For the past 40 years, Chiang Mai Thai Cuisine, a family-owned restaurant, has been part of the community of restaurants on the island of O’ahu.
We have strived to give our patrons’ palates the experience of actually being in Thailand.
Thus, from the original recipes passed down from our mother (Chanpheng), we have placed much emphasis on freshness, exotic herbs, spices and locally grown produce.
Please enjoy and explore our menu, which offers a great variety of dishes including vegetarian.
We look forward to serving you and providing you with a delightful culinary experience.
Peaceful and beautiful atmosphere that recalls a bygone era. Absolutely wonderful.
Our food came as ordered, Thai broccoli noodle stirfry with chicken and the Tom Yum soup with fish. I’m not sure if they use MSG, but the food had a depth of flavour that would indicate it. The stirfry was a bit oily, but all ingredients were well-prepared. The soup was on the sweet side, the fish tender and delicious. The only complaint is that there was a $5.50 charge for adding vegetables to the soup; those consisted of a few slices of carrots and stems of broccoli.
I’d go back, though, for the ambiance of this Thai restaurant.
The food was really good. I had some vegetarian spring rolls, a cocktail, and a noodle curry (Khao Soi). It was a good spice level and the ingredients were so fresh. The table service (my server went by Marcus) was great as they were knowledgeable about the menu and could explain and give recommendations.
Our first time here, my partner and I ordered 3 entrees not knowing they were gonna be HUGE. Our leftovers fed us for lunch the next day. Great value for price.
They had live music when we went on Thursday night. The wait staff was super attentive, friendly and personable.
We ordered the tom yum seafood soup, shrimp paste fried rice and Khao Soi.
If I had to recommend one dish, it's 1000% gunna be the Khao Soi. The flavor was perfect, so full and beautiful. Comparable to the authentic Khao Soi from Chiang Mai itself. Felt like being there without the flight!!
Parking; we came at 5 and the parking lot was empty. Left at 6, the lot was nearly full.
This continues to be our favorite Thai restaurant on island. I have been coming here for years-I mean a couple decades (or even a tad more). Being Thai, I'm pretty particular. I love all the decor and flavors of anything we order. It makes me feel like I'm in Thailand. We came last night on a Saturday evening with no reservations and despite there being a private event in the area we normally sit, we were seated immediately. They now have specials that are new to the restaurant as well as live music Friday and Saturday nights. I always order the same which is pad kee mao (still ordered), spring rolls vegetarian (still ordered), and panang curry but wanted to try something different. I ordered the khao soi and was not disappointed. I have tried others, albeit few Thai restaurants on island serve this, but I prefer Chiang Mai. I hope they incorporate this on the regular menu. I also tried the mango mai tai and it was delicious. The mr had massuman curry (hot and it was hot) which has always been his favorite. I think almost everyone that worked the floor came to our table multiple times to check on us. We felt very cared for. They have impeccable service and delicious food.
The only drawback is looking for parking which is not on them but we'd park 100 miles away just to come here.
Most of the time reviews are shared only when people have a terrible or incredible experience. This review will fall certainly in the latter. I’ve been going to this restaurant since I was a little girl and it has been consistent in taste, environment, and service. It quite literally feels as if it has been frozen in time. The decor and the seat placements have remained for the past 25 years. The people who have served me and my family make up a family themselves who’ve saught to provide an authentic Thai experience in the restaurant.
Every time I visit Honolulu I make a trip back to Chiang Mai because it is the closest thing to my mother’s Thai cooking. It’s nostalgic and special every time. This time was a meaningful visit. I noticed there was a missing picture on the wall above the table I usually sit in. I have grown up thinking about this picture. Wondering who this princess was. What made her so demure? How did I know she was a princess? This picture was missing and replaced with another. I asked the owner about the painting and he said it was in the back. Towards the end of the meal they came out with the photo and said it belonged to me now. I was beyond surprised and honored. This photo means so much to me. I sort of feel bad for taking it from the restaurant so others who also may be attached to it can enjoy. This painting has lived rent free in my mind and I feel so lucky to have it.
That is how the Thai family owned restaurant maintains what matters most. The Thai sense of a warm welcome.
Excellent Thai food. Love the crispy noodles. Actually all the food is great. Such a busy spot and so the servers are run off their feet, which impacts service. Definitely make reservations!
Great Thai spot. Consistently delicious and very friendly staff.
Was craving pad Thai but we got pad kee Mao, flat noodles with veggies and chicken. Medium spice was really light to me.
Ong Choi with beef had lots of other veggies too, beef little tough.
Evil jungle princess curry has a nice flavor, would have ordered sticky rice but was on a diet.
Eggplant salad flavors really pop and would highly recommend this.
Love the unique seats on tables by windows.
Parking can be tricky but park by meters if u don't trust how others park.
Not sure if the management changed but everything about it has. The food is much simpler and not as it was in the past. Curries had no vegetables other than potato and onions. Prices were up 50% from my last visit. Lastly, the restaurant let a woman with a dog in and it ran around the restaurant while people were eating. I do believe ESA animals are not granted exemption in restaurants - only in accommodations. This was the final straw. Probably won’t go back ( the service was good - I will give them that). Let me add that they charged me $2.50 to use a credit card for payment. Nowhere did it say that this was going to incur an additional charge.

Food is good but always too hot. Even mild
Very good authentic Thai
Authentic Thai food. Love it!!!
Always super fast for take out usually 10mins for spring rolls (best we've had) and either pad thai or massimon curry with sticky rice

Best Thai food in Hawaii. Go and find out for yourself!

The most amazing authentic Thai food around
I got the panang curry (hot), and this was some of the best I've had. A lot of the other dishes I saw them prepare looked really good as well. I'll definitely come back again if I ever get the chance!

We ordered many of the vegetarian dishes. Sadly they all tasted the same. They are about 30% over priced compared to other Thai places in town. With a 20% tip five guests $ 236.00.
Wonderful staff and friendly servers. Excellent Thai food including all the standards plus some great stuff on the specials menu. They accommodated our large parties on two nights.
この店は40回以上訪問してお気に入りの店でした。今日も食事は美味しかったのですが、いつもにない高額な価格を請求されました。店員さんに尋ねると正しい値段に修正されましたが、非常に残念な気持ちで一杯です。
Best Thai restaurant in Honolulu, food is delicious, people are friendly, and food comes out hot. Great variety of appetizers and entrees. Will cook to desired temperature, from mild to Thai hot! This is a small, family neighborhood restaurant, and great for take-out.
Delicious food, service was amazing too!
Atmosphere was great as we walked in and very authentic. I ordered the spicy seafood soup and loved it!! Will come back the next time I am in town :)

Very good Thai food at a reasonable price. Not cheap, but reasonable. You'll like it
Food is excellent! You can customize the spice level.
I wish they would go back to a thicker green curry. It needs more cocunut milk in my opinion
Nice ambiance. Food was delicious. Great options for vegetarians as well!
Good Thai food, friendly wait staff, been around forever.
Bathroom cleanliness needs attention.
good food, but expensive compared to the other 100 thai resturants nearby, Red curry with nothing in it no vegestables or meat just the curry is 19 dollars, next door the same order is 10 dollars. Both are good.
Really good Thai food here, and the servers were awesome. Got together with some friends and we really enjoyed the food and service. The food was family-style, where everyone shares, so we ordered a lot of different things. The only concern was the parking, so you may want to carpool. Otherwise, the food, drinks, and desserts were amazing.
Super stingy on the rice. $50.00 on family style entrees and we were given about 1 cup of rice. Would not recommend!
How disappointing it appears they have no vegan options.
Great place for Thai food. The owner Vincent was really nice and accommodating. We enjoyed ourselves and will be back.
Casual atmosphere with very good Thai food. Definitely worth returning to.
The food is fresh. I always get the spring rolls and the summer rolls.
The server was rushing us to order and dint even give 5-10 mins of time.
And the food, especially the curry (we got a Red curry) which smelled too bad and when asked about it, she just said that it's like that only and left the table.
Don't ever go here.
Greeted with a smile. Everyone was very polite. The waiter was very patient and answered my questions. A little pricey but wont let that keep me from coming back. Great quiet atmosphere, wonderful staff, and amazing food. Will definitely eat here again.
Great experience..very clean. Lovely ambiance. Great service.. priced very well.
Best Thai food I’ve had, can’t find a place like this in the east coast
Just perfect. Food was great. Service was fantastic. We hadn’t dined in in a few years, and we were so happy we decided to go back for dinner.
Wonderful place to eat. Food is good. Service was great also.
Thai red curry with coconut milk, chicken, bamboo shoots, and basil was excellent! ($13.50) Service was excellent and fast! Portion appeared small, but I was full when I finished it. Prices were reasonable. White rice was an extra $3. Not included with the red curry dish. Simple, no frills, small restaurant. Perfect for my lunch. I would go again.
Great service and delicious food! Tapioca dessert was amazing!
My favorite Thai food restaurant.
Went for early lunch. Good tasty food, reasonably priced, and very friendly service.
Every time we come to Oahu we come here. We always order the Masaman curry - it’s really great! We have had the calamari too as appetizer and it’s pretty good too.
タイ本場の味とは少し違うが、とても美味しいです。
辛さは少し控えめ。
Tast is really good.
They charged 40% for tip.
So I asked to them why you guys charged 40% ?
They told me they thought japanese tourist.
I can't belived it.
I'll never come back.
Please Japanese tourist don't go this restran.
Best Thai food on Oahu. Shrimp Tom yum is a must try
Delicious Thai food. The green curry was very creamy and tasty however I thought rather small portion compared to other Thai restaurants I've been to. I liked the pineapple fried rice served in an actual pineapple. The spring rolls were good but again serving size a little on smaller size. Best of all was the Tum Yum seafood soup, so delicious with lots of different seafood meat. For dessert, the mango sticky rice is a must have!
I had no idea they’ve been open for decades! Amazing food & service! Pineapple fried rice is to die for & if you eat in the restaurant it’s served inside a pineapple!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
If you are vegetarian avoid this place their menu looks too tempting to visit as i saw too many vegetarian options but sadly the food we ordered was sub par hasty food. for first time had to question staff if they forgot to put soy sauce or salt in royal coconut soup(nothing royal abt it) as it tasted like flavorless broth served in haste, rest of the vegetarian dishes were equal disappointment, ive never seen 3 classic thai dishes like green papaya salad ,tom kha gai and green curry cud be so sub par and tasteless
Very good Chiang Mai style Thai food for Oahu
Great Thai cuisine with substantial portions, helpful staff, and reasonable prices. And, it's only a mile from Waikiki! Try their version of a Mai Tai.
Great Thai spot. Consistently delicious and very friendly staff.
Was craving pad Thai but we got pad kee Mao, flat noodles with veggies and chicken. Medium spice was really light to me.
Ong Choi with beef had lots of other veggies too, beef little tough.

Love the unique seats on tables by windows.
Parking can be tricky but park by meters if u don't trust how others park.
Food was delicious, service was amazing. Cannot recommend it more.
A robust menu and consistently good food. The portions are generous for the price and time estimates for takeout are on time. Order “very spicy” if you do want spicy! 🔥
Legit great service, spice options on point, and a menu that's got something for everyone. A regular dining option if there's ever been one.
After days and nights of eating in tourist traps, Chiang Mai wad the closest to home food we got. We had a reservation though it wasn't busy when we arrived at 6 PM. We were greeted and seated promptly. I knew what to order already from reading their reviews. The food came in the exact order we had hoped for. The Larb Salad first, followed by the Tom Yum Soup, then the Entrees, and finally topped it off with Sticky Rice and Mango. We devoured everything!
I would highly recommend Chiang Mai and will certainly be back. My kids said Island Vintage for breakfast and Chiang Mai for dinner.
Thank You to Everyone at Chiang Mai!
The best damn Thai food I’ve had in decades. Just simply outstanding.
Loved it, red curry sauce was very good, beef was well cooked and tender enough to be cut with chop sticks. Noodles, rice etc were delicious.
Great food and ambiance. The workers were also very welcoming!
I have driven past Chiang Mai for decades, but have never eaten there. No idea why, but I just have never gone there. I went there for dinner tonight and the restaurant was clean and spacious. There was more than ample space between diners! Hand sanitizer was present at each table, and a temp check machine as you entered the restaurant. HOWEVER, I was not asked for my Vax card. I think it was an oversight, as I saw others being asked for their card and ID.
Now, onto the food! The soft rolls (summer rolls) wer fantastic! It is very simple, but it tasted great to me. The peanut sauce was good, too, but I wish it was thicker. Tom yum soup and yellow curry were very tasty. Dinner was topped off with the fried banana dessert.
I will be back, and regret not coming here earlier!
GREAT FOOD 👍
Good food and reasonable prices!
I was a regular here in the 90s before moving out. Still tastes good. They still have the unique triangular seat cushions.
All the food we ordered taste very bland. Some we only took one bite and couldn't continue. That is how bad it taste. We ordered the fried calamari, spring roll, beef laab salad, Chiang Mai Casserole, chicken pineapple curry, and pineapple fry rice. I have never rated any restaurant with 1 star. This is my first.
The only positive thing about our experience was the dessert. We bought the fried ice cream, tapioca with banana, and mango sticky rice. The fried ice cream was good. The mango sticky rice was a major disappointment. The mango already passed it's prime. Was starting to go bad. The sticky rice was hard. And tapioca was okay. Just sweet, nothing stood out.
I do not recommend this place. Not sure why they have such a high rating. Save your money and time.
Had the seafood combo Tom Yum- the broth was super fragrant and we'll spiced. Service was quick and friendly as well!
First time ordering food from here. Authentic. We did take out food was still hot when we got to our room.
I absolutely love this place. They can get very busy when they first open so a reservation wouldn’t hurt. Food is excellent! I highly recommend any of their curries, the stuffed chicken wings and of course the pad Thai with chicken. Service is awesome and dining atmosphere is very relaxing 😌
Very good Thai food with a good Vegetarian selection. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant was clean. Excellent Mango Rice for dessert!
Excellent food, but even better service!!
Beyond phenomenal food and fantastic service
I've only been once now but this place has moved up on my list to the best Thai on Oahu. The service was excellent, the food was amazing and even though it looks pretty run down from the outside, was very clean inside. I hope to go again soon and try some more dishes.
Great service, food and easy to park.
Green curry with Spring rolls !! Cool little spot that will not disappoint. Make sure you drop by and try them out.
This was food was amazing!! I ordered the fried pineapple rice and yellow chicken curry. It was excellent!
Welcome relief from the tourist district restaurants.
맛있는 타이 음식점
This is really head and shoulders above all the moderately priced thai resturants I have been to in the general area from University Ave to kalihi. For true foodies the balance of flavors is just perfect. There is good and then there is close your eyes while they roll back into your head good. Chiang Mai never fails to make my heart sing. I do not know if pandemic restrictions cost them a chef. I had one take out meal from them during the past year and it was not up to their normal standard. I did not order again .
Great service! Ono food! Owner Vincent is just an awesome human being! Just like the rest of the staff! Enjoy ppl!
Went there several nights ago. We were super excited. We opened the door and the cook and one other employee were coughing. Employees weren’t wearing masks. We left.
Edit: there’s a pandemic on. This restaurant isn’t Covid-safe.
Great food and service!
A great place for Thai food. Atmosphere is wonderful and the food is awesome. Quick service and friendly people.
Chang Mai has been a favorite for nearly two decades. Stuffed chicken wings, crispy spring rolls, grilled eggplant salad, green curry, massamun curry, pad thai, pad siew, any of their soups and salads, sooooo good! The flavors and textures are always well-balanced. 10 or so stalls for parking behind the restaurant, ample street parking. Staff is always so friendly and attentive. Ambiance is great. Dress up or down, enjoy Chiang Mai restaurant anytime!
If I didn't know I was in Honolulu, I would think I was eating at a nice restaurant in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Great food and service.
Everything here is so good. They offer dine in and take out safely.
This is really authentic Thai place, well beyond our expectation. Ask any your favorite. They will try the best. We ordered pork stuffed fried chicken wing that is true five stars. We asked dranken noodle and laap, both not on the menu but they made them for us. Very clean, manu on your device with QC code reader, well isolated dine in tables. Thier heavy cotton seat mat with low height back is super confy. Price is surprisingly reasonable, less than $20 per person including decent tip. Even my college boy would come back with friends.
We got take out and I got the vegetarian Royal Tofu Soup in Coconut Milk. Very disappointing. The tofu is sour, the soup broth tastes basically of nothing, certainly no lemon grass or ginger. The vegetables are tough ends of celery stalks, the tough white ends of some leafy green vegetable with no leafy green part...there's a few bits of carrot, some canned mushrooms... Whoever made this soup did not care, and did not make any effort to make it tasty or have any nice things to eat in it. What a waste of time and money. I'm throwing it all away.
Delicious!
Always excellent Dining experience at Chiang Mai friendly and professional Service
Awesome food.... Awesome service..... Very clean...... And very safe during this Pandemic!
Thai food was bomb. That Yellow coconut curry? Mmmm 🤤 all I gotta say to that. We were also in and out of there in 20 min. Food came pretty much right away. Check came right as we finished. Thinking of moving to Thailand now.
Great taste with reasonable price, i love the pat se yu and the pad thai very yummi
Very tasty Thai food in a nicely decorated restaurant. Offers a good variety of appetizers, sides, soups, curries, etc. Reasonable prices.
Portions were small and one of the waitresses was SO RUDE AND IMPATIENT. Maybe she was having a bad day... it happens to everyone. I’ll have to go by again and give them a second shot.
Awesome food & really funny/kind waiter! Thank you!
Loved this place! I will be coming here weekly from now on.
Food was good, timely and service was awesome
Good Thai food. Little boring but stuffed chicken wings were excellent.
This is a lovely Thai restaurant located in a very easy to see building on South King St. in Mo'ili'ili area, near the University of Hawaii. It is has pleasant décor with Thai influences that really get you into the feel of the place and matches the food.
Very good assortment of Thai classics and a large vegetarian selections for those that are on a plant based diet. Everything comes beautifully plated when served. The service is also excellent there. Everyone is smiling and greet you upon entry. Their is constant attention to service there and it seems very sincere .
Although being a meat eater, I was in an extra healthy mode the day I went and ordered the Chiang Mai's Evil Tofu with brown Thai rice. It was excellent. Didn't even miss not having meat at all. The dish was perfectly cooked and exploding with flavor. I really appreciated that when I requested the spice level to be "Thai Hot" that they actually did it. Most places still back off on the spice when they see someone that is Caucasian.
This is a great place for a date or a small group. It has a really good feel to the place and plan to go back again. I do recommend trying this place if you are in the area.
It was ok
Great service. Food on very greasy side.
Best thai I've found on the island. Their veggie curry has the most diversity of ingredients around, which I value and definitely brings a lot to the dish. They pride themselves on their sticky rice for good reason! Also the best pad thai around, it's way more complex and rich in flavor than what other places dish out.
This has been my favorite Thai restaurant for the past twenty or so years. Always come here when I visit home.
delicious
Still one of my faves! Consistently good food at reasonable prices.
Wait staff are friendly, helpful and attentive!! The food was delicious👍 Took a friend from the Big Island, she LOVED the atmosphere, the staff and most importantly the FOOD. She had never tried sticky rice, thai iced tea, or the sticky rice mango dessert. BIG HIT!!
Excellent food & svc made for a great time among old friends. Parking in the back is free. Metered parking in the front from 6:30pm. Don't park @ the library.
Everything here was amazing. We ordered the summer rolls, the ginger whole fish, papaya salad, the shrimp soup and curry. Will be coming here more often now that I know how good this place is. So unassuming from the outside.
