Longt time waiting, i do not recommend for this place if you are not patient they told me to wait 5 minutes but it was not actually 5 minutes waiting !!!!

Diner Review №23

Best Thai ever don't go here because I don't want to wait for a table and be in a restaurant filled with hipsters.

Diner Review №25

I had heard good things about this place and gave it a try. I got chicken pad Thai which was pretty bland. The chicken wings were very dry but sauced well. The Tom yum soup wasn’t anything special. I’m bummed out because I’d been hyped up about this place. There are really good Thai places in SF. I likely won’t be back to this one. Still worth trying as every person has different tastes for food:)

This review is about the Irving Location

Diner Review №26

disgusting food, terrible service. extort tips! I tip when I like it, not when I pay $41 for slop
the meat is tough, impossible to chew. we asked for dessert, they brought us a flatbread that smelled terribly with a hot sauce

Diner Review №28

Diner Review №29

Great Thai restaurant in the Sunset. Started with the Thai ice tea which had a great ratio of sweetness. The angel wings came with more wings than I anticipated which was great. Highly recommend those 2 at the start. Then I got the beef curry which has the softest beef I had. Would recommend to share this item and possibly try and get another item off the menu. Great service

Diner Review №30

I love Thai food and this is not that. The food was flavorless and the sauces runny. I ordered Roti appetizers which were dripping in oil and had a sauce that was runny and over sweet. Also had Pad Krapow which was really just wok fried vegies with no flavor at all. Finally, had mango salad which was bathed in over -sweet sauce and included an odd mixture of ingredients. The place is okay to look at and the service is fine. But the food is mediocre Chinese fare, not Thai. Very disappointed.

Diner Review №31

This is one of my go to Thai places but this time I tried their weekend special Hor Mok(steamed snapper) which was recommended to me by the staff. Very disappointed with the amount of snapper for a $23 dish. That dish has very less amount of fish and is mostly cabbage and curry.

Taste - 5/5
Quantity - 2/5

Diner Review №32

Just moved to the neighborhood and trying our way through the local spots. Ordered the pad see ew, red curry with chicken, cucumber salad and imperial rolls.

Generally was really greasy/heavy—wont go item by item but I’d skip for other local Thai places in the neighborhood that are more fresh and bright.

Diner Review №33

This is a busy restaurant for good reason. The food is very good. The staff is very attentive. The prices are very reasonable.

I wish I could add more stars. But they can't do any curry dish wothouth fish sauce. SO- Vegans be careful !!

Diner Review №38

Good Thai food coupled with rude service. The lady who showed us to our table was impatient and discourteous- we had a disabled person with us along with two people who were vegan. Took forever to get acknowledged; finally she rudely said “no we can’t substitute with tofu” and was very unaccommodating. We simply left.
In previous visits the Goong Sarong are well made (shrimp bacon in Thai chili sauce). Same goes for their Tom Ka soup- you cannot go wrong with anything here. Sadly the service needs to improve. A lot.

P.S. per the owner's response: this incident happened some months ago (last summer) and we had logged it on our other google account. It was during mid-week (Wednesday or Thursday) and the lady we dealt with was a middle aged Asian lady; medium height with dark hair.

Diner Review №39

Hot cakes are melt-in-your-mouth wonderful. Curry isn't usually my favorite but the green curry here was so good with just a bit of heat. And the desert with mango is also mouth watering.
My sister would come here everyday
And don't forget the Imperial rolls which are fresh and delicate not greasy.

Diner Review №42

Diner Review №43

Everything about this was perfect. Everyone was so welcoming, food was delicious, the interior is beautiful

Diner Review №44

Been coming to this Marnee since the 1980s and it remains a great, authentic place to enjoy traditional and unique Thai food made by a great family. The interior hasn’t changed much and has pictures of the owners and their travels and the people that they’ve met along the way. The service is very attentive and the food comes out fairly fast. We recently ordered to go and food was ready in less than 10 minutes! The traditional dishes like pad thai and Tom yum soup have a great depth of flavor (it’s all in the sauces and seasonings!) that I have not had at any other place. The corn cakes are so good! The curries and stir fried dishes like chicken and mint and sweet and sour tofu are sublime. I recommend this to anyone looking for great Thai food. This restaurant has been around for decades for a reason! Thank you Marnee!

A neighborhood classic with excellent flavors. Nice service. The dining room could use a refresh but overall a good experience.

Good, quick service and most of the menu can be made gluten free.

Diner Review №54

Good food, great service, good atmosphere

Diner Review №55

Diner Review №56

While the menu acclaims a number of accolades from decades-past, the taste is a bit underwhelming, the atmosphere a bit dated.

Pad See Eew tasted of brown sauce only, with watery, soft-boiled broccoli thrown in at the last minute. Likely better prepared elsewhere — especially given the price point.

Noticeable swarm of gnats in the dining room, not good. Spice tray served in tiny plastic capsules, no fun and limiting.

Diner Review №60

I had lunch here today for the first time. The Satay Wraps were absolutely amazing, which I rarely say about most places. The atmosphere was really cool too. It almost felt like I was in another country.

Diner Review №61

Food is ok, service is not good. You can feel the tension and no wonder they are closed Wednesday’s now. It’s a hostile environment for the workers we had a miscommunication on our order and you could hear the manager arguing with the servers trying to force the servers do force the order on us. Sad horror environment.

Diner Review №62

It's my second time to eat at Marnee Thai. First time was last year on a week night when it wasn't too busy. This time, there was a line because of the night market. Didn't take too long to get seated.

We ordered the Tom Ka with chicken, the roasted duck, and pad kee mao. A lot of food for 2, but we really did enjoy everything.

Food is so flavorful! My partner has been eating here since be was in middleschool and the quality has not changed.

Diner Review №63

Diner Review №64

Worst food ever. YUCK.
Uncooked food and uncooked manners.
Old lady blabbering that she don't understand English but she knows what she faked.
If you want to taste fake food, best place to taste.

Diner Review №65

Vegetables are uncooked

Diner Review №66

Our favorite Thai spot in Sf . Recommend the Papaya salad and crab fried rice.

Diner Review №67

Hands down, best service you could ask for. Team players, attention to detail, and care for your needs. Delicious food, as well.

Diner Review №68

Great food and service.

Diner Review №69

I've eaten at this Marnee Thai a few times over the years and have never been real impressed with it. My most recent dinner there was quite underwhelming, as the food was very lackluster ("boring"), and it came in microscopic quantities. The sizes of the appetizers were especially small, and not at all worthy of the high prices.

Diner Review №70

Diner Review №71

Diner Review №72

Despite being understaffed, they have some fast, constant service that prevents you from having one second without food on your plate. This is a nice, beautifully decorated restaurant, but in my opinion could have some more gusto in the presentation of their food (especially their “award-winning” dishes) that would help them become more appealing. In terms of food, I personally found it rather hit-or-miss. Their papaya salad and Tom kha soup had an oddly strong and pungent taste, while I found the satay rather bland (though mixing the satay sauce with sweet sauce made it better). However, there were also several positive dishes, like an impeccable and spicy Pad Kee Mao, some interesting green curry (I loved the eggplants), an outstandingly flavorful Pad Prig Pao, and fresh Imperial rolls with a brilliantly made sauce. Improvement is possible and very attainable for this cute restaurant in San Francisco.

Diner Review №73

My sister and I got the coconut stir-fried noodle meal, chan pad poo, and the roti appetizer here for dinner and it was all amazing! The portions are very generous as well, we both were able to take home half the meal with full stomachs. Highly recommend! I wish I lived in the area so I could come back again!

Diner Review №80

Delicious Thai food! The hot coconut cakes and mango sticky rice were particularly good. Also, the hor mak is this delicious, rich snapper "curry mouse" that I highly recommend.

I thought their pad see ew and pad kee mao weren't that good--a bit too sweet and oily (very "Americanized") and the wide rice noodles didn't have any crispiness to them, but some people might enjoy that.

Diner Review №81

Diner Review №82

This restaurant was packed and busy when we went. They have small indoor seating area. The food was really good and was just the right amount of spicy. Super friendly and attentive staff.

Diner Review №83

Great tasting 😋

Diner Review №84

Local hole-in-the-wall restaurant with white table cloth dining...always an extra ☆☆ for me! Food is fresh and tasty, service is attentive.

Diner Review №85

Diner Review №86

Unique and good flavors. The klua kling is great if you like spicy food.

Diner Review №87

This used to be one of the best Thai restaurants in SF for many years. But this last visit indicates how far they have fallen over the years, we had Tom yum soup, angel wings, green curry chicken and the pad Thai. The Tom yum was very watery and had no depth while the angel wings were tough and dry. The green curry was thin and watery with little flavor. The only saving grace was the pad Thai which was good but not great. Very disappointing for this once landmark Thai restaurant!

Diner Review №88

Diner Review №89

Diner Review №90

My wife and I had dinner here, and I'm not sure why there would be any bad reviews of this place. I haven't had this authentic of Thai food since leaving Thailand. She had Tom Kah gai, and I had Pad Kra pao. It might not have been holy basil, but the rest of the recipes were spot on. Service was very friendly and the food was hot and fast. Plus who doesn't love Thai tea. Thank you for a wonderful meal.

Best Thai in the Sunset...

Diner Review №105

The staff was very friendly and quick, but the food was very bland. It did not taste like real Thai food. Not enough chicken or vegetables at all in the dish.

Diner Review №106

Diner Review №107

We have been going to Marnee since 1997. It has never disappointed and never lost its wonderful Thai uniqueness.

Diner Review №108

I’m really confused as to why this place only has a 4.2 rating (at time of this review). Thai food is my absolute favorite cuisine & I think that this is the best Thai food I have had in all of California. We got the roti with peanut curry sauce, mango chicken fried rice, beef pad see ew, and Hor Mok.

The roti was a beautiful appetizer & the curry sauce was slightly more runny than anticipated but had a fantastic flavor nonetheless. I don’t think I’ve ever had mango fried rice & it was really good but the mango did not add much to the dish, in my opinion. The pad see ew had a wonderful flavor & I loved the amount of egg they put in it. And finally wow the hor mok!!! I had never had this dish but I was very impressed by the banana leaf presentation and the flavor of the snapper & curry mousse was really good, especially over the fried rice.

Unfortunately my acid reflux was acting a fool so I didn’t try any of the spicy dishes which I hear this place is known for but all of the above were not spicy but were extremely flavorful. I will definitely be coming back next time I’m in SF, and hopefully I’ll get to try the coconut hotcakes if they’re still on the seasonal menu. This place is Michelin starred for a reason, try it!!

Diner Review №109

We had a great meal here. It is small and you might have a wait, but staff was friendly and efficient and the food was delicious. We especially enjoyed the Beef Salad, unique Chicken Satay Wraps and Pumpkin Curry.

Diner Review №110

Best tea leaf salad in San Francisco

2022 edit: still a very decent Thai restaurant and one one my favorites in the city, but after not having their tea leaf salad on the menu for over year, it’s finally back, but is a shadow of its former self. The salad used to be spicy, crunchy, funky, and fresh. Now it has a sweet, generically citrusy flavor and a soggier composition.

Food was decent at best. Recommended for a cheap eat if you have no dietary restrictions. The service could’ve been better, as we were vegetarian there was a lot of back and forth to confirm if everything non vegetarian was removed and in the end there was still fish sauce. Would’ve been great to have clarity on the menu items.

Diner Review №133

Used to travel to thailand very frequently..My friend brought me to this place and I ordered pad thai, friendly service aside, this is the worst pad thai I ever had in my life. So sweet, lack of flavours..not spicy at all. This is my first thai food in SF and this meal made me never want to try any thai food here anymore. It ruined the name of thai food, too americanised.

Diner Review №152

Visited on a weekend. Ordered their Samosas, Avocado Mango Salad which were good.Pad Thai Noodles and Green Curry were okay.
The place is small and the staff asked for vaccination proof.

Diner Review №153

This branch of Marnee Thai has identical menu as the one of 9th/Irving. The staff take great care of maintaining low density and hygiene indoor. The food was good here, but the 9th/Irving branch definitely serves more tastier version of Chan Pad Poo. This branch made it a little bit on the spicier side which takes away the subtle complexity of this delicate crab-meat preparation.

Diner Review №154

I've been coming to this location since I was a kid. Maybe 8 or 9 years old. Never have I ever been disappointed in the food, service, or atmosphere. Im 41 now, and ill keep coming here until one of us doesn't exist anymore lol. Get the angel wings.

Diner Review №155

Diner Review №157

Diner Review №158

There is a reason Marnee is so iconic. There are dishes on the menu that I have only seen available in Thailand, never on U.S. menus. Exquisite flavors. Blessed that multiple Sunset locals have brought me here to dine. It's the best. The staff are sweethearts.

Diner Review №159

Diner Review №160

The food met the expectations of a four star restraunt. Fast and friendly service. Ambiance was good, smelled a little off putting.

Diner Review №161

Best Thai in SF!!!! The coconut hot cakes were off the hook-definitely get them. We want to go back once weekly for the rest of our lives

Diner Review №162

Very nice ladies there. Food always excellent have not been disappointed. The last time I went to pick up my order the went and got me a thai tea on the house!

Diner Review №163

Best Thai restaurant in SF. Try Sunset location.

Diner Review №164

I love it the food is great the service is excellent and always go there I'm being going there for the last 15 years

Diner Review №165

All salt & no spices nor flavor.

Diner Review №166

Amazing food! We got lunch to-go and ate it at Golden Gate Park which is only a block or two away. The angel wings and tom ka soup were the best I've ever tasted! The staff is very nice and friendly as well. Would recommend to anyone!

Diner Review №167

This is the best thai place in San Francisco! I have come here numerous times and I still crave it. My favorite dish hands down is the Pad Kee Mao with beef! It's so bomb digityyyy. It's a spicy flat noodle dish with basil, tomatoes and a bomb sauce. I'm probably not giving it any justice with my description, but if you're looking for a dish, trust that is the best. They also have really good hot sauce that is on the table that I absolutely LOVE. It's like fish sauce with spice in it and it's a little sweet. You have to try it for yourself.

The service is pretty good! They always seat everybody in the order they've arrived. Sometimes it can get a little busy and I think they're pretty organized with good customer service. :)

Diner Review №168

We called in a reservation, though I'm not sure they ever get written down. The place is just too chaotic for that. For the Friday after Christmas, it was packed beyond imagination. People were spilling onto the street, camping three (or more) at tiny two top tables, it was loud and totally CRAZY and it was INCREDIBLE!!!!!!! It was a total scene and, if you don't like that, don't go. At least not on a busy night. Mae is a true force of nature. She owns and runs Marnee Thai as her home, shouting orders to the kitchen, from across the room, she goes to every table to check on you and tell you what to order and, in our case, gave hairdo advice to one of our group, telling her to "take down her hair, like mine and you look even prettier!!!". Then there's the food which is totally ridiculous. Our party of 4 was all vegan and almost everything on the huge menu was available to us. Friends had said this was the best Thai in SF and we agree. It's also the most FUN Thai restaurant ever!!!! Can't wait to go again.

Diner Review №169

Marnee Thai is great family owned restaurant. The food comes out quick and is reasonably priced + consistently delicious.

My favorites are the spicy angel wings, chan pad poo (47) and pad kee mao (48). The noodles pack some heat as well as lots of authentic flavor.
The green curry and tom yum/tom kha gai aren't bad either.

I love the presentation of their mango sticky rice so I try to always save room for dessert :) This is my favorite Thai joint in the city.

Diner Review №170

Just another satisfied customer! The staff at Marnee is always friendly and their food is consistently delicious.

Vegetarians: I would recommend the fresh roll (vegetarian style) and the woonsen vegetarian. Delicious silver noodles fried with egg and veggies. Be warned- you'll start to crave it endlessly.

Diner Review №171

THE ONLY THAI PLACE I eat at....*EVER.* Hands Down The Best! Been eating here for a few years now. My usual- Their AH-MAZ-ING Angel Wings, Shrimp Pad Thai, Avocado Salad with Mango, Thai Iced Tea and for Dessert their Sticky Rice with Mango or Roti to Finish off your Meal. Honestly, since discovering this Beautiful place, I can't imagine eating at any other Thai Restaurant. It just Doesn't compare! Very Professional, Friendly, and Great Customer Service!

Diner Review №173

Love it

Diner Review №174

I ordered take-out 2 times here. On the first time, I had to line up for 20 minutes to talk to one of the servers, then they told me to keep waiting because my order was not ready yet, even though I placed this order about 1 hour and 20 minutes before. Well, maybe this was an extra busy day for them, I had seen so many good reviews about this place, so I wanted to give it a second chance.

Unfortunately, the second time was horrible. I walked in, the server asked for my order number. "Sure", then I pulled out my phone. The server told me "I asked for the order number, not your phone number." I was a bit confused with this comment, but replied that I was trying to get the confirmation number from my phone. Then, I said sorry because the app didn't give me a number, but they kept on pushing, while I kept apologizing and trying to show my phone screen. I did give out my name in the middle of this, and the server was holding my bag. Then, the server throw the bag in front of me (there was a table separating us, so the food wasn't on the floor) and just walked away.

How bad of a day this person was having to show this kind of attitude to a customer with just less than 1 minute of a conversation?

Diner Review №175

The number 0ne Best Place for Thailand Food ! Around town 😁Yummm Yummmy !!!👍😋

Diner Review №176

quality taste, flavor, unique

Diner Review №177

Was in the mood for some noodle soup after a successful morning of thrifting, felt like rewarding myself with all the good finds I did today. Stumbled upon this gem literally I stumbled right in front haha but walked in and was instantly hit with an aroma of spices! Took my seat and already knew what I wanted, boat noodles ftw!! It's so homey and full of flavor you can't really go wrong ordering this. Oh and the plus is the price!! Everything is how Thai food should be priced. You'll see none of that overpriced shizz here and me being me I had to get something to go because it's so rare when I'm in the area gotta make it worth the trip! Hits home if you looking for some Thai foods!

Diner Review №178

The green curry was watery. Also there was no eggplant in the veggies which I was very disappointed by.

Diner Review №179

Slightly worse than the location on 9th and Irving, but still good. Same menu, same food, different spot. Need decently cheap Thai? This is your spot.

Diner Review №180

Good food

Diner Review №181

Quick service for to go food during the corona time but the food wasn’t very good. Our group had 5 different dishes, some with and without meat, and no one was a huge fan. I got the pumpkin curry and it was just curry with chicken and very few veggies, which normally I would be ok with, but the curry itself just wasn’t flavorful in a good way and had a slightly fishy aftertaste. Same with the egg rolls... never had fishy veggie crispy egg rolls but these were and I wasn’t a fan.

Surprised at the high reviews, which is why we went there. The food does not look like some of the pretty pictures posted. Maybe their quality went down with to go only food.

Diner Review №182

Good variety, great flavors and friendly service

Diner Review №183

Always treated like family here by the owner, May. Get the hormuk if available. The best in town.

Ordered bbq chicken. Seriously underseasoned (needs more garlic, cilantro and ginger under the skin) and it could not have been any more dry.

Diner Review №200

This is the best thai food on the continent! Chan pad poo is the greatest dish that exists on this cursed land. Also, the imperial rolls are worthy of the gods. If I could give this more than 5 stars, I would give it as many stars as grains of sands on every beach in the world.
