By far my favorite Thai restaurant in CT. They are a real hidden gem and I highly recommend. The food is amazing , very reasonable pricing and the name fits perfectly. The owner is one of the friendliest people around. Overall a very wonderful experience.

I could taste and smell the fish sauce, which I love. It was not too sweet either. The woman that served us was very friendly and attentive but not at all overbearing.

EVERYTHING, I mean EVERYTHING, is good. You cannot go wrong with anything from the menu. Fried Calamari is so good, fresh, not stringy. The curries are real flavorful. Satays are always awesome. They are very accomodating with the spice levels too, so pick your battles! On weekdays, there are tons of people ordering to-go, as well as the General Dynamics facility - so you know I'm not the only one who loves this place.
TRUST, this is a good Thai spot.

I used to live in the area and got Friendly Thai religiously. It was the best Thai food I’ve had, and ever since moving away I’ve missed it.

Stopped by yesterday (8/9) to get take out (so sad there’s no more dine in but so glad it’s still open and thriving!) and was a bit disappointed. I got the spicy basil fried rice with chicken. The rice was VERY mushy. The flavor was amazing and tasted the same as I remember. It must’ve been an off night (I hope!) but it was sad to experience that for the one time I was back in town!

My friends and I went here for my friend’s birthday. He LOVES this place and everybody there is so friendly, especially the owner. The food was really good and it’s not very expensive either. Will definitely be back :)

My friend got hair in her food, I continued to go since the food was good. Then I got hair in my food. I was grossed out and threw the dish away but still thought “ok these things happen sometimes..” so I went back a 3rd time (stupidly), got the mango sticky rice, ate the entire dish and at the bottom of the bowl floating in the juices from the dish was what looked like hair clippings. I got the restaurant and received no help. Obviously wont be back but also encourage others to not go, clearly they are very unclean in the kitchen.

Friendly Thai is a class favorite of mine in the Groton area.
The food and atmosphere is top notch.
I have tried the wings, spicy basil chicken with noodles, and pineapple fried rice. Each is made to perfection. Never leave hungry.

They were already closed but Katoon still took my take-out order. Chicken Pad Thai was delicious. Dumplings were also!

This is one of my family’s favorite new takeout restaurants. The food is excellent, the service is friendly, and they are highly accurate. They are especially great with different food needs. One family member has a gluten allergy, and when something we ordered wasn’t gf, the staff was quick to recommend several other fantastic options. Highly recommended!

This business has new owners as of March 2024. The menu prices have increased slightly, and they now offer dine in seating.

I have ordered takeout and had the pleasure of dining in. The staff has been really kind and the menu has some dishes that are new to me in a Thai restaurant.

There has been a steady trend of improvement since it reopened. It may not be exactly the same as the old management and menu, but I think it's worth checking out.

The new ownership this year has sent an already pretty good Thai place into absolute orbit. My staple is the spicy basil noodles, spice 4, no bell peppers no green beans add broccoli (I know I know) and my order is basically already in when I’m walking through the door. The curries are phenomenal (I’m especially partial to the red and panang) and their tom yum soup is soul-healing. I alternate between a Thai iced tea and iced coffee and both are stellar.
The woman who runs the front of the house is so kind and friendly, and the food is so top notch, I’ll be a loyal customer for as long as I live in the area. Definitely the best Thai food from new London to stonington.

The absolute best Thai food in the area hands down. We were visiting family in Groton and came back three times within a week. Delicious!

So so happy to have Friendly Thai back and running! While under new ownership the food is just as great and I recommend that anyone interested in Thai food give this place a shot!

Enjoyed 3 appetizers, a soup and a few stir fry dishes with friends. We were very pleased with the flavors as well as the quality and quantity of the food. A lovely couple own and operate. We hope to return soon!

The spicy seafood basil noodles is the best Thai noodles I've had since I left Los Angeles 7 years ago. The noodles, mollusks, and vegetables are all cooked so very perfectly and if you're honest about the heat you want they deliver.

They also have cute li'l prints of the building on the receipt and takeout bag, which is just delightful.

I am not one known for leaving reviews, however, for this I made an exception. This is one of the best Thai resturants I have ever had. The owners are very friendly, respectful, and kind. The food is absolute heaven, the prices are low, the quality high, and the portions large.

The civility and professionalalism of this establishment is top tier. Anyone looking for healthy, tasty, quality food and a wonderful atmosphere, this is the place for you.

I have had food here 3 times since the new owner has opened. Excellent all 3 times. The chive cakes are fantastic. Thai basi fried rice level 4 is spicy and delicious if you can handle it. My wife is a vegan and they gladly accommodate her. I would 100 percent recommend this place. They have added boba and other tasty teas to their menu as well. Just excellent over all

Friendly Thai closed a few months ago. They re-opened under new ownership with a new menu & staff. This isnt the friendly thai that earned a high rating; be warned. Old Friendly Thai was a 10 out of 10.

Authentic Thai food with an abundance of flavor. One of my favorite spots to stop at if I am feeling anything Asian. Only downside is that their inside has been closed since COVID so no dine in. Other than that amazing.

Everything here is great. Portions are great for price and quality is excellent with perfect amount of seasoning. Takeout orders are always correct and pickup times are always accurate, never left waiting. Must try the thai iced tea!!!

This place is absolutely amazing. The ONLY problem is that they had some issues with their kitchen hood and had to close down temporarily for repairs. I have been waiting patiently calling just about every week waiting for them to pick up the phone and announce that they’re open. I have been let down every week. Friendly Thai, when will you be opening up again?? I have money I want to give to you in exchange for delicious food!

Fantastic Food!

I love the mango curry with the spice level of 0 stars (I can't deal with much spiciness). Portions are just right for the value. Pre-pandemic, I'd have it every Tuesday, presently I pick it up when I get the craving and always have friendly service.

I am a regular customer of Friendly Thai and they never cease to amaze me. Today I ordered the Basil Sauce and it was absolutely wonderful!!! Typically a curry eater, the green curry has always been my go to, but with Friendly Thai I feel comfortable in branching out and trying new dishes. I have always enjoyed every thing they make. Good, filling, and friendly, what more could you ask for? Thank you Friendly Thai!!!!

All I've eaten there are their curries and all have been really good. Today it was pineapple chicken. I made the personal mistake on my first visit of getting my curry with 'two peppers' of heat. That was too much for me. Subsequent visits I get 'one pepper' and it's fine and I can still taste the food which by the way is really good. Staff are all very friendly hence the name I suppose. If you like Thai food you should give this one a try.

Pad Thai is really good. Warning, the spicy levels aren't like taco bell spicy levels, they're actually pretty spicy. I use 2.

Good food and portion size. They have spice level from 1-5. So if you like spicy get 5. I got Thai Spicy Basil Noodles with 4 spice level, it was good but not as spicy as I was expecting for 4.

Tried it for the first time today and I’m very impressed. I ordered the massama (not sure of spelling) curry with crab meat and it was delicious. I will definitely return and recommend to others.

Very disappointed. Great reviews claim its authentic Thai but it was terrible. Everything drenched in Mae Ploy (sweet chili sauce) Even the pad thai.

They have real spicy levels, not ‘watered down for Americans’ spicy levels. I ordered five on a scale of five and I was pretty much on fire, but pleasant fire. Very delicious and I appreciate the spice level. I was craving spicy at the time.
I had the pineapple fried rice which was very good. Also the pumpkin curry my friend got was also very good

The food here is very good and the value is 2nd to none. The curry rolls are one app you dont see that often and my favorites (spicy basil noodles and penang curry 4 stars) are fantastic. So why 4 stars. Sometimes the service is spotty. Everyone is pretty nice, just under resourced during some of the lunches. I have not had dinner here but usually do lunch and take out. A favorite of mine to be sure.

And i was about to be overcharged by about 10 bucks. Honest mistake perhaps. I caught it. Wasn't charged. The general thai chicken is so worth it! Great sized portion.

I’ve eaten a lot of Thai food from many different restaurants, and I must say that Friendly Thai is by far the best! We usually order our food for takeout since the restaurant is small. One of my favorites is the pad sukiyaki. My boyfriend loves the curry. The portions are good sized and priced well.

This place has great food and pretty good portion sizes! The inside restaurant is a little too cramped for us to want to dine in but we do carry out often. Their menu is hard to find online but there's a big selection when you do find it. There's another thai restaurant in Groton called Thai Sawasdee that has a full online menu and a website that allows you to order online. The full menu really helps and online ordering is really convenient so I wish Friendly Thai offered a website AT LEAST (with a menu) because we prefer their food over the other place. Just a suggestion. :)

Me and my Guy friend was spending the weekend in the area. Looking for some grub. He wanted Thai. This place had good reviews. We are black from Boston and NYC. When we walked it it was "Get Out" Weird". The town was very quiet at 930PM. I knew I was not going to like it. Very small resturant. Friendly service. The food was made to order and Pretty good. Food came out piping hot and fresh. I had the sticky wings. They were awesome and my Guy had the mango salad that he absolutely loved. Great bring home portions at a great price. Oh you must try the coconut icecream with banana it was so gooood!

The place is small, only a few tables, so you might end up waiting at certain times although it was mostly empty when we ate there on a Monday evening.

The food is good and they serve large portions when it comes to entrees but the appetizers are just that. There was one waitress and she was above average in promptness and professionalism.

The place is clean. It's quiet. The decor is interesting. The menu isn't expansive. It really just focuses on giving all the basics of Thai cuisine which likely helps them provide better quality entrees.

Very good thai. I recommend the drunken noodles (3 or more spice), the pad thai if you like it fishy/authentic, the pineapple curry, or the house special fried rice.
