Vegetarian renditions of Thai dishes, offered with wine & Asian beer in polished, modern environs.
One of the best things about getting to the West Coast or larger cities is being able to find good vegan and vegetarian food. I was really impressed with this place and in particular with the crispy duck. As a prior meat eater, I love it when someone gets really close to the real thing with vegan food And they did it with the crispy duck. Everything we ate was excellent and the wait staff were fantastic. Definitely recommend!
Amazing vegetarian restaurant, loved all of the food! We ordered the sampler which came with vegan chicken satay, flower cups, cheesy wontons, and spring rolls. I really enjoyed the chicken satay, but maybe it’s best by itself and not in a sampler plate since it had a few big pieces, but most of it were tiny and couldn’t taste the chicken, but just the fried bits. I think with a bigger quantity they would offer more of the chicken in the chicken satay. Overall, still glad I got to enjoy many of the appetizers. I recommend all the appetizers, but maybe not the spring rolls since it wasn’t special. Loved the spicy noodles with vegan chicken, would get it again! The duck larb was also great to try! It comes with plain rice, but maybe ask for an upgrade like pineapple fried rice if possible. White rice didn’t have enough flavor. Overall, I enjoyed the food and would come back again if in the area. Great vegetarian options
Service was fantastic. Everything we ordered showed up within a minute. We found that very interesting. Staff also works as a team so we always had access to someone.
Foood was fantastic, area is cute and charming
Do yourself a favor and get the mango sticky rice for dessert, it's fantastic here.
The food was very good . We tried the first time before we got back to our hotel, and we said, "Why not try it, right?" We ordered Duck or was it chicken vegan satay 4 for the meal, we ordered Yellow curry with crispy vegan duck and the yellow curry with vegan beef. We loved it so much that we came back the second day , our last day in San Diego. We tried the big noodles soup with crispy duck . It was sooo good and tasty. For vegan and vegetarian. This is highly recommended restaurant.
This vegetarian restaurant in San Diego is a must-try! With a diverse menu full of delicious dishes for both kids and adults, it caters to all tastes. My husband, a non-vegetarian, was impressed and eager to return. The service was friendly, quick, and attentive, always ensuring our needs were met. We loved it so much we visited twice during our three-day stay. Highly recommend for anyone, vegetarian or not!
Great food!! Ordered the eggplant, spicy noodles, pad Thai and pineapple fried rice. We finished everything, it was so yummy. Finished with the gluten free chocolate cake, definitely decadent. Will return when we're in town. Service was quick and friendly. Love this place.
Thai base cuisine. First time here and it was so good! Let me preference this by saying I am a regular meat eater lol, but I don’t mind having a plant based meal here and there! My family kept telling me about this place and I was very happy to finally go especially with it right around the way from my house. I ordered a Larb dish (crispy duck) come with a side of sticky rice & even though texture wise it wasn’t exactly like ground up larb it didn’t miss at all ! The Flavor is on point and you can adjust it to your spice level (I got level 4 this time around since our table was kind of doing family style ,but normally I go a little bit spicier. ) it was just soo good 🤤. Seating inside the restaurant can be a little snug especially when they are a full house, they do offer outside seating. Customer service is fast & professional. Parking can be a little tricky (there’s no lot) it’s mainly street parking & if you don’t mind a little walk you can always park along the neighborhood streets surrounding the businesses just please READ the parking signs cause meter maids do not play around in that area. This will definitely be a new place for us to order takeout from ! Per normal weekends are busy.
Excellent vegetarian Thai. You won’t miss the meat! Great Tom Kah and Zen soup. Mock duck noodle dish, panang curry and fried tofu and rice dish good. Tsing Tao beer on tap. Appetizer variety. Good service, good atmosphere. All around good food and good experience.
The food is so fresh and tasty. Great restaurant!
Updated review: This used to be a favorite of mine. They recently remodeled and have since not only made their portions so small (think "nouvelle cuisine"), but jacked up their prices like it was Beverly Hills. Two pieces of something for $15!! I'm never going back.
Great food by great people!
Horrible service. Felt like the staff was doing us a favor. Will never return. Avoid
First, this review is overdue from our trip to San Diego last summer.
Two, my Honey is not fond of Thai food. I understand you may be wondering, so why go to a Thai restaurant? One, because I like it and two, because sometimes I can nudge him to be a bit more adventurous.
With that said, I read good things about this spot, and that they have dog-friendly outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is literally on the sidewalk, very narrow (each table seats two), with chairs on the uncomfortable side if you're a "fat-bottomed girl."
I digress. The food and service, right? YAS!
We stayed in IB for almost a week and dined here twice and both times the food was served hot, ample portioned, and foodgasmic! What's more, the Honey (you know, the one who is not fond of Thai food) LOVED it so much that he recommended we return for a second time!
What did we have you ask? More like, what didn't we have! Fresh starts included spring rolls, "chicken" satay, and crispy tofu. As for the latter, I was befuddled at how light, airy and non-greasy they were - simple yet delicious. Their Tom Yum soup was other-worldly - just the right amount of heat, complex flavors, and thoroughly belly warming.
Spicy noodles and pad thai rounded out our entrees, and trust me when I recommend the tempura vegan chicken with the pad thai.
The service was friendly and welcoming, allowing us to linger and love over our food.
I have never felt this unwelcome in a restaurant before. The male waiter was pretty rude, he didn’t even help me find a table when I first got there. The waitress was dismissive and rude when I asked a question. The food was pretty mediocre. I will not be returning.
Extremely poor service.
We were so put off by it that we finished our appetizer and then walked out to the thai restaurant across the street to get our lunch.
I recently visited Plumeria and while the portions were generous, that was about the only positive aspect of the experience. The food was mediocre - not terrible but nothing worth writing home about.
What really soured the experience was the service. Most of the servers were friendly. One of the servers, dressed in short shorts, was particularly unfriendly and seemed to be in a rush, offering no hospitality whatsoever. The most troubling moment came when we were leaving — he made an unsettling kicking motion toward my service dog. This behavior was not only uncalled for but also highly inappropriate, especially in a setting that should be welcoming to all customers, including those with service animals.
I won’t be returning :)
My wife and I are obsessed with this place. We used to live a couple blocks away and would walk up here at least once a week. Now that we live across town we still find ourselves driving over to enjoy they delicious vegetarian (mostly vegan) menu. The crispy mock duck is fantastic but you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Friendly staff and great ambiance!

Really good vegan thai food - the fried rice was amazing.

Loved the larb and spicy noodles. My kids liked the satay
The waitress kept rushing us out
Food is always amazing. Wouldn't belive it was not the real thing... Service and atmosphere is great as well
Excellent Thai food, and I’m not even vegan
Delicious food and very big portions!
One of the best Thai places I have ever visited!
Extremely friendly service! my fiance and i walked in with a group of 7 other people and they accommodated us so quickly! Servers were nice and even surprised the table with a birthday treat! food was delicious and most items were vegan. would definitely eat there again.

I have been ordering takeout from Plumeria for years and I dined in for the first time today and was pretty disappointed with the food and service. I ordered soup that was cold to the touch and not the usual flavorful soup I receive when I get takeout from them.
Additionally, my table was charged an automatic gratuity even though we were a party of 5, not 6.
Loved it every time!!
Good Thai vegetarian, would come back again.
One thing:
they can work on there pad Thai noodles, they were to chewy.
I ordered level 5 spice, that is a good level if you want more flavor and not excessive heat.
Also it was very very cold, at least at the table we sat at.
Best Thai in San Diego
Delicious food with nice presentation. Great employees, as they are very kind.
Their minds will break if you try to do a simple ingredient swap
I usually pick up. It can get crowded. BUT FOR GOOD REASON! I love love plumeria. I have given this to me friends and family that eat meat regularly, and they love it. Highly recommend.
The food was very good . We tried the first time before we got back to our hotel, and we said, "Why not try it, right?" We ordered Duck or was it chicken vegan satay 4 for the meal, we ordered Yellow curry with crispy vegan duck and the yellow curry with vegan beef. Delicious!!!
One of the best Vegan friendly option in San Diego!

I was...not at all impressed with the food here. It's very simple to the point where I felt like I could've made it myself from some store bought noodles and frozen vegetables for a tenth of the cost. The service was good though they were very mindful in how they packaged things to keep it at the right temperature.
so amazing to try traditional thai dishes as a vegetarian, the minced duck larb was so flavorful
6/5
Delicious food! The appetizers and my meal were both great. I love all the options of vegan meats! The spicy noodle was delicious.
I almost never leave bad reviews but yesterday we did have a bad experience here. Our male server was pretty rude and unfriendly when asked basic questions about the menu. My friend tried to use the restroom and he yelled, “customers only!” When he had been seeing our table for over an hour at that point. We waited for someone to take our check for quite awhile. The dish he recommended, (deep fried tofu with broccoli) was inedible, although my friends dishes looked really great. Disappointed and won’t be back.
We liked food however customer service is really poor.
Crispy soy duck and noodles were great
Service was fantastic. Everything we ordered showed up within a minute. We found that very interesting. Staff also works as a team so we always had access to someone.
Foood was fantastic, area is cute and charming
Do yourself a favor and get the mango sticky rice for dessert, it's fantastic here.
Excellent food, excellent service. Outstanding green curry. Love the cool vibe ambiance of University Heights.
Delicious! Soup, salad, egg rolls, entrees ALL so good!!
Food is exceptional and tasty, you won't believe it is vegan because you will be savoring every bite. Definitely a local hot spot that is unique to its own.
Everything is amazingly delicious! The vegan duck panang curry is the best.
Food was amazing. I have been to other all vegetarian restaurants but this one has blown it out of the water.
All the food was amazing and the drinks were really good. One of my favorites was the appetizer sampler so I didnt have to pick which appetizer to get, i could get all of them.
Spice level was also like asian spice so come warned! I can handle spice and the medium level had me sweating.
5/5 would recommend and come back here
I came here with my friend for a chill evening hang and dinner in the neighborhood after a weekend of heavy meat and oil. It was chill, the staff were welcoming and nice, and the environment on the sidewalk seating at 7:30p on a summer day was amazing, but gosh the food was… disappointing. Every single dish we ordered, including the drink, had at least some issues. The best order was the Crispy Duck, which was refreshingly herbal and flavorful until you got to the bottom when the lime got too sour and its juice made everything at the bottom layer inedible. The sticky rice, though warm in the aluminum foil, was hard and stale, as if being left for too long after cooked. The Pad Thai was also a bit too sour, the crunchy peanut was good but overall not close to how a regular pad Thai tastes. The seaweed salad had a weird taste like some artificial sauce that did not blend at all with the rest of the ingredients, and the sesame seeds that’s listed on the menu was non existent. The Thai Coffee gave barely any taste of espresso, just the oat milk. We’d like to think the rest of their menu, like their curries, are good, but overall, we will likely not go back
Best of the best of the best, no one does it better. Coconut crispy rice salad is the greatest way to start, everything is top tier 🌸
We got spicy noodles, panang curry and thai coffee. Everything was delicious!
One of my favorite restaurants in San Diego. Delicious food affordably priced.
Always busy , food is good highly recommend. If it’s busy that’s a good sign

Fabulous vegetarian Thai place. So tasty and satisfying!
Long one of our favorites in SD! Great food, service and atmosphere 👌
Get the crispy rice special if you like bold flavor. It's incredible.
One of my favorite places. Parking can be a bit troublesome oftentimes, but I still love this place.
Excellent gluten free pad see yu noodles, fried items are cross contaminated so if you have celiac then non fried items are menu are recommended (staff will point out which items are fried)
Cramped atmosphere, but the food was easily the best I've had this year. Exceptional, deep and layered, this is the height of vegan food.
My favorite.thai restaurant ever. This.is vegan heaven. Then"chicken"satay, the curries, the soups, pad thai etc it is all perfect. And the staff is A+
Came back after years gone. Still the best Thai food I've ever had. I'd say the Satay is better than before. Red and Yellow curry, spectacular. Fried rice ,pad see ew, Flower cups (amazing), fried tofu, mango sticky rice, coconut and vanilla ice cream. AAAAAAAAA+++++. Clean and outstanding service. Thank you!
This might be my favorite vegan/vegetarian food place in SD. My non-vegan friends go here even when I'm not with them because the food is just so good. I love pretty much anything I order from here, but my favorite is the basil fried rice or see-ew with tofu or mock duck.
Plumeria is a MUST for all you Vegan and vegetarians out there. And their flourless, gluten free chocolate cake is to die for! Come on I dare you to try their mock meats. Delicious!!
This Plumeria I visited is at University Heights. There is a Plumeria in Encinitas as well. 👍🏼👆🏼😜
Mock duck larb ftw
I just absolutely love Plumeria. The food is really delicious, the service is always great, and every time I have gone for lunch there is a table available! They bring the food out fairly quickly as well. This last time I got the special duck noodle soup and I still dream about it. Parking can be a bit rough in the area but I can usually manage to find a spot nearby or at a meter.
first off service was incredible. second, food tasted fresh, full of depth, and unique. They sat our big party and split the check to accommodate the large group. vegan meat tasted sooo good
Good food. If you are a meat lover, like me, they have good options. Not 5 stars because I had better places, but it’s a good option.
Delicious!!
The best vegan Thai food in San Diego!
One of our go to places for Vegan Thai. Our routine order has their tofu flower cups and larb as regular orders and then have one or two entrees. Spicy noodles and pannang curryare great choices. Although, rarely, but the flavours get off with spice level. We tried their cashew entree this time with spice level 3 and it was really missing something. The veggies were little undercooked. We have been to North park and Encinitas branch both and mostly have good experience. The service this time was so off that we have to fetch stuff in own. Also, the seating in Encinitas is better. The north park location has very small tables for two people. It’s a constant struggle to manage two dishes and an appetizer plate with water and chilli oil containers. I was mostly worried that something might just get knocked off the table.
Deliciousness!!!!
The service is super fast, and serving size is just perfect for 1 person. I loved the taste too, be prepared for some wait time at this place. I would recommend trying the flower cups, curry fried rice, and choco lava cake.
Awful ambience:( poor food quality and terrible service. Would never come back.
Such an amazing place! There are curries, noodle and some other options for food! I recommend 100% this place!
Great thai vegan food if you haven't eaten here give it a go. Amazingly tasty food, friendly helpful staff & the duck soup is outstanding
The service here is very poor!
If the tips provided do not meet their expectations, they confront and try to embarrass!
This is highly unacceptable!!
Would not recommend their Thai Tea as well!
Service was quick, host was friendly, and I didn't feel sick.
That being said food was bland, and tasted burnt. Both my wife and I had the same opinion .It had the specific flavor of old over-used cooking oil I would expect from a poor quality American Chinese food place. It is not the flavor I was expecting from a 4.7 star vegetarian Thai food place where a tofu noodle dish costs 20$
Very delicious and plant based! Amazing
Came here 35 mins before closing and was told we could order only to-go food. Not cool, when there were many other people there at the time. Really wish more vegetarian places open late and felt deflated to be told that we can't be seated.
The tuna flower cups were the most insane thing I’ve eaten in a long time. I haven’t had fish in over a decade and so I can’t be trusted really when I say “wow that tastes just like fish!” But my fish eating partner had the same reaction as well. Do not miss that dish! The chicken satay appetizer was also amazing, haven’t had something like that before. Also got the spring rolls and the tangerine chicken dish. The waiter was attentive and really nice, helped us out with our different allergies and restrictions.
Good!
loooove this place! never disappoints me! my fav thing to get there is the cashew nut stirfry with fried tofu 💖 don't forget to get their thai tea too!
Plumeria Restaurant in San Diego exceeded my expectations with its delightful blend of flavors. The extensive vegetarian menu offers a diverse range of dishes, each crafted with precision and creativity. I highly recommend Plumeria for anyone seeking a memorable vegetarian or vegan dining option in San Diego.
We came on a Thursday night and it wasn't crowded (lots of people were at Bahn Thai across the street haha). I got the Rama with "duck" while my friend got the Fresh Ginger with "chicken." I was able to replace the rice with more vegetables free of charge! The portions were massive and the flavors of the dishes were incredible. The peanut sauce of the Rama was perfect, not overwhelming while the Fresh Ginger tasted very Chinese and refreshing.
The "chicken" tasted like processed chicken (not in bad way) while the "duck" didn't taste like duck but it had crunchy sides that mimicked crunchy duck skin which I found impressive. Both meats were very tasty.
These dishes were generously portioned. Really loved this place!
I am a pescatarian. even though I had never love duck dishes before. but I tried The duck noodle soup. It was so good that I end up overdo. I had The best noodle soup in my life. thank you so much. BTW. They were busy but also efficient.
Very good! The "duck" noodles were the best ;)
Love the fake duck soup! These vegetarian options are the best and so creative.
Vegan and vegetarian Thai dishes. Good selection, food was fast out of the kitchen. All “meat” dishes have vegan meat.
The place was hopping busy and the servers were fantastic at keeping up. The food was excellent!
It is one of the best restaurants. Multiple options to choose and food is delicious. My kids prefer non vegetarian, but they love vegetarian chicken and vegan duck.
honestly a pretty good experience, everything was delicious, really friendly staff.
The only thing that really sucked was finding a spot to park in.
but to be honest one of the tastiest vegetarian thai places I've ever been to!
The best VEGAN Thai food around. We are picky when it comes to vegan food, most is too bland or not cooked well. Plumeria hits the mark everytime 10/10 would recommend for kids and adults alike.
We got a to go order and oh my goodness… the food was delicious! We got spicy noodles and lava cake. Highly recommend.
This is my second time visiting Plumeria, eight years apart. Still the same: amazing vegan food, chilled out vibes and fast service. The spring rolls were amazing, and the dips were drool worthy. The ginger tea was piping hot and had a nice zing to it. Top off the food with a delicious mouth water molten lava cake. YUM!!!
Our go-to spot for vegan food. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu whether it's the delicate Flower Cups or the robust noodle dishes. Delicious and consistent in flavor having gone to Plumeria for a great many years now.
It can feel somewhat cramped in there during the dinner rush and not the place for a quiet dinner conversation.
But if you're looking for a consistently delicious vegan experience then move Plumeria to the top of your list.
We went to The Plumeria Vegetarian Restaurant during lunch (12/2023) and the food was just authentic. We've never tasted Thai food at its best, other than in Thailand. We ordered the sampler and my gosh it was delicious. The Rama dish with Tofu was wonderful on the palate. The restaurant is quaint and small/medium sized. I didn't see any place where they can fit a group of 10 to 12 (but you might call to check). Other than that it's a nice ambiance for 2 - 4 to have a great place to eat. Recommend.
What a GEM of a veggie/vegan Thai restaurant. Amazing
I had the Crispy Mock Duck Soup...YUM!😃👍🏾👍🏾
The food is amazing. We had the panang curry, tom kha soup and crispy tamarind tofu.
Very delicious!
Had Tangerine meal and the spring rolls. Sorry, but really bad.
Dry and rubbery.
$37 was a cost out the wi down as we couldn't eat our meals.
I have been going to plumeria for last 10 years . Not sure what happened . If they changed cook or what . Big supporter of panang , the dish lost its flavor. I tried others and not that great . But the Thai food restaurant across the street Bai Thai for sure became popular and food is great . I decided to stop going to plumeria !
I’m a meat eater, and even I really loved this place. Sure fake meat doesn’t taste like meat, but most of the time, I can’t stand it… at Plumeria, it was seasoned and cooked so well that I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The only thing that was disappointing was the satay chicken (faux chicken), it looked more like popcorn chicken. But I’m being picky now!
The hostess at the door was nice but that’s were the niceness ended. There is one older female server here that is very mean and will avoid and ignore you. We were at our table for 2 minutes before the waitress came over. We weren’t ready which appeared to annoy her. She didn’t come back 15/20 minutes even though we made eye contact times. She was standing around and cleaning tables while we sat with no food. Several large tables left after we came in so it was slower. When she returned she acted like she was confused as to why we didn’t have food. She asked if we’d been helped, we said no. She left again and sent another server to take our order. He took the order but she was still the only waiter in our area. She ignored us. She served the tables around us but would quickly walk off after and try not to make eye contact with us. My husband had to get up to ask for service twice. She came to the table once after we got our food to ask if we wanted water. While she was there my husband spilled water. She said she would bring napkins and a sauce we asked for. She left and never came back. 15 minutes later my husband went up to her to ask for the napkins and sauce. She acted like she had no idea what he was talking about. We asked another server who brought it promptly. I could see all the other servers smiling and checking on their guest. The other server we encountered were kind and helpful. The only time anyone asked how our food was, was when they were clearing the plates. The food wasn’t terrible but it was great either. Underwhelming flavors. And they didn’t have much sauce. Only Tamari and chili oil. Ive had much better Thai. I’ve been wanting to come here for a long time. I’m sad the experience was so poor. I won’t return.
Best vegetarian restaurant for you Thai lovers.
Delicious food, good service and excellent location 😋
I am not vegetarian or vegan but this place is so damn good. The "duck" I had with the cashew nut entree was so good, and I got it 8/20 spicy and it was actually pretty hot which was nice. Also got the cream cheese wontons which were amazing, and tried my lady's noodle dish, also great. Highly recommend.
I love this place. It's always on my 'must visit' list when I'm back home in SD. The mock chicken and duck are my favorite proteins. Had a taro tea this time that was yummy & we split a pineapple fried rice & a tangerine dish with the crispy chicken. Great. Consistent. Healthy food. I am not even a vegetarian fyi. Even getting it take out has been a good experience. Parking does suck though, so depending on time of day, be prepared to walk a few blocks.
If you want to fulfill the craving for meat as a recently turned vegetarian, this place is for you, I love the coconut rice salad, and the appetizer sample plate.
We love this place. Their spicy fried rice and panang curry are our favorite. We have tried other curries as well and they are good too.
One of my favorite vegan restaurants to eat at! Food is delicious 😋
The food at Plumeria was outstanding! The service was also great. Highly recommend the tangerine fried tofu.
Really goood. A real treat.
