"Thai cuisine is light, fresh and traditionally seasoned with chili peppers and aromatic herbs. A gourmet delight for those who know and love authentic food. It also has a temper, but you can have Thai cuisine in a pleasant blend of "spicy hot" and "spicy not." You decide. Enjoy!
We are proud of our unique characteristics and intricate food preparation techniques. Each dish is prepared to order using a memorable blend of the best quality ingredients and sophisticated cooking arts. This perfect harmony is Taste of Thai's secret.
Great Thai restaurant. Located in Hillcrest, this establishment serves delicious Thai food. We ordered the spicy noodles, rahd nar noodles, and the fresh spring rolls -- all flavorful. Their Thai iced tea was appetizing as well. They have a very complete Thai menu. Parking is little tight, so you may have to drive a little bit. But, overall, I recommend this Thai restaurant.
I ordered Green Curry to go. The taste was not good. Roasted duck was stale and rice was scant and awful. Not even a full container of rice. The woman taking my order was very impatient and impolite. I believe she was bothered that i couldn’t understand her English.
She became very combative and another woman approached speaking clearer English and cleared up some miscommunication.
I decided to eat my meal there and the woman with the bad attitude glared and stared me down all evening. A terrible experience. I do not recommend this place - bad food, bad service.
When we go to a new place, we search for two types of restaurants: a NY style pizza place, and a good Thai restaurant. Fortunately, we found Taste of Thai on this extended stay in San Diego. The food is authentic, nicely presented and absolutely fresh and delicious. Finding perfect dumplings, a nice Tom Kah soup, and perfect Pad Thai makes a place feel like a home. I highly recommend this restaurant.
This is one of our top spots in town for Thai food. 9/10 times we are happy but they have their off nights. Last night, we got take out since we just got off a flight. It was the best they have ever made for us. The pad Thai was the best we have ever had. The drunken noodles weren’t as great as usual. We tried the Thai asparagus for the first time and it was delicious.
This is an institution that’s been here for at least 20 years. They always play classical music. The food is top notch (and excellent lunch specials). Service is fantastic. Great quiet atmosphere. Top notch. Edit: They no longer have the lunch specials, but an entree with rice is around $13-$16 and is more than I can eat at one setting. Their iced tea is heavenly…appears to be fresh brewed and my glass never ran dry with frequent refills.
I was really disappointed with my recent visit to Taste of Thai Restaurant. The Tom Yum soup was bland and didn’t have the tangy or spicy flavors it’s supposed to have. It just tasted like plain broth.
The Thai Fried Rice wasn’t any better. It was tasteless, plain, and didn’t have much flavor at all.
Overall, the food was very disappointing, and I don’t plan on coming back anytime soon.
Ordered Pad See Ew and Panang Curry at a 4/10 spice level. The curry had nice flavor and was just spicy enough to tickle the tastebuds. The Pad See Ew looked really tasty but was a little bland. Both portion sizes were generous and we ended up having leftovers which were boxed up very nicely by our waitress! We arrived around 6:15pm on a Wednesday and the restaurant was mostly empty which was a little surprising but the service was fast.

Good food! Asked for spicy and it was delivered! Thank you! 🙏 We came with a dog and stayed on the terrace and the staff was very nice and brought her water

Been dining at this establishment for well over 10 years. Absolutely the best thai I've had anywhere including Thailand!! They also have the friendliest staff you could ask for. One of my all time favorites!
I regularly have meals here as this is one of my most favorite restaurants in Hillcrest. The food is superb, always consistently well proportioned, delicious, and fresh with great flavors and a nice variety of options and unique items. My top pick for an excellent mid-priced busy Thai restaurant s with fantastic service every time I go!
Pad Thai was extremely bland and way over priced for the quality. Worst food I have had in the month I have been here in San Diego .
The best Thai food we've had in years! Everything was delicious! The choochi curry was my fav! And they gave us coconut ice cream! Sooo yummy! And the service was spot on and so nice! Wished we lived closer... it would be a regular for us!
I ordered Green Curry to go. The taste was not good. Roasted duck was stale and rice was scant and awful. Not even a full container of rice. The woman taking my order was very impatient and impolite. I believe she was bothered that i couldn’t understand her English.

11/10 this place had amazing food! Everything feels fresh and homemade Thai
The service was excellent and the food came on time. Served hot. The sticky rice which came with the red curry was not sufficient to eat with the meal, maybe we should have ordered more. Overall food was good. The beer was good as well.
I ordered through Grubhub today, but I've had a few issues in the past with the Crying Tiger being overcooked and dry, so I called the restaurant right after I ordered, to make sure that it wouldn't be overcooked. The woman I spoke to said she understood, and asked me how I wanted it prepared. I told her "medium rare" and she acknowledged that it would be cooked medium rare. It was STILL overcooked and dry. I don't know why it's so challenging to get food cooked properly there, but 4/5 times it WILL be overcooked - even if they acknowledge that they will make sure it won't be. Apparently they like to keep refunding money to their patrons.
Gave me diarrhea and they skimped on the rice portion size, boxes were half empty. +1 star for good flavor
I had a great dinner experience. We sat outside and shared the spicy noodles and the pad prik khing and it was delicious. Service was great and friendly.
Very nice traditional thai food in Hillcrest.
This place is authentic and the flavors are very good.
The rice has the perfect texture and has a nice chew that I couldn’t stop eating until I felt too uncomfortable. I never eat that much.
Some of the best Thai food I’ve ever had, and friendly service! Love coming here - thanks!
Одно из лучших тайских ресторанов всем советую очень вкусно 🔥
The food was very tasty and the staff was very kind and attentive.
We did a take out order but no to go utensils were added. What were they expecting us to use to eat the food?! The sauce that came with the egg rolls was not the usual sauce that comes with Asian egg rolls. It was not good. The pad Thai was mid. Noodles were overcooked and dry.. I’ve had better. Pretty disappointed.
I took a to go order and their employees are sooo nice to me! Definitely will come back
We came at 11 am since google said they open at 11 am. The lady opened the door while carrying chairs & table putting on the patio denied us saying today they open 15 min late, asked us to wait outside!!! We wasted $5.5 for parking in private parking lot for nothing. This restaurant doesn’t need customer, don’t come here to dine.
Always quick to-go service. My favorite entrees are the green curry and pad see eww. Great food!
The food was bland at best. Had the appetizer sampler and every single one was disappointing. Pad Thai as main course was equally bad. I even left half my shrimp as they tasted old and half cooked. Ended up with a rash too.
Love the food here, but due to parking issues, we may not have another meeting there soon.
Places uses too many frozen ingredients. This is true because spring rolls we ordered were the frozen variety as they came frozen in the middle even with the exterior piping hot. I got the green curry, which honestly tasted nicely with the pork, but the peas and carrots in the curry were definitely the frozen variety as they have that cold-burned flavor.
Courteous staff. Impressed by their hospitality. Let them know about diet preferences like strict vegetarian, etc. They nicely accommodate.
Ordered food online and had ratings of 1-10 spice level. I chose 1 and it was at least 5 and couldn't eat. All of the other food was either cold or to spicy. Had to throw away and very disappointed.
For was very delicious. Service was good too. Would recommend to anyone visiting Hillcrest
Mushroom larb was amazing, the passion fruit tea was delicious
Food was great however the takeout wrapping job was awful. Pad Thai sauce got all over my car and sweater. The thai place we usually go to around the corner wraps the containers with cellophane.
Super nice service, food was good too. We really loved the experience. In the end, stepped out of the restaurant and felt real damn good!!

every single time, they make the food way too spicy despite me always ordering a 2 out of 10. it hurts to eat. i also got a papaya salad that tasted rotted, like it had been sitting out for days. obviously fresh ingredients were not used. months ago, i also had a disappointing visit last time i went after a very unpleasant encounter with one of the female staff members which resulted in me not even bothering to place an order and just thanking her and eating at the place next door instead. i’ve been going to this place for many years and i’m sad to say it’s nowhere near as good as it used to be. the rotted salad was really shocking. i don’t know if it was the tomatoes or something else in particular in it, but i had never had that happen to me before. it’s usually very tasty and fresh. the chicken for the noodles is also usually pretty juicy but this time it was dry.
Delicious food and quick service. The pad Thai, and sticky rice with mango and amazing!
This establishment has been a local institution for at least 20 years, consistently playing classical music. The food is of the highest quality, especially with their excellent lunch specials. The service is fantastic, and the ambiance is perfect for a quiet meal. It's truly top-notch. Please note that they no longer offer lunch specials, but their entrees with rice are priced around $13-$16, providing generous portions that exceed a single setting. Their iced tea is heavenly—appearing to be freshly brewed—and my glass never ran dry thanks to frequent refills.
Food is fantastic. The service is very prompt and very kind.
They were open on Thanksgiving.
It's my first time I had a dinner at "Taste of Thai”, I have seen this restaurant for a while but I have never thought that they had an exceptionally good menu and food. Although small, the restaurant is reasonably attractive with beautiful decoration of Thai culture. The menu is large, the drinks and the service is really amazing. I totally will go back soon :)
Great food lively dinner time.
This place has the worst Thai food. I literally almost vomited
Taste of Thai never disappoints. I consistently get the roasted duck. It’s soothing and delicious! Whenever I have a belly ache, cramps, or I need something I know won’t upset me, the duck soup is my go-to here! It’s packed with nutrients and is very filling! Those who work at this restaurant have always been helpful and kind to me! I have gone back many times and I’ve never been disappointed:) 100% recommend!
I always pass this place whenever I’m in Hillcrest. I went to get my toes done and walked over for dinner. The service was really good, our waiter checked in on us a lot and gave us water without us having to flag her down. The food was also amazing. I usually get Tom yum soup but they have a sukiyaki version of it and it was phenomenal! Highly recommend this place if your looking for good Thai food. I’ll be coming back again soon 😊
Unfortunately, this did not work. The server gave us the exact opposite spice level than requested. They served us later than others who came in after us, and our meals with exception of the appetizers was not appealing. Annoyed enough to write this critique.
Sommerrollen, Curries und Salat alles sehr fein und lecker. Kinder glücklich. Bauch ist voll.
Suuuuuuper watery curry. And what happened to the sweet taste it used to have ? Definitely gone down hill since I last remember it.
So bland. It seems that they boil the chicken unseasoned ahead of time and then add it to whatever dish sauce you order. The green beans were the same way. This was my first and last time at this restaurant.
La mas Rica comida en mucho tiempo Bonito y agradable Place.
Superb tasty cuisine
I've been going here for my Thai fix since 1998, always perfection in service, kindness and amazing food!!!
Quiet, cozy place. Good service. Taste good. listen to wishes. For example, if you do not like a spicy.
Very tasty food for spice lovers, fast and prompt service.
Delicious food always! and if at any time something is wrong they will correct it, and if they can't because it was a take out they will the next time you're there.
No need to go looking for any other thai restaurant.
And the portions are plentiful, I always have left overs for the next day!
We went to this place on a Friday evening, around 6:30, and it was not busy, we were sat right away. The place is very nice. They have an amazing tapestry in one of the walls, it’s very beautiful. The decor is very nice. The food was very good as well 10/10.
Great Thai food and with great quality ingredients.
Most delicious Thai food I have had in San Diego... Service is superb. Restaurant is kept very clean...
Good food for a good price with the family.
Reasonable price, good food, and they have a 1-10 way to say how spicy you want the food!
We took my nephew here for dinner one night as a thank you for picking up from the airport. This used to be my favorite Thai spot when I lived in the city, and after several years I was impressed to learn that they are still providing the same great food and experience!
We came 30 minutes before closing, but the staff were accommodating, provided fast service, and the food was great!
Excellent choice for Thai food. My favorite in SD.
Amazing food, priced right, atmosphere is chill (though I always do take out)
Great for dining in or takeout

Just ordered Tom-kha and spring rolls... soup tasted really bad. Super different from the average tom kha taste. Spring rolls sauce was also not good. I never really post reviews but tonight I'm just really disappointed lol
Ordered delivery of two pho orders. It was so bad, it should be considered a hate crime. Couldn’t have tasted farther from what pho should taste like. Absolutely disgusting, I couldn’t eat more than a few bites. Threw it all out.
Middle of the road thai.
Weird that you have to order peanut sauce for a $1 more to go with your fresh rolls
Pad thai was ok. I did like that there was a 1-10 spice level choice, but didn’t notice much at 5 so I guess I’ll kick it up next time.
Overall it check the box, but nothing special.
I came here for dinner with a girlfriend this past Sunday- it was delightful! And I rarely use that word lol.
The food was spectacular- so rich in vibrant and fragrant flavors, fresh produce & high quality ingredients.
The ambiance & service were stellar as well - the gentleman that took care of us saw that I didn’t have any more rice for all the left over green curry I had so he so kindly packed some for me free of charge. So thoughtful. Thank you again.
I shall be back soon!
Foot was all terribly bland and stir fries were basically a steamed, soupy mess. Will not order again.
Great food and great service.
Great service. Food was okay - Green curry was too spicy. Spicy noodles had too much spice and not enough flavor. Curry rice was good. Good portion size.
Very special place... Relaxing environment... A must experience environment!
Uno de nuestros lugares favoritos! Nos encanta el thai fries rice y el spicy noodle shrimp.
Ordered Pad Thai with chicken. It came with some sort of dried shrimp (not listed in ingredients), that tasted old and rotten.
Also ordered sweet basil dish with veggies, absolutely no flavor and the veggies were old and chewy. Golden triangles had 1 pea and maybe a tiny potato, mostly just filled with cheddar cheese. For the price, I would at least expect fresh ingredients. Very disappointing.
I’ve ordered here a few times via UberEats. I usually get the Pad See Iw Noodles, it is such a flavorful dish! Big portion with lots of veggies.
This evening I decided to try their yellow curry. I have been to dozens of Thai places before and don’t usually order yellow curry because it can be boring. But OMG - this is the best I’ve had. I will definitely be ordering this often during the colder months! Perfectly smooth and spicy (I order mild), the flavor is so good I can just eat it with plain rice. And the sauce isn’t too thick - I find other places have such a thick base but this consistency is perfect. Please try! And don’t forget to order their Thai iced tea.
Tom kha kia soup was the Best!
Everything else we ate was delicious. Will be back there soon.
Spiciest Thai in the Neighborhood with the friendliest staff! You have to gobble up some of their Money Bags! 😋 Delicious
Disappointed they stopped lunch specials a week ago. Still good though.
We have always loved this place for takeout because the food is good, they have good size portions, they make it quick, run specials on the Uber app and it’s right down the street from us. It seems like they have recently changed chefs, for the better. We always order seafood pad Thai and chicken pad prik king and this last time they were more flavorful and seemed to include more protein which was great. They only reason I give them 4/5 stars is because the inside of the restaurant is outdated, that’s why we always get takeout.
Food is always Great, Delicious and Savory!...one of my most Favorite Thai restaurants!...loved the other location that use to be off "Villa De La Valle Rd." in Rancho Santa Fe! 😋
You know when you are craving your favorite food from your favorite spot and then you finally put the baby done to sleep and can't wait to get to your food only to find the order messed up. Yes that's what happened today. Actually it was not messed up. They just didn't add egg plant to the green curry. The only reason you order it. So disappointed ☹️
Used to work dispatch for delivered dish before it was bought by grubhub. Handsdown best thai in San Diego county! Amazing staff and ownership. Thank you for continuing to amaze me personally and professionally!
Delicious!!! Get the yellow curry, your taste buds will thank you. We ordered delivery and everything was perfect, including the packaging.
I placed an order for take out and the meal was fine until I found a long black hair inside the vegetable bowl. Since I have already picked up my order and as disgusting as it is, I did not request to replace it. However, I would hope your staff wears a hair net when preparing food. I will need to think twice before placing an order from your business.
Good noodles
Went for the vegan elements of their menu, as my spouses doctor recommended a vegan diet. We loved the food.
Great food, great people. Food is always delicious, order is always right. 10 stars, best of the best.
Great food and they always accommodate when I’m hungry later in the evening. Customer service is amazing. Will be back. Food is good
First-time here and I really enjoyed it. Everything about this place was excellent. The food it's truly delicious, I had the Duck roasted noodle soup. It was a new taste for me, so bold but balanced at the same time, so new and fresh with a slightly taste of mint or might be anothe spice that it makes it so welcoming. If I could eat this broth everyday I'd do it. The noodles, (the type, egg noodles, recommended by our waiter) where the right amount of flavour and thickness. I also tried the plum wine they have and I really liked it, you can taste the plum flavour there, is kind of sweet but not awfully, good sweet. The place is clean and the decorations lead you to a really Thai ambient. About the service, it was over and extremely good, excellent, outstanding. This is the kind of service all restaurants should have. Waitress and waiters are really doing their work, without overstepping when you don't need. To the contrary they're really taking care of you, making the service very effective. When you need to refill your drink they we'll ask you before and you don't even have to ask for it. When you are done they know and they go and take away what you don't need. They ask, recommend, treat you as it should be. That with a lot of tables to attend and from I can tell that food service is wide to all customers. It's their timing, kindness, and efficiency along with the true Thai flavours that makes this place so unique. It's just perfect. I give 5 stars because I cannot give 6, but this it's an outstanding place. It'll be my place for Thai food. Definitely come here and live this experience. I highly recommend it
This is hands down my favorite Thai place in San Diego!! Their food is so bomb 💣
Highly recommend.
So sad they are so far from my house!! Or I'd go multiple times per week!!
It was alright, on the bland side. I mean, Hillcrest has set the bar pretty high for eating establishments. So in comparison to Hillcrest standards its a 3 out of 10. It was the only place open early enough to grab early lunch. Was it memorable enough to return? Nope!
Taste of Thai has remainded consistently good and delicious even through the pandemic. Now that we're going out again more we'll definitely be back.
The duck pad see ew was amazing and only 15$!! New favorite Thai place. Nice decor and top notch service. I will be back!
Outstanding curry
Second time eating here, once last year and this evening. Consistently always delicious 😋.
Great Thai curry! to go along with service and ambiance!
Our first time. You have to appreciate how hard it has been for restaurants to weather covid. Many have not. It's great to see the classic places like this have managed to. Their menu is expansive and authentic. Great service. Grand dining room. Like from another era we all miss.
Great service but the food wasn't up to par, disappointing. Also prices were increased.
I asked the waitress whether the fried tofu was vegetarian. She emphatically said "yes", but as I was eating the tamarind sauce that came with it, I discovered it had a fishy taste. I also ordered the tom yum soup. The menu said they use chicken broth, but you can request something else (and the sign outside the restaurant says Thai and vegetarian food). So I requested to have vegetable broth. The waitress said ok she would bring tom yum soup with vegetables (as if that's what I requested). I thought it was just a language barrier thing since she was Asian. I thought the soup had kind of a chicken stock taste to it, and there was broccoli and green beans in it. I am now thinking broccoli and green beans are not ordinarily in the soup, so she just added those in. À manager guy said as we were paying our bill "the tip is already included", so I guess I did not have any choice but to tip her. The bill had in big print eleven dollars and some change. I did not see in finer print below a total of twenty five dollars and some change. I attached twelve dollars. She collected everyone's payment and went to process the payment. She returned and scolded me. I explained I did not notice the total. She just stared at me. I replaced the twelve dollars with twenty six dollars. I never got any change back, but I just honestly could not wait to get out of there.
Excellent taste and VERY generous portions... Largest serving of curry that I remember having, at a very reasonable price (12.95 chicken panang curry) and all very tasty. Very friendly service too. Definitely recommended.
Tom yum and papaya salad were both sweet and not athentic at all.
Hands down my favorite place to get Thai food. They have the best Thai tea, Chicken pad Thai noodles and the fried banana omg YUM!!!!
Been coming here for 14 years. All you need to know. Delicious
Absolutely sublime!
Clean dining, kitchen, and bathroom areas!
Staff was so friendly, fast, and masked ready.
Ordered Pad Thai noodles with Tofu, steamed rice, and Yellow Curry with Tofu. Also added a Thai Tea with Coconut Cream!
Everything was proportional and absolutely delicious!!! Brought to the table with beautiful plates, I will be back for more! Delicious good and thank you!!
Delicious food. Validated parking is a victim of COVID.
Great Thai food. Lunch specials are a great deal. The Thai iced tea with coconut milk is awesome. I had the Ginger lunch special with chicken and it was great. Nice staff and quick Service.
Food was decent I ordered on doordash. Barely but any meat in my order. Food is over priced. For what they give you.
Great food beautiful people serving
I got chicken pad Thai here before and it was so great. The chicken is so soft and perfect. I’ll order from here again.
amazing food! so far this is my favorite thai food place and i’ve been to a lot. great food, good service, good prices as well! my girlfriend and I love this place.
I had the Hawaiian rice, and the yellow curry soup. The appetizer sampler was superb. The outside dining was atmospheric and comfortable.
Food is delicious....noise level in the restaurant is pretty high and they desperately need a bigger parking lot!
Food was amazing. The staff was very nice and very safe.
15 minute wait turned into 40 minute as as our order was forgotten about. Waiting indoors nobody bothered to check in, had to go up and ask and even then wasn’t told anything.
Love the Beef Panang!
Long time downtown favored in Encinitas
It took 35 minutes to get our food to go!! They lost our order of 2 chicken pad Thai and 1 seafood pad Thai... We got a free desert... But at that point I just wanted to be done with them. The food was decent but definitely not worth the wait!!
