The Prix-Fixe menu, famously known at Arun’s Thai, has provided a culinary experience to the world for the last 20+ years. From the Cradled Prawn, with fried prawn cake with red curry, kaffir lime leaf & sweet basil all the way to the Amish Chicken coarsely sliced with holy basil, ground garlic & pepper, your taste buds are in for an experience of a lifetime. Chef Arun invites you to find out why this is a James Beard Award-winning, NYT: “1000 Places to See Before You Die” location.
For my money, Arun’s is the finest dining establishment in the city of Chicago. This is my go to for special occasions: graduations, anniversaries, etc, because the meal quality is consistently excellent and the service is impeccable. Also, the decor is amazing and unique (Arun’s brother painted the walls!). The prices here are unbeatable when compared with restaurants in the same tier. Frankly, I almost wish that Arun’s would start charging more because I want this restaurant to be around for a long time. There is no place like Arun’s!
I rated this place a solid 4 stars for vegetarians… given that the food was good, but not incredible. The service and atmosphere were fine and the location is off the beaten path a bit in terms of high end Chicago restaurants. Generally though, everything was good. The first item was the curry soup and that was the best thing I ate all night. The number one gripe is always the price when you consider how much you end up spending… but the food was good enough to go at least once to check out their pre-fixe menu.
We went on a Thursday night. Maybe because we didn’t order the tasting menu, but we were sitting by ourselves, which was surprising as it wasn’t easy to get a reservation.
We ordered some of the classic dishes. My expectations were that it was an upscale Thai restaurant, and based on the meal we got, that was definitely the case.
It was good food, but there’s something about cheaper Thai food that I find even more enjoyable.
The presentation was good but nothing to be truly wowed at (the pad Thai with the folded omelette was good, though).
If I went with the tasting menu I’m sure it would have been a more memorable experience.
Enjoyed the vegetarian Thai fare immensely!! Distinctive taste and balanced flavors. The decor was great but the place was very quiet.
Be prepared to wait though after you order food. Preparation takes time but the food is well worth the wait. If you love Thai cuisine, this place is a must try!
Solid! Not bad at all! 4.5/5 Presentation is great and food is decent! Was an interesting experience that I would recommend trying at least once. I got the 9-course meal and felt really full after! The bill was a few cents over $100 for just the 9-course (no drinks), which is good! I didn't get a chance to post the the last course which was the dessert as my phone died, but it was good too!
Wonderful experience with their tasting menu. Very interesting flavors and dishes that are out of the ordinary. We liked the various appetizers and small bites that then lead to the main courses that are served together. Portion sizes were perfect for us and we were really full at the end. This dinner will take some time, so prepare for at least 2-2.5 hours with dishes spaced out pretty well.
My wife and I dined her and decided to take on the 9-course tasting menu. It did not disappoint! The flavors and presentation of each dish was top notch.
The decor is like walking into a museum filled with art work all over.
The service was also excellent. Our server Joel was very attentive and gave a thorough explanation of each dish as it was served. The cocktails were on point as well!
Looking forward to our next trip to Arun's!
Overall not a great experience especially for the price. The server was very off, the food was either too hot or too cold. No one really liked any of the 4 dishes we had and there was even bones in the duck dish.
It’s in a random location but it’s worth the trek over. Everything I try is so beautiful and so tasty and service is always fantastic as well. The 9 course meal is great but I actually prefer a la carte because I have a particular affinity for the beef salad. My partner and I always split one but next time, I think we should each just order our own. It’s just amazingly tasty. All the dishes are great though and we try new curries each time. Warning though that spicy really means authentic Thai spicy. So if you arent sure you can handle spice, err on too mild.
Amazing interior, service and food. If you want Thai food for a very special occasion, this is your spot!
All the food was amazing and they offer a prefix meal that I'll return to try soon!
A brilliant experience start to finish. Food is absolutely incredible.

The food was amazing! Each dish was so beautiful you almost hated to eat it! The tastes, the textures, the presentations were out of this world! Take your time-enjoy!

Took my Mom here 20 years ago. Still talks about it. Time to go back.
The ambiance, staff, and food remain exceptional. The surprise birthday celebration was highlighted by the chef. A wonderful experience nestled in an unlikely place. This is my third or fourth visit with consistency over decades.
The best Thai I have had in my life. I will dream about it. This place is special. I was there with friends but seems like a great spot for a date as well. Warm, intimate atmosphere. The food is a delight to the senses. Will definitely bring friends and family to try it!
We went in April 2023 before our flight out of Chicago. It is more for the Midwestern palate having visited a multitude of Thai restaurants on the East Coast and having quite a few neighborhood spots when I lived on the West Coast. Thai flavors vary by region based on noodles, , rice and curry flavor, etc. There is also a special thai beverage usually offered but again --- midwestern palate so not offered.
Unique Thai cuisine that is beautifully presented and tastes good!
Had wanted to visit here for several years and finally made the trek.
Opted for the vegan prix-fixe. Server asked if I ate “salmon and crab” - I said yes. Ended up with scallops, salmon 2 ways and grouper for every plate and was looking forward to the tofu and veggie dishes.
Salmon was low quality.
Bummer.
Our server, Joel S. Was awesome. Gave us great service as well as a history of the restaurant. One of the best places in the city to eat Thai food. Highly recommend it.

1 star Michelin. Old fashion (the drink)

Loved it all. A dining experience like no other. Will be back when in the Chicago area.

Incredible Food and White Glove Service! Highly recommended
🔴 – This place sell look not taste and very expensive look. If you like to look at Thai Food this place is good for you. … No No Not Me … I want great taste from food, any food. Good food must have good taste then good looking and not the others way around. Pud Thai is a well-known Thai cuisine every Thai Chef should familiar about, but not Arun that look good – No Taste …!!! … Thai Curry too, the paste right from the can but only a few know how to make is great …. NOT HERE …!!! …. This place are completed – High Price , Low Taste – If you want good look and cost high this place is for you --- ❌ ❌ ❌
…
I tried it for the first time and I liked the food except for some that are spicy. My mouth was on fire so I drank some milk and water.
My wife and I dined her and decided to take on the 9-course tasting menu. It did not disappoint! The flavors and presentation of each dish was top notch.

My wife and I had never had elevated Thai and decided to come here for the 9 course tasting menu for our anniversary. I don’t usually write reviews, but Arun’s warranted it. This unassuming small Thai restaurant pulls out all the stops to make sure you have an incredible dining experience.
While many of the dishes were new to us, we were astounded by their flavor and truly blown away by their presentation and taste. Each course was unique and flavorful and built upon each other perfectly dish by dish. Not to mention the top notch service and gorgeous artwork that set the perfect ambiance.
Don’t let the nearly empty dining room deter you, I would definitely recommend Aruns for a special occasion.
Very good but way too expensive
Mixed feelings about this place. We were the only one there at 6pm on a Saturday night!! Food was decent. Were disappointed that we specifically requested high chair when we booked the place and once arrived, they had none without prior notification. It did require a bit of a haul from downtown.
Delicious food and the service was awesome
We got an elaborate explanation of each dish
Beautiful restaurant, very attentive service, food presentation was exemplary but the taste was lacking. We walked in at 8:00 on a Friday night and there were only 2 other tables occupied. We got nervous and I asked my bride if we should abandon ship and sacrifice the required deposit. We stayed. We had the chive dumplings, mussaman curry and the pad thai. Great Thai food is known for balance of the key flavors: salty, sweet, sour, bitter and spicy. The chive dumplings had a nice crispy outer skin and a tender interior. The sauce was peppery and had a nice lingering heat. I liked them, my bride was underwhelmed. The pad thai was uniquely presented, very beautiful. Upon digging into the paper thin egg skin surrounding it we discovered the temperature was luke warm. The flavor was bland. The brightness of amazing thai food was missing. The mussaman curry was beautiful. Presented in a lovely brown sauce topped with fried sweet onions. The meat and potatoes and carrots were tender. You could cut the meat with a spoon. But the curry was just meh. No brightness, no heat. It was nice. We came because this restaurant is in the book 1000 Places to See Before You Die. We were very excited to eat here. We should have sacrificed the deposit and left to eat elsewhere. Perhaps is was a bad night but we were disappointed.
Aeuna Thai is a must stop restsuranr to anyone living in Chicago or visiting! The food and atmosphere are incredible. I had also left my purse behind and I was costing from Florida. They mailed me back my purse at their expense! Outstanding food and service I will definitely be returning!
Fantastic meal. We are there last night as a celebration for my mom’s 66th birthday and all six of us in the party were delighted with the meal. My mom has a shellfish allergy and it was accommodated perfectly, everyone at the restaurant was knowledgeable, helpful, and kind. The meal was delicious and was well worth the tasting menu price. This place is off the beaten path and I would highly recommend it.
Great food.
I’m obsessed with Thai food. I even married a half Thai lol. This place is really good. I definitely would recommend it to everyone at least once in their lifetime.
Ok, stop what you are doing and get to Arun’s tonight!!! This place is destination dining AND basically an art gallery. We got the tasting menu, which was INCREDIBLE. Super elegant, with unusual and scrumptious flavors — lots of unique chef Arun creations you would have never heard or conceived of. Also, they were able to accommodate a vegan tasting menu on the fly! The service was impeccable too in a really gorgeous dining room. I tell everyone I know who lives in or visits Chicago to make a point of going.
We had booked a reservation on Tock. The restaurant was not busy when we visited on a weekend night; there were several open tables near us.
We chose the prix-fixe menu and they easily accommodated our party's food allergies and preferences. The menu changes quarterly and when we visited consisted of 5 starters plated individually, 3 entrees served family style and one dessert plates individually.
Each item was flavorful and distinct from the others. The substitutions were effective and we didn't miss the original ingredients.
The dessert was surprisingly good as well. There were no other dessert options and while we normally end up with something chocolate when we dine out, the dessert satisfied us all!
Really enjoyed the a la carte menu. Have wanted to try this place for years and it exceeded my high expectations with great food and excellent service.
The food is not just beautifully presented but it tastes just as good. This is just such a great date night restaurant,, nothing can ever go wrong here..I was so impressed by their drinks as well. I loved their crab wonton. Will definitely recommend to everyone looking to try a new Thai place in Chicago.
Ok the food was good but when we think back to the price we think of whether it was worth it and always reach to the conclusion that to us it was not so.
Beautiful Ambience and good food. This place is art!
A completely different experience of Thai food. Everyone should try this at least once. We had the valentines menu but will definitely come back to try to à la carte soon. The cocktails aren’t something I would suggest though. We came in for the food and we weren’t disappointed.
Attentive and elegant service team. Extremely delightful and knowledgeable chef. Exquisite, artistic and delicious dishes with fresh ingredients prepared from scratch. Distinctive and well-balanced flovers and teste. Excellent. Very very pleasant experience. Will visit it again certainly. Highly recommended. 👍👍😋
Amazing food! Great Service. Lived up to its reputation. Highly recommended.
Highly recommend. All dishes were presented well and was super delicious. They were able to substitute dishes on the prix fixe menu for us
Great experience, good food, beautiful plate. Now, I can scratch one of 1000 thing to do before you die.
This was one of the best dining experiences of our lives! Not only was the food utterly delicious, and so different from the usual mom and pop Thai restaurants in the US, but the service was impeccable. Thank you, Ming! This is a world class restaurant and really should have a Michelin star. We had the pre fixe dinner last week (9 courses; all absolutely tasty and impressive) but will return for their regular menu. Although the pre fixe is more expensive (and worth every penny), the regular menu has entrees in the $20 range. Entirely affordable. We went on a Thursday night when it was below freezing and had the restaurant almost completely to ourselves. We had our own little dining room actually so it was perfect for pandemic dining. We will remember the food and the service for years to come!
Very good and very nice service
I am so glad Arun’s Thai is open and I finally got to go!!! Omg! This place is a dream. It transports you to Thailand. Chef Arun is delightful. Everything is perfection. Nine course meal that can be customized for your dietary preference and leaves you more than full. That garlic lobster!! Wow! Perfect spot for an occasion too! And the beauty inside with all the murals is breathtaking. Go now or go soon!!
We got the tasting menu but next time I am definitely going with a la carte. I could not get enough of the green curry XD
Now that Arun's has take-out, it was a nice opportunity to have fantastic Thai food at home. I've been lucky enough to try out Arun's cooking in different food events and it's one of the few places that really brings back to the unique and fresh flavors that is fresh, spicy, fragrant and so aromatic, top spot for Thai in Chicago.
Always looking to get something new, I got the Kua Kling; Pork Belly Southern Style Dried Curry. The flavors are delicious and if you don't mind fat, it goes over well with rice. It was almost a bit too much pork fat, it's soaking in oil, I could probably use it to cook a pot of greens (which I will prob do). As a dish, it's super oily, just be warned, but the taste is amazing.
I've been to Arun's many times before. I decided to celebrate my boyfriend's bday here and he loved every bit of it. I was so excited to share this amazing experience with him. The food is always on point, presentation is amazing, and every bite you take, you want more. I was looking forward to having the shrimp that's wrapped in a crispy shell, but we heard it's a special that's on the menu when Arun's sister is in town. The only thing that was disappointing were a few of the drinks we ordered. The old fashioned was spectacular. I ordered another cocktail that came in a tall glass with gin I believe and I did not care for it. Then decided to try another cocktail and that some sort of bourbon I think and that was not good. Very bitter and not so tasty. Wish they had a better selection of cocktails. Other than the drinks, everything else was great! Our server was also excellent! He was attentive, very knowledgeable about the food, and very sweet.
Cannot beat the waiter we had last night. Fantastic service!!!
Really a good experience, but for some reason I don’t find myself rushing back. I will return eventually though. Would give 4.5 stars if possible ,but round up I guess.
Really good food. Great place to come when you are looking to celebrate a birthday or occasion
Arun's Thai Restaurant offers a great experience for all. The space is very inviting and the hand painted murals are not to miss. Step in and see vibrant Thai folklore that makes the restaurant cozy. The menu is both traditional and gourmet. Tom yum, Pots tickets and Phad Thai are standards that can't be missed. The Pork Belly Southern Style Dried Curry steals the show. Every bite sends flavors all around your palate.
Beautiful interiors, classy service. Small menu, good presentation. Somehow the food didn’t satisfy the taste buds. Nothing stood out for good flavor or astonishing taste. Some cocktails can be spicy.
Wonderful food. Glad to be back and eager to come back again.
Sad to say, I was not a fan. I've had instant noodle pad Thai that was better. That and the cleanliness is why I gave it the rating I did.
👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
It's been a few years since we visited Arun's. We ate there last Sunday and the the food is still exceptional, I mean on a different level of good.
Unfortunately the service was not good. Basic care such as clearing empty glasses and filling water glasses was repeatedly not done. There may have been a bit of "attitude" as well.
Go there for the food!
One of the best Thai restaurants that we have dined at in the Chicago area. The ambiance and food was excellent. Plus the service was exceptional as well. Each entree or actually anything that you order from their menu is truly a masterpiece work of art. Looks almost too good to eat, lol! Another thing worth mentioning is that it is definitely way more expensive than most of our other Thai favorite joints. It was just my wife and I and our bill was over $100+! (2 apptz, 2 Entrées, 2 Drinks) But obviously, it was definitely worth every dollar! 😁
Chef Arun created a fresh, flavoring and inventive menu for our private party at home. Simon and Chef Chester were wonderful at home and truly created a very special celebration for our family. We enjoyed it and can't wait for our next Arun's experience! Thank you!
Amazing meal in a beautiful space. Make sure you ask about the mural in the back too.
Great service and great food. A 9 course meal
Awesome food better service
Liked it
This meal was by far the most enjoyable I have had in the last 12 months - additionally this was the most authentic Thai food I have had outside of Thailand. We opted for the 12 course menu and accompanied with multiple wines and cocktails. As for the cocktails I recommend the black Thai affair! They offer 8,10 and 12 courses - so there are multiple options. Our favorite item in this tasting menu of twelve was the lobster tail and the seabass. Another popular item was the shrimp cake with a semi pickled salad.
Finally the service was exceptional, George is an excellent server- knowledgeable about wine, cocktails and all the food. We had a pescatarian, a celiac and carnivores in our party and all were expertly catered to!
Fully recommend!
Horrendous - food that looked good and tasted awful. And the fact that dinner for two people cost >$400 was insulting. If you want Thai food, go to Andy’s Thai. If you want an upscale dining experience, go to Acadia or Next or almost anything else in the West Loop. Bad food, bad service, and crazy price.
Absolutely amazing. My wife and I went for our anniversary. George served us with grace and wit, and truly made the night special for us, an event to remember.
Food,presentation, surroundings top notch
I sampled a few of their items at the Taste of Chicago and LOVED everything. Will definitely be visiting the restaurant soon!
Exquisite dishes matched with exceptional, attentive service. Nothing like it in the city although a bit off the track. 5 stars!
Very nice and tasty meals! People are really nice here too!
Great dining experience
We drive an hour to come to Arun's, that's how good it is! The food is expertly prepared and served and the food is just exquisite. It's a fixed 10 or 12 course meal so all you need to do is order your drinks, let them know of any dietary restrictions or dislikes and let the food come to you. Whenever we have a significant milestone to celebrate Arun's is where we go.
It was good- delicious really- but the price was waaay too high for dinner for two plus two beers and a cocktail. Just over $300...
It’s not that I think $300 is a totally unreasonable price for a really delicious dinner for two plus a couple of drinks, but if you’re gonna spend that much go somewhere else.
The ambiance isn’t right and, though they tried hard, the staff didn’t improve things. I think windows would improve it dramatically even if there’s not much to look at outside.
I also thought the presentation of food looked dated and we were never offered chopsticks though almost every dish would have been more enjoyable to eat with chopsticks. I suppose I could have asked.
My favorite part was the tapioca dessert.
Thai food and the atmosphere at this place is super good. it was so delicious. there was quick, helpful, and friendly service. this place has a cool design.
Beautiful, delicious, decadent, exquisite Thai cuisine.
French Thai at its best! A must visit in Chicago!
Definitely a Thai place to visit! Love the food here.
A fantastic meal with amazing taste and a feast for the senses. The wait staff was very attentive and willing to help with allergies and other accommodations to make your meal the best experience
I am a foodie and will spend good money on a wonderful experience. Had the 12 course meal and a few cocktails. The drinks were ok but have had better at other places. The food was nothing extraordinary. It was well played and presented but the flavors were ordinary. At 150 a person, paying over 400 with a tip for this experience was way too much. I suggest this restaurant change it's format and get back to delicious Thai food and not try to be what it's not.
Loved all the courses. Flavours are so unique and interesting
Average food, above average presentation and over the top pricing...better off going to an authentic Thai restaurant where Thai people usually frequent
Nice food, but not worth the price. The atmosphere was non existent, we expected way more due to the prices and the “jacket preferred” note in the reminder email. If we were to dress according to the inventory and the atmosphere, we could have worn jeans.
Some of the dishes were very nice and everything was well presented, but we do not feel it was worth the very heavy price.
Two guests without alcohol racked up a $285 tab, before gratuity! The 10 course meal consisted of small portions of common thai food dishes that, while pretty, were not worth the hefty price tag. The only "magic" was watching my money disappear. Should have known something was up walking into a dead restaurant on a Friday night.
Agree with all the comments about artistic dishes. Excellent plating... chef Arun is very creative with making the food look beautiful. Unfortunately, we went in with the expectation this was upscale Thai food. High end restaurants can sometimes over-index on the artistry and the service (while the food itself is average), but Arun’s takes that aspect to a new dimension! If you want great, savory Thai food, would steer well clear of Arun’s. There are much, much better options in Chicago.
Some of the most amazing food I've ever had! Servers were amazing friendly and courteous. Explained what each dish wasand how to eat them to bring out the flavors. Shout out to Chef Arun, servers George and Paul for an awesome job and thank you for the birthday cupcake ( so light and fluffy)!
Went there for a dinner date, they said they had some great vegetarian options as we don't eat meat but turns out it was the worst Thai food we'd ever eaten. Apart from that, the server got us a dish which we weren't supposed to, as it had meat in it. Didn't even apologize or offer any compensation for the mistake. Pretty disappointing experience after paying so much.
Excelente atención . Lugar íntimo donde pasar una excelente velada... la cocina tailandesa.
I loved it! We were a group of five with various dining experiences all around the world. We all agreed we will go again.
Best meal of many, many, many I've had.
LOVE the ambiance
Excellent 12-course meal and outstanding wine pairing. Attentive service and helpful, knowledgeable staff.
The Massuman (not always easy to spell) curry was simple but flavorful and the pad thai was exactly what we needed it to be 🔥
Very beautiful good presentations, expensive but well worth it. Go on an empty stomach and enjoy the numerous courses.
My friend made best choice choosing this place
I only been there three times. Pad Thai is little sweet but still good , Curry is great and service is good
A wonderful experience hands down a word of caution though; this is a five star culinary experience and comes at a five star culinary price! This is not a venue for casual hangouts or first dates.
The ambiance
Very nice with on brand decorations that added to the atmosphere
The service
Excellent, the staff served the food with proper decorum and each dish had a chance to shine as the wait staff was very knowledgeable about what was served. Their friendly personalties helped lend itself to the warm atmosphere of the restaurant
The food
Fantastic! Virtually all textures and flavors were sampled, with no noticeable clashing taste. In addition, the presentation was artfully done and it's very obvious that a lot of time and thought went into the plating; each component of the dish designes to bring out the full flavors of the ingredients used.
Overall a wonderful experience, come here as a special treat such as an anniversary or to really make someone special in your life feel like royalty.
Excellent excellent excellent
I have never had such amazing Thai food before. Classy cozy place. We enjoyed our 12 course menu by the chef and I am glad we did because I would have never ordered those dishes of the menu. Delicious!!!
Exquisite dining!
Great Thai food. Very classy. Almost didn't want to ruin the presentation, but we were hungry. If what I heard was true, then I'm glad we got to eat here before they closed the doors...
The pad Thai with shrimp is too legit to quit! When we are feeling take out, this is our go-to spot. The actual restaurant is really cute inside as well - we definitely plan on dining in soon!
This was the best dining experience of my life.
Fantastic fresh Thai dishes that are all well worth the prices. Every selection is a work of art on a plate. If you want to have a romantic dinner date with your partner and have a very special meal that's truly amazing, then this is your restaurant. My new favorite
This was an UNBELIEVABLE Culinary Experience. Food, Service & Environment was EXCELLENT!!! A MUST VISIT. Aruns takes Thai food to a level that's unexpected. Presentation of EVERY PLATE is out of a picture book
I brought my husband here for his 40th birthday, and it was awesome! We are still talking about the dishes, they were unique and delicious. Everyone should go here at least once in their lives!!!
too pricey, one can't really do so much with thai food. great culinary aesthetics though.
One of the best dining experiences I have ever had. Classic Thai dishes with fresh, high-quality ingredients. Great Thai food can be cheap, but this is worth the price.
