Delivery ended up taking 90 minutes on a Wednesday. I ordered the Kow Soy (my Thai barometer) which came in two boxes. A couple minutes later after assembly, I took my first bite and was immediately impressed. The curry was still warm and had that peanut flavor I was craving. A good amount of chicken dispersed throughout too. Lastly, soft egg noodles that soaked up the curry and then plenty of onions, cilantro, and crispy noodles on top. Loved the overall taste and they even gave me some more spice on the side per my request.
We ordered most of the recommended Thai dishes with maximum spicy (of course, we are Thai!) and were never disappointed. You can enjoy one of the authentic Thai food at Aroy Thai (Aroy means delicious). If you want some Thai energy and savory nourishment in Chicago, make Aroy Thai one of your destinations.
However, this place accepts CASH ONLY, but they have an ATM inside. Enjoy!!
I've been here twice now and I am always happy with my meal. The staff is always friendly and the food is good. Last time the Pad Prik King was great and extra spicy π₯΅. This time I have to recommend the spicy sausage. It was so good I forget what my main dish was. It is made in house and a perfect mix of herbs and spices. The Best in Chicago IMO. Again my wife was happy with her dish off the Thai menu (written in Thai for Thai, lol).
If you're looking for an amazing Thai spot, this is it. I've had tons of great Thai in Chicago, but Aroy is pretty special. My personal favorite were the wings. Probably 8-9 wings for $12 and they were delicious! Green curry and bbq pork fried rice were also great. Owner is so welcoming and nice!
I love this place, I must say the papaya salad is always great for starters along with The sautΓ© chicken. And the pad Thai is to die for. My friend loves the chicken curry very flavorful. The picture below is the sticky mango rice delicious dessert. It hits the spot. Great ambience with great service highly recommend this place!!
Cash only! We got pad see ew and squid salad. Pad see ew was great: soft and chew noodles stir fried in a lip-smacking sweet and savory sauce with a good amount of wok hei. The squid salad was a flavor bomb, packed with sweetness, tanginess, and spiciness. I especially enjoyed how much lemongrass and herb were packed into the salad.

Food came late and they said they put meat in our curry. They said they will make a new one. We ordered massaman curry with tofu and found some meat in the curry with the last bite.
Great food, but don't bother ordering Delivery directly from their website. We've ordered from Aroy on many occasions and really enjoy the food, but after missing items multiple times and not getting promised credits after calling them, we won't be using their website to place orders. You'd be better off with a DoorDash or GrubHub to ensure orders are accurate and getting money back if something goes wrong.
Just cash only. The food just ok, not interesting. Never comeback again.

One of our favorite Thai places in Chicago. The food and service from their family is amazing. Extremely bold flavors!
Disappointed with my recent experience at Aroy Thai. While their Instagram feed promises authentic Thai flavors, the reality was quite different. The dishes were overwhelmingly sweet, lacking the balance and complexity typical to Thai cuisine. It's unfortunate that the execution didn't live up to the hype.
Havenβt tried anything else other than the panang curry. Meat was very overcooked. Curry was too sweet, watery.
Rating on food only, as we ordered to go, but... wow. Incredible food. Had spring rolls, basil fried rice, eggplant and basil, and basil duck. All fantastic. We got a 3 on spice which provided a great bite for our varying heat tolerances.

They only take cash, which is not clearly stated on their google page. They only take card for online orders.
Food is pretty good. I had the crab rangoons (classic), khao soi, and panang curry. The sauce for the rangoons is a little sticky like honey a bit and itβs awesome. They also contained pieces of carrot and celery although the celery doesnβt really hurt it wouldβve been better without. The curry and khao soi were both fantastic although the meats for both felt a little over cooked as they tasted a bit dried out but other than that a great meal overall!!
The most authentic Thai food you can possibly get in the states. My whole family loved it!
Right up front I'll say Aroy is not our "go to" Thai restaurant; Chicago is fortunate to have so many wonderful options. Still Aroy is a great choice if you're near Ravenswood or Lincoln Square.
Portions are generous. For instance, their chicken satay appetizer is quite flavorful and perfect for sharing between 2-3 people.
The real standouts are their curry dishes; the duck curry is a showstopper. Spicy, flavorful, and unforgettable.
And consider the mango sticky rice for dessert. It's very (very) sweet, but perfect to share after some spicy entrees.
Service is generally good, though you might wait a little longer if dining outside. And a heads up: itβs cash-only, so come prepared.
The food was incredible! Highly recommend
Great spot for a yummy meal after a day of walking around Chicago. We ordered the Pad Thai and Cucumber Salad and it was plenty for two people. Note that it is cash only but there are ATMs nearby.

This used to be my favorite Thai in Chicago the food is very good, the place is clean and the people is friendly.
However a few years ago Aroy Thai decided to only take cash which makes it inconvenient. Also their prices keep getting higher and higher and a middle age woman came to supervised the restaurant and makes you feel uncomfortable. Also it is more challenging to park on this area with most streets having permit parking.
So now I order from βThank You Thaiβ in Lincoln Street which takes credit and debit cards, is delicious and I take it home as is only for take out. No need to give tips.
Cute and good food
The food is really great here. I get something different each time and I am always impressed. I do always make sure to get the potstickers. The staff is very nice and the restaurant has a cute atmosphere.
Great panang curry, so much flavor!
Excellent food at very reasonable prices. There are 5 spice levels to choose from. We chose 4 which was plenty spicy but not overpowering. The papaya salad, Tom Yum meatball and meat tender soup and ChuChe pork especially good but really the whole meal was terrific.

First time trying Aroy Thai and was disappointed with the mediocre, watery panang curry. It was extremely hot inside, no air condition, only a small fan in the background. Waitress was attentive, but service was very slow. Probably will not return.
Cash only place without cash only prices. Half the seating is against a wall thatβs two feet from the table.
Overall pretty good experience. The service was great as our waitress was attentive and accommodating. The atmosphere is very low key and small- nothing special but youβre there to eat and it is comfy! This place is cash only- but there is an ATM in the back. The only issues I had was with the Tom Yum fried rice and the boat noodles. The rice wasnβt very flavorful and there wasnβt much shrimp and squid. As for the boat noodles the flavor was definitely there but it could have had more beef and meatballs. I would definitely return and try some new dishes.
Love hidden gems like this. I stopped in for lunch and had a pineapple curry with shrimp, and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Do visit if youβre in the area and want a solid lunch.
Every Thai dishes here are great! especially grilled pork neck.
Food here is always tasty & amazing! Our serverβs very attentive & friendly! The ownerβs also very sweet & kind.
The chicken satay was soooo good and they gave us a big juicy mango with extra cream! The owner was extremely personable and talkative. Def will come again :)
A true authentic Thai experience!
Drove 1 hour and 15 minutes to try this place based on recommendations. My family and I had a craving for boat noodles, we usually go to another place near argyle but we decided to try a new spot..
Servers were nice, but food was extremely sweet. The crab papaya salad, the basil fried rice, & the boat noodles were super sweet. We tried to balance it out with vinegar but still was not good . But if you like sweet, go for it !
I donβt like to waste food so I tried to eat as much of the noodle, meats, & veggies in the boat noodle, i couldnβt take the broth. My brother took 2 bites and couldnβt finish it because of how sweet it was.. I felt so bad about him wasting but he just couldnβt take another bite ..
We really wanted to like this restaurant due to the reviews and recommendations.. they did tell us if we donβt want it sweet, we could ask them, but during that time we didnβt know how sweet it would be .
Incredible service and food. Would visit again!
Three of us decided to go late. We called ahead and there was a table ready when we arrived. Everyone was very friendly. Everything we ordered was delicious.
Couldnβt recommended highly enough! The food is phenomenal and the service was speedy. Everyone who works here is very friendly.
Go to spot for Thai food in the neighborhood! Especially love the pad see ew. Really nice staff !
Such a vibe. The food is so good and the ambiance is comfy. We had peanut sauce spring rolls (delish), pot stickers (heck yeah), Duck Bamee Noodle (yuuuummmm), panang curry with tofu (so good), peanut sauce noodle (mmm), and Thai iced teas. The service was amazing and the owner was around making sure we were enjoying everything.
Really good crab rangoons with lots of filling, and the pad kee mao is nice and spicy! The portions are a bit smaller than other places though.
The food was very good, so were menu prices.
But we drove 40 minutes to try this restaurant based upon a recommendation and it is cash only which I havenβt seen advertised anywhere. I only had my credit cards with me.
Also, there were 3 tables in there eating including ours. There was some Instagram girl who does food reviews.
during the course of our meal he stopped at their table at least 5 times to check on them. He never once asked how we were and our table was literally right next to it.
That left a bad taste. The food was good enough but everything else means we wonβt go back.
Based upon the owners comments to reviews Iβm sure heβs a nice person so I feel bad but it is what it is.
Aroy Thai was absolutely delish! I came here twice within one week the first time I heard about this restaurant and was so pleased with the quality of the food and service. A must visit Thai restaurant when visiting Chicago and if you live here!
I have been ordering food from Arroy Thai for several years now including the pandemic. Today's order was below their usual good quality. There was hardly any chicken in my kow soy, the noodles had clumps in them. The egg rolls were missing altogether. Not sure what happened but definitely a subpar performance.
Best Thai in Chicago. Get the Northern Thai dishes!!
Disappointing. Our usual spot closed so ordered here for takeout. Didnβt receive a full portion, overpriced and barely had any flavor.
Great off the beaten path menu
Definitely worth our drive from Jefferson Park.
It was lovely, the appetizers were very tasty and very generous portions! I tried a new noodles dish that I have not seen elsewhere dut I cannot recall the name.
Very nice over all great service and delicious food, definitely worth a stop for Thai!!
Ordered delivery from here and glad we gave it a try! The order arrived much earlier than ETA, everything was super fresh and on point! Fresh ingredients, generous portion, unique menu and good price, we plan to check out their restaurant in person.
For delivery orders, we recommend ordering directly via the restaurant website since it was so much cheaper than via delivery service platform. Also things are properly spicy, so be warned American audience!
The food was delicious and the variety was there for the choosing. We were there to celebrate my hubby's birthday and it was truly a wonderful experience. It is a must if you like Thai food. You will be pleasantly surprised and full.πππΎUpdate
We were there with our family again and everything was so good I had to share again. Thank you, Aroy Thai, for making our anniversary and birthday celebration special. β€οΈ
Warm, inviting atmosphere where it feels like youβre in someoneβs home. You can tell they take a lot of care and pride in the food they make and you can taste it. Excellent take out, have yet to eat in, thatβs next on the list! Very flavorful food with fresh ingredients.
I love Thai food and have been to many Thai restaurants in Chicago, and this is the #1 on my list. Here are my go-tos:
*****Pad kee mao and Pad see ew
This is the dish Iβd order at every Thai restaurant I go and a lot of times I just get a sad dish of sloppy and soggy noodles. And I hated it when restaurants use broccoli instead of Chinese broccoli. Not at Aroy Thai! Their rice noodles are well-charred and have a ton of Wok hei which I love. I can feel that caramelization of the sweet and savory sauce. Such a comforting dish.
Fried half chicken(forgot the proper name)*****
This is usually on their special section. The chicken is crispy and juicy. Thereβs also a lot of fried onions on top which makes the dish even better.
Crab fried rice ****
Again, cooked with a lot of wok hei. Good portion and decent amount of crab meat in it. Iβve tried several different fried rice and this is my favorite.
Papaya salad ***
Their papaya salad is on the sweeter side. And donβt get ambitious with the spice level. I ordered level 3 for the first time and could barely eat it. Now I learned my lesson and go with 1. It still has a kick and the heat would build up in your mouth the longer the chili peppers sit in the sauce.
Food was decent and I can see why people like it. The restaurant being cash only was a bit of a shock which could have been embarrassing, as I dining with a friend from out of town. Yes they do have an ATM (which is a βconvenienceβ I havenβt seen in a cash only restaurant before). But with card holder wallets and ones attached to phones, itβs not unusual to have someone carrying only a driverβs license and a credit card. Thankfully, I had a debit card on me. But there was a moment of panic of thinking βoh man, what if I canβt settle this billβ which is a feeling Iβve never had before. There really should be large signage on the door and menus to avoid potential embarrassment
I also understand that small businesses may not want to pay the larger credit card fees associated such transactions. However, we now have many other electronic payment options which could be made available: Zelle, Venmo, etc.
Honestly, the payment experience ruined the whole meal experience for me. Probably will not be returning or recommending, which is a shame, because the food was decent and the service was polite.
So good, canβt wait to go back.
Good prices, & great service.
Flavors bright and full, lots of contrasting textures.
Sausage appetizer simple but super delicious.
Broths were tasty, salads were great loved it all!
Always amazing super savory Thai food.
Delicious Food. Clean and friendly staff
We got a couple dishes to go. Pork neck salad and Pad See Ew. Caution with the spice! I got level 3 and was dying (I can normally tolerate a good level of spice). I couldnβt eat much and had to chug a glass of milk. More spicy than normal Thai restaurants. Good portions and flavor. Would get a 1-2 next time
Delicious π food
Expensive cash only restaurant.
Ordered delivery. Got here in 20 min. Green curry is on point! First time ordering but will again. Solid work!
I love it!!
The curry is so sweet it's inedible. The tom yum khai was also way too sweet. So strange.
wow! my Thai friend said this is her favorite place so that is why we went. it did not disappoint. the food is super affordable and they give u great amount. highly recommend the chicken satay and the masuman curry.
we got the crying tiger thinking it would be the same as Opart Thai, but alas, it was not.
It is cash only so please bring cash if you want to avoid ATM fees. Staff is very friendly!!
Cash only
The wait staff were timely and courteous and attentive. The order came quickly. The food was delicious! Prices are very reasonable. Will be returning.
I recently visited Aroy Thai Chicago with my wife for lunch and had a mixed experience with both their service and food offerings. While there were a few positive aspects, I encountered some issues that I feel are worth mentioning.
Firstly, I have been a fan of their Massamam chicken in the past, but recently, I noticed a decline in quality. The dish used to be thicker and richer, but now it appears watery and lacking the desired consistency. This change was disappointing, as it diminished the overall enjoyment of the meal.
Secondly, it is worth noting that Aroy Thai Chicago does not accept credit cards, which can be inconvenient for customers. Instead, they require patrons to use their ATM to withdraw cash. While I understand that there may be reasons for this policy, it does prioritize their own convenience over customer service. It would be more accommodating if they offered alternative payment options to ensure a smoother dining experience. It does not translate to customer saving any money - lunch average price is over $14.
Furthermore, I observed a concerning practice related to parking in front of the restaurant. They placed a sticker that reads; Aroy Thai Parking only on a City street sign, designating a 15-minute parking limit. While this may seem fair at first, it becomes apparent that the intention is to deter customers from other businesses from parking in front of their store. This practice raises concerns about fairness and seems to prioritize their own interests over those of neighboring establishments and their patrons.
I hope that Aroy Thai Chicago takes these concerns into consideration and works towards improving both their food quality and customer service.
One of my favorite thai restaurants. Food and service is great. Lot of choices
Favorite Thai restaurant in the city; always go for their authentic options. The staff is also incredibly nice and helpful when making selections!
Love there food Ben's was my place . But now this is my place π€€π₯°ππ€
One of the best restaurants in the city!
Clockwise top left
Phrik khing swai fish
The fish has a thick chewy coating that soaks up the lemongrass/gingery sauce, perfect with a bite of the crunchy green bean and sticky rice
Crab meat egg noodle - very rich, salty and satisfying
Larb Kai - ground chicken with crunchy fresh aromatics. I also like this bite with sticky rice
Pineapple fried rice - sweet and buttery
In the middle, Thai grilled pork shoulder, with the best funky sweet spicy sauce
$80, for two with 4 small boxes of leftovers. Also recommend hitting Rockwell bottle shop to byob!
favorite thai spot, the larb is elite here
Portions are on the smaller side and they do not give out hot sauce with takeout orders, disappointing.
Delicious! Ordered takeout via their website and it was hot and ready on time. You MUST try the mango sticky rice dessert - it is magnificent! We loved everything we tried from pad Thai to the curry. Highly recommend!
Soooo delicious, super friendly. it's cash only but they have an atm inside, which is very thoughtful and convenient.
this is honestly one of the best meal I had. definitely recommend the Pad see iew and the grilled pork shoulder salad, I think lvl 2 spicy is good for anyone who want a little bit spicy, the tanginess really balances it out.
Good tasting food. For some reason they donβt take card in person l, but will online. ATM fee is $3.
Delicious food, and great service!!
I love that i live within walking distance. The flavors are so bright & beautiful. The portions are generous enough we always take some home for later. Staff are friendly & attentive. Mind the place is cash only & there's a corkage fee for the BYOB.
Yummy. Cash only.
Amazing food. I tried foods I would not eat and I loved everything. It will be my new favorite. Loved the sweet sticky rice.
What a truly delicious and authentic meal. It's a very small place, so if other diners are being rude, there's no escape. Cash only, BYOB.
Great food
Definitely worth eating there! Hidden gem that I hope it wonβt stay hidden for long. Supporting local businesses is essential in this economy and this place is worth it for sure!
This is a REALLY great Thai place. I haven't had Thai THIS good in years. Crispy pad see ew was amazing. Everything was very flavorful and cooked well. Absolutely coming back. Ugh so good.
Panang curry yum
Fast and friendly service with amazing food, the basil duck really had a kick at level 3 spicy, but I wouldn't get it any less than a level 3 π₯΅
Popped in here on a Monday for dinner with my daughter. What a treat. Busy but not crowded, we were seated right away. We had the Tom Yum Goong soup, crispy tofu appetizer, Pad Woon Sen noodles and the Masaman curry. Every dish was great. Tofu was genuinely crispy. Soup was very flavorful without relying on being spicy, curry and noodles were delicious. Do note that they are cash only (there is an ATM in the restaurant). Will definitely be back.
The best Thai in Chicago. Everything is fresh and authentic. This is a hidden gem
Again, we used Google and Yelp to determine a restaurant. The first 2 were closed. Aroy was open and empty.
The Pad Ke Mao was okay - mostly flavorless. The Cashew Chicken was a disgusting gloopy mess. I have had this dish 50 times at many restaurants. I do not know what this was, but it was Cashew Chicken. Plus the chicken was undercooked. Take a pass.
Best Thai restaurant I have ever experienced in Chicago!
September 3, 2022:
Believed to be a start-up.
I ordered sticky rice, when DELIVERED it was a log. Called for a replacement and that too was a log. I could not cut the log. Since I paid cash, delivery male returned $3.00 .
The 3 egg rolls not specific we're good but greasy. The cucumber salad was good, on the sweet side, but I asked for the dressing on the side. They couldn't do that for the same reason the rice was a log.
Food preparation comes from somewhere else(?).
Someone's home, child crying and sounded sick in background, allegedly.
Delicious food, modest place, lovely service, definitely recommended!
Literally some of the best Thai food I've ever had. The women who were staffed at the time were so sweet β₯οΈ
Great original Thai food at good price. Friendly staff.
Super delicious! Had the papaya salad and basil tofu entree. Spicy and so good
Their peanut sauce spring rolls are great, their noodles are amazing. Unfortunately, dont make the mistake of branching out to their pork belly salad unless you enjoy the taste of salty cat litter. Otherwise they are great. Oh - also a $7 corkage fee for wine is ridiculous.
This will remain a go to for takeout, certainly not dine in.
This is definitely my favorite Thai food in Chicago now! Delicious food, sweet and attentive servers, beautiful plating, perfect portions, and a lovely atmosphere. So excited to come back again!
Really good Thai restaurant! Our go too place, authentic flavors! Too bad is Cash Only :(
Everything is over sweetened. Thai tea was sugar and cream.. Waiter literally scraped plate with her finger before giving it to me. .. Food was not good. Very disappointed. Cash only place.
Maybe it was a bad day for them, but this place is nasty. The food smells like garbage. Everything tastes like it's been rotting in the fridge since the beginning of the pandemic.
Excellent traditional food!!
Always wonderful food
The sai ua was dry, there was a dozen or so random crab legs in the shrimp som tum (not mentioned in the menu?!) , but other than that the flavors are correct and was a decent experience for the price.
More than delicious. Always a good reason to back!!
This is one of the neighborhood restaurants that I frequently order from. I feel it's authentic and consistent. I particularly love their basil duck dish. Some of their plates are quite spicy even if you order level 1, so keep that in mind. Totally recommend!
The best Thai food in the city by far. We love T and the food so much.
Food is delicious. My daughter recommended me to go. Me and my best friend enjoy it. I have pad Thai shrimp, Pad kee Mao beef , green curry chicken, chef special boat noodle soup and dessert for banana sweet rice with black beans. My server is too busy with take out orders.
My (Thai) fiancΓ© and I shared the Pad Woo Sen and we both thought it was exceptional! The service was quick and friendly.
Amazing food. Still taste the same even after covid and all the related challenges.
Highly recommend!
I ordered some Thai from AROYThai I heard it was good Thai food I will never never again order from them they are so rude when I went there to pick up like I didnβt even exist again I will never again order from them and the food was nothing special I think the Thai on Clark is much better food than AROY never again their customer service is next to zero
Bad service, were rushing us to leave as soon as we sat down at end of lunch hour, you shouldnβt sit us if youβre gonna stare at us eat so you can rush us to leave, curry was over sweet
I had one of their curry dishes and it tasted good. I would definitely come back to try their other dishes.
Really tasty food, authentic and friendly stuff!
Some of if not the best Thai I've had in Chicago - excellent service!
Cash only, good food. Excellent ordering process
Excellent food ! If you are looking for authentic northern Thai food , this is the place to get it from. Quick service and every dish was bursting with flavor..Serving size is generous too !
Convenient, delicious and economical. I went here for the first time over five years ago with friends. I feel if you blink you miss this place. My love of thai food began here. I was convinced to step away from pad Thai (which Aroyβs would get a 6/5 review if I could get an extra star to give) I worked my way through the menu over the years and I canβt remember a bad entree. Itβs right off the Damian brown line so easy to get to.
Very solid Thai place in the Ravenswood/Lincoln Square neighborhood. Would want to go back to try out more of the menu, but the Pad Thai was solid!
