in Lincoln Park and we’re so glad this opened in the neighborhood. Excited to eat here again.
Ahh! This used to be Chez Moi, remember that? This is from the Keadkao Express folks that used to be in Urbanspace Food Hall. I Had the Chicken Potato Soup.
PS. Soft opening 'til 11/30 & grand opening on 12/1.
