Named as Thai National Flower in Thai Language, KOON. With a group of young Thais who have over 10 years of Thai Culinary cooking experience, and food services establishment, we set up on the heart of the Asian Community in San Diego, Convoy Street. We do offer the verities of authentic Thai menu besides the popular Thai menu with a modern Thai atmosphere.
Busy lunch spot in the Convoy Asian Cuisine district. A pleasant, smallish restaurant nestled in a strip mall. The food was excellent with a spice level of 0-10. And warnings they use Thai chili's! The whole fried fish dishes are an amazing presentation and the fish is delicious with a crunchy coating. The curry is some of the best I've had and I have a preference for Thai curries.
Koon Thai Kitchen offers a delightful dining experience with authentic Thai flavors and a cozy ambiance. We started with the Spinach Curry Puff, which was flaky and filled with a flavorful curry mix, and the crispy Spring Rolls served with a sweet chili dip. For mains, the spicy Pad Kee Mao stood out with its fiery kick and fresh basil aroma, while the Pad Thai offered a comforting balance of tangy, sweet, and nutty flavors. The highlight was the Red Curry with Mock Duck, rich and aromatic, with the mock duck perfectly absorbing the curry’s flavors. Paired with a refreshing Thai Iced Tea, the meal was a treat for the taste buds. Highly recommend for Thai food lovers!
Delicious Thai restaurant with plenty of food choices and a really fun atmosphere and decor. The staff were attentive and offered good recommendations. We had red curry with chicken, yellow curry with tofu, panang, and fried tofu. It was all perfectly spiced and delicious. We will definitely be back.
We ordered boat noodles, Tom yum noodles, lad na, fried tilapia filet in sweet sauce, drunken noodles, crab fried rice and roti with dipping sauce and fried soft shell crab for appetizers. Everything except lad na and boat noodles were good, not recommending these two. Lad na lack flavor and overwhelm by the starch which thickens the sauce and the boat noodles didn’t taste quite right with the broth. The surprising dish was the roti which came with a curry dipping sauce that was just right. 8 people was $150 + 20% automatic tip and tax = $200.
2nd visit: the fried pork belly noodle was nice, however, the crispy surface soon became hard to chew becoz it was soaked in soup. suggest the restaurant to consider separate the pork with soup so that customer could enjoy the crispy texture
1st visit: noodles were great, tom yum soup was tasty, guess they have put shrimp head/shell to boil tgt, which is classic thai style and not every thai restaurant do the same. great job. must try. pork was dry, good to pair with beer.
The food was fantastic and lives up to the hype would definitely come back. The layout is very good and the menu is huge.
Had a Thai curry noodle dish that was amazing ate every bite. Apparently it was a signature curry sauce they make in house. They also had pineapple fried rice which is one of my favorite fried rice dishes
This place is Amazing.. been here many times over the years and today (Dec 20th) is the best yet. They have a great atmosphere and lighting !! The Thai-version bento-box lunches are Phenomenal, the detail and quality in generous portions makes this the best lunch I’ve seen in 5 years in San Diego. I came on Friday which is spicy basil bento box lunch that also came with veggie curry in the bento box and Pad Thai also.. what an amazing lunch for $13.99 the water here is fresh and clean and cold too ! They take water purity serious.
The food very salty. Been wait forever even we make reservations.
I wanted to dine in this place for a while after enjoying food delivery. Parking could be little challenging but we found a spot. As soon as we walked in, the place inside was very nice. I had a Monday lunch special was so good. Vegetable curry, pad thai, pork...enjoyed all of them. Highly recommended
Thai tea was amazing. I loved the pad thai and the yellow curry was great too.
We had a wonderful dinner here! The food was incredible, the ambiance is cute and unique, and the prices were a steal! The roti appetizer is a MUST- never had anything that tasted quite like the dipping sauce.
Fast pick up/take out order, delicious crab fried rice, which i order for my wife whenever she goes work at nights
Koon amazing
So good!!! Curry chicken and cashew chicken amazing!!!
Great food! Tue only downside was that the portion doesn't look like the one on the picture! Very small portion like for a kid but was charged for an adult.

Great food.
Ordered Pad Thai and Pad See Ew. Both had minimal vegetables, were VERY oily and pretty tasteless. The chicken in one was good, the tofu in the other tasted like rancid oil. Yuk.
Their Tom kha is to die for. You can never go wrong. I had so many Thai food in sd but their soup is the best. Hands down.

I always love ordering here for my family it was amazing . I always try something different and it’s good every time
One of my favorites thai food in san diego
My favorite: panang curry, beef jerky and pad thai
Love this place!

Absolutely delicious! We tried the tom yum noddles and pad woon sen and both were awesome.
Great food. But the gift cards they sell are not actually gift cards. They're "coupons" / "vouchers" that need to be verified. Why don't you guys already have it registered in your system??? Why isn't it activated when we purchase it??? Gave a "gift card" to a family friend and they called us saying the waitress was asking for verification, for both the "voucher" and "gift card" we purchased. Essentially a piece of paper saying "IOU". Purchase the food from this place, not the gift cards. Unnecessarily complicated and annoying. You might as well buy a Visa gift card.
This happened twice. Gave a gift card to a family friend, and a few weeks ago my mother bought a gift card and they had no idea what amount was on the card. Be better.
Quick and polite food consistently delicious. A blessing.
Has good vegetarian options
I’ve been coming here for 8-years and they always deliver. Thank you Koon Thai, you’re amazing.
Bibi! Was such a wonderful waitress 😍 My family and I have been here a few times already. Food is delicious 😋 no complaints, worth the wait when it's busy 😉
Bibi made our experience even more amazing on such a special day on Christmas!!! 🎄🤍
🙏 Thank you for her hard work and working on Christmas day! Highly recommend get Bibi as your waitress! she'll make the full experience at this lovely restaurant even better!
Thank you! & You can't go wrong with whatever you order here you'll enjoy!
This place is consistently good. I have eaten here 5 times. Highly recommend. Both dine and take out.
the food is good and Sandy is super nice! Will come again next time!

I was afraid the food wouldn't be spicy enough because I like things very spicy and the waiter noted my 8/10 request as medium level. It was an exact 8 like I wanted. I go here for the thick bamboo shoots and the whole thing was delicious. I highly recommend!
I got takeaway for a group of 8. Koon Thai is always a hit. Their food is delicious, hot, fresh! I ordered online and it was done within 20 mins which gave me time to drive there.

So glad we stopped in this spot! Food and service are very acceptable. Jeep was very helpful stuff. She so kind and friendly.
My mom loves this place... Duck was awesome... Steamed Fish is one of the best... If you love spicy, this is your spot...
This is the best place in my humble opinion that deserves the table "I WILL BE BACK AGAIN SOON", cos I just cannot stop mentioning it to my peers. I'm an African who loves Thai food and Koon Thai Kitchen none place to have that Thai food, service, experience, and culture. For few bucks you're greeted to some best thai dishes you'll ever taste in life (the passport bros do understand what I'm saying). Pls call for Jimmy when u do decide to visit for an amazing service that you'll never forget.
The food was amazing. To start, the cream cheese wontons had the most cream cheese filling I've had compared to other restaurants. The noodle dish I had was amazing. Jimmy our server was very attentive to our party of 9. I would definitely go back here.
Thai iced tea was a bit diluted and not strong enough. The crispy fish fillet was very good. The combination Pork crispy and barbecue was just okay. A little bit lean and not soft enough. The red Curry level 7 chicken breast was pretty good but I might do level 6 next time because I'm not too crazy. The duck was just okay. I would love to try the crab fried rice next time they look gigantic and good.
Crab fried rice was a little bland but it's ok after the chilly sauce or salt. I had the crab seperated. Love it!
Pad Thai need more wet and seasoning. Need spicy level 7 next time :) I also wished there were more peanut and fried tofu.
Lots of flavor, spice level # 5 Perfect!
Khao Soi Gai Todd was delicious. But parking wasn't readily available at the time. please ask the city to bring back street parking.
Great food and customer service !
Honestly, we tried KTK because our normal Thai fav was closed Monday’s. But sometimes you find the best restaurants because your original plans didn’t go quite right. We saw that KTK had a very good Yelp rating, had been rated by over 2K reviewers, and had recent reviews with quite a number of positive feedback. We called prior to making our online Yelp reservation since we had a party of 7 and didn’t know how many large tables they had. We were told they had several and that Monday’s weren’t too busy, and told we should have no problem dining there that night. We arrived and were seated at a nice table towards the back. We were given an appetizer BOGO (Buy One Get One Free) offer which we weren’t expecting. We ordered seafood Tom Ka soup, soft shell crab, tofu pad thai, edamame, spicy fried rice, chicken wings, fried dumplings, spring rolls, & pa-nang curry. All dishes were delicious, served fresh, hot, and all spice levels ordered with particular dishes were made as ordered. We didn’t have any complaints. Service was good, prices were reasonable, dining area was clean, and our online reservation was simple to book. We’re happy we got to try KTK, and wouldn’t hesitate returning back to try other popular dishes of theirs.
Food was great for the total of our bill. Service could’ve been a little better. It took a while for us to get our order placed. Didn’t look too busy for a Wednesday night. Did notice a party get their order taken when they came after us. I got the Pad See Ew with chicken. I wish I had added some spice to it. Overall not a terrible place and hopefully the next time the service will be better.
We hv been here several times. The food is excellent— one of the best Thai food we ever had. Believe me- you’ll love it too!!!
I tried D3 on the menu which was a chef special. It was very tasty
ordered the fish fillet with brown rice may just be my personal taste as I don’t like garlic, it was absolutely loaded full of garlic. I couldn’t eat more than one bite.waste of $22 plus tip
I highly recommend this Restaurant, very good service, and food was delicious!
This is our favorite Thai restaurantGreat food!! Excellent service! Sandy is a great host very friendly and helpful!! Thank you, Sandy!!
The reason I’m not giving it a 5 is the music, it definitely needs to change! It doesn’t fit everyone’s taste. Please for love of god, each time I come is for the food, the reason I don’t come back is the music.
Worst food
The food was excellent! We love spicy food and medium had the perfect kick! Service was fast and cheerful!
The Pad Thai and Tom Yum Soup were not bad, but the papaya salad was disastrous… Thai tea were tooooo sweet. Although the waitress was kindly enough to add some milk, it’s still VERY sweet.
It was delish!
food was mediocre, on the salty side.
I was charged 20% including on 2 take out orders for 7 people sitting in. When I questioned about tip on the takeout, they did credit me. However, service did not deserve 20%.
They sat us 1 minute before they were even open, had 2 servers taking care of us, food came out FAST the menu is incredible we loved the duck, Tom kah, and mango sticky rice!
The best -one bite, and i was right back in Thailand.
Friendly service plus great food= win
I have eaten here several times and have never had a bad meal. Whole fish, pad Thai with crab. Everything was deliciously prepared. Will definitely be returning for more!
Great food, big portions
Great thai food with lots of options. Everything has been great. Our favorites so far are the crispy pork tom yum, crab fried rice and the yum pla todd (crispy fried fish)
This place is quaint and the food is delicious. The spring rolls were the best I have eaten in a while.
The service was about the best we have ever had in a restaurant. The food was perfect… from the awesome chicken wings to the spicy Thai rice. Cannot imagine a better Thai restaurant!!
AMAZING!! Sandy was our waitress and she was fabulous. The food came out so quickly, everything was amazing! We got pad Thai, crème brûlée, mango sticky rice, pot stickers and spring rolls and everything that fantastic. We would love to come back before we leave town!
Another delicious meal. Gift and Joel were my servers and so helpful and knowledgeable about all the dishes. Today I tried The appetizer fried pot stickers. Also an order of Crispy roti bread.
And for the entree I had Khao Soi Gai Todd. Which is Egg noodles In a northern style curry broth with the flavors of pickled cabbage and shallots. It's elevated with a spicy chili oil drizzle and topped with crispy Egg Noodles all resting perfectly.
On fried chicken tenders. It was out of this world.
We love Thai food and read great reviews about Koon's before going there for dinner last Friday (9/16/2024) to check for ourselves. We arrived at 4:30pm when they re-opened for dinner. Everything was awesome! We were promptly welcomed and seated (probably because we got there when they opened). The restaurant decor was beautiful and clean. Customer service was great! They were friendly and attentive. Pricing was comparable to other Thai restaurants on Convoy. Food portions were good sizes and the taste was very delicious - especially the Tom Kha soup. We plan to go again to try other dishes. Koon's is now top of our favorite Thai restaurants. We highly recommend Koon's!
Food was super fast and delicious
Shout out to Fonny and the Saturday staff that day. Amazing service and recommendations on how to best use the provided spices with our meal.
Delicious food and an amazing happy hour. Will definitely be back!
Excellent Thai food.
Food, service, and price were great. We ordered the Tom Yum Noodle Crispy Pork and the Khao Soi Gai Todd. The Khao Soi was slightly on the salty side, but with the extra side of rice we ordered all of it was really good. Also, the half off drinks happy hour is one of the better drink deals around. Would definitely come back to try some new items and for the drink special.
I took my order (red curry with chicken) to go. Meal was delicious and the portion size was great as well. The curry was packaged great so nothing leaked in my bag even though it tipped over in my car.
Oliver was great with our group!! He accommodated us perfectly. Ty!
The food was good. The service ok. They rush you to finish your meal fast.
I arrived around 11:15am for lunch and was seated immediately. The service was quick and my food was out shortly after I ordered it. I had the Krapao chicken dish and it was delicious. It's obviously a popular place as there were many people coming in for lunch. I would definitely recommend if you enjoy Thai food.
Very tasty food. we ordered 4 dishes and all were great. I would say the food is a little bit on the spicy side when we order mild, which is still acceptable even it is more spicy than expected.
Love the drunken noodle level 10 with chicken. I have never had to long of a wait when I have stopped in.
Great food, great atmosphere!
The food was fast and great! Our server Meemee J. checked on us and made sure our water was filled all the time. He even anticipated I needed a box before I asked. Excellent experience!
Koon Thai is my go to whenever I am in the mood for Thai, they don’t mess around with the spice levels and the dishes are full of flavor every time.
Food was good, but TERRIBLE hospitality.
I have been a regular client, but today they mistreated me with a horrible attitude.
Not considering in returning any time soon
This is my go to Thai restaurant! The food is always delicious both dining in and take out. Good size portion for the price! Very friendly staff who do check up on you to see if you need anything, etc.
Has lunch specials Monday thru Saturday. Wonderful food been here 2x. Will be back cause quality of food and service!
One of my favorite thai restaurants. I make a point of stopping by when I'm in town.
Excelente
Food was awesome. Our server Meemee was very attentive and kind.
Slappin curry; delicious food!
The food was good, but I felt it was more Malaysian than Thai flavors. The fish sauce flavor was dominant in some dishes. The service was excellent, and so was the environment.
I’m shocked this place has such good reviews - couldn’t even eat the spring rolls, gave them to our dogs. The Pad See Ew had no veggies in it. Just a handful of noodles and big chunks of mock meat with no flavor. Super disappointing!
My favorite thai place! The khao soi is wonderful
do not pressure your customers to tip if they dont want to tip
Awesome food! Great Service! Our waiter, Meemee J was great to talk to, his recommendations were on point and he was very attentive.
Best thai food in San Diego
I was craving the fried whole fish and came to this Thai restaurant for it. And boy they did not disappoint. The flavors are all on point and truly authentic. Heard that this fish is also their best seller and I understand why. Will definitely come back to try their other dishes!
Koon Thai Kitchen stands out with its exceptional offerings. The Extraordinary Cashew Nut Chicken is a highlight, boasting a perfect balance of flavors and textures. The Pad Thai is expertly crafted, offering a delicious and authentic taste. Their curries are rich and flavorful, each dish delivering a satisfying experience.
Koon Thai Kitchen also offers the best peanut sauce in San Diego, adding an extra layer of delight to their dishes.
Additionally, Koon Thai Kitchen offers great lunch specials, providing excellent value for the quality of food. The friendly and attentive staff, especially Bomi, further enhance the dining experience, making each visit enjoyable and memorable.
Amazing food reasonable prices and get that SWEET STICKY RICE with mango is 💣 😉
I come here often and order even more through DoorDash. Their food is always great, service excellent and the restaurant is very nice. Really sad they recently got rid of the garlic edamame though.
Great prices
Everything was great. Huge portions for great price. Delicious food and awesome service.
Husband and I went for dinner for the first time on Thursday.we were seated very promptly and our server couldn’t have been nicer. I wish I had gotten his name. I love Thai food and this was the best panang curry I have ever had. Happy hour went until 6:30 so my wine and his beer were half off. We had 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, 2 beers and one wine and our bill came to $56.00. We will definitely be back. I only wish they had Yum Nuah (Thai beef salad) on the menu. It’s one of our favorites but we will definitely find other things to try!
One of the best Asian/thai restaurants in San Diego! All of the dishes are spot on 10/10 (especially the pad Thai) and they have a great variety on the menu. Become one of our local faves, we always take visiting guests here!
Fantastic, fast, and helpful service,
Had lunch here recently and would never go back again. The food was not made fresh to order as it arrived at the table in just 2 minutes after we ordered. The chicken tasted off, the curry seemed watered down and vegetables were under cooked. I also got a Thai tea and it was served in a tiny mason jar filled to the brim with ice, so contained very little Thai tea. Service was mediocre, the server couldn't even explain the different levels of spiciness and on top of everything the place looked very dingy to me. I had to-go from there before and thought it was good but that was a couple years ago. Not sure what happened.
Real Thai food, great service
05-04-24
Ambiance:
Plenty of seating, bright and appealing. Dining room has inviting mural of carousel and Ferris wheel.
* Tom Ka Soup $13.95- creamy delicious but a little sour for my taste.
* Pad Kee Mao $13.95- tasty and loved the smokey aroma of the flat noodles.
Service:
Our server was polite and pleasant.
My friend and I enjoyed our dining experience here. We look forward to returning for more yummy food and awesome service!
5 stars ALL DAY! The pad thai with tofu and a beer is perfect.
Koon Thai has become our take out dinner for the past 3 years whenever we feel like eating Thai Food. It just so delicious and flavorful. They have a different levels of spicy. The pad sew noodles are the best with chicken or tofu. 😋
Delicious food and good customer service thank you!!
Food was amazing. Our server was awesome. Only negative was my soft shell crab app. Came out super fast after I ordered it. Was cold and seemed like it had been sitting for a while. Was a little burnt too. Besides that the red curry and spicy noodles were amazing. Definitely will be going back.
It was really nice. Went with some friends, good memories.
The food is amazing every time.
This was my first thing me dining here and I was not disappointed. The food was delicious and the staff were super friendly. I ordered the Khao Kha Moo. The meat was tender and the chili sauce was killer.
One of my top places for Thai food.
Every single dish is so well made. Everything trastes so fresh!
When we are feeling under the weather their soups are a go to! You will immediately feel better!
This is the BEST Thai Restaurant I have ever tried in the U.S. so far. The flavor is just so savory and filled with umami that perfectly fits my taste. Whenever I have the chance to visit San Diego, I always try to eat at this restaurant as we can't find this flavor in the OC area. It costs us around $20ish for 1 person not too expensive and we couldn't finish everything.
The service here is good, but not as good as other Thai restaurants that I have been to. It was a bit loud when I was there recently as all the tables were filled.
1) When you come here make sure you order "Yum Pla Todd", the fried fish with the spicy lime sauce. It's the main reason why I drive 100+ miles from OC to San Diego.
2)Their papaya salad is also super super good so make sure you order them too
3)Their Thai Tom Yum hot pot is extremely good as well. My mom loves it so much so we always order it every time we eat here
4) Their Pad Thai is better than their Pad See Ew in my opinion, so I would recommend Pad Thai instead. It's also really good
5)Their pineapple fried rice is okay, it's my least favorite among the 5 dishes we ordered. My family likes it but I am not really into it. It's not bad, just does not fit my taste since I am quite picky LOL
If you have the chance to visit San Diego, make sure to at least try this restaurant once!!! You won't regret it. And if you want a good experience, maybe try to order the one that I did since I have returned to this restaurant like 4 times (And will continue to do so) and always order the same set of dishes and always enjoy them.
Sooooo as I said before I review as a customer AND DELIVERY DRIVER. After seeing this restaurant on IG I decided to check it out. The crab fried rice I ordered was good ( not amazing but ok) the papaya salad I ordered was very good but then I was sick the next morning. Not saying the food was the issue….. buuuuuuuut what a coincidence. The woman who took my order was pleasant.
PLOT TWIST :
I came back a few days later as a delivery driver picking up an order. First I’m waiting for anyone to come up to the front counter . Finally a lady comes and takes a call as I’m standing there. Then she looks at me. I smile and say “
I’m here for a pick up for …..”. She turns around and grabs a bag and drops it on the counter . Not even a single word of acknowledgment! Then i say “ excuse me ma’am the customer is requesting chopsticks”. And at that exact time some customers were walking in. She totally ignores me and says to the group “hello l, how many”? She was extremely nice to them.
In the mean time I’m still waiting. She comes back around the corner and looks at me like I’m whyyyyyy are you still here!!! I ask for the chopsticks again . She grabs some slams them on the counter and says “ here here” while waving me out with her hand. Now will I be back as a customer …. Probably not! Will I be back as a DELIVERY DRIVER? Absolutely!!! Will I post another driver review? Absolutely!
And then have the absolutely nerve to give a thumbs down ( for nothing at all) for the pick up smh.
Moral of the story it cost NOTHING to be kind. BUT it can cost you your business by being rude to people ….customer or drivers ma’am ! We are here to support the success of your business. Please don’t treat people less than. I unfortunately have a bad feeling that race was an issue in this whole situation. We are in 2024 people !!! Just be kind to everyone! You never know who you are burning rude to. Before your business receives the ultimate “thumbs down”
Thank you in advance for your consideration and cooperation in this matter.
for me the foods are kinda salty.
No specific lunch on Saturday
Great food, great dining experience, love the ambiance.
My family loves this Thai restaurant. The staff is very friendly & the food is the best 😁😋....
First time here and it won’t be the last!!
This place is delicious!! My food was perfectly cooked, the vegetables were crispy yet tender. An incredibly thoughtfully prepared meal.
Fresh food and good variety.
We were recommended this restaurant from some friends while traveling, thankfully we were warned about the spice level so we could order accordingly. The Pad Thai and Thai Basil with chicken were both awesome! Wish we lived closer, this would easily be a new regular spot for us! Absolutely loved it
The food is amazing, the portions are large, and the prices are also great. We had an issue where a dish that we ordered as mild turned out to be very spicy and the server gladly exchanged that dish for another one! Great service 👍
The curry is too good. It's unreal
Highly recommend trying the Tom Yum Noodles and Khao Soi! Both were absolutely delicious!
Ordered a red curry and a pad woon sen, not the best Thai food I have had but its decent. The quantity of food was really good. I didn't like that they put peas in red curry. The service was quick though and restaurant had a good vibe. There is plenty of parking available nearby as well.
Food here is same as Thailand. Very authentic Thai only “delicious “nothing else to say. Please try folks :)
Best food for affordable price and customer service is absolutely phenomenal
