I’ve been going to Kontiki for years now because the food is delicious, the vibes are fun, and the service is outstanding! Their best bar tender/server Tan is incredibly sweet, attentive and treats me like family! I highly recommend this place for a fun date night or good time celebrating with friends in Wellington!

Every time was a great experience. I have never had such great quality Sushi and sashimi, along with other food items (huge selection). All fresh ingredients. Beautiful and creative dishes. I am a big food critic. They get a 10/10.
The atmosphere is magnificent. It's definitely a hidden gem! You wouldn't be disappointed.

Came here on my birthday while on vacation. I haven’t had such amazing sushi in over three years where I live. I was in heaven. The food and atmosphere was great. Our waitress Morning was adorable and on top of her game. My husband got the Osso Bucco it was so tender and he was very happy with his meal. We got the pad Thai and shrimp fried rice to share. My kids and I got the sushi and like I already said. It was absolutely amazing! I didn’t want it to end. The fish was fresh and buttery, the rolls weren’t shoved full of rice like many places. Superb! Thank you for making my birthday memorable.

Just ate here for the first time in years and thought I’d leave an updated review. Just like last time I was here, all the food was delicious and I have no complaints in that regard. Seriously some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. I don’t drink, but all my friends who had drinks had no complaints (other than pricing but I’ll get to that).

The atmosphere here is also really nice. Every weekend they have a DJ and dance floor set up with music loudly playing. The bar is immaculate and the art on all the walls is eye catching. If you’re looking for something more quiet, you can eat outside where they have heat lamps set up if it gets chilly.

The service has slightly improved since I was last here. I remember complaining that it was slow for the price, and that’s only partially true now. Some dishes come fast while others seem to take almost an hour. For example, it took us only about 5 minutes to get the Kontiki Nachos (a must have appetizer) and about 30 minutes to get the Tuna Tower which we ordered when we got the nachos. I know I’m being picky but for how expensive everything is, I’m expecting everything to be top notch, including service.

That said, the pricing has gotten even worse. I understand that this is amazing food and you pay for what you get and inflation has been bad but almost $20 for a single hand roll just seems insane. The main dish signature rolls that are much bigger on the same menu cost less. I can go to other sushi places around and get that same hand roll for literally 6-7$ and it looks and tastes exactly the same.

Overall, this is a good place to go with friends (so long as everyone is willing to spend the money) and a great place to go with a date, as I noticed most people there were doing. Be wary of the service and pricing issues, and the food will ensure that your dinner here will be unforgettably tasty.

Cool place but check the bill. We were over charge by 2 drinks.. Told server but was very adamant about it so not gonna argue on busy Friday.

Such great food in a cozy atmosphere. We always sit at the bar, because Kelly always makes us feel at home. She has a great personality & is always professional. Love this place

Rolls are amazing 1 is enough!!! Oysters were fresh and delicious

Server took multiple phone breaks at the back of the dining room. No offers of drink refills. Miso black cod was tasty but mashed potatoes and spinach were generic. Crab Rangoon tasted frozen.

My husband and I topped by tonight by chance and was very impressed. Our server, Tan was fantastic! She was friendly and attentive. She recommended the Lobster Pad Thai - that was on special - and hands down the best we've ever had. Same for the Penang Curry - delicious! Crab Rangoons were hot and fresh, but left us with no room for dessert. Looking forward to our next visit. The menu is a bit on the higher end as far as pricing, but you get what you pay for and worth every penny.

LOVE Kontiki for dine in or take out. This place is very accommodating and staff extremely friendly and personable. When we do take out, they ALWAYS get the order right which is rare. We especially love the Mandarin Chicken Salad. One of the things we really like is that they never put the chicken on the salad but in a separate container so the salad doesn’t get soggy. They know what they’re doing. This is definitely one of our go to places and highly recommend.

I was there on 3/1/2024 and I got the nachos that had tuna on it. I had MAJOR food poisoning the following day from this food. I will never go back here. Be warned.

I ordered food to carry out and after I went home, they called saying that they forgot one meal. When I went back to pick it up they offered to remove the charge from my bill since it inconvenienced me. They ran a new charge reflecting the new reduced price. They actually did not process the discounted charge. They lied about comping me for the meal they forgot and they charged me the full price. I would have preferred that they just be honest about their charges but they chose to be deceitful. They have lost me as a customer. What a shame that they conduct themselves in such a dishonorable fashion.

The sub manager/waiter Tan (I don’t know the last name) is the worst waiter I've ever met she ruined the whole expirience with her mean and lazy attitude towards me and my family and specially towards her coworkers, the service was horrible and she disrespected all my companions. We had to ask other waiters for help because she didn’t even show up until her coworkers told her.

This place is honestly just so amazing! The menu has such a vast selection of food, and the portions are big and the food itself is incredible and such high quality! You can tell the staff works so hard and is so nice and kind and welcoming to every visitor! I am obsessed with the ambience and the atmosphere of the restaurant as well as it elevates your overall experience! The disco ball, the lighting, the fish tank, and decorations are all top notch and especially the DJ playing music just lifts the vibe so much. I brought all my friends here and I have never heard a complaint ever. If I could leave a negative I would - Ive never seen such a disgusting display of bigotry toward another servicer who not of Asian decent We were a party of 10 - and a few of us go there at least once a week throughout the year - they gave our party to a server who has been on the job for 3 days. I watched the other servers watch her struggle and not offer any help - I will not support this kind of establishment and seeing as this restaurant is normally very busy and was not I feel others have also witnessed these interactions. Tonight left such a bad taste in my mouth but I have complete empathy for the girl who was trying her best but this establishment set her up to fail is just unbelievable. There are better places to put your money.
Update - Ive learned that our waitress was later fired - this is a Resturant that should be shut down, if you don’t want to work with another ethnicity then don’t hire them and the manager should have been fired not the waitress

At 1st Glance was a bit overwhelmed by the prices however it was surprisingly good & very good portions! Highly recommend.

Overall bad experience and I didn't even eat in restaurant. No answer on the phone to order so I went in and waited at the bar. Told the bartender who took my order about my egg allergy and he said there was hardly anything with egg in the food, which is completely untrue between sauces and the imitation crab used in sushi. Menu was hard to read and I felt overcharged when I got the check. It wasn't very busy, only about 1/3 of the restaurant was full, but the staff seemed over busy and had little time to help. I asked for a menu to check the price and felt like the employee at the front was rude and unhelpful. Saying I should talk to the bartender who didn't seem to have time. I got home to find bits of other food on the ginger and the sides of my sushi as if it was cut with a dirty knife. Set aside any piece that looked like it had random sauce on it and hope I don't get sick, sad I had to waste the most expensive sushi I've ever order. I travel the country and have had sushi from Hawaii, FL, NY, NC etc. and this is hands down the worst, most expensive sushi, and it might end up making me sick at the end of it. Wish I read the reviews before I went, seems like the old reviews were under a different owner or something because I definitely didn't have a 5 star food experience here.

It may be a nice place to grab some drinks, but it is not a food place, besides server was so rude, and the food is not the best, starting with soy sauce, eel sauce and ponzu sauce didn’t taste good, which is weird.
Our food was ready in the kitchen window and our waitress was eating standing next to the sushi bar, this was my second time here, I didn’t like the first time and I went back yesterday to give them a second try but, oh surprise….

This place is an utter joke. I went for my birthday with some of my girlfriends. One of my friends ordered oysters Rockefeller and she got raw oysters 15 mins after everyone had already finish their appetizers. The oyster Rockefeller didn’t come out for a solid 20 minutes after coming out incorrectly. Her lychee martini came without any alcohol as well. My friends daughter ordered coconut shrimp and fried rice. Her coconut shrimp came out fine but when it came time for entrees, her fried rice didn’t even make it to the table. When we pointed it out to the waitress, she immediately said “oh ok I make you chicken teriyaki really fast.” We only asked for the fried rice that we initially requested. Our waitress pretended to understand and Low and behold, she brought out chicken teriyaki 10 minutes later 🤦🏼‍♀️. I ordered a spicy tuna roll and it was not spicy AT ALL. The waitress offered to give me a side of jalapeño and I requested the spicy mayo. She looked confused so I let it go and said, “Nevermind.” Another friend of mine did not get the sushi roll that she ordered. Another friend of mine ordered a To go order for her husband. She ordered a spicy tuna roll and asked that they make sure it is spicy since mine obviously wasn’t. They put jalapeño on the side and charged her for it 🤦🏼‍♀️. When we asked to speak to a manager to express ALL of our concerns, she sent over another waitress who offered a free desert. She made the excuse that they were short staffed for the evening. I declined this offer because I’m sure whatever dessert I would have ordered would have come out wrong and it was my birthday so a complimentary desert is typically standard anyway. This was by far the worst dinning experience I’ve ever had and sadly it was on my birthday and nothing was done to resolve the many inconveniences of the evening. I would strongly advise against this place as there are many other sushi restaurants in the area that are way better. Not a single one of us had and order without error. That’s just sad.

First time there and likely our last. Wanted a nice night out and to treat ourselves to a good dinner. I ordered the 14 oz ribeye medium rare, waiting over 45 minutes only to have the steak come out well done. The steak was dry, tough, and the most prominent flavor was the char from the grill.

My thoughts... Don't charge $45 for a steak if the cooks don't know how to cook it. Overall, disappointing $100 dinner for 2.

The pepper garlic stir fry needed more dark sauce it was so plain sauce get rid of the carrots instead use straw mushrooms and add peppers get rid of the cashews add nam pa pow sauce to the dish

Worst sushi I ever had! So small, the rice was falling apart, salty, almost nothing inside, the soy sauce was a cheap one that tasted terrible, poor presentation and they didn’t follow the protocols to avoid cross contamination since I am allergic to shellfish, I’m always very specific with my orders making sure it doesn’t contain any of those ingredients and I had a reaction at the very first bite. So if you are allergic to shellfish stay away from this local, they don’t follow the protocols and you can end up in the hospital because of their negligence. Also I forgot to mention how overpriced the food is.

The seafood volcano roll was so fresh and delicious.

such a cool hip place for a small town like Wellington. The menu is so eclectic that I have been there 10 times and never gotten the same thing. The bar scene is surprisingly happening there too!

I like and don’t like Kontiki. They’ve got one amazing and fresh Caesar salad that I love. There are other things we enjoy. However, twice I’ve ordered the garlic steamed clams. Wish I’d recalled the second time around why they’re just HORRIBLE. I’m not sure if they’re overcooked or what but the clam looks torn apart VS gently steamed open. I’ve eaten beautiful plump steamed clams and these are so far from that. It leads me to believe they’re taking the less fresh clams which they can’t serve on the 1/2 shell and saving them for this dish. Or cooking dead clams that need to be pried open. The garlic is way too heavy so even if the clam was ‘off’ you might not notice and they’re doused with mass quantities of some kind of cheese. Cheese and clams never go together. Bottom line: avoid the ‘steamed’ clams. Just don’t order them. You’ll regret it.

Not my favorite Thai place. I didn’t like the taste of my sushi, but I’m not sure if it’s just because I ordered something different that’s just not my style. My husband liked his massaman curry, but again it wasn’t for me (& I typically like curry & sushi).
The waiters definitely seemed short-staffed. They were nice enough, but service wasn’t great.

Hi, first of all this was our first time here, first off the waiter was very rude, rushing us out the door and we were here at 1020 at night. Ordered drinks and appetizer. Food was good.. but drinks were made by a blonde girl that did not want to make the drinks. Had to reorder a Second time. Then spoke with manager and she would not assist with her bad attitude. Will come back. Staff need to change thier attitude if they want a good tip!!!

The food here is always great but the service does not even come close. Last night we were ignored by the service staff for 10 minutes. One waiter passed us several times and refused to make eye contact. The service staff have always been weak at best here.

All the food is good. It is the perfect place to take a family who likes different food. Normally I would not frequent a place that has curry, steak, amazing lamb chops, pizza, sushi and fish. A friend of mine who has very good taste, goes to Kontiki very regularly and so, on a Saturday night, I decided that I should go and explore why.
I was fascinated by the large saltwater aquarium that was the centerpiece of the main dining area but also by the unique and varied decor. There were ornate golden statues of fish and beautiful Asian ladies in their traditional long silken robes and ornate fans but there were also other nice pieces of art that more represented a modern era.
There were large hanging lights that were beautifully painted with patterns and symbols of the orient and also beautiful faceted crystal chandeliers.
As I made my way around a packed dining room, hoping for a glimpse of my friend but with no success, I finally made my way to the bar and claimed the only remaining seat. As I was greeted by a friendly and pretty bartender she quickly took my drink order and handed me a menu.
I was delighted to see that the menu was as varied as the decor. There was a satisfying array of options from Asian delicacies to some Italian, American and ultimately a selection of clams and oysters. I was quickly discovering why the place was so popular with my friend. After some deliberation I settled on a lighter option of an arugula salad with roasted red peppers, artichokes and a flavorful balsamic dressing topped with slivers of fresh parmigian cheese.
As I savored my late dinner and a scotch I enjoyed pleasant conversations with others at the bar. Overall it was a nice, casual, active experience and I owe it to my friend Larry.

I have always wanted to try this place and now that I have DISAPPOINTING is all I can say. Lets start at the over priced menue items or ie not on the menue items to the chaotic hodge podge of things you can can get there from pizza, sushi, pasta, nachos, thai food and everything inbetween. It was highly disappointing (oh look that word again) all around and I will not be visiting this establishment again one and done I tell ya!!!! Side note I gave it 2 stars only because its close to my house so 2 stars for convenience!!!

4. Got bamboozled into paying $15 for tempura roll when menu said $8. When I asked the waitress about the price, she said "oh what you ordered is not on the menu" I showed her the menu she said what is on the menu is a hand roll...yet I was served what was not on the menu and charged double for it.

Last night my wife and I had a date; we went to dinner Suchi in Kontiki, generally very good attention; the music we liked a lot (alternative rock); it is a multicultural place as we saw in the menu. In terms of food options we found the prices reasonable, the attention of waitress Lauren very good and very kind. The decoration seemed a little overloaded but we imagine that being multicultural is the style they chose. We will return to continue trying the sushi and why not the other options of the menu.

This is the best place for a Friday night dinner and music place. The food is always good and the service is on point. Great place to come with friends.

Great place

Unfortunately this place used to be a Wellington staple. Quality is horrible and prices have gone up. I'm not one to ever complain about price if quality is there but our oysters were not fresh and sushi as well. Sad to see this place went downhill so badly. Gave it a few tries the last few months but will not be returning.

I would give the food 5 stars, but the ambiance 3. Menu has something for everyone, but a bit pricey. We ordered the Kontiki nachos, goat cheese marinara, and quesadilla. I recommend all three of them. The pad thai was customized perfectly, and the clams were on point. Everything that we ordered was delicious. The major drawback was the DJ began to increase the volume as more people were dancing. The music became so loud that we had to move our seats in the middle of eating. The volume was too loud to enjoy listening.

Great Service and an amazing menu to pick from. I definitely recommend this place such a great vibe, music and awesome sushi rolls.

I had been to Kontiki several times but unfortunately each time I come, I am more disappointed. The service has become cocky and the food is fair at best.
Panda Express has better crab rangoons, which today smelled like old fish. Our meals were average without the wow factor. The waitress was nice initially, but then when I tried to use a coupon, she became rude; stating that management does not recognize coupons, and it had to be another restaurant despite clearly their name and address being listed on the coupon. She stated that this is a reoccurring complaint, giving us the demeaning looks and rolling her eyes.
The way she handled it was inappropriate, made me feel cheap, despite paying over $140 for the meals. Usually I tip to the max, today she got zero.
This restaurant is expensive and people who usually eat here don't have financial problems; I do not need to use coupons either, but we were given this coupon for the restaurant. Previously when I was there I was waiting for over 1 hour to be served; with only a half a full restaurant. I will not be back!
There are much better Thai restaurants within 10 mile radius. I highly recommend to skip this restaurant.

Eclectic menu from Shepard's Pie to Sushi. Food is great. Service can be a little slow. Don't order uncommon cocktails.

Expensive with average flavors.

This place is one of my favorite, "I'm hungry let's go out to dinner places." They have a menu of many options, and the service is always great. The other patrons that attend are always nice too! I've had the sushi and not been disappointed, my husband has had multiple things off the menu and never a complaint. The atmosphere is chill or there's a DJ playing music. If you haven't been here, at least try it once.

Went in on happy hour bar staff right on time with drinks and 2 for 1 The owner came around and talked with everyone, for two persons and there w /beer and. Wine plus food the price was very reasonable. Will recommend this restraunt all the time, awesome time thanks , Robert. Thanks Sue
