Takeout Review:
Somewhere in Bangkok is an authentic Thai restaurant located in Connecticut. They have locations in Avon and Southington. Thai food is typically very flavorful; they use multiple spices and fresh ingredients to bring out the salty, sour, sweet, hot and bitter flavors.
They have a vast menu with plenty of options and spice levels. They also offer boba tea drinks. It was a cold and rainy day so we decided to do takeout from there. I am usually a pad Thai or curry dish lover, it's my go-to, but decided on the chicken Pad See Ew this time around to mix it up. It's a stir fried flat rice noodle dish with broccoli, eggs, garlic, and soy sauce. The portion size was average and the flavor was robust.
Next time, I look forward to trying out their pad Thai, panang curry, sweet chili wings, and panang fried rice, to name a few. Overall, it's a great Thai restaurant offering quality ingredients and delectable flavors.
A beautiful setting, a simple but elegant dining room, and great food.
Went here on an accidental Friday night date night and it was perfect.
The food was fresh & flavorful, and the fresh Bruce Cost ginger ale a unique touch that I enjoyed. It is so hard to choose which meal to eat. I could eat there daily! We had the spring roll, edamame, Pad Prik King, and the Bangkok Fried Rice. So satisfying!
For me, dining out is a chance to escape. To lose yourself in the culinary vision and artistry of someone, in this case Chef Chanya “Tookie” Siboriboun. This food isn’t just pushed out of a busy kitchen. It is meant to be enjoyed and to give you a window into the food of Thailand that Chef Tookie loves. Be sure to the check the video out. https://youtu.be/unsfIq9mhgI?si=4DE1UxFdBRp_fV4T
Great first impression from my first visit for lunch. We had Bangkok fried rice and Ginger shrimp. They handled my wife's gluten free request very seamlessly. It was all plated very nicely and tasted great. I will definitely go back, try other items and see if they can earn a five star rating!
We had great lunch here. The chicken wings is the best I had in my life! So flavorful and tender. I ordered spicy ramen noodle I thought it’s a soup noodle but it is a stir fry. The picture food I have is angry chicken. Very good meal! Great service and not crowded. Highly recommended place.
Let me start by saying, im an idiot. I called in an order and went to pick it up at 8:55pm, thinking they close at 10pm. I walk in, Madison the manager says “can I help you?”, I proceed to tell her I’m there to pickup my order. “Ummm, are you serious?”, replies Madison, to which I then realize I called their Southington location!!! 🤦♂️ here’s the point of the review, Madison offered to make the bobas, then checked with the kitchen and they were more than ok making the food, even after the kitchen had closed 5 minutes earlier. I love their food, Laotian cuisine is amazing, and I hope to try the whole menu soon. Incredible hospitality, ask for Madison, she’s the best! Can’t recommend this place enough, get the curry puffs and khao soi.
My wife and I got take out from this restaurant, they did not disappoint! Everything was delicious, and even some of the fried items were still hot and crunchy when I got home, great spot, we will be returning for dinner for sure!
Love waitress Maddy

Worst experience ever. Wife and I walked in and I had to look for someone to seat us. My meal was a bowl FULL ot fried wontons with a small amount of seafood, a large amount of sauce, really gross. Then our waitress was outside talking with someone and I had to go and get her to get the check. Never again !
Excellent Thai food!
Very unprofessional … they made us sit for 30 mins and then asked if we want to cancel because the food will take another 15 mins.

I like the food here really good

We ordered the Pad Thai with tofu and it gave us food poisoning, hate to post this review but it did.
Great place best Thai cuisine!
The appetizers we ordered were tasty. We got the summer rolls and crab bag. Definitely will order that again. Also tried the Tom yum goong soup and pho. Will come back and try other foods here 😊
Average food at best. Ordered 4 entrees and no one really loved their food.
I hate leaving poor reviews, and the service was fast and helpful, pricing was fair. But I have to say the food was disappointing. We’ve had great authentic Thai in many cities and countries, and so many positive reviews had us optimistic. Maybe we just hit them on a bad night, but across the board everything was lacking in the rich, complex flavors we usually enjoy. To be fair we didn’t order any curries like we usually do, and maybe those are good, but the Tom Kha Gai, pad thai and other dishes were all lacking.
Best Green Curry I’ve had in a long time!! Thanks so much for the yummy dinner! Feeling well nourished! 🙏💚

Wonderful Thai food. Will definitely come back.
I work in the same plaza. I love coming here. The food is always great. I had the whole fish in garlic sauce. It was very filling and delicious!
Wait staff always check in for more water, because I ordered Level 5 spiciness, which was a thrilling experience.
Dishes are somewhat expensive, but this is a neat spot to treat yourself every now and then. And, they offer discounts if you like them on Facebook or follow them and post on Instagram :) Though, I did wish that the rice size were bigger. I'll attached the Bai Ka Praw I ordered here.
One time I showed up very late and they are starting to close. But, a staff welcomed me in and made me the boba I was craving.
Best!!!
This is the best Thai food. Staff here is very nice. We had a good time. Not sure if they allow people without masks. Some places are still restricted. Food was excellent. So was the staff. We will come back soon. Best
Every single time I go here, the food is fantastic and the service is great - both for dine-in or takeout. I decided to try the curry puffs for the first time, and they were delicious!! The Pad thai and green curry my girlfriend and I got last night was delicious as well - just the right amount of flavor and spice.
The star is because the food was genuinely very good. Unfortunately, we found 2 hairs in our meal. And the waitress was extremely overwhelmed and was not trying to hide it at all, she was literally running around and sighed and rushed through any simple request, which made for a really uncomfortable experience. Every table in the front was not cleared and full of old dishes for the entire time we were there. Plus the toilet was clogged.
Spectacular food. Will do business again.
Mid
First time eating here and most certainly won’t be my last… Had the worst day I’ve had in months so I thought I’d treat myself to a nice spicy panang curry. The curry was flavorful, perfectly hot, and they even left a little gift for me in the bag. It’s the little things like that that really take it to the next level for me. Thanks guys, my day just got better.
This is one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. Super clean. Very friendly. Very accommodating.
Great food (pad thai and pho are great) and good service. Small indoor dining space that’s never too busy. And some of the best boba tea in the area!
Amazing food
Friendly staff
Very huge selection of menu items. Service was good and so was food. Many gluten-free, vegan and veggie options for a Thai restaurant. Went to the Avon location.
Food is clearly canned and frozen ingredients, not worth the price or your palate
Amazing food! Best Thai in the Canton area. Super fresh. Always able to accommodate my dietary restrictions. 👌
The waitress was very nice and I felt bad for her. Our bad experience was not her fault.
We waited over an hour for our appetizers. On a cold windy day the restaurant's front door had to remain open so we all ate in our jackets. Without the door being open the area we sat in filled with smoke.
I genuinely had a bad time and couldn't wait to leave.
Excellent Thai food with very pleasant service. Enjoy authentic Asian cuisine in this very splendid atmosphere. Loved this place and will certainly come back.
I have gotten takeout from the Avon location of Somewhere in Bangkok several times. I am OBSESSED with their Mango Curry! There are plenty of other Thai restaurants around, but none of the others compare with the flavor, heat, quantity, and price you get from this place. My whole family has been impressed with the food. If you haven’t tried Somewhere in Bangkok yet, do yourself a favor and get some! Especially if you are a fan of curry!
1st time trying this place with my sister, I’m very picky when it comes to Pad Thai, yet come to my surprise it was delicious where I ate the bowl clean.
And had to try their boba tea, I got the Rose and Green Tea with bobas(even had some rose petals 🌹 ) . Hands down yummy!
There’s another branch in Southington besides Avon. Give it a try ✨
We have loved the Somewhere in Bangkok that is in Southington for years and it has always been our favorite Thai spot, so we were excited to see they came to Avon since it is more convenient for us. The food here was just as excellent as the original location, fresh, flavorful and beautiful on the plate! And the service was great as well. We wish we lived closer so we could eat here more often!
Their ube tea is amazing
Amazing thai food . I tried the basil fried rice and red curry which was amazing.
Fresh, tasty, clean food. Tops.
Loved it, one of the best
Food was really good, service is very slow, bubble tea was amazing..
By far the best Thai food I’ve ever had. The angry chicken was perfectly crispy with tons of flavor. Will definitely be returning as often as possible.
Came here with my wife and we loved everything we ordered.
Highly recommend coming in and trying something new!
Love Thai food and was excited to hear of their opening a 2nd location in Avon. First dinner out with a friend 2 weeks ago on a Sunday evening was exceptional. Maddy our server couldn't have been more helpful and attentive. Great recommendations on everything we ate for our first visit.
After nearly 2 years of COVID isolation, met 2 friends for dinner last night here at my suggestion. They were so impressed with both the food and service that they can't wait to return. My friend Theresa even said she had a list of folks she want to bring there! Shared the french fried green beans, crab fried rice (Yum!), and 3 entrees including Phuket Fantasy. I had the Honey Shrimp on my first visit.
Have the menu and when lazy will place a take out order.
Welcome to Avon and wishing you much success!!
Food was great but service was sssllooooowww at every stage. We sat for twenty minutes waiting to place our order, and the summer roll appetizer took another 20 minutes to arrive. We left the place 100 minutes after arrival, and only because I went to the checkout counter myself to avoid waiting for the tab.
Fresh ingredients, wonderful flavors, excellent service.
This place is amazing!!! I’m bummed I didn’t know about this place earlier. The service was great, everyone is really nice and the food and drinks are SO good. My new favorite place! We sat inside but it looks like they have outdoor seating too. The menu has a ton of options. Cant wait to come back here!
I like this location more than Southington. We sat on the patio and it was really nice with good spacing between tables. I had the Phuket Fantasy and it was sooooo good! I'm salivating just thinking about it. The sauce was delicate and lightly sweet and paired so well with the light, clean rice and the portion was perfect. We got a pot of tea and it was the perfect temperature. There is something for everyone here from vegetarian to carnivore and from picky eater to foodie. I think we might be back tonight. Also, the Crispy Wonton Pad Thai is always good. I believe it is BYOB still.
The food was great and the bubble tea was amazing. The pictures came out great as well and a lot of people asked me for the location to try this place out!
Absolutely LOVED this place! My sisters and I went there for lunch today and not only was the food the best Thai food I've ever had, but their prices were very fair and the portions are quite large! Will Absolutely be going back!
Wow! So happy to finally have good Thai food in Avon! Just had it for the first time today and it’s now my go to… best I’ve had in a long time, excited to have it again. Had several different dishes between 3 of us and we all loved it. Far better than all others in town
This was the first time we purchased takeout from here. The chicken pad thai and shrimp pad thai were good. However, the same cannot be said for the large size veggie tofu soup and for the vegie tofu pad see-ew. Both were unsatisfactory. The soup was supposed to include clear noodles. There were no noodles in the soup! It did not have the flavor of a well made broth. This was a $12.95 disappointment. The veggie tofu pad see-ew was basically a salty stir fry of vegetables and tofu. I was shocked by the small portion of flat rice noodles in this dish. I would never recommend this dish to anyone. I feel if you are going to charge for a dish, put all the ingredients into it, otherwise do not offer it on your menu. Do it the right way!
The service was great and i thourougly enjoyed the Strawberry Tea i got. However, i had the chicken satay and i was not that impressed. The quality of the chicken was good but the flavor was pretty bland and the portion of the cucumber salad it come with is very small. I also got the eggrolls and they have a funky flavor. Their prices are also a little too high. It's not bad by any means but the flavors just aren't for me. I expected better after all these raving reviews. I think I'll stick to my normal Thai place down the road.
I want to start of saying I don’t really post reviews, but couldn’t help it this time. This place was a great find. This is our second time in a week. The first time was awesome! We had the dirty edamame which was sooooo good. Then we had the spicy ramen noodle and the mixed vegetables in garlic brown sauce. We thought we must have picked the best dishes on the menu because they were so good. Came back today and HAD to get the edamame again, and tried the calamari. Super
Crispy with a nice sweet and spicy sauce. The entrees we got were Crispy Lad Na and Chicken got Mad. OMG!! If every dish is this good we are going to have to try the whole menu. The owner, Tookie, is so sweet and stopped by to introduce herself and we chatted. She is SO passionate about from scratch cooking, and you can tell it in the food. As a Chef myself, all I can say is BRAVO. This is definitely a new favorite and we hope everyone in Avon / Simsbury comes to love it as well.
