Eat in Thailand without leaving Oahu..
Honestly, kind of an amazing place. It's located at the wooden food truck area, which is actually pretty nice. The truck has a nice ordering screen. It has vegan options. I've often been surprised at how much I enjoyed my meals here. I'm addicted to their vegan / Ganesha larb at the moment.
Best of all, Thai hot is actually hot here! Not as hot as I'd like, but I'm used to Thai hot at a lot of places not even registering.
Highly recommended.
To this day, these are the best drunken noodles that have ever graced my taste buds. Don’t waste your time reading reviews if you’re hesitant about this place, JUST GO AND GET IT WHILE YOU CAN. There’s genuinely no other spot like this, and I keep trying to find or replicate this delicacy of a meal, but I simply can’t. I know the picture doesn’t do the noodles justice, but trust me… you won’t regret getting it 😫
Regularly visit elephants shack while I was stationed on Oahu. Now that I’m no longer work on the island, I do miss coming here and watch the sunset while enjoying my meal. Maybe someday when I have the chance to come to Hawaii again I will definitely pay a visit and order my favorite dish again. Oh how I dreams for that day to come.
I had an unfortunate experience during my recent visit. The individual managing or working at the establishment displayed unprofessional and aggressive behavior, which severely impacted the dining experience.
Specifically, I witnessed an incident where this person physically pushed a customer who had voiced a complaint about their food being overly salty. This behavior is unacceptable and reflects a lack of basic customer service skills.
Additionally, there were issues with food availability. The restaurant ran out of steaks, yet instead of offering a clear resolution (such as reimbursing the price difference for a cheaper substitution), the staff repeatedly pushed the offer of Thai tea without addressing the concern.
Other issues included limited beverage options—Coke or water only, with no alternatives listed—and a poor interaction where the individual appeared to take issue with my facial expression upon learning of the limited options. The focus seemed less on serving customers and more on asserting authority or teaching lessons, which is not appropriate in a customer service environment.
Overall, the experience left a lot to be desired. I hope the management can address these issues to improve customer satisfaction and foster a more welcoming environment.
Visited in Sep '23 during our walk around the nearby park and we were delighted to come across this little built up hub which had an array of food trucks.
Went for their Thai BBQ Chicken Salad and it was beautiful ❤️
It was just the right amount of spice & tangy.
Ordering was straightforward as they had a touchscreen kiosk that you use to order, though the lad that was there was approachable if you have questions.
It was on the pricier side during our visit but it was of high quality vs. big chain restaurants (from our experience of dining in Oahu).
Would visit again if we ever find ourselves on this side of the globe.
BEST MEAL I’VE HAD ON THE ISLAND. My partner ordered the pad see Ew, which was extraordinary. I had the spicy chicken Thai and I was in heaven. We came for dinner so my pictures do absolutely no justice as to how good the food was was. Seriously best meal and I highly recommend stopping in for a delicious meal. The service was great, the vibe is a vibe. Next time I’m back in Oahu, I’m absolutely stopping in.
The pad Thai was scrumptious!
I can’t say enough good things about this place! Their spicy chicken fried rice is out of this world. You can customize the spice level and even swap out the meat, which is great for mixing things up. The food is consistently delicious, and the service is always top notch. The guys working there are super friendly and make you feel right at home. I find myself coming back at least once a week because it’s just that good. Highly recommend!
Overall pretty good Thai… I’ve had better from food trucks but the curry was good. The pad Thai was lacking however. Great ambiance in this little food truck grove. But sadly our other diners were rather disappointed with the food from the other trucks. This is by far the best truck in this grouping.

A new family favorite! Everything is so fresh and delicious. If we’re any closer we’d probably have it twice a week- there are so many delicious options!
food is incredibly salty. The yum nua tasted like charcoal

Meh food, was meh and owner is meh so meh! Hihihi
I had a horrible experience at Elephant Thai Shack. While trying to place an order, a staff member lost their temper and went on a racist rant at us and demanded that we leave immediately.
This entire behavior stemmed from the employees inability to do basic math and give us a paper receipt when the POS system was not working. When we offered to help, and asked for a receipt to explain why we owe him the bizarre amounts he was asking from us, he lost his cool, and went on his racist and profanity filled rant.
While this experience was bad, I also want to give the owner credit where it’s due. My last time I came to this place, I had a great experience with both the food and the service and would never recommend someone skip this place.
However this particular employee’s behavior was absolutely unacceptable. I am willing to communicate with the owner to tell them about this experience in detail, and personally hope he takes the appropriate steps to ensure no one else ever experiences this!
I am also making this very clear that we do absolutely demand an apology from this employee and the owner for our experience. If it was just the employee having a bad day and had a slight outburst I would have been nicer and more balanced in my review. But in 2024, I refuse to tolerate overt and blatant racism.
Stopped here after a sunset sail. We go the Penang Curry and Pad Kee Mao (veggies/tofu both). SOO delicious!!! Thanks for being here. Loved the ambiance and nice set up with lights and tables, clean. Will definitely come back!
A co-worker recommended this place and I was pleasantly surprised.🥰🥰🥰
Had the Fish Nua. It was bomb.❤❤❤

This restaurant is not Gluten Free and Vegan friendly.
Uber Eats lists it as a Vegan restaurant however I guess even if you ask for something to be made Vegan they are unable to make the food without Animal products?
I ordered the Thai Basil Rice and asked to be made with No Egg and The Pad Thai which I guess contains a sauce with Gluten?
Could have been made with no sauce or just oil.
This restaurant did call but my phone battery was low and was unable to answer.
I do think they should have made products to specifications and just have taken out any animal or gluten products especially since if you type "Vegan Gluten Free" in the Uber Eats search bar the restaurant pops up.
S'guud ya'll!! Our first time here. Yum Pla was super delicious, very flavorful. Penang curry was exactly what you want. Takes a little while cuz they make it to order, which is what you want. BTW, take the spice level seriously, they aren't playing around here
If you have a choice, DEFINITELY go to the Sunset location rather than the Waikiki location. Customer service and the quality of how the food is made is significantly better. Had the Thia Basil Fried Rice with Shrimp! DELICIOUS! 🤌🏾🦐🍚🌿🌶
I will never eat here. Awful customer service. I nicely asked the chef who was setting up about their lunch hours (because they aren't written on the truck) and he acted like a total arrogant jerk. He stared me down angrily and glared at me for like 15 seconds before begrudgingly telling me the time. It was really weird--he acted angry, like I was inconveniencing him by trying to support his business. A total turn off. I don't care how good someone's food is; if they're a douche, I'm not eating their food.
Good vegan options clearly listed
From LA here in Honolulu, this Pad See Ew is top notch. Better than LA. Add the shrimp! Love the atmosphere for a food truck. Wood deck, nice lights, light techno music and awesome flavors. We did mild and still had some spice.
Waited almost an hour for my food. After waiting 30 minutes I went up to the server and asked her if my name was already called. She told me my food would be coming up so I waited right in front of their door on the bench. After another 30 minutes went by and after calling out 10 more orders and making eye contact with me each time, I asked how much longer it would be and she had to ask me what I ordered after checking her tablet and not being able to find my order even though it was supposedly "coming." I asked if we were skipped and she didn't take any responsibility. She just replied with "it will be started now." Horrible service and food was fine only because I was starving by the time I ate. And by the way they automatically give themselves gratuity so that's why their service is so bad.

Rude customer service. Perhaps put a sign that you’re closed instead of being rude and yelling at folks.
I order the pad thai with todu (says it’s vegan but no) because the noodles are made it with egg and chicken broth
My favorite vegan/vegetarian noodles on the island!
My Pad Thai was burnt. Noticeable it was burnt but they still served it to me. Music was loud and obnoxious too.
In response to the owner’s response:
I ordered two pad Thai dishes. One with chicken, one vegan. The vegan one was burnt. I’ve eaten the vegan one here once before and it was good but this time we took the food to go mostly because the music was loud. So driving all the way back and getting the food remade was not an option for me.The person eating the chicken dish said it was ok but the chicken seemed overcooked but not as bad as my vegan dish. If I decide to give your place another shot I will be sure to do a quality check before I leave.
Location is wrong online, they don't accept cash and a gratuity fee is added automatically online as a default. The food is edible but the overall experience is hard to swallow. For the price and hassle you might as well just fly to Thailand.
I was going to put 2 stars but my date made me bump it up to 3 because she is nicer than I am.
7:00pm a 2 mile walk and was worth every step. I had Thai basil chicken spicy and my wife had pad Thai chicken. Hot quick and good portions. Will be back
Absolutely love love this place. Best Thai curry on island. I absolutely love the pad thai.. spicy of course. The veggies are crunchy, perfect portions for the price and the food is fresh. Most importantly i love the pay system. The flow is so smooth that they never have to stop to take an order as the computer system does it all. Sitting by the water, chill lights and vibe with bamboo trees is LYFE.
A 10% is required and you are then asked to add an additional tip on top of the 10%.
The food looks great, but a tip should NEVER be required. I will not be tipping 10% at a food truck where there is minimal service.
The worker wasn’t friendly and didn’t understand how the point of sale system works.
This is my first stop and last stop from airport. It’s the food I think about when I’m away. It’s sets the bar for all Thai food going forward. Every entree is delicious. And order the green papaya salad as a side for your entree. Kevin and team always take care of their guests. Bonus if Yoda is on duty.
so good had to come back the next day bc they didn’t have pad kee mao. tried lard gai for the first time and it was delicious too
Best Thai food on the island
Get the pad Thai. You won’t regret it!
Oh man, huge shout out to The Elephant Shack. I rocked up at 8.59pm (they close at 9) and they still whipped up a fantastic Thai Basil Fried Rice with Chicken. One of the best fried rice dishes I have eaten in a long time.
Beautiful and relaxed outside patio, surrounded with large plants and picnic tables plus low lighting giving it a real chilled vibe.
5 stars all round, would definitely come back.
Ingredients tasted very fresh. Got the Panang curry, had a nice creamy coconut milk flavor to it.
Food was good and decent price. The issue we had was the point of sale (POS) system already charged an automatic 10% gratuity for cooking food then the POS asked for an additional tip. I don't mind leaving a tip but I also don't like not having the option to choose what I want to leave. Just raise your food prices like everyone else to add the gratuity into the total cost of the price.
*Food allergy friendly* the owner/chef/operator? Was very knowledgeable about ingredients and allergies. Helped my wife order pad Thai with no gluten, shrimp, or milk. The egg fried rice was amazing! It’s so rare to find a good fried rice that’s not super wet with too much sauce. We will definitely be back here when we come back to Hawaii.
Our favorite place to bring friends and enjoy ono Thai food. Mahalo 🥰
Yum nua super delicious!
Waited 45 minutes for our food before walking up to check and see if our food was ready or how much longer we had to wait. He asked if we were picking up, I said yes, and he responded ok one moment. I stood there waiting for him to finish up what he was doing since he was clearly cooking 3 different meals at the same time. Then he says to me don't do that. Confused I ask what? He says stare at me, pressure me. All I wanted was to see how much longer till my food was done. Pad Thai and the Thai Tea was pretty good but with how long we waited I doubt we will come back. But there is a mobile app you can use to order ahead which would definitely help if there is a next time.
literally my go-to spot for a post work meal. food is so tasty and filling, i don’t think i’m ever not craving a meal from here. owner is super friendly and kind. atmosphere is calming and aesthetic. for my vegans there are so many options and everything is clearly labeled vegan and non-vegan. perfect place all around and i’m wishing them all the best. hopefully we’ll see some more of these pop up around the island! :)
Great little food truck just off of ward by the harbor. I'm obsessed with their yum pla. The fish is perfectly crispy and a nice limey tang with only a hint of spiciness. Service is excellent and quick. They have yummy Thai tea too!
The way I INHALED the spicy Yum Nua. That plate did not stand a chance and I didn't even get a photo in time. Super generous juicy steak portions, really flavorful sauce, and good jasmine rice that soaks up all the juice. Only wish they had more veggies cuz I swear it had exactly one cherry tomato cut in half 😂 but it was good and the cucumber slices add some good freshness and textural crunch too. Not a cheap meal but it absolutely slapped post-surf and came out fast with friendly service. Did spicy level but wanna try the Thai spicy next time! 🤙🏻
This is probably the worst thai food I’ve had (and I’ve only had cheap thai places in NYC). We ordered a Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, and Fried fish over rice. The fried fish over rice was too sour, the chicken in the pad thai and pad see ew was dry, and worst of all, the pad see ew was burnt (it’s not charred when all you taste is bitter) and had eggshells in it. The wait was around 50 minutes - 1 hour and the whole order was 55$ (literally the cost of KBBQ for a whole family at Sara Hawaii across the street). While waiting, a customer was asking how long their order would take and the chef replied with curses. You could chock it up to peak dining hours or whatever, but with such high reviews I was expecting a lot more than something just edible.
Went to this place to try out the food truck as we have been trying out the others throughout the week, but my younger son didn’t want to eat that kind of food so we stopped by jack-in-the-Box to get him food. We sat down on the table in the area of the food truck as we were settling him in to eat, then a guy in the food truck said: “Jack-in-the-Box, really?”
I asked him: “do you want us to move?” He said “yes!”. My other son said: “we were gonna buy food from you, but I guess we shouldn’t”. Then we moved away to another table closer to another food truck from which we ended up buying food. He followed us, and we noticed he had a beer in his hand. He still came up to us and my youngest son told him to stay away from us. He continued being rude to us. He told my youngest son: “you think you’re big”. My wife arrived to the scene and heard what he said. She immediately responded: “you’re the one that started off bad. What do you expect us to say? You’re the one that’s being rude to us”. He finally walked away, but sadly, it was a bad experience for us when we in fact like to support street vendors. Would had been nice to try his food to really review it, but he didn’t give us a chance. The Mexican food trip next-door was really good on point the two young boys paraprofessional.. I went there last year in September. There was a lot more food trucks. I don’t know if they’re struggling but this is not a way to conduct business by kicking up potential customers.
Forgot to take a photo of the chef's special, but it was ONO!!! Plus, he made it for me on rice since I'm not a huge noodle fan and it was still Ono😋...try anything on the menu you won't be disappointed & the outdoor vibe is cool too!
We were just here 3 days ago and enjoyed the Yum Pla, which was delicious and big enough for 2 to share. However, we returned today to try the Pad See Ew and were very disappointed to discover that they are currently closed due to “operating without permit”.
The vegetarian pad Thai is the best I've had on the island, highly recommend
it changed my life
they take care of you. my favorite Thai spot on the rock.
This food is legi, top notch. I would recommend to anyone.
We had a very decent Penang Curry here tonight. Initially, it was bursting with all the right flavor, until the sweetness overwhelmed the senses, coating everything and was all we could taste. The flavor of the curry was fantastic. But it was also very sweet, way too sweet to be authentic Thai food. It’s tough to write this review because it could be a solid five-star food truck review but there are several things I must pick at, other than the excessive use of sugar.
This place is all tech and nearly contactless, except for the use of the technological ordering system, which requires one to touch the screen.
Because of the reliance on said technology, no one in the truck turns to acknowledge you or answer any questions.
The serving containers are way too big for the portion size. So although you’re paying for $20 of food, the curry container is 3/4 full and the rice is 1/2 full. Photos will confirm this. If the containers were smaller, or if they contained more food, then it wouldn’t feel as though one didn’t receive their full serving size.
Price point is steep for what it is. It’s a food truck. But the price point is brick and mortar.
TL;DR: too sweet, good flavor, expensive.
Delicious and clean
$16 panamg curry + $5 for shrimp & veggie = $25 for good flavored sauce with 3 small shrimps, 3 small pieces of broccoli and 3 large pieces of zucchini. Seriously??!!??
So disappointed!
Kung pow was phenomenal, and the folks working the truck were super nice!
I ordered shrimp pad thai and while eating it I noticed a roach in my food! I talked to the owner who is the cook and instead of an apology he got crazy rude and said I put it in there? I was speechless and will never go there again!!!
WOW! This is the best Thai food I have had in awhile. I got the Ganesha larb - complex beautiful layers of fresh spice with a perfect amount of heat (medium) to enhance the flavors. Highly recommend!!
Literally the best Thai food we’ve ever had and we’re from LA where Thai food is everywhere! We really love the outdoor seating especially at dinner time with the lights on. Ambiance is dope and chef was nice. We got the pad Thai, classic fried rice, larb, chicken wings and Thai tea - all 10/10 recommend.
Thai food truck is awesome! The best Pad Thai I've had on Oahu so far.
Incredible food, atmosphere reminiscent of the food stalls in Asia. Lovely owner who learned Thai cooking in his grandmother's kitchen.
Guys there were super helpful and friendly, Pad Thai was amazing, full of flavour and well presented. Great seating there also, clean and tidy.
It is really nice people and food came out with super fresh! I almost empty out my plate but it still very warm! Pad thai is really great. And pad see you is my husband’s favorite.
Shrimp pad Thai is awesome! Strong flavors. Noodles are all time.
Really solid shrimp pad Thai, we also got drunken noodles with chicken - both delicious .. best Thai we’ve had so far in Oahu
Wow. Some of the best if not THE best Pad Thai I’ve ever had. Everything was super fresh and tasty! We’ll be back for sure!
What a find! Great pad Thai and drunken noodles. Such an unexpected gem.
I had pad thai and grilled steak (can't remeber its name) with my family. They all were really delicious, and the staffs were kind as well. Apart from that, my little girl loved their 4-month old puppy and spent a bit of time with the puppy. I really appreciate they allowed my baby to play with the puppy. What's more, the atmosphere of this truck is really cool, all of my family got to love it instantly.
A hidden gem. So glad I ran into this, some of the best Thai food I’ve ever had!
The pad Thai here is probably the best I’ve ever had. Thank you Kevin! Looking forward to coming back.
Delicious, quality ingredients and Authentic! Highly recommend for pick up or enjoy the seating outside.
Outstanding, bright, clean, tasty Thai food, superb veggie options, served with a side of wit.
Great service and the food is amazing!!
Great food. Very fresh and tasty! Wonderful service!!
