Ordered lunch seafood pad see-Ew. It had literally 1 shrimp, 1 oyster, and 1 scallop. You pay $5 extra for this. Crazy work. They are getting people. DO NOT COME FOR LUNCH HERE.

Diner Review №2

I really liked this place, however, my last visit was not good. The service quality has decreased, and the food is fair now. The worst part was to see one of the waitresses cutting her nails in front of the table. See the pictures. This was GROSS. The lady didn't even care.

Diner Review №3

The good: no prob w parking, kind waitress.
The bad: quality of food is very mediocre. I walked in thinking I’d get the reasonably- priced “LUNCH special” ($16) and I left paying $27 for basic Pad Thai, a drink and the mandatory DC tip. Not worth the money.

Diner Review №4

Good food and good service.

Ordered take out and bit into a hard and sharp metal wire a little more than an inch long in my vegetarian green curry. Almost cracked my tooth.

Diner Review №7

They didn’t follow instructions about my nut allergy so I had to take the nuts out it if I didn’t I would’ve died

I ordered the Tom yum and Tom kha soup (both Thai spicy) in addition to mango sticky rice. The Tom yum is delicious (haven’t tried the Tom kha yet) however the sticky rice was the problem. It was salty which was shocking. In addition i payed $10 for about 1/4 cup of rice mashed down with half a mango. Unacceptable for me personally and I will be patronizing other Thai establishments where the price coincides with the portion.

Diner Review №10

Solid choice for Thai good and the service is great!

Diner Review №11

I ordered a pad Thai and it smelled like dead chicken. I lived Thai food but it ruined the experience for me. Couldn't eat it, the food smelled terrible and the taste was below average.
20 dollars for a small plate of pad Thai ... Terrible

Diner Review №12

I've been coming here for about 5 years now, and they've always been friendly. The food is delicious, reasonably portioned, and reasonably priced to boot. You really can't go wrong here. If you love Thai, Sala Thai will impress!

Diner Review №13

We thought the food was excellent! Everything was very fresh. Not pictured are their wontons, which were savory with a bit of chicken inside, I think(?). Thai iced tea was absolutely amazing. Loved that there was a lot of fresh cabbage in the spring rolls. The sauce on the pad see ew was perfect, but I always order extra sauce. The fried rice was flavorful. Service was great. Added gratuity, so make sure you check your bill. They also no longer serve sushi—their website should be updated, as it still shows they have sushi.

Diner Review №14

Salsa Thai has solid Thai offerings presented in a nice atmosphere, and the addition of a full bar and happy hour menu is a welcome addition that I don’t see at most other Thai restaurants. The wait staff was very cordial, timely, and informative. I’ve ordered from here both as takeout and delivery, and it’s great both ways!

We were visiting DC with our five kids. We all love Thai food and Sala Thai did not disappoint. We had every dish on the lunch menu and they were all perfect. You can not go wrong ordering here. Staff is very attentive and quick to refill drinks. Ask for spice tray. It has everything you need to heat it up some more, if you like! Thai tea was a great treat to finish the meal. We will come here every time we visit our son in grad school. There is a parking garage across the street. Only 2 dollars for first hour. Very convenient.

I first started eating from this location and the service was great. After a while the manager appeared to be arrogant.
I would not advise anyone to visit this restaurant.

Diner Review №21

My weekly stop! I am in town once a week and have made Sala Thai my lunch destination! The menu has many options and all items have amazing flavor and are prepared fresh. One new item is the Salt and Pepper Calamari (pictured) that is sooo good! I recommend grabbing a Thai tea if you're nearby and in a hurry. Otherwise, the Lab Gai or Kaprow are probably my favorites and always hit the spot!

The restaurant is always a great atmosphere and the staff are super friendly and attentive. I like to find street parking but there's also a parking garage literally across the small street in front.

Tell them Amtrak Sam sent you!

Diner Review №22

So I came here for a happy hour quick dinner while working on the area. The sushi roll was actually phenomenal for 6 dollars I got a great salmon avocado roll. The salad had a phenomenal peanut based hot dressing that was full of flavor and the beer was a beer lol. My issue is when trying to order an additional roll the waitress behind the bar said it would be 30 minutes as I'm behind large door dash orders normally I would be okay with that but it seems that they have an issue with priority management. On top of that I was only spoken to once during my dinner and I would have liked to order more. But I'm mostly upset that at the end of my dinner feeling a bit annoyed I'm given a check that was "off" they had pre added a gratuity of 18%. While I enjoy being generous with a tip for great service normally giving 20% or more I find it offensive to be given a bill that already has it in it. The DC taxes already charge so much and to do this seem egregious. I likely won't be back while I'm working in the area.

Diner Review №23

Muy atentas y te sirven rápido!

Diner Review №24

Always good

Diner Review №25

Food is not consistent. The sweet and sour sauce is horrible. I had the papaya salad with shrimp and only received two which was a waste of money. I think the food is inconsistent. The spring rolls had no meat and the calamari was tough. But the drinks from the bar are good and I am talking about the non alcoholic. The pad Thai tasted like sugar noodles.

Update: They upgraded the menu and after supporting them I have noticed their portions are getting smaller. They add a tip automatically so pay attention to your bill. There are some dishes that have sauce and meat and no veggies. Most of the appetizers are not quality I tried a few and was left wishing I did not eat it. Place is not as great as I thought for the price. Lunch is a decent deal but comes out to 20 dollars for everything and starts at 11.95.

Diner Review №26

Happy Hour prices are great; however, service is HORRIBLE. My waitress had a language barrier, which wasn't an issue for me; however, she ordered something I had only inquired about and (I guess) got mad when she brought the item to me and I informed her I did not order it. There wasn't even an issue after she took the item back, just a misunderstanding, so I thought. For the rest of my time there, I watched her check on her other tables and completely SKIP over me. EVERY SINGLE TIME. She NEVER came back to my table, not even to give me my bill. I had to ask someone else for it. It was the rudest thing ever. Will not be returning!!!

Diner Review №27

I first started dining at Sala Thai restaurant back in 2018 at the Minnesota Ave location, where I instantly fell in love with their chef fried rice and crispy calamari, among other menu items. When I moved to NE, I made the Rhode Island Row location my new go-to spot and have been a regular visitor ever since, indulging in their delicious Thai iced tea and sushi rolls almost daily. My absolute favorite dish is the Mei Fun (without pork or seafood), and I also enjoy their tofu with spicy basil fried rice, curry puffs, spring rolls, and an assortment of specialty rolls. Lately, I've noticed a significant improvement in their interior, menu offerings, and the quality of service, making my dining experience even more enjoyable. I highly recommend paying them a visit for a delightful culinary experience.

Diner Review №28

Note: This review is based on a delivery / takeout order, so focused exclusively on the food and not the service / ambiance.

Although I was a little hesitant about the less-than-stellar reviews, I was recently desperately craving some Thai food and UberEats had a 30% off deal for this place that was just too good to pass up. And, wow, am I glad I took the risk! I was SUPER happy with everything that I ordered, and it absolutely satisfied my need for a bit of spicy, holy basil-infused comfort in a bowl.

I ordered their pad see ew with vegetables and shrimp, papaya salad, and mango sticky rice -- each dish was fantastic, and they had generous portions; this was plenty of food for 2-2.5 meals. I put everything at their "regular" spice level, which didn't seem to be super consistent across their dishes. The pad see ew was hardly spicy, while the papaya salad made me run for a glass of water.

The pad see ew was nearly perfect -- it had a great balance of spicy, sweet, and savory flavor profiles, and the noodles were soft but still slightly chewy. The veggies were fresh and crisp, and the shrimp was juicy and plump with a great touch of char from the wok. The noodles were a bit more oily than I generally prefer, but it was still a great dish overall!

And the noodles paired perfectly with the light, refreshing papaya salad (requested without peanuts because I'm allergic). The papaya, carrot, and green beans were all super fresh and had a great crunch. They went wonderfully with the salty, sweet, sour, and spicy dressing, and the tomatoes offered a great extra little pop of freshness! This dish takes its spice a bit more seriously than the other items on the menu, so either have a glass of water ready or order it slightly milder level.

After a delicious (and slightly spicier than expected) meal, the mango sticky rice was the perfect way to wrap up this comforting dinner. The rice was perfectly sticky but not mushy, and it was sweet, but not overly so, from the coconut milk / sugar. This was all topped with a lovely sliced mango, which was at the perfect level of ripeness to offer a refreshing, natural sweetness as well as a slight sour kick to balance out the rest of the dessert. I also loved the way they arranged the two mango halves to look like a heart -- so cute!

All in all, I was thoroughly impressed by Sala Thai! Every dish was delicious and super well-executed -- I can't wait to try out the rest of their menu in-person!

Good Eats! Get off at Rhode Island metro and a short walk to Sala Thai Live music on Fridays, cute lil bar and great authentic Thai options.

Always great food, fast service

Diner Review №36

Food: The food was excellent. Served hot and fast. I had the crab fried rice and calamari. Both were outstanding, special mention for the calamari dipping sauce.

Service: The service was friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. They suggested the calamari and were very patience (too many good options).

Atmosphere: The tables and floor were clean, light music in the background, lights appropriately dimmed.

General disposition: Chilled, definitely go again.

Diner Review №46

Such a nice experience! Even though I was alone was able to sit where I wanted. The Dancing eel roll was so good! They also serve chilled glasses with your beer :) service was on point, enough said!

Diner Review №47

Everything was really good! We got pad see ew and pad pak and both were good. Very fast service as well.

Diner Review №48

Trouble service, I placed order over the phone. Only to arrive and my order was not ready so I sat for 20 minutes because my husband just got home from the hospital and wanted Thai for dinner. Only to finally get the order and it was someone else's order. Then I have to wait another 15 minutes for the order I placed. To get home and realize they charge me for a large which use to come in a square box. Then they had the nerve to call saying when am I coming to pickup my order?? I'm done with this restaurant, poor service poor communication. Restaurant association will here about this, spend your money somewhere else....

Diner Review №52

Diner Review №53

The rice was undercooked or from day before pad ginger added shrimp the Shrimp was rubbery the veggies were over cooked order at 7p June 4th and the food was cold I wouldn’t recommend unless you got money to waste

Diner Review №54

Love the lemongrass dish and the sushi is tasty! Superb!

Diner Review №55

Very, very, very good authentic Tai!

Diner Review №56

I always get the basil fried rice which I always enjoy with the spicy flavors. The prices and portions of the food are very reasonable and I like that they have lunch deals.

The service is pretty each time I've gone to all the locations. It's always clean too.

Diner Review №57

Great customer service - everyone very nice - I will be coming back!!

Diner Review №58

Great food and service. First I had the calamari which was fried perfectly with duck sauces that had an amazing sticky texture that coated the calamari. Second the chili basil mussels were so good I was upset when I ate them all and you don’t need a sauce the broth is all you need. I ordered fries and they were fried nice and crispy and the chicken in garlic sauce with broccoli is a must have off the lunch menu. The drink were nice and strong. I will be coming back to try more off the menu especially the sushi bar.

Diner Review №59

The food tasted as if it came straight from the freezer to the grease! No taste or personality or authentic tastes! Very disappointed with the food!

Diner Review №60

Diner Review №61

Typical Thai food.

Diner Review №62

Went for a birthday happy hour, good drinks, food and friendly vibe and atmosphere. Definitely recommend!

Diner Review №63

Good food but the atmosphere is a little like a high school cafeteria.

Diner Review №64

My go-to for Thai cuisine. Friendly staff and the food is always great!

Diner Review №65

So good! I had been hesitant since a lot of the places in this area have mediocre reviews. Glad I tried it. Will def be returning often. I had the spicy basil fried rice with shrimp and a side of spring rolls. Loved it all. And the sweet and sour sauce was really good too.

Diner Review №81

1st time here normally go to Minn. Ave. The Spicy Thai was AWFUL! rice sticky, shrimp spongy, I immediately sent it back! The spring rolls had an after taste... this place needs to be updated... Even the menu if different from Minn. Ave.

Diner Review №82

The Sala Thai duck with red curry sauce was great. I had it about 2 months ago now & it’s still on my mind lol however the veggies that comes with it could’ve been better. The sushi here is great, came here for lunch a few time last year for sushi but they don’t serve it during lunch anymore which is why I gave 4 stars

Diner Review №83

I went a week ago and it really disappointed me honestly this use to be my favorite spot. But it was not the cleanest; the plates looked old and had scratches on them, the seats and tables weren’t the cleanest and lastly it didn’t smell the best in there. Hopefully y’all do a turnaround and come back to the restaurant I use to know.

Diner Review №88

After running errands at DMV all morning , I found this place just across the DMV office and had drunken noodles with pork for my lunch. I didn’t wait long. The portion was good. It was the right amount of spicy and savory flavors. I will come back!

Diner Review №89

I order from here all the time yes there food is good this time I ordered through grub hub I asked for shrimp inside my rice which I paid extra for once I got my food my order was incorrect instead of asking for a refund I then called the restaurant and a young lady answered I told her they forgot my shrimp she keeps telling me they put it in there when I know they didn’t so I told her it’s fine I’ll contact door dash, once door dash gave me my refund she blows up my phone the second time I answer she tells me they put shrimp in it again and I know they didn’t she says grub hub is still going to pay us I said ok , she calls again and I didn’t answer anyways I feel harassed over 3 pcs of shrimp which is sad I love this place but I won’t be ordering from here again.

Diner Review №90

Took family who were in town there and the staff stared at us when we walked like we were Aliens. Very weird vibes . We didn’t even have the appetite to stay and eat we decided to go eat out at another place. Recommend to stay away if you don’t enjoy being stared at if your black .

Diner Review №92

Super good, great service, vert friendly, prices are very affordable. I recommend!!

Diner Review №93

Staff was very friendly and conscientious of the mask protocol. The food and drinks were absolutely delicious and there was a relaxed ambience as well.

Diner Review №94

We arrived an hour before closing, so not sure if that's why the quality of the food was not so great. There were also lots of people just waiting for takeout or delivery so the kitchen may have been super busy. Unfortunately the ingredients weren't great and weren't mixed very evenly. The oil on the spring rolls had been reused too many times. Food tasted more like Chinese takeout than authentic Thai food. But even Chinese takeout has a more consistent and satisfying taste. The interior of the place, while pleasant, also didn't look anything Thai. Service was good, if a little delayed, maybe because of all the takeout people.

Diner Review №95

Got the chicken basil fried rice and shrimp fried rice. Both was fresh and delicious. Definitely recommend this place

Diner Review №96

Tried every member of my party's food it was all delicious. The staff was friendly and attentive. Wonderful lunch. Only complaint is that my stomach is too small. I want to eat the menu.

Diner Review №97

Really great food. Loved the spicy basil fried rice 👍🏼

Diner Review №98

Very weak overall, this restaurant can’t compete with other DC Thai restaurants, especially Aroi about a mile down Rhode Island Avenue. The Tom Kha soup looked and tasted like it came from a can, and all protein was over cooked. Overall felt very low end, low budget, though prices are actually higher than quality options like Aroi.

I really need to stop forgetting to avoid this place. My chicken satay was like bland rubber on a stick and my kaprow had more green beans than anything else. Why are there green beans at all??? Update 2021: over the last 5 years I've been going to this place when I work in DC for months at a time or when I come to visit. Last time I went for some middle-aged woman sitting right in front of the desk they're absolutely refused to acknowledge that I was standing right there despite me after probably about 10 minutes of waiting right in front of her face while she was doing a crossword puzzle cleaning using the phone. Eventually she sat me down after I requested it in a menu. And then she told me there was absolutely nothing on the menu that would be gluten-free so I can't eat it. All these years I've been eating there I was told that I was getting gluten free stuff and having some minor GI discomfort afterward after the Massaman curry... This woman's rude that's really dampened my experience of a place that I really enjoyed going to for years. I'm going to be honest I was really feeling some kind of way about how I was treated. Absolutely no apology about making me wait or for not being able to accommodate my dietary request.

Original review:
I've been to this place precovid and postcovid...I personally think their food is a bit too salty but I'm from New York and I seem to think everything out here is but too salty That's not catering to ethnic folk... But I will say the service is phenomenal but if you like Masaman Curry or a lot of Thai variety this is not the place. I believe the lunch specials come with a soup or salad. they lost one star for not having massaman and for the saltiness. But overall the food was pretty good and personally I think I got enough duck in my meal. A lot of places don't have duck and this place did and it was very tender.

My friend lives in the neighborhood and Sala Thai is located conveniently right downstairs. We decided to order lunch one day and I was pleasantly surprised! I've been to other locations of this chain, and this by far is the best one.

We ordered for pick up and the food was ready in less than 10 minutes. Bonus!

I had...

Shrimp Pad Thai - A solid Pad Thai. Well prepared, only thing that could use improvement was the shrimp. It was a little overcooked and not very flavorful.

Papaya Salad - Super fresh. It wasn't drenched in dressing and had the perfect level of spice.

I did pick up so didn't have much experience with their dining service. But the service for ordering and picking up was great and a breeze.

The lunch prices are super reasonable. And portions are generous.

A winner for lunch!

Diner Review №145

Sala Thai is absolutely one of my favorite food spots! My go-to is their red curry duck. I just ate this last night and I'm already craving more 🥲 The crispy duck goes so well with the silky curry that has just the right amount of kick without being too spicy. We tried the dragon roll as well and it was great! The portion sizes are generous, the food reheats well if you want to take any of it to-go, and the service is quick and excellent. Highly recommend!

They're fast and the food always seems fresh. I've liked the calamari and their sushi, which I know seems like a bad idea given that it's a Thai restaurant but it's the closest sushi to me so you gotta do what you gotta do. I'm looking forward to trying more of their menu!

Diner Review №156

I wish I took photos of what I ate. I also wish I remember what I ordered. I tried a new dish and it was delicious.

Diner Review №157

Very good, about as authentic as I can vouch for.
Ordered: Drunken Noodle (veg), they didn't give me an option for spice level. It was about what I'd want it to be.

Price was fair for the area, about $15 with tax.
Inside is clean and nice decor and seems to be doing dine in at this point.

Diner Review №161

Not sure if this was an off night but we just ordered delivery and it was terrible: pad thai (maybe the most dry and awful flavor I ever had), curry (with terrible mealy shrimp), and satay (super dry). We ordered based on 4 1/2 start review but honestly this food was terrible and definitely not worth the price tag they are charging.

Diner Review №162

On June 7, 2020, around 1:55pm, I walk in to find the cashier at the section where online orders take place. She acknowledges my walking in, but rather than walk over to me, she begins to spray down the machines and takes the time to wipe them down before asking if I’m ready to order. After all this, she then walks over to me. She seemed to be more interested in cleaning, then taking my order upon entry. I find this to be poor customer service!! What say you?

No question, to the cook, the food is good!!

Diner Review №163

One waitress she was talking to began taking away everything, including my drink, even though I wasn't finished. I had a tip and left it, but she did not deserve it. They will not get my service again and I will be letting my company (113 employees who are also "my kind") across the street know this is not a place to go if you want to be respected. Update 2 years later- me nor employees have visited the establishment.

The food is sooooooooooo good. I always order two entrees saying I'm gonna eat one that night the other the next day. Well I dont I eat both and end up being stuffed.

It was okay. I had the set2 on the lunch specials menu. I can't remember the name. The spring rolls were tiny. The lunch special was pretty good. Comes with a drink. But they dont have free refills on soda unless you pay for a soda, then you get 1 free refill. Its worth a try though. Wasnt busy when I went. The waitress was friendly.

Pad Thai tasted like I was eating corn syrup and msg with some noodles in it.

The customer service is friendly, something that can be difficult to find in Washington. The food is solid Thai American, good for those experimenting with Thai food but not as satisfying if you have had authentic Thai before. It is great in the day, but they leave the lights up really bright at night which spoils the ambiance somewhat. Overall I enjoy dining at Sala Thai and do recommend it, especially if you are looking for an affordable and tasty lunch option.

Terrible service the manager was very rude. The server was not informative and once brought to the manager attention she told me “well you know now”. The manager literally yelled at me in the middle of the restaurant while other guest was present. I was very respectful and calm just wanted to know why didn’t the server tell us about the cost to add certain things. It seems like she was adding to the check to make the check bigger hopefully to get a bigger tip. I’m over supporting companies who don’t respect everyone! I don’t know the experiences the manager had with other customers but for her to show me no respect and be so rude over misunderstanding. It’s sad that people are so comfortable treating customers like so poorly over a few dollars shouldn’t it be about the experience and your reputation. The server came to our table twice! Was not attentive at all!

Good ambiance and great service.
A must visit.
