Soft jazz music drifts through the dining room and delectable aromas of Thai spices waft from the kitchen. This is what you can expect here at altThai, where we strive to provide the best quality in everything we do -- from delicious, affordable Thai dishes to warm and welcoming customer service.
Try our classic pad thai or garlic scallops, or savor our crispy salmon or spicy duck rolls. Whether you're pairing your dish with a glass of wine for a romantic date night in downtown Arlington Heights or just need a quick bite, we will be happy to show you the fresh food and attentive service we are so proud of.
Beautiful restaurant with good service. The sausagee appetizer is very delicious, not too spicy. I ordered the Hawaiian chicken, expecting something sweet and spicy, but it was more like sweet and sour chicken. I should have known since it's not a normal Thai dish. Basil Fried Rice was very good, with many vegetables and protein. Pad Kie Mao w/ shrimp lacked flavor and not spicy (reviewed by my Thai wife). My daughter liked the Pad see ew. I asked for Thai Hot for my orders but found it to be maybe medium.
I would like to give more than 3 stars, but I've had better.
I ordered the Dim Sum Set, which was good but the portion size was a bit small for a two people appetizer and it being $10. The main courses I had were the Pad Kee Mao (medium spice with veggies) and Red Curry (medium spice with shrimp). These dishes were very delicious and had good presentation but the spice level seemed lower than expected since it wasn’t spicy at all. I would recommend people with good spice tolerance to order a hot or extra hot dish. The service was nice and welcoming and the ambiance was great.

Me and my wife especially drove here to try it. Such a disappointment. We ordered Satay Chicken for appetizer- this is good. Chicken Tom Yum soup- fair a little weird in taste. Chef's Favorite Seafood Noodle- presentation is beautiful, taste is ok. But the noodle was so dry that you need to drink water at the same time to swallow it. Then Basil Duck- presentation is nice but my God! The duck meat was so salty, I don't even think I can be considered edible. I could say I wasted my $90. The waitress explained to us that they are not considered as authentic Thai restaurant but a fusion of Thai. That I do believed bec when we look around, all their customers are Caucasian. Will definitely not recommend this place.
First time trying this place. I really like how you can choose your spice level on any dish. The staff were very nice and they actually check on you. I didn’t have to ask for my water to be refilled, they were watching and when it would get low they would come over which in my opinion is excellent service. The fresh tofu rolls were good, tasted fresh and crisp, not watery, good balance of flavor. The papaya salad was very different. It was good but a little large, couldn’t finish it all. The pad see ew was very good except for the noodles. I felt the noodles were over cooked and too broken apart. I would have liked the noodles to have stayed intact and longer instead of scooping up bits. Veggies were cooked nicely and sauce was good though. This place is in a great location downtown Arlington heights and overall I would recommend checking it out.
I have been a customer of AltThai for over a decade. This place is very expensive for thai. My bf was picking me up takeout, he had a long way to drive so he asked for the thai iced tea with no ice so that it wouldnt water down on the drive. They couldnt even fill the cup to the line. We just spent $40 on a one soup & one noodle dish and they couldnt even fill the cup to the top. What would that have costed? 35c? Like i said, i have been a returning customer for years & years but now im rethinking of supporting this place because they cheap out. Siri Thai II in palatine will give you double the portions for half the price & is wayyy more authentic. Skip this spot.
Edit after owner responded:
It may be standard practice at Altthai, but thats not the case for all Thai spots. as i said in my initial review, Siri Thai 2 in Palatine & PenThai in Des Plaines will fill your Thai Ice tea all the way to the top if you ask for no ice. Also, as a barista (at a small family owned cafe lol) thats not even a standard at all, can you imagine how many businesses would catch flack for serving beverages half full if a customer asked for no ice? again, i am industry & we are talking a 35c difference.
wait was 10 minutes on valentine's day with reservation. they ran out of drink menus (and they aren't posted online, so i took pictures to post to their google maps section) and our server didnt get to us for 20 minutes after we were seated (which, okay, friday night dinner rush, let alone it being valentine's day).
when the drink menu says $4 for tea, it is not a pot of tea, but one tea bag with a 10 oz mug of water. was a little disappointed by that.
spring rolls were very good, i liked my massaman curry.

Lady who took our order was super rude ,giving faces and no patience atall .very disappointed.will never visit this place again .
So good every single time!
Overall good food and big portions. The reason I gave 2 stars is because we ordered lamb chops to be cooked medium and they were all raw red inside. My son kept nibbling around them so they were technically ‘eaten’ which is what the manager kept arguing about and wouldn’t offer another dish or a refund. He said this is how our ‘medium’ is….well then please inform your customers if you’re going to serve raw meat for medium. If you don’t cook them medium and they’re supposed to be well done also please inform your customers. A nice evening totally ruined because of the bad attitude of the rude manager!
In response to the manager’s reply…..we specifically requested for medium well…NOT rare. And we know how different a ‘pink’ meat looks from a raw red meat. More than the food it was the rude attitude of the manager that was really upsetting and embarrassing…..bringing back a cleared away dish and showing it to prove a point. A polite ‘ can I cook something else’ or ‘bring you something else’ would have been much more appropriate for a service industry establishment. Oh well….first and last time there.
We've eaten there twice and have enjoyed.
Beautiful restaurant!
I had Pad Thai chicken... it was just ok. Kind of bland.
Great place for dining solo, in pairs, or in a group. A beautiful ambient atmosphere with authentic Thai art and decor also makes it a great place for a date. Loved the fresh and savory take on the chicken pad thai. The chicken satay appetizers were savory and delicious as well. Portions were hefty and I had enough for leftovers! The crowd was mixed in terms of age range and group sizes. The staff were attentive and quick. Unfortunately, the dessert I wanted was seasonal and unavailable. Free parking is in the lot behind. I am already looking forward to coming back soon.
Delicious food. Great service.

Food quality has gone down the past year. It’s not the same place it used to be. We’re done going here or ordering it again.
My partner and I got food poisoning for their food (Massaman w chicken and Pad Thai with tofu). I called this morning and didn’t even receive an apology. They only told me they haven’t heard any other reports and that they’ll tell management. It was just disappointing… my partner is so sick. :( We won’t be going back.
Food was good but service not at all she never check on us to see if we needed anything we had to ask to refill our cups of water
Very bad service terrible, food all disgusting and stinky I do not recommend. I am very disappointed.
Beautiful restaurant with delicious food places right in downtown Arlington Heights. The wine selection is decent alongside other drinks. The food portion was great. A bit pricey for Thai food, but the service and dining establishment was nicer.

Great food as we have been patronizing this place for years! Prices have gone up quite a bit! Love the authentic Thai food experience!!!
The service was very distasteful and a very low quality of food. We were expected to read their menus fast like robots and our server was just hurrying us with unpleasant attitude to give her answer despite being our first time in this restaurant.Pad Thai tested like vinegar and flavorless, red curry with eggplant was better but still low quality. The egg plant was tossed last minute and was completely raw and tasteless. At least make sure it’s a bit cooked it’s not a carrot.
We were hungry and wanted a decent meal but this place is ridiculously low quality in every angle. Food like that should not come out of the kitchen.
Updated to restaurants feedback.
If you really looked at the video with honesty , when we first walked in our server was waiting for an elderly woman to finish looking at the menu to order at the counter and she looked irritated. A proper etiquette would be to acknowledge customers with a simply hello and mention someone will be there shortly to seat them since we waited for sometime before being seated by another server. If you watched the video and read my lips or if it has audio, I did address to her it’s our first time and I looked dumbfounded about the manner and the speed she was talking to us . We couldn’t even understand nor catch what she was saying.
Next when the food arrived I did say out loud it tasted like vinegar and it did not taste right nor had pleasant flavor so asked first another nice server if there is sriracha to give some level of flavor ,she said no and mentioned there is a house hot sauce so I said yes better to try that than nothing. It came and I initially added a very small amount, tasted it and really nothing changed. Am not new to Pad Thai and I have had many. So the person I dinned with offered to exchange food after tasting the curry and I agreed. Yes he added more hot sauce to make it at least edible since we went out of our way our way to get to your restaurant and were hungry. If you also noticed I was picking on the curry and left the only few raw eggplant slices in the dish on the side along with other vegetables and ate the rice.
The curry did not have many vegetables on there probably 4 slices of thin carrots , and similar with other used. Thats not even 1/4 of a carrot. Same with the pad Thai. Buying bulk whole Sale foods ,I bet all the vegetables in the dish didn’t even cost you a dollar overall.
Sending back the food despite the taste was not a risk we chose to take because we don’t know what would happens behind the scene before our food comes back since the server was unpleasant.
Food sometimes may not come out tasting right, different things happen in the kitchen and can be corrected. If our interaction with the server was pleasant to begin with , it would have resulted in a possible better outcome, may have made up for the food, and our wasted time and money.
Wonderful staff, delicious food and a cozy atmosphere. I'd be a regular here if I didn't live several states away. Definitely a place to look forward to when visiting.
Good food. Decent prices. Lunch menu option.
Service is hit or miss. Sometiems their nice, sometimes, not so much.
But good Thai food. Parking is rough at times.
They have variety of options and meats or vegetarian options. We got for appetizers calamari, coconut shrimp the shrimp were amazing. The meals you have an option if the person would like non spicy medium or spicy. Overall good food and service was great.
I tried the red curry, but it lacked flavor. It’s usually a safe choice at a Thai restaurant, so I was disappointed. The only highlight of my meal was the Tom Yum soup.
Nice place but very muted flavors in their food. Tastes fresh though
Overpriced. Inconsistent with their dishes. I usually order the Beef Pad Se Ewe. It's great when done right. When not, there's a lack in seasoning or the meat is too fatty which gives it an off-putting taste. The serving portion is also on the smaller side. Wasn't always like that.
The food was really good.
Pricy
Decent portions, good taste.
No complains

Food was great 5 stars! The fact that the restaurant has no changing table in either of the bathrooms, ZERO stars. Please think about your customers with infants/ toddlers. I had to change my daughter on the floor with a changing mat. 🤦🏻♀️😵💫
Great food
Amazing food. Was nice to try something different from all the other places out there. Had the chicken rice cashew dish which was excellent. Can wait to go back and try other dishes
It was my first time having Thai food and I am glad I tried it. The pad Thai with shrimp and chicken satay with peanut sauce was very good.
This was a new find for me.
Went there for lunch twice and loved it..
On both visits.
Great food
Friendly staff.
Clean place
Our first impressions were that the place smelled very good and clean. The service was so nice! The prices were accessible for everyone! And the food was delicious! We will definitely be coming back!
One of the best Thai spots in the NW burbs!
I ordered the Dim Sum Set, which was good but the portion size was a bit small for a two people appetizer and it being $10. We have been dining at altThai for years. We tried many other Thai places here and abroad (Canada recently). To us, nothing compares to the food we are served at altThai. It is flavorful, not heavy, and the variety is excellent. In addition, the service is never amiss. Too bad we have to drive 20+ minutes to get there, else we would be there weekly.
Food is ok, their manager is very sarcastic and rude most of the time. Atmosphere is very nice.
Loved the food, we ordered chicken satay which the kids loved, pannag current, red curry and mango sticky rice. All the dishes we ate were delicious.
very good curry. fresh vegetables, great mix of spices. if it's busy in the area, there's a free underground parking garage one block west (evergreen avenue)
Adorei a comida.
Quando falam de muita "spicy", não se refere à pimenta, mas a uma variedade de temperos .
Pad Thai was excellent!
Good food nicely decorated. Great service. Loved the sticky mango icecream.
Really appreciate their ability to make vegan accommodations. Lots of tasty options to chose from.

food was ok.
I was there with my aunts and nephew on Friday. It was our first time.
I wanna say, the food was great.
However the waitress -wears glasses-who took our order was pretty rude. Acted like we don’t understand in english. She refused to say things twice, talked very slow too rudely like “whattttt proteinnnnnn 😒”
Her attitude and all that was unnecessary.
It was an overall very much uncomfortable experience. Thanks for that lady.
Ok'ish food, good service. Standard thai food that you will get anywhere
We ordered basil duck and basil fried rice with chicken from lunch specials. They give you soup, egg rolls/salad to choose on the side. Food, ambience and service were the best! Our first Thai experience in the Chicago suburbs. Go try it out!
Great place. Been wanting to go there. Wife’s first time trying Thai food and she was really happy with the experience.
We have been going to this restaurant for years. Their food quality have consistently been great. Last year they were only doing carry out and delivery but now they have opened up completely.
We dined in here after over a year. This place gets very busy so recommend making reservations before going otherwise you will be waiting for a while. They have limited staff so service can be slow but they try to be efficient..
The food is consistently delicious and comes in good quantity. We always start with cucumber salad and spring rolls that comes with sweet plum sauce. Their pad thai has good amount of peanuts and topped with strip of beet root. Pat se eew is very soft and delicious.
Overall a great place to eat and happy that their dine is now open.
Don’t bother to go there if you have kids. They don’t have a kids menu and won’t even bother to help you with some alternatives. They expect us to order a 20$ portion for a 5 year old?
Also our server Amy was so unpleasant. Very rude expressions and delivery. I would have still considered eating there and ordering a full portion for my daughter if the server was pleasant.
Never coming back here!!!
The noodles were cold by the time they served. I wonder if they even stir fried it through. The curry was good. The coconut shrimp was minced shrimp.. not a complete shrimp.
Good and authentic Thai food place!
Great sticky rice and sweet sticky rice
Food was very average. The salad sauce was too sweet for my liking and lacked complexity in its flavor. Not willing to switch out white rice for side of vegetables. Service was okay but the waiters were a bit short and difficult to get the attentions of.
Muy buena comida y excelente servicio Muy limpio el lugar los precios excelente la comida muy buena
Authentic local Thai cuisine..at last. Well-presented and very flavorful dishes. Clean and inviting surroundings, friendly and attentive staff, and very reasonable prices. By far our first choice for Thai food in the. Northwest suburbs.
Favorite Thai food. The panang curry is awesome and the chicken pad Thai is delicious. We also load up on pot stickers- literally have tried from multiple places and here they are the BEST. Always clean and rhetorical bathrooms smell great.
We ordered the Tom Kha soup and there wasn't any cilantro or green onions and over powered with lime juice. We asked for mild spice for our soup and massamun curry, but they were both spicy.
Food is prepared well and delicious. Staff is attentive and considerate.
All authentic and savory food dishes. Prices are fair and the staff were very kind and attentative. Highly recommend!
We had the chicken Tom Yum soup. It was pretty tasty. I've only enjoyed 2 places and this is one of them. The other was Thai Room but they're closed now. I had the basil fried rice. It was ok. I'd try something else next time. The fried icecream is pretty good
Chill atmosphere for good Thai food with friends. Would come back again. Didn’t get a chance to take a pic of the food, however it was very good! Appetizers were delicious as well!
Alt Thai has been one of our favorite restaurants. We went for dinner tonight and were pleasantly surprised to see they had expanded and changed the decor. Beautiful ambience and of course, the food was delicious !! We ordered veggie egg rolls, red curry with tofu, and pad kee mao.
Best Thai place in the area. The food is amazing and the drink selection is good. They also have great options for vegetarians. If you're craving Thai come here!
Excellent, friendly service, great food, and a relaxing atmosphere. I would make reservations for Friday and Saturday dinner because we went on a Sunday night and it was still half filled. Pro tip: when they say mild, medium, or hot, they mean it. If you're not into spicy, get the mild. If you're into spicy 🔥 you're going to be happy.
The food was great and the ice green was delicious.
We went in and had the massaman curry, duck rolls and pad see ew, all fantastic we also had tai iced tea, id recommend heavily
Curry plate EXTREMELY TASTY. Now about the service……..the young guy was polite. But when we walked in , since we were more than 5 persons and the place has the gratuity included 18% no matter what, we felt an unpleasant air from the ladies seating us. Other than that, a great place to try healthy dishes
Had to leave the place after waiting at the table for 20 mins. No one bothered to inquire or even take drink order. Won't recommend.
AltThai consistently has fantastic food. The curry is crazy good. I'm always glad to return for more.
I was a bit skeptical at first, since I never tried Thai food but it surpassed my expectations.
Delicious food
My wife and I just returned from dining at altThai, the food, the service, as well as, the dining room were absolutely top shelf. I don’t know why we hadn’t heard of this place, the chicken egg rolls, the papaya salad, the Thai fried rice, the Pad Su — were excellent. Fresh, appropriate amount of spice, served piping hot, great flavored sauce and dressing.
We will be back soon, and will bring friends
Goood
I ordered to go for the first time and everything was excellent!
Sadly we still live in the day and age where we are judged by what we look lik, even when ordering takeout.
Stopped in here on route to my home, instead of randomly ordering off grubhub I figured it’s on route why not? Wrong, stopped at the desk and asked for a menu to take out, middle aged lady told me the menu is online like it always is and acted like I was attempting to rob the place (for reference I was in fleece pants, tennis shoes, my Carhartt jacket and a wooly cap having just left the gym). I again asked for a menu and luckily the gentleman behind the counter was kind enough to pass me a paper menu to order from though I already knew what I wanted. Made my order and proceeded to sit on the waiting area chair.
Food came in time quoted, waited quietly shocked I couldn’t simply order a meal without being screened or stereotyped. There was only one table dinning which was a larger Asian party, sadly I must be the only white disabled male who eats Thai food in Illinois.
Save yourself the embarrassment of going here unless you’re in a full suit, tuxedo at the minimum, us poor lookin folk don’t belong in this here establishment.
Luckily I was doing takeout and not dine-in, I might have been killed. Judging by the way the lady spoke to the male employee and her staff she clearly shouldn’t be front of house speaking to people that way.
Great food and services.
Wide menu, tasty food, and fast service with reasonable price. Must try.
This is the best Thai food in the area. We ordered pad Thai bbq pork (hot), 2x pad see ew shrimp and tofu, pad Thai tofu, and thai fried rice. Everything was delicious. The bbq pork was so good and the "hot" spice is a good amount for a spicy food lover.
Love the way they present food.
Lovely food, lovely prices
I been to this restaurant almost every week. I had reservations at 7:30pm and we got table at 8pm. The food is good but if you don't mine to wait then go ahead. I’m telling everyone about this restaurant. But I was wrong. I never come back to this restaurant again.
The food was tasty. The dishes are pretty big sized. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food they serve. Kids friendly, but some kids were at the restaurant playing and a bit loud, and the staff looked irritated and even told them not to misbehave. Parking is available, but can be limited depending on the time and the day
My waiter Art, was very nice and patient. I just wanted Jasmine rice with BBQ pork but it wasn't an option. Art was able to help me figure out what I could trade out to make the meal I wanted. It was very delicious and I really enjoyed it. Art was very helpful and made this experience really nice.
Outstanding food. Great service and wonderful atmosphere. Will definitely come back!
Always enjoy our dinners here. Eating in or takeout, it's phenomenal.
Busy and clean Thai-Pan-Asian eatery with quick service and delicious menu options.
We ordered:
1. Tom yum soup
2. Wonton Soup
3. Crab Rangoon
4. Basil fried rice w/beef
5. Thai noodles with shrimp
6. Curry
7. Salad
We made a reservation for the same day and glad we did as the place is busy with dine in customers and pick up orders. They do accept walk ins given they have space.
Food is fresh and they do have a drinks menu with limited selection of beers.
Food was very good, gluten free options are very limited.
Nice thai food especially chicken fried potstickers and Panang curry. The service was really good and the server had amazing knowledge for the dishes.
The food was not good this time around. The Thai fried rice tasted like absolutely nothing. So incredibly bland, my husband's pad see eiw tasted weird and my chicken pot stickers were cold inside. Not sure I'll be going back here...
Love this place! The food is amazing. I absolutely drool over the red chicken curry and pad Thai (without tofu)...get take away from here every two weeks or so! ♥️
Made a reservation using Google reserve. The food was great. Had the scallops with chilli …awesome! Scallops were cooked to perfection, not rubbery like many places, and the spice was on point
Awesome, like always!
Nice place to dine in with family.
My family really enjoys Alt Thai. Today our take out order was a little messed up so I called and they profusely apologized; they had a new trainee. They promptly refunded the appetized platter that was missing some items and they added a $5.00 gift certificate. This was more than necessary and I really appreciate their generous response! We will definitely be back, both dining in and take out.
Great tasting food! Friendly service! Clean place!
Had such a great evening! Food was fantastic and service was OUTSTANDING! Thank you altThai!
Been here many times..they exceeded my family expectations in almost all times
I love this Thai place. By far my favorite anywhere.
Awesome food!
My favorite Thai place!!
They wanted to charge me for the extra tinny dry slice of lime that I asked for. They gave me one, and when I asked for second, He came at me with the attitude there is going to be ab up charge. Have some humanity.! I always order here and they are stingy but wont any more. Sometimes its the principle…
I just love this place! Not only is the food superb, the staff was very accommodating with my allergies. I have family and friends who have been there many times who recommended it. Ambiance is cozy too❤️
Best Thai food I have ever had!
Great lunch spot! Portions are big and great selection.
Love the food!
