Casual Sushi and Thai restaurant offering dine in, takeout and delivery. We are located on 4431 N. Milwaukee Ave, Chicago IL in Portage Park/Jefferson Park neighborhood.
Nice and warm ambience- restaurant. Great atmosphere with the many full size windows. Comfortable seating too.
Food was absolutely delicious from the appetizers, thai ice coffee, main course Thai specialty dishes to a variety of sushi rolls! Amazing! See pictures.
Service was fabulous anf friendly. Dishes were prepared hot and timely.
Dine in, carry out and delivery services.
Yumm!
Metered street parking.
PERFECTION!!!! Everything I ordered was fabulous. The miso was perfect with just the right amount of tofu & nori. The seaweed salad was almost crisp...super fresh and not slimey in the least the way it can sometimes get screwed up. Not this time!!!The salmon teriyaki(you just have to ask as it's not on the menu) kudos to the chef. The " cabbage" bed was a bit small but the carrots & OMG broccoli were magical. Steamed just 2 seconds past raw!!!! And to splurge & treat myself the Thai iced coffee was just right as were the deep fried bananas(got a perfect potassium fix)! The delivery young man was polite, followed directions to call and even though it was a busy time & night HANDED me, the gimp, the food and made sure I was steady & ok!!!!AWESOME MANNERS & KINDNESS. The dinner was worth every penny. I could have done without the rice, but now have enough for a midnight "snack". And even though their sushi is also great....this
was a PERFECT DINNER. THANK YOU, RUK!!!!! OK THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE BUT 3 PERFECT DINNERS OVER SEVERAL WEEKS. MAGIC & SUPER HEALTHY!!!!!!
I’ve followed them for years and dined in many times. The past 2-3 times the food has simply been not great and we feel sick afterwards. No we didn’t call to advise and we can sometimes have a sensitive stomach but i feel the food was much better 3 years ago, rather than this past 12 mos. Good neighborhood spot. Hope they can figure it out.
Service was good given we were the only ones there. Food quality wasn’t great. Chicken egg rolls had a funny after taste. The chicken in the fried rice tasted old & chewy. The dragon sushi roll felt like the shrimp tempura wasn’t freshly fried, it tasted reheated & the eel on top of the roll had a gritty texture. This place overall didn’t seem authentic Japanese / Thai.
This restaurant has perfect 5 star rating on GrubHub despite being rated over 1500 times and I was curious. Th rating is indeed true and I just has one of the best shrimp tempura sushi in my life. Their signature dish is the Godzilla which is the one I had and it's definitely the best seller. I am blown away by th taste they pack in just less than 15 USD.
My first time there ! I asked the chef to surprise me with his best 5 rolls , and all of them were excellent, fresh fish, excellent mix of flavor ! I tried to pick one to be my favorite or to rank the rolls! Honestly they were all excellent!
Definitely will be back to try some more !
Got there for an early supper about 5pm on a Saturday so the place was empty and quiet which we enjoyed, plus service was prompt and attentive. I would recommend the Really good Tom Yum soup, served in a giant individual bowl! We also ordered a spider roll and crab Rangoon, can’t go wrong with appetizers and sushi at this place. A nice neighborhood spot for Thai and Sushi.
this place is terrible
not recommend

This place was on my path for years and my only regret is that I waited too long to try it. My new favorite place for Japanese hand rolls and Thai Pad Woonsen. Love!
Probably the best Tom Kha soup I’ve ever had. Absolutely perfect balance of flavors 👌
Probably the best Thai food in the city. Food is always outstanding and taste on point everytime we order.
Have been here twice with my adult daughter!
It’s byob so we bring wine 🍷 every time and have a great time it’s quite cozy and low key the food is the bomb.com!!!! Highly recommended on the corner in Jefferson park down the street from my 🏠!!!!!
It was the worst sushi I’ve ever had. They had broken down hot Cheetos and put in on the roll as “crunchy texture-hot”. I’ll never go back and I’m a sushi nerd and live in the building!
Introduced to the owner and felt I had made a friend for life. Food was fantastic.
Delicious maki. Super friendly owner of the restaurant made us feel like family. Also had really good curry dish. Highly recommend, prices are right and is byob!
Red Samurai roll was excellent
Best local sushi and Thai spot in the area. Their takeout is great and very fast, I love grabbing the lunch specials during the week. But I recommend eating at the restaurant because the food is amazing when it's super fresh. Great quality, taste, and value.
My family and I were greeted by a very nice server. We ordered both sushi and Thai dishes. They were absolutely delicious. Servers were very attentive as well. Great service.
I noticed in the years I have ordered, the portions are smaller and spike in prices. There's other places to order than getting ripped off. It was a good place when it was affordable and normal portions. Not ordering again here.
I get take out from Ruk all the time. Sushi, fried rice, pad thai, curry, it’s all delicious.
Cool sushi / Thai noodle spot if your around these parts!
This is one of the best Thai restaurants that I’ve been to. It’s very difficult to me and my wife to find an authentic Thai food that we love, and definitely this is the spot. Great service and amazing food. My wife and I are just in love with the food, and can’t wait to come back! HIGHLY recommend!
We love this neighborhood Thai space that has been around for 13 years. The variety of sushi options and the friend mango rice is our favorite. Obsessed with their Thai iced tea with cocunut milk as a base.
Ruk is one of the best places in the neighborhood for dinner & lunch! Menu is expansive and everything is a good choice. Sushi is affordable and delish. Service is wonderful, one time I order pick up some entrees with 2 drinks and after leaving the restaurant, they called to let me know I forgot to pick up the drinks with the rest of my order. But they offered to drive it to me. I will always choose this place.
I'm a regular here, and for good reason! The food is amazing and consistent, and the staff is always friendly.
Small place but amazing food and great for take out

This is my favorite Thai restaurant, the food is always so fresh! The flavors are perfection. Deliveries are always prompt, the orders are correct and the delivery people are always so nice. In person dining is also on point. The staff is attentive, helpful, kind and the space is clean and offers the perfect dining atmosphere.
The egg rolls were perfect and pad thai was good too. Service and decor were very welcoming.
Super delicious food and great customer service. The Tom Yum soup is my favorite and also the Godzilla, New York and spicy salmon crunch sushi rolls. Don’t miss out, try the Pad Thai dish, it’s extraordinarily delicious.
Nice and warm ambience- restaurant. Great atmosphere with the many full size windows. Comfortable seating too.

Had sushi for first time here. Just as solid as the Thai dishes. Run by family with pleasant, prompt service. Highly recommend, especially for lunch.
Food is art and magic; it evokes emotion and colors memory, and in skilled hands, meals become greater than the sum of their ingredients a great local place to make you feel back in Asia.

Best sushi in town..delicious fresh sushi, awesome Thai iced tea and coffee and their Tom yum and Tom Kha soups are hands down the greatest. Love this place. Paul and John the owners are absolutely the greatest.
Fantastic sashimi, great service, cozy spot. Crab Rangoon and shrimp shumai were delicious! And with BYOB - Will be back soon.
We really love this place. We moved out of the neighborhood but we love coming back for our favorites ( potstickers, Pad won sen with chicken, Pad see eiw with chicken and spicy cali crunch) We got the chance to try their dessert, bannan rolls, so delicious! Thank you Ruk! Great service.

This place was a treasure. It had amazing service and the food was great. The best part was the people and how friendly they were.
I want to change my review. we initially had a bad experience with the staff at Ruck Sushi and Thai. However, management responded to our concerns and we have since gone back and the service has been wonderful. The staff are great with kids and the food has always been great!
Really good chicken pad Thai! Quick service.
This is the best Thai near me and we love this place
Amazing food!!! Red curry, Tom ka, pad Thai, and mango rice are just a few of the personal favorites. I wish they would bring the calamari back because it was the best I have ever had. Also wish they would switch the mushrooms in the tomka back to white mushrooms. This place is so good inexpensive and byob
Regular here, highly recommend lunch menu
I used to like this place (and its menu) very much. Not anymore! I'm not sure what happened during the pandemic and after, but it is not the nice, cozy spot with the food I loved. I hope the sushi and maki still taste the way they did two years ago, but I aimed at Tom Yum soup and the shrimp Pad Thai. Both happen to be extremely disappointing. The soup I ate at the restaurant while waiting for the Pad Tai. It was spicy and watery, with 2 (or three) little shrimps, few pieces of cut mushrooms, and tons of diced (raw) tomatoes. I cannot complain about the four tiny (but tasty) egg rolls. The second course, I tried at home. I mean, my husband did. I couldn't believe that what I received was the old, tasty Pad Thai... There were no noodles (only a cooked white rice on a side, no eggs, no well known veggies usually added to the dish... I couldn't believe my eyes! Really. Awful disappointment and waste of time and money. Never again will I visit the place! I didn't even care to complain or return the dish. I just wanted to get over my disappointment and rage far away from Ruk - at home.
Everything is good but you have to wait for your food
Great tasting food..
Fast, taste very good!!
Such a cute place and the food was amazing!
Tasty and clean!
Lunch special was a nice treat. Baby egg rolls and a cup of soup came with my chicken pad Thai. I also ordered a Thai iced coffee.
Got Fried rice in the lunch specials, came with 2 egg rolls and miso soup. Generous serving of rice and all the food was delicious!
Great service. Offers fried Sushi option which is a great option that I did not know about.
Food was a 10/10. The water doesn’t taste funny like most places. I got full and happy after
We've eaten at Ruk for YEARS as it's one of the only places we can find something every member of our family will love, and the food and service is always excellent. Our affection Ruk has only increased since one of our family members has been diagnosed with celiac. They take such good care to make sure everything we order is gluten free. They are kind and patient and offer fantastic ideas for substitutions.
The food is delicious, from apps, soups and salads to noodles, curries and Sushi. Thank you, Ruk!
Great staff! Food was great and fresh!
I'm good food and a great place, can sometimes same a little irritable when speaking to customers.
Consitantly fresh food( Sushi is the best in Chicago) friendly owner! A must after Jiu-jitsu.
the pineapple & mango fried rice (spicy) is SO GOOD! I’m from Australia but next time I’m in Chicago- I’m coming back!
Great food
Amazing beef pad thai. Great service and environment. Just go you wont regret it.
The service was fast and the food was good. They have changed their decor since the last time we were there and I am sad to say not for the better, pretty bland to be frank and I am as much about the ambience as I am about the food. Their food lineup has also changed, many of their unique dishes are gone and the fare is very standard but tasty!
Pre-cut sushi. No fresh fish. Very hard rice. Paid like I would for decent sushi (it wasn't). Didn't get sick though... so 2 stars instead of 1.
Overall this place was pretty good usually... last time I ordered I found a larvae in my edamame... idk if they had switched suppliers but im very disappointed...
Bad service, lady didn't wanna explain the menu! Don't waste your time!!!!!
They're good people, and work hard to deliver on a broad menu that would be challenging to anyone. Not surprised to see a few blemishes from others' experiences, but they deserve the stars because they hold it down on a walkable corner while executing on delivery orders efficiently. Delicious everything, kind (but no frills) service, calming decor.
My new favorite spot. Great food for a reasonable price that's always fresh and delicious. Staff is always pleasant and accommodating. Tried quite a few different things there already and so far I have not come across a bad dish yet. Keep up the great work!
We’ve been going here for years and it’s our favorite. Both Sushi and Thai tastes as good or better than places that charge much more.
Good food, very friendly staff, and a nice place to grab a quick lunch.
Really nice establishment, good quality food, reasonable prices, excellent service. We had sushi, sashimi and potstickers - Would definitely eat here again.
I’m hesitant to be so negative because I’ve had two excellent orders from Ruk. Unfortunately, my last two (so, 50:50) orders of sushi and sushimi were so bad that I had to throw them out. It’s pretty disappointing to order dinner only to find that the fish is maybe (days?) old and tastes *fishy*. It’s the last thing you want in raw fish or sushimi. I could eat raw tuna till I die of mercury poisoning but unfortunately the tuna quality at this place won’t let me. I’ll have to look elsewhere!
Seriously, my standards are low. I just want it to not be fishy. Don’t misconstrue this as inexperience, I know my fish. But as far as I’m concerned, all of the other nuances in raw fish flavor are fairly up for grabs with varying prices. Freshness is not.
Also, bacon covered scallops were bacon covered bay scallops. Maybe this was in the description, but be warned, you’re eating a piece of bacon covered in chili sauce. That’s it. At least my baby liked it! (Tasty, just not scallop-y)
We really enjoyed our date night tonight. Friendly service and tasty hot soup on this cold Smarch night.
The worse customer experience ever, they said that if I ordered take out I can't change my mind. Very rude very unpleasant. So sad!!!!
The waiter kept pulling down his mask and coughing now I have the flu possibly covid, was literally the first time I have went out in a month... so disappointed and frankly made me fearful of going out again.
Thai at its best!!! Deeelicious!!!
I love the lunch special here. The BYOB is super nice. Exactly what I’d expect and want from an Asian food place.
DELICIOUS
A cozy dine in restaurant that serves both thai food and sushi. Once we entered we were greeted and was given the option to sit wherever we liked. The service was good with the food coming promptly. We ordered the bangkok sushi , portage park sushi and mount fugi sushi.
The presentation was great and food was amazing. I would definitely order again
The customer service was terrible. One of the women on staff was very impatient and rude while taking my order. I asked her to throw something in the trash for me and she told me to throw it outside. I felt that she was mean to me because I am an African American woman. I asked her if there was a trash inside but she insisted on sending me outside to throw away a small trash bag. I was going to order something else but I left instead. I told her that she was very impatient and I felt she was discriminating. It’s sad that people still act this way! Lord have mercy🙏🏽
Worst Thai food we have ever had! The noodles for the Lad Nar had deep-fried and we’re cold and greasy. There were only two very small pieces of broccoli swimming in a pool of thin gravy with chewy pieces of beef. The chicken pad Thai had very little flavor. Extremely disappointing! Will never go back to this restaurant nor recommend it.
Absolutely the best Tahi ever ❤order all the time friendly staff a must have
Wonderful food but poor service by a gal who didn't want to exchange rice for noodles.
We love to order from here, always good quality. They are however a little skimpy with the ginger for the sushi, but we forgive them. lol
I got the pad Thai. It was pretty bland and the flavor I can taste is very one dimensional, the dish is about textures mainly. I don't hate it or love it, but I wouldn't waste my money on the dish again.
Friendly staff, fish was Not fresh, rolls small, clean place, nice decor
As some other people have said, the sushi is not very good. My boyfriend had something with octopus and it wasn’t edible - too tough and rubbery to chew. Maybe just stick to the Thai food.
The food was excellent, though the booth was a bit uncomfortable (narrow).
Thank you.
Great food, great prices! The lunch menu is small but a big value. Nice folks working there too
Amy was great! There store was reallly clean super nice food was excellent!
Delicious, great selection of sushi! Didn't get to try the Thai, but I'd definitely come back for it!
panang curry was fire! very delicious!
I was very disappointed, the person in charge of taking the delivery on the phone was very rude, and all happened because they messed up my mothers day dinner. I put please add cream cheese on one of my rolls and she denied putting it because she said I didn’t pay for it. They don’t have an option to add and pay for cream cheese on the menu online!!! So what I would have done if I were them is CALL THE CUSTOMER and let her know HEY IM NOT PUTTING WHAT YOU ORDERED BECAUSE IM ASSUMING YOU DONT WANT TO PAY FOR IT.
I HATE SUSHI WITH NO CREAM CHEESE. THANK YOU FOR MESSING UP OUR MOTHERS DAY MEAL!!! I WILL NEVER ORDER FROM THIS PLACE. JUST FOR NOT BEING NICE TO YOUR CUSTOMERS YOU JUST LOST A CUSTOMER THAT ORDERS EVERY WEEK!!!
Just lost a customer TO CREAM CHEESE AND for not being polite!!! take care of your customers!! I will leave this review in every place I can online!!!
I LOVE YOUR FOOD!!!!! But I have question what is in your sweet dressing for the cucumber salad? I dont live any where your restaurant any longer and I am dying to know?
I didn’t enjoy their pad Thai but wish I had tried other things sooner because their basil chicken (Pad krapow) is fantastic.
Best food I've ever eaten
Food is good but I feel one of the waitstaff can use some good manner classes. She seems always annoyed and bothered by questions and rushes you while ordering. I doubt I'll be coming back.
Good jeff park staple
Great tasty food. Friendly staff and nice place. The spicy basil noodles with chicken and miso soup are delicious!
Byob good prices
Find some off menu treats here . .. Like Sumo
Nice spice level - you can actually get hot Pad Thai! Nice menu choices, including great lemonade
I ordered the red curry (spicy) with extra vegetables. It was delicious! I also ordered the Summer Maki roll. It was ok. 4 out of 5 roll pieces had tuna. I also believe it was over priced for this. There is still no dining, but the order online is very easy! My meal was ready and red curry was hot!
Great food and service
Food is amazing everytime
Food and service is always awesome here. Love this place!!
Two words: Delicious
Tum yum soup is so delicious and very filling with noodles! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I love the sushi too. Very great nieghborhood gem
Friendly fast service, tasty food.love it
Fresh sushi!! Small quaint atmosphere. A great place for a casual lunch.
Cannot express how much I love this place. I literally do a happy dance on my way home from picking up my favorite panang curry and sushi platters in the city.
Good food, quick service, BYOB, good price. Not crowded.
Not terrible Thai on the NW side? I'll take it. Red curry is a standout.
Great sushi
Always delicious. Always quick, friendly service. Clean and inviting space. Always seems busier with carry-out and delivery, so there plenty of seating even though it's a smaller space.
I love their sushi and other items on the menu as I am a foodie. But, I never give a 5 star as a business can always improve in some area of there business.
Amazing. No words needed. Anything you order will be amazing. No matter what time.
Personally I find the food a bit flavorless and rubbery. Note that I do not equate pure spicy heat with flavor.
However my wife and kids love the place and we go all the time, so what do I know?
Sunday. 6 pm. Called to order for delivery. Ordered before many times. Live about 2 miles from the place. In the middle of ordering, the lady on the other side starts arguing with someone in foreign language for 2 minutes and then leisurely tells me - they can't deliver. It's too far. Call another location.
Great service.
First time I tried ruk was a few weeks back on the weekend and it was amazing but today I ordered it again and they messed up my order and after finally fixing it and going home to enjoy it it was not as good as before the tempura was over cooked and chewy , they also forgot the wasabi as well and it was not as good as before this spot is definitely better on the weekend as apposed to getting it on a weekday
The workers are super friendly and have good serves very good thai foos
Delicious!
Went with the family had a great time. Very good good. Perfect amount of seasoning and flavor. Sushi was great as well as the sashimi. Great service.
