Thaiphoon restaurant is a family own, founded in 2003. Weβre celebrating our 21th anniversary. We were voted the Best Thai food by the readers of Palo Alto Weekly.
The Green Curry was so flavorful and perfectly spiced. We also had the BBQ chicken, the ribs, and the Pad Thai. They were all delicious! My husband orders the coconut to drink/eat and it was an actual coconut π₯₯. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is inviting. We'll be going back!
One of the best Thai places in the South Bay! The cashew and papaya salad are just out of this world! Tom Kha soup and the drunken noodles are must tries too. Finally the mango with sticky rice seals the deal! The service is timely and the ambiance is good. The portion size could be a bit better. But will definitely return!
Overall really bad food. We ordered Singapore noodles. This is nothing like the dish. Itβs brown and wet/gooey. Should be heavy on yellow curry and not wet.
We also ordered Mongolian beef. The beef was tough and sparse. The dish was mostly wet onions. Will not order again and will not recommend.
We ordered for takeout. Had we dined in, we would have sent the food back and left for a better restaurant. Unfortunately we are stuck with bad food at home.
Got the Friend got pad see ew!
Appetizer of golden eggplant with a sweet chili sauce. Very lightly fried, good texture and density to the eggplant.
Red bamboo curry with chicken and jasmine coconut rice. Great flavors, not too spicy, wish there had been more food in general for the price ($17). Down side was you had to pay $4 extra for the rice and was told itβd have more of a sweet rich flavor/texture but it tasted very ordinary. Friend got pad see ew which she gets every single time! Quick service and delightful flirty atmosphere.
We stopped by for dinner here which happened to coincide with their Happy Hour! I had Red Curry with Rice and an order of the Veggie Egg Rolls. My guest ordered a soup and Chicken Noodles.
I liked the spices of my dish but the rice was too soggy with too much sauce in the serving dish.
Would like to come back and try their specials next time specially since they have food selection of good IPAs at the bar.

Very good green curry! The spring rolls were a bit weird they def put some sort of vegetable that they shouldnβt have but I canβt put my finger on what they put in it

Tried Panang curry with Tofu, pretty good

The dish I had was not tasty at all. It was chicken yellow curry. The chicken did not taste to anything and the curry was like powder mixed with water.

food really good! Duck curry and soup are both very tasty!
Short staffed and average food

Food is not tasty at all, their Mongolian beef is lots of cooked onions in water with a few pieces of not mongolian beef.

Hair in spring roll.
Pad see ew with chicken was delicious! Cute spot in Palo Alto

Overall a really bad experience. Food tastes below average, no service at all in between, had to catch a server to get the bill, the server passed me an iPad with suggested tipping starting from 18% after tax.
Service was nice. The food cost $22 but Iβd rather pay $40 to not eat it.
Youβre better off staying home and eating instant ramen noodles. Waste of money. Mango curry was just water with vegetables.
Had a great time. Food was amazing and great deals. Thai tea was great. Can recommend it to anyone, they have so many options.

Absolutely underrated. This is my favorite restaurant in Palo Alto.
Iβm Palo Alto resident.
Love this place. We started ordering through Doordash during the pandemic, and when places opened up we were happy to come in and eat at the restaurant. Food is always excellent, and the restaurant ambiance is nice.
Always a great experience when we go there! Their curries are really flavorful and their coconut rice is truly amazing! The atmosphere inside is pretty cozy and the service is always fast and attentive. Would recommend without hesitation!
expensive and tastes bad
Disrespectful staff making you wait outside burning in the sun while making your takeout order
I ordered green cury salmon, and they forgot the rice! Then, when I called, they said I had to order a side of rice.
I paid so much money to add extra meat and 99% of the content was ALL noodles. I saw like one or two meat pieces and I paid like $45 for two people meal. What am I supposed to do? Pay $5000 for my noodle to have adequate amount of meat in my meal. Absolutely ridiculous.
A bit pricey, but the food is pretty good. Like the pad see ew. Get chicken.
Based on reviews I didnβt expect much but it is actually pretty good and conveniently located. I guess thatβs why giving it a 5 as I feel itβs definitely a decent place for Thai food. We had drunken noodles and green curry, both were tasty and portions were good.
Loved the red curry.
Food is terrible.
The food was average. Generally I have always liked Thai but this did not feel right. Too salty
They give very little food when you order online compared to other local Thai restaurants. Did nothing when I called to let them know my annoyance.
Wow! Food was beautifully delicious! Great customer service, definitely will be back. Sticky rice, ice cream, with fresh mango is a must.
Pad see ew: beef was tough, tastes fine.
Golden shrimp: basically just battered shrimp with their own sauce. Lettuce was browning.
Mussuman curry: the potatoes were undercooked. A little hard, yet the beef was meltingly tender.
They get the flavors down, but the textures are all off. Some parts are overcooked, others are under. Won't come back.
Our party agreed about one thing that night - the food is absolutely terrible.
Nice atmosphere and kind service earned them the second star.
Ordered takeout and the roti prata was drenched in grease; the egg rolls were dripping in oil and left an awful aftertaste (old oil maybe?); the Pad Thai was all stuck together and clumpy. Only the yellow chicken curry was ok, though not a ton of chicken in there though. Very disappointing. Felt like they might have just given us the leftovers from earlier. Going to go back to Siam Royale around the corner for our takeout.
Nice ambiance on the patio and kind server. But the food was really bad. Pad Thai nothing like a proper pad thai which is my baseline for the Thai restaurants. Aside from a really non traditional take on the flavor and very oily, could barely find the egg in there. Our curry had very rubbery, overcooked chicken and the curry flavor tasted what I could've made from a packet at the grocery store.
The food is not good and the waitress was rude.
The food is always fresh and the service is superb!
Best pad thai in Palo Alto.
Pad Thai, no meat.
Ordered the papaya salad and the pad see ew for delivery using uber eats. The papaya salad was ok, personally not super impressed by the depth of flavor but appreciated a couple of the poached shrimp as a nice addition. Fish sauce wasnβt too overpowering though. Pad see ew was good but nothing exceptional. This one lacked spice and depth but contained typical Thai flavors. Noodle texture was ok but not quite springy and bouncy like the best Thai cuisine.
Food was really tasty and the place has a nice vibe
Pad Thai was good!
Appetizers are good.
Very good and tasty Thai food! Highly recommend any noodle plates π. James was very nice
Better than Siam Royale (on Univ Ave) - much better service and food.
There interpretation of Thai food has too much of an American twist and has become less and less authentic since they opened.
Great food. Good service.
Really good Thai food, loved the curry, we had 2 different dishes, shared brown rice, it was amazing!
Great tasting Thai cuisine!
Good food good prices. Service was great.
Salt vs sugar. If your a salt person you need to ask them to add more. For sugar it's a great just the right amount of sweetness in every bite.
Also they need to give every table more napkins . One is not enough.
Good comfort Thai food. Red Thai curry was good.
DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS PLACE.
Each entry costs almost $20, but the portion is MINIMAL. There are literally two tiny pieces of chicken in my curry. Totally a rip-off. Will never order from them again.
Great fusion of different Asian flavors ( including Indian !). Don't miss the spring rolls with duck. Fabulous.
Used to be my favorite Thai place around Stanford, but the quality really declined in recent years since they started using frozen veg instead of fresh. (Right?!)
Decent prices and good food
tasteless cr*p! bears little resemblance to any Thai dish I have ever enjoyed! eggs rolls were limp, rice was overcooked, beef was tough and chewy, pad thai was unseasoned and simply boring! I suspect that the Thaiphoon hot the kitchen! - you have been warned - this is *not* worth the money or the calories ...
The Tom yum soup was just like I made it randomly at home...
I ordered the Yellow Curry Chicken, spring rolls and a Thai iced tea. The curry was good, although the chicken was underwhelming. The spring rolls & sauce were good. The iced tea was horrible, donβt order it.
I really like their service and the food. Very delicious and fresh. Despite the current situation they were trying really hard to be accommodating and friendly. I recommend a reservation if you have plan for dine-in especially for Friday night.
It was very good but a bit slow. It was robably the lunch rush as well. Nice atmosphere and people watching too.
Worst chicken pad tia I have ever had and peanut sauce was thin and runny looked watered down.. I would not recommend
My "go to" restaurant in Palo Alto. Excellent food, quick service, nice ambiance with indoor and outdoor seating, refreshing cocktails, YUM!!!
Bland food and slow service. I wouldn't go back.
Decent food but a little on the pricey side for what you get.
A definite must try, I will eat here again.
Great flavors and quick service. Our kids couldn't have been happier with their meal and are looking forward to going back soon.
Worst experience ever! Went during lunch on a weekday and it took over an hour for us to get our food. All food orders were incorrect and there were items that we never received. When we asked to see manager about our dissatisfaction the owners wife told us βwhat do you want me to do? We are short staffedβ. Will never visit again.
Best Thai in palo alto
Great food and great music! I ordered the yellow curry last time I ate there and they were playing 90s R&B! Nice staff as well!
Thai food is an excellent location. Vast menu. More like an Americanized Thai cuisine. Well cooked meats and tasty food. We tried Chicken Pad Thai, Thai Basil Beef, Kung Pao Shrimp and Green Curry Chicken. All good food.
Fast lunch, with soup. Consistent and good quality, along with competent and friendly sevice. The Thai Basil Chicken is a favorite.
Very reasonably priced, nice food, great service. Option to have brown rice in the fried rice dishes, which was a plus.
Great food, although somewhat slow on paying and ordering food. Kind of expensive, but the food makes up for it.
Noddles we're good but chicken and pork dishes had very tough meat, flavors good though. Service slow too. Would only order noodles again.
To say this is Thai food... ?
Wonderful pad Thai! Great place for a group luncheon!
Food quality is bad.
Thai basil chicken is excellent, as are the duck spring rolls. Surprisingly good mixed drinks as well.
Bland as hell. Pad Thai is like a plate of dry noodles with a small pile of ground peanuts on the side. If a Thai restaurant cannot make pad Thai...
Very kind and friendly, delicious food. Great place to celebrate a birthday!
Good to sit outside on warmer weathers. Nice spice and flavors.
Authentic thai food with a decent lunch set. Comes with a small bowl of soup. You can order thai spicy levels as well!
Great food.. Loved the shrimp with Penang curry dish. Mango tango cocktail was really good too, would go try that drink again!
Atmosphere was nice for business teams. Food was delicious. Very busy at lunch.
I had the stir fried chicken and eggplant and it was delicious. But even when asking for highest spice level, it wasn't really that spicy.
Delicious Thai food π One of the best in the Bay area!
Yummy food
We ordered 3 dishes and they brought them out about 15 -20 min apart
Great fried rice and pad see ew!! Quiet atmosphere
Place is really meh. We ordered food and drinks, and this is how everything came out: three out of the four meals, then one of the drinks, then the last meal, and then the rest of our drinks. When we asked the server where our drinks were, he said "the drinks are not my responsibility, you need to ask someone else about drinks". Okay...
I had the Pad Thai, and honestly, it feels like I went to Walmart and got a package of Annie Chun's Pad Thai off the aisle...except I'll be able to buy a 12 pack of Annie's with the money I spent on one plate here.
So far, I'm disappointed with service, disappointed with food, and disappointed with the price. The drinks were good though. But, I don't think this restaurant produced our Heinekens.
Eh, mediocre like most of the food in palo alto
Nice Tahi food
We did not have a reservation on a busy Saturday but they still accommodated us food and service was awesome
No service
Padsiew was delicious. It was well fried and had a good smoky taste that a fried noodle dish should possess.
