Food is always great! I love their dark and funky papaya salad. Yum 😋

Update Feb 19: For a long time I haven’t eaten pork so today I decided to try something new. When I saw they had garlic spear ribs I knew I had to have it, my fav at one point. As I excitedly anticipated to get home to eat them, to my disappointment it was NOT spare ribs. Just unflavored fried pork. Whomp whomp 👎

So Saap, please don’t label something as is if it’s not. For the false advertisement I took off 2 stars from previous review.

Diner Review №2

Super expensive and the quantity of food is low

Diner Review №3

I tried Lao food for the first time, and the restaurant had a really nice atmosphere, it felt like a mix of a bar and a cozy dining space with TVs and stylish décor. But of course, what excited me the most was the food!

I ordered the Laos Famous Plate, and it was such an interesting experience. The meat had a unique flavor, and while the papaya salad wasn’t my favorite, I’m still glad I gave it a try. The tomato sauce was delicious, and the sticky rice, OMG! Now I finally know how to eat it properly next time! As an Asian, I felt like I was discovering something completely new.

The coconut cane drink was so refreshing, I loved it! The staff were so warm and welcoming, which made the experience even better. They even had special meals for Valentine’s Day, but I don’t think I’ll be back just yet, maybe next time! Even though I didn’t love everything, I’m happy I tried it!

Super Delish! Highly recommend. Had the thom ka, fried rice, fried pork belly and Watermelon Sugarcane. Shared lunch with 3 people. Servings are generous and the dipping sauce was BOMB!!!

Not to write a book but, no joke it's nice to go to a place that the food is worth every penny and is fresh and better than my cooking. THATS WHAT RESTAURANTS ARE FOR!

GREAT FOODIE PLACE!!!

V the sweet server who rocks the headband was so great. Her service was phenomenal even with it being new years. The restaurant was packed and understaffed but V went above and beyond!! Food and service was awesome

Diner Review №11

Just order everything!

Diner Review №12

I am a very strict critic when it comes to Thai (and Lao) food. It is hard to please me. So many restaurants use store bought spice mixes and then douse with coconut milk and call it authentic Thai/ Lao food.
This restaurant was a pleasant surprise. Each dish we had seemed to be well made. We had two soups in their Happy Hour menu, and then two from their regular menu. Also a sugarcane and coconut drink. Each was distinct and delicious.
The ambiance was nice, it was clear they took great care in setting up the feel of the restaurant. It was not overdone with Thai decorations, it felt just the best balance of western and Eastern sensibility. I absolutely LOVED the golden dishes, glasses, spoons, forks, etc. Made us feel very special.
I will highly recommend this restaurant. And I intend to visit often and bring friends. I am so glad I found it!

Recommended for those that love Thai/Lao style food. I don’t usually do Lao style som tum cause I can’t stand the taste of fermented fish, but the one from here was so tasty and it didn’t smell anything bad. Sticky rice to go with som tum is much needed! Use your finger to make a ball shape sticky rice and dip with som tum sauce. YUM!

Will def going back! Bit pricey but I guess it’s normal for San Diego. Also finding parking spot can be very challenging.

Diner Review №20

I wish I could give this place double the stars. I am mixed with Thai and live in Southern Az where outside of my moms cooking I dont get authentic Thai/Lao food.

I always try and eat at a Thai restaurant when we go out of town and today being my birthday I definitely wanted it.

I found this place and had to try. I am SO glad I did. I wanted to order everything... instead I went for Boat Noodles, Thum and sticky rice.

So so so so authentic and delicious. Even the plating and silverware was presented beautifully.

Im coming here everytime we're in the area.

Diner Review №21

Some of the best broth I've had. Tried a couple of dishes, highly recommend the boat noodle! Pork belly was also amazing. Also, whoever is playing TLC for the soundtrack, keep it up!

Diner Review №36

Just finished eating some bomb Lao food here. So good! Highly recommend you come here if you have never tried Lao food. The taste is powerful, spices are strong if you want it to be. Left feeling full and happy

Diner Review №37

Fantastic food and so well seasoned! The fried salmon belly is one of the best appetizers on the planet.

Diner Review №38

Great atmosphere. Lots of vegetarian options. Sugar cane drinks are bomb.

Diner Review №39

The food is really good. The service wasn’t good. Most of the food was delivered by their robot which is very cool but if you’re in a big group good luck trying to figure out whose food this is or if this is the vegan dish someone ordered. Part of our group had to reorder drinks and food because they never showed up. And they won’t split up a check I assume because they want to make sure they add the mandatory trip for large parties and also because the robot deserves a tip. They do have a parking lot but it fills up fast because it’s shared with the small shopping center.

Diner Review №40

A cute Robot brings your food so get your camera ready..

Diner Review №41

Came here right as they opened (highly suggest to go earlier than later. Limited parking and lots of traffic otherwise). Ordered khao poon, lots of flavor and creamy. Papaya salad was good (downside; I can tolerate spice and the highest spice level didn’t meet my expectations but that’s just me personally). I liked that they had variety of papaya salad styles and fermented is a must! Additionally, they sell dried pork skin and it’s really good. My family and I loved it! More expensive ($15 per bag). Overall, I would recommend to give this place a try. The area is not so great but don’t let that fool you! Going back next time to try other items. Side note; portions are big so that’s a plus!

Enjoy!

Diner Review №42

I'll give my honest review about our visit today with the good & bad.

Good: Today was our first time coming here, the food was amazing, it was to the point my younger brother even finished the broth from his kao piak which speaks volume in our household, mother enjoyed the lao famous plate, and the crab fried rice that I had was good too.

Bad: This was towards the end of dinner when we finished our meal, we ordered a couple of drinks and a side order of sausage to go. The issue was it took a little over 20 minutes to essentially get everything before we left. It was slowly getting busy since people were trickling in, but little after the 10 minute mark we still havent gotten our drinks or to go order, then I see this customer walk up to the cashier order herself a sugarcane drink that took less then a minute for her to recieve while we were still waiting at the table for ours, this part upsetted me but we eventually got the drinks, then we ask for the status of the lao sausage and had to wait an extra 10 minutes. At this point I got impatient that I had to take a quick smoke break outside to calm my nerves, but after I came back in my family were still waiting, but not to long after we were told 3 more minutes for the dish, we eventually got our meal and left. My family may have enjoyed the meal, but I didn't like the fact we waited over 20 minutes to get a couple of small ticket items, plus we werent rude when we visited. If time permits I would like to visit this place again and update the review, but as of right now this was our first visit, and it left a bad impression on me.

Diner Review №43

So saap is one of the best thai/lao restaurants in San Diego. I love that they have a variety of dishes, some with a separate thai or lao version such as the papaya salad.

The presentation of the food is great, and the service dining in was quick and attentive. They have a lao style pho that is one of the most unique dishes I've had, and is very different from a typical vietnamese pho- a little more funky.

They offer great lunch meal sets and a weekday happy hour that I love to take advantage of.

Overall, the extensive menu has something for everyone at a very reasonable price, comparable with most highly rated thai restaurants in the area. Their catering party trays also seem like a great deal!

Diner Review №44

My wife and family are Thai. We were visiting Cali and just happened upon this place near some Asian food stores. Man do they deliver authentic Thai food just like being there! We loved it!

Diner Review №45

Very authentic food. Not very spicy.

Diner Review №46

I should really say this place sucks so that you guys won't come and crowded up my favorite Laos restaurant. But in all honesty, this place is a gem. Please don't come.

Diner Review №47

I'm Lao and quite disappointed...food is great!!! But service is terrible ...beer pricing is ridiculous high...where did ban Lao relocate to please let me know

Diner Review №48

We ordered so much food and it came put fast and delicious, also the service was great 👍

Diner Review №49

Delicious food. Papaya salad was spicy, boat noodle broth was flavorful without any additional condiments and the coconut cane drink was refreshing.

Diner Review №50

We had some of the best Thai food for that we have eaten at So Saap. Can't wait to come back to San Deigo. The service was very up beat and friendly and well tell everyone that this is the plac to get Thai food

Diner Review №51

Amazing food and flavor! Staff super friendly.

Diner Review №52

So Saap's interior was very nice. It looks recently renovated. The food was amazing. The portions were average. We ordered 7 dishes for 6 people with leftovers. I appreciate that they have a spice rack to personalize the spice level since we were sharing family style. The servers were very attentive and friendly.

Diner Review №53

So Saap is a must-visit for Thai food lovers! What really had me mesmerized was the sugar cane drink. Love, love, love it! The flavors are authentic, and every dish is crafted to perfection. If you’re looking for a delightful culinary experience, So Saap is the place to be!

Diner Review №57

Delicious lunch at So Saap! Very authentic Thai and Lao ambiance, loved the vibe and dishware. We started with a papaya salad with raw salmon. For entrees we had 1 fish platter with tilapia and the crabmeat fried rice. Everything tasted great. The service was excellent, very friendly and the food came out quickly. Definitely recommend!

Diner Review №58

Wow! If you want authentic Lao food, please dine here! The atmosphere was amazing, the servers were friendly, but most importantly, the food was delicious! Reminded me of home cooking =]

Diner Review №64

I came here with my family. We were greater warmly. The food was amazing! We ordered both Thai and Laotian dishes. We are happy with the food flavor and quality. Would highly recommend to those who want authentic and delicious Lao-Thai food.

Diner Review №65

Diner Review №66

Fantastic service, cute decor and the food was fantastic. The Lao papaya salad transported me back to Laos and the lunch special is a good value. Can't wait to try the other dishes!

Diner Review №67

This Lao and Thai restaurant is very good. I like that they serve authentic homestyle Lao meals. The aesthetic is super cute and up my alley. Don't mind the neighborhood. I prefer hole in the wall restaurants anyways. The Lao food here hits the spot and the servers are always nice.

My favorite things to order from here are the Lao sausages, sugar cane drinks, kaopoon chicken noodles soup, Lao bamboo soup, mok pa, and the Lao famous plate. Extra spicy Lao papaya salad was the best with raw blue crabs! Can't wait to try their fish panh next too. Please add kua mee or pad Lao to the menu! Other restaurants would not make it right.

Diner Review №68

I would not recommend So Saap because it doesn't seem that the staff makes safety a priority. I had the scare of my life when my child was exposed to a food she is severely allergic to after notifying and reminding the server of the allergen many times. We were visiting close by and decided to try their food. As soon as we were seated, I notified the server of my child's allergen. Since it was part of side dishes and the main dish itself wasn't made of the item, I requested that it be removed from our orders to prevent direct exposure or cross contamination for the safety of the child with the severe alllergy. The first time the server brought our food, the sibling's plate had the allergen in the same bowl as the rest of her food. It was very obvious! I notified the server and she offered to make her another plate. However, unbeknownst to me, the dressing that was spread over the salad which had the allergen on it as well, was added to the plates of both children who ordered almost the same dish. Thank God the child with the severe allergy was starting with her protein when I realized that the server did exactly the contrary of what I kindly requested. Since the server wasn't around, I notified another staff member at the cashier. She responded with such nonchalance that I decided that I no longer trusted them to "make another plate". I spoke with Carrie, the owner, and shared with her the seriousness of such incidents which have caused some people their lives unfortunately. She seemed to understand and offered to make it a free meal for me which I declined. It is not about the money. It is about a negligent disregard to health safety that almost had me use my daughter's epipen followed by a trip to the hospital to say the least if she had eaten the salad on her plate. I really hope that So Saap management takes the time to train their staff about the seriousness of food allergies. I am so grateful to God that I remained diligent and re-inspected my children's food despite telling the server more than twice about the allergen and to take it off our orders.

Diner Review №69

visiting from out of town and was highly recommended by a friend and let me tell you, 10/10!! had to get it one last time before leaving town and my order kind of messed up due to me not hearing the lady correctly on the phone…i felt bad because they had already made the order and normally i wouldn’t even bother but i wanted the khao piek so baddd…she was nice enough to take it off and got the order in for me! i’m so happy and sad that i won’t be able to get this at home. highly recommended

Diner Review №70

Food was good but customer service was rushed an really seemed like she didn't wanna be there. If you don't like your job leave 😒 it's simple.

Diner Review №71

Diner Review №72

SOO GOOD! Came across this place while visiting from Stockton. Would drive 7 hours again to come eat here. As a south east asian person, these dishes are very well made and close to home. The Nam Tok, orange fried rice, and Pad Thai were my personal favorites; there are definitely some amazing flavors and dishes that are hard to come by. Servers are so polite and fast , they even make sure you don't forget your personal items before you leave! If you are someone who enjoys Thai & Lao dishes, this place will not disappoint!

Diner Review №73

Service can be slow when it’s a full house, but overall amazing foods and worth the wait! They now serve alcohol, which is a bonus.

Second time here. First time was for dinner and this time for lunch. Everything was delicious just as before. I really enjoy the perfectly fresh and crispy vegetables in their dishes and the many flavors. Lunch specials were great, includes a soup, egg roll, wonton, and salad. I really enjoyed the vegetable soup and got an additional portion to-go (even though it's not actually on the menu). Thai tea and sugar cane drinks were a hit too. Highly recommend and plan to come back. This is one of our fav Thai places.

Diner Review №93

It's a hole in the wall with a fast food pace. One person operation and cashier.
Decent food. Awesome flavor profile.

Diner Review №94

Love this spot. They treat you like family here! I noticed some people newer to Lao food were a little shy by the loud and exciting personality of the owners but reminded me of my aunties lol. Bomb flavor and good value for the portions too!

Diner Review №95

Updating after another visit. The Pad Thai was super dry the first time I went, but the second time was absolutely on point. The Tom Kha was delicious both times.

Diner Review №96

Food was Sensational!! FYI if you order for pick up ask for napkins and utensils cause they don’t provide them as courtesy.

Diner Review №97

I ordered the red curry and Tom kha soup because it's my favorite when I'm not feeling well. The dishes did not disappoint! They arrived fast and the price was tasty, too. Spicy level 1 is all you need, unless you are part dragon.

Diner Review №98

My favorite thai/lao place! Everything here is really good, from their catfish to soups to curry.

Diner Review №99

Diner Review №100

Food is delicious here, and I found the dishes more authentic and full flavor compared to others. Lao papaya salad was amazing. Our server was knowledgeable and made good recommendations. Would definitely come again.

Diner Review №101

Newly opened Lao-Thai restaurant!
Cool vibe with hip interior design(compare to other restaurants in this area...)
Spacious dining area with HUGE tables and comfortable booth.

Get the cococane drinks! You won't regret it. Coconut water mixed with cane sugar drinks. Healthy, delicious, great before meal

Must order: kapoon chicken noodle soup! This heavenly delicious soup noodle with coconut, lemongrass soup base that reminds me of tom kha soup. Very flavorful soup base. It is mixed with chicken chunks, chicken feet, pork blood?, and vegetables. OUT OF THE WORLD good.

If you like fish, muk fish dish was excellent. Mouthful of fish with different spices and herbs. Taste wonderful with the side spices they provide.

I personally am not a fan of the laos favorite dish. It was too much salty meat and the laos papaya salad was too salty for me(don't get me wrong I LOVE fish sauce but it is a little more salty than I can handle.)

Will come back and try the fried chicken that everyone raves about.

Diner Review №102

The food in this restaurant is just very good!! Whole new different flavors it’s simply amazing. One have to try the food themselves because there’s no description to how good and refreshingly new the flavors are. I would surely be back!😋😋😋😋

Diner Review №103

Food was incredible and staff was very helpful!

Diner Review №104

Phad Thai and green curry 🙌🏽

Diner Review №105

Delicious Thai and Laos food that isn't your typical menu. Everything is full of flavor and also beautiful to look at.

Diner Review №106

I’m a vegetarian. They have the best green curry I’ve ever had. My boyfriend got the drunken noodles, and he really liked it. We also got the taro cococane drink and it was delicious. Lots of vegan and vegetarian options. The server was very nice. Definitely coming back!

Diner Review №107

Amazing! Not too familiar with this cuisine, but my crew and I ordered an enormous variety of dishes, all of which were stunning.

Diner Review №108

Pad Thai was mind blowing

Diner Review №109

Diner Review №110

Waited 40 minutes for a to go order of nam khao pork, which would have been fine…but I watched two dine-in tables who walked in 20 minutes after I ordered get their food and finish eating before I got my food. When I finally got my food, there was a bunch of raw pork in it.

Diner Review №111

Love that I’m able to get Thai and Laotian dishes that are hard to find in the USA. Also the best pad Thai I have had in San Diego. I make my own pad Thai from scratch (my own sauce and all) often, and like this place even more than my mom’s pad Thai sauce recipe.

Diner Review №112

This place is good. Really good

Diner Review №113

This place is ok, esthetically they serve amazing looking dishes! They are so pretty, you almost don’t want to eat them. My favorite foods were the summer rolls, the chicken skewers and the Lao sausage. Biggest disappointment was the beef jerky and the pad see ew.

Diner Review №114

Me and my and my son definitely enjoyed the food here. This is clearly one of the best me and my son ever had. The worker here treated me and my son amazing and felt welcomed. We are definitely coming back here soon. Thank you so saap for a wonderful service experience Here. To all the viewers of my reviewers. Please give this restaurant a try. You will never be disappointed. It's one of the best in city heights san diego ☺️😋.

Diner Review №117

Casual. Reasonable prices, great service, fast food, delicious cuisine with unique dishes not seen in other restaurants. Especially good deal on lunch deal!

Diner Review №118

We were the last customer that arrived and the server was more than happy to accommodate us. The food arrived as soon as we arrived because we called ahead for the orders. The presentation was astonishing, and it felt like home because of their authentic presentation of southeast Asian cuisines. We had the Thai basil rice, fried pork belly, and my new personal favorite their catfish rice dish. It was the right amount of spice, seasoning, and texture. Will be looking forward to come back for more, and hopefully earlier next time.

Diner Review №119

Reminds me of the food I ate in Thailand!!
Love the presentation, decor, family style of the restaurant. The menu is big: can order many appetizers, sweet drinks (sugarcane, boba), noodle dishes, soups (tom yum, noodle), and rice dishes. Plenty of vegan and vegetarian options.

Papaya salad was very good and spicy (we ordered a level and it was pretty spicy). Pad see ew noodles very tender and flavorful.

10/10 on the lemongrass fried chicken!!! Mmmm love the thin crunchy exterior, so light yet crispy!! Meat was very juicy as well.

10/10 on the crab cheese wontons!!! One of the best I've had. This place knows how to fry lightly.

Cococane drink tasty and refreshing, not too sweet. Just how I like it.

I'd come back to try a lot of their other dishes. Great place to share a meal with a friend.

Diner Review №120

Diner Review №121

Best food I had in 2023. The flavors of the Lao dishes made me rethink how food ought to be made.

Diner Review №122

I came here to try Lao food for the first time and was not disappointed. We ordered a variety of dishes which were all delicious. My favorite was the lemon grass chicken and the beef jerky. The sugar cane beverages are also very refreshing and are served in a large quantity. Their spicy scale is a bit skewed to the spicy side, so beware that level 2/5 is still quite hot. I am eager to return to try new dishes.

Diner Review №123

If you're looking for Laotian food (and Thai of course) in San Diego then So Saap is my highly recommended option! Great pricing and the food is amazing everytime I've had it.

Diner Review №124

This has been a great option since they recently opened! Good selection of vegan options and they make the sugarcane drinks right there!

Diner Review №125

Tasty, creative menu, and very vegan friendly

Diner Review №126

This restaurant has vegan and non vegan dishes, with about half the menu being vegan. We tried 6 dishes among our large group and everything was really great. We especially liked the vegan Nam Khao. We will definitely be back very soon!

Diner Review №127

My experience was so bad that I will never return to this place. To start, no one attended to us the first 10 minutes of arriving at the restaurant. Then, my friend (Thai) and I arrived before 2 more tables, it seemed like they were frequent customers because with great preference and discrimination they took their order before and served them and their food as well. For us it took 45 minutes plus the first 10 sitting, to be able to eat. So if you go without time and during office hours, it is not recommended at all!!

Subsequently, the food did not have a great flavor, the rolls were super greasy and seemed to have been fried in very old oil, it did not seem fresh and the portions were very, very small. The size of the portion was even funny because initially we went for the lunch menu, then the waitress insisted that those orders were small and that we better order from the regular menu, we take she’s advised and the result was the same I think compared to the photos 😅 completely fooled!! Apart from the fact that when I got home my stomach hurt a lot and I had diarrhea.

When paying the bill we were also surprised by an extra charge of $1.50 for ordering tea without ice. From my point of view if you put the price on the menu that is the price you should charge, the ice is optional!! It is a theft, suggestion learn about accounting and costing before putting established prices on a menu.

We definitely do not recommend this place!!

Diner Review №128

Delicious food. Relaxing atmosphere. Friendly employees.

Diner Review №129

Some of the most delicious pad thai, curry, and papaya salad I've ever had. Delicious vegan menu

Diner Review №130

Diner Review №131

Very good Lao food and quick service for a big party we had.

Diner Review №132

Diner Review №133

I walked inside no one would speak to me. I was waiting for my order. No one would help me. I had to scream for help and then the lady turned around. I do not like that customer service. Not sure if it’s because I am black or are they just rude

Diner Review №134

The food here is great and also the cane juice drinks are addictive. This is also the friendliest place around. I highly recommend. Go here.

Diner Review №135

Their pad see ew was so good! They also have some of the best mock chicken I’ve tasted

Diner Review №136

We decided to give So Saap a try, and we're thrilled we did! It's a delightful addition to the options for Thai and Laotian cuisine in our area. To start, we ordered the crab cream cheese wontons, and they were an absolute delight – perfectly crunchy and packed with delicious flavors.

For our soups, we tried both the Tom Yum and the Tom Kha. As someone who can't handle spicy food, I opted for the non-spicy Tom Kha, which was wonderfully creamy and rich. The Tom Yum, set at a spice level of 3, had a comforting blend of flavors and aromatics that left us thoroughly satisfied.

Moving on to our main courses, we chose the Pad Thai with mock chicken and the classic version. The portion sizes were generous, and we were delighted to have leftovers for later.

The drink selection was equally impressive. I opted for a Thai milk tea, which was a perfect balance of sweetness without overwhelming the delicate Thai tea flavors. The calamansi with sugar cane was another hit, offering a well-balanced sweetness that wasn't overly sugary.

I'm pleased to have discovered a go-to spot for refreshing drinks, conveniently located close to Kensington. Plus, the availability of parking is always a bonus. So Saap has definitely won us over with its delicious food and excellent service.

- Nam Kao (my fav)
- Tom Yum Shrimp
- Waterfall steak salad (Nam tok)
- Laos sausages
- sticky rice
- fried spare ribs?
- Lemon Grass chicken
Drinks:
-Green Thai tea (amazing)
- Coco-cane (amazing)
- Thai tea
Everything was so delicious!!! Will definitely go back for more.

Amazing place to come eat! They have a GIANT menu aswell! Tons of variety, and they have TONS of seating! If you have a large group, this is your place! They are fast and kind! I l9ve coming here! I just get kinda sketched by the bars on the windows, just making the place feel like a prison. But I understand it's not the best area.. amazing food and amazing service, tho!!!

The ladies who work there were very kind and welcoming !!! The food was super good - I had the yellow curry and it was honestly the best curry I’ve had in awhile! Super grateful to have found this hidden gem :)

Diner Review №148

The sweetest people! Incredible customer service that made us smile every time they came to our table. Food was amazing as well. Got a vegan yellow curry which was perfect. I ordered 4/5 spicy and it was still very mild, but after adding some chili oil that they had on the side, it was exactly what I wanted! All the gold dishes and silverware is such a fun aesthetic. Can’t wait to visit again!

Saw instagram photos of this place and wanted to try it. Meant to go to Ban Lao but realized they closed and now the restaurant is So Saap.

The food did not disappoint at all. We ordered so much food (did not take photos of all the food). Ordered pad Thai, Laos papaya, dark and funky papaya, boat noodle, Laos pho, chicken wings, beef larb, Thai beef salad, and nam khao. Highly recommend the papaya! Both were delicious and right amount of seasoning. The dishes were placed in beautiful plates. Esthetically pleasing! (Only downfall is it was extremely hot inside the restaurant, but made me feel like I was in Laos or Thailand 🤪). Would 100% go eat here again.

Food is delicious and well prepared. Excellent service and food was ready (nice and hot)
They're working on getting their AC.

Yesterday I ordered with delivery orders and after I ate their food. I got diarrhea right 30 mins since I'm finished eating their food. To be honest, I haven't eat anything else from the restaurant a week already. I was always made my fresh food and Now when I tried to order from the restaurant so I picked them and after I ate their food I got diarrhea right 30 mins after. Not sure they used fresh ingredients or old ingredients because if it's not fresh ingredients my body will have infections right away. So I guess, my order isn't fresh then. Also, I called them to let them know what the issues is, but the owner never give me any calls back. Won't be back with them ever again.

Diner Review №161

Very good food.

Diner Review №162

Good service from the sweet young lady. However, the food is just okay at best. The pad Thai isn’t great. The fried chicken basal fried rice also wasn't very good. Saw minimal meat. Portions are smaller than 55 Thai kitchen, and prices aren’t fantastic. Prices just aren’t aren’t entirely fair for location or portions.

Diner Review №163

This is the most authentic Thai/Lao restaurant I’ve found in San Diego. It’s true Isaan food. The spicy Lao sausages are simply unreal! The Nam Tok is also top tier. This isn’t your typical Americanized Thai/Lao restaurant, it’s unique and brings all the flavor and spices. Simply perfect.

Diner Review №164

Delicious, authentic Thai and Laos food. Must visit when you love this dishes. Very kindly people.

Diner Review №165

Excellent Thai food! The yellow curry and Pad Thai were A+. Would recommend.

The Cane sugar drink (taro) reminded me of Halo Halo!

Diner Review №166

It's about the food here. The vibe is nothing special but they focus on the food. Did I mention it's good? Very good. Very authentic Thai and Laotian food, friendly people, and family owned.

Diner Review №167

Vegan friendly without sacrificing flavor. Super legit! Tastes like something my friends mamas be making when I was in high school. The good stuff.

Also super friendly and they seem to be good at recognizing their repeat customers… I think I go here too much or not enough.

The drinks are out of this world. So damn good. Can’t get this quality anywhere else in San Diego!

The food was ordered 4/5 spicy but it wasn't very spicy. I have a strong tolerance so that might be why. However, while awaiting my order, I witnessed some extremely unprofessional behavior from the middle aged woman there. She was verbally berating a young worker within full view of myself and other customers. If an employee needs to be reprimanded, do so in a private area like a back office, not in front of customers. This woman complained to the young woman quite loudly that her actions could cause her to lose customers. I'm sorry, but after witnessing that, I won't be returning because I can't reward such obnoxious and petulant behavior.

Lady, you are Thai. It's in your culture to save face and not publicly embarrass yourself and others by publicly displaying your inability to emotionally self-regulate when something is bothering you. You owe this younger woman a deep wai for embarrassing her and yourself. Kreng jai!

We got a couple dishes but everything was so good!! Lovely dinner, thank you so much.

Diner Review №175

I love Thai food and I’ve eaten a ton of it all over the country since the 90s. This spot is a gem! The pad ka prow was delicious, the ingredients tasted fresh & healthy, the staff were super nice and the price was good too. I will definitely go back if I have the chance.

Diner Review №176

Real deal, glad I found this hole in the wall spot 💯 drunken noodles and 2 sticky rice 🍚🍚 🥢🍜 😋

Diner Review №177

Best papaya salad I had in a long time.. I actually perfer the stinky funky papaya more than the pop Loa style but both were on point! Best Kapoom I had in a long time. It was perfectly coconut flavored just how I prefer!! Yum yum! Loa sausage, chicken wings and laab was great too!.. Definitely will come back here when I come into town again!

So Saap is tucked away in a small shopping center and not easy to see. Definitely definitely come here and get the lemon grass fried chicken wings, so delicious. They also have an array of sugarcane drinks which I wish I tried, I got a Thai tea which was good but I should have branched out. The Lao famous plate is a good option if you want to sample a bunch of items, I really liked the papaya salad (lao style made spicy) and the Lao sausage.

Great Thai, great prices, great portions. Love this place I’ll be coming back.

Diner Review №189

Wow, where do I begin. I came here from a recommendation and I cannot explain how happy I was to try it myself.

Real authentic flavors and fresh made-to-order dishes. The fried fish with the fresh herbs, noodle, was amazing but sadly they ran out of the pineapple sauce (no problem tho). The drunken noodles were a huge portion and perfectly cooked, seasoned, and had fresh veggies and beef. HIGHLY recommend the dark-looking papaya salad as it had that delicious FUNK. Lastly, the Lao Famous plate had a bunch of goodies, but the Lao sausage was the star of the show in my opinion.

All in all, it was busy (understandably) but service was very friendly and you can tell they made the food with love. I can't wait to go back when I'm in SD to try their other dishes. Try it yourself if you get the chance.

The food, the drinks the service- everything was top notch! I ordered carry out since I was in a time crunch but I was so pleasantly surprised with how everything tasted. I’m the pickiest when it comes to Lao/thai food and this place did not disappoint. Highly recommend the spicy drunken noodles as well as the Kow Piek Sen. can’t wait to try everything else on the menu!

This food is 🔥🔥🔥 when I saw the location I knew the food was going to be good 👍 😋

Diner Review №195

We were so hyped up for this place since we love Lao food! We asked for spicy level 4/5 and also got their spiciest sauce, both were mild for us. We ordered their mama’s specials too… but tasted more Americanized. Over all try it for yourself, our taste buds are different.

Diner Review №197

The absolute best Lao food and fresh air atmosphere indoors ! Loved it and could be there everyday!!!

Diner Review №198

Best, Authentic Lao foods you can find in SD ❤️

Diner Review №199

The food is great but the last few times I've been here the portion for the beef jerky and sticky rice are very small and the quality wasnt the best unfortunately I've been going here ever since I was a kid and I still go rarely because of these experiences of the portions become less and less and the quality not being as best I really hope they improve I specifically only get beef jerky and sticky rice. I love it but the portion of beef rice is small the the sticky rice is really delicious but the last few times smelled like bleach I apologize for this review but I hope this is a heads up for improvement from a customer that misses yall no hate just love .
