Thai Chef Street Food specializes in Bangkok style street food and Thai ingredient inspired cocktails. We also have classic dishes like pad Thai and Panang curry but the highlights are under “Bangkok street food” and “Street Bites” sections! Some of our most popular dishes are Crying Tiger Steak, Catfish Dry Curry, Poh Tak Seafood, and Beef Noodle Soup.
Our bar serves unique handcrafted cocktails using Thai ingredients and spices. Cheers!🍹
My first visit to Thai Chef Street Food was a fantastic experience! I ordered the crab fried rice, and it did not disappoint. The flavors were vibrant and well-balanced, with just the right amount of seasoning, and the fresh crab added a delicious richness. The portion size was generous—perfect for a satisfying meal without being overwhelming. The atmosphere had a nice street-food vibe, adding to the authenticity of the experience. I can’t wait to return and explore more of the menu. Highly recommend for anyone craving great Thai food!
I recently dined at Thai Chef Street Food in Washington D.C., and it was a delightful experience. The interior was beautifully designed and cozy, creating a warm atmosphere perfect for enjoying a meal. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, adding to the welcoming vibe.
I tried the chicken satay and the Dilunken noodles with beef, chicken, and shrimp. Both dishes were delicious and packed with flavor. Best of all, the prices were very reasonable, making it a great value for the quality of food.
I truly loved the ambiance and the amazing flavors, and I highly recommend everyone to give it a try. If I find myself in Washington again, I will definitely return!
Amazing restaurant! The food, service, and atmosphere was phenomenal! I’ve been to many Thai restaurants, and I can tell you that Thai Chef Street Food is an authentic, must try place to eat Thai food. I recommend the Shrimp Bikini, the D.U.I. (Drunken Noodles), the Clay Pot Noodles, and the Crab Fried Rice.
♿ 🛑 Non-accessible building. Several inch step to enter front door. Tight squeeze for tables (all low tops, most with movable chairs). Would be very difficult to navigate space with any sort of accessibility tool (cane/crutches)
Staff was very friendly and professional. Staff said they were able to make a bunch of accommodations for the food upon request.
Good food, grabbed a quick lunch there. Approachable menu. I was craving Pad Thai and stopped in before an appointment. It was alright. I got shrimp with it, the shrimp was flavorless and a little over cooked.
Chive cakes were so delightful. I've never had something like them before. Sweet, savory, tangy, crispy,

Overall Experience, 3.75/5: I’d come back, maybe for takeout. Overall, it was a good experience, though I preferred the food over the drinks. It’s not a place I’d go out of my way for
Food/Drink, 3.6/5: It was above average, but not the best. We tried the wings, chive cake, pad see ew, and basil fried rice.
Pricing, 3.5/5: It was decent and not too pricey for DC. The portion sizes were fair for the price.
Service, 1.75/5: The service started off well, but once it got busy, we felt a bit forgotten. There was a woman and a teenage boy working; the woman seemed to be handling most of the workload, while the boy appeared disinterested and unengaged.
Aesthetic/Atmosphere, 4/5: The decor was great, featuring plenty of Thai-inspired elements. Once inside, it didn’t feel like we were in DC anymore.
Had a great meal at Thai Chef! The catfish dry curry was definitely the standout—super flavorful with just the right amount of spice. We also tried the basil fried rice, which was okay, and the shrimp bikini appetizer was a perfectly crisp and delicious starter. The cool decor inside added to the whole experience. Worth a visit!
This restaurant has a warm and inviting atmosphere, filled with vibrant colors that instantly uplift your mood.
The delicious Thai street food we ordered brought back memories of traveling to Thailand, especially when savoring clay pot noodles, drunken noodles, basil chicken, and crab-fried rice. Each bite was a comforting reminder of the wonderful moments I experienced as if the essence of Thailand was lovingly woven into every dish. It's amazing how food can evoke such powerful feelings and memories.
I genuinely loved everything and can't wait to return to explore even more of their delightful offerings when I find myself in the area again.
Food and drinks are good. Service is hit or miss
Meh. I would not say this place is good. I got drunken noodles. Certainly an excellent amount of spice. And that’s it. Way too many noodles and hardly any meat or veggies. Also served on a bed of lettuce which was soooooo gross! Maybe try something else??
The food was mediocre, disappointing. Very basic, little flavor, dry.
My favorite Thai place in DC!!! The decor is absolutely gorgeous and the food is amazing. Highly recommend happy hour and the DUI!!
Fantastic food. The best wonton soup.

My first take out experience here and I have no complains. Pickup was ready in 15 minutes (placed order at 3.30 pm) and everything was hot & freshly prepared (BKK Wings). Parking is impossible on this street so call ahead to know your pickup is ready as you will need to double park and dash in. I thought the Kapow could have been darker and spicier but the taste was as good as having this dish in BKK. Curry was good, and the Noodles portions was good for 2. Love this place for simple Thai Street Food.
게살볶음밥 외 한국사람에게는 음식이 매우 달아요. 특히 팟타이 먹고 당황했네요. 사람들 친절하고 분위기도 캐주얼한데 단맛이 강한게 흠입니다.
I liked the decor, simple and colourful. I'd been in Bangkok a few days earlier, so it's not fair to compare the food, although it was good. I've been going to the US for 20+ years and still don't like the 20% service charge. Nice place thought with authentic Thai street food
If you are hungry, you can have an acceptable meal here. But if you’re choosing where to go, I wouldn’t come here. Food is just not that good and there’s so many other good restaurants in Dupont. No issue with service or portion sizes, it’s just pretty meh
Cute little Thai place.
The food was exactly "fine". I haven't eaten here in about 15 years, since moving away. I remember why I didn't come here often when I lived here.
I ordered "The D.U.I." (aka drunken noodles / pad kee mao). The noodles were far too soft, the flavor was lacking, the bell peppers mushy. Mid way through eating this i find myself asking "What's the point in finishing this? I'm not enjoying it."
They charge 30% gratuity on all orders. Stay away!
Kind of sweet on most of the dishes.
I used to have dinner here last year, but the taste is different from then.
However, the worst thing is the service.
One of the service lady seems angry and unwelcome our group during busy time.
Actually we called to restaurant, but they dont accept the reservation for less than 6 people (we have a party of five and one kid). The price isn’t fair when compared to the experience we got.

Very good place to drop in

Good Thai good you’d expect.
These Pork Strips from Thai Chef Street Food are amazing!!
¡Estas tiras de cerdo de Thai Chef Street Food son increíbles!
They actually had kapow with a nice runny egg. It was amazing.
The staff is great. The atmosphere is great,
The food was good. I like my pad Thai not sweet and theirs was somewhat sweet. For
Came here for my first time while visiting DC. The crab fried rice was so delicious and a glass of wine is cheap and tasty! The place is uniquely decorated and the staff is super friendly. Service was a little slow but it was a busy night and I'd recommend eating here! So delicious.
Comida y espacio muy bueno, una cena exquisita! Para recomendarlo!
I loved this place. I was a single diner and sat at the bar. The chicken satay starter, chicken penang curry and rice were outstanding and full of flavour. The service was great and the staff friendly. The beer was good too!
A really exceptional Thai dining experience. As the name suggests, Thai Chef Street Food focuses on traditional street food, making it a great place for small shared plates. On my several visits, the food has always been fresh, delicious, and worth the price. The decor and atmosphere are also fun. Only downside is that service can sometimes be slow - during my last visit the waiter did not return for probably 10-15 mins after we weren't quite ready to order the first time.
Food is super tasty and the vibe is very cool. Had the duck noodle soup and cucumber salad and both were great. Will definitely be back to try more dishes.
This place has fantastic Thai food. The menu is diverse and accessible and they'll modify the heat level to your tastes.

The food is AMAZING! Loved it and everything was perfect! I came with a large group of 11 people and we were very cared for and the food had a good quantity and quality! Also, there was no cross-contamination of the food for peanuts which I really appreciate! I would come here again!
Best pad Thai but be careful ! Double tipping ! Additional gratuity ! Don't be fooled.
Bester Thai ever!! Super nette Bedienung und das Essen ist unbeschreiblich lecker
Papaya salad, very good and spicy. Crab fried rice had a large amount of crab. Moo ping perfectly grilled and tender. Tom yum was good with the right amount of sourness.
AMAZING!!! I was blown 💨 away by the service. We had a group of ~10 so we ordered a whole lot of different dishes 🍽️ and did family style. I'm not kidding when I say we got our food 🍜 in less than FIVE minutes!!! On top of that, the flavors were brilliant and I just couldn't stop eating. So, so, so worth it if you're in the area!!
Some of the BEST Thai food in the DC Metro area!
Massaman Curry was sooooo good! Best we’ve found in DMV!
We normally get the Ka Pao, but then also saw the Southerners Comfort so ordered both. They ended up looking almost exactly the same but the FLAVORS of the Southerners Comfort were WOW! You could really taste the lemongrass! Will definitely be back!
Got crabmeat fried rice, southern comfort and pad thai, all V good for a quick thai! Service was fast and attentive! Would recommend!
Great food, great service and great vibe. Will definitely be back.
Walking into Thai Chef Street Food feels like stepping into a bustling corner of Bangkok right in the heart of Dupont Circle. From the moment we arrived, the place was alive with energy—packed tables, the sound of sizzling woks, and the constant flow of takeout orders whisking by. Despite the rush, the staff was welcoming, and we quickly found ourselves seated, taking in the colorful, vibrant atmosphere.
I decided to go for the green curry after reading rave reviews, and it did not disappoint. The curry had the perfect balance of spice and creaminess, warming me from the inside out. It’s one of those dishes you savor with every bite, and honestly, I wasn’t surprised when I saw people around me ordering it as well—it’s a definite crowd-pleaser. The portions were generous too, leaving me full and satisfied without feeling overly stuffed.
The cocktails here are an experience of their own. Not only are they crafted with care, but they also come out looking like little pieces of art. I couldn’t resist snapping a few pictures before taking a sip! The flavors were bold and well-paired with the meal, adding to the overall experience.
If you're a fan of street food, this is the spot for you. The menu is packed with Bangkok-style street eats, perfect for anyone wanting an authentic taste of Thailand. They even have plenty of gluten-free and vegan options, so there’s something for everyone.
Yes, it gets noisy, and the tables are close together, making it hard to hear at times. But honestly, that’s part of the charm. It feels like a lively street market where the noise just adds to the authenticity. And even though the place was packed, the wait for food was totally reasonable. It’s clear they’ve mastered the balance between quick service and quality food.
After such a satisfying meal, I’m already planning my next visit. And for those nights when I want to keep the flavors flowing at home, I’ll be hitting up Pull Up DC to snag some of their fresh flowers to wind down with. If you're in Dupont Circle, Thai Chef Street Food is a must-visit—just be sure to bring your appetite!
I and my friends we went to Thai Chef restaurant yesterday. One of my friend who wheelchair user could not come inside. We asked ramp bridge for our friend. Staff brought it for us. However, my friend (wheelchair user) still cannot come inside because the door is narrow. Staff was annoyed and showed dissatisfaction on her face. My friend (wheelchair user) decided to order food to take home.
I think at least our friend should receive good service more than this situation.
This restaurant is not friendly for wheelchair user (both place and service)
Excellent food with several options. Menu had several gluten free and vegan options.

wating long time ,,food not ready
The atmosphere is excellent, feeling like you're eating at a home rather than a restaraunt. Their catfish dry curry is to die for, and I rarely make it through DC without stopping her at least once. Service during peak hours can be slow and meals do not arrive at the same time when this happens.
Ordered food and delivery order was completely wrong. Ordered 2 chicken pad Thai and 2 orders of spring rolls. Received a single spring roll. Called to sort it out with restaurant. Was hung up on twice. First time, the guy told me my food was available but they didn’t have an in house delivery driver. I offered to pick it up but would like to be compensated someway (a dessert or something since I wasn’t going to decrease the delivery driver’s tip). I was told no and he hung up. The second time, a woman answered immediately. After I explained what was going on, she acted like she couldn’t hear me and hung up. The first guy was in the background and told her to hang up on me.
Great food, fun and vibrant decor, and reasonable price. Can’t argue with that. Great spot for date night!
Had a great meal at Thai Chef! The catfish dry curry was definitely the standout—super flavorful with just the right amount of spice. If you're in Dupont and want Thai, just go to SAMPANNEE
really disappointed with this place,, food was poor (even the items with the "recommended" symbol next to them, service even worse (took 1.5 hours for 2 entrees only). Wings were basically just covered with ketchup.
Great flavors and food selection on menu. Fun decoration and cute seating. Staff was efficient and very nice. Recommend!
Super fast service. Great food.
Discovered this spot with a conference dinner group- great, amazing service, and the food was so good! The table had a combination of the DUI (beef drunken noodles), hot pot, tom ka, spring roles, Thai iced tea, and coconut water. All was delicious, and we were served so fast.
The whole family is pleased even the picky daughter☺️
I came here during lunch while I was at a convention. The service was fast and my food came out in less than 10 minutes. Also the restaurant is beautiful on the inside
Great food, appetizers are on the large side. The drinks are great. Highly recommend the dumplings and pork skewers! Fairly priced for DC. Definitely a hidden gem in DuPont
Had the pleasure of dining here this evening. Overall it was really good, authentic and fast served. I ordered the chef dumplings & pad si yu with chicken. Both were flavorful and spot on with my taste buds. The atmosphere has a really cool design, A great place to try during my short business trip. Would recommend!
First let me say that I love this place! I gave it 3 stars because out of the maybe 5-6 times that I’ve visited this restaurant, I have always gotten excellent service as well as food. My experience this time was a little different. I came in Monday July 1 around 530pm. My partner and I ordered the BKK wings, spring rolls, shrimp bikini and crab fried rice. As you can tell, we were hungry! Everything came out pretty quickly. We did have a small issue where we did not realize the crab fried rice had egg in it, so when it was brought to the table we immediately had it sent back requesting it with no egg. After that the energy shifted. The servers became short and one who came to clear our table tried to rush us out by taking all of our silverware, even though we were ordering more items. We finished our meal, tipped our server and left but they were very rude and seemed irritated at our mistake. Great food. Great atmosphere. But be ware of the servers if you have an issue with something. Or maybe if you’re just black.
The food was excellent and authentic. Small esrablishment but were able to easily seat our party of six. Would definitly recommend.
At the end of the day the food tastes great can’t deny and the price is reasonable. But the service honestly lacks. Typical of many restaurants in DC. They seat you drop a warm glass of water and walk away as you’re talking to them and asking for ice. Then brought my meal and again put it on the table and walked away as I was asking for something. SLOW DOWN. LISTEN and wait 10 seconds after you drop something on the customers table. Then come back and check on them once or twice before you drop the check. I had to ask for ice three times. They just weren’t paying attention. In too much of a rush to get the next person seated or their check delivered.
Best Thai Food I have ever had out of Thailand, nothing more to say.
Papaya Salad and Duck Curry were delicious.
Best pad see ew!! So delicious. Vibes r great. They get busy but that’s the life!
Nice relaxed place with great food and great service
Good service and excellent atmosphere. The decor is colorful, vibrant and funky.
I had pad Thai and mango sticky rice. Pad Thai was delicious albeit a bit too sweet. Mango sticky rice was also good but mango not very fresh.
The Moo-Ping pork skewers changed my life.
We came in and got seated. Somebody came to get our order right the second we sat down. No problem. We ordered the chive pancakes. Then nobody came and got our order for dinner. We had to flag somebody down. Service was horrifying. Then when it was time to pay. My husband got the bill. The bill was $47. He left $50 because the service was so bad. Then the waiter comes back to us saying we didn’t give tip. And my husband said it said it was a suggestion and not mandatory and that the service was terrible. He insisted on us giving a tip and would not let us leave. The experience was horrible. You come out and haggle people for a tip? Maybe the 5 employees you have sitting around doing nothing should pay better attention to the customers and we would have loved to leave a tip.
Heads up the soup is just an appetizer. They have huge portions and lots of flavor. (I had the coconut soup and the pinapple fried rice dish) 10/10 will continue to go here often and maybe try the drinks!
I even never seen the service so terrible like this not even take care or come ask me not even one word don’t gave me a plate I have to use a napkin to be a plate don’t care at all I know you guys busy i’m work at the restaurant too but this is not how it is Would not be back again ever Have an attitude and not even say Thank You or say anything This is my first time with no tips I don't feel sorry at all
WORST service EVER!!!! The waitress was very RUDE and NASTY attitude!!!! Never coming back to this dump!!!
Cool atmosphere and good vegan options to try out too!
This place is a little gem! A friend recommended it while I was in town for a conference so I saddled up to the bar with a book and settled in for a great meal. They have unique cocktails (coconut rum + Thai tea? What’s not to love?!), solid appetizers and their green curry was delicious and reminded me on another great spot from when I lived in Dallas (the green curry has the perfect amount of heat, it’s deliciously spicy but not so much so that it’s painful to eat). I’d easily come back here again and recommend it to anyone!
The restaurant decor and vibe was great! But it was packed and only 2 servers. We ordered soup and salads for appetizers and waited over 25 mins to get our order served even people ordered after us already half way finished their meal. And the dishes were good but extremely spicy. We have to serve ourselves water.
Double tipping, very deceitful. Dined in for lunch on April 28, 2024. Food and service was good, although an automatic service charge of 20% was added to the bill which was not advertised anywhere in the restaurant, on the menu or on their website. Once the original bill including the 20% service charge was run, another receipt was provided which was the whole amount inclusive of the meal + service charge + tax with a suggested gratuity of an additional 18% on the AFTER TAX AND SERVICE CHARGE AMOUNT. This really left a bad taste in my mouth. I believe this is disgusting and deceitful. As we rushed for time we did not question the service charge.
Good food. Expected more from other reviews but it was good not great. Confused on the bill server could not explain if the surcharge was a tax or a tip. If it was tip the staff got a 40%tip. There are other restaurants within walking distance with better.
Great food with fun decor. Attentive service. Went on a Monday and while no wait, was busy
Friendly staff. Small limited seating area, though. Fast service.
Great Thai food at Dupont circle
Thai food is slowly but surely becoming my favorite cuisine and I'm on a mission to try it wherever I travel! This wonderfully colorful atmosphere gives you a warm hug as you gorge down Thai Tea and some fluffy D.U.I (drunken) noodles! Warning: they give you HUGE portions!! I ate it all anyways.. :-))
Wow, I just paid $100 for hands down, the worst thai food I have ever eaten. Now I don’t mind paying top dollar for good meals, and I understand DC is an exorbitantly expensive city. If you’re in DC eat anywhere but here.
Service was terrible I walked into the store at 2.45. ..there were plenty of empty tables but the lady waiter had us waiting for 25 minutes and the server kept doing unimportant things like chatting to waiter. We were seat at around 3.10 and then she walked around for another 15 minutes and finally brought me the menu at 3.30 after ignoring me for 25 minutes straight …the food finally got here, very average . But the service pissed me off more. Whoever was working at the time of this post basically. Very unwelcoming service by the lady
Came with a reservation for a large party, and I’d recommend making a reservation even for smaller parties as well.
This place is great. Food is delicious, with many different options for those with dietary restrictions or allergies. The decorations are brightly colored and eclectic. The service is decent. The pricing is fair. If you drink alcohol the cocktails are fun, and if you don’t they’ve got some delicious juices (that come in fancy cups garnished with mint) and the classic Thai tea. I love me some good Thai food and this place scratched that itch quite nicely.
The basil fried rice is EXTREMELY spicy. My lips are still burning 10 min later from just one bite. The pineapple fried rice isn’t spicy, but it’s really good. There is chicken in the pineapple rice, but you could probably ask for it without. I just picked it out. Amazing fresh limeade. Very fresh-feeling and doesn’t have an insane amount of sugar. A little sour, but it’s amazing. (Proportions here are HUGE fyi)
I wanted so much to love this place! I was expecting food that was bright and flavorful. What I got was bland with sweet sauce. The spring rolls were something I could've gotten in the frozen section of the grocery store. Nothing about it said Thai. The sticky tofu was just fried tofu with a watered down sweet chili sauce and chopped peanuts. This wasn't Thai Street food.
An absolute must-try!
I absolutely love this place!
The staffs are all really nice and helpful, and the food is always sooo delicious! Everything taste authentic and fresh. You can tell that the chef loves the food she cooks. I highly recommend the pork strips with sticky rice.
Will definitely eat here again. 💖
Excellent food!
Came here on a Friday night with my wife while visiting Washington DC. We ordered the DUI aka drunken noodles with shrimps and basil fried rice with chicken medium spicy. The food came out in 5 minutes, piping hot and delicious. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Highly recommended.
Coming for lunch it’s always a nice time. Service is quick and attentive. Great for lunch and a pretty extensive menu of flavours.
Shady way to take advantage from customer.
Be careful they try to double tip you. They put 20% tip by default then give you a paper with only number after tax and the default tip, then suggesting you to add gratuity on top of it.
And I am just by myself, not that I came with a group of 6 that sort of situation.
I cannot say enough about this place! The food and drinks are top notch; absolutely delicious for reasonable prices! The place is amazingly beautiful. The staff are all friendly and awesome. 10/10 Definitely would forever recommend this place! ⭐️
What a place, so lively and energetic takes to the streets of Thailand. Richa the bar tender was my go to person. She is one woman army, taking care of the bar, new guests, to gos, food for guests at the bar and much more. She is so energetic and speedy in her services, you would love to order more and more 😁. I had a lovely experience out here and was great having Ice Lemonade, Spring rolls and Veg DUI Noodles. Loved the vibe of the place. Will visit again when in DC. Thank you Richa
Favorite Thai restaurant! Their pork Dumplings are truly one of a kind.
Not too shabby, the portions were generous and it was a vibe.
Love the design of the restaurant.
Very noisy becouse have so many people, the food is nice - I ate in better place.
Very poor service.
They charge 20% gratitude with no asking .
So pay attention to your receipt.
This was my first time in the DC location after visiting the Rockville location (which was a lovely experience). Unfortunately, the service from the staff was disappointing. From what I saw from the other tables and my own we needed to call staff multiple times to ask for things whether it be a new drink or a water refill. The dishes themselves were excellent but my pad Thai arrived over 5 minutes after my partners dish. At that point my partners food had gotten cold from waiting for me to get my plate.
On Wednesday January 3rd, my boyfriend and 2 friends went for dinner around 7PM. We sat in the upstairs area because downstairs was packed. We were eating our dinner when we see a rat the size of a squirrel run across the HVAC pipes upstairs. We were so frightened and shocked at what we saw. The waiter came over and gave us a free meal however if the rat would’ve fell below, all hell would’ve broke lose in the restaurant. Management should have a pest control agency inspect the restaurant for any holes or entrances so that these rodents can’t make their way in to the restaurant.
If this issue is addressed I will be back. But I can’t dine with any rats or mice.
What an adorable gem. Love the decor, friendly staff, and reasonable prices. Tom Yum soup was delicious!
Very simple but tasteful selection of food. Our main choice was you pad thai is where I was interested to try it. It didnt dissapoint me, the flavors were amazing, spicy, sweet and savory and nutty all in one bite! I highly recommend.
Very nice looking restaurant. Take it easy on the oil on the fried rice. Will visit again though
Small joint w/ Cool vibes and great food!
Very unique interiors but the food is just fine.
Best Thai food I ever had, lovely drinks, nice staff. The Pad Thai was delicious
Super vibey and aesthetic Thai Restaurant with great food.
Amazing food! Awesome atmosphere. Will be returning
Fun little place for tasty Thai cuisine! Had the DUI Noodles a.k.a. Drunken Noodle, which was slightly different than I'm used to but so much flavor! Fried Vegetable Rolls were very good, and dipping sauce was sweet and spicy! Would definitely recommend...
