Ben Thai Cafe is ready to give you the best experience of Thai Food. We guarantee your happiness
I love me a good Thai restaurant, and this was not it. Or maybe it was the dish, I'll go back and try something else. I do give restaurants second chances. I ordered the roasted duck red curry. The duck was mostly skin and fat, which I hate. Flavor was great. Appetizers were great as well as the service. I have to go back and try something else.
We found Ben Thai Cafe because we were in the area, it seemed interesting to us so we decided to stop by, the service when we arrived was not the friendliest, the gentleman who served us was a bit rude and you feel pressured to order your food. The food was undoubtedly wonderful, the dishes we ordered were very tasty and had a great flavor, we ordered rice with shrimp and pineapple and salmon bathed in coconut milk, I don't remember the names of the dishes but I recommend that you try any of them since apparently none of them will disappoint you, on the other hand at the end to pay the bill they add 15% or 18% which seems like an exaggeration to me 😬 In general the restaurant fulfills the mission of providing delicious food.
Wonderful, well prepared, and delicious Thai food, fast friendly service, and comfortable inviting surroundings. Lunch specials are an absolute bargain, and the portions are just right for individual meals. The food is served especially fast, so if you're in a hurry, this is a good bet.
Amazing birthday dinner. First time we try Ben Thai even though we leave 5min from there, we will definitely go back. The service, food and ambiance are perfect.
My husband ordered a chicken peanut sauce meal and I got the salmon avocado curry. It totally hit the spot, really tasty. The avocado was melting with the sauce and perfectly paired with the salmon.
For dessert, we shared their new lava cake with ice cream and strawberries. It comes from U Dessert in the mission and it is absolutely fantastic.
Delicious Thai restaurant in no frill but relaxing vibe. Service was AMAZING with food coming out quickly, big portion, and tasty. Our favorite was Pork of Heaven and Larb Duck which is really unique and different from other Thai restaurants. Good cocktail selection to choose from. A good Thai spot in town and good for all types of group!
Too much waiting for food
Great food in a nice space. Good came out in a timely manner and staff were helpful answering questions about the food. The curry was excellent.
Took off a star because the staff opened all of the doors to make the restaurant very cold to get everyone to leave immediately at closing time.
FOOD IS HORRIBLE! Service even worst!

We got the food within literally 3mins of ordering. You could tell it was pre-prepared and just heated. The food itself was below average. They give 50% off on non alcoholic drinks if you checkin on yelp - that’s how they have so many reviews! Never going back!
I am visiting from Detroit, Michigan. I am picky with Thai Food. The Pad Sew Ew was the best I have ever had. I ordered it with beef and that was also delicious and flavorful. I will probably eat there tomorrow, lol.
I recommend the pad Thai (shrimp and crab are favorable) but ask for more sauce.
Wir waren hier zum Abendessen als nicht viel los war. Der Service war freundlich und aufmerksam . Das Essen kam nach wenigen Minuten und war sehr lecker. Die Preise angemessen.
It’s starting to go downhill.
Barely any meat in every dish I’ve ordered.
Service is not terrible but far from great. They also automatically add 18% gratuity on tables of 4. I always tip generously, but I don’t like it when they just automatically charge the tip (it’s understandable for bigger groups maybe 6 and up but for a table of 4 seems odd)

long wait time
35 min above wait
not good
Absolutely fantastic! The service, atmosphere and quality of food exceeded my expectations! By far, the best yellow curry I've eaten in the USA!
Khao Soi, murder wings Mango with sticky rice are a few of the excellent dishes.
Wonderful, well prepared, and delicious Thai food, fast friendly service, and comfortable inviting surroundings. Lunch specials are an absolute bargain, and the portions are just right for individual meals. The food is served especially fast, so if you're in a hurry, this is a good bet.
The drunken noodles are really epic. Amazing place both with drinks and without.
The food is exceptionally good
best curry with beef ever!
Pretty normal Thai food, didn't feel the flavors were overly strong.
The waitress is extremely rude and the food smells.
Horrible service.
If you want to know what a foodgasm is...
Omgeeeeee.
My friend cried over duck noodle soup and the pumpkin soup was made with her angel tears.
Murder wings have flavors that a chicken only wishes she could hatch. Not spicy though but perfect. Yummy. The iced tea was heavenly.
I love it here y'all 😍
The fantastic server Aun always makes dining here the best. I don’t even live in San Francisco and Aun always remembers my name & order! The food here is phenomenal. I recommend it highly!
Too much late
Lightning fast service. I got the pad see ew and spring rolls and they were delicious!
La atención es un poco seca, pero correcta. Comimos Pad Thai y Kao Soi y eran espectaculares!
Nice small place. Nice nighttime vibe. Staff and I’m guessing owner, give customer service with detail. Like offering wet napkins after eating chicken wings. It’s the little things.
A hidden gem. Visiting from Colorado!! We loved this spot, very clean and welcoming. They didn’t have the beer my boyfriend wanted, but the one they did have was even better. A product of Thailand and we’re so glad they had an even better alternative. Had Spring Rolls with prawn, Keow-wan, and Pad thai. Thank you for welcoming us and keeping visitors safe!!
they have the worst service. please change the name of the restaurant to “Ben Chod”
Bad management, rude staff.
Worst experience!!
Bad management and rude staff.
We walked up-and-down the street looking for a place to eat and ended up in here. It was incredibly clean and delicious.
I had the best Panang Curry ever! Very spicy, but delicious! Full recomandatation! We ate dinner there yesterday and today again. Yes! It‘s so good! Wish to have this fabulous little restaurant in our hometown for every week visits ;)
Maybe good, except that they sent spicy version when I I ordered non spicy. As a result, I couldn’t share the food with my kids.
Amazing birthday dinner. First time we try Ben Thai even though we leave 5min from there, we will definitely go back. The service, food and ambiance are perfect.

Great food and the friendliest service!
Good Thaifood. , I will recommend it
Personnel très sympathique et accueillant, tous les plats que nous avons pris était excellent et très bon service.
Made a reservation for 4 people on 26 july 2024. When we arrived, no table was available so we were given option of sitting at the bar. Unacceptable for 4 people who had a reservation to have to sit in a row at the bar. Staff didn’t care or try to accommodate our booking. We wasted taxi fare to and from our hotel. Very disappointed at how we were treated. Shame on this establishment. Advice: simple, don’t take a reservation if you cannot fulfil it.
Mala atención con las personas latinas
Really good! My go-to neighborhood Thai spot. It always hits the spot for me :) would recommend
I got take out pad see ew. Did not taste like a pad see ew. Worst pad see ew I’ve ever tried. Smelt and tasted like bread. Absolutely weird flavor but also flavorless. Not to mention this place is expensive. Never going back.
Had a pad thai. It was just ok. Not bad but far from great.
Really good Pad Thai
Lady server were good but the old man server were bad, so 1 star.
I often attend conventions and dance events at the Holiday Inn near this restaurant, I convince friends to eat with me who love Thai food to walk to this restaurant. Thai soups, spring rolls, many noodle dishes with sauces that never disappoint. Incredible desserts with San Francisco’s famous Mitchell’s Ice Cream!
My favorite Thai place in SF right now.
-Taste okay
-Arrogant server
-Lunch portion is very less for money.
the slowest restaurant in the city specially with to go order, you should wait a long time the get your order
Good food, quick service
Must avoid! I tried their fried rice, the worst fried rice I ever had.
Taste - very bad
Quantity - little for the price
Ingredients - poor quality

Our favorite was Pork of Heaven and Larb Duck which is really unique and different from other Thai restaurants. Good cocktail selection to choose from. A good Thai spot in town and good for all types of group!
First dining experience was incredible! Food was so good, interior beautiful, and everyone inside was so kind, felt like family.
I ordered takeout. And was very disappointed to find meat in my meal. We took it back and they were only concerned with identifying what type of meat it was… Fish or chicken, it wasn’t supposed to be there. ( We ordered Tofu) They argued with us so we didn’t even care to try to get our money back. POOR SERVICE.
Have eaten here every week since I moved to the city. The food is absolutely delicious and the place is so cozy and inviting.
food was bland & so was the service :/ there is better Panang at King of Thai in Union Square, it wasn’t a nice experience :^(
Spicy eggplant with Basil was so delicious! A good portion for the price and spice was just right. Chicken was clean and cooked well. This dish is pungent and sweet with just enough heat. The atmosphere is cozy and warm and intimately small enough with dark lighting on red walls. Just order rice separately as it does not come with the meal automatically. Customer.service is top-tier.
Highly disappointing
Had the duck soup before. Maybe 2 years ago. Was really good.
Today however, I was Heavily disappointed with the duck. Very dry, cold, and over cooked. Worst duck I ever had. Every besides the actual duck in the soup was OK.
Don't know why they bother to ask if it was any good. I told them it the duck was dry. It was like talking to a robot. Just repeated what i said then completely ignored what i just said. Clearly depressed about my meal, they had the nerve to ask me if i wanted dessert. I wanted to cry right there. And nothing was done to make my experience better. Every bite of it was pure depression. I feeling ill in my stomach just writing this now.
I never had the Khao Soi noodle soup. Wow. All I could say quietly to my love was "this is so f__ng good! OMG" I understand there could be better somewhere else, I don't know, but what I do know is that I think about this dish almost every day. For me, one of the best noodle soups I've ever had regardless of cuisine.
It does have a little kick so if you can't eat spicy food you might think it's spicy. If you can at least tolerate a modest level of spice, then you're good to go. As others have mentioned they like to ask if you want duck instead of what kind of meat which I know can influence your decision. I already knew this before coming here so I was prepared.
I ordered it with tofu because I just didn't want meat. The tofu was nicely prepared and not over cooked and tough like too many places make it. That ruins a dish for me. I will probably have meat next time since I do enjoy meat.
It is a delicious balance of spice, richness from coconut milk/cream, the warmth of curries, lemongrass, lime... Oh just delightful. I want sure about the noodle choice but after the first bite, I understood.
Pad Thai is a nice balance, not too sweet, not overly rich, just to executed.
Can't wait to come here again and bring my daughter who loves Tom Kha Gai. This is similar but for me, another level better.
For the most part, I love Ben Thai! Both dining in and their delivery are very good. Our pad see ew came with the wrong noodles tonight though. I assume they ran out of the thick noodles, but it really made the dish drastically different. I wish the dish was unavailable // not orderable if the right noodles are unavailable.
Delicious, best Thai food we’ve had in Bay Area. They were friendly, service was quick. The eggrolls, golden bags, pad see ew and pad Thai were delicious. Would definitely come back.
Very cozy restaurant with amazing food. I had the Pad Thai which was one of the best I have ever eaten. We were taken care of by Aun who was friendly, informative and attentive. We are making this a regular go-to place.
Good Thai spot, we walked in without a reservation and was able to find a seat without a wait time :).
This place didn’t disappoint and food had good Thai flavours. We had their recommended chicken wings, khao souy and yellow curry. Khao souy was amazing and portion sizes are good too.
Incredible, deep flavors and lightening-fast service.
Delighted. Food was great. Service was very fast and accommodating
I had the khao soi (really good). Didn't seem like anyone had a personality, and I did not feel welcome here. Wouldnt do it again.
Awesome Thai food and good with dietary restrictions. Plenty of vegetarian options and gluten free availability.
This place was amazing! The food was great, and the owner was very sweet and accommodating. Our food came within minutes, and we loved every bite. Highly recommend!!!
Overall 3.5 stars
We ordered pad kee mao and khao soi. Every other pad kee mao I have had, it’s always more spicy than I can handle but I love the kick it usually here but here it was not at all spicy. The khao soi was better and had a slight spicy kick to it but I had higher expectations of the place since it has such great reviews from others.
Decent setting with great Thai food.
Tried Khao Soi and it was 3.5/5
We were visiting San Francisco for the week and went here the first day. It was so good we came back another time before leaving! Food was amazing - the Khao Soi was the best I’ve had since visiting Thailand. The staff was so kind and friendly, especially Auni! Highly recommend.
This was the BEST food !!! I had the panang curry two times in one week because it was that good. Our server Anui was so kind and attentive. I highly recommend this place to everyone. It also has a nice relaxing atmosphere and was very clean.
One of the best Thai restaurants I have ever consumed food at. If I could I would give it 100/5 stars. The food is immaculate!!! Atmosphere is super cool. Lovely decorations for the Christmas time! Not to mention…the service!!!! Wow!!! Aun and Pui took amazing care of my family and I. If I could, I would eat here every night!!!! Can’t wait to be back soon!!
The place is cute but food is kinda bland. I was craving for some Thai soup and was inspired by the photos of their soup with noodles and duck. After putting ourselves to the waitlist we drove to the place. It was packed on Sunday night and we were 3rd in line. After 15 minutes waiting outside the status in the waitlist haven’t changed and we noticed that people who just walked in got a table before us. When we entered and told waitress about us being in a waitlist with no progress she didn’t explain anything and we got a table after another guests left. The roasted duck soup was more like a noodles with duck, not much rich broth which I would appreciate. My husband got Pra-ram and liked it. I’m not sure I’ll give this place another shot.
The food is great
Lovely place for dining as a couple or with kids. Their desserts never disappoint.
This place is cute. Came here with my friend we noticed the cute ambiance from outside and decided to give it a try. We waited a good 10 min before we got a waitress to come over. But once we got service it was super fast. Food was good and tasty tho my friend said there could have been bigger beef portions, and they forgot the tofu on my plate. The drinks didn’t have a lot of alcohol but still yummy.
So nice! We will come back!
It was so good! Ask the server what’s good, they won’t steer you wrong!
Amazing Thai food. If I’m ever in San Francisco again, I’m stopping here. The Khao Soi with the duck is the way to go. Maybe the best Thai dish I’ve ever had.
phenomenal murder wings. not spicy but crispy and bursting with flavor. the yellow curry is so flavorful and good i could drink it forever. service is great. very friendly staff. cute atmosphere and lights inside
What a find. I came on a recommendation by a friend. We made a reservation for 3 at 8pm. They seated us immediately in a corner with a good deal of space. The ambiance was so classy and made you feel warm. The service was just the icing on the cake- they were funny and friendly, made sure we consistently had water, got us wet napkins for the wings, and gave my husband free ice cream for his birthday. Such a special experience. Food review below.
Appetizers: Golden Bags (A MUST HAVE), Murder Wings. Review: The Murder Wings had good flavor but the Golden Bags easily stole the show. So fresh and crispy and full of flavor.
Mains: Gra-Prao Fried Rice with Chicken, Pa-Nang Curry with Chicken and a side of Jasmine Rice. Review: Both were just incredible and not too spicy. The fried rice was devoured instantly.
My experience at Ben Thai Restaurant was a culinary voyage through Thailand, and it left my taste buds singing with delight! The Khao Soi dishes from Northern Thailand were a true standout – rich, flavorful, and the squeeze of lime elevated the experience to another level. The Larb White Fish, representing the bold flavors of Northeast Thailand, had a kick of fish sauce that might catch you off guard initially, but after a thorough mix, it unfolded into a burst of deliciousness. Ben Thai Restaurant is a must-visit for those seeking an authentic and diverse Thai culinary experience. The harmony of flavors in each dish is delivering an exceptional dining experience.
This place was solid! The wings were good and I love that they serve them saucy and crispy (A hard combo). I knew the wings were good when I seen white people licking their fingers! The pad se ew was solid and very familiar if that makes sense. The waiter was fun and made us feel prioritized and cared for.
They will always get a mandatory visit from me. The atmosphere was basic and I actually liked it that way because obviously they care more about your tastebuds.
Best Thai food in San Fransisco! Everyone who works there are so nice! The food tastes just like we remember from Thailand and they even have some specialty dishes we can't find anywhere else! Every time we get visitors in town we take them here and it's good for groups and families! Also they have lots of vegetarian options and everything is a great price for how much food you get!! 10/10
I ordered take out last night. I specified no pineapple due to allergies. My duck curry was full of pineapple! Ordered 2 dishes with duck. I was so dissatisfied mostly duck skin with barely and duck meet attached. My order took over 1.5 hr to deliver. Time on order sad 15 to 20 min for delivery. So disappointing
Phenomenal food and service.
We stumbled onto this place while in the city for a conference and WOW. Aun and Mai took care of us despite a big party nearby which was probably a lot of work. They gave us friendly and prompt service. The chef’s special, Khou Soi is absolutely fantastic, as is the chicken satay. The peanut sauce is elevated and the best I’ve ever had. We also had the fresh rolls with tofu which were delicious. All the veggies in the dishes are are crisp and very fresh. Flavors have depth and and textures are scrumptious. ICE cold Thai beer to wash it down. WE WILL BE BACK!
Ordered delivery the food is sub par…
we order takeout and dine in at ben thai more often than i’d like to admit but i promise its the BEST thai food in sf! everything is so fresh and flavorful, the staff is always so friendly, and the cocktails are fun and creative. my go-to is the papaya salad, tom yum soup, and pad thai or panang curry. it’s the perfect lunch or dinner spot if you’re ever visiting the city or don’t feel like cooking.
Amazing place the food is just great and very tasty. Location is great right on park street easy to get to I can't hear with my girlfriend. We had a coconut curry with rice and cheese. Or the noodles would be a little bit spicy was amazing. We have a tie beer and enter up our dinner with the coconut fried planting dish, a perfect cherry on top of the cake highly recommended if you are anywhere near oak street.
Had the lunch combo: Keow-Wan curry (green curry) with chicken and brown rice, and golden bag appetizer. All were really good!
Location and reviews drew us in and we’re so glad we stopped for dinner. Some of the best Thai we’ve eaten anywhere! If we lived in Nob Hill we’d be regulars!
Very good thai
Ordered to go. By the time we served at home an hour later the noodle dishes had fused into noodle loafs. I suggest eat at the restaurant and it will be better.
Excellent staff and food
Très bonne cuisine, et plats copieux.
Food was so incredibly delicious and service was really fast too! Dined in and was out in under an hour. Got the green and yellow curries (yellow was vegan!), and they were both so good, better than other Thai restaurants we've been too. They also had a ton of other menu items that could be made vegan or vegetarian, and they were clearly marked on the menu!
Best Thai food ever.
Never had such tasteless pad thaï , for the price I would not recommend
Excellent
Holy Yum Batman! The green curry makes me filled with all the feels of comfort and joy. I loved their spring rolls and you get 6 in an order!! The pad see ew vegan was so amazing! I love it here, eating in or ordering delivery.
I enjoyed my visit here. I think it’s definitely one of the best places to run when Thai craving comes. The portions are huge and flavorful. Ofc it’s not a fine dining experience.
I think is great for group dinners and date night. Gets busy but if you’re one or two is doable to find a spot.
The service was great, only thing I wish is they were more transparent with the tip situation. Since they use toast is hard to know what just happened.
An excellent experience from the service to the quality of the food. I loved the panang curry. I highly recommend.
My boyfriend and I frequent this place. It is AMAZING and the staff is even better. We were most recently helped by Aun and Luna who are incredibly kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. Go to this place for some of the best Thai food in the area!!!
We ordered Garlic Duo, Pad See Ew and some sticky rice for dinner. Great foods, friendly staffs. The place is a bit small and I would love if it is brighter. However, in general, it's definitely a good place you need to try.
Food just so so. Tom Yam not good. Pork of Havens ver black. Services not friendly! Not recommend!!!
Very friendly and super nice food!!
The eggplant is amazing!!!!
Molto buono e buon rapporto prezzo qualità! Bello l'ambiente
Visiting the city & wanted Thai as there are not many options in my current city. This was delish, just what I was craving. Food came out fast & lots of layers of flavors. I had the khao soi with chicken
i ordered gra prao fried rice and it was tasteless, i have no idea why people gives rating five. i’ve bn travel to many places in cali and i think this was the most disappointed place ever… the chef obviously need a vacation…
Delicious pad kee mao
Their sautéed eggplant dish is my go to favorite. However, recent order of drunken noodles, and their two types of wings was a bit underwhelming as far as flavor. Going to assume it was an off night as I’ve grown to expect a nice punch from their dishes. Still one of the better options in the area. Overall, SF lacks good casual thai
Opted to try Ben Thai because of the numerous options not typically found in other places. Street parking, although not the safest of areas, was relatively easy on a weekend. The food came out quick which was appreciated since we were quite hungry. The staff was friendly and attentive and offered strong recommendations. I ordered the Khao Soi Deluxe with Oxtail. That dish wasn’t what I expected. The soup was creamy and sweet with a slight kick to it. The egg noodles were chewy enough. And the fried noodles and pork skin gave additional texture to the dish. But the oxtail pieces were IMO the star of the show. They were roasted, tender, and so flavorful. I would definitely come back just for this meal. The rest of the dishes we ordered were good but just average. But we have to try more of their specials probably. There is a Yelp check-in offer for 50% off non-alcoholic drinks. The aesthetics of the place was nice and the bathroom was also nice and clean.
Ben Thai has always been my go-to Thai place to order in. I've always loved their spice moderation and customization options. However, I found a roach in my recent order and I'm extremely disappointed, I'll never be able to get myself to order from here. I've sent in a complain through the delivery app and no one has followed up!
I really enjoy Ben Thai. They have gluten free and vegetarian options, and they can bring the spice if you ask for it. Really solid Thai place!
One of the worst food experiences of all time. First of all, they forgot the main dish in the delivery.
Secondly their shrimp fresh roll had barely 2 1/4th pieces of shrimp across all rolls. Most rolls didn’t even have shrimp inside.
They are running a low cost operation.
Would NOT reccommend for the price
Street parking only. Service is good. Food come out very fast as kitchen is not busy. Satay chicken is good. Pa Nang beef is tender. Pumpkin Curry is good with a bit spice. There is Yelp check in offer for half price non alcoholic drink. Toast is used for payment. Be careful that gratuity on tax. Not just food cost.
I visited Ben Thai cafe recently for dinner with some friends. The restaurant is located quite conveniently and finding street parking was not a challenge at 7 pm. Not sure if it is always like that, considering parking is always a challenge in SF.
The ambience of the restaurant is quite amicable, although I think it can use an uplift considering the charges. Ordered one of the banana-cherry shakes and their popular chicken wings for starters. It was kind of a let down as the shake felt a little bland and wings just lacked some substance. Could not find a whole lot of meat in the wings which was not we expected considering it was their ‘most popular’ recipes. Then, ordered the yellow curry whith chicken, and again it tasted pretty bland. It wasnt bad but just lacked the flavor that you look for when having good thai food. Also, they did not offer rice with the curry so you have to order it separately as a side. That was another let down. I have been to many good thai places, and typically they offer small portion of rice along with curries. Not here though.
It was an okeish kind of experience. Likely not going back there again.
AMAZING. Really nice atmosphere and service. I got the yellow curry and it was so good. Big portions so I had leftovers for lunch the next day. Definitely recommend!
We had the best Thai food in California so far. We missed Thai food so much after moving from the east coast to California, but eating here was so satisfying!! I would definitely return. Satay was perfectly cooked and juicy. Pad Thai noodles were delicious.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. A little on the pricey side
A solid Thai food experience. We loved the fried banana dessert!
We ordered the Khao Soi, chicken satay and the Pad Talay. Unfortunately. They ran out of oxtail for the Khao soi but the duck was a great substitute. I liked the Pad talay with the crispy fried salmon, soft squid, large shrimp and vegetables. The satay was good, too. Service was impeccable.
Best pad see ew and papaya salad I’ve found in SF thus far. Reasonably prices as well. The service was amazing and attentive without making me feel like they were hovering over me. Cant wait to come back!
