There wasn't a wait when I walked in and service was beyond quicker that I expected. The coconut shrimp appetizer was absolutely delicious and the main course of Pad Thai I had was very filling. You can share a main course with someone which is what I did and still have leftovers. The food is very delicious and very affordable compared to other Asian eateries that I was nearby.
Ordered in several times and the food was brilliant every single time. Decided to actually go to the restaurant in person and it was even better! Super fresh, nice wait staff and great service. Would return for sure.
The Pad See Ew is really good, so is the Thai Fried Rice.
Stopped here for lunch - everything was 10/10. The service was amazing, and our server was extremely friendly and attentive. The food came out quickly, and was extremely good. We got the spicy pad thai, the awesome noodles w/ shrimp, spring rolls, crab rangoons, and moon dumplings. We sat at the counter and the view is amazing. We definitely will be returning!
I came here to eat lunch with a friend because we read great reviews about how amazing and authentic the food here is. However, we left here feeling disappointed.
Lets start with the positives. The decor was nice and the papaya salad was good. It was citrusy, fresh, crisp, and had the makings of a tasty salad. I didn’t expect there to be romaine lettuce on there, but I’m guessing this is the Americanized rendition. I would have loved to see dried shrimp on the salad because that would have added another layer of crunch and saltiness that would have complemented well with the acidity of the dish.
Let’s move on to the mains. My friend and I both got the curries. I got a “special House curry”. I appreciate the amount of vegetables they had on the dish, and it was cooked thoroughly. The curry itself, however, was a tragedy beyond belief. It was watery, lacking in flavor and spices, and was just not an enjoyable meal to eat. Thai curries are typically rich, decadent, and a bit creamy, and this dish did not properly represent those profiles.
The server was also a bit cold to us, which did not help enhance our dining experience.
Would I recommend that you eat here? Absolutely not. There are plenty of other Thai restaurants in downtown New Haven that provide better food and hospitality. Frankly, the food served here is an insult to Thai cuisine.
In town for the school's family weekend. We waited a little for our table as we had 7 people in our party and didn't call for a reservation on a Friday night. Not too bad on the wait.
Food: very decent food. We ordered yellow curry with pork, red curry with beef, and pineapple fried rice with shrimp, and Thai ice tea. The beef is a bit over cooked but the rest of the food was delicious. The fried rice is my favorite. It has curry mixed in with the fried rice and gave a good flavor. The spicy level of the curry was just perfect for me. We ordered an extra serving of rice to go with the curry.
We left the restaurant satisfied with full stomached, and there was a line waiting for tables.
I used to love this spot! I would come in every other week. One day, they no longer offered the most items on the menu, and if they did they were increased by at least 20%. I ordered two custard buns- both were extremely chewy I felt like I was chewing a piece of gum or chewing bread and the custard part wasn't even warmed, a small amount of it was stuffed into one side of the bun.
And the next huge disappointment were the Thai fried wings. They be were oily and stuffed in a box. Then I was strongly recommended to the coconut cream pudding. I asked the quantity. I was told that one order contain 3-4 middle-sized bowls. The only good item that I would possibly go back for is the pineapple fried rice. I ate the chewy buns because I thought they were the original ones.
I spent over $40 I'm basically a pineapple fried rice. I have my receipt, and pictures of the food shown. I highly doubt that I will bring my business back. Instead I plan on telling my co-workers and showing them what I received for $40. I'm heating up the pineapple fried rice- it's extremely dry and has no distinct spices.
†*************If management would love to get ahold of me that would be great.
Koon Thai is my favorite Thai food in New Haven! The food always tastes really fresh, the people there are really friendly, and the take out is always packaged with consideration and comes neat and hot. I eat here all the time
Staff friendly and so cute
I ordered Pad ga pow with shrimp, it’s so tasty ☺️
Ordered in several times and the food was brilliant every single time. Decided to actually go to the restaurant in person and it was even better! Super fresh, nice wait staff and great service. Would return for sure.
The Pad See Ew is really good, so is the Thai Fried Rice.
It’s very good Thai food and authentic! I tried the Chicken Tom Yum soup and the best that I ever eat!
There was a Roach in the restaurant. Food was average
Heavily recommend!! Super good food, best crab rangoon I’ve had. Ever.
Delivery was fast….Food is Awesome!
Stopped here for lunch - everything was 10/10. The service was amazing, and our server was extremely friendly and attentive. The food came out quickly, and was extremely good. The best Thai food in New Haven.
I went here from Massachusetts to eat good Thai Food. I was greeted by a very nice waitress who pleasantly interacted with me. I asked, “Is this a nice place to eat?” “Absolutely,” she said. Ok… ordered Pad Thai- the food had plastic in it. I ate pad thai and it was gross and to boot there was this big piece of plastic bag or packaging… ugh what a waste of a trip. The waitress was nice about it though, she did not charge me for the pad thai- well thank God for that - I’d give it two thumbs down but that waitress was sweet and receptive. One thumb down, way down
Vegetarian food was absolutely delicious, but service was very slow. Restaurant could have been cleaner- I’m assuming there was a staffing shortage.
Delicious, tasty Thai food at a very reasonable price. The Thai ice tea and coffee and excellent. Great customer service as well.
I love this restaurant and- I mean this sincerely- it is the only thing that keeps me tethered to this godless place. In this terrible city, this hub of demonic energy, this parasitic wasteland that somehow invites me in, feigning host, only to suck the life from me, Koon Thai is a sanctuary: an oasis.
My boyfriend was feeling sick today and we shared their spicy Tom Yum soup, which proved that their food is not only delicious but also seems to have healing properties. I think if I gave a spoonful of their red curry to my grandmother, her dementia would go away. I have not had a single dish at this restaurant I didn’t love. It’s thanksgiving. I am grateful most of all for Koon Thai. god bless this restaurant and all the people who work here.
Really an amazing fabulous restaurant! We had an order for 20 people and they were extremely efficient and helpful with everything. The food is also genuinely so delicious
Interesting variety of Thai dishes with a variety of flavors. However, the menu lacks vegetables and light options- almost every dish is fried. Even the dishes that that said they had vegetables like the chili jam had only a couple of Brussel sprouts. I missed some of the more traditional Thai appetizers like dumplings and spring rolls... cute atmosphere, friendly service but menu needs some work.
This may be my favorite Thai food in the New Haven area! The three-color curry is a standout option to me, but all of the curries are hearty and indulgent. The space is dark and cozy, but on busy nights it can feel a little loud. One time I waited ~10 minutes longer than expected to pick up my food on a busy evening and they gave me a complementary Thai iced tea for my trouble.
The food hasn't changed since I've had it for the 1st time. It's STILL awesome. I've eaten several dishes from there, and what I like most is EVERYTHING! Even with there being so many different places to eat from Downtown, Koon Thai is a must. Enjoy all.
My ginger chicken fried rice was ok
The Thai chicken wings I don’t recommend
They are frozen and not fresh and no flavor
Ordered crispy fried tofu and Pad Thai. One guy there worked as cook, waiter and cashier. He served me with a zombie face, which I understandably forgave. The food was edible, which was the only good thing about this place.
I used to love this spot! I would come in every other week. One day, they no longer offered the most items on the menu, and if they did they were increased by at least 20%. Nice small place, got the Pad Thai Garlic it was amazing
Good Food 🥰
OMG the food is fantastic!
We went as a group of four about an hour before close they still let us in and order, food came out fast and was great, flavorful, well cooked, overall a great experience.
Great great place for Thai... Listen to the reviews
#TaraAndBobbyAdventures
We get Koon Thai CONSTANTLY because of the extensive vegetarian options. The Thai rice, basil rice, fresh veggie rolls, tom yum soup with tofu, vegetable soup with tofu, veggie dumplings, crispy fried tofu, drunken noodles and curry dishes are all in our rotation. So delicious. Always fresh. Generous portions. Can't recommend more!
They didnt remove the open availability from doordash, i placed and order, and minutes after, my order was cancel, because the store was close. I paid for the food, money was taken out from my card and now i have to wait from 6 to 14 business day so i could get the refund. They should be more carefull in handling doordash or uber eat.
Been ordering from Koon Thai for years. It’s one of the best Thai restaurants in Connecticut. Great food, veggie-friendly, and not overly greasy like other Thai places can be. Thanks for serving the community!
Yummy😘
Koon Thai is the best thai food in the east!!! Their noodles are out of this world. The service is outstanding. The owner kani is so sweet and very personable. She was so thoughtful to bring us thai teas on the house after we told her how amazing the food was. I will definitely come here again and everyone should come to Koon!!!! Highly recommend this thai restaurant!!! Owner definitely knows what she's doing and is very hardworking. Support small business!!! Also, the noodles are the best I've ever had in my entire life and I've had a lot of noodles!
Thank you,
Dani and Jessica
Complete impromptu. Came in here sat before Halloween. It’s byo with a liquor store next door. Sat at the bar facing the street and saw a great show. All three dishes were great!!
Had a great lunch at Koon Thai yesterday. The moon dumplings were delicious, and the curry was perfect. Quiet restaurant, great service, great food.
Food is alright if you budget an extra hour to wait for it
Everything was ok, nothing phenomenal but very dietary restriction friendly—in our group we had a nut allergy (at a Thai place I know), vegetarian and a gluten allergy. But we all got our food we’re happy.
Koon Thai is hands down the best Thai restaurant in New Heaven area. The place is nice and clean. The restaurant offers a variety of authentic thai dishes. Staff are very friendly. We will definitely be back :)
Objectively the besst Thai food in New Haven! Super tasty, fresh, not too heavy. My fav!
I have been to this restaurant recently. The best Thai Food I tried so far in Connecticut. Really, if you are in New Heaven don't miss the chance to try this place!
I tried Pork Shumai and Pad See Ew which were both delicious. The portions were good. Would recommend. However, it is not the best Thai food I ever had. It was slightly greasy!
I have been impressed with this restaurant and it’s staff having ordered in and through third party delivery. This curry has tremendous flavor and a great selection of spice to choose from. I have been and will continue to order from here.
I came here to eat lunch with a friend because we read great reviews about how amazing and authentic the food here is. However, we left here feeling disappointed.

The food wasn't flavorful, the service was ok
Koon Thai is the best option, hands down, for Thai/Chinese food in New Haven. I'm only sorry that it took my three years living here to find it. Compelled to write a review so others can avoid my mistake! Every Chinese or Thai place I have tried in New Haven, outside of those above my pay rate, are exceptionally bland, to a degree I can't understand. And none can do spice. Whenever I've ordered spicy food from any of these places, my "spicy" dish is interchangeable with my eight-year-old's "mild." Koon Thai is absolutely excellent--great flavor, good heat on the spicy dishes, very generous portions, and, as a vegetarian, I love that they have vegetarian and vegan options clearly listed. Tonight, the Koon kitchen made a mistake and one of the wrong dishes arrived in our takeout; not only did they make it right immediately--when I arrived to pick it up they had prepared two dishes to replace the one! Incredible, thoughtful service behind excellent food.
Awesome food
Great Thai food for lunch!
Koon Thai has THE best spring rolls! Their food is flavorful and fresh. They have plenty of vegan options. My favorite is their panang curry. I have taken friends and family here and everyone has loved it. Highly recommend!
I just LOVE when places are irritated about Food Allergies! 😃 I placed an order for delivery, got a notification that it was canceled. Called to ask why. The person who answered was clearly inconvenienced by my call/question and notified me a notification was sent before the cancellation (I still don’t see one anywhere).
Regardless, they explained that the items I ordered contained an allergen I listed. So I asked “Which friend rice doesn’t contain
Too late! I took my business elsewhere.
Great place for pickup and delivery(5stars). Best Thai place in town.
4 stars for dining in.
Really great service and food! Very fresh and friendly staff. Will come back for sure 😁
I used to really enjoy the shrimp pad thai from Koon Thai restaurant a few years back. Me and my sister would get it regularly. I recently ordered from there via Door Dash and I was very disappointed. I’d ordered the shrimp pad thai and it was gross. The shrimp tasted like defrosted frozen shrimp with no taste. The noodles were undercooked and had no flavor, I felt like I was eating cardboard. I had asked for chopsticks but these were not provided to me. I’d take my money and go elsewhere.
Food is amazing !!!!! But they hardly ever answer the phone, not sure if they are on door dash or Uber east. It always states they are closed on those apps.. Which is why I gave 4 stars and not 5.
Its a ok good place for lunch
The food was okay but the service was completely unacceptable. As someone who works in a restaurant, the man at the front of the house was completely rude and disrespectful.
My family and I greeted him with “hi, how are you?” He continued to ignore us as he took our orders and we were still kind to him. As we were eating we hear him shouting, cussing, and belittling the cooks. There was no music playing and it was a quiet Monday so you could clearly hear his verbal attacks toward them. It was the most disgusting thing to see or hear and I’m sure he was the manager
Not only was he disrespectful, but he was abusing his power especially as a white man and belittling the workers as they were people of color
The tofu was pretty good and so were veggie dumplings as well.
If you like wanting a tyrant at play and prefer terrible service, Koon Thai is the place for you.
Very poor customer service, the waiter was very rude when he took our order. Food was good otherwise. I wont come back again here.
Food was outstanding. The waiter provided an awkward & rude experience. Be kinder dude...you only had 3 tables.
Excellent vegan food selection. Serving is good for 2 people. They have variery of non vegan food. Delicious and authentic
The man that works the front counter is very rude! Every time I go in there to pick up an order he gives me an attitude or barely acknowledges my existence. Very bad customer service!
Absolutely delicious. Saved my marriage. The worker is a wizard.
Decent food! Sweet staff
Delicious! Try the steamed buns
The food is delicious! The serving is also great! The spicy level are well explained.
The owner is friendly and they make great smoothies/bubble tea drinks, and their fried rice dishes and stuff with peanut sauce is tasty too!
We ordered a take out last night and the food was delicious. Authentic Thai food just like what we used to have in Thailand. Definitely one of my favorite place for ethnics food. I would love to give them 10 stars if I could. I highly recommend this restaurant.
It's edible, but no where near the experience I've had at September in Bangkok. The bubble tea is the ONLY reason I'm giving it 2 stars. I think whoever is answering the google reviews is extremely unprofessional...
Awesome food!!! Fresh ingredients.
Ordered from here through Uber and they just literally canceled my order for no reason. Wow thanks! Guess I’m not having lunch today.
I think this might be one of my favorite restaurants in new haven. The food is always so good. Even delivery it came fast and was still hot.
Very clean restaurant, and very friendly staff, there is a very pleasant atmosphere here, I can not wait to make another drive back and visit again. The food was very delicious and the food it a great example of Authentic Thai cooking being that they show sweet, sour, salty, creamy, spicy and bitter this creates a very round dish which compliments the entire meal and is very delicious. Everything is very reasonably priced and very delicious, I would definitely recommend a Thai tea to anyone ordering. You guys are Awesome! Keep up the hard work, and thank you for making such an amazing meal.
Really good Thai food, definitely worth the visit, you guys are awesome!
Food is ok for the price but customer service is far from ok.
khao soi here is standout - the standard fare is quite good too, particularly the pad see ew
They have very good Thai food in New haven!!! Their papaya salad and Pad Thai is the best. The price is very reasonable. Love their lunch specials!!!
The white guy who works there always rude and discussing tone have some manners
Had tom yum noodle soup with shrimp, amazing flavor. Also 3 flavor curry with chicken, fresh nice flavors. Should have asked to make it spicy. Excellent
Thai food is really delicious but the food from this place is terrible. It was My first order from this place and it was just a waste .
Some of the best Thai food I’ve ever eaten, generous portion sizes and at a great price!!
The food is decent, but nothing to write home about. I have certainly had much better Thai food, but Koon Thai is reasonably good for the price and I really appreciate that you can adjust the spice level.
The reason I won't order from here again is the delivery time. I've ordered 2x from Koon Thai in the last month and both times the order has arrived in 1.5 hours+ (which was 45-60 minutes past the given delivery window). Really frustrating and disappointing.
This my second favorite thai place next to Thai Spice in Orange! I only get them thru Uber Eats so I can't review based on service due to the current pandemic situation. I like their pad se ew, and their fried tofu is TO DIE FOR.
Update: Visited there for the first time and probably will just stick to uber eats. The guy was unfriendly and did not understand my question and was abrupt and rude to this one customer that was waiting before me. The woman who gave me my food was really sweet, though.
Ordered through Uber Eats since there was no in-restaurant dining due to covid. The steamed buns were delicious and the main course (Pad See Ew) was an extremely generous portion. I only ordered it a level 1 spice, which it was, but wasn't quite as flavorful as I've had the dish at other places. That probably means it's healthier though with less sauce/fillers! Overall, an excellent meal and I'll be ordering again!
My pork dumplings were raw
Food is always good.
Food was delicious.
Fav spot in town. The owner and manager are super friendly. The lunch menu is ideal. They have gluten free options.
DO NOT EAT AT THIS PLACE !!! I went in for Thai ice tea on a hot day. There was no one in sight. I rang the bell and lady came out from the back. She did not smile, she did not greet me, she just looked at me. I made an order for two Thai ice teas and she stood there and demanded I pay before she we and got them. I asked her if she could go get the teas first and she refused, waved her arms at me and told me to get out. There was also a guy who worked there defending her unpleasantness. Now, I don’t know if race had anything to do with her behavior but I am black. Anyways, they don’t deserve anyone’s hard earned money. Just my opinion.
Chicken saray was light and spicy, not salty which I appreciate, delicious. Peanut and cucumber sauces for dipping are so good. Masaman curry outstanding, coconut sauce is exquisite, shrimp and vegetables were fresh. Love that nothing was salty or heavy. Highly recommended.
The massaman curry is delicious!!
Delicious Thai food at a good price
I have always been happy with the food and quality. Clean restaurant as well.
Consistent with other review the wait time is long. I ordered steamed chicken dumplings and Chicken Satay. Both were good. The satay portion was 4 very large skewers. It was a little on the dry side but good. The dumplings were okay, not overly flavorful and the dough was not too thick. I like a thinner dough but it was still okay. I could hear other customers complimenting their food so perhaps if I had been more hungry and tried an entree my experience would have been different. The menu has a good assist of vegetarian food options.
I thought this place was really quite good. Excellent steamed dumplings. The chicken pad Thai was also excellent. I asked for a spicy level of 5 which is called Thai. It's their highest level of spice. And it was indeed incredibly spicey. So spicy where it was almost unenjoyable. But I was able to get it down with about three carafes of water...lol!🌶️🔥🌶️🔥🌶️🔥🌶️🔥🌶️🔥
Many vegan options. Pad see ew without egg tasted amazing!
I ordered catering for a business lunch and the food was delicious and arrived right on time. Was so happy with the overall experience, will definitely be going to the restaurant.
Good food, great location
Excellent Thai food. Reason enough to have made my lunch stop in New Haven.
If you want to get your food after an hour wait, get the wrong dish, enjoy wet fried rice, be charged for your original and more expensive order, and finally be told that the "pork looks like the chicken" with no hint of an apology after you ask for the bill to be corrected, then this is the place for you! (Does this look like pork?)
I give it 10 stars. We were a large party who arrived bit by bit at a busy time. There was only one server, who did a most outstanding job. Food took a while to arrive.....but when it did it was excellent......dunno if I wanna recommend it or keep it for me and my friends
Spicy Korean Noodles are delish!
Horrible shrimp dumplings
In town for the school's family weekend. We waited a little for our table as we had 7 people in our party and didn't call for a reservation on a Friday night. Not too bad on the wait.
Food: very decent food. We ordered yellow curry with pork, red curry with beef, and pineapple fried rice with shrimp, and Thai ice tea. So I have no complants about dealing with these folks. Though I haven't exspieranced the food, they have been pretty normal to me this far, which is very appreshated. So I don't think what I have to ask next should reflect the rating.... I was hoping I could honestly request for you to change your name? I seen alot of different and imbiguos definitions on what Koon Thai can mean. . . Some diriviative of this or miss pronounsing of that ... But here in New Haven, with our downtown being a landmark of freedom ....I find it racest and hurtful. I do not see the irony or even repect the possible meanings in Thai or vietmese. It's untimly always and kinda hurtful. So please don't be offended into a stone. Please consider my request. Ty.
Verry good food and nice place
Serve some delicious thai food and friendly customers service.
Delicious fresh
Bubble tea is OK. I would go back and try their food in the future
Customer service was wonderful and food was excellent.
Food is amazing and so is the staff! Have been twice and loved everything I’ve tried (Garlic fried rice, spring rolls, moon dumplings, chicken dumplings, spicy Thai noodles, drunken noodles and tea) Wish I lived in New Haven, would be there once a week! Stopped in for the 2nd time yesterday and was remembered by extremely friendly staff. Must try if you are in the area looking for great food!
Not bad, but the taste could be better.
Excellent Pad Thai, and great options for vegans. Spicey Eggplant should have more eggplant than broccoli/carrots/etc., but it was very light on eggplant (lose a star).
BEST RESTAURANT IN TOWN
Delicious food. Great staff!
Great food; friendly cook!
Amazing thai place they have lunch menu too.
Great family run Thai restaurant! Great food, a favorite of my coworkers and myself. I was greeted and recognised after my second visit. They do a wonderful job.
This restaurant is excellent. Everything is customizable and clearly marked for dietary concerns, the food is great, and the people are amazing and friendly, and remember and greet you between visits. Come here frequently but maybe not frequently enough. Try the Thai twist drink!
Nice small place. The food could use just a bit more seasoning.
The only time I eat Thai is when I am in New Haven with my family, And Koon Thai is our place of choice. As others have said, it is a small place with a warm friendly staff and wonderful food. The food is always fresh, well seasoned, tasty and cooked to perfection. It is a nice family owned and operated business, which I am glad to support.
Use to order off Uber eats, but since the price hike my boyfriend and I decided we would go to sit in. The place is cute, everyones nice, cool front window seats, the food is always delicious, and it has the BEST thai tea, we've ever tasted. We recommend the red curry, crispy spring rolls, and the thai tea! It's so good we've never even tried anything else, we order it every single time.
Update: recommend the moon dumplings!
