Serves a variety of Thai noodle, curry, rice & seafood dishes, with lunch & dinner deals.
Having been to Thailand not long ago, this review might be biased 🙈
The food (Pad See U & Spicy Pork Noodle Soup) was okay and the drinks (Thai Tea Boba & Thai Coffee Boba) were okay - though, I appreciate the coffee wasn’t super sweet… thank goodness 😅
The service at the beginning could have been a little better - when we entered, though a person or two of the staff looked our, we weren’t greeted till a few minutes later and were just told to “sit over there” w/ a head motion 😶 at least they were not rude with the tone.
Service after that was okay - not bad and not anything great.
The interior was decorated for Xmas and was pleasantly cozy, warm, homey, and welcoming.
Amazing authentic food, very delicious!! Ordered through GrubHub as I was craving Thai food. Your restaurant is at the top of my list of Thai restaurants in the valley. If I can make a small suggestion for the Pad See U, please don’t over fry the tofu, it had a chewy texture. Overall, everything had flavor and it was enjoyed! I indeed want to come in person to eat there.
How did I not know about this place until now!!! If you've lived in the valley from back in the day this is the old Shakeys building. When you first walk in the place looks small but when you walk towards the back, there's tons of seating for large groups.
Everything was so good. I highly recommend the following:
Chicken larb medium spice which a ground chicken seasoned with lime and onion. So good over steam rice.
The bbq pork was tender and had a great amount of flavor.
Beef jerky - although you need to add some muscle into your bite. It still tender with lots of flavor.
Pad see ew - you can never go wrong with a rice noodle with Chinese broccoli.
Service was prompt and serving size for each dish was generous especially for family style eating.
I recently had the unique opportunity to photograph The Original Khun Dang Thai Restaurant for a project with Doordash. As a commercial photographer specializing in gastronomy, I've witnessed many establishments, but this one truly stands out.
From the moment I stepped in, the staff's warmth and the welcoming atmosphere set a fantastic tone for the session. Although I didn’t get a chance to taste the dishes, I captured their visual appeal and the passion the team pours into each presentation. Each dish reflected a balance between art and tradition, a testament to their dedication to authentic Thai cuisine.
As Daniel The Photographer based in Los Angeles, I pride myself on collaborating with local businesses and highlighting their uniqueness through my lens. This project was more than just an assignment; it was an experience that allowed me to appreciate the beauty and effort behind each plate.
If you're looking for an authentic culinary experience with exceptional service, The Original Khun Dang Thai Restaurant is definitely a place to consider. And for businesses seeking to capture the essence of their brand through high-quality photographs, you can count on me to bring that artistic and professional vision.
Thank you, The Original Khun Dang Thai Restaurant, for a memorable session!
Probably one of the best + friendliest places around the valley. The prices? Very reasonable. The taste? Impeccable. The vibes? Like the soothing hubbub of a nice family chattering in the background. Been coming here for almost 7 years, I have yet to experience one bad host/server/waiter.
My only issue is that they're almost packed, so either call in ahead or get a to go order.
Made an order for takeout and we got several entrées and an appetizer. We ordered pineapple chicken fried rice, pad sew yew(spelling?), tofu pad Thai, chicken satay and rice. Pictures of the three entrees included and the beautiful plate I made with everything on it. It was all very delicious and had amazing flavors. The location has its own parking lot which is very convenient. All staff I interacted with during the order and pickup were very friendly and nice. I wish I lived closer because I would definitely get food here weekly, it was amazing!
The waitress is friendly and attentive, and the food is delicious.
While visiting the area, our Thai friend took us to this restaurant, and thanks to her selection, we had amazing experience at the restaurant. We ordered a variety of dishes, starting from soup, salad to main entrees, and everything was up to our expectations. I would definitely return to this establishment when we are in the Valley.
Great food, love the beef jerkey
I get the BBQ beef lunch special every time. Good service. Have heard great things about the Pork Nam Tok too!
great food and friendly staff. Definitely coming back again

Best Food And Great Customer Service Ready Friendly
One of the top hidden gems of the valley. Delicious Thai food that never misses. Get the shrimp fried rice, bbq pork, pineapple curry, and the pad see ew.

Good food and good service, very quick serving the food.
This is the place to go if you really want to eat good Thai food. The restaurant very clean, customer service is very helpful with a great upbeat personality.
Dine in service was great and didn’t have to wait much for food. Thank you
Always great food
Everything we ordered was delicious especially Dessert..🥰
I was here to have lunch, and I had Pad Thai with vegetables, papaya salad, fried rice with chicken, and a pink lemonade. The food was incredible, and there was no need to say about the service; it was fantastic. You should try a visit. I'm sure you won't regret trying it.

Came here on Sunday night and the restaurant was a bit busy. We were a party of 3 and seated after waiting for a few minutes for a table to get cleaned. We got the shrimp rolls as an appetizer and it came out quickly. There are a few dinner dishes that remind me a bit of Original Thai BBQ since they come with shrimp fried rice. My mom got their BBQ pork and brother got the fried chicken, both come with shrimp fried rice and salad. I got the pad kaprow with chicken. All of the food was delicious and portions were generous. Service was speedy and we got refills for water without asking.
Smells odd in here
Got takeout- normally the pad thai is very good but something changed and now it's average. Also got the cream cheese/crab, very small amount for the price. Sweet and sour chicken was also completely liquid with maybe 2 pieces of chicken in with loads of veggies. Ripoff!
Definitely gone down in quality. Not sure if it was sold but since the pandemic they are horrible. The Tom yum anything has no flavor. If you want spice it seems to be artificial not from thai chili. I make my own Tom yum goong which I found on hotthaikitchen and it is amazing. From now on I'll just make my own and skip Khun Dang. Dang it.
Fast forward to 2024. I ordered mango sticky rice and got clumped up rice slapped together with a bitter mango. Very dry and not very edible.
Most mediocre Thai food I have had in a while. The staff are lovely though.
Don’t get:
The papaya salad
The spicy mint leaf anything
Do get:
Curry
Maybe the place is good for the area, but if you can, just drive to a better spot.
I miss the old Thai place, the food seems to have suffered a great deal after covid. I will no longer recommend this place. Even 2 stars is to good.
Excelente atención y productos frescos para su elaboracion.
10/10
Great pineapple curry so warm and comforting and delicious.

Thank you, The Original Khun Dang Thai Restaurant, for a memorable session!
The Original Kuhn Dang is the first Thai restaurant I found after moving to LA from Tacoma 8 years ago. Western Washington has a big Thai population and lots of fantastic Thai food. I've traveled in Thailand and sampled the fare in roadside stands, nice sit down restaurants, seafood grilled from the Gulf of Thailand on the beach over a fire, and even from a motorscooter sidecar brazier. The food at Kuhn Dang is the real deal, great portions, tasty as heck, and the lovely Thai hospitality is on display. I'm not going to review every dish I've had there but let it be known, every one I have had has been amazing.
Comida muy sabrosa y todo muy limpio
This restaurant is great 👍
Customer service was horrendous, lady that was serving us threw menus and plates on the table without care. Acted in a very racist manner which is unacceptable. We've been going for many years for celebrations, but I believe this marks the last time we step inside that place. Do better. Don't recommend.
Very nice restaurant and great food. Left with a big helping of soup for tomorrow’s meal. 😋
Food is so delicious 🤤
I have been few times here with my coworkers and love the food , always delivering great food and same taste, personally I love the fried pork lunch special and chicken lunch special, great service, can't wait to go again anyway ime I'm working around
Best Thai Food in town!
Great food
They are not lying when they said, original Thai food. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
So I was doing the order I specifically said extra spicy!!! Not even spicy they didn’t add anything to it and plus I called came back there willing exchange it but didn’t do that when I got in person if you want something spicy go somewhere else trust me!!! Rudeness is way it is now a days!!!
Muy buena la comida y las bebidas
Clean and nice atmosphere, servers were nice and attentive, and service was super fast, made me worried about my food being cooked thoroughly, but to my surprise they were nicely cooked and delicious! Would recommend to those craving Thai food.
The food is spectacular
Good food, good price, family atmosphere. I’m a bit of a regular.
They serve a very small portion of what I ordered for such an expensive food. Wasn’t satisfied of the quality of food. It’s better off going to Krupa Thai.
My first time on this place, exelent food, service and ambient....
Food is Delicious and great variaty...
YOU TRY FIRST TIME AND YOU HAVE TO MAKE PLANS TO COME BACK...👋😀👌
This is one of those little secrets that won't be a secret for long, people friendly, budget friendly, Panorama City has a diamond in pile of rocks...😜
Sunday evening, there was a lot of parking available, the drinks were great and the food is always the best. I get full and always want more. Great restaurant 🤌
Absolutely outstanding! The Original Khun Dang Thai Restaurant in Panorama City, CA never disappoints. From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted with warm hospitality and an inviting atmosphere. And let’s talk about the water! It’s rare to find a place that goes above and beyond with their water, and it was such a refreshing surprise. The Thai Tea was a delight as well, perfectly balanced and full of flavor.
As for the food, we ordered the fried chicken wontons, pad see ew, and chicken larb. Each dish was a culinary masterpiece. The fried chicken wontons were crispy on the outside, with a juicy and flavorful filling that left us craving for more. The pad see ew had just the right amount of wok-char, and the noodles were perfectly cooked, complemented by the savory sauce. And the chicken larb? It was simply sensational. The blend of fresh herbs, spices, and tender chicken created a symphony of tastes that we won’t soon forget.
The quality of the ingredients was evident in every bite. The dishes were not only delicious but also prepared with utmost care and attention to detail. The flavors were vibrant, and the portions were generous. The team at Khun Dang Thai truly knows how to create culinary magic.
To top it all off, the service was exceptional. The staff was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had a memorable dining experience. The Original Khun Dang Thai Restaurant has become our go-to place for authentic Thai cuisine. If you’re looking for a place that offers incredible food, freshness, and a welcoming atmosphere, this is it. Don’t miss out on this gem!
Really good! And authentic
Amazing food but the people who work here do not follow directions well. My roomie has autoimmune disorders and severe GERD and cannot eat spicy food. We order their curry a lot, with a delivery app, almost always one spicy and one mild, and 2/3 of the time they both come spicy af.
Tonight the curries both came spicy (I can handle extremely spicy dishes), and after a grueling 14-hour shift with no food, all my roomie wanted was something tasty to fill her belly and decompress from the work day. Now she's crying and starving, with nothing to eat. I guess my advice to anyone wanting to eat here is don't do it if you have special dietary needs. They're highly likely to botch your order.
There are times where I didn't want the spice, and we ordered two mild curries - and they are VERY inoffensive, and absolutely delicious. For some reason they can't pull off one mild order and one spicy order, the "mild" one is usually just as spicy as the spicy one. This place is not inexpensive, especially for delivery, so this experience was pretty crushing. Diner beware!
Great Thai restaurant in Van Nuys. I've taken many friends here when they visit from out of town and they always enjoy themselves. Fantastic curries and soups and the portions are huge.
Edit: I just discovered the Indian noodle soup. It's amazing! If you're into coconut curry I can't recommend this dish enough.
If this wasn't the best Thai I've had it's definitely the 2nd best. So good.
Simple delicious
Great Thai Spot to grab a beer and some noodles.
Food was ok all dishes we ordered only the pork jerky was good

Great dishes, especially the Hawaiian Shrimp!!!! Lovely decor inside, and the service is absolutely friendly.
Delicious food, good service, big menu!
Great Thai flavor
Great place! Food was fantastic, my gf and I got the Singaporean noodles, tum yum soup, shrimp spring rolls, spicy eggplant, orange shrimp, and brown rice were all so delicious and mango sticky rice!
Delicious food. We ordered the Lunch combo #3, spicy steak salad, seafood curry soup, shrimp egg roll, sticky rice with mango and we definitely enjoyed them all with plenty of left overs to eat tomorrow!
Great food
Today is 1/7/23 8:10pm. We waited for a table for 20 minutes while all the servers saw us and didn't even acknowledge us. My wife asked if they want us to sit ourselves down and the waitress said "no you have to sign the waiting list paper" we looked at the waiting list and there was no one waiting AND we were the only ones. Mind you there were 4 tables open, to make matters worse of out of her agitation and frustration the server told us to not stand in her way and to sit down and wait for table when she could have seated us right away. Shame on these Thai people. 0/10 service. When the male waiters are they this never happens and we are greeted and seated properly. I think the owner has to speak with this waitresses, have a huddle or something!
we love that restaura🤎
My favorite Thai restaurant in the valley been going here since I was a kid. The spice level used to be pretty hot but now i have to order medium at least for what used to be their mild spice just a disclaimer it might be a COVID thing or just having a more diverse customer base now. Their Neuh Nam Tok (beef salad) is an always ordered, the pork jerkeys good, the Som Tum is good (papaya salad). Haven't had anything that misses. The staffs always been pretty friendly to my grandma and my family.
Very friendly staff here at the original Khun Dang! I changed up my normal benchmark of yellow curry, pad Thai, and Thai fried rice.
I went with BBQ beef and fried rice with hot green tea. Flavor, temperature, and prompt service made this dish great for our team lunch. They handled our group of 7 smoothly and even were kind enough to help us take a group picture.
Great spot and I'll be back (Arnold voice required)
Food is excellent. Service is very good.
In from out of town on business craving some good Thai. Khan Dang was close to my hotel. Ordered a green curry meal, and was very pleased. A good quantity of food, at a good price. I ordered it hot, it could have been hotter, but they provided a tray of different chilies you can add to taste. They also have a good selection of beers.
Gave us food that we didn't order and insisted we ordered it when did not.
Kinda pricy .
Very limited parking option on a very busy street .
Best Thai food ! I’ve been going here since 2010 and they do not disappoint
This place is a little oasis. Great atmosphere and yummy food. I highly recommend the pineapple curry. 🍍
Went with my family and everything is shareable. Will be back for sure
Came back for dinner as we usually come for lunch. It doesn’t disappoint; from the papaya salad to the beef jerky, fried catfish in red sauce , seafood with coconut soup, chicken panang curry! Exquisite ethnic Thai! And yes there’s enough space for parking which is a plus in this busy neighborhood !
Beef jerky & crab fried rice items are 5 stars
My new "go to" Thai restaurant. I've only ordered to-go lunch so far.
Best food in town 💯
I’ve never tasted better thai food, this place is the best!!!!
This Thai food spot fire one of my favorites
Super friendly. Good service. Delicious food. Best Thai coffee around!!
The pad Thai was kinda dry and has curry flavors to it. We also got the basil leaves seafood combo which was good. Their menu has so much items and they have beer and wine and a full bar which is nice. I just wasn’t too impressed with the food.
Let me start by saying how wonderful the people are here, so courteous and very pleasant. After looking for a place that delivers and calling around 8 other restaurants. I’m so glad we ended up finding this place which became our favorite. I ordered the crab noodles and added garlic and mushrooms, Omg it was the best dish I’ve ever had! My son had the stuffed chicken (also delicious) my husband had the pineapple rice which you can add other veggies. And my daughter had the chow mein. We ordered 4 orders of the sweet sticky rice another delicious treat! I tried everything and everything was absolutely wonderful! Our food arrived so fast! This is from now on our favorite place to go!!!
Fantastic service, lots of Authentic Thai food options.
The only Thai restaurant I still going after 13 years
Authentic, great tasting, and huge variety. I would estimate 100 choices.
Wow.
I was impressed.
First time eating there.
Food is not that good for the price !! They are not to friendly
First visit was okay.
Second time coming here, I had a noodle soup that had an awful smell and taste not coming back.
Quality ingredients served hot.
Delicious highly recommend
Clean establishment too.
Quick service, good price for lunch special
Bonito muy buena comida
Poor service
My favorite food is soup ,so delicious.
Comida Thai tradicional, buen servicio
First time here and was NOT disappointed, great food, generous portions and good prices! Will definitely return again!
Always great tasting food.
5 star service.
Pink milk was perfect 👌
Esta Para mi gusto bien
Reason for visiting: lunch with friends after a funeral
Date/time of visit: Thursday afternoon, ~1:00 PM
Parking: in the adjacent lot, free
Party size: ~15
Environment/ambience: wasn't that busy at the time. Restroom was relatively clean. No TVs around that I saw. Small bar in the middle. We sat in the back, near the back door.
Service: was good. They came around often enough. They speak broken English but understandable.
Food: had some of the following: Chicken pad Thai, Fried egg with ground pork inside, beer (Singha and Chang), and pork skewers
Cost: not sure, didn't pay 😀
Good food, discriminatory re entrance for dine in.
Best Thai food I've ever had. This restaurant is not that close to my house but worth the drive. The other Thai restaurants in my neighborhood which are a lot closer have lost their taste and authenticity. This restaurant does enforce the current COVID-19 laws and do require eat in guests to show proof of covid vaccination. If you are not vaccinated and would like to eat the best Thai food around just order takeout. I would definitely recommend this place.
The food is very good But service at 5pm is the worst worst
