The Entrance is on 21th street
With its delicious food, friendly service, upbeat ambiance, and super convenient downtown location, Soi 38 has solidified its spot as one of my favorite Thai restaurants in DC.
Starting with their food -- Soi 38 is centered on Thai street food, so in addition to your classics (pad Thai, the various curries, etc.), they also have a couple of fun additions! Despite my excitement over the added variety, I opted for their Kuay Tiew Kee Mao (aka Drunken Noodles) because I was just really craving it that day...but I will absolutely be back to try out some of their other menu items! While this was the millionth drunken noodle I've tried, Soi 38 absolutely did not disappoint with the perfectly salty, sweet, and spicy sauce, and delightfully springy rice noodles. They included a generous portion of veggies and my protein of choice (seafood, which included several juicy shrimp, squid, and a few scallops). The overall dish was quite sizeable as well -- there was absolutely enough food for 2 meals (or a lil midnight snack after dinner). I also ordered their Lime Ginger Fizz, which was perfectly lime-y, ginger-y, and fizzy -- it wasn't too sweet, and it had a great tang from the ginger and bite from the lime. It was a great drink to cut through the heaviness of the noodles.
Beyond the food, the service was phenomenal. We walked in right around the dinner rush on a Friday evening, but the host was able to seat us pretty quickly despite how packed the restaurant was. Our server kindly and patiently explained the various menu items (even though we ended up being basic...), and everything was generally super pleasant, friendly, and efficient.
All in all, can't recommend Soi 38 enough! With great food, great service, and just an overall great vibe, you can't go wrong!
I recently had dinner at Soi 38, and it was very tasty. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the waiter was friendly. I enjoyed the pineapple fried rice, Kanom Jeep, and honey roasted duck, and for my drink, I had Thai iced tea. Everything about this amazing restaurant was wonderful. I would definitely eat here again.
When we visited this restaurant for dinner, we were promptly greeted and seated by attentive staff. The venue had a warm, relaxing vibe with some class. The food was delicious and nicely prepared/presented.
I definitely would recommend this place if you're in the mood for some great Thai cuisine.
Numerous Thai dishes were available on their menu, and it wasn't easy to choose on our last visit to this restaurant. Their Thai street-inspired dishes were prepared with masterful skills and tasted great. The service was good, and the ambiance was excellent. The interior of this restaurant was decorated with unique light fixtures and large murals for a stylish and distinctive dining experience.
I had both lunch AND dinner at the restaurant on the same day since I loved their foods. I have tried spring roll, som tum salad, pad thai, banana with fried roti and coconut ice cream, and green tea ice cream. They were all good, and my favorite was pad thai. I was too hungry and forgot to take a photo. Their ice creams are homemade, and for me, the coconut flavor tasted more authentic than green tea flavor.
Solid Thai food. May not be the best in DC, but still it hits the spot. Also solid service and atmosphere. It’s a good place to go if you’re in the area and/or you want to meet up for dinner with friends or coworkers. Large space and we went on a weekday and didn’t need a reservation.
We got there 11:55 am on a cold and rainy Saturday. They let us in 5 minutes before they opened, which was cool. The food was good. My flank steak had a nice dipping sauce and came with good papaya salad. Meat was somewhat tough. It had two spicy signs but barely earned one. My wife got some fried rice that came with three spicy signs; she asked for extra spicy. That one was very good, and I would give it two spicy signs.

Not bad
Amazing authentic Thai food!
If you're after an authentic and delicious feed, this is the place to come! Couldn't fault any of the food or drinks. The staff were lovely and made us feel welcome. If I'm ever back in Washington DC, I'll be coming back!!
Just 1 word, fabulous! Reasonable prices, delicious food, and personalized service! Fluke took great care of us. I ordered the massamun curry, and my husband ordered a fish dish, Pad Cha Talay and Tom Yum soup. It was all flavorful, spicy and delicious! Don’t miss this gem on the west side!🤗

FULL DISCLOSURE: I lived in Thailand for several years and fell in love with Thai food. Any Thai restaurant in the US that gets 3 stars from me is pretty well.
Excellent service. Beautiful interior/atmosphere. My wife and I didn't have a reservation (just 2 people who are willing to sit at the bar). Apparently they take them.
This is my GO TO when I am seeing a performance at the Kennedy Center.
Very nice Thai restaurant in the central part of town. The dining hall has a somewhat formal though relaxed atmosphere, it is quite big but arranged on different levels so that it does not feel crowded. The food was quite good, they had a good selection of drinks. The bill for the two of us was $96. We may consider going back, if in the area.
We picked Soi 38 to host a 25-person business dinner on fairly short notice. They pulled it off beautifully, and our attendees had a great time. Thank you!
I ordered the shrimp dish, it was $20 for 8 pieces of shrimps (with tail intact) with a side of rice.
Later, I developed really bad allergies, probably because the shrimps were old? I dont have any previous allergy to shrimps and now my whole body is on fire.
Service is bad
I ate a lot in Thailand. Sorry, but its not even close. Not in the richness and sharpnes of flavours, and the general flavour of the food. That being said, the food was not bad and size of portions is ok.
Dirty plate, utensils, extremely bad attitude from the waiter. Food is plain, the taste is not as good as the past. I don’t really understand why this restaurant could be rate as Michelin to be honest. When I asked the waiter to change the utensils and plate, they did not even apologize for it. I would give 0 zeros to the service if I can. NOT RECOMMENDED :(
Nice food like it
We came here for a bridal party Saturday and had a wonderful experience. All members of my party raved about the food and loved the ambiance in the restaurant. The crab fried rice was just delicious, not soaking in grease or over seasoned like other fried rices. The dish was light and flavorful and the crab was able to shine through and be perfectly complimented with a light fluffy fried rice, rather than one that overwhelms and causes a stomach ache like many others. The staff were very helpful and even stepped in to get some photos of us enjoying our meal with our polaroid camera. Would love to come back again and try a few more dishes!
Had a reservation on a Friday night but it didn’t seem necessary as there were plenty of open tables when we arrived.
Service was prompt from start to end of the meal.
I appreciated that the seating felt private from other diners, and there is tons of booth style seating.
I ordered the chicken pad Thai. I thought it was amazing - not at all dry. I wish there was more chicken on it, but the flavors were great.
Great food.
I had both lunch AND dinner at the restaurant on the same day since I loved their foods. I have tried spring roll, som tum salad, pad thai, banana with fried roti and coconut ice cream, and green tea ice cream. They were all good, and my favorite was pad thai. Ive had mixed experiences with Soi 38. Sometimes it's more of a 4-star spot, while other times it falls a bit short. If there ever were half stars, this spot would be a solid 3.5. Lol
First, the good. The papaya salad and most other appetizers, like satay, are usually dependable. The dishes vary greatly. I've had good and lackluster (never bad) experiences with standard dishes, such as pad see ew and kee mao. Sometimes I feel like this place *seems* better than it is simply due to how terrible rival Thai restaurants are in DC!
And while service is usually decent, I found this last visit to be average at best. It felt like they were overextended and annoyed by my nerve to ask for sweetener for unsweetened iced tea. *shrug* But generally, they're nice and accommodating, and no doubt, I will return. Overall, I opted for a 3 star review, subject to change.
When we visited this restaurant for dinner, we were promptly greeted and seated by attentive staff. The venue had a warm, relaxing vibe with some class. The food was delicious and nicely prepared/presented.
I definitely would recommend this place if you're in the mood for some great Thai cuisine.
I visited this restaurant with a friend. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. This is also a beautifully decorated place (the gold and black painted walls and ceilings, unique chandeliers, etc. It’s ideal for business meetings, a night out with friends, etc.
The food has no flavor.
Nice atmosphere and good service, food was so-so and not very flavorful
Bad service, waitress is so rude
Waitress is so rude
The waitress is so rude
Super lekker
dirty everywhere i regret going here last time i tried authethic thailand food it was so good after eating this i forgot how authenthic thailand food taste like they didnt serve me for 20 min when i order the menu was dirty i dont even know what i woulf say im very dissapointed
All of it is bad do not come here the sevice is bad NOT AUTHENTHIC PHAD THAI and when they work they just chit chat when i try to look for the bathroom the workers said *go find it yourself* and they lied to me i saw in the menu the pad thai cost 15 dollars they charge me 30 dollars horrible and the toilet has cockroach on it the food took 30-40 min the food was already cold to THIS IS THE WORST NOT AUTHENTIC THAILAND RESTAURAND i ever eaten in my life i spended 182 dollars i only bought 2 stuff
They serve me dirty glass i have nothing to say
Top notch Thai food. First meal in DC, and couldn't be happier.
Great service and atmosphere too.
Front doors look closed because the restaurant looks dark from outside. Just push hard on the double doors to open.
The restaurant boasts an expansive space with dramatic features, creating an impressive ambiance. However, the odd background music, interspersed with commercials, detracts from the experience—did someone forget to pay for the subscription?
The dishes are well-presented and rich in flavor, showcasing culinary expertise. There are only a handful of clearly marked vegan options, which is a plus for those with dietary preferences.
Unfortunately, the service leaves much to be desired. The server was apathetic, unwilling to offer suggestions or accommodate requests. This lack of attentiveness significantly dampened an otherwise promising dining experience.
Had a few things here. Not that great honestly, really expensive for no reason. Mid food and even worse drinks.
Nice pad Thai w shrimp and excellent summer rolls (with lettuce, not fried). Will be back to try more dishes. Nice interior and atmosphere.
Love it!! So good like I eat in Thailand. Make me feel home.
Hands down the Best Thai I have found in the US! Very authentic and makes me hunger to go back to Thailand for the food!
I always get the Som Tum Gai Yang- why need with perfection?! And we get the massaman curry. All great choices! I got the Thai iced coffee for the first time here- why wasn’t I ordering this before? Oh I quit drinking lol the iced coffee is better than the Thai tea and they are both excellent choices!
Can’t go wrong here!
Food was so delicious, one the best Thai places we have tried
A superb Thai gem in DC. We were there after our daughters graduation. Not your mill of the Thai restaurant. Great flavors
It was horrible.
The noodles were soggy, and the fried tofu was stale and smelly, so I asked them to throw it away. The server was terrible and made me feel terrible the whole time I was in the restaurant. I can't believe this place has a Google rating of 4.3 and it makes me lose faith in Google ratings. I didn't even bother tipping.
The food is great, but the service could use some improvement.
The street food dishes were tasty and appealing. However the service was perfunctory and lacked attention. Overall this detracted from what could have been a more positive dining experience.
Food quality is okay, portion is expected for this type of establishment.
The service was terrible, I was screamed at by one of the female server because I went up to them to order my food when they were chit-chatting among themselves. I noticed she was also friendlier and nicer to the white customers so I think she might be racist. When another server finally took our order, he got the food wrong and kept forgetting our request.
What a gem! Menu delights are traditional fine-tuned and everything prepared well and presentation is superb. Enjoyed grilled pork belly appetizers, and entrees crispy duck and pork with fresh ginger and peanuts. Amazing! Oh and must have dessert - any selection!
The food was good however the customer service was poor. Upon entering the building the hostess looked at my friend and I up and down without greeting us. Then we ended up spending two hours at this establishment only because I had to get the attention of the waitress multiple times in order to place an order or get the check however noticed that the groups in front AND to the back of us had arrived after us but were able to be served and leave well before us (about an hour or so).
Good food but bizarrely bad service. From waiting a long time for someone to bother seating us, or taking an order, to bringing our dessert out with our appetizers, this was a case study in bad waitering.
Great food. Definitely coming back.
Our go-to for the best Thai food in the area!! Everything is fresh, flavorful and delicious. The decor is modern and comfortable. We particularly like sitting in the booths.
We generally have a good service there, but the last time we went with a party of 5. The waitress added an automatic 20% gratuity and then was incredibly slow and curt. We literally sat for 20 minutes before she even greeted us. Then we sat for another 15 minutes before she took our drink order. After waiting another 15 minutes we had to hunt her down to take our food order and then later for the check. It was the slowest meal I’ve ever had anywhere. Thankfully, the food was still delicious and we weren’t in a hurry, so I didn’t feel the need to complain. :)
Three stars because after my partner and I spent $60, we were hungry again three hours later. Simple rule.... If you want $60 from me you better fill me up for the night. Otherwise, you're robbing me.
Good food. Everything we ordered was tasty with authentic Thai flavor touch.
The food here was really good. Fresh, delicious noodles, cooked perfectly. The spices were on point and just enough heat. The spring rolls were just a tad overcooked but still very good. Prices are decent, too. I was pleased with my meal and would definitely go back.
Food tasted good and authentic. However, the portion sizes relative to the price are outrageously small. Either make the portions bigger to reflect the price or lower the price.
It was a unique experience to try Northern Thai food. You can taste the difference from Thai food served in Bangkok, or in Thailand’s s southern regions. I got the larb, and it was really spicy and refreshing. Same with the Tom Ka Gai, which had a good amount of acidity. Servers were pretty nice, and food came out quickly. Would definitely recommend.
Delicious and wonderful food.
Had food delivered and the mango sticky rice was a ball of plain rice, no mango or sauce, and the mild pad Thai was extremely spicy to the point I could not eat it. They didn't even try to fill the order correctly.
Came here for a group lunch; fast and attentive service. Beautifully presented dishes. Low noise level (wonderful to be able to hear each other. The Pad Cha Talay is lovely. It's a seafood dish consisting of shrimp, scallop, squid, mussel, young peppercorns, Thai basil, rhizome, red chili sauce. Very nice ambiance and decor. The place feels airy with lots of natural light.
Great food. Very tasty. We really like the atmosphere.
Ambiance was nice but as someone who is a Thai Food enthusiast, the food was nothing too special.
Excellent!
Very nice Thai food!
Excellent food, great service.
Great food/atmosphere. quick service! Duck rolls were amazing
Excellent food. Ordered gong paoo, khao pad kee mao and kra prow. Spices were mixed very well and reached expectations.
We had a team lunch there and it was absolutely perfect. The place is very nice, much less loud than most restaurants around, we had a very nice table, the staff was accommodating, the food very good, service fast and efficient, and very good value. This restaurant is elegant in its design and atmosphere but actually affordable for the standard, and even less pricy than similar restaurants around. I think it’s a gem in this regard in the neighborhood.
Food is delicious, staff is very friendly and nice and the decoration is very cool.
Best pad thai I've ever had!
Love this place. One of the better high end Thai restaurants in the city.
The food is so rich in flavor
Trendy place in Phoenix, AZ. A mixture of various cuisines and dishes. It was a wonderful night for family shared dishes.
THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE. My out of town family was visiting and wanted Thai food so I made a reservation here for 6 people on a weeknight bc this place had good reviews. I got there early and scouted out the restaurant for a nice table. The restaurant was almost EMPTY with at most 5 patrons sitting near the bar. The rest of the restaurant was completely empty. There was a nice big round booth to the front right side of the restaurant near the window. This was the only unique style table in the whole restaurant. I asked to be seated there since it would be a nice family table. The hostess told me no and proceeded to explain why. She said "That table is too far away from the kitchen, it's a long walk for me, I want you to sit closer to the kitchen so I can attend to you better." I tried to reason with her as this was an absolutely ABSURD excuse but she would not comply so I asked to speak to a manager. The "manager Luke" came over and was one of the worst restaurant managers I have ever met. He did not greet me despite seeing I was an upset customer. I once again asked to be seated at that unique booth but instead he proceeded to give me the same explanation as the hostess. He offered me to sit at one of the smaller standard booths on the other side of restaurant. THIS MAKES NO SENSE. The restaurant is completely empty. You should let the customers sit where they want. Also, instead of arguing with a customer who is clearly upset, the manager should have common sense to be apologetic and try to find a solution to the problem. This manager had NO EMPATHY. He kept cutting me off in mid sentence and would not allow me to talk. It's like he was almost annoyed I was even trying to dine at his restaurant. I had a party of 6 people ready to order a lot of food but as soon as I saw the way this restaurant treats their customers, I immediately decided to go elsewhere. We left and walked 15 mins over to THAI CHEF STREET FOOD. They welcomed us and the food was delicious. In the end I was SO HAPPY I walked out of stupid Soi 38. They have TERRIBLE customer service and I will never go back there again. Shame on them.
Delicious!
The food was delicious. They had a simple and creative take on sticky rice and mango that really elevated the flavor.
This place was a grade above all the places nearby in terms of food, service and overall value.
가성비 좋고 직원들도 친절합니다. ^^
All the flavors and things you want out of Thai food. Any spring roll you order will delight with a wonderful minty sauce. The Larde salad is worth it. So many great dishes to chose from beside pad Thai but if you happen to chose it -get ready for a nice sweet but light surprise.
Bad service
Great Thai food, but for the price it is definitely not the best. I’ve been to other Thai places that are both cheaper and better. Portions are also quite small.
I tried the Shrimp Pad See Ew and the Ped Krob Kra Prow. Both were decently flavorful and tasty. Would recommend trying both while you are here.
The staff are friendly and the restaurant is not too busy during the lunch hour.
Great green curry. Great service.
Good food, but fairly standard. Reasonably priced (for DC). Mediocre service. Ambiance is average with reasonable decor but poor sound insulation. Overall I would skip this place if traveling, but if you live or work in the area, it might be a decent place to grab a bite once in a while.
Enticed by the glowing reviews, my wife and I were compelled to experience this establishment. Our order comprised tofu pad thai, moo yang Kati sod, Thai iced tea, and som tum sling. The tofu pad thai struck a delightful balance between sweetness and savory flavors. The moo yang kati sod, a presentation of pork belly on skewers, was masterfully cooked, avoiding the overcooking that's often encountered elsewhere. Its accompanying dipping sauce added a lovely touch. The som tum sling reminded me of a spicy lemonade. The staff's attentive service included drink refills and wonderful suggestions. The ambiance and decor were appealing. In hindsight, I regret not ordering more dishes and I'm hopeful for another visit before departing.
What a disappointing and bizarre experience - a member from our party of six ordered one pot of green tea. She was unable to finish it, so naturally we wanted to share and she asked the server for another empty cup. The server outright refused to provide one. When we asked her why, she said it was the restaurant policy: “one pot, one cup.” We then asked to speak to the manager, who came out and apologized but said he couldn’t give us another cup as it was the owner’s policy, not his. He did however confirm that we could share everything else on the table. I have never heard of such an asinine policy. It ruined the rest of our dining experience and we decided not to order dessert.
Other than that, no complaints about the food, everything we ordered was flavorful. In general, our server was inattentive and showed little interest in our overall dining experience. We will not be back.
I visited this place for the first time with my friends. Despite the empty seats in the restaurant, we had to wait about 5 minutes for a server to appear at the entrance. It took about 25-30 minutes for our order to come out, I ordered fried rice and they didn't bring me a spoon. So even when I waved for a spoon, he didn't come, so I had to go, and we had to find and use napkins. They didn't even refill our water once and didn't pay attention to our table itself. What the hell did we do wrong? Is it because we are foreigners who do not speak English? Okay, GOOD JOB! 🤮
One of the worst Thai foods I had in my life. Panang was watery with no flavor. Pad Thai was dry. Appetizers seemed like microwaved. Service was decent.
Good food but really really bad service, especially at this price point. Got the Khao Soi curry which was very good but served luke warm, servers began asking for last calls at an hour to close, and generally were not attentive even though the restaurant wasn't that full. Too expensive for service to be this bad.
Food was really good, though served a little lukewarm. Asked to heat up one dish of lukewarm curry and they microwaved it for us. Service was rushed and they did last call for us 30 minutes before they closed and clearly were trying to push us out of here. Drinks were really good, vibe was nice. Too expensive for the service to be this bad though.
Absolutely loved my visit to Soi 38! The ambience was delightful, creating a pleasant dining atmosphere. The service was excellent, and the staff was attentive and friendly. As for the food, it was simply delicious! The rice dishes, shrimp, and noodles were bursting with flavors, and the portions were just right. Plus, they ensured that the food arrived on time. A definite go-to spot for tasty Thai cuisine with a fantastic overall experience! Highly recommended!
Great food and reasonably priced. Highly recommend.
Affordable Thai food of higher quality- honest to the original Thai cousine.
Best Thai food in West end!
We were able to make a 9:15pm reservation, but were not told that the kitchen closed at 9:30pm until it was 9:30pm. We had only 5mins to look at the menu. We rushed our order. The food was OK. But we didn’t have the foresight to order dessert. The staff seemed irritated that we were there until 10:15pm. Who eats a nice meal in 30mins?Overall, good som tum, noodles, larb. I wish the service had been better. They shouldn’t have a 9:15pm reservation option OR they should be up front about the time crunch.
Thoroughly enjoyed dinner at Soi 38. The restaurant is busy with an Eclectic clientele and has a good vibe. The menu is populated with interesting options as well as a few of the traditional Thai dishes. Service was efficient and timely. The food was thoughtfully prepared and delicious. Definitely recommend the baked shrimp. Will be back and also will try it's sister restaurant which provides a traditional Thai menu.
Good Thai restaurant in Georgetown. Excellent food
Great place! A little bit pricey but really good food.
My husband and I decided to try this restaurant during our stay in DC. We made reservations online and we were seated on time. I ordered the pad khing and my husband had Khao soi. We both enjoyed our dishes. Probably the best flavor of Khao soi we've had since we visited Thailand. It is pretty spicy but super flavorful. Service was friendly and the restaurant was clean. A good choice for a Thai craving
Been there 3 times since March. Food is awesome and reasonably priced. Service is excellent. Go. You will be pleased.
