An authentic Homestyle Thai cooking, We feature a solid selection of Thai favorites, and a few dishes we love and couldnβt find elsewhere!!
Finally found a taste of home in San Francisco! This place serves up the absolute best Thai Southern cuisine I've had in the bay area. Their Krua kling and Kang tai pla are must-tries. Every bite is an authentic flavor that transports you straight to the streets of Thailand. If you're craving genuine Thai Southern food, look no further! Highly recommend π
Amazing Southern Thai food. Donβt get the normal Northern Thai stuff you see at every other Thai restaurant, thatβs not the point of Karakade. We went for the specialty Southern dishes and had one of the best meals weβve ever had in the Bay Area. These dishes are not for the weak of heart, they go all in on the fishiness and the spices. But man are they flavorful! I highly recommend the Kana Moo Krob, the Khao Soi, and the southern set meals.
Ordered a take out from Karakade Thai Cuisine. You can get your average Thai food from here.
Both pad thai and yellow curry had more chicken than I had expected :). Also, the yellow curry didnβt have potatoes or bamboo shoots - which are totally fine with me. The fried chicken was also good when tried with the sauce. However, the sweet rice that came with the fried chicken was very dry.
Ordered the tofu pad thai and papaya salad. Tofu was nice and crispy but the pad thai noodles they used didnβt quite hold up and especially wasnβt a very complex flavor profile. No combination of sweet and sour with umami like the top tier thai restaurants. Papaya salad was good as well but could have used some more complex flavoring with more fish sauce and spice to enhance the layers of flavor.
I went there twice and got the
- pad ga prow
- pad thai + thai iced coffee
The pad ga prow's ground chicken was cooked pretty well and the heat was a good level.
The pad thai was quite flavorful, and the thai iced coffee was sweet but not too sweet.
The only thing I would say is the quantity is a bit small for the price they charge.
I would say this place is a 3.5 but Iβm rounding up. The tom yum soup was good. The service was good and quick. The parking was limited and the neighborhood seemed a bit off the beaten path. I can say I have found any go to Thai food other than Ratcha but thatβs in Berkeley. Iβd consider coming back here but might not go out of my way for it.
Great, flavorful and quality Thai food with excellent service! Praram and pumpkin curry were delicious and the wait staff was very attentive and happy to honor special requests.
A restaurant that I do not recommend trying. The workers are slow at work. I waited for Jawad and my order of food was not ready. I do not recommend trying it. It is very bad.

Great Thai spot in the area, cute place with Very good good food and friendly service!

This is one of our favorite Thai Restaurant in Bay area, very tasty and authentic foods. Staffs are very friendly.

Just ate here for the first time and loved it!
I got takeout, the yellow curry with chicken with a side of sticky rice and the mango lemonade. Everything was amazing! The yellow curry is listed as mildly spicy on the menu and was rich and flavorful, but not too hot. The chicken was tender and delicious. The mango lemonade was also delicious and super refreshing! The portions were generous enough for me to have some left over for lunch tomorrow.
The service was attentive, but not overbearing. Any questions I had were answered thoughtfully. The food was ready in maybe 10 minutes, and I was offered water while I waited and the drink I ordered as soon as it was ready.
Karakade will definitely go on my regular rotation!
Amazing authentic Thai! Love love love will definitely comeback
Iβm not sure why some people have posted poor reviews, but this place is great. Itβs a small seemingly family owned and operated restaurant. The woman taking orders is very busy but still kind and thoughtful. I have celiac disease and a severe fish allergy, so eating out is always a challenge. The food was so delicious, spicy and flavorful. I didnβt have any reaction and will be returning often.
Great little Thai restaurant. Red Curry and Spicy Basil were excellent. Quick and friendly service. Looking forward to trying more of the menu soon!
Great fried fish
Food is good. Very sweet service. The only problem is that you can smell the kitchen all the time.
Phenomenal food, great service
I received zero service (they used to have a waiter who was awesome) and then when I walked up to pay the owner demanded a tip Ha! What happened to your waiter who provided service? Weirdβ¦. wonβt be returning.
Ordered delivery many times, fast and delicious.
Great food!!
Loyal customer , who visit them for a seafood Tom yam
staff are so lazy and there is no such thing as lethargic service
Very small place, heavily understaffed and no attention for customers. Had to wait 15min at door before being even asked to be seated.
Food- pineapple fried rice had just chunks of pineapple hardly any tofu n very less rice. All the dishes were skimpy with tofu , not expected when you order basil tofu to get 4 pieces
Greatly lacking the taste of thai food
Plates are overpriced for the portion sizes. Entres are not served with rice.
I had the pad thai and panang curry which were made perfectly. All the ingredients were so fresh. I also had the yuzu lemonade refresher which was made from scratch and so tasty.
This is our go-to for Thai delivery in the Peninsula. Tasty, reliable dishes. Generous portions. We like the pumpkin curry, green curry, and spicy eggplant.
The food was pretty good and itβs not too far from where I live. The staff seemed nice, too. The yellow curry was my favorite, and Iβd order it again when I come back.
The staff were incredibly friendly and patient. The food tasted great. It wasnβt too expensive, either. Overall a great place. Would come back again.
The only Thai place I've been to in the Bay Area that actually makes spicy food spicy.
I highly recommend the Pad Kee Mao and the Panang Curry for vegans. For non-vegans, I've heard that seafood is their specialty.
Great Thai food. Try their Cat fish or Prawn in tamarind sauce. Many vegetarian options.
Best Southern Thai food I ever had
Great authentic Thai food!
WOW!! some of the best thai food i ever had . green curry samosas fried chicken pineapple fried rice. it was ALL so delicious! and the staff was super friendly and kind. will most definitely be coming back. been missing some good thai and this place hit the spot ππΎ
Food was meh. Southern Thai fried chicken was tough and stringy. Won't be coming back.
Amazing food
Order from here last weekend and it was meh. Like street food quality but if it was microwaved after being frozen. Will not order from here again.
If your looking for good authentic thai food, look no further. The food is great and the atmosphere is very positive. Give them a try and find out for yourself.
The panang curry is amazing. I also really used to love their shrimp apple salad, but it's gone. The rest of their menu is pretty robust and has something for everyone.
Honestly, skip this place and get Sweet Basil Thai instead. This simply isn't worth your time.
Yellow chicken curry: Just tasted like sugar. Way too sweet. Poorly seasoned, which is a theme. Also excessively oily.
Pad See Ew: Bland. Literally no flavor, it was poorly seasoned. Every bite I was expecting more flavor and got nothing. The noodles, broccoli, veggies, everything was just flavorless.
Crispy Rolls: The best of the lot, in that the sauce was good. Otherwise lacking in flavor/seasoning.
Mango Sticky Rice: The rice was overcooked, making it tough and difficult to chew. The texture was unpleasant and the flavor was overly sweet. The mango was still enjoyable.
Thai Tea: It was fine, though again, on the overly sweet side, even for Thai Tea which is usually very sweet.
Delicious and tasty with friendly staff!
The Pad Thai is sort of our baseline for Thai Food and it lacked the tanginess of the Tamarind (not sure if they even added it?) and the depth of flavor that we've experienced at better spots. The Kua Gling Bowl was bland and dry. With very out of proportion meat to rice and veggies (lots of rice). The menu looked great and we were so excited to come back and try more, but the two dishes we ordered did not leave us desiring to come back for more. Server was very friendly!
Iβve had my fair share of Thai food in the USβPortland, seattle, New York, Philly, Baltimoreβ¦this place has the best Thai food Iβve ever had. I love it so much.
For my money, best Thai this side of town!
Loved everything we tried! Especially the very refreshing yuzu lemonade and the mango sticky rice! Also had the roti curry appetizer which was yum and the pad see ew. Very fast also.
Overpriced. There are interesting items on the menu, which I thought would make it worthwhile, but I couldn't figure out if the duck is baked or fried as the staff's English was limited. The pumpkin curry itself was good, chicken was mediocre. They were upfront about rice being extra. Still, I ran out even being conservative, so I had to take a third of my meal home to finish. That's fine, I wasn't enjoying the atmosphere. They tried hard to be upscale by decorating the walls, playing bosanova, bringing the cheque in a small red pail that's in oversupply at Goodwill. God, I guess now I'll to have to find something else to put my pencils in at work. Anyway, the plastic flowers and barely scratched tabletops exposing the fakeness of the dark wood weren't cutting it. They made a quick buck off me, so I guess you can say the experience was authentic. If I come back it'll be just once, to donate a red pail I don't want to see again, and I might try a soup, no rice.
Pretty good Thai restaurant. The prawns are fabulous, and the cucumber salad scrumptious!
Got the southern fried chicken, panang curry, shrimp roll, and fried tofu. All of it was SUPER delicious. And the panang curry is out of this world amazing.
WOW that was incredibly delicious. The Kua Gling and the sausage were particularly unique and tasty. Fresh ingredients and bright flavors, and the egg was cooked perfectly. Thank you, we will definitely be back.
Good Thai food for the US
delicious, big portions
It's a good Thai place
I would say this place is a 3.5 but Iβm rounding up. The tom yum soup was good. The service was good and quick. The parking was limited and the neighborhood seemed a bit off the beaten path. Well i did not go yesterday but i do like the food. Very good quality and very tasty. Nice out of the way place. Wish i could go more often.
Gave me food poisoning
Really flavorful dishes! I had the BBQ chicken which came with a side of sweet BBQ sauce and white sticky rice and my gf had the pineapple curry with a side of white rice.
The chicken was grilled and served with crispy onions which gave it an extra crunch and the sweet sauce provided additional flavor. Loved the combo.
It's good and healthy
Ordered the tofu pad thai and papaya salad. Tofu was nice and crispy but the pad thai noodles they used didnβt quite hold up and especially wasnβt a very complex flavor profile. No combination of sweet and sour with umami like the top tier thai restaurants. Papaya salad was good as well but could have used some more complex flavoring with more fish sauce and spice to enhance the layers of flavor.
The food was really good and we even tried something new...the southern fried chicken was amazing. We highly recommend it. Enjoy!
2020 has been hard for many, and restaurants have had to adapt a lot to stay in business. Katakana Thai closed the doors to put up a table out front and satanized all there pins to the point most donβt even work anymore. Do you not carry you own pin yet!
My GF and I live a 10 minute walk away and found out about this gem shortly after lockdown. Itβs become a weekly go to for takeout now for about a year! What happened to two weeks! So far everything Iβve tried is amazing. But my go too favorites are pineapple fried rice, and yellow curry, and my GF loves the flavorful pad see ew. They have great Thai tea, but if youβre thrifty and have an addition buy a bunch of Thai tea leaves on Amazon and make your own, just add Heavy cream.
Beside the friendly respectful staff and amazing Thai food, Iβm happy to say this is our new go to take out when we both are cooked form zoom meeting and just want tasty clean conform food. Beside some rude DoorDash drivers during pickup we have alway felt they take Greta care during this catastrophe of a pandemic. Iβm happy to this is the best Thai in Redwood City. I look forward to one day eating inside; but honestly takes perfect during this crazy year. Thanks for Making great food and keeping your customers and staff safe.
One of my favorite thai places. Everything has been above the rest, great job guys!
Ordered through Door Dash after being unable to get to our regular Thai place in Menlo Park. The food was delivered quickly, fresh and hot! All our dishes were excellent, from the Pad Thai shrimp, to the pineapple rice , spicy beef, fish, and roti with coconut icecream was a perfect dinner topper (and the icecream wasnβt even melted!). I think this is a new favorite place. The pricing was very fair considering the quality and quantity of food served. Well worth the money.
We were customers when Kate owned Karakade and were hoping the quality would not suffer under new ownership. We neednβt have worried. We got delivery and the food was excellent. Pineapple Red Curry with Duck was delicious. Also loved the Coconut Ice Cream with Roti. Ice cream is sooo creamy! Will try other items in the future. Definitely will be regulars.
Good food
Made my selections fresh to ensure the sauces were vegan. I highly recommend this takeout. Worth finding this little spot.
Ordered through DoorDash. I love the Pad Kee Mao with Beef (Spicy Level 4) but slightly disappointed with the Chicken Mussamun Curry was a little too coconuty for my taste.
Had been here before and maybe was a 3.5. Was convenient, on our way and my wife & I
both wanted Thai food. Didn't realize it is under new ownership. Was an AWESOME Surprise. From our greeting to the food and plate presentations, I have not had better Thai food, anywhere. We had Roti and deep fried vegetable rolls for appetizers. Then Tom Yum fried rice with shrimp, Pineapple curry with fish, and Panang curry with chicken. Plate presentations were beautiful with fresh orchid (purple) and Rosemary. Arawan, downtown Redwood City was my go to Thai restaurant for years till it's closure. I have now found my new "GoTo" Thai restaurant. Arkom was our waiter. Excellent service! Like to hear what others think. Only under this new owner/chef for the past 4 months.
Quiet place serving authentic Thai food. Service was pretty slow given we were the only party in the restaurant.
Gosh, what happened here? Change of ownership? The ingredients are sub par. The beef was a disaster, a chewing gum would have been better. It was a pick up order and we got screwed over the rice. Instead we got someone else's leftovers! My wife is just now saying her stomachs hurts ...
I have always loved Karakade, the food was amazing but since they changed owners it is definitely not the same. My favorite dish is the Larb Gai and I've been craving it for months, finally got to order it for pick up and that's when I was told they changed owners. I was still willing to try it. When I went to eat the Larb Gai, all I could taste was fish sauce. I don't mind fish sauce in dishes but it tasted like that's all that they used. Super disappointed, now I have to find another Thai food place for my Larb Gai.
Customer service ππ½ negative
Very authentic. The Thai barbecued pork is definitely my favorite.
Friendly waiter, good food, cozy place
Awesome food here. Love the Padkhana.
No customers but so slow, wait it for a long time for my orders ...
Awesome food, pad thai is to die for, the pattay chicken is awesome too, very small and personal place
The food is very authentic, and tastes amazing! Totally recommend Radnha
If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I am a dasher and as soon as I walked into the door, didnβt even get a chance to open my mouth to name the order, when they said βnot ready, sit thereβ rudely and pointed aggressively at the chairs. Once they gave me the food, they didnβt give me a bag for the food, just the separate boxes of food. They wanted to charge me for a bag??? I DO NOT recommend this place for either eating in OR take out.
Good green curry rice plate and thai iced tea. Service is prompt and adequate. *Need 15+ to use credit card.
Restaurant is clean. Service is good. Food taste good.
Delicious food for a great price
Best thai in Silicon Valley. A hidden gem.
Diverse menu, flavorful food, excellent service
We sat down and the host tossed dirty menus down at the table and walked away. I had a question about the menu, why there are asterisks on certain things but no explanation of what the asterisks mean, and he grumbled something completely unintelligible at me and walked away again.
We got up and left. There's nothing call for the rudeness of the service here.
Rude service ,maybe because I was asian had duck curry duck seems pretty old like few days old got double charge for only two items duck curry and steam rice $26.80 pretty expensive
I love this place. It's close to my office and go there soonest once a week. The soup is very good there. They can make the food spicy too.
Good food, good prices.
Yellow Curry with chicken was really good!!! Fair prices!
Very tasty
Excellent Food and the owner brought 3 shots of sake and took a shot with us!
Loved the pad thai
They closed half an hour before end time and wiped the floor around me already.
Food is good. Customer service sucks and the guy there doesnt speak English
This is a Great little Thai restaurant! It has fun decor with an off-kilter attitude. The vegetarian pad Thai is particularly delicious.
Good spicy food. Soup is good too. Good for your occasional lunches when you forget to bring your dabba from home :)
Come for the food and get a tattoo next door.MT tattoo studio
They are so slow it would've been faster to drive down order from Thaibodia, eaten, paid, then come back and maybe your food will be ready. When service is this poor I have to wonder if they only care about collecting money...
Karakade fried rice is excellent. The dish is presented with shredded carrots, cabbage, and ground peanuts on the side of the plate. Pad Thai and pad see-ew noddle dishes are great. All the hot meals come out piping hot on decorative plate.
Holy hell, pad Thai was so sweet it tasted like eating dessert. Maybe it's just the American taste buds that require a mountain of sugar in main courses, better remember for next time to ask the dish "without the sugar".
Really enjoyed the spicy pork with eggplant. It was delicious! Worth the 1.3 mile walk from my house. Will do it again. The pickled peppers that are at the table just add another dimension of savory heat to the dish. The pineapple fried rice was ok but white jasmine rice was better with it.
quiet, tasty, albeit not fantastic.
Great.
Lovely owner :)
Nice food decently priced. One issue though: we asked for non-spicy but the param tofu was still medium spicy.
Cute comfy setting ginger fish and duck curry delicious
ok but not that authentic. prefer thai time in San Carlos.
My favorite Thai restaurant on the peninsula.
Best Thai in the RWC!
Tom Kah gai soup is amazing. Curries are yummy. Don't let the lack of people inside fool you, this place does a ton of to-go but we like sitting at the restaurant, it has a nice vibe and the staff is friendly.
I've been reading about the new ownership (and new name: Karakade), and thought I'd try it out: what a pleasant surprise.
I ordered the Chicken Sa-Tay, Pad Si - Ew Ta - Lay, and Beef Mus - A - Mun. They were all great. The seafood had a little more squid than I would have preferred, but it was actually cooked properly and tasted good. The chicken Sa-Tay was good, with great peanut sauce. The Beef Mus - A - Mun curry was delicious. At some other restaurants, they seem to use poor quality meat with gristle etc in dishes like this, but this beef was not like that at all: it was very good.
The owner seems really nice... he had the food ready for me when I arrived and even waited to pour my Thai Iced Tea so the ice wouldn't melt before I arrived.
